Chapter Text

“I don’t think I’m ready,” Enid whimpered as she inspected herself in the mirror. Slender hands wrapped around her waist and Wednesday kissed her neck softly trailing up to her ear.

“You’re going to do wonderfully, cara mia,” Turning around in her girlfriend’s arms Enid rested her’s on the raven’s shoulders. She was worrying her lip and clearly overthinking so Wednesday leaned up on her tiptoes to place a gentle kiss on her lover’s lips.

“The whole school is going to be there, and both of our families, and I’m just…what if I mess up or what if I wasn’t the right pick?” Wednesday shook her head.

“You were a perfect choice, you’ve practiced nearly day and night, even cutting into my own cello rehearsing. You’re quite literally a natural-born leader and you’ve worked harder than anyone else for this,” Enid still wasn’t sure and Wednesday moved to cup her face lightly. “You’re going to be perfect and I will be in the front row if ever you need me,”

“Promise?” Enid’s voice was anxious and Wednesday nodded reassuringly.

“You have my word,” Enid held out her pinky and the raven looked at her as if she had to be joking. Enid stared at her completely serious and Wednesday rolled her eyes and linked their pinkies.

Oh, the things she does for that girl.

“You know you have to wear the cap and cords right?” Enid said with a small playful smile and Wednesday sighed.

Enid was in her purple graduation robes, while Wednesday wore black. Both were adorned with gold cords of high academic achievement. Wednesday’s tight braids were in place as she begrudgingly placed her cap on looking in the mirror to place the tassel to the right. Enid’s hair had grown considerably falling nearly halfway down her back, color ever present in Nevermore’s trademark purple streaked through her golden locks. Wednesday reached up and moved the tassel for her and Enid took this chance to lean down and kiss her.

“Let’s go finish this so that way I never have to return here again,” Wednesday drawled making Enid laugh and lace their fingers together.

“What? You’re not going to miss our room?” They both looked around and took in the memories they had made in the last two years of their time together.

Though most of their belongings had already been packed up and shipped to their new home while their beds were still pushed together on Enid’s side of the room. The large window leading to their balcony had been repainted when they moved back in after that fateful summer, instead of half and half there were colorful spirals moving along the grey background of the sky.

A little of Enid’s color bleeding into Wednesday’s life, while the raven’s realism kept the wolf grounded.

They shouldn’t work, but they do.

Enid kissed Wednesday’s cheek and the smaller girl smiled at the contact. Tugging on her hand she silently told Enid it was time to go. Taking a deep breath to gather her courage she nodded and they headed down to the courtyard.

Morticia guided the rest of her family through the chairs in the unfortunately sunny courtyard. They were seated next to a rowdy group of wolves that the Addams matriarch immediately recognized as her brightly colored addition’s family.

“Sinclairs!” She greeted happily and an older couple looked at them with bright smiles.

“Morticia!” The older woman stood to shake her hand which Morticia took gracefully. “I’m Alice, Enid’s grandmother! This is Anthony, my husband. Our son Murray, Enid’s father, and his own litter!”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Alice!” Gomez cried as he scooped the woman into a tight hug.

Wednesday came from them?

They all joined in cheerful conversation as they waited for the event to start. Eugene had joined them to hang out with Pugsley and the boys talked about insects while the adults got to know each other. Another gentleman joined them and Alice immediately walked over to him.

“Fester Addams! You owe me three thousand rupees!” She called and the pale man looked at her sheepishly before hugging her tightly.

“That I do miss Alice!” He smiled wide as he pulled the money out of his coat pocket.

Music started playing loudly and everyone took their seats as they graduates walked out of the school and took their seats. Both the Sinclairs and Addams waved enthusiastically at their daughters, per usual Enid responded with the same energy while Wednesday glared at them unenthused.

They listened to the achievements of all the students along with the scholarships being passed out before Enid was invited on stage.

“Now introducing 2023’s Nevermore Valedictorian, Enid Sinclair!” The wolf pack absolutely lost their minds as they cheered for her. She was bright red as she walked on stage and waved at everyone.

“Thank you, thank you everyone,” She greeted with a wide smile. “I can’t believe we did it guys. Being an outcast isn’t the easiest thing to handle in the world, but then again neither is high school. I know that we have had out highs and lows, we ever fought a war against an evil pilgrim. Talk about wild,”

Everyone laughed and smiled before continuing, “The world has so much to offer us, we’ve done the work to get in, but now we have to work to stay. Someone very special to us said that we are like a bee hive, all working together towards one great life. I believe it is our jobs to work like soldiers, care like drones, and treat everyone as if they are the queen,”

She looked up to see Eugene blushing and smiling overjoyed.

“I know Nevermore molds and creates highly independent, strong willed people who will stop at nothing to prove themselves. But, I’m here to tell you it’s okay to rely on others, it’s okay to ask for help, and it’s okay to create your own family to rely on,”

Yoko, Bianaca, Ajax, and the rest of their friends smiled and raised their hands in agreement.

“We are only as strong as we allow ourselves to be and it’s not weak to be held up by those who love us. When the people around you love you openly, harshly, and unashamedly I know we can accomplish anything,”

Finally her eyes landed on Wednesday who, even in a crowd of people smiled at her openly, not caring who saw and Enid felt the tears fall down her cheeks as she finished her speech.

“Whatever journeys are about to come from us, travel, college, trades, art, I know we will be able to fall on one another if times get tough. I love you all, and I will be here if any of you need a friend. I hope you share the sentiment as we move forward, we are a bee hive, a pack, a family. Nevermore, we are one. Thank you,”

Everyone cheered and clapped as Enid thanked them and went back to take her seat. She stood by what she said. Whatever was to come was okay, she and Wednesday were a team and life was only just beginning for them.
