After months of preparation, the day was finally here. The bags were packed. The tickets confirmed. Now Rey just had to convince her mom to stop hugging her as they said their goodbyes near the airport security line.

“Do you have everything? Your phone? And your suppressants?” Leia asked, fussing over Rey before turning her attention to Ben.

“Yes, Mom. I’ve packed everything I need.”

“And what about the credit card we gave you in case of an emergency?”

“We’ve gone over this, Mom,” Ben said, clearly annoyed by his mother’s questions. “Four times already.”

“Benjamin Bail Organa-Solo, don’t even get started. I’m allowed to be concerned about my children flying across the country for a week.”

“I’m seventeen. Not a kid anymore,” Ben complained, rolling his eyes at his mother.

“Sweetheart, it’s time to say goodbye to the kids,” Han interjected, not giving Leia a chance to respond.

“Fine,” Leia huffed, “Give me a hug then.”

“Mom,” Ben protested when she pulled him into a hug, holding him tight for a moment before doing the same thing to Rey.

“Promise me you’ll let us know when you land. And I expect regular updates,” Leia said when she finally stepped back to stand next to Han.

“And make sure you look after your brother, Rey. You know how he likes to get into trouble,” Han teased, knowing full well that if either of the teens were to cause problems, it would be Rey. She was too much like Han to pass up an opportunity for mischief.

“We will,” Rey assured as she gave Han one last hug before grabbing her carry-on and walking over to where the chaperones waited.

Rey and Ben were leaving on Chandrila Academy’s annual trip to Washington DC. It was always a highly anticipated event for the juniors and seniors and though it wasn’t mandatory, traveling across the country – far away from any parents and with only a few chaperones accompanying them – meant that the slots were quickly filled.

It wasn’t something Rey ever thought she would be able to do – the costs too high for her to ever consider – but when Han and Leia decided to become her foster parents a few years ago, she quickly realized just how much her life had changed. It wasn’t every day that an orphaned nobody found themselves living with such a well-to-do family as the Organa-Solos.

Sure, Han would sometimes grumble about the cost of sending two high schoolers to the private academy. And just when Rey thought she might need to apologize and suggest that they send her to the nearby public school instead, Leia would roll her eyes at Han and say something about her husband spending more on his cars each month than the cost of tuition.

But really, becoming part of the Organa-Solo family was nice. Han and Leia were loving parents – from the first day, treating her as if she had always been their daughter – and Ben was surprisingly cool with having a younger sister.

And even now, as Rey left on a school trip for DC with Ben and about thirty other classmates, she was reminded of their generosity and kindness.

Groans echoed through the airport terminal when the announcement flashed on the screen that flight #3584 to DC was canceled. When they'd landed in Detroit earlier, everyone had been happy to wander through the terminal while they waited for their connecting flight. But between a delay with the plane itself and the airline unable to get a full crew together when the issue was finally fixed, any excitement had quickly waned as they waited, curious to find out what their chaperones planned on doing now.

Eventually, Mr. Ackbar returned from talking to the airline employees to announce that they would be staying in a nearby hotel for the night. The next available flight to DC that could accommodate the entire group wouldn’t leave until the next day. As it was, they were lucky that the airline had anything that would work for their group and even luckier still that he'd managed to find a hotel with several rooms available at the last minute.

Coordinating transportation to the hotel was a pain, but after a short trip down the road, the group of exhausted teens and anxious chaperones found themselves standing in the hotel lobby as they waited for their room assignments.

“Alright, how are you going to divide up the rooms, then?” Rose asked, glancing around at the group gathered. “There aren’t enough left for each of us to have our own bed.”

“Yeah,” Hux complained. “Our parents paid extra so we wouldn’t have to share.”

“Finn and I don’t mind. We’re happy to share a bed,” Poe offered, wrapping an arm around his boyfriend’s waist with a grin.

“Hold up, we don’t want shenanigans going on. This is supposed to be a school trip,” Ackbar said, scowling at the grinning teens as he knew exactly what would happen if the chaperones weren’t careful.

“We would never,” Poe said, acting affronted as he placed a hand on his chest and tried to look innocent.

“Hmm…” Ackbar scowled. “No couples in a room. I don’t want to have any awkward conversations with your parents when we get back.”

“Better separate them by designations, too,” Antilles suggested. “They’re all supposed to be on suppressants, but we don’t need to risk any surprise heats or ruts.”

“Right,” Ackbar agreed, reaching in his bag for the folder containing all the students’ information.

It took a few minutes to get everything sorted out, but the rooms were soon assigned, and the teens were sent on their way with the warning that the chaperones would be checking in on them in an hour.

“Hey, wait, why do Solo and Niima get to share a room?” Hux whined as the rest of the group headed to their rooms.

“What?” Antilles asked, turning to look over at him.

“The rest of us had to be separated by designations. Why do they get to share?”

“We don’t have enough space for them in the other rooms. Not unless you are volunteering to sleep on the floor so Solo can take your place,” Antilles scowled, clearly tired and wanting to get to his own bed soon. “Besides, they’re siblings. I think everyone would already know if their designations were going to cause problems.”

“Fine,” Hux muttered, shooting a glare over at Ben and Rey before marching down the hallway to one of the rooms assigned to the alpha students.

“Hux is an ass,” Rey said, tossing her bag on the floor as she immediately flopped down on the king-sized bed when they entered the room. “I don’t understand why you even bother to talk to him.”

“He’s usually not so bad,” Ben said absentmindedly as he took his time to explore the room.

It was nice enough, the typical sort of room one would expect at a 2.5-star hotel, but Rey thought it already felt cramped with just the two of them. At least she only had to share the room with Ben, and not three other people like most of the others did. He wouldn’t keep her up half the night gossiping and giggling about the cute alphas on the trip.

“Well, you’re not the one that had to sit near him on the plane,” Rey grumbled, reaching behind her to fluff up one of the pillows. “He made everyone miserable with his complaining.”

Rey could see the indecision on Ben’s face as he stared at the bed for a minute before gingerly sitting down next to her. Despite living in the same household since she was 12, they hadn’t shared a room before. And she had to admit that it was a little… awkward knowing that her very attractive, very large – very alpha – foster brother was going to sleep right next to her.

“So… are you okay with sharing the bed?” Ben asked, reaching to plug in his phone charger as he sat on the very edge of the bed. “I… I can figure something else out. Maybe the chair or… or the floor.”

“What? No. Why would you even ask?” Rey paused scrolling through her phone as she glanced up at Ben in confusion. The situation wasn’t ideal, but they’d become close over the past few years – surely one night wouldn’t impact their friendship.

“Well, you’re my sister. Isn’t it a little weird?”

“I think that’s why we got paired in the first place. Besides, I'd rather share with you than one of the chaperones.”

“Oh. Yeah. Right.”

An awkward sort of silence settled over the room as Rey went back to scrolling through her phone, trying to waste time until the chaperones checked in on them. She just hoped the rough start to the trip didn’t mean that the rest of the week was going to be like this.

Falling asleep that night was more difficult than Rey expected as she tossed and turned on the bed for almost an hour, unable to get comfortable. The mattress was surprisingly lumpy, and despite it being a king-sized bed, it felt barely big enough for the two of them. How Ben had managed to fall asleep already was a mystery.

Though maybe the fact that he stripped down to his boxer briefs before climbing into bed helped because, god, was the air conditioner even working?

The room felt sticky and warm even with most of the covers kicked off, and it seemed to only grow hotter as the minutes ticked by. Rey didn’t know how she was supposed to sleep when she was sweating so much.

And then there was the damn itching. Her skin was crawling, begging to be soothed, and the incessant itchy feeling on her glands made her want to scream in frustration. If this kept up, she was going to break through her skin, trying to scratch away at her mating gland.

What the hell was going on?

Rey knew she was up to date on her suppressants – she was always careful about not missing a dose – and her next heat wasn’t until after the school year ended. Besides, the school had required doctors’ notes for all of the alpha and omega students, and there was no way they would have let her go on the trip if there was a risk of her going into heat.

Fuck, this was becoming unbearable.

There was one thing that might help her fall asleep – it’d always worked in the past – but she was trying to resist the temptation.

Not with Ben lying right next to her on the bed.
