Allen Zoldyck wasn’t one to cause trouble, sure he received the short end of the stick by being a cursed member of the Zoldyck family. And he wasn’t really the most liked one out of them. But he never made a fuss about it. So why is it that he was taken from a mission, and sent to a random school for prideful idiot boys who clearly have issues and need a therapist? If someone sent him here to help then they picked the wrong person, because he’s pretty sure either him or Nanika will just end up murdering everyone here.

Notes:

This is my first time attempting an actual long-standing fanfic guys. Also the characters might be OOC because Yana made them all so complex 😭😭 Was originally going to make Allen a Yuu-type but decided why not. Not exactly sure if I should add a Yuu to the story though

Chapter 1: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟭🔪🩸

Notes:

there will be graphic descriptions because MC is an assassin guys, he’s killed people and he’s a kid so he’s traumatized. If that bothers you then please DO NOT READ!! Don’t come at me in the comments

Chapter Text

Blood trickled down his head as he walked past the fields of blush-colored flowers. His arm clutched his side where a sharp object had impaled him. Anyone else would’ve been crying out in pain, but the boy remained unphased and had an expressionless face.

It didn’t matter if he got hurt, he got the job done. That was all that mattered.

He did the job, and he did it successfully without shaming the family name.

His small injuries didn’t matter, as long as he kept pressure on the wounded area, the stab would eventually heal. If his brothers had done the job instead, they would’ve done it without getting hurt.

He truly is a lost cause. Such a useless child, who couldn’t even get an assassination done without injuring himself. This must be why his mother and father didn’t love him.

But the good thing is that he discovered a new part of his nen. He could now turn himself into petals, which would prove to be useful in upcoming missions.

Maybe his father would be proud of him.

The sound of flapping wings cut through the air above, making him look up. It was his b̶r̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶'̶s̶ Milluki’s bird, it had a note tied to its leg. Probably a kill confirmation letter from his father. The person he’d assassinated was both a problem to the client and his family, so it was important that the job went well.

He held out his arm so the bird could land on it. Once the sound of the bird’s wings slicing through the air ceased, he carefully unknotted the letter that was tied to the bird’s leg and opened it up.

It read,

𝘈𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯, 𝘐 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦. 𝘛𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦.

He neatly folded the paper up and hid it in his furisode. The bird flew away as soon as he finished reading the letter, flying back home to Milluki.

As he was preparing to leave, a ringing noise echoed in his head. This made him halt as a sudden dizziness engulfed his body.

What was going on?

No poisons should’ve been able to infect him like this. He wouldn’t brag, but he had one of the highest poison tolerances in his family, even better than Killua’s!

𝐀𝐡𝐡….𝐌𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝

What was that sound, was someone there with him? There’s no way he wouldn’t have been able to detect it, he had a large En radius, and he would’ve picked it up with his heightened senses no matter how good the other’s Zetsu was.

𝐀 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐥

What is it saying? Is the voice calling him a ‘flower of evil?’ He turned around in all directions, trying to find out where it was coming from.

𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐥𝐥

𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫

He couldn’t find the origin of the voice. Who was talking to him?

𝐀𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬

𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫

The faint image of a mirror started to materialize in front of him. This alerted him as he prepared for what seemed to be a battle.

Though he could not sense any malicious intent coming from the mirror.

A hand seemed to reach out from the mirror, as though it wanted him to grab onto it. Oddly, he felt allured by the hand. Like he was under a spell that he couldn’t break out of, a lull, that guided him to the mirror, urging him to grab onto the hand.

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮.

Its voice seemed comforting to him. Like the soft lullabies his mother used to sing for him when he was s̶t̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶h̶u̶m̶a̶n̶ a child. But he is not a child any longer, he is an e̶v̶i̶l̶ ̶c̶r̶e̶a̶t̶u̶r̶e̶ assassin.

𝐍𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭,

𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐠𝐨 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝.

Though he’d never met this mirror or the voice before, he found himself compelled to obey it. He didn’t want to let go of its hand, ever.

He gradually moved closer and closer until his own hand gripped onto that of the mirror, though his hand was significantly smaller than the mirror’s.

With heavy eyes, he lost consciousness and fell into the grasps of the mirror.

Chapter 2: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟮🔪🩸

Summary:

Our (un)fortunate protagonist lands himself in Twisted Wonderland, while thinking he got kidnapped by a cult and is going to become a human sacrifice.....Luckily Nanika is here to help him!

Notes:

I'm using she/her pronouns for Nanika, sorry if that offends anybody.....but like I started the draft of these first couple chapters giving Nanika they/them pronouns so it might accidentally switch between the two

Also, Allen's thinking is sometimes in Italics and underlined sentences is Nanika speaking to Allen in his head

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The boy woke up startled, his nen not recognizing his surroundings. I seem to be in an enclosed space, a box perhaps, the boy thought.

He punched the material that blocked his way out, puncturing a large hole in that spot.

Allen jumped through the hole, landing on his feet like a cat would. How intriguing, he thought, Where do you think we are Nanika? He asked the entity inside of him. A dark aura seemed to separate from him and take the form of a boy with the same look as him, except the face. Its face was white with black pools of emptiness for its eyes and mouth.

Don’t know, but not same dimension as before

Not the same dimension? This was certainly not what he expected when he was drawn in by that mirror, he surely thought he was being kidnapped, or his client double crossed him and sent someone to take him out.

Which would’ve been a completely possible answer, no matter how much a client employed the Zoldyck’s services, the bounty that was on their family was in the billions.

Humans are very greedy

Allen silently nodded to that statement. Which is why you shouldn’t trust them, he warned.

But you are human, I trust you

I’m more of a monster than human, that’s what our…. Allen paused, ‘family’ says, the word ‘family’ feels weird on his tongue, when was he ever considered a family member outside of birth?

The conversation he was having with Nanika seemed to have distracted him from his situation. As he was wandering around, he noticed something. He looked down in confusion, he wasn’t wearing these clothes before. In fact, he doesn’t think he’s ever worn anything like this. It was black with gold and purple accents, it draped over his body beautifully and felt as soft as silk. It probably was silk.

Such high quality, maybe I should buy something like this for you Nanika. Nanika’s eyes shined with stars in them, as she nodded her head up and down. As Allen was walking, his En picked up something. There seemed to be a cluster of people in an area, a large cluster of people. There seemed to be more than 300 people, and they felt around his age, a few years older maybe?

Let’s head there Nanika, he told them as he ran there. Nanika simply hovered herself and floated alongside him.

Once he finally got there, he took a good look at the people, they were wearing the same robe as him and Nanika. And they were all crowded around a mirror.

So I didn’t get kidnapped by someone, or double crossed….but taken by a cult? He questioned. If he had a dollar for every time he got kidnapped by a cult, he would have two, which isn’t much, but still weird to think about.

People were slowly going up to the mirror and saying their names, and then the mirror yelled out a word. The word seemed to be an affiliation of sorts, it reminded him of a movie Killua was watching, Horsie Ponner….Horny Potter? Who knows, he’d long forgotten the name of it. A guy with carrot colored hair walked up to the mirror.

“State thy name”

“Ace Trappola,” the guy answered.

“Heartslabyul!”

The mirror’s voice boomed, a group of people cheered as the boy named ‘Ace’ walked over to them.

It looks like a sorting ceremony, like Harry Potter!

I see, Allen thought. If that was true, then all he had to do was go up to the mirror and say his name, then he would also get sorted. But the problem was how he was going to get home, his father would certainly be angry at him. It looked like he was the last person left, so he went up to the mirror, and that’s when he realized.

This was the same mirror that had told him to take its hand earlier, it was the same one! The face in the mirror seemed to have slightly smiled instead of its usual frowning face, but no one noticed.

❝State thy name❝

“Allen Zol–” he paused, should he really say his last name out loud? It would be best not to.

He cleared his throat, “Allen.…Zilck” he said. The name was close enough to his real last name, but somehow, he felt happy he didn’t have to say his last name was Zoldyck, it seemed more natural to say ‘Zilck.’ It seemed more natural to say anything but Zoldyck.

❝…..❝

The mirror sure was taking a lot of time with its decision.

❝Ignihyde!❝

Its voice was said, yet it seemed to whisper something to him.

❝You two do not belong there, but it is the safest place. Be careful little ones.❝

Allen looked confused, but nodded anyway, no one seemed to have heard the mirror say the last part. He looked over to a couple hands that were raised to signal it was where the Ignihyde people were. But no cheering took place as it did with the previous guy.

This place is weird, I don’t like it

Neither do I, he thought to Nanika. The place wasn’t even close to being as suffocating as the Zoldyck manor, but it still had an eerie feel. Though he couldn’t quite put a finger on what gave it that feeling.

Though he’d never been here before, Allen could clearly tell he wouldn’t be able to get home that easily. It would be best to remain inconspicuous so he could gather information quickly, and then leave as soon as he did. There wasn’t any need to stay here, he didn’t have any missions here, and father would definitely not want him to stay any where other than the Zoldyck mansion unless it was for a mission.

So he should go home…… home, was he really able to call that place home?

But if that wasn’t his home, then what was?

Notes:

Oki so in case you haven't noticed, the underlined text is Nanika speaking to Allen in his mind, and sometimes the italics is Allen's thinking

Chapter 3: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟯🔪🩸

Summary:

Allen gets his new class schedule and heads out for orientation, ignihyde dorm is......petty unproblematic to say the least ( no one bothers him, but do people even live there?? )

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The ceremony had finally finished and after some commotion that Allen didn’t pay much attention to, he got to go to his dorm. Nanika however, did pay attention to the commotion, the fire seemed attracted to her, even though it couldn’t physically harm her. She spent the entire walk to what Allen assumed was Ignihyde dorm, cursing out some racoon-cat.

The person who the Ignihyde dorm leader, a floating tablet…….led them all back to their dorm. Allen didn’t understand why he was a tablet, maybe it was his nen–if this place had nen. The tablet also spoke in a weird language and randomly said acronyms that he didn’t understand.

What did ‘L-O-L’ mean? He couldn’t fathom how one understood such weird gibberish.

Killua used it when texting Gon on his phone.

I see, he said to Nanika. It seemed even she didn’t understand. Maybe it mean’t something in a different language, like a secret language that people use as code. It might be similar to the code words he used with…… nevermind.  He looked around the room he was given, it seemed Ignihyde students didn’t have roomates. Luckily, he didn’t have to share his room with anyone. He preferred it that way, now no one could disturb him when he did things.

Another thing concerned him, did this world know who his family was? And does he still have his money?

He wasn’t still the naive little boy who clung on to his older sister. He knew how the world worked, it ran on money and connections. It was all about who you knew, who knew you, who you were, and how much you were worth.

Without this, you were nothing in the world.

And it didn’t matter which world he was in, it would always be the same as long as humans existed.

Check the suitcase Nanika told him, pointing to the suitcase that had somehow appeared to the side of his bed. He turned towards the suitcase and walked to it, kneeling on the floor to open it. Perhaps it had his stuff, which would be weird, because according to Nanika, he wasn’t even in the same dimension as before.

He opened the suitcase and his eyes widened.

Nanika swirled around him with excitement in their eyes. She seemed to be very happy.

Our things…..my dresses, your clothes…..and money! Problems solved! Now we can stay forever

Allen paused at that, stay forever? Could he really, have the luxury, to stay here? He didn’t add anything more on that part.

But he was glad he had all his things, and his money. But would it be the same currency as this world? He recalled from the book he borrowed from the Ignihyde library that this world’s money currency was madol. He did not know how many jenny equaled a madol, or any conversion.

While looking through his suitcase, he found a jacket. His sister made it for him, when she was still alive there. It had brownish pink sleeves with pink cuffs, and was cropped. He looked at it fondly, as if recalling memories, from a happier time. Before he became a monster, before she died left him.

Snapping out of his daze, Allen rummaged more through his suitcase. He pulled out a necklace. A gold necklace. One that Illumi gave him for his 15th birthday when the older Zoldyck had came back from his mission and found out that he was doing well on missions.

He supposed all the gold items that Illumi had given him were there as reminders that he was part of the Zoldyck family, and used them to claim him for their family. (as if he were an object)

But that didn’t matter to Allen right now.

A drop of blood fell to the ground, rolling off of his face. His fingers reached towards the open wound that had likely been unattended to for a long time. It seemed that the wound hadn’t naturally closed up, which was quite annoying.

Should I help?

Nanika looked worried for him. Allen was going to reject her offer, but decided to just go with it. If he tried to fix himself up, there were bound to be scars and that would draw attention. Attention was the last thing he needed, especially when it could mess up his plans.

He nodded, letting Nanika heal him.

A dark glow of aura came from Nanika’s hands as she brought them to where the wound was. The aura spread to his skin, eating away at the wound and the blood on his forehead. The aura disappeared after that.

Nanika took her hands down, clapping slowley with a smile on her face.

I fixed it! I healed you!

She cheered while clapping her hands.

Are you proud of me?

Nanika asked, expecting praise. She loved it when Allen praised her, it always made her happy.

A tiny smile spread across Allen’s face as his eyes softened as he reached his hand out and patted her head. “I’m very proud of you Nanika,” he told her, “good job.”

A knock on the door interrupted the moment the two were having. Allen stood up as Nanika flew to his side. He walked to the door and opened it, expecting someone to be there. To his surprise, no one was at the door.

Allen looked around the hallway, no one was around. Maybe he was hearing things?

Then he looked to the ground, a box lied at the front of his door. He grabbed the box and took it into his room, closing the door behind him.

Perhaps the people of his dorm didn’t like confrontation with others? That would explain the lack of human interaction that seemed to be happening at Ignihyde.

Carefully opening the box—it was black with blue accents, he peaked inside with Nanika eagerly waiting to see what it was.

The box had clothes inside of it. They seemed to be the dorm uniform and the school uniform, as well as Ignihyde themed shoes. You see, the dorm allows you to either go with the standard uniform, or you can design one yourself and have it sent to the dorm leader, who gives it off the headmaster and returns it back to you.

Allen originally wasn’t going to bother with changing the uniform, but one disgusted and judging look from Nanika made him change his mind.

The dorm jacket was in a poncho coat style, though it still had its weird little triangles and overall color scheme. The jacket reached his mid thighs, and had a hood, a zipper, and a large collar that covered his mouth. The blue accents remained the same.

Instead of sleeves, his jacket had long slits for his arms to poke out of. Underneath his jacket was a white, collarless sweater, with long puffy sleeves. The material was quite soft, kind of like silk. The pants were simple and plain black that flared at the ends.

The jacket was quite warm and comfy. Oh how he loved oversized things.

This was great and all, but not what they should be focusing on at the moment. Allen looked at the time, there was about 15 minutes left till orientation would begin. And he didn’t know where his class was, Class 1A. Night Raven College always held an orientation each year so that new students could meet their teachers and find their classes, and other students could find out what they would learn this year. Every student was required to wear the NRC uniform during orientation, so Allen quickly slipped out of his dorm uniform and into the school clothing.

“I don’t know where my classes are, so it would be best if we went to go find them now,” he told Nanika, “the school is quite big, so I don’t want to get lost and be late.”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡

He was required to take a test before he left for orientation. Allen didn’t know why, but he had to. The test was for the school to, “asses their intellect,” so he thought it would be quite hard.

It wasn’t hard. Most of the questions were things that he had studied as a child and apart of Zoldyck required learning. And he just guessed with logical reasoning on the magical part. Though he did have some background knowledge though he had studied quite a bit in the Ignihyde library.

Afterwards, he was given a new schedule, and it looked much different than his old one. But Allen didn’t pay much mind to it. His new class was, 2E.

And with that finally over, Allen, with Nanika by his side, set off to go find their classes.

Notes:

You may have picked up on Nanika being a little judgy...and she is. She isn't like this in the anime or manga, and that's because of some lore that I haven't explained yet and because I wanted to give Nanika a little more personality. This is fanfiction, so like, I can do whatever I want. I am likely not going to explain the a lot of the background behind this until the first overblot.

Oh and this book doesn't exactly follow the canon plotline, and yes, Yuu exists here, so Allen might not be as involved with Ace and Deuce until further into Book 1 (these first chapters are just Allen getting situated into NRC)
❤️❤️❤️

Chapter 4: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟰🔪🩸

Summary:

Nanika is judgy....very judgy. And Allen apparently doesn't have good taste

Chapter Text

Allen walked through NRC looking for class E. He stumbled upon mainstreet and was greeted with 7 large statues on each side of the pathway.

Nanika floated around them, looking curiously at them. From what he studied at the Ignihyde library, this world worshipped 7 figures of power called The Great Seven. And each dorm in Night Raven was based on them, with their students fitting certain aspects of the person their dorm was modeled after.

His own dorm, Ignihyde, was based off of the King of the Underworld. Back home, the King of the Underworld was called Hades. All of the Great Seven were villains of popular Disney movies in his world. But here, they seemed to be powerful wizards.

This school is seeming more and more like a cult when I think about it

That’s a little rude don’t you think? He told Nanika, and then he saw some rando praying towards one of the statues, or actually nevermind, I see it now, he deadpanned.

It’s been a good 10 minutes, and he still didn’t know where class E was. At this rate, he was going to miss orientation, and that was not a good way to start off the school year. He didn’t want to already get off on a bad foot with his professors. In the distance he saw a ghost. From what he could tell, the ghosts were staff members, and for some reason, students were scared of them.

Which was weird since they all looked cartoonish. He walked up to one of the ghosts.

“Excuse me?” he called out to the ghost. The ghost turned around.

“Do you need something kid?” the ghost asked him. “Yes,” Allen paused, “do you know where class 2E is?”

The ghost was surprised again. Since when do students at this school ask for help or directions? Most of them would rather skip orientation than ask for directions in fear of wounding their prides. ( how that would wound their prides, he doesn't know )

“Just walk straight and then turn left once you see a large painting,” the ghost told him, “and your class will be the 2nd door.”

Allen nodded and thanked the ghost before running off with Nanika floating by his side.

The ghost looked at the boys fleeting silhouette while placing his broom down. Some other ghosts came up to him.

“Did I hear wrong, or did that guy just thank you?” the  others questioned, clearly not believing their ears. The ghost just laughed it off with a smirk on his face.

“Well I’ll be damned, this school year sure will be interesting.” he said, secretly hoping it would be a pain to Crowley. What he would give to make that bird brain suffer, what all the staff would give for the headmaster to suffer.

♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡

Allen arrived to class 2-E a good 5 minutes before orientation started. He entered the classroom and immediately noticed that there weren’t many people there. He thought people would definitely show up so they could meet their new teachers.

He spotted a red head. The boy had vivid red hair, grey eyes, and a stern look on his face. It would probably be best not to get on his bad side.

Nanika eyed him, she could tell the boy had large magical prowess, though it was completely different to that of nen. The boy, and many others, seemed to have little-to-no nen at all in this world.

He saw that there were names on each seat, most likely their assigned seats for the year. Allen searched for his name, his eyes landing on the name tag with ‘Allen Z’ on it. Unluckily, the desk next to his was the red head’s.

And he thought this school would make the seats assigned by alphabetical order, but he supposes they’re randomized to rule out any bias. Allen walked to the second row and sat in his desk, trying not to make eye contact with the boy next to him.

He could tell the stern looking boy would only cause problems for him.

The red head glanced towards him, looking him up and down, his lips formed a frown.

The boy turned towards him and cleared his throat. “I don’t recall seeing you around,” his eyes trailed down to Allen’s armband, “but given that you’re an Ignihyde student, that’s expected.”

Allen blinked, why was this boy talking to him? Unnecessary human interactions, he thought, like a true Ignihyde student, Allen cringes at the that.

“Since we are to be seated next to each other for the entirety of the year, I supposed introductions are in order.” The boy said. “My name is Riddle Rosehearts, housewarden of Heartslabyul.” He said, holding out his hand to shake. Was everyone this formal?

“Allen Zilck…” he said, raising a weary hand to shake Riddle’s. The boy gave an affirmative and turned back around.

In the little time he and Riddle were exchanging names, the room was filled with slightly more students. Not as much as he expected, but still more than before.

The professor then walked through the doors. Allen first took notice of the man’s clear fashion expertise. The professor had black and white hair, and wore a suit with a fur jacket. Turns out one of his professors was his new eye candy. I mean, he had to survive school somehow. He usually picked out a good looking person to admire when he was on his missions or when he was sent to heavens arena, how was he expected to go on without hot men, or women.

I’ve mentioned you have terrible taste correct. The guy with the dog kink, really???

To each their own Nanika, we don’t kink shame here, this is a safe space……. is it really one? Allen didn’t know, but he did want to defend his tastes.

Whoever told you this was a safe space lied.

“Alright puppies!” the man exclaimed, “As most of you know, I’m professor Crewel, but you may call me Master Crewel.”

Crewel eyed the students, as if examining them. He then huffed and rambled on about things that would be taught that year. But for some reason, Allen felt that these things were too advanced for a first year.

Maybe it was because he wasn’t used to being taught things like this?

The bell rang after some time, signalling it was time for another classes orientation. Allen got up to walk out of class, but was stopped by the professor.

“You, wait.” he demanded. Allen sighed mentally, this could not mean anything good. “What are you doing here pup?” Crewel asked. This made Allen more confused, what did he mean? He was supposed to be in this class. Could Professor Crewel have figured out he didn't belong in this world?

“I’m here for my orientation?” he said, unsure of why he was being asked this. Crewel shook his head, “I know that, but you’re clearly a first year student, I’ve never seen you before, and I remember all my students.”

Allen tilted his head to the side. “Is this not class 2E?” he questioned. “This is 2E, but it’s 2 –E, which means 2nd year, class E.” Crewel told him, clearly getting annoyed by his clueless-ness.

Taking out his schedule from his pocket, Allen looked at it. The words 2E were written clearly on it, unless he was going blind. Allen gave his schedule to the teacher, perhaps he would have more understanding of the situation.

Crewel examined the paper, it did indeed say class 2E, he then looked back down at the Ignihyde boy. Maybe he was advanced, but Crowley would’ve said something to him, and the boy clearly knew nothing of this. Then again, it was Crowley they were talking about. The idiot probably forgot.

Crewel sighed, “Just go on,” he told the student, “I’ll inform you more later Puppy.”

Allen blinked, looking confused, and then took his schedule back to leave the classroom and find his next class.

This day was not off not a great start.

Notes:

Just chapter dumping this stuff, but like, the chapters are kind of short. I'm thinking of drawing Allen to show how he would look like, not in his Ignihyde uniform, becus I can't draw those triangles, but in his NRC uniform.

Just for the art police, I'm a trashy drawer, so I will be using a drawing base online if I do draw Allen ( just putting that out there so no one comes after me )
❤️❤️❤️
** there will be graphic descriptions because allen is an assassin man, he’s killed people and he’s a kid so he’s traumatized. If that bothers you then please DO NOT READ!! Don’t come at me in the comments**

Chapter 5: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟱🔪🩸

Summary:

Headmaster Crowley calls Allen up for an explanation to his schedule

Notes:

This is a short chapter, I didn't know how to put this into the previous chapter, but like, I couldn't write more either, so short chapter update!

Chapter Text

One thing Allen realized right away, was that his schedule was very.…wonky. Some of his classes were second year classes and he even had a third year class. Out of all this, he only had one first year class. And he was a first year!

He’s been to so many home rooms, and has been asked by many teachers if he was in the right class or not.

But luckily he had finished orientation day. The only bad side to this was that he was currently in the headmaster’s office.

Allen saw some familiar faces, he saw Crewel, Trein, and Vargas. And then there was the headmaster. Crowley always seemed like an odd fellow to him. By that he meant the guy looked like a distant cousin of the messenger crow that Illumi uses.

“Ah, you must be wondering why I called you here,” the headmaster’s voice broke his train of thought. “We’ve come to discuss your….. mixed up schedule.”

So that was why he’d been called down. He was afraid he’d done something wrong, but this eased his worries.

“You do remember that test you had to take before coming to orientation right Pup?” Crewel questioned. Allen nodded his head, it was the test he was required to take or the people at his dorm wouldn’t allow him to step foot outside of it. “That test is to see how much of the school curriculum you already know. It would be a waste of time if we taught puppies things they already knew instead of things they didn’t. So this test was a way to decide what classes you’d be taking.” Crewel explained to him.

His explanation made sense. That must be the reason why he had so many second and third year classes when he was only a first year. He probably got a good score on the test.

You’re very smart Ally…only in studies though

He didn’t know if that was a complement or an insult.

Crewel then broke out into a smile, “You’re quite the talented pup, and unlike most first years, you scored quite high.” The man went behind the headmaster’s desk and pulled out a piece of paper.

“This is what classes in your first year you would’ve taken but have skipped, and what classes you will be taking. They’re all organized by which year level they are.” Crewel handed the paper to him.

Crowley was about to speak up when Trein cut him off. “There is another student who isn’t a first year, a second year, but he’s also skipped a couple classes like you.”  Headmaster Crowley seemed to be upset at being interrupted, but continued for Trein nonetheless.

“Yes yes, his name is Flaun, an Octavinelle student,” the headmaster said, “I even put you two in some of the same classes so you could bond together. Aren’t I so gracious, to think about even my student’s happiness, I am truly a model educator!”

Another thing Allen found weird about the headmaster. He, for some reason, had some sort of narcissistic ego-boosting complex.

This man is weird. He reminds me of a bird, and kind of like Milluki. I don’t like him

Allen found himself nodding in agreement. He normally wasn’t one to judge, but the headmaster really hadn’t given him a great first impression.

He looked over to his teachers and found Professor Crewel rolling his eyes at the headmaster’s theatrics and Proffessor Trein shaking his head in disappointment. It seemed this was a regular occurrence to them. Again, not a great impression of Crowley.

“Ahem,” Crowley cleared his throat, “all in all, you have one first year class and a mix of second and third year classes. You’re schedule is with you and though you are younger than most in your classes, you still won’t be excused for any misbehavior.”

Allen nodded again.

Trein raised an eyebrow. He knew how Ignihyde students could be, but the long haired boy before him was very very quiet, and only nodded. But Trein didn’t question any further, Allen seemed well behaved and was clearly gifted, and that’s really all he needed in a student.

“That will be all now Mr. Zilck.” Crowley said, sending him off.

Allen walked away with Nanika by his side, heading to his dorm. That was quite the long discussion. And it was a little nerve-wracking, perhaps that’s why students didn’t like being in the principal’s office at schools.

But it was fine, classes would begin tomorrow and it would be the start of the school year. Yet somehow, Allen could tell something was going to go wrong this year. Perhaps it was with him being an anomaly since he wasn't supposed to go to school here, or with the fact that he doesn't have magic, or maybe even the fact that the Dark Mirror seemed to know Nanika and himself.

But something bad was going to happen, he could just feel it.

Notes:

EDIT (10/4/25) the character Alois Luer was scrapped for anyone who remember's him, and for readers who don't know what i'm talking about, it's just an unimportant character I decided not to add into the story and have been removing the name of in the chapters he's mentioned.

Chapter 6: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟲🔪🩸

Summary:

Allen makes a new friend and goes kinda crazy over it, while Nanika is tired of dealing with his attention/love/friendship starved behavior. Why is she stuck with someone with terrible taste? Nanika doesn't know.

Chapter Text

It was his first actual day of classes, though he wasn’t nervous. Lessons in the Zoldyck household proved quite useful when it came to alchemy and potion theory.

However, how he would do in the actual magic field, he didn’t know.

Currently, Allen was sitting in Trein’s history class. Professor Trein walked into class with Proffessor Crewel by his side. The two had a serious look on their faces, as always.

“Alright puppies! We’re starting off with ancient runes. And yes, I am co-teaching with Trein in this unit.” Professor Crewel told the class, his eyes wandered from student to student till they landed on Allen and the student in front of him

Crewel and Trein both spent some time explaining how ancient runes worked and what they were.

“Ancient runes are symbols that can be written in different shapes. Each rune has its own incantation, so when a mage chooses to use runes to preform magic, they must know what incantations match each rune. Mages can create runes or use already created runes to preform spells, however, rune magic is stronger when the person who created it chants the incantation and the spell.”

Crewel paused, eyeing Trein and silently motioning for him to continue with the assignment. Trein cleared his throat and spoke to the class with Lucius resting in his arms.

“For this assignment, you’ll have to be in groups of 2 or 3. You will be in charge of creating your own rune. Each person must present their rune in class, explain what symbols were used and what the rune does. Then, they must incant the rune. Your grade will be based on your presentation, but 80% of it is whether or not the rune successfully works.”

“You may now—” Crewel checked his watch, “—for the last 5 minutes of class, pick your groups.”

With that, Crewel and Trein dismissed their students to chatter amongst themselves and pick their groups.

Allen however, had no idea what to do.

He did not know anyone in this class, neither had he made any new friends in his classes either. Sometimes he wished the teacher had just picked random pairs so he wouldn’t seem lonely.

You could ask the pretty teacher to do the assignment alone

Allen shook his head at that, not paying attention to Nanika’s description for Crewel-sensai. If I ask to work alone, then I might not finish the assignment, the professors wouldn’t make us choose partners if they thought we could handle the assignment by ourselves. While the boy was talking to Nanika in his mind, a certain red-head beside him was also pondering who to partner with in the assignment.

The red-head, Riddle Rosehearts, considered his options, choose other people in the class that would most likely just slow him down with their uselessness, or partner with the boy next to him who seemed to be in the same dilemma, and looked less incompetent than the others.

The Heartslabyul prefect opted for the latter.

Riddle turned to the boy with the headband next to him. Clearing his throat, he asked, “Would you like to be partners for the project?” His stern eyes scrutinized the blue-eyed boy as if daring him to be fool enough to refuse.

He was Riddle Rosehearts after all, prefect of Heartslabyul, there was no way that an Ignihyde student wouldn’t want to be partnered with him on an academic project. Being with him would guarantee the boy a perfect A on the assignment.

“Sure,” Allen said, a little too curtly than he’d intended, but oh well.

Allen, who hadn’t picked up on the pride in Riddle’s voice, thought a marvelous opportunity had arised. Now he would be spared the embarrassment of being partnered with the last person left in the classroom. He was truly grateful to this Riddle person, perhaps he’d misjudged him earlier.

“Ah, in case you forgot, my name is Allen Zilck,” he told the red-head, politely introducing himself again. Hopefully this way the boy would take the hint and also say his name.

Allen may or not have forgotten the red-head’s name.

I don’t get good vibes from him

You judge everyone Nanika, Allen sweatdropped. According to Nanika, he was completely unreliable when it came to making ‘friends’ because he had a terrible judge of character.

Which was completely not true, because he was an assassin. Assassins had to have impeccable sense of character so they didn’t get misled by someone.

You just don’t get it

Allen ignored her.

“The name’s Riddle Rosehearts, and do remember it, I’m not fond of nicknames.” Riddle internally shuddered as he thought of a certain Octavinelle student’s insufferable pet-name for him.

The bell rang, signalling it was time for the next class.

Riddle got up and grabbed his books, he wouldn’t want to be late to his next class, Allen followed suit.

Riddle handed Allen a piece of paper, “This is my number, we can use our phones to communicate outside of class,” Allen took the paper from the boy, muttering a small thank you.

OMGOMGOMGOMG I got someone’s number!!! I made my first friend—wait, this does mean we’re friends right? But assassins can’t have friends, that’s what Illumi said…….you know what, screw Illumi. I’m friends with this tiny cute boy!!

Somehow I knew you’d react like this, this is what happens when little humans are deprived of love and affection as children

“Do not send me any unnecessary things, or I’ll have your head,” the red-head warned, though he could tell that the headband boy—Allen—wouldn’t do so. Allen dismissed the threat however.

Allen grabbed his books, keeping Riddle’s number in a safe pocket, and walked out of the classroom, with Riddle by his side.

“What is your next class?” Allen asked the shorter male out of curiosity. Riddle was clearly a second year, and since he was put into advanced classes, he might see Riddle more often. Not that he wanted to, it would just be nice to see a familiar face.

Allen totally didn’t want to be in the same classes as Riddle, he totally wasn’t going to be disappointed when Riddle ultimately had to go to a different class. Allen was NOT attached to this boy–however cute or pretty he might be.

Nanika, hovering beside Allen as she saw him follow Riddle like a small puppy in love, shook her head in disappointment. At least if Allen was going to fall in love with a boy from this school, it should’ve been someone who looked tall enough to pass the “you must be this tall to ride the roller coaster” sign at amusement parks.

She sighed, after years of Allen being deprived of affection by his family, it was no wonder his standards were so low that he’d so quickly become fond of a munchkin. She would have to keep an eye on the tiny brat.

She’d looked at Allen and the Riddle boy walking along side one another to their next class, which, much to Allen’s blatant joy, was together.

Nanika once again closely inspected Riddle…….and she sighed again.

You have such terrible taste in boys Ally

Notes:

Oki so Riddle may be kind of OOC but like.....IM NOT GOOD WITH CHARACTER INTERACTIONS

Riddle: *gives Allen his number*
Allen: *happy unloved as a child noises*
Riddle: this is js for the assignment

Chapter 7: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟳🔪🩸

Summary:

Allen meets new people, gets a new nickname, and is once again judged by Nanika.....tiktok is a bad influence on people, especially Allen, maybe this was why he wasn't allowed to use it much at the Zoldyck mannor

Chapter Text

Classes had gone by quick, almost too fast for Allen to process it all. But he was nothing if not quick to pick up on things or adjust to new situations. He was a Zoldyck after all. The name Zoldyck felt so unfamiliar on his tongue.

Like it was foreign. Like he hadn’t spent 16 years growing up under the watchful eyes of the famed assassin family, and brutally trained on Kukurroo Mountain.

But now was not the time for that.

It was lunch, and Allen had no idea what he was going to do.

He looked at the sight before him. Tons of people collected in a cafeteria, loudly talking and yelling, while either normally eating their food, or barbarically devouring it.

To someone who had grown up sheltered by his family, and taught the utmost importance of manners and delicacy in every movement he made by his mother, a lunch room filled with messy teenagers was quite the shock to him.

Hormonal teenage boys, ugh, disgusting

Nanika had snuck up on him from the back. Allen sighed while shaking his head, You do realise I’m a teenage boy right? Over the years, she had grown a completely different personality from his, and this personality had proven to be quite judgemental……of everything .

Yeah, but you’re different, I actually like you

Taking it as a compliment, Allen moved onto buying himself lunch. He stood in a long line of people, who were all groaning for their food, like starved animals awaiting their last meals before their impending death.

It was finally his time to pick out his food, and he made sure not to waste any time.

Allen looked around at the options in front of him. His stomach growled at the sight of all the delicious food, food that he never knew existed laid before him, looking so appetising that you would’ve thought he’d never eaten in his whole life.

But as soon as he reached for a sandwich, his mother’s words echoed in his mind.

‘You musn’t eat too much food darling, or you’ll end up ugly and fat, you don’t want that do you?’

He could vividly remember her long, bright purple nails digging into his skin when he tried to eat an extra sweet, but they had released when his hands had moved towards some fruit instead.

Imaginary scratch marks appeared on his hands, the burning sensation of painted nails piercing his flesh. Reminding him not to eat too much, reminding him to watch himself. He couldn’t become fat and ugly. No one likes an ugly child, no one wants an ugly child.

“Hey! Will you hurry up,” a voice broke Allen out of his daze from behind him, “some of us want to actually eat today!” The boy’s complaining voice paired with his annoyed face cleared any hesitation Allen had on deciding what to eat.

Sandwiches had too many calories. He needed to watch himself, even if mother wasn’t here. He didn’t want to be an ugly child. No one liked an ugly child, as mother had said before, only the pretty flowers in a garden get picked to be someone’s favorite. He couldn’t be anyone’s favorite if he was ugly and fat.

Allen’s hand switched directions from the sandwich to a plate and he plated it with some salad, and grabbed an orange, and some water.

Ally are you okay?

Yeah, I'm fine

Both him and Nanika knew he wasn't, but neither further commented on the situation

He quickly paid for his lunch, with the gold that he converted to madols in Sam’s shop. The Sam person was very surprised when he brought gold with them, but who cares.

As soon as Allen walked out of the lunch line to the seating area, he quickly regretted his decision of not taking longer to pick his food. Where was he going to sit?

“Ah, Zilck-san,” the familiar voice of a certain boy called out to him. Allen turned around, only to be met with vivid gray eyes. Riddle had cleared his throat, “Do you wish to sit with me?” he asked, awkwardly referring to an empty seat next to him.

Allen nodded, taking the invitation and sitting down next to Riddle. It was then that the murmurs started, people whispering around the duo.

Of course you're going to sit with the red boy, what did I expect

"Look at that, someone’s sitting with Rosehearts”

   “And it’s voluntarily too”

   “His hair looks so pretty….”

   “Dude.”

   “What? It is!”

   “I knew you were gay”

   “I’m NOT!”

“Just come out of the closet, I support you!”

   “Really bro?”

   “Yes bro”

An annoyed expression adorned Riddle’s face, it was as if the people around him thought he had gone deaf. He could still hear them you know?!

“Oh? Could it be that Riddle Rosehearts is sitting with a first year Ignihyde student?” said a boy with glasses. His hair was white, tinted blue, and swept to a side in odd, yet suitable manner. He had a smile plastered across his face.

The boy with glasses sat down beside Riddle, placing his lunch tray on the table.

“Kingyo-chan! You have a new guppy friend, that’s so cute,” a teal haired boy exclaimed, hurrily sitting next to the glasses boy, not waiting for an invitation to the table.

“I must share Floyd’s curiosity,” added another student, he looked akin to the teal haired boy—Floyd—and he sat next to Allen, eyeing him closely.

Riddle however, was furious. His face tinted red a little. To Allen, it was kind of cute.

There you go again, terrible tastes

Ok, I get it Nanika

“And who said you lot could sit here?!” Riddle semi-shouted, “As I recall, you three have a table you usually eat lunch at.” Riddle wasn’t happy with this situation. He was extremely unhappy that the Octavinelle trio came and sat with him and his friend. Riddle’s brain paused. Since when had he gone and considered the headband boy his friend?

“Um, who are all of you,” Allen asked, breaking the awkward tension between Riddle and the three unknown individuals.

The glasses boy chuckled, “Oh how rude of me to not introduce myself,” he cleared his throat and continued, “my name is Azul Ashengrotto, housewarden of Octavinelle.”

“I am Jade Leech, this here—” Jade pointed to his brother who was sitting next to Azul, “—is my brother, Floyd. I do hope you’ll excuse our intrusion to your table, we were quite intrigued by Riddle’s new friend.”

“I see……my name is Allen Zilck, it is nice to meet all of you.” He introduced himself in a polite manner, just like his mother had taught him. Though Allen could not refrain himself from speaking quietly. He may be an assassin, but he was still shy around new people. And he hated eye contact with strangers, it was just so awkward.

“Eh, you’re the new kid whose been hogging all of Kingyo-chan’s attention,” Floyd sneered, his eyes judged the Ignihyde student. Kingyo-chan had been ignoring him all day, and it was to hang out with this weak looking kid?

Jade chuckled, it seemed Floyd had found himself a new plaything to tormen— talk to.

Floyd tugged on Allen’s hair a little, which was in a long braid. “Your hair is so long Haze-chan ,” he exclaimed, but the glint in his eyes told Allen his words were anything but admiration, “maybe it would be better if I chopped it off!”

Ain’t no way this fucker wants to touch your hair,

Nanika calm down, it was just a joke

Move aside Ally, I’m about to skin this leech

“Floyd Leech! Take your hands off of him!” Riddle demanded, “Cease your actions this instant!”

“My my, it seems Floyd has taken a liking to your new friend,” Azul’s words laced with mockery, behind his smiling face was a whole other persona. “Though we should leave now, Jade, Floyd, our next class begins soon.”

“Aw, already? I was just playing with Haze-chan,” Floyd whined, Jade grinned as the three Octavinelled students left the table. Riddle sighed in frustration, shaking his head. It was the start of the new year and those three were already causing problems for him. Allen however, was confused, he clearly said his name was Allen Zilck, where did the nickname Haze-chan come from?

Riddle looked at his watch, his eyes widened. It had already been 13 minutes since they’d finished their food. Anymore and he’d be in violation of the rules. And that was not allowed.

“I must go now, according to the Queen of Hearts rule #271: one must leave the table within 15 minutes of finishing their lunch. You should get along too.”

With that, Riddle got up and left in a hurry, leaving behind a confused Allen.

Allen shook his head, this day was all sorts of weird. Especially those three Octavinelle students. Were all people from other dorms this…….. unique of character?

Why do you always interact with the ugliest people? Both in character and looks….

Nanika shook her head in disappointment. She did this more often ever since the duo had arrived at this school

They aren’t ugly Nanika…..well the Octavinelle students might have weird personalities, but they’re quite pretty. Allen spoke to her in his mind, those three were appealing in looks, honestly, most of the students he’d seen at this school were. It was like it was a requirement to attend NRC at this point. Allen had usually been stuck inside his house when he wasn’t on missions or at heavens arena, so he’d developed a sense of appreciation for beauty (by that he means he occasionally simps on pretty people)

Again, terrible taste in men. The fact that you like men at all makes the options terrible, but you just had to go and pick the worsts of the worst

That’s not very demure of you, not very mindfu—

Ok no more Tiktok for you

Notes:

Jade and Floyd are legit some of the hardest characters to write in character. Am actually gonna cry. But the nickname Haze-chan (pronounced ha-zay) comes from the sea animal, Neon Goby, but Google Translate said it was Neon Haze in japanese. Didn't feel like typing out Neon Haze-chan, so js shortened it.

Ik shrimp have a symbiote with moray eels, but I feel like since Allen is decently tall, shrimp doesn't fit him. So I went with Neon Goby, becuz I liked their relationship with moray eels. (wont explain further because that's a spoiler)

Allen: *talks to shady people*
Nanika: wHy???
Allen: *shrugs* they look pretty
Nanika: *shakes her head in disapointment*

Chapter Text

Days as a student at Night Raven seem to fly by, as days turn into a week. And Allen was starting to forget he had to go home. But that wasn’t a problem, we don’t want him to go home anyways! It wouldn’t be good for the story—I mean his happiness.

As days went by, Allen had gotten closer to Riddle and the red head was starting to finally treat the boy as a companion, rather than an unfortunate classmate.

But as days went by, the project deadline for the Rune project Allen and Riddle were working on, also came closer.

“So you completed the slideshow?” Riddle questioned, in truth, he himself created a slideshow just in case Allen had failed to deliver. It has happened before with some of his previous lab partners Floyd

Allen nodded in response, making Riddle let out a small sigh of relief. Riddle thanked the seven he finally had a responsible lab partner.

I expect the slideshow is up to proper standards, Riddle thought as he and his parter prepared to present in front of the class. The students who were presenting before them had just finished and it was now their turn to speak to the class. Riddle looked at his materials, he acquired a test subject to perform their demonstration on, and a sheet of paper with the pronunciation of the spell.

Though he wouldn’t need to use the sheet of paper as he’d already memorized the pronunciation, he looked over to his partner who didn’t exhibit any signs of emotions, Allen most likely would.

Even if he is slightly more competent than other student, Riddle thought as he and Allen walked up to the front of the class, he is an Ignihyde student after all, and his hair is so shabby that his bangs cover his eyes.

If his mother were here then she would’ve reprimanded the boy. Perhaps Riddle himself should do so later.

“Ahem,” Riddle cleared his throat, and signalled to Allen to put the slideshow up on the board. He referred to the slideshow as he spoke, “As you may know, ancient runes were ways that mages back in the day harnessed their power. As society changed, mages have developed magic stones, the ones we use in our magic pens, to harness our magic.”

“Ancient runes however, can still be used by mages today,” Riddle continued as he picked up the test subject he would be performing his experiment on, which was a small red egg. The egg reminded Allen of Riddle himself, though he would never say it out loud.

This dude has been yapping for like, ever

This is just has a presentation goes Nanika, Allen internally sighed as he telepathically replied to her. Sometimes her comments would be quite unfiltered.

He wondered where she learned such manners of language from? Literally every single word that comes out of Killua’s mouth

“I will demonstrate this by using a rune I have created, to speed of the hatching process of a Vermillion Finch.”

Riddle held the red egg out for the class to see and picked up his magic pen and pointed it at the egg.

“нσяℓσgιυм ιη мє∂ιυм тяαнєє, ” Riddle chanted, the egg floating up out of his hands and gold weaves of thread forming like a barrier around it, “ єт нσ¢ ƒℓσяєяє .”

Gasps from the students in the audience could be heard as the gold threads that surrounded the egg burst and little cracks ate away at the shell. The egg hatched, giving way to a small, yet magnificent Vermillion Finch with striking red feathers and rich gold eyes.

Wow. So he hatched a bird, so can every other momma bird out there. Not that big of a deal

Allen sweatdropped. He knew Nanika had a certain dislike for the students at this school, but did that dislike really need to be extended to Riddle? He was his first friend after all. And she was really dragging his demonstration to hell and back.

“Marvelous presentation Rosehearts,” Professor Crewel clapped his hands together, signalling approval, “the other mutts in class could learn a thing or two from a pup like you.”

His attention then turned towards Allen, “And I trust that your partner here has an equally compelling demonstration?”

As if scruitinizing him, Crewel’s eyes narrowed at the long-haired individual. Perhaps finally noticing the boy existed for the first time.

What this guy looking at? Weird dog kink teacher

Allen was currently ignoring Nanika’s comments right now, it was time for him to demonstrate his rune.

“.....My er— rune is just like Rosehearts-senpai’s..,” Allen said, rather awkwardly, “I’ll be hatching this egg.”

No two runes could be exactly the same, that was the way runes worked since the dawn of time in Twisted Wonderland. It was precisely so, that no mage could steal or copy another mage’s rune without permission from them.

Crewel’s eyes signalled the boy to go on. Though something in them made it seem like he didn’t expect much from the long-haired boy.

Don’t get Allen wrong, he isn’t some prodigy who just so happens to have learned everything about magic that Rosehearts-senpai might’ve known.

But he did know how to make the best out of situations. If there’s anything that being an assassin for so long had taught him, it was how to improvise and deceive.

So now he was going to deceive his class into thinking he has magic, even though he is 100% sure he doesn’t. He isn’t from this world after all, how could he possibly have any?

Allen brought his hands up to the egg, a white aura surrounding him as he used Ren and then focused his aura in his hands. The nen started to envelop the egg, as some of his aura swirled around him and got sucked into the egg.

A little gust of wind blew into the classroom, and his hair started to swish around a little. Blu-ish white threads peaked out from Allen’s hands and towards the egg, surrounding them. Allen’s blue eyes started to glow a little, it was a reaction from using his nen in an unfamiliar setting, or so he thought. Though no one in the class could notice them glowing through his uncut bangs, which conveniently hid his eyes.

The egg started the crack and hatch slowly.

….pfft—

Allen looked up, did he do something wrong? Did he not pass? It would be terrible to start off his school year without passing his first assignment. The class’ reactions didn’t help his confusion.

“Oh my god.”

“Oh hell no, I’m not dealing with another OP student”

“Is that a fucking dragon?!”

“This is so not happening right now.”

Allen did not understand the words that were coming out of people’s mouths. He did something and it worked. The egg hatched just like Rosehearts-senpai’s did. Why was their reaction different to his spell?

What the poor boy hadn’t noticed was that maybe it was because while Riddle had hatched a beautiful bird, it was a normal bird. And Allen…..well, what he hatched was anything but normal.

Small white wings with light blue undertones poked out of the egg, it’s two chubby feet burst through the egg, and soon, the entire body was out of the egg.

Its eyes were a bright blue, like that of a blue moon.

The little beast flew on top of Allen’s shoulder’s, its long tail wrapped around his arm.

“I–” Professor Crewel seemed to be at a loss for words.

“It seems that you pup,” Crewel said as he massaged his temples, already feeling a headache coming on, “have somehow hatched a wyvern.”

This is hilarious, you hatched a wyvern like it was nothing! So much for flying under the radar

“Oh.”

Oh ,” a fae student mocked, “Is this kid for real? What kind of reaction is that!”

Riddle’s eyes widened in bewilderment, was the spell supposed to do that ?! He turned towards the long-haired boy, who was petting the wyvern like it was a cat, perhaps this kid had more to him than Riddle had first thought.

The dark blue dragon looked at the class and flew off of Allen’s shoulders and onto the table in front of the class.

The class held their breaths, what was the wyvern going to do?

The wyvern opened its mouth.

The class, and Crewel, waited in anticipation.

“Rawr.”

“....”

“....”

“THAT’S IT?!”

Chapter 10: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟵🌹🌹

Summary:

Allen’s new wyvern gives him some problems he didn’t expect to get, but he ends up with an invitation from his favorite upperclassman(the only upperclassman he knows) and meets a new student

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

If you asked Allen Zilck if his plan to be a normal student was going well, he mightve replied that it was going perfectly if you’d asked him a day earlier. His current response….would be no.

Somehow, he’d hatched a wyvern, a close relative of dragon fae, who were thought to be on the brink of extinction. And what’s worse, is that he’s an Ignihyde student. You would expect a Diasomnia student to be the hatcher, but instead, it was an Ignihyde student. Who’s dormitory is the genuine opposite of Diasomnia’s.

See, Allen hadn’t planned to make a spectacle of himself. He just….did. And though Nanika had laughed at him, she was a little worried about the attention on her beloved human now.

If any of them try anything funny, I’ll chop their dic–

‘Ok! Think we’re good Nanika!’

He didn’t know if it was the fact that Nanika was more free now or if she was always like this, but she was getting more violent these days.

“Human!” a voice yelled out, Allen turned around to face an unfamiliar student. His eyes trailed down to his armband, and he sighed. Another Diasomnia student? This was getting a little tiring.

“How many times do I have to tell you guys,” Allen rubbed his head, which was beginning to throb from a headache, “I’m not going to give Diasomnia my wyvern.” As he was saying that, the wyvern crawled out from—well, who knows where—and slithered its way onto his shoulder. It squinted its eyes at the green haired Diasomnia student who was bothering his human.

“Waka-sama wishes to see the wyvern! So you must give it to him Human!” the green haired boy said, or rather yelled. Allen winced at the loudness, he had rather sensitive ears, ones he honed to hear even another’s heartbeat. All apart of his training. It was currently the reason for his headache. “ Chara isn’t an object to be given, if your Waka-sama wants to see her then he can come to me himself.” Allen glared at the Diasomnia student, huffed, and then walked away. The Diasomnia student looked insulted, and offended. He was about to say something, but one of his dorm members silently dragged him off. Whoever that was, Allen internally thanked him.

How could he speak to you like that! You’re THE Allen Zoldyck, that brat

‘Nanika I handled it, it’s fine’

Gonna slap him if I see him again

Allen sighed. He’s been doing that a lot since he got to this world. The wyvern, Chara, rubbed her nose against Allen’s face, sensing his bad mood. Allen chuckled as he scratched behind Chara’s horns, she leaned into his touch. Despite only having her for two days, Allen loved her. Nanika on the other hand…..wasn’t as taken with her as he was.

She’s trying to steal you away from me!

Unknown to Allen, Chara sneaked a look at Nanika and stuck out her tongue.

See! Ally look!

Allen looked at Chara, she just simply smiled back at him and wagged her tail. Allen shrugged and continued walking to his next class. Nanika glared at the wyvern in response.

“Honestly, I just hope I don’t have to meet anymore Diasomnia students,” he shook his head and sighed, “when will they take the hint?”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Ignihyde boy!” a shout perforated through the halls, Allen turned at that. He turned around to see if there were any other Ignihyde students the—Diasomnia if he wasn’t mistaken—boy was screaming to. Unfortunately, he wasn’t met with any blue armbands.

“Do you need something?” Allen asked, he recognized the upperclassman from one of his advanced classes. “You’re the kid with the wyvern right? It’s probably a pain to deal with it, so just give it here and I’ll take it off your hands.” Allen paused, blinked, opened his mouth to say something, closed his mouth, and then blinked again. An awkward moment of silence claimed the air between the Ignihyde and Diasomnia students.

“Excuse me?” Allen questioned, wondering if he heard right, “You want me to give you my wyvern?” He glared at the boy and walked towards him, “I don’t intend to part with her, so I suppose this concludes our meeting, nice speaking with you.” Allen turned on his heel and left the other boy, stunned, and stomped onto his classes.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Chara appeared, out of nowhere, and slithered her way onto Allen’s arm. Her and Nanika were having a heated staring competition, though no one else in the hallway could see Nanika, so everyone just saw an albino wyvern glaring at nothing without blinking. No one batted an eye, they didn’t want to piss of a wyvern, and honestly none of the Night Raven College students could really care about it either. Allen chuckled at the antics of his wyvern and Nanika, he honestly thought the two got along well.

“So that’s the wyvern people were on about huh?” a voice snarkily remarked, Allen stopped laughing and faced the owner of the voice. “Her name is Chara, ” he said, the number of people who referred to her as an object infuriated him. “Yeah yeah, just hand her over so I can take her back to Diasomnia, our dorm leader wanted to see her and Zigvolt won’t get off everyone’s cases about bringing it back,” the raven haired Diasomnia student rolled his eyes. An exhausted sigh escaped Allen’s lips, how many people does he have to deal with from the same dorm.

“I’m not handing her over.”

“Hah? You tryna start a fight with me, Ignihyde .” It was as if the Diasomnia student was mocking him for being in Ignihyde.

Crowds of students flocked over to see the situation between the two students. Though the situation was soon de-escalated when Professor Trein came over.

“Students are not allowed to fight in school grounds, do I need to remind you of that?” Those words from Trein were all it took for the Diasomnia student to leave, he did glare and spit at Allen’s feet, but he did leave.

So can I kill him or no?

Nanika no.

Urgh, you’re literally no fun. And HE was making fun of YOU

Still no, you can’t try and kill every student who makes fun of me

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Yeah that pretty much sums up what’s been happening.” Allen sighed.

It’s safe to say, Allen has been bothered by Diasomnia students basically everyday. He doesn’t even know why, it’s not like any other dorm’s students are coming up to him. It’s just Diasomnia. So Allen did what any other person in peril would do. He asked his smartest friend. Riddle Rosehearts. He just so happened to be his only friend, but we don’t have to bring that up.

“Rosehearts-senpai, why is this happening to me?” Allen groaned with his hands on his head, trying to ease an upcoming headache. The two were in alchemy and had finished their potion earlier than the rest of their class. Crewel gave them an A, as Allen may have knocked over a few things, and Allen was happy with it, but Riddle seemed a little disappointed it wasn’t an A+. He didn’t linger on it though.

“You seem to be…..slow, aren’t you?” Riddle asked, to which Allen looked unamused. “Diasomnia and Ignihyde don’t have the best relationship. Their values completely conflict one another. Diasomnia students are rather haughty and excell in all fields of magic, though most of them aren’t the best with technology. Contrary to Ignihyde’s students, who always seem to be inventing a new invention, and like to keep to themselves and not speak to anyone,” Riddle paused, then sent a glare to an approaching Diasomnia student who was most likely going to bother Allen in the same way the others have. The student sneered at the two, unbeknownst to Allen, but left.

“And wyverns, which are closely related to dragons, are of a fae descent. So for an Ignihyde student of all people, who are nothing like Diasomnia students, to have been able to hatch one, is a complete blow to their pride.” He continued.

Allen nodded, partly understanding where Riddle was coming from.

So they’re all just prideful idiots who’s fragile ego couldn’t stand you being better than them? It totally fits their character

“So you’re saying that they want to take Chara to Diasomnia so they don’t have to deal with the reminder than an Ignihyde kid hatched her?” Allen said, Riddle nodded in response.

“Oi!” A voice from behind the two called out, “Did you just figure that out? You like special or something?” It was a Diasomnia student, though he didn’t seem bothered to demand Allen give him Chara.

Ally let me at him—

No.

Allen frowned, was he insulting him, by calling him special? Wasn’t that a complement? He really needed to understand slang these days. He’s starting to wonder if someone created a whole new language and everyone is just slowly shifting into the new one, and nobody bothered to tell him. Allen should really get a phone.

“Pardon? I don’t think so?” he replied in confusion, tilting his head to the side. The Diasomnia student in question just looked….apalled? Did Allen do something wrong? He looked to Riddle, who was partially fuming because someone interrupted his conversation, but also sighing at Allen’s naivety.

“You gotta be kidding me, this kid like an endangered species or something? Whatever, none of my business. Your not gonna survive long here kid.”

The Diasomnia student got up, yawned, and then left. He was out the door before Allen could even ask for his name. And what did he mean by that last sentence? He would do perfectly fine, as if being in some school with emotionally stunted boys would prove to be a challenge to him.

You should you know, be a little more aggressive, make them fear you

I can hear your maniachal cackling in my mind, if you had it your way then you would have killed the lot of these students.

If only I did have it my way. It’d be so much more fun than just being complacent, and why don’t you ever use your assassin techniques? You suffered for a reason ya know

I’m trying to avoid suspicion, and if Ignihyde students are as avergent to making a spectacle of themselves as I’ve seen, then it won’t be good for me to cause problems for my dorm. And those techniques shouldn’t be used for trivial things Nanika.

You’re so boring

The bell rang, pulling Allen out of his conversation with Nanika, and everyone rushed to get out of the classroom and to lunch. Riddle packed up his stuff and turned to Allen.

“Heartslabyul is holding an Unbirthday party, it’s sort of a celebration. I would like to formally invite you as my guest, the party is in two days.” Riddle cleared his throat before extending his invitation to the taller male. He took out a small booklet, it was about a couple pages long, and handed it to Allen. “These are the rules that must be followed during the party, and since you are a guest, you must dress accordingly to the dress code. It is listed in the book, do follow them, or I’ll have to take your head.” Riddle narrowed his eyes at Allen, who quickly nodded in compliance.

“I’ll make sure to come, and read the rules.” Allen was surprised at the new development in his and his senpai’s relationship, but was glad nonetheless. He really needed to make sure he didn’t mess anything up.

Ugh, this guy has a separate rule book for a party? It’s like he’s got a stick up his ass

Nanika! Don’t be so rude to Rosehearts-senpai

Why do you always attract weird humans?

The bell rung, and everyone sprang out of their seats to get to lunch. Riddle mumbled something about improper behavior and manners at the sight of the students, but stood up and left the classroom before saying goodbye to Allen.

Allen grabbed his stuff and left the classroom as well, Nanika trailing behind him. It seems she wanted to appear as an invisible ghost this time. Usually she was just a voice in his head, but sometimes she liked to appear physically.

“Now, I should really look over this rule book—” Allen stopped mid-sentence and he stepped backwards a little before turning and catching a flying……animal? He looked at the creature that he had caught in his hand, his grip on the creature’s body was tight, but loosened once he saw it was a living being.

“Myah! Let go of me!” A cat of sorts squirmed in Allen’s hands, it had blue fire coming out of its ears and similar looking blue eyes. “I’m the Great Grim! Now let me go you measly human!” The cat’s shouts didn’t go unnoticed by Nanika and Chara.

Ally let me at him. This fun-sized insignificant weasel-cat doesn’t know when to shut his mouth!

Calm yourself, it’s probably a student’s familiar that ran away

“Grim!” A voice yelled, Allen turned to see the owner of the audacious cat. The boy in question, had no arm band, yet wore the Night Raven College uniform. His vest was a dull grey, one that didn’t belong to any dorm.

“I’m so sorry for him, I’m still trying to teach him manners,” the of average height boy bowed, Allen raised an eye at that. After meeting the schools…. interesting students, it was rare for him to meet one with manners. The boy held a hand out to Allen with a sheepish smile on his face, “I’m Yuu Sasaki!”

Allen shook the boy’s, Yuu’s, hand hesitantly, and nodded, “Allen Zilck.”

Notes:

Tried updating another chapter after the shorter update on the previous one, BUT YUU IS FINALLY INTRODUCED????!!! I really love Yuuya Kuroki from the novel and Enma Yuuken from the manga, so I wanted to try making a Yuu with their combined personalities. It’s probably going to work out terribly 😃😃 but who cares
❤️❤️❤️
** there will be graphic descriptions because allen is an assassin man, he’s killed people and he’s a kid so he’s traumatized. If that bothers you then please DO NOT READ!! Don’t come at me in the comments**

Chapter Text

“You’re an Ignihyde student?” Yuu asks, pointing at Allen’s armband. Allen nods, and then opens his mouth to ask what dorm the shorter boy was from. “Ramshackle,” Yuu says, feeling Allen’s eyes on him, “though it isn’t really a dorm, the mirror couldn’t sort me.”

“So you were…the magicless student from orientation? I didn’t pay much attention to it, the fire kind of made me loose focus.” Allen deadpanned once he realised Grim was probably the reason for the fire.

“Henchman quit making friends! I wanna go eat food!” Speaking of Grim, the cat was now making a scene in Yuu’s hands. Allen felt bad for the boy, at least his familiar was better than Grim. Chara actually had manners. Yuu sighed, “Yeah yeah, we’re going,” he looked up at Allen and motioned for him to follow, “You want to eat lunch together?”

This one seems okay, you have my permission

Did I ever really need your permission??

Yes.

“Sure.” Allen walked by the shorter boy to lunch, and as soon as he stepped into the cafeteria, he wanted to go back to the empty hallway. It wasn’t his first day anymore, but god was it noisy in here.

“Finally! Food here I come,” Grim shot out of Yuu’s grasp and darted towards the line of people, skipping over students who sent a nasty look towards Yuu and the energetic creature.

The boy I like, the little thing? I don’t.

Hating on the animals now too? Is there anything you don’t judge

You’ve known me since forever, do you really need to ask that question?

Allen caught up to the line and simply grabbed an apple and a protein bar. The ghosts sent him a few weird looks as if wondering why he’d grabbed so little food, but didn’t question it nonetheless. By the time Allen had found Yuu and Grim, they were in an altercation with some Heartslabyul upperclassmen.

“You broke the egg in my carbonara!” The older Heartslabyul student snarled, his friend taunted Yuu and Grim, “Man, that’s the best part too. You better compensate us huh?” He eyed Yuu’s chicken sandwich, “How ‘bout handing over your sandwich and we’ll let this go?”

“Hah? You ain’t getting nothing! Get your grubby paws away from my food,” Grim told the boys, despite Yuu’s protests to make the cat stop talking. It was when the upperclassmen started getting their magic pens out that Allen proceeded to make a move. He couldn’t let his new friend–was he allowed to call Yuu that?–get hurt. “I believe Sasaki-san apoligized didn’t he? And using magic against other students isn’t allowed.” Allen stepped in, placing himself between the Heartslabyul students and Yuu. “You little twerp–” the boy abruptly stopped talking when Allen glared down at him, sending the tiniest bit of killing intent at him. “Were you saying something?” Allen questioned, taking a step towards the two, causing them to step back.

“N-no! We were just leaving! You’re lucky I don’t want my food to cool down,” he sputtered out as he and his friend scampered away. Allen turned around on his heel towards Yuu and Grim, “Are you two alright?” he asked, his personality doing a complete 180 and replaced with his blank look.

See how much easier it is when you just scare them off? Should’ve done that with those weird Diasomnia kids

I almost let my nen out Nanika, I need to be more careful

Boo, you’re a bore

“Woah! You just scared them off Zilck-senpai!” Yuu exclaimed with stars in his eyes as he led Allen to sit down at his table. “You seem more competent than my henchman…you can be my second henchman!” Grim proudly told Allen. Allen looked at him blankly, what a weird cat. “Whose this Sasaki-san?” A voice called out from beside Yuu. Allen turned around to see another Heartslabyul student with navy hair and a spade painted near his eye. Yuu cleared his throat, “Right! Zilck-senpai this is Deuce, and the other one is Ace, Ace and Deuce this is Allen Zilck.” Yuu introduced Allen to his friends. “Already replacing us huh Prefect?” The carrot haired male teased, despite Yuu’s protests.

“That was so cool how you scared off those upperclassmen, without any violence too!” Deuce exclaimed, his expression similar to Yuu’s earlier one. Ace rolled his eyes, talking about how he could’ve done the same thing, and Deuce told him off for being disrespectful.

“So you’re that Ignihyde kid that people are talking about, you really have a wyvern as a familiar?” Ace looked at Allen up and down, at first glance, Allen didn’t seem that special to him. The boy was taller than him sure, but he didn’t look like much. He had long bangs that covered a decent amount of his face, and you could barely see his eyes from peaking out underneath. Ace took notice of the scars that littered the boy’s fingers when he unwrapped his protein bar.

Allen nodded at Ace’s question, “Her name is Chara.” Upon mention of her name, the albino wyvern appeared on Allen’s shoulder, and wrapped her long tail around part of his arm. Her head tilted to the side as she blinked her jeweled eyes at the three students who were staring at her.

And the little wretch is out again. Hooray. Just when I was starting to enjoy myself too, hey Ally can I have a bite of your bar?

Sure, you can take a little piece, but don’t let the others see you

Allen inconspicously be held up his protein bar for Nanika to eat, while Ace and Deuce were stunned into silence. Allen raised an eyebrow at their reactions, was a wyvern really that uncommon in this world? Or perhaps it was because Chara was an albino, even back home, al things albino were considered rare. (Just like the signature white hair that was passed down to the Zoldyck successors)

“Damn, didn’t expect you to actually have one,” Ace sputtered out, while Deuce was gaping. Yuu was simply in awe of the creature, like he’d never seen any magical beast before, but Allen had heard rumors that the Yuu was magicless, so perhaps he hadn’t. “Woah senpai! We haven’t even started talking about familiars yet in class,” Deuce’s astonishment over Chara eventually died down, though he’d gained a new respect for his “upperclassman.”

Ace dug into his food, “I missed breakfast because Prefect over here made us walk all the way to Heartslabyul,” Ace sent a stink to Yuu, who just responded with one back, “this sandwich sure beats middle school lunch, that stuff was nasty.” Deuce nodded at that. Allen turned to Ace, his attention Ace’s face, which had sauce by his mouth. Grabbing a handkerchief, from nowhere, he leaned in to the ginger’s face, “Here, you have some ketchup by your mouth.” Allen dabbed at the ketchup, he paused a little when he met scarlet eyes that widened in shock, and then moved away.

….

Yuu whistled after Allen pulled away, “You just met him and you’re already making moves?” Deuce looked a little conflicted with his thoughts but quickly added onto Yuu’s teasing of the other Heartslabyul freshman, “Real smooth though senpai.” Deuce gave Allen a thumbs up. “Ugh, shut up Juice!” Ace’s cheeks were slightly dusted pink, and he turned to Allen, who had a very confused expression.

Oh my god, you’re like some weird beast tamer aren’t you?

What?

Why is my favorite human getting involved with stupid people??

“Did I do something wrong?” Allen tilted his head to the side, while Ace and Deuce stared at one another for a couple of seconds before breaking out into groans. A shadow fell behind Deuce’s body, “Well if it isn’t my favorite freshman!” Another Heartslabyul student stepped beside Deuce. “You’re the guy from this morning who tricked us into painting rose!” Ace glared at the student. “It’s not like I wanted to trick you, had to follow the dorm rules.” The student sat down next to Deuce. “You sure didn’t look forced into doing it though,” Deuce accused the boy, while stabbing at his pasta. “Ooh–so serious Deucey~ We’re not in the dorms right now so I’m just your friendly senior!” Deuce grimaced, “Please don’t call me that.”

“Cater stop scaring the freshman.” Another Heartslabyul student appeared, he had choppy green hair and glasses. “Boo, you’re no fun.” Cater pouted a little.

Now where have I heard that phrase from before?

Don’t compare me to that human boy!

Never said it was you I was comparing him to

I hate when you’re like this.

“Wait…who are you?” Deuce asked, while the green haired boy set his food on the table and sat down. “I’m Trey, a third year like Cater here from Heartslabyul.”  Trey turned to Yuu, who was busy admiring Chara on Allen’s shoulder. Chara seemed to enjoy Yuu’s praise. Yuu couldn’t see it, but Nanika was getting more and more irked by the second. “...Is that…a wyvern?” Trey’s smile wobbled a little. Deuce, who was just as awestruck when he saw Chara, nodding in understanding. “So you must be the Ignihyde student people are talking about,” Trey pointed to Yuu, “and you’re the student from that Ramshackle—” Trey cleared his throat, “unused dorm, right?”

“Cater’s been telling me all about you two, he’s been going on about how he wanted to meet the infamous Ignihyde student, but he also told me about this morning. Sorry Prefect, for dumping our dormmates on you.”

Hmm, this one seems….partially decent, but I feel he’s hiding something under that smile of his

As much as I’d like to question why you doubt every student here, I can feel something off about him

“Cater-senpai, can you tell us about the other dorms?” Deuce interrupted the conversation suddenly. Cater turned to him, his pout quickly replaced with a grin.

“Of course! Let’s start off with the other dorms.”

Notes:

I'm not entirely sure if I should do anything romantic with this fic, I was originally thinking no romance or like friendly flirting, but I'll probably decide after I finish the Heartslabyul arc. If I did go the romantic route, then I'd probably write the fic like Ouran Host Club did with Haruhi, or a relationship with the characters that the mc in Yuu and the Power of Magic has with TWST people. I'm open to opinions so give me your thoughts about what yall think about the whole romance or no romance thing.

I'm not done with Heartslabyul arc BUT I'M ALREADY THINKING OF IDEAS FOR OCTAVINELLE AND SAVANACLAW ARCS????? (those two are my FAVORITE ones)

Anyways, did yall see the update in the TWST game, like omg Riddle's long hair and then his dream being him looking cool af?? WONDERFUL YEAR TO BE A RIDDLE ROSEHEARTS FAN!!!!

Chapter 12: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟭🌹🌹

Summary:

Introductions of what the new dorms are occur and Allen meets a certain bat fae who’s first impression of him isn’t great. And no one wants to help Ace with the tart 🤷‍♀️

Chapter Text

“What’s the deal with out dorm? And that stupid rule of the Queen of Hearts ?” Ace’s mood soured at the thought of the dorm rules, it brought back memories of how he got his collar in the first place. “Well, Heartslabyul is based off of the Queen of Hearts, and to maintain order, she created these rules to deal with the citizens of Wonderland.” Trey explained to him, though his explanation didn’t make Ace like Heartslabyul any better. “And we wear black and red to represent her color scheme!” Cater jumped in. “The rules are a little much, but we adhere to them as part of our tradition.” Cater’s eyes darted to the side a little, Allen caught them but Cater just smiled back at him.

“Usually the Prefects of Heartslabyul decide how seriously to follow the rules, so Riddle’s just a little more strict than previous ones.” Trey defended him, but a slight feeling of guilt crept up his face. “Ugh, so we just have an annoying Housewarden?” Ace groaned. “Hey! Treat Housewarden Rosehearts with respect,” Deuce kicked Ace’s foot, to which Ace glared at him.

“Clover-senpai, what about the other dorms?” Allen cut in, all eyes turned to him. Cater grinned, “Well! All the dorms are based on the Great Seven, so other than Heartslabyul, we have Savanaclaw, which is founded on the persistence and indominability of the King of Beasts.”

“Then we have Octavinelle, that was founded on the benevolence of the Sea Witch,” Trey added, “And after that, there’s Scarabia, which is based on the careful planning of the Sorcerer of Sands. We also have Pomefiore, which is a dorm based on the tenacity of the Beautiful Queen. Then we have Diasomnia, which was founded on the nobility and elegance of the Thorn Fairy.” This time Cater turned to Allen, “And then we have your dorm! Ignihyde, which was grounded on the perseverance of the King of the Underworld!”

There’s so many dorms….

That is definitely a lot to remember

“There’s no way I’m gonna remember all of that, the names are so long!” Grim complained, Yuu nodded wearily. “Well, I guess you can kind of tell what dorm each person is in based on their.. character. ” Trey told the freshman. “Character?” Deuce asked, tilting his head to the side. Trey turned his head around and looked for something in the cafeteria. “Look at that guy for example,” Trey pointed to a tall, well-built guy with white hair and wolf ears, “based on his appearance, he’s probably a Savanaclaw student.”

“Most people Savanaclaw are athletes, their colors are yellow and black, really buff types of people,” Cater said.

So they’re all like muscle heads basically

Really? The first thing you say about them..

Yes. And?

“And then for the next dorm….”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Then we have Ignihyde, their arm bands are blue and black…..but I don’t see any except for Ally-chan here,” Cater looked around. Allen raised an eyebrow at the nickname, he didn’t hate it per say, it was just the first time someone had given him one (except for Nanika).

Hey, I’m the only one who’s allowed to call you Ally! Can I hex him?

No.

But—

No.

“But honestly it’s kinda expected, they’re all usually really reserved,” Cater sighed, “just think of them as the opposite of Heartslabyul.” Grim nodded his head, “So you mean they’re all gloomy.” Ace snickered at his comment. “Don’t be rude! They’re pretty good at magic and really techy too, and plus, there’s an Ignihyde student right here,” Trey referenced to Allen. “Myeh, forgot my second henchman was an Ignihyde student!”

Gonna fry this cat, the heck he means ‘henchman’

…..he’s so….CUTE!

Oh my god, now you have a cat obsession, just great

Allen scratched Grim’s ear a little and Grim leaned into it, purring. Suddenly Grim snapped out of it, “Oi! Quit that, I’m not a housecat!” Though Grim secretly enjoyed it. Yuu tucked this moment away in head to tease Grim with later in Ramshackle.

“Then the last one’s just…Diahblahblah dorm right?” Deuce asked. Ace smirked, “Stop acting so confident, you messed that up, it’s Diasomnia .”

“I just bit my tongue okay,” Deuce sputtered out, his face a little red from embarrassment. “Diasomnia is…” Cater looked around for their table, “over there! They wear green and black armbands.” Cater scratched his head a little, “I guess you could say they’re like campus celebs, their aura makes it hard for us plebeians to approach them.”

Plebeians? Does Twisted Wonderland have a concept of Ancient Rome?

It’s probably just a slang term or something

Does Twisted Wonderland even have other countries, like how we have different republics at home? Do they have a Dark Continent?

Ally….

I know, I just wanted to see if there was anyone else like you

I don’t need anyone else!

“Hey they have a kid over there!” Ace pointed out, at a shorter man with black hair that had pink streaks. “Well you can skip grades here, with the placement test you had to take, but that’s a 3rd-year, his name is—”

“Lilia. Lilia Vanrouge.”

Allen’s senses perked up and he sliced his hand through the air, sharpening his nails, and nearly decapitated the 3rd year, who was somehow floating upside down. His nails (claws basically) stopped just near the Diasomnia student’s neck, and drew the tiniest bit of blood. If Lilia was any other student, Allen probably would’ve sliced through his neck.

Lilia’s eyes widened, “Fufufu! Apologies for startling you, your hand moves quite swiftly, I almost hadn’t seen it.” Allen snapped out of his trance, and noticed what he was doing. He retracted his nails, and brought his hand down.

“Sorry about that,” Allen mumbled and slightly bowed his head. Lilia chuckled, “Impressive bloodlust little one,” he turned to the others, who were spooked, “such lovely reactions, I should pop by Heartslabyul students often. And were ‘thou interested in my dorm members? I may have a youthful appearance, however I am not a child.”

“Youthful he says,” Trey mumbled to the side, though Lilia probably heard him. “Prithee, you may approach us instead of watching from afar, Diasomnia will welcome you anytime!” Ace and Deuce looked back at two of the students from the Diasomnia table. Both looked slightly alarmed, the one with green hair stood up and was glaring at Allen, and the one with white hair looked shocked. Though the two dead stared at the freshman. “Yeah those two don’t seem that welcoming,” Yuu wearily said, he didn’t like the look from the two Diasomnia students who were staring at Allen.

“Fufu, I shall take my leave now from dropping in on your lunch,” Lilia’s head turned to Allen and narrowed his eyes, “you should come visit Diasomnia, our Housewarden has been wanting to meet you.” Though this time, Lilia did not smile at him, he in fact frowned.

The flip is this guy frowning at you for, weird lolita

Nanika could you feel it too?

Yeah, this man…

He may not have nen,

But his magical power is off the charts

….I could probably take him

That’s what you think of, really??

Lilia looked at Allen weirdly, and then teleported away. The green haired boy seemed to frantically fret over him, and the silver haired boy just went back to sleep.

“Their table is like, a hundred feet away, how did he hear us?!” Ace whispered. “Diasomnia is just….quirky like that,” Trey told them sheepishly, though he was a little on edge with Lilia having just been at their table. Trey looked at Cater and sent him a look. The two had gotten used to communicating with their eyes, a silent way to figure out how to deal with a certain red-haired Housewarden, who was quick to temper. Cater, who most definitely caught the way Lilia looked at the Ignihyde student, returned the look back. A silent, Keep an eye on the Ignihyde student , was sent between the two in mutual understanding.

“Diasomnia’s Housewarden is like, super powerful, apparently he’s among the top 5 best mages in the world! But he’s like, totes hard to catch.” Cater brought the conversation back. “Our Housewarden’s kinda dangerous too though.” Ace sneered at the mention of Riddle, it was evident that he didn’t like him. “He’s good at magic, he’s in a lot of my classes,” Allen nodded his head in agreement with Cater, it was obvious that Riddle was a force to be reckoned with. But even if he could be a little unreasonable, Riddle wasn’t all bad.

“You’re telling me? He collared me for just eating some stupid tart! Bet he’s the worst one, no doubt,” Ace huffed and crossed his arms, Allen noted that he looked like a child. A shadow loomed behind Ace’s figure, one that Allen recognized. Unknowing of who was behind him, Ace didn’t stop talking. “Honestly, why’d I get stuck with him?” Ace whined. Deuce, who noticed the person behind Ace, was quick to try and get Ace to stop talking. “Oi, what was that for Juice?” Ace scowled as he rubbed a sore arm that Deuce had hit. “Ace shut the hell up,” Yuu whispered, Grim just ate his sandwich and watched the chaos unfold. Ace, who didn’t understand what his friends were talking about, turned around to see what they were all looking at.

And here come the Queen. This Ace guy is screwed

It was at this moment, Ace knew he fucked up.

“Oh? I’m the worst am I?” Riddle’s face was positively furious, he gripped his lunch tighter and tighter by the second. “GAH! Housewarden!” Ace squirmed underneath the shorter boy’s glare. Yuu muttered something underneath his breath, probably cursing the Seven for giving him an Ace as a friend.

“Woah! Don’t you look super cute today Riddle~” Cater tried defusing the situation.

What a great deflection. Honestly, could he not think of anything else?

Slandering him now too, what did he do to you??

Breathe.

Wow.

“You keep up with that Cater and you’ll find yourself loosing your head,” Riddle gave Cater a look. “Alright alright, I get the vibe,” Cater put his hands up and sighed. “Hah?! You’re the guy who put that weird collar on me at the ceremony!” Grim accused the red head. Yuu slapped Grim’s mouth shut and had a pained smile on his face.

It seems really kinky, is that your type Ally?

I am NOT answering that question

“Calling someone’s unique magic ‘weird’ is hardly appropriate. Honestly, the headmaster is much too soft on troublemakers these days, anyone who breaks the rules should loose their head,” Riddle glared at Ace, Deuce, Yuu, and Grim. Allen looked at Riddle, and then back at his friends—and decided it would be a good time to speak up.

“I had a question–um, about your Unbirthday party dress code?” Allen awkwardly raised his hand. Riddle snapped his head towards him, and looked like he just noticed that Allen was at the table. He motioned for the boy to continue. Cater gave Allen a silent, ‘What the heck are you doing?’ look. “The rulebook you gave me,” Allen held the tiny book up, “says that guests invited by the Queen—who I’m assuming symbolizes you—have to be completely covered and must be dressed in Alice fabrics. I don’t exactly know what that means.” Trey’s eyes sharpened at the mention of Riddle inviting someone to an Unbirthday party. It was rare for Riddle to do that, and it was even rarer for the intended person to pass his ‘tests.’

The cafeteria room was quiet at that point. All intent on hearing their conversation. “Hmm, you must’ve payed close attention to the rules to pick that out, you have passed the test for now. And to address your concern, it means you are to wear Heartslabyul’s Alice uniform, it will be delivered to your dorm today.” Riddle smirked slightly, a bit proud that Allen had read through the lines.

“I must go now, but Trey, as Vice Housewarden, I trust you will ensure that no one breaks any rules?”

“Of course Riddle, you can count on me.”

Something in Riddle’s eyes softened at Trey’s remark, but only for a split second. “Hey Housewarden, I don’t suppose you could take the collar off?” Ace nervously asked.

Does this guy not know how to read the room?

“I was going to do that, but seeing as how you haven’t learned your lesson, I won’t. And be sure to eat quickly and leave, or else you’ll be breaking Rule #271: One must leave the table within 15 minutes of finished their lunch.” Riddle’s voice strictly cut through Ace’s question. “Yeesh, his looks don’t match his personality,” Ace mumbled. “You’re supposed to say ‘Yes Housewarden,’” Riddle glared at the two, it was seeming like that was the only expression he could pull. “YES HOUSEWARDEN!” Ace and Deuce yelled out. Riddle left the table, scurrying off while mumbling about sugar cubes.

The little twerp isn’t even that scary

“Dude how were you acting so chummy with Rosehearts?” Yuu nudged Allen’s elbow. Allen looked at Yuu weirdly. What did he mean by that? Allen spoke to him just like with anyone else. “What are you talking about?” Allen looked at the others confused.

“Ra!” Chara burst out, smacking her right wing in Ace’s face. “Ow! Watch your wyvern man!” Ace scowled at the albino creature. A small smile found its way onto Allen’s face, “I’ll keep that in mind,” he chuckled. Ace, was not amused. “You smug—” Yuu shoved Ace’s face into his soup. “Okay! So, now that that’s over. Ace, how ‘bout you ask Trey how to get your collar off.”

Ace slowly lifted his head up, which was dripping with soup, and wiped off some of the carrot pieces on his face. There were some in his hair, but they sort of blended in.

Guess the nickname ‘Carrot head’ will finally stick huh

I’m definitely going to start calling him that now

“Well the rules say that you must always return what you stole, so you’d have to bring Riddle a tart, and since you ate one for an Unbirthday party, you should probably bring Riddle a whole tart.” Trey ate his lunch as he watched Ace’s face drop at his words. “A whole tart?! Those are crazy expensive, I don’t have that kind of money man.” Ace groaned and muttered some things about being unlucky. “You know, Trey here is Heartslabyul’s resident baker, he made those tarts himself.” Cater proudly showed off Trey’s baking talents as if they were his own.

Hmm, he knows how to bake, he’s a little better than before, but I still don’t like his smile

I do enjoy baking

“I’m decent at baking, if you’d like help.” Allen raised his hand slightly to volunteer. “Really! You’re the best dude, I’m starting to actually like you now.” Ace’s eyes sparkled. Deuce sent him a stink eye, as did Nanika.

‘Starting to’ he says. Yeah I don’t like him. Blueberry is okay though

Is everyone just fruit to you?

What else do I refer to them as? People? That’s too….boring

“Well we’d need about three hundred chestnuts? It’s for an Unbirthday party after all.” Trey’s words lingered in the air for a while.

“..”

“Yeah man, you’re on your own.” Deuce shrugged. “Tough lucky buddy.” Yuu sighed in agreement with Deuce, Grim seemed to nod his head as well. “You traitors! Guess it’s just you and me Zilck-senpai.” Ace slung an arm over Allen’s shoulder.

What have I gotten myself into…

You walked into this one Ally, you’re on your own

“I might be reconsidering my offer for help…..”

“You too?!”

Chapter Text

“There’s a lot of chestnuts in the botanical gardens, so we should start there. Try to look for gloves and a basket too, so you don’t prick yourself.” Trey left the freshman with those words before going off to buy the other ingredients he needed and prepare things in the kitchen.

“Woah! There’s probably a ton of chestnuts in here, which means more tarts!” Grim’s eyes widened at the size of the gardens. “Grim stop wandering off.” Yuu hurried after the cat. “We should probably split up, Ace and I can go together, and then Yuu and Grim.” Deuce looked at Allen, “Senpai are you okay with going alone?”

You won’t really be alone Ally, you’ll be with me! And I’m better company than those idiots

You’re hate counter is already in the thousand's

Damn it’s not in the millions yet? Gotta work harder I guess

“Yes, I’ll be fine on my own,” Allen put off Deuce’s concerns. “Juice and I can go this way, Yuu can go the opposite, and Zilck-senpai, you go more towards the inner part of the gardens up ahead.” Ace sauntered in the direction he assigned to him and Deuce. “It’s Deuce!” The navy haired freshman hissed at Ace.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“This garden is very….. big .” Allen stopped walking to admire the flowers.

This is the perfect opportunity to say Thats What She Said

I just wanted one moment of peace

Allen spotted a rose bud, it’s thorns were short, but sharp. “I suppose it would be a good time to feed Chara, no one’s around.” Allen grabbed the rose, and cut his hand with the thorns. Blood oozed down his fingers as he held the rose branch in the other hand, leaving his bleeding one free.

“Chara, come out dear,” he called. The wyvern appeared and nuzzled into Allen’s neck, her perked up at the smell of blood. Chara’s blue eyes darted to Allen’s bleeding hand, her gaze locked onto it. The wyvern made its way down Allen’s arm, and looked up at Allen for confirmation. Allen nodded in agreement. Chara began feeding on his blood, her eyes started to turn a little pink, matching Allen’s.

Greedy little thing

Well she is hungry, she hasn’t eaten all day

Once Chara was done feeding, the wyvern flew up to Allen’s shoulder and wrapped her long tail around Allen’s neck, with her head resting against one side of Allen’s neck.

Sometimes I can’t tell if she’s more snakelike or dragonlike

Aren’t wyverns a mix of both?

Maybe that’s why she’s so slithery

As Allen was walking deeper into the gardens, he found a large group of chestnuts. He squatted down a little and reached his hand out to grab some. He held the one he picked out up to his eye, and after a little nod in approval, he started to grab more. He’d already spent some time in feeding Chara, if the others noticed he was gone too long, it might raise suspicion.

And Allen had a feeling that Trey and Cater were wary of him.

“How many did Trey say he needed again?” Allen muttered, for an assassin, his memory was very selective. Suddenly, Allen felt a presence behind him, his body turned backwards as his head snapped to see who it was. It was an unfamiliar presence, and he could tell the person was strong.

Allen came face to face with a tall boy who had piercing green eyes, which seemed to be glaring at him. The individual had brown hair and what looked like….. lion ears ? As he recalled, there were different types of species in this world.

“You,” the individual glowered, “the hell do you think you’re doing?” His voice was threatening, like he wanted to tear him apart. And this irked Allen, quite heavily in fact.

His aura, which he’d been keeping back using Zetsu, had flared against the air of magic that the boy before him smelled like. “I’m picking chestnuts.” The man before him snarled, “You think you can just waltz into my territory smelling like that.”

There was something in those green eyes of the man’s that Allen didn’t like. It was the way that Lilia had looked at him during lunch too. Like they were bothered by Allen’s mere presence, like Allen had made them uncomfortable. The look bordered on disgust. Allen hated that feeling. He hated it. Instead of seeing green eyes glaring at him, Allen’s vision blurred it into a familiar violet that mirrored half of his own eyes. To think even in another dimension, his mother’s piercing gaze would haunt him.

The brown haired man sniffed the air a little and visibly recoiled. “Do you live in a gravesite or something? Smelling like death and….roses.”

Kill him.

Nanika what? Why are you so on edge

Threataning you is not allowed. You are mine. My human. How dare he!

Calm down, you’re going to let out your bloodlust.

Allen didn’t know what to do. Even on missions when he got hurt, Nanika was never this protective. She was getting unstable, and though Allen was confident in his abilities, Nanika was from the Dark Continent. And there was no way he’d be able to tame her on his own, especially if she tried taking control of his body to kill this unfortunate student.

White wings sprouted from behind Allen’s head. A scaly white body wrapped around his neck, with the rest of the lengthy tail hanging freely behind him. That’s right , he almost forgot. Chara was still here. And if Nanika was about to go on a killing spree, then he had no idea what the little wyvern would do.

Spikes burst out from Chara’s long tail, which swished violently in the air. Chara’s lips pulled back as she bared her fangs out, daring the individual threatening her human to try and make a move.

The green eyed man’s fist cut through the air, nearly punching Allen in the face if Allen hadn’t dodged. Thank god for his reflexes. Allen glared at the man before him. He’d tried so hard. So, so, so hard. Not to hurt anyone. Not to use his nen. To keep his powers hidden, to keep himself hidden. For the first time in a long time, he didn’t need to kill anyone. But this man was testing his patience.

Allen’s right hand changed. His once manicured nails sharpened into claws, and the veins in his hand bulged. The method of manipulating his body was very useful when taking out someone’s heart. His father was very good at it, the guy could do it without spilling a drop of blood!

But before Allen could do anything, he was interrupted by another presence approaching.

“Leona! I’ve been looking for you everywhere man. Trein is going to have my ass if I don’t get you back to clas–”

A boy with hyena ears stopped at the sight of what was going on. He put his hans up nervously, “Okay now~ No need to start a fight..” The boy, Allen could tell, was clearly scared. And though Allen didn’t like the man before him, who’s name was Leona, Allen did understand when it was time to back off. Plus the hyena boy looked kind of adorable, like a kicked puppy. Perhaps Crewel’s form of speech was getting to him.

“Chara, stop.”

With a single command, Chara—albeit hesitantly, put her wings and spikes away. She slithered down to Allen’s hand, and slept in her defensive position. Leona and the hyena’s eyes widened at the sight.

“Tch, always ruining my fun Ruggie,” Leona scoffed, put his hands behind his head and walked towards the one he called Ruggie, who’s shoulders relaxed once Leona and Allen weren’t at each other’s throats. “Don’t let me catch you around my domain herbivore,” Leona called back to Allen, before disappearing into the gardens with an annoyed Ruggie scrambling to his side.

Well, that was some thing

..Nanika? Are you okay?

I’ll tell you later. There’s something off with that guy. He’s like Lilia Vanrouge, from lunch. I think they know something. And I don’t like it

Neither do I. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I can’t wait to go home.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Perfect! We have the amount of chestnuts we need to make the tart, so why don’t you guys work on peeling them. I’ll prep the cream.” Trey clapped his hands together, and started getting a mixer and a bowl out to make cream for the Marron Tart.

“Gah! We spent so long picking these things, now we gotta peel them?” Ace groaned as he reluctantly picked up a chestnut to peel. “Dude we’re literally making this because you got yourself collared.” Deuce deadpanned at Ace’s reluctance.

“The Great Grim shouldn’t be doing these peasant tasks! Henchman, you do it instead!” Grim ordered Yuu, while puffing out his chest. Yuu, who seemed to be done with Grim’s antics at this point, sighed and didn’t put up a fight. Yuu turned to look at Ace and Deuce, who seemed to be squabbling again, and sighed again. Not only did he have to look after Grim, he had to put up with his idiot friends, who were currently throwing chestnuts at one another like kindergarteners. Truly how did he end up in this situation?

“Hey have any of you seen Allen-senpai?” Yuu asked. Ace and Deuce stopped fighting and looked at Yuu. “Now that I think about it, I didn’t see him in the gardens either,” Deuce told the group. Ace snickered, “Yeah, cause you two went in opposite directions dumbass.”

“You little–”

And Ace and Deuce went back to fighting. Grim was trying to secretly eat the chestnuts. Trey was paying no mind to the troublesome freshman and seemed in his own world making whipped cream. Yuu groaned, how he wished Allen was with him, then at least there’d be some voice of reason. Where even was Allen?

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Nanika do you know where we are?

Um….no..

Allen looked around and only saw trees, bushes, and flowers. It was like he was walking in circles. “The others might get a little worried,” Allen started, but then thought about Ace and Deuce’s personalities, “actually they probably think I’m ditching them.”

Good. That’s what you should be doing, and how can you worry about them when we’re lost??

I can think about multiple things at once!

Really? Gee you had me fooled

I’m a literal assassin

Who has no sense of direction

Allen heard a little tinkling noise. He turned to see who it was, or what it was, he really didn’t want a repeat of what happened with Leona. The assassin had already revealed too much about him in that little moment.

Little things were flying around. With clear wings that had slight streaks of glittered colors, and dazzling hues of eyes that sparkled under the sun. They looked ethereal.

“...beautiful.” Allen’s mouth slipped into a form of awe, he’d never seen anything like this during his missions or at home. In a trance, he held out a finger to gently touch one. The little things, which he assumed were fairies, paused and looked up at him. They’re voices, which had sounded like bells before, slowly changed into something understandable.

“It’s the moon human!” The fairy with orange accents exclaimed. She floated up to him, and so did the others. “This one is nice, pretty eyes! Not like the other savages,” A purple fairy remarked, she and another fairy, a boy this time, floated up to Allen’s face and lifted his bangs to see his eyes. The fairies cooed.

“They’re pink and blue!”

“Like a jewel!”

“They sparkle!”

They’re getting too close for my liking, where’s the little snake when you need her

“You don’t think my eyes are weird?” Allen questioned. His mother always told him so. That his eyes were ghastly, that they looked demonic. That it was the mark of being inhuman, of not being a person. Of being a monster. That he was cursed. So why did the fairies, that were so pretty in their own rights, act like this?

The fairies giggled, “Weird? No, no, no! Pretty eyes!” The fairies grabbed Allen’s hand and led him forwards. Allen, who didn’t want to harm the little beings, went along with them. The scenery of greens slowly changed into something else.

I think, they’re leading us out of the gardens

Guess they’re useful for something

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Allen, led by the fairies, found the rest of the Heartslabyul students he was supposed to meet up with, as well as Yuu and Grim.

The fairies bid their farewells and left Allen on his own.

“You!” Ace’s angry voice could probably be heard from the botanical gardens. “Where did you go? You were supposed to be helping us!” Ace crossed his arms. Allen sheepishly scratched his head, “So I may have gotten lost….”

Ace stared at Allen. Allen blinked back. Ace blinked as well.

“Bro there was a path from here to the gardens, like a dirt road path…” Ace was baffled. And rightfully so. One of the downsides of being such a great assassin, was that Allen had no sense of direction. Like at all.

“....”

“So do you still want help?”

“We finished already!”

“O-oh..”

Notes:

Hmmm, for the next chapter, I was thinking of doing a Lilia/Leona pov. Js to see how diff characters think of our main character Allen here. Should I? Oh and I’m working on my drawing of Allen so it’ll come out soon. Maybe.

Chapter Text

“Okay! So the tarts are ready.” Trey set out two chestnut tarts on the table. Everyone crowded around them, Grim looked ready to pounce on the food, Yuu was barely restraining him. Cater walked through the door with his signature smile. “They look super aesthetic! Great work guys.”

“Why is it that you decided to come after we finished making it?” Ace eyed Cater suspiciously. Cater put his hands up to plead his innocence. Trey cut everyone a slice of the first tart and left the second one in the fridge to set.

“Trey do the thing!” Cater nudged Trey’s shoulder. “What thing?” Deuce asked, looking between  the two upperclassmen.

“What are your favorite foods?” Trey asked the freshman.

“Probably cherry pie and burgers.” Ace shrugged.

“Maybe the Carbonara from lunch?” Deuce wasn’t entirely sure.

“A lamb chop with Diablo sauce for me~” Cater grinned like he knew something Allen and the others didn’t.

“Chicken Alfredo,” Yuu said.

“Tuna, and carbonara—OH BUT ALSO THOSE CROISSANTS FROM THE CAFETERIA! And–” Yuu shut Grim’s mouth before he could say any more food.

Allen didn’t know if he had a favorite food. Assassins didn’t need good food, just things that weren’t poisoned and had enough nutrients to keep them alive. He wondered what Mother would say if Allen let something with high calories stumble out of his mouth as an answer.

Before he had time to think, Allen felt his body feel weird. His mind was pushed back, and his mouth moved without him telling it to.

“Tiramisu”. It was Allen’s voice, but not him who really responded.

Nanika was speaking.

Really Nanika?

You were taking too long to answer, so I answered for you. And I knew you’d probably say something stupid like a salad, instead of what you really want

Trey nodded his head and lifted his magic pen, “ Paint the Roses!~

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“He’s dangerous.” Allen left Heartslabyul with an invite to a ‘sleepover’ at Ramshackle from Yuu. Nanika followed him, nodding her head in agreement. That green haired boy, Trey, was more than he let on.

His unique magic is pretty powerful

He could probably overwrite the collars right?

Maybe

If he could do that…do you think he could overwrite…

..I don’t know. But don’t ask him

Obviously. He isn’t to be trusted

Allen sighed, things were getting too complicated to deal with. He wished he could just blast music and sleep all his problems away. Speaking of which, Allen needed to find the way back to Ignihyde…..without getting lost this time. Yuu had invited him to a sleepover (Allen had to ask Nanika what that was) at Ramshackle, but Allen needed to pick up some stuff from his dorm before he could go there.

Allen walked for a couple of minutes before stopping. He looked around, but couldn’t spot anything resembling the Hall of Mirrors.

“Nanika…we’re lost aren’t we?”

Yup.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Allen knocked on the door to Ramshackle, dust flew off of it when he did. Allen looked around at the dump and couldn’t help but worry for Yuu’s safety while living here. How was this place not in health violation of any kind of law?

Now I feel bad for Yuu. What kind of headmaster is that crow bastard?

Won’t the pipes be infected or something?

They probably are

The door opened with a slight creak. “Allen-senpai! Glad you could make it,” Yuu let Allen in with a smile. Allen entered the dorm, but before he could say anything, a pillow collided with his face.

“I’m so sorry senpai!” Deuce stumbled into the living room, his hair and clothes a mess. Allen didn’t need any explanation when Ace came after Deuce with a pillow in his hand. Yuu groaned and massaged his temples.

“You see what I have to deal with?” Yuu points to Ace and Deuce, who were trying to arm wrestle each other.

Poor Prefect, can’t imagine having to deal with Dumbass 1 and Dumbass 2

I’m glad I’m just stuck with you

Are you calling me stupid?

“Didn’t peg you for a cat person,” Yuu points to Allen’s clothes. Allen was wearing a pink night shirt with black shorts. The shirt had a big ‘N’ on it, with cat doodles surrounding it. “A friend made me buy it. Said the pink brought out my eyes,” Allen sarcastically remarked. Yuu snickered in response.

“There was guacamole out, but don’t expect there to be that much left. Grim probably ate everything.”

“Speaking of which, where is the little furball?”

Allen’s question was answered by a loud crash that was heard from the other room. Yuu cursed and ran towards the sound. When Allen found where Yuu and Grim were, he felt a headache coming on. Before him, was the sight of Yuu strangling Grim, who supposedly knocked over a gigantic glass vase, and Ace was snickering while recording, and Deuce was…..actually Allen didn’t know what Deuce was doing.

Free tickets to the zoo and circus I guess. You think they’ll do tricks if we pay them?

Honestly with how broke Yuu is, he might do a couple backflips for some madol

I encourage you to ask

I’m scared of what I’ll find out

“Let’s watch a movie!” Yuu finished killin– taking care of Grim, and dragged everyone to the living room. “Do you even get internet in this dump?” Ace looks around at the cobwebs. “The headmaster is kind of stingy for sticking you here.” Deuce nods his head.

“I can make some food if you want. Like snacks.” Allen offered. Ace grinned, “Thanks man!” Deuce stomped on his foot, “You can’t speak informally to an upperclassman!” Ace groaned, “Here he goes again with his whole Honors student act.” Allen pauses at that, upperclassman? They were all freshmen though?

“I’m a freshman. Like all of you?”

“What.” Deuce’s face blanks. Ace pauses too. Yuu looks between Ace and Deuce, and shrugs, “I don’t know why they’re so shocked. It was kind of obvious since Cater and Trey only heard about you.”

“You don’t get it since you’re not from here Yuu, but he has a wyvern familiar and he’s our age.” Deuce explains. “I don’t follow,” Yuu asks. “It’s really hard for mages to have familiars, since familiars don’t tend to like people. And wyverns are like super rare, they’re kind of like dragons. So it’s completely unheard of for a 16-year-old, newbie freshman to magic, to be able to have one.” Ace tells Yuu. “And somehow this airhead who can’t go anywhere without getting lost, is somehow a fricken prodigy,” Ace hisses.

“Oh. That’s why people looked at me weirdly when I summoned Chara.” Allen realised that was why he got so many looks. Since Allen didn’t use any magic, does that technically make him better than a lot of the mages in Twisted Wonderland? Well he’s not from here, so that probably breaks a few rules.

Yuu whistled, “Damn, that’s crazy man.” Ace glared at Yuu who just stuck his tongue out at Ace. “Honestly, the mirror shoulda’ put you in Diasomnia. Your familiar is a wyvern and you’re good at magic. How the hell did you get put in Ignihyde? Do you even know all the techy shit?” Ace questions Allen.

He’s lowkey right. Why did the mirror send us to Ignihyde?

It apparently wanted to protect us?

I'm glad we aren’t stuck with Vanrouge or that lion brat

Definitely

“Diasomnia wouldn’t have been a good fit for me. That dorm doesn’t exactly….. get along with me.” Allen told Ace. “Yeah I remember that Diasomnia guy from lunch looked at you funny,” Ace winced at the memory of Allen nearly decapitating the shorter Diasomnia 3rd year. “So…you said you’d make snacks?” Ace smirked. Allen rolled his eyes, “I’ll get started on those, any allergies?” The rest of the freshmen shook their heads.

“As if anything could keep the great Grim from eating food!” Grim exclaimed. “Grim, if you’re allergic then it’s not like you have a choice..” Yuu sweatdropped.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Okay, Yuu’s fridge didn’t have much to work with…” Allen nervously looked at the trio of freshmen and Grim. “Hey! That’s the Headmage’s fault, he doesn’t give me enough allowance to keep the fridge stocked and feed Grim’s bottomless stomach,” Yuu crossed his arms. “But, you had enough ingredients for salsa,” Allen set the plate out on the table in front of everyone.

“Uh, are we just gonna eat it plain Allen?” Deuce seemed uncomfortable at the idea. “No, of course not,” Allen shot that idea down. Suddenly, white wings cut through the air. Chara flew onto Allen’s shoulder with a bag of tortilla chips in her mouth. Chara let the bag of chips fall into Allen’s hands, who then opened the bag and put it onto the plate with the dips.

“She can fetch too?! Man, why can’t Grim do anything useful like that?” Yuu complained. “Dude, only you would use a wyvern to go get you a snack,” Ace shook his head.

“Well, thank you Chara,” Deuce nodded to the wyvern, who smiled in response and stepped closer to him. Chara snaked her tail around Deuce’s arm and let out a subtle hiss that almost sounded like a purr. “....what do I do? I’ve heard of snakes doing this, is she trying to eat me?!” Deuce panicked while looking at Allen for help. Ace broke out laughing, he held his stomach as he fell to the floor. “No she’s not trying to eat you, I think she likes you Deuce.” Allen smiled a little.

“Allen this is the best fucking salsa I’ve ever had,” Yuu practically inhaled the food. “Myah! Leave some for me henchman!” Grim screamed, jumping at the food. Somehow, Allen felt this scene was backwards.

Isn’t Grim supposed to be the one eating all the food

And Yuu is supposed to be the one telling Grim to save him some

Guess your food can cause miracles Ally

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

The freshmen all go to sleep after eating food and playing games. Grim kept losing at Old Maid and nearly set Ace on fire when Ace made fun of him for it. Allen rubbed his eyes and woke up in the middle of the night. To be fair, he never actually went to sleep. Sleeping in foreign places made him keep his guard up. His father would always tell him to never let go completely, even around good acquaintances. Acquaintances, not friends. Because assassins could never have friends. Allen looked at the sleeping people near him, who all fell asleep in the living room while watching a movie. He didn’t know if he could call them just acquaintances, but he couldn’t outright call them friends either.

He checked his mind, Nanika was asleep. She didn’t have his sleep problems, but considering the fact that she didn’t have a physical body, she didn’t need to.

Allen got up without waking the others and went outside Ramshackle, to take a walk around the dorm. He had so much on his mind. The first thing that came up was Lilia Vanrouge and that Leona’s reactions to him. Why did they act like that? Did his bloodlust slip? Did his nen slip? Did they sense Nanika? No, it couldn’t be the last one. No one could sense Nanika, not even his grandfather or father did when she was around back on Kukuroo Mountain.

Something caught Allen’s eye as he was walking. Allen stopped and saw a man. Allen went closer and stopped dead in his tracks when the stranger looked right at him. The two were face to face. Allen’s breath hitched. The stranger was ethereal, with ebony hair, pale skin that seemed like it was glowing, soft purple hued lips, and two gorgeous black horns on top of his head. The man looked straight out of a painting.

“Oh? You are….a child of man? No, something else. You’re not entirely human, are you?” The handsome man asked. Allen opened his mouth, and closed it. His throat suddenly felt dry. He’d never seen such a pretty person in his life. “I’m human, well,” he thought about Nanika, “I think I’m human.”

“You live here?” The stranger asked, Allen shook his head. “I’m an Ignihyde student, but my frien—someone I’m close with, invited me to a sleepover here. He’s the one who lives here, with his cat thing.” Allen didn’t know why he was answering the stranger’s questions, but he felt compelled to. Like he was in a trance. “I see, I was under the impression this place was abandoned. But now that I know it is not, I will leave,” the stranger turned to go. Allen felt himself lunge forward a little, “Wait!” The stranger looked back with a raised eyebrow.

“What’s your name?”

“....You…don’t know who I am?”

“No? Am I supposed to?”

The stranger paused, and then laughed a little. “To think, there is someone who does not know me! Well then, I am….actually it might be best if I didn’t tell you. You may call me whatever you wish, but you might regret it in the future.”

“You don’t have to leave! Um, I don’t live here, but I’m sure the one who does wouldn’t mind if you came. You can come back next time,” Allen wanted the stranger to stay a little longer. “Hmm? You truly have no fear, but I shall accept your invitation.” The stranger smirked. “Since you won’t tell me your name, I won’t tell you mine either. So you can come up with a name for me as well.” Allen told him.

“Oh? You are a brave child of man…no, not man I suppose,” the stranger stepped forward and seemed to study Allen’s features. “...beastie,” the stranger decided. Allen paused, beastie? What kind of nickname was that? “Till the next time we meet then beastie,” the stranger left in a flurry of green.

Allen felt his heart race a little while he remembered the stranger. He shook his head, now was not the time for such thoughts. Allen headed back inside, now he just needed to come with a nickname for this stranger.

Now….how was he going to explain this encounter to Nanika?

Notes:

Grim CANNOT go without almost setting something on fire or breaking something. Also I’m curious to see if anyone has theories about why Leona and Lilia reacted the way that they did to Allen in previous chapters 🤔 It may or may not have been hinted at. Also....THE SCENE WITH MALLEUS!!! I know I probably added him in earlier than he shows up in the game, but that's fine. And I feel like with Allen having only done assassin missions and not been allowed much exposure with the outside world by his parents (it's so he didn't escape and end up like Killua), Allen hasn't seen many attractive people. And based on the magazine's of models he's seen from Milluki's room, Malleus is WAAY more attractive. So let the dude admire in peace! Also any guesses why Malleus didn't react the way Leona and Lilia did?
❤️❤️❤️
** there will be graphic descriptions because allen is an assassin man, he’s killed people and he’s a kid so he’s traumatized. If that bothers you then please DO NOT READ!! Don’t come at me in the comments**

Chapter 15: 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟒 🌹🌹

Summary:

Allen receives his Unbirthday Party wear and gets an impromptu makeover from the one and only stylist extraordinare, Yuu! While walking to class, Yuu and Allen have a conversation about Yuu being from another world, which leads to some weird revelations.

Notes:

GUYGUYS GUESS WHO FINALLY DREW ART OF OUR FAVORITE MC ALLEN??? btw I used some reference bases cuz I couldn't figure out how to draw the head shape. It's not a full body drawing because I don't have the art skills for that, but hey, at least there's a visual now.

Chapter Text

It was early in the morning, and while Allen was contemplating the events of the night before, he felt a presence start to approach Ramshackle. He didn’t detect any malicious intent from the presence, but got up to check it out nonetheless.

Why are you up, at this godforsaken hour??

There is someone coming

Are they dangerous?

No

Then go back to pretending to sleep

Ignoring Nanika, Allen woke up from the living room everyone had fallen asleep in and went to the front door. Allen swung the door open to see Trey right in front of him about to knock on the door. Trey’s eyes widened and his face slowly broke into a smile, “Wow, it’s like you knew I was there! Sorry to bother you this early.” Allen shook his head, “No, it’s fine, what do you need?” Trey handed Allen the white gift box he was holding, which had a red bow tied around it.

“This is the outfit you’re supposed to wear to the Unbirthday Party, since you’re Riddle’s guest, you need to wear something different than what the rest of us do,” Trey smiled and said to say hi to Ace and Deuce before leaving Allen with the box.

Allen opened the box after Trey left and held up the outfit. He felt his soul slowly escape him, Nanika appeared and pushed it back into him.

You’re gonna stick out like a sore thumb

I can already feel the stares

Imagine

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Wait, that's what you have to wear? Pfftt,” Ace broke out into laughter, “you’re already kinda ugly but putting you in that outfit will just make you stand out more!”

How dare he?! You’re not ugly Ally, your hair is just in a questionably messy braid and needs to be brushed out and put into a proper one. And you need to trim your bangs. And maybe tie the headband on a little better, it keeps looking like its gonna fall off.

You sure made a lot of comments towards my appearance for someone who thinks I don’t look ugly

It’s the principle of things!

“Don’t feel bad Allen…..you’re not ugly , it’s just…..” Yuu trailed off while looking at Allen’s unkept hair and outfit. “You just need a makeover. OH I GOT IT!” Yuu ran off somewhere and brought back a dusty box. “Uh, what are you gonna do with that Prefect?” Deuce questioned. “I’m gonna give Allen a new look,” Yuu clearly wasn’t about to take no for an answer.

“Dude, I don’t think you can salvage…” Ace pointed at Allen’s shaggy appearance, “ that .”

Ally you should’ve worn the jacket we found in that suitcase. It was pretty and pinkish red. And it looked way better than the oversized blazer you’re wearing right now.

The only thing good about your outfit is the heels you’re wearing

I don’t think it really matters

“Fine, you can, ‘give me a makeover,’ but if you cut my bangs too short,” Allen looked Yuu dead in the eyes, “I’ll hurt you.”

Finally, you’re threatening people. You’re acting like the Ally I know

My hair is sacred

“Okay, Allen I’m gonna need you to go upstairs, and we’re gonna change everything. We have a LOT of time before classes anyways, since someone woke us all up by falling down the stairs.” Yuu momentarily glared at Deuce. “Hey! I was half asleep and wanted water,” Deuce sheepishly rubbed his head.

“Yeah yeah, come back when you’ve turned shaggy over here into a normal human being.” Ace threw another insult at Allen’s appearance. Seriously, it wasn’t that big of a deal to him.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Okay, first things first. You need to ditch the blazer.”

“But why?”

“My guy, you’re practically swimming in it.”

“Fine.”

Allen unbuttoned his blazer and handed it to Yuu, who promptly threw it to the ground in a dramatic fashion. Allen gave Yuu a look saying, ‘ Was that necessary? ’ And Yuu gave Allen a look saying, ‘ Don’t even try me right now .’

“Do you have something to wear instead of the blazer or are we just gonna leave it like that?”

Ally! The jacket! The jacket!

“I have this jacket thing? But I feel like it’ll clash with the blue vest.”

“Your fashion opinions don’t count anymore, just show me.”

Allen didn’t know if he should feel insulted or grateful for Yuu’s help. But at least Grim wasn’t here. That furball would start cackling with Ace. And he really did not need to be violated by a cat on top of everyone else’s comments. That would be too big of a blow to his pride.

Allen picked up the bag of stuff he brought with him from Ignihyde and dug out the jacket. It was a deep maroon that had a little pink in it, and had flowy sleeves. It kind of reminded Allen of the traditional clothes his mother made him and Kalluto wear, but he thinks it was more like a cardigan than an actual outfit.

I think it’s called a haori?

Yeah that.

“....you could’ve worn the haori the whole time, but you picked that stupid blazer?”

“....yes?”

Yuu couldn’t tell if Allen simply didn’t see how terrible of a decision that was or if Allen just wanted to look like a prehistoric goat. Now that Yuu got a good look at Allen without the stupid blazer on, he noticed that Allen had some muscle. It wasn’t like, in your face kind of muscle, but Allen seemed like he was pretty athletic. Perhaps that’s what people call a sleeper build? Also, isn't haori japanese? Wasn’t this a different world? How did Allen have one?

“Okay you have the haori, the turtle neck you’re wearing is fine, and you can keep the blue vest. Wait, gimmie a second.”

Yuu brought out a dark brown belt and dusted it off.

Is he gonna give you a belt from the previous residents of Ramshackle? Is that safe?

I don’t know anything at this point. I wasn’t trained in the art of fashion.

“There, the brown belt completes the look, and your heels match your haori. The necklace is kinda weird but you do you I guess. Now, it’s time for your hair.”

I feel scared. I’m an assassin, I’ve dealt with far worse than this. But I’m kinda scared right now.

If you get microbangs then I think I’m gonna need to find someone else to accompany.

I will die if Yuu gives me microbangs.

Yuu took out some scissors and trimmed the edges of Allen’s bangs, “You have so many dead ends in your bangs bro.” Allen put a hand up to stop Yuu from cutting any further. Yuu frowned, “It’s still a little long though.” Allen didn’t care, it felt kind of weird to have his face exposed.

After he was done, Yuu wiped the nonexistent sweat off his forehead, and tucked some strands behind Allen’s ears.

“There, now we can see your eyes–” Yuu cut off, staring at Allen’s face which was more visible now.

“What? Is my face that ugly or something?” Allen tilted his head.

I’m literally average looking, not even that bad! Why is Yuu staring at me?

Ally he isn’t staring because he thinks you’re ugly

Then why’s he looking at me?

“Dude,” Yuu looked betrayed, “where have you been hiding this kind of face card?”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Why are you putting makeup on me?”

“I need to strengthen your beauty.”

“Wait, why are you taking my hair out of the braid?”

“Your so-called ‘braid,’ is a bird’s nest.”

“Don’t touch it, I’ll rebraid it myself.”

“Fine, but if you mess it up again, I swear to god, I will smack you.”

“As if you could.”

“I’d try?”

“And you’d fail.”

“What are those weird bead things you put in your hair that have faces on them? And the headband that also has faces on them?”

“.....a family member’s idea.”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“BEHOLD MY MASTERPIECE!” Yuu shouted as he presented Allen. Ace and Deuce’s jaws dropped to the floor. Ace had to rub his eyes when he looked at Allen—was that really the same guy?—due to the sheer intensity of sparkles blinding him. And Allen’s eyes looked so pretty, Ace didn’t know Allen had heterochromia. But why did the blue and pink in Allen’s eyes seem to change each time he looked at it? Maybe Ace was just hallucinating.

(Ace knew he wasn’t hallucinating, but he didn’t bring it to attention.)

(Ace wasn’t one to comment on other people’s scars and he was smart enough to realize now wasn’t the time to bring it up, and that Allen probably wouldn’t explain yet. But Ace was also smart enough to know that the large diagonal scar Allen had from the side of his face to right under his eye wasn’t normal. Ace shuddered to think where Allen got it from. And the two other scratch marks on the other side of Allen’s face were also concerning. They looked like tiger stripes.)

(It made Ace a little scared. Because if he was honest, what did any of them really know about Allen Zilck? That Allen had a wyvern familiar? That he had a sort of off-putting presence that seemed to hover around him? Most of that was common knowledge.)

“Woah…you look like a moon fairy.” Deuce did not realize he said that sentence out loud and turned red a little in embarrassment. “Oi prefect, are you sure you didn’t switch out someone for Allen?” Ace nudged Yuu. “Nope! This is Allen, how did he not get sorted into Pomefiore?” Yuu sighed.

Grim, who was now awake, smirked. “It’s good that you look better henchman! The Great Grim’s assistant can’t be ugly!”

I despise this little creature

Nanika…..am I really not ugly?

…You’re still questioning? You’re very pretty Ally.

“Aren’t we supposed to be going to class?”

“Oh shit.”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Allen, remember to follow me closely, okay. Or you’ll get lost again.” Yuu gave Allen a look. Hey, it wasn’t like Allen got lost all the time , it was more that he just….ended up in the wrong place sometimes. Totally.

“My classroom is next to yours, so we can part ways once we get there.” Allen sort of wished he and the others had more classes together. But the only subject Allen wasn’t the best at was History of Magic, so Allen got a normal freshman class for that one. Ace told him that they were all in Class 1A and tried to compare schedules, but they all ended up a little confused when Allen was in some of the advanced classes. They did have History of Magic together though.

“Henchman! Why aren’t you smart like other henchman here?” Grim pointed to Allen. “I’m literally from a different world, Grim, I don’t know anything about magic.” Yuu looked semi-irritated, “I was actually pretty smart in my world ya know.”

Did Yuu just say….

Yeah, he did, do you think he’s like us?

No…he has as little nen in him as everyone else here

“You’re from another world?” Allen didn’t know this information beforehand, but it was reasonable considering how Yuu knew as little about magic as he did. “Oh yeah, I never told you. I’m from a place called Earth, it’s like a different dimension, and I got hit by the black carriage while crossing the street and somehow ended up isekai’d here.”

Allen blinked his eyes. And then blinked some more. “You….got hit by a carriage?”

Yuu sighed, “Yup, sounds dumb, I know.” Allen tilted his head, Yuu said he’s from a place called Earth. Allen doesn’t know of any places in the Known World called Earth, none of the 6 continents are named that, and he doesn’t think there are any cities named after the ground. Could it be a place in the NGL? Not many people go there after all, and Allen doesn’t know much about the NGL.

“...do you by any chance know of a place called Yorknew City? Or the Republic of Padokea? Or the NGL?” Allen really hoped Yuu did, or else that would mean he and Yuu were from different worlds. “Yorknew? Do you mean New York? Wait, how do you know where that is?” Yuu’s face twisted up. “Wait a minute, aren’t those places from the H̵̲͋ũ̷̲ǹ̴̘t̵̖̯̄e̸͚͙͑r̵͈̫̾͑ ̷̭̆x̵̟́ ̴̰̯́̌H̶̡͘ȕ̸̥̣ń̵̰̞ẗ̸͍̇e̸͚̍ṙ̷̳̫͂  anime?”

Did Yuu just say anime?

Yuu knows what hunters are?

And what does he mean ‘New York?’

Nanika….I think something might be wrong

“Let’s talk about this more during lunch,” Allen gave Yuu a solemn look before heading into his classroom, a thousand questions were rampant in his mind, and judging by the look on Yuu’s face, Yuu had questions too. What exactly was going on?

Notes:

I can't believe it took me like 14 chapters to actually draw Allen lmao. My school is starting in like 10 days and I'm super freaked out, I don't wanna do homework again. help. Also, next chapter gonna be Allen's classmates reaction to his new look, and also some explaining between Yuu and Allen. Hmm, should I draw Yuu next? Oh and js saying, i'm probably never going to draw Chara because I CANNOT draw animals, like for the life of me. So just visualize Chara as a baby dragon that doesn't have arms or legs and just a long body and tail, with the wings of course. Chara is basically a snake with wings lol.

Chapter 16: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟱 🌹🌹

Summary:

In which Allen finally socializes with people in his math class, and said people in his math finally realize Allen isn't just a dumb upstart. Guess his intelligence is finally showing. And Yuu and Allen finally have a talk during lunch about their....circumstances, and Allen takes a leap of faith and reveals who he is at last.

*STARRING the author's amazing Calculus skills (istg if any of this is wrong and i js embarrassed myself in WRITING, it'll be my 13th reason), to make Allen seem smart. I hate writing smart characters because then I need to be smart*

Notes:

This chapter literally took me forever to write, finally pushed past the writer's block. I've also started working on another twisted wonderland fic, as if I don't have enough work already, because I love to torture myself.

EDIT (10/4/25) The Octavinelle second year I introduced in the beginning of the story, Alois Luer, yeah I'm scrapping him and replacing him with another Octavinelle OC that'll be introduced this chapter. I'm gonna go back and change Alois Luer's name to the new character's name in the old chapters, but I'll add it in the fanfic summary to avoid confusion in the future

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Okay, it’s been 10 minutes into class, and this was becoming irritating. Allen felt a vein pop onto the side of his forehead as he struggled to maintain a calm expression. Not only did Allen have math as his first class of the day, because of course he did, but for some reason, he was stuck in this stupid situation.

Allen knows many people who’d love to be the center of attention with all eyes on them. But he is not one of those people. He would like to fade away into the background please!

But yet again, lady luck was not on his side. It never was.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Let’s talk about this more at lunch,” he turned from Yuu and walked into his classroom. That was weird, now Allen had even more questions. Well, at least he didn’t need to deal with any of that confusing other dimension stuff until lunch, and nobody bothered him in his classes anyways so he was fine. The Diasomnia students that used to come up to him with stupid demands don’t anymore after Chara tried setting one on fire.

Uh, Ally?

What?

You might wanna snap out of your thoughts for a quick second

What? Allen thought as he looked up. Suddenly he understood what Nanika was talking about. So many eyes were on him. Basically everyone in class was looking at him. What the heck was going on?

“Is that a new student?”

“Pfft, NRC doesn’t accept transfers this late dumbass.”

“Uh guys, I think that's the Ignihyde student who like doesn’t talk at all in class.”

“Please, there’s no way that guy, is this guy. They look completely different! I’m not even sure the Ignihyde kid even had eyes! Always hiding them behind his bird’s nest of a head.”

Each comment–which was really an insult–was an invisible arrow to the chest. Allen coughed to regain composure. Was he that unrecognizable before?

Yes.

No, they’re just exaggerating

Oh my god, you have to be kidding

Allen eyed the people watching him in confusion as he walked up the stairs to the row he sat in. He didn’t want to sit in the front, then the professor would notice him, but he also didn’t want to sit way in the back, he wouldn’t see the board, and failing the class would draw worse attention towards him. Allen also didn’t think his pride could take failing an academic course. So he sat a little closer to the back, but middle enough that he could still hear and see the professor.

As Allen put his bag down and took out his notebook and pen, he heard more whispers.

This is hilarious

I didn't even look that bad!

Who are you lying to right now?

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

So yeah, that’s the situation he’s in right now. Also, where was the professor? They’re like 15 minutes late! The only thing on the board is to open our packets to page 23 and solve problems. This is so dumb. Allen looked at his paper, some of the questions were confusing, but he only had like 3 left, so he’s probably not behind.

Allen stared at the paper trying to figure out the question. There’s the derivatives of a bunch of functions in a table. And he needs to figure out how to manipulate them to give him the values he needs to find g(x).

It is at this moment that Allen decides he doesn’t like functions.

Should he ask someone for help?

Nanika hates math, and is currently ignoring his pleas for help. Because of course, the one time he needs her help, she decides to go on temporary vacation. How reliable. And it’s not like he can ask Chara, she’s a damn wyvern! Wyverns don’t know math!

Allen’s eyes kept darting from his packet to the person next to him.

Okay, terrible social skills be damned, I’m just gonna go for it

“H-hey uh,” wonderful, perfect start to a conversation, “did you figure out how to solve question 43?” The student Allen asked, who he noticed wore a dark red arm band–Scarabia then–looked up at Allen like he was confused why Allen was speaking to him.

The student scoffed, “Obviously not, class started like 15 minutes ago.” He rolled his eyes, “You’re probably not even at that question, why would you ask–”

The Scarabia student stopped mid-sentence when his eyes landed on Allen’s packet. Each question until the 43rd was solved with a neatly boxed answer. Allen’s seat mate grabbed his packet and flipped through the pages, his eyes wide.

“What the actual–” The Scarabia student looked up at Allen in shock, “dude, how are you at question 43?” Allen didn’t know what to say, was he moving slowly? “Am I supposed to be farther ahead or something?” Allen tilted his head, isn’t this the average speed.

“Are you supposed to be farther ahead–are you kidding me?” His seat mate just stared at Allen like he was some rare creature. “Jeez, what are you man? Some super computer? That’s gotta be like 2-3 questions a minute. And here I thought you were just some dumbass.”

Allen wasn’t sure if the beginning was a compliment, but why was he also being insulted?

“You’re that far ahead? Crazy speed, anyways, what did you get on 12?” A new voice–coming from the person who sat in the row in front of Allen–asked. Allen looked at his arm band, a Octavinelle student.

“Pfft–you’re still on 12,” the Scarabia student taunted. “Shut the hell up spotty ears.” The Octavinelle student glared at Allen’s seat mate. Maybe Allen should interfere so they don’t fight, and he really wanted his seat mate to get to question 43 so his questions could be answered.

“Hey,” another student next to them turned to Allen, “what did you get for 22?”

“For #22 I got negative seven times sin x .”

The Scarabia student looked at his packet, “Oh I skipped that question.”

“How did you solve #22?” The other student looked at the question in frustration. Allen leaned forward a little and looked at the boy’s paper, and he saw the mistake. Allen pointed at the step he did wrong with his pen.

“You forgot that the derivative of a constant is 0 here.”

The student looked at his packet, “Crap I forgot about that rule. Why are there so many rules?” He erased and redid his equation but still didn’t get the same answer Allen did.

“How did you get negative seven?”

“Because the derivative of cos x is negative sin x, not just sin x, you’re mixing it up with the other rule. You need to find the derivative of each term to find the derivative of the whole thing, so with the constants canceled out, you just convert cos x to negative sin x. And then you just need to multiply negative sin x with the coefficient 7.”

All three people Allen was talking to looked up at him, blinking their eyes. Allen sent them a confused look. Did he not explain it properly? Some of the other people in class were staring at him too.

“....did I not explain it clearly?”

“..so you’re one of those smart kids huh,” the Octavinelle student sighed, “didn’t expect that from such a quiet kid, especially when you walked in here with your face. Thought you were one of those dumb Pomefiore type guys who think looks are everything.”

“Don’t forget their need for drama,” the Scarabia student added. The other student who’d asked Allen the question seemed ticked off.

Oh shit….he’s a Pomefiore student

“Shut up!” The Pomefiore student seethed before turning his attention to Allen. It was like the guy was dissecting Allen’s appearance. Oddly, Allen felt a slight bit of insecurity creep up, like he was being judged.

“Hm, not bad. Good that you’ve done something with that mop of hair…..” the Pomefiore student’s voice quieted as his eyes trailed down the length of Allen’s braid. “You–” he pointed a finger at Allen, who was utterly confused, a feeling he was getting used to feeling, “what is your hair care routine?! I must know! What products do you use to keep it so long and shiny? And what is that odd headband and matching beads in your hair?”

“Sevens, looks like Yvez is on another tangent,” the Scarabia student sighed, “he’s gonna keep hounding you with questions.”

Allen sweatdropped. Maybe if he just ignored the Pomefiore student, the guy would go away? What’s that old saying, out of sight, out of mind? Wait a minute…..he doesn’t know anyone’s names. This whole time Allen’s just been referring to these three by their dorms!

“So uh,” Allen cringed at the terrible conversation starter, “what are all of your names?” He really hoped none of them would take offence. “Hah? Why do you want our names?” The Octavinelle student looked up at Allen. What does he mean? Obviously he wants to know who his classmates are! These people are all so weird.

“Well, we’ve been talking for the past 20 minutes,” Allen looked at the clock on the wall, “it’s proper manners to know the name of who you’re speaking to.” The Octavinelle student looked at Allen like he’d grown a second head and started muttering something along the lines of Heartslabyul and then stopped.

“I guess since we’ll be sitting next to each other for the rest of the year it couldn’t hurt,” The Scarabia student started, “I’m Zayd Rosette, a junior from Scarabia.”

“Yvez Faethorn, a Pomefiore junior.”

“And I’m Flaun, a sophomore from Octavinelle.”

Haven’t I heard that name before? It seems familiar, like someone’s mentioned him to me

Allen nodded, mentally jotting down the names so he could associate them with their faces. Oh wait he has to introduce himself now too.

“My name is Allen, Allen Zilck. I’m an Ignihyde freshman.”

There was a large pause between Yvez, Zayd, and Flaun–who were all just staring at Allen, blinking their eyes.

“....”

“YOU’RE A FRESHMAN?!”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Maybe I shouldn’t tell people I’m a freshman anymore

I don’t get what the big deal is

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

It was finally lunch time, and Allen couldn’t wait to sit down with the rest of his friends.

(he was going to ignore the ‘assassins can’t have friends’ rule the entire time he’s in twisted wonderland. it was so much fun having them, no wonder killua left them for his friend.)

Don’t forget you have to talk to Yuu about the different world thing

Oh right. That conversation is going to be such a pain

After managing to grab a lunch Nanika semi-approved of—she started yelling at him when he tried to pick a salad—he sat down at his usual table.

At least you’re eating normally now. I still wish you’d gotten the fries

That would be too many calories, I already have a sandwich, some fruit, and apple juice.

You’re a literal assassin, you need more food

Technically, I haven’t done any missions yet, so I’m an assassin on vacation

Yet you still insist on doing basic training during the night

Well I can’t get rusty can I?

“Oi Allen! Got here before us did you?” Yuu called out to him, Ace, Deuce, and Grim trailing behind. The others sat down with him, talking about their classes. Ace started complaining that Trein gave them too much homework, and then started making fun of Deuce for falling asleep in class.

You should bring it up now

“Hey Yuu,” Allen turned to the shorter boy, “about the thing we were talking about before. The different world thing.” Yuu seemed to remember what Allen was talking about. “Oh, I have so many questions for you.” Allen sighed, so did he.

“How do you know what Hunter x Hunter is?” Yuu asked.

“I don’t really know what Hunter x Hunter is, but I know what hunters are. The truth is, I’m also from another dimension. The dark mirror appeared out of nowhere and then I think I grabbed something’s hand, and I lost consciousness. The next thing I know, I’m at the sorting ceremony.”

Yuu stared intently at Allen before drawing in a sharp breath. “..Do you know what Earth is?”

Allen shook his head. The only ‘earth’ he knew of was the ground, but he had a feeling that wasn’t what Yuu was talking about.

“Then I think you and I….aren’t from the same world either.” Yuu thought for a minute. “Wait, you said you knew what hunters were right? I have a really wild theory, it’s probably crazy, and not true. But have you heard of the Zoldyck family, or the Phantom troupe?”

How does he know what those are if he’s not from where we’re from? Why does Yuu recognize those names?

I don’t know. Nanika, can we trust Yuu?

He doesn’t seem to have ill intentions, but I’m not completely sure. But still, if we want answers…

We’re gonna have to aren’t we?

Yeah

“Yuu, I don’t know how you know those names,” Allen’s voice sounded serious, “but since you recognize them, I’ll tell you a little about me. My real name is Allen Zoldyck, and I think I’m from the world you somehow seem to know about.”

Yuu’s jaw dropped. Ace and Deuce seemed to take notice of their conversation and have been intently listening in. And Grim….was just confused.

“...holy shit.” Were the only words that came out of Yuu’s mouth.

“So you’re an…” Yuu’s voice dropped into a hushed whisper, so only Allen could hear the next thing he’d say, “assassin?” Allen hesitantly nodded.

“Do you know what an anime is Allen?”

Allen nodded, “Yeah.”

“Let’s just say, your world is an anime in my world.”

Allen blinked. Well shit. This just got a whole lot more complicated.

Notes:

Again sorry for the late update, I've been busy with homework and sick with a cold for the past two weeks. The September sickness lasted way too long for me 😔😔 Also, stomach cramps are making me a moody bitch so. GUESS WHO'S FINALLY STARTED DRAWING OTHER CHARACTERS FROM THIS FIC??? ME HAHHAHAHA. My art block is cured so I'm working my trusty dusty stylus to the bone!

Also, new OCs? Zayd, Yvez, and Flaun are all my OCs and based on things. Yves and Flaun are the only two based on other Disney characters, but Zayd is just a beastman. Can anyone guess what characters Yves and Flaun are inspired by? Or what type of beastman Zayd is?

Chapter 17: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟲 🌹🌹

Summary:

Allen and Yuu clear some things up about their weird situation, and Allen has mixed feelings about the interaction. But guess what time it is? Time to finally get ready for the Unbirthday Party!! Allen is also starting to realize he's not going to blend in as much as he wants to at the party.

Notes:

SURPRISE A QUICK SECOND UPDATE 🥳🥳!!!!! I felt generous today and decided to whip something up fast. This chapter is a little longer than my usual chapters, my usual chapter are like 2.2k words, this one is like 2.7k words, but that's mostly becuz I yapped about some descriptions.

But yeah, NEW CHAPTER hehehehehe. Tell me guys, am I amazing, or am I amazing? Author is on a roll today. Author also has a rlly important science test tomorrow and needs to study, but hasn't so....yeah.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“Sorry, did you just say anime?” Allen’s eyes widened in exasperation. If Nanika had pupils, hers would’ve as well, because she immediately stood up–full attention on Yuu. Yuu nodded, a bit of pity in his eyes. Allen didn’t like that. Why was he being pitied? Yuu was looking at Allen like he knew something about Allen’s life–

Allen paused.

Ally….you don’t think..

“.....did you watch it?” Allen’s voice was hushed.

“..yeah.”

Yuu didn’t–couldn’t–look up.

(Of course Yuu watched the show. It was a really, really popular show. Yuu’s favorite arc was the Greed Island arc. But why did Yuu feel so guilty for watching it? It’s not like he knew the show was Allen’s world. Heck, he didn’t even know Allen existed when he watched it!)

(A small part of Yuu asked him how horrified he’d feel if someone watched a show where people from his family were main parts of it, and it showed all the bad parts of their family.)

(Allen was an assassin.)

(The abuse.)

(The training.)

(Yuu doesn’t remember Allen Zoldyck in the show, maybe he was an unimportant character.)

(THE ABUSE.)

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Wait, so Allen, you’re an alien too?” Ace asked, scrunching his face a little. “But you’re an alien…from an anime in Yuu’s world,” Ace paused, “that’s kinda crazy.”

Of course it’s crazy. It’s stupid. It shouldn’t be possible

I can’t believe someone’s seen things about my whole family. I can’t believe the multiple universe theory is real

Uh Ally, you good? Breathe, remember to breathe

“Allen, are you okay?” Deuce noticed Allen’s wary expression and looked at him with concern. Thank you Deuce Allen thought internally. At least one person seemed to check up on him.

Okay Deuce is now my official favorite, Yuu has been bumped down on the list

He’s growing on you

After some cross-checking, he’s discovered that show (it’s not a show, it’s his world. parts of his life) ended with Killua coming home and taking Alluka with him, and then travelling off. Allen knew Alluka went with him, but it was hard to believe he separated from Gon. But it’s not like Killua really kept contact, so who could blame him for not being up to date. But that happened when Killua was 14–which was 3 years ago.

He was 13 at the time. He remembers when Killua came back to take Nanika. It wasn’t a happy memory. Why didn’t Killua take him too? Of course he didn’t, Killua hates him, they all do.

And the show apparently focused mostly on Killua and Gon. Allen felt he could let out a sigh of relief. At least it wasn’t centered around him. If it was, then he might just need to….wipe some information from Yuu’s brain. Don’t get him wrong, he does think of Yuu as a friend. But Allen isn’t ready to tell anyone about his background just yet. He’d make sure the process was painless of course!

I still don’t like that people watched about our family in that one season. What was it called? The Zoldyck Family arc? Sounds stupid. And disgusting. Nobody needs to see what goes in that place

Would Yuu mind if I wiped their memory?

Yes, people have a thing about non-consensual alterations

Oh, that seems problematic. It didn’t reveal much about me though, so I’ll leave it be

Hmm, good idea. Wouldn’t want to scare Yuu away

Ace leaned forward, “Are you really…” he trailed off and looked sideways to make sure no one was looking, “an assassin?” Allen couldn’t help but chuckle a little, sometimes he forgets that normal people were scared of people like him. He nods to Ace’s question. Would they shy away from him as well? Hopefully not. Then he really might need to wipe their memories. And that would be a shame.

“Myah! So that just means you’re strong huh? As expected of my henchman number 2!” Grim grinned as he stuffed an omelet into his mouth, bits of food flew as he spoke. “Grim don’t speak while talking,” Yuu made a disgusted face as he wiped off bits of omelet that flew on his arm with a napkin.

“So you’re really strong, but you’re also really smart,” Deuce muttered some things about being an honor student before grabbing Allen’s hands on his own, “please teach me how to be like you!”

Allen stared at their responses, nothing came out of his mouth when he opened it.

Well. That was a unique response. Usually people don’t believe us, or they just run away. How fun!

Are we sure these people are all good in the head?

Nope!

Of course they aren’t

A small–but rare–smile broke out onto Allen’s face, his eyes softened a little as a short laugh escaped him. Allen’s shoulders quivered a little.

“You guys are so weird!” He broke into small fits of laughter. That was the most eccentric response to finding out someone is an assassin. Was this how Killua felt when Gon stuck with him after finding out what their family did? The 4 people in question—Allen doesn’t know if Grim counts as a person or the group pet—just stared at Allen, shocked by the rare display of emotion.

Allen’s smile was contagious, igniting a smile on Yuu’s face as well. Grim didn’t know why Allen was laughing, did someone tell a joke? Ace seemed to turn a little red and looked away. And Deuce….just couldn’t pull his eyes off Allen.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

The two Heartslabyul students stared as Allen laughed. The Ignihyde student didn’t laugh much. He chuckled sure, and smirked sometimes, or made petty comments. But a genuine laugh? Never. They would remember.

The way Allen’s face softened and his dual colored eyes sparkled. The feeling of knowing that they were the ones to put such an expression on Allen’s face, made them feel a certain way–honestly it made them feel a little pride too, they were the first to make Allen laugh like this.

Maybe this is why Housewarden seemed to like him, Deuce thought.

At first, he seems….wrong, but then you start talking to him. There’s just something about him that pulls you in after a little while, Ace thought.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“You shouldn’t smile like that around other people you know,” Ace pointed out, “we found you first.”

What am I, an object?

Uhh, finder’s keepers? I found you first.

Again, I’m a person. And what is he talking about?

“What Ace is trying to say is,” Deuce elbowed Ace, “that kind of thing is a little dangerous at Night Raven.” Again, Allen had no idea what they were talking about. All he did was smile. It wasn’t that big of a deal! Allen turned to Yuu for help, at least one normal person could explain this to him.

And Yuu….was just nodding with what Ace and Deuce said. “Yeah this school is filled with assholes. But don’t worry Allen,” Yuu slung an arm around Allen’s shoulder and brought him closer to the group, “we got your back.”

So Yuu was also useless. What did he even expect?

I’m the literal assassin here, what could I possibly need protection from?

You just don’t get it do you Ally?

No I don’t. That’s my point. Can someone explain please? I’m stronger than all 4 of them combined, I’m gonna be the one protecting them

Don’t worry about it

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

All classes were finally over, and Allen didn’t have to deal with any more people staring at his face. Turns out it wasn’t just his math class that seemed to have that reaction. His practical magic class with Riddle went the same way–with Riddle just coughing awkwardly at first and then telling Allen his haircut was acceptable–and so did History of Magic, and the rest.

Who knew school was so tiring? Allen was kind of glad the Zoldycks didn’t trust anyone outside the family to teach them.

Time to get ready for the Unbirthday Party

Why is it today? Why can’t it just not exist? I just want to sleep

You’ve never bothered with sleep before

This world is a bad influence. I’m being corrupted

Allen promised Yuu he’d meet up at Ramshackle so they could “get ready together.” Allen didn’t see the appeal in that, but he wouldn’t mind the company. It’s not like he had any friends in Ignihyde anyway. Sometimes the people in the dorm would just avoid him after muttering things like “S-ranked main character” and “major stay away vibes.” Allen doesn’t know what those mean, so he doesn’t know if he should be offended or not. But considering the fact that they’re avoiding him, it’s probably an insult. Though there is one Ignihyde student that talks to him sometimes. He’s not really a student though. He looks like a child, has flaming blue hair, and is apparently a robot. Allen’s never seen a robot like that before.

Allen grabbed the box of attire he was supposed to wear, some hair ties, and walked out the door. He would need to get to Ramshackle quickly if he wanted time to change. And no doubt would he be interrupted by the ghosts or Grim. Probably even Ace and Deuce too.

I wish I could dress up too

I mean, you could always clone a version of what I’m wearing?

But it’s a little plain! There are barely any colors other than light blue, white, and black. I want something vibrant and popping, like some pink or red!

Just make your own outfit then

Ugh finee, no one’s even gonna see it

“Ah Allen Zilck!” A humanoid figure called out to Allen as he was about to leave Ignihyde. Allen turned, it was probably the boy.

“Ortho, hello,” Allen tilted his head a little in acknowledgment–the formal habit of semi-bowing his head still engraved in his brain, “I’ve been invited to the Heartslabyul Unbirthday party, I’m going to meet up with some friends.”

Ortho’s eyes lit up, “That sounds like fun! I don’t have much data on Unbirthday parties since I’ve never been invited to one. It’s nice to see someone from our dorm go out, most of us don’t really socialize with other dorms. Big brother especially.” Ortho sighed. It was one of the things the boy talked to Allen about, his older brother–who Allen had found out was their reclusive Housewarden.

It’s a little hard to detect this child’s intentions because he’s a robot. But he seems okay. I like him better than Riddle

Again, what is your beef with Riddle?

He’s snobby

Allen pulled out the small rulebook Riddle gave him, the one for the Queen’s guests, and handed it to Ortho.

“This is the rulebook for ‘The Queen’s Guests,’ I’m guessing it means the Housewarden’s guests. It might tell you a little about the party, you can borrow it if you want and then give it back to me once you’re done reading it.”

Ortho’s eyes widened–a little shocked–before he seemed to become cheery, “Wonderful! I’ll give this back later.” Ortho flew away after that, (how was this guy levitating??), and Allen turned around and left for Ramshackle.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Bro I have literally nothing to wear,” Yuu groaned as he looked at the clothes the ghosts managed to find across Ramshackle. Allen grimaced when he saw the chewed up ties (grim’s fault likely) and the worn out t-shirts that you couldn’t tell if the original color was white or just a tanish beige.

“So maybe, don’t wear the Ramshackle clothes…”

“Wow, you think? What a genius,” Yuu sarcastically remarked.

Allen picked up the cleanest t-shirt in the pile and stared at it.

Nanika, could you turn this into a red blouse?

On it

“This’ll work.”

Yuu stared at Allen, “You’re kidding me right? I can’t wear this to a formal event!” Allen shrugged, “You’ll see.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“You’ll see.”

 ♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“You have shoes right?” Allen asked. Nanika took a little more time to make shoes, so it might be a problem if Yuu doesn’t have any. Fortunately, Yuu nodded.

“I have the shoes from when I came here, luckily I was wearing plain black sneakers. They’ll probably be fine. I also have white pants from when I came here too.”

Allen paused, “White pants? Don’t the ceremonial robes include black pants? I don’t think white is a part of the official school colors.”

“It isn’t! Funny story actually, for some reason—probably because I’m from another world—I only had the top part of the ceremonial robes, so like I didn’t actually have the black pants. I just had these white pants I was wearing to a party. When Crowley found me, he was all like ‘why aren’t you in proper attire?!’ and acting crazy.”

Huh, that’s weird

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I didn’t have that problem

Guess you’re just lucky

Did you make the red blouse?

Yup, here you go

“Uh, Allen,”

“Yeah?”

“Why did the crusty t-shirt turn into a new-looking red blouse? And why is it floating?”

“You’re just seeing things.”

“Are you gaslighting me?”

“I don’t know what that means.”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Allen looked in the mirror, he’d just gotten changed into his attire. He was invited to a formal event after all, by Heartslabyul’s Housewarden no less, he didn’t want to embarrass Riddle by looking under dressed. Apparently they all had formal outfits for the dorm members, hopefully he doesn’t stick out too much.

He was wearing black, wide legged formal pants that flared a little at the end and had white lining at the bottom. His pants also had two miniature blue bows on each side of his thighs. His top was a creme boat neck blouse that had a semi open back and tied into a bow at the back. The blouse had sleeves that cuffed at his wrists, with a blue ribbon tied where it cuffs. Allen was also given a white rose pin that was partially painted red, a light blue shawl, a black alice headband, and a peter pan collar. And to match the blue theme, he decided to wear a darker blue necklace and some blue heels.

You know, Heartslabyul’s colors are red and black. Why are you wearing blue? Yuu is also wearing red

I don’t know, this is just what the Queen’s guests are supposed to wear. I think Yuu is Ace and Deuce’s plus one, not invited by Riddle, so maybe his outfit is supposed to be different

Doesn’t this mean you’ll be the only one at the whole Unbirthday Party wearing blue

….fuck

Hehe

Don’t hehe me.

Allen decided not to wear his usual headband, because the outfit came with one, but he still wants to wear the beads in his hair.

Put your hair in a side bun with longer pieces of hair sticking out below it, so it looks like a side pony tail but with a bun

I was just gonna put it in a pony tail, but that works

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Damn Allen,” Yuu whistled, “you clean up nice!” Yuu smiled at him and gave him a thumbs up.

“Myeh, you don’t look as good as the Great Grim though,” Grim proudly boasted his red and black bow tie, puffing out his chest. Allen thinks he saw one of the ghosts carrying that around. Yuu and Grim are matching now, it was a nice pair.

Nanika herself matched with Allen–though no one would see her–she wore her hair in a high pony tail and had a matching alice headband with him. And she wore a light blue top with long flowy sleeves and a white apron overall dress on top, with black mary janes.

Matching seems like a cute idea, so I'll match colors with you. But I am DEFINITELY wearing a pink dress next time

I still don’t get why you want to dress up

Because I haven’t in a long time

Hmm…..since Grim is matching with Yuu, what if I–

No. No, no, no. Do NOT match with her, please.

I don’t get your problem with her

She’s trying to steal you away from me!

She’s just a baby

An EVIL baby!

Whatever

“Chara come out please.”

The white wyvern fluttered onto Allen’s shoulder, her spiked tail swishing back and forth. Allen took out a blue ribbon and tied it into a bow around one of Chara’s horns and a blue and black ribbon at the end of Chara’s tail.

Yuu sent Allen a look. Allen threw his hands up in defence, “What? If you and Grim can match, then Chara and I can too.” Yuu shook his head, “Those Heartslabyul guys are gonna have a heart attack at the sight of her.”

“Well,” Allen clapped his hands together, “it seems we’re all ready now. Shall we head out?”

Notes:

So I think I'm gonna finish the Heartslabyul arc at Chapter 21 or Chapter 22. I'm planning on Chapter 17 being the Unbirthday nonsense with meeting Chen'ya, and then Chapter 18 being the Trey confrontation with some extra tidbits from my OCs. Chapter 19-22 I'm planning on making the whole Overblot fiasco with the aftermath. It might not end up like this, but this is what I'm gonna try to make it be like. So don't worry, Heartslabyul arc will finally be done soon. It'll prob take me like the entirety of October to finish Heartslabyul if I like lock in.

ALSO GUESS WHO DREW ALLEN'S UNBIRTHDAY PARTY OUTFIT?? MEMEMEMEEEE. I'm gonna like post the pic prob in the next chapter or after I draw like a quick sketch of Yuu and Nanika's outfits. I might attempt drawing Chara with the bows, but I'm rlly bad at drawing any animal, so it might not work out.

But also, any guesses on what Disney character Yvez and Flaun are based on????????

Chapter 18: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟳 🌹🌹

Summary:

The gang meets up at Heartslabyul for the Unbirthday Party and Allen drops some knowledge on them that leaves them all frustrated. Luckily, Allen has a solution! But said solution leaves Cater with a new perspective of who Allen Zilck is.

Notes:

Okay, so my plan was to finish the whole Unbirthday Party stuff in this chapter, but uh....that didn't work. Hopefully, I'll finish it next chapter (crossing my fingers) because I yapped a lot in this chapter. I wanted to add a second perspective, like an outsider view on Allen. Because in the future, I am definitely going to write Allen as more of an unreliable narrator, it doesn't seem that obvious right now, but trust me, Allen is NOT gonna be a reliable narrator.

Also, Allen's Unbirthday Party design is here!! (p.s. I used a base to help me draw the basic body outline. but i drew the whole outfit, hair, and face myself)
This is the Tumblr link: https://www. /cloudyydreamer/797083433588359168/unbirthday-party-card?source=share
Let me know if that doesn't work. I'll also try adding it as a chapter by itself, just in case some people can't use Tumblr or anything (idk if that's a thing).

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Ace and Deuce said they’d meet them at Heartslabyul’s entrance. As Allen entered through the mirror, his eyes widened, taking in the scenery. Lush greenery with blooming roses, and elaborately designed buildings. The place seemed lively, and a little chaotic with how much, muchness was there.

This place is so much better than Ignihyde!

It’s definitely more……..everything

Why didn’t we get sorted here? The red matches me perfectly

I don’t think that’s how it works

“Yuu! Allen!” Ace waved them over. Allen looked at Ace and Deuce, who seemed to be wearing the Heartslabyul dorm uniforms. Somehow Yuu seemed to match with them more. Allen sweatdrops as he looks around, there’s barely any blue!

I feel out of place

I bet Riddle is targeting you!

Nanika he invited me here, why would he target me?

Discrimination?

“You look nice,” Deuce’s face was tinted a slight pink as he sheepishly referred to Allen’s outfit.

“The new hairstyle suits you,” Ace points to Allen’s hair, “what’s with the beads though? You always wear them.” Allen looked at Ace in suspicion, was Ace insulting his accessories? Ace, who seemed to have figured out what Allen was thinking immediately tried clarifying himself.

“Not that they’re bad looking! It’s just that you always have them on.” Ace threw his hands up.

Allen played with a strand of his hair that had the beads before letting it go, “They have sentimental value. My……sister thought the design was nice. She gave them to me before she left.” Ace, Deuce, and Yuu all shared a look before collectively nodding. Deuce patted Allen’s shoulder in sympathy, as if trying to comfort him. Allen sent him a questioning look, what was he doing? Allen suddenly feels like there's been a misunderstanding here.

Bro you phrased that sentence wrong

What do you mean? Alluka gave the beads to me before she left with Killua

Yeah but they don’t know that

So?

Nanika couldn’t make proper facial expressions, but for some reason, when Allen turned to look at Nanika’s presence next to him, he felt judged.

Don’t look at me like that

Like what

Like I’m dumb

“Woah! Who’s the new kid?” Cater popped up from behind the roses with a paintbrush in hand. That was weird, why was he holding a paint brush? Allen looked at the roses and saw a thick red substance dripping from them.

Is he painting the roses?

I take it back, this dorm is weird as fuck

“New kid?” Allen looked around, it was the same people as always, him, Yuu, Ace, Deuce, and Grim.

“Wait a minute….” Cater stepped a little closer to Allen, “OMG is that Allen?! Talk about a glow up in a short time, you look SO much better without the hair in your face!” Allen stepped back a little, overwhelmed by Cater’s animated reactions. Allen deadpanned, did Cater just realize it was him? He has the same hair color and height as before!

I swear people are over doing the whole ‘unrecognizable’ thing

I promise, they are not

“Your eyes are like, super pretty you know? The mirror should’ve placed you in Pomefiore,” Cater sighed.

“Hey! Hands off my other henchman!” Grim jumped at forwards, Ace and Deuce nodded. “Yeah, personal space man,” Ace glared a little at Cater in caution. Cater threw his hands up, “I get it, I get it, you freshies are so protective it’s cute.”

Cater’s presence seems off. I can’t pick up any energy from him. Even if it’s the tiniest bit of nen, all living things have some

I know, he seems…..hollow?

“Diamond-san….you seem different,” Allen looked a little closer at Cater, yes it seemed his suspicions were right, “is this really your body?” It felt like a mimic of Cater’s actual presence. A very close mimic, like it was practically a clone—it was too detailed to be simply an illusion after all.

Cater paused, closing his mouth. He looked at Allen incredulously, his eyes widened in shock before he quickly put on the mask he wore around others—yes Allen noticed the little facade Cater kept up, it wasn’t easy to pick up on the hints. Cater was good at hiding, but Allen was better.

“You’re really observant huh Allen,” Cater looked at Allen–in suspicion a little–and muttered something, “it’s a little scary.” The last bit brought a tiny smile to Allen’s face. It’s not like he enjoys scaring people, don’t get him wrong, but it does feel a little nice to have your talents acknowledged. Especially when–according to his classmates in math–most of the school population thinks he’s stupid.

“Huh? What are you two talking about?” Yuu looked between Cater and Allen. A second ‘Cater’ then appeared, shocking the group (minus Allen).

“What?! I didn’t know you had a twin Cater-senpai!” Deuce stared at the second Cater. And then a third ‘Cater’ came out as well.

“Not twins!” The third ‘Cater’ laughed. Ace seemed a little confused, “Not twins? Wait a minute, Allen said that one wasn’t really Cater..” A light bulb lit up in Ace’s head, “So these are clones?!”

Did not expect him to figure that out

I guess Ace is smarter than we gave him credit for. He does seem to be street smart, and he’s adept at card tricks. The amount of times we caught him cheating at uno during our sleepover at Ramshackle…

I’ll add +1 point for being not complete hopeless

Why is there a point system??

Shhh, you’ll find out later

“Myah?! Which one’s the real Cater then?!” Grim was about to go poke one of the clones but was held back by Yuu.

“That would be me!” A fourth Cater–the real one this time–stepped into the group’s sight, the other clones vanishing when he did. “It’s my Unique Magic, I can create clones of myself, it really helps get the job done around Heartslabyul. Pretty sweet huh?”

“And Allen, still using honorifics huh? I thought we were closer than that,” Cater sighed dramatically, feigning hurt. They were not closer than that actually, Allen barely knew the guy, and what he did know, called for a bit of caution. Allen sweatdropped at Cater’s theatrics, perhaps the guy would be fit for acting?

“You could eat double–no triple–the amount of food!” Grim sounded excited at the thought. Allen didn’t know if food was the first thought he’d have if that was his nen ability. It definitely seemed useful, a little dangerous if he was being honest—these clones seem to have their own conscience after all.

“Of course your mind goes to food,” Ace rolled his eyes.

“Hey what’s that supposed to mean?”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Oh, can I see the tart you guys made for the Unbirthday Party?” Allen asked Ace.

“Right you never saw the one we made for the Unbirthday party,” Ace started, “because you spent the whole time lost in the Botanical Gardens and only showed up to eat the one we made for ourselves.” Allen felt an arrow strike through his chest, he wasn’t that bad at directions. They were just confusing!

“S’not my fault,” Allen huffed. Deuce chuckled and Yuu grinned.

Ace took out the tart, and Allen felt bad for him once he was what kind of tart it was. This wouldn’t be good. And he only knows this because he extensively looked over the guest rulebook Riddle gave him.

“Um, Ace?”

“What?”

“You can’t bring a chestnut tart to an Unbirthday.”

“....”

“What.”

Ace blinked. Allen looked at Ace with sympathy. The poor boy clearly spent a long time making it as an apology.

Cater looked at Allen, “What are you talking about?” Allen turned towards Cater, “It’s against rule number 562. I think Riddle might get mad if you show it to him.” Cater started muttering something under his breath, this time it was so quiet, even Allen couldn’t hear. Which was a notable feat considering he was an assassin.

“Are you kidding me? There’s a rule for what kind of fucking tart you can’t bring?” Yuu looked at Allen in shock and frustration. Yuu did go out of his way to help Ace, it made sense he was angry as well. “This is crazy!” Ace hissed, now what was the guy supposed to do? He couldn’t remake the tart, the Unbirthday party was about to start soon!

Deuce was equally frustrated, but he seemed torn between being angry like Ace and Yuu, or conforming to the rules. According to what Allen’s noticed so far, Deuce seems to want to be a good student or something along the lines of that. And Grim also seemed mad, but mostly because he didn’t want to waste good food. Which was–again–understandable.

Allen looked at his friends. They’d worked so hard, it wasn’t fair for them to be so upset because they overlooked a rule.

(in the back of his mind, a small voice in Allen’s head was telling him they deserved it for not being prepared. his father always said to be ready for anything, and his mother drilled rules of a variety of cultures into him. to make sure he was perfect. anything to pretend he was normal. anything to pretend he wasn’t a monster.)

Ally, what are you thinking about?

Hmm, I think I should help? But I can’t get it myself, then they’ll question how I did it so fast. And I don’t trust Cater just yet.

Make the snake do it

Nanika! You can’t call Chara a snake, she’s a wyvern

They all look the same

That sounds extremely racist

You know what I mean! And racism is a term used by people. Why would I be racist? I hate all people the same no matter what they look like. No discrimination here.

….

“Chara,” Allen called out to the wyvern who was following behind him. Chara waved her little tail, which had the matching blue ribbon, and looked at Allen. He felt a little bad for making her run errands, but this was the fastest way. He’d give her a reward when she came back. Perhaps extra blood, it had been a little since Chara last fed anyways. Maybe he’d try feeding he some of his nen aura.

Allen took out some madol and gave it to Chara, who wrapped her tail around the madol to secure it. “Be a dear and get us two strawberry tartlets from Sam’s store please.”

“Allen?” Ace looked at Allen in confusion. Allen then noticed all of their eyes were on him.

“The tartlets are smaller than a whole tart would be, and Sam’s tartlets are a little small, so they might not be the size Riddle would require, but it should be enough for today. Hopefully.”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Cater has noticed some things about the Ignihyde enigma, Allen Zilck. The boy was reserved, a little quiet, but seemed a little brighter when talking with his friends. Allen was clearly smart, much smarter than a normal freshman would be. Apparently he was in one of Riddle’s advanced classes.

But something else. Allen was observant, to an almost terrifying extent. He only spent a couple minutes around Cater’s clone, and Allen was somehow able to tell it wasn’t really his body? Yeah, that wasn’t normal. And Allen also didn’t trust people easily. Cater may have joked about it, but as an experienced pretender, Cater could tell what kind of hidden emotions people were harboring sometimes. It was a very useful skill, came in handy a lot. And a prominent emotion Cater saw in Allen, was caution.

Like Allen believed people, other than his friends, were out to get him. Like Allen was used to being on guard, and fighting back. That, also wasn’t normal.

What Cater didn’t understand was how the idiot trio and a cat with arsonist tendencies managed to bypass that level of suspicion.

But those were all characteristics you could expect from a Night Raven College student. Intelligence and caution were common, and being reserved tied into Allen being from Ignihyde.

And there was one last detail. One that didn’t fit the same pattern. One that Allen was exemplifying right now.

Compassion.

Night Raven College was a school where people looked out for themselves. Survival of the fittest. Sure you had friends, but most people wouldn’t go out of their way to help someone else, even if it was a friend. Yet here Allen Zilck was, helping Ace Trappola—a certified dumbass—who didn’t even belong to the same dorm as him.

Allen just, whipped out his wyvern—which by the way, was still crazy for Cater to wrap his head around—and told her to grab two tartlets to try and solve Ace’s problem. Nobody asked him to, nobody even alluded to it. And nobody else tried to do it themselves. They were all just angry at the rules, but Allen went out, and tried to help.

Cater looked back at Allen, in a bit of a new light. Sometimes, Cater wondered if Allen really was an NRC student. He then looked at Ace, and couldn’t help but think that Ace was lucky to have someone like Allen at NRC.

Because Allen Zilck was so clearly an enigma. And Cater doesn’t quite know what to make of him.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Why are they all looking at me like that?

I think I’ve lost count of just the number of times you’ve asked me that

I’m literally being nice, why are they staring

Exactly, you’re being nice

????

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Chara will be back in a little, she flies fast, don’t worry.”

“Did you just–” Ace gaped at Allen, “...what do I owe you for this?”

Allen tilted his head in confusion. Why would Ace owe him something? Allen was under the impression that when people did things for their friends, it wasn’t a favor?

“You don’t?” Allen stared at Ace, maybe it really was the culture difference. “You’re my friend, why would you owe me something? I’d do the same for either Deuce or Yuu.”

“That’s…” Deuce looked at Allen. Yuu seemed less shocked than the others, thank god, but he just grinned stupidly, “Finally admitting that we’re friends huh?”

Ace rubbed his neck, a pink hue creeping up on it. He looked at Allen with a face Allen didn’t recognize, “You’re so weird man.”

Notes:

Allen: *uses compassion and being a nice person*
Ace: what is this......do it again
--
Allen: oh you're def a clone
Cater: HOW DOES HE KNOW WHAT I AM???? *insert baffled noises*
--

I'm so glad I got this chapter done, I think I'm genuinely super attached to Allen as a character now. I love writing him, it's so much fun. Also, for anyone who's wondering why Allen only uses honorifics on some of the characters, it depends on Allen's comfortability level with them. Same with the other characters. Like in the beginning, I think Ace, Deuce, and Yuu referred to Allen as either Zilck-senpai or Zilck-san when they found out he was a freshman like them. But now they just call him Allen. Because they got closer and didn't feel the need to add honorifics. (i'm sorry if that's not how they actually work, not tryna be offensive). And if anyone has noticed so far, Allen referring to Riddle in the beginning as Rosehearts-senpai, changed to just Riddle......who knows, maybe that will shock some Heartslabyul students in the future (*cough* it will *cough*). And Allen's suspicion towards Cater is why Cater is referred to with his last name and honorifics, because the two havn't interacted much, the same will happen with Trey at first.

Again, here's the Tumblr link for Allen's Unbirthday design if you didn't see it in the notes at the beginning: https://www. /cloudyydreamer/797083433588359168/unbirthday-party-card?source=share

I didn't fully draw Allen's face because I'm lazy. So don't come at me. Also just saying, I used a drawing base for this, you'll see what base I used in the Tumblr post.

Did you guys like Cater's perspective snippet? I think I might to more of other character perspective bits in the future chapters too.

Chapter 19: 【 ᴀʟʟᴇɴ'ꜱ ᴏꜰꜰɪᴄɪᴀʟ ᴜɴʙɪʀᴛʜᴅᴀʏ ᴘᴀʀᴛʏ ᴅᴇꜱɪɢɴ 】

Summary:

I finally figured out how to upload a picture in an ao3 chapter (turns out I was using the wrong kind of link) so here you go! I'm kind of proud of this drawing ngl

Chapter Text

Okay so, in case anyone can't access the Tumblr link, here's what Allen's Unbirthday party outfit looks like. I think I did a decent job at describing it how I drew it in the chapters, but I know some people (myself included) need a visual.

I also used a base for the main outline of the body and to help with the pose. I wanted the outfit to resemble Alice's from Alice in Wonderland because that's what Disney movie Heartslabyul is based on, and because Allen is an outsider, just like Alice is an outsider. Also I feel like blue j just matches Allen more than the Heartslabyul red would. I think Allen is more cool-toned than warm-toned. But I also didn't want to make the outfit too much, since that wouldn't match Allen's personality.

Quick Info:

  • Heartslabyul’s Alice Uniform is given to guests invited to Unbirthday Parties or other Heartslabyul events by the ‘Queen’
  • The 'Queen’ is just the Housewarden
  • They are regarded as the Housewarden’s esteemed guests
  • And usually, there are tests the Housewarden gives to potential guests to see if they match their standards
  • Because 'Alice’s’ are always outsiders and outsiders don’t usually understand customs
  • If the Alice passes the test, then the Vice Housewarden hand delivers the uniform to the Alice

Fun Facts:

  • The original Alice uniform didn’t have heels for the shoes, but Riddle noticed Allen usually wore shorter heels with his school uniform (like Vil does), and used his magic to modify the shoes (it doesn’t break a rule)
  • Allen is around 5'9/5'10 without the heels, and the heels are 2-3 inches tall, so Allen is around 5'11/6'0 with the heels (i think 180cm)
  • Nanika forced Allen to let her paint his nails and do eyeshadow

Notes:

I may or may not have forgotten to add the little strands of white in Allen's hair from his first concept design.....but that's okay, who cares. I've been thinking of drawing Yuu as well, but idk if I should make Yuu have black hair or brown hair. Because Yuu obviously won't have like a crazy hair color, since he's from Earth, but I also don't want to make Yuu have blonde or ginger hair since Yuu is Asian and black hair is a dominant gene. Also, if I draw Yuu, should I make Yuu have glasses? I was thinking of doing it, but I'm not sure.

I also drew a rough design of Yvez and Flaun (havn't done Zayd yet), so that will be upcoming! I'll prob publish it when I finish Heartslabyul arc or something.

Chapter 20: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟴🌹🌹

Summary:

Finally time for the Unbirthday Party! Everything that can possibly go wrong, goes wrong. Isn't Allen's luck just wonderful? Allen sure doesn't seem to think so.

Notes:

I am also like halfway finished with the next chapter, and I am proud to say that the Heartslabyul arc will end after the next chapter. I'm so happy. I am definately going to skip some things in the Savanaclaw arc and make it shorter. I think I just had a lot of exterior interactions in this arc and that's why it was so long.

Also I like stole a lot of these lines from the actual in-game script, but I like changed a little to fit the story

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“Woah….who’s that?”

“I think that’s Housewarden’s Alice.”

“Housewarden has never had an Alice before has he?”

“Isn’t that the Ignihyde kid who summoned a wyvern familiar?”

“Damn he’s tall.”

Allen expected this. Really. The outfit he was wearing was made to stand out. But couldn’t these people at least try to make it less obvious that they were staring? To maintain decency? Apparently not.

Ace snickered at Allen’s expense, much to Allen’s chagrin.

Nanika knock Ace down some points in your point system thing

Already on it

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Make way for the Crimson Ruler! Housewarden Rosehearts!” A Heartslabyul student announced. The rest of Heartslabyul cheered in response, but their cheering covered up the slight fear they had for Riddle. Allen almost felt bad for the students, but they weren’t really his problem.

“The roses are red, the table cloths are white. A perfect Unbirthday party.” Riddle inspected each tiny detail, as if one being out of place could throw the whole thing into chaos.

Allen tuned out a lot of the stuff, it seemed too uptight. Riddle didn’t seem like this when they were in class. The shorter boy always had a certain shine to him when they conversed in Practical Magic or when they worked on assignments together. Allen looked at Riddle—really looked at him—and saw a slightly pained expression on Riddle’s face. It was almost as if Riddle didn’t want to be doing any of this.

I still don’t like this guy

“Allen,” Riddle called, snapping Allen out of his daze, “come join me.” Riddle pointed to the seat that was right next to his. Riddle’s chair was bigger, fitting for a Housewarden, and Allen’s chair—though smaller—also had regal patterns, but was blue instead of red. An oddity among the sea of red in the dorm.

“This is my esteemed guest, this Unbirthday Party’s Alice. I expect all of you to treat him with the same respect as you do me!” This time Riddle spoke to the rest of Heartslabyul. Allen’s eyes widened a little at that announcement as he sat down in the chair Riddle intended for him.

“Yes, Housewarden!” The rest of Heartslabyul chanted in unison.

“The outfit looks good on you Allen,” Riddle smiled.

“Thank you Riddle. I hope you don’t mind, but I brought my familiar, Chara.” Upon mention, Chara popped up onto Allen’s lap. Riddle nodded, “That’s fine, she doesn’t break any rules as she’s not a cat. Cats aren’t allowed at formal events.” Allen sipped some of the tea one of the Heartslabyul students poured out for him. It was warm, and tasted quite nice, with an aromatic smell.

The Heartslabyul students around them started to whisper a little.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen Housewarden smile like that.”

“Are they referring to each other without honorifics? On a first name basis too? Who is this kid?”

Riddle seemed a little irritated by the whispers, and realizing that they were still in his presence, the Heartslabyul students smartly shut up.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Uh Housewarden Rosehearts?” Ace stepped up to the table Allen and Riddle were at, holding a box.

“Ah, you’re the freshman who stole my tart.” Riddle’s gaze hardened a little at the memory. Ace winced, they were already off to a bad start. Ace calmed himself though, he had his apology tarts, and they didn’t break any rules, he’ll be fine.

“I wanted to apologize for eating the tart, so I bought a new one to replace it.” Ace held out the box. Riddle’s eyes seemed to soften at that, as if not expecting Ace to remember the rule. Out of curiosity, Riddle leaned forward a little.

“Oh? What kind of tart did you make?”

Ace opened the box, “The whole tarts were expensive so I bought two strawberry tartlets!”

“Hmm, good thing you didn’t bring a chestnut tart,” Riddle looked at the size of the tartlets, “I’m glad you learned your lesson.” Ace seemed to brighten at Riddle’s acceptance of the tarts.

“However, these are a little small, so I’ll expect you to write me a two page essay on why you were wrong and how breaking rules is detrimental to society. I will take your collar off after that”

Ace’s momentary excitement died down and his expression was replaced with a worse look.

“Are you kidding me?” Ace couldn’t hold his anger any longer.

(these rules were suffocating. and considering the fact that he was literally wearing a collar around his neck, he felt pretty suffocated too!)

“Excuse me?” Riddle felt taken aback.

“Yeah excuse you! I’m not writing some stupid essay! I worked super hard trying to make a tart to get this collar off, and then when I brought the tart here, Allen told me a chestnut tart is against some stupid rule! And after Allen goes out of his way to bring us some back up mini-tarts, you decide that isn’t enough?!”

A fire lit up in Ace’s eyes, “I’m done following these stupid rules. It’s a bunch of trash!” Ace hadn’t noticed the slip up about the chestnut tart, but unfortunately, Riddle sure seemed to have caught it.

“You….you brought the chestnut tart here?” Riddle’s voice shook, as he clenched his fists.

“Unbelievable! Chestnut tarts are strictly forbidden from Unbirthday Parties and you still brought it here?! It doesn’t matter that you got rid of it before giving me a tart, you’ve completely ruined an otherwise perfect Unbirthday!”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Soon, it was an all out verbal match between Riddle and Ace. Which then escalated into Deuce joining in on Ace, and then Yuu adding to the fire. Allen didn’t know what to do. On one hand, Riddle was his first friend, who he liked having around. On the other hand, Ace was also his friend, and someone who stuck by him, even knowing he was an assassin.

“Trey…what do we do?” Cater whispered to Trey. The green haired junior seemed to be at a loss himself. Trey was trying to get Ace to apologize, but Ace wasn’t having it.

“Since I’ve been Housewarden, not a single student from Heartslabyul has been held back or expelled. I have the highest marks, and I am the strongest. This means I’m most correct, so what I say is law in Heartslabyul!”

“But that’s not right!” Deuce agreed with Ace.

Allen stared at Riddle. The same pained expression Riddle had earlier—Allen could see it on him now. Riddle didn’t want to do this. So why was he? What Riddle was saying…..sort of reminded him of his mother. She’d try to control everything, and say she knew what was best. And clearly, Riddle was wrong. Because he was hurting the Heartslabyul students, and he was hurting Ace and Deuce. Why couldn’t Riddle see that?

“C’mon guys,” Cater tried to deescalate the situation, “let’s all just say ‘Yes Housewarden’ and be done with it.” But his efforts failed, Ace and Deuce shook their heads.

“Not all rules are meant to be followed, especially crazy, random ones like this! And being Housewarden doesn’t mean you get to abuse your power,” This time it was Yuu who was fueling the fire.

“Please, you’re a magicless student who the Headmage graciously let attend this school, despite your prior transgressions. To not understand how bad breaking a rule is, you were clearly born to parents who could barely use magic, and lacked in proper education. I pity you.”

“You asshole..” Deuce cracked his knuckles and glared at Riddle, fully prepared to jump him.

“SHUT THE HELL UP!” Ace threw one of the tartlets at Riddle’s face. “Who the hell are you to talk bad about somebody’s parents?!”

Okay nevermind, I like Ace a lot better now.

This isn’t good. Nanika something bad is about to happen

“How dare you–” Riddle wiped the smushed tartlet off his face and pointed his scepter at the three freshmen. “OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Breaking the rules will throw the order of everything into chaos! Why can’t any of you see that? I’m doing this to help you!” Riddle yelled, his face red. “Allen! You agree with me don’t you?”

Please don’t get involved

“I’m sorry Riddle, I understand where you’re coming from,” Allen stood up and walked towards Ace, Deuce, and Yuu, “but you went too far on that comment on Yuu. Can’t you see that while you’re trying to uphold the rules for the sake of your students, you’re actually hurting them?”

And you get involved. Of course. Dammit.

Allen pointed to the crowd of Heartslabyul students, who all seemed terrified of Riddle.

“You know what, that freshie’s right! I can’t take this anymore!” One of said terrified students grabbed a pastry and threw it at Riddle’s head.

“Heh, ahahaha!” This seemed to break Riddle, “You can’t take this anymore? Fine! Then it’ll just be off with all of your heads!”

Collars began forming around a majority of the Heartslabyul students.

“Riddle stop!” Trey’s words fell on deaf ears. Suddenly, the collars disappeared, transforming into playing cards. Cater looked around in shock, “This is…Trey’s UM? But how?”

“I can rewrite anything, so I overwrote Riddle’s magic with mine,” Trey explained.

“Woah! That’s powerful,” Grim exclaimed.

That seems a little broken

Yeah, definitely

“Ugh, no! Off with your heads! I said OFF WITH YOUR HEADS!” Riddle tried and failed as playing cards kept coming from his scepter. “Why isn’t this working?!”

“Riddle, you need to stop! If you keep using your magic you’ll overblot!” Trey desperately tried reasoning with Riddle. Allen wondered if the two were close before coming to NIght Raven College.

“Hah, so you are also going against me Trey? You and Allen both, I thought you two understood…..I've been enduring for so long, and still!”

Nanika, do you sense that?

That energy.. is similar to nen, but it's dark. Like it has malice behind it

It’s a little like Illumi’s, but it seems different. It doesn’t seem like Riddle can control it

You don’t think….

I think Riddle is going to overblot

Fuck

“I am….I AM RIGHT! Absolutely, definitely CORRECT!”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Allen didn’t know what to do. Was he wrong to have stood up to Riddle, and siding against him? No, he couldn’t be. Allen saw what the rules were doing to people. He heard people at lunch tense up when Riddle walked by. He saw his classmates gossip and seemed visibly exhausted when mentioning how they have to tip tow around their own Housewarden.

And now, Heartslabyul is a mess.

The rose trees, dark and twisted. The tables of food all flipped over and scattered across the ground. The sky turned dark, as clouds came in.

Riddle seemed to have transformed into something darker. A gigantic inky figure with a glass head loomed over him. And Riddle—who isn’t in the right frame of mind—is currently trying to kill Ace.

Trey was doing his best to rewrite Riddle’s magic, but he struggled to keep up with Riddle before he overblotted, now that Riddle’s this dark, inky monster, he’s having a very hard time keeping it up.

And the rest of the Heartslabyul students were scattered, either trying to escape or actively avoid the thorned vines Riddle seemed intent on butchering them with.

“does….overblot mean?” Allen heard a bit of what Deuce asked Cater.

“In short terms, he's in super berserker mode! And if we don’t get him out of it, then he could die!”

Riddle could die.

He could die.

Die.

The words twisted on Allen’s tongue, feeling disgusting. Allen has killed people before, many people in fact. But Allen doesn’t want Riddle to die. He doesn’t want any of these people to die.

So when a vine shot out towards Ace, who stumbled back, and Trey couldn’t use his magic in time to save him, Allen knew exactly what he was going to do.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Ace closed his eyes, accepting what was coming to him. In truth, Ace was terrified. He didn’t want to die. Was he way in over his head with this whole thing?

But then nothing came. And Ace opened his eyes back up, feeling a shadow fall on his face before him.

Loose silky black hair fell before him, belonging to a tall figure, a silhouette Ace’s recognized.

“...Allen?”

Dual colored eyes, that Ace just noticed shined like gems, looked back at him. Ace didn’t know why, he should’ve felt scared with the aura surrounding Allen, but Ace felt comforted in a weird sense. Like he knew Allen would be able to protect him. At first Ace was a little worried, and then he saw Allen’s finger nails sharpen, veins bulging in his hand, as he effortlessly chopped up another vine heading his way.

Oh right. Allen’s an assassin.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Nobody saw Allen move. Yet in a matter of seconds—no, milliseconds—the boy was in front of Ace, and the vine was split in half, falling to the ground in front of him.

Allen moved swiftly, and so fast, that Yuu could barely keep track of his movements. Allen cut all the vines headed towards them.

“You! You were supposed to stand by me, instead….you chose them?!” Riddle’s enraged voice went up a pitch, and this time he directed his ire towards Allen. Then Riddle shot out a spell at him.

Allen dodged carefully and ran forward, jumping and dodging as more attacks came his way.

“Why can’t you just, stay still!” Riddle threw spell after spell, his attacks getting more erratic, becoming frustrated as none of them came in contact with Allen.

Then, Allen started walking in a pattern, and suddenly more versions of him appeared. And Riddle didn’t know which one to attack.

Now, Cater was confused. Did Allen just copy his ability? No, those looked like illusions!

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Riddle shot a vine out at one of the Allen’s, it poofed away, not the real one. Using the misfire as a distraction, Allen suddenly appeared next to Riddle. Allen kicked Riddle’s body a good couple feet away, making the overblotted Housewarden crash into a tree. The tree split in half due to the force of impact.

Ally, do you need my help?

No, I can do this alone, but if you could make sure the rest of the Heartslabyul's students don't get hurt, that would be helpful. And get Chara away from here, she might go into a frenzy if she smells all the blood. And she hasn't had a proper feeding yet, she's too weak to fight.

I understand.

Great

Oh and Ally?

Yes?

Kick his ass

This time Allen broke out into a grin, “I will.”

Notes:

I kinda skipped Chenya and the whole cornering Trey in the library, so Ace was more mad at Riddle because he also didn't know Riddle's backstory. I wanted to depict Allen as someone who intervenes when ppl he cares about are in harms way, so he only really does things when Ace, Deuce, or Yuu get hurt/insulted. Bro my action writing skills are not working rn.......I legit could barely figure out how to write fight scenes. They get even more cringey and stupid next chapter so uh.....be prepared!

The abilities Allen uses in this chapter:

"he saw Allen’s finger nails sharpen, veins bulging in his hand," -- this is a reference to the technique the Zoldycks use to rip out someone's heart. Allen is manipulating his body to do this.

"Allen started walking in a pattern, and suddenly more versions of him appeared." -- this is a reference to the Rythm Echo that assassins can use to create the illusion to their opponent that there are multiple of them. this illusion works by creating a specific sound in your movement and steps and doing it in a pattern. Allen does this to confuse his opponents and distract them.

Chapter 21: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟵🌹🌹

Summary:

Allen beats up an Overblotted Riddle and then gets reinvited to the Unbirthday Party!

Notes:

I DID IT!! I FINALLY FINISHED WRITING THE HEARTSLABYUL ARC! I'm legit so happy, thank you to everyone who's been commenting on this fic, they rlly helped me write this far. Because trust me, for ppl who've somehow stuck with this fic since chapter 1, the beginning was at a rough start in terms of writing quality......

(I'm planning on re-writing the first couple chapters, js like editing tho, not much change. cuz the grammar sucked)

But this chapter is gonna be longer than most of my chapters becuz it's like the ending of the Heartslabyul arc and I rlly didn't wanna drag this on for much longer. Trust, Savanaclaw will be much shorter, I've been fixing my writing style. I think this chapter is like 3.6k words or sum.

I'd also like to specially thank NobodyJustNo, Anume, and UltimaOwner1 for commenting so frequently on my chapters and/or giving me feedback!! I loved opening up my Inbox and seeing notification!!

“Did he just kick Housewarden into a fucking tree?!” Ace wheezed, his eyes not comprehending what just happened. The others were in the same shock he was.

“That’s my Henchman!” Grim cheered.

“What are they feeding you freshmen? You’re all crazy!” Cater felt exasperated. Trey was about to ask the same thing. Being advanced was one thing, but Allen was on a whole other level. Trey’s eyes narrowed, just who was this kid?

“Nice! Allen has got to teach me that some time!” Deuce’s eyes shone. Trey sweatdropped, he didn’t know if that was such a good idea.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Riddle got up, a little dizzy. If he was mad before, then he was positively furious now.

Allen faced him, no fear in his eyes. Compared to the training his parents put him through, this wasn’t even anything much. A tree was thrown at Allen, but he didn’t dodge this time.

“Allen, look out!” Cater called out to him. But Allen paid him no mind and simply extended his aura and strengthened his Ten. Riddle’s attack didn’t have any nen behind it, so it wouldn’t do him any damage. The vine flew off Allen, not even scratching him.

“How?!” Riddle grew increasingly frustrated. And now just started throwing a random barrage of attacks at him. In Riddle’s bout of anger, he decided to attack the others as well, as if just noticing they were there. That’s when Allen’s eyes widened, he cursed under his breath.

I’ve been so focused on fighting Riddle, I forgot the others were here too. I can’t protect them while fighting against Riddle at the same time!

Riddle, who seemed to have read Allen’s mind, smirked as he pointed his scepter towards yet another who defied him, Yuu. “If you all had just listened to me, none of this would be happening!”

Allen reached out, trying to get to Yuu fast enough, but he didn’t react quick enough.

The spell hit Yuu, knocking him back a little against a tree.

“Yuu!” The others called out in worry. Deuce ran to Yuu’s side, trying to help him. And Grim looked so scared. Trey and Cater were trying to calm the crowd of Heartslabyul students and help them evacuate. It was just Allen, Ace, and Deuce now. No teachers, just them, against Riddle’s seemingly never ending magic. Which they needed to put a stop to, before Riddle died.

Blood started pouring from the top of Yuu’s head, and Yuu lazily blinked his eyes open before looking at Allen. Yuu coughed heavily, and blood spattered onto the palm of his hand. His body shook before losing consciousness in Deuce’s arms. Deuce shook Yuu violently, trying to get Yuu to wake up. His efforts were fruitless.

Ace looked like he was about to throw up, an expression on his face as if the gravity of the situation just dawned on him. And Grim was next to Yuu, trying to wake his ‘henchman’ up.

That’s enough.

A large amount of aura burst out of him, anger and malice put behind it. It wasn’t the normal white aura Allen had been using, but this one was dark, and large, covering the entirety of the dorm.

Ace’s throat started to dry up a little due to the tension and pure anger in the air. He fell to his knees, not able to stand.

“How dare you….hurt my friend?”

Riddle faltered, trying to hold himself up against the sheer aura directed at him. But he caught himself and threw another spell at him.

But Allen didn’t bat an eye, and simply….turned into a pile of petals?

“What just happened?” Deuce asked, looking at Ace for answers, but Ace didn’t know either.

Allen appeared above the giant inky monster.

“Is he holding a fucking scythe?!”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

A large scythe made of petals formed in Allen’s hand as he appeared above the inky giant. Allen channeled a large amount of aura into the scythe as he swung against the giant’s glass head. The head shattered on impact, liquid ink pouring out of it and falling to the ground. Allen fell too.

The scythe in Allen’s hands dispelled into petals and surrounded him, helping him reach the ground safely.

“NOO!! If I’m wrong….then what did I suffer for? Why…” Riddle looked at his hands, shaking, before losing consciousness and falling to the ground. The ink monster’s body started breaking apart, and was about to crush Riddle.

“Allen, you need to run!” Ace called out, trying to get to Allen in time and yank him away before the impact of the monster hitting the ground crushed Allen as well. But of course, Allen didn’t listen to his friend’s pleas. Because all he had on his mind right now was Riddle.

Sure Allen was mad at him for hurting Yuu. But Riddle was also one of his friends. And he wasn’t about to let one of his friends die. Not after Allen worked so hard to try and save him.

What was the point of saving people, if you let one person die?

(he’s an assassin, he isn’t meant to save people. what is he doing in this place?)

So Allen ran forward, despite Ace and Deuce shouting for him not to, and grabbed Riddle’s hand, pulling the shorter boy backwards. Allen used his body to shield Riddle from the collision, preparing to be impaled.

It’s okay, Nanika, you can heal me can’t you?

I told you to be careful!

But the impaling never came. Instead, as Allen looked up, he saw the remnants of the overblot monster that were supposed to fall on him, float several inches above him and Riddle. Allen looked over to Ace and Deuce, but it wasn’t them who did it.

Allen rolled away from the monster, and stood up, grabbing Riddle with him, and running towards Ace and Deuce.

Then he saw them. Trey and Cater.

But I thought they left? To evacuate the others?

Those two don’t seem like the type to abandon people. I’ll add a couple points for them

The headmage was standing behind them, his magic pen held out.

Oh, that made sense, it was Crowley

So the bird brain is actually able to do things, who would’ve thought he’d be useful for once

Crowley then let what he was holding up fall to the ground. Maybe it’s because Allen’s mind is a little hazy from the fight, but he could’ve sworn that Crowley looked a little cool doing that. It almost didn’t look like it was actually the headmage who saved him.

“Oh my! I can’t believe one of my students overblotted. And on campus too! The news will have a field day with this.”

Nevermind. That was definitely Crowley alright.

Ally, you don’t look good

Just as Allen was about to open his mouth to say something, he felt a ringing noise in his head.

ALLY!

Allen could hear the worried shouts of his friends and Nanika before his body fell and lost consciousness.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Allen woke up and yawned. It had been a while since he got some sleep. Not that he needed it, but he felt a little energized regardless. Allen tries to move his leg and notices his knee is dislocated. That would be annoying to walk on, so Allen just popped it back into place and went on with his day.

Wait a minute.

The overblot!

Memories come back to Allen of what happened at Heartslabyul. Allen looks around to see he’s in the infirmary and quickly gets out of bed and opens the curtains. He sees a second bed.

“Finally up huh?”

That was Yuu’s voice! Allen rushes over to Yuu’s bed.

“Are you better? Does your head still hurt? How injured are you? Do you have a concussion?” Allen listed off questions, trying to make sure Yuu was okay. He doesn’t know the last time he was this worried about somebody. Usually because growing up in an all assassin family, you didn’t need to worry about their safety. If anything then Allen worried for the safety of the people his family came in contact with.

“Yes, yes, I had some stitches, and no,” Yuu answers, not missing a beat. Allen liked that about Yuu, he answered questions quickly.

Allen looked at Yuu, and Yuu stared back at him. They looked at each other for about 3 solid minutes before bursting into laughter. Well, Yuu was more the one laughing and giggling like a maniac. Allen was smiling and chuckling.

“I have no idea how we’re still alive!” Yuu broke out a shit-eating grin

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Yuu! Allen!” Deuce ran up to the both of them when he saw they were standing. After Yuu and Allen finished laughing about their situation, the two ended up seeing Riddle, who was also in the infirmary, but he didn’t have any major injuries like they did.

Ace, Trey, Cater, and Grim joined them soon after.

“I…uh, I have something to say.” Riddle looked down in embarrassment. “I’m so sorry for how I acted before. It was….unbecoming of me.”

“The truth is, I really wanted to eat the chestnut tart you mentioned, and I don’t care whether or not you put sugar or honey in your tea.”

They all stared at Riddle with wide eyes at his confession.

“I thought, following the rules would help everyone. Growing up…..”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Honestly, Allen could relate to Riddle a little. His mother was also like that. But instead of drilling rules into him, she drilled how to be the perfect assassin, obedience, and remaining “proper” into him. But still quite similar.

Ace requested a “Revenge Unbirthday” and Riddle had apologized to Yuu for his insults towards Yuu’s family. So in the end, it was great.

That was, until Professor Crewel walked in on them.

“What are you puppies doing?” Crewel asked them, his words were laced with venom and his eye twitched.

“You!” Crewel pointed a finger towards Yuu.

“That’s my name,” Yuu grinned, he was never going to stop making jokes was he?

Crewel wasn’t amused by said joke.

“You’re supposed to be in bed, you just had stitches done!”

Yuu laughed awkwardly.

“And you,” Crewel turned towards Allen, “how and why are you even walking? You dislocated your knee and your shoulder! You should be in bed right now, or you’ll risk further injury.”

The group turned towards Allen. Allen didn’t walk any differently, so how was his knee dislocated?

“Oh. Yeah I popped my knee back in place,” Allen said nonchalantly, “it’s fine now.”

“What do you mean you just popped it back in place?!” Crewel stared at the boy in exasperation. The freshman puppies this year were too chaotic for their own good. And Crewel assumed Allen was a good pup, not dumb like the rest of them!

“Allen you did what?” Riddle looked at Allen. “You…you’re supposed to get that done by a medical professional!” Riddle’s parents were both famous healers, he knew a thing or two about dislocated bones. And you were most definitely not supposed to pop them back into place by yourself! Or walk on it right after!

Ace grinned, “Why is that exactly what I expected you to do?” Deuce also seemed to hold back a laugh, but stopped smiling when he saw Crewel’s angry face.

Trey sighed and shook his head, and Cater took out his phone and snapped a picture for Magicam. Cater then started recording.

“This is crazy stuff. #HasAllenLostHisMind and #TheFreshiesAreCrazy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Professor Crewel this mad and at a loss for words at the same time.” Cater held his phone up and pointed it at the scene before him.

“Wait, my shoulder is also dislocated? I didn’t notice,” Allen tried to look at his shoulder. He then used his other hand and popped his shoulder back into place.

“There, all better now.”

Yuu fell onto the floor laughing and wheezing, while Crewel looked like he wanted to quit his job.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Riddle awkwardly shifted around as he and Allen sat in the infirmary beds. Yuu was fast asleep, and something told the two that he probably wouldn’t wake up until Professor Crewel came back.

“So–”

“Are you–”

The two stared at each other, blinking.

“You can go first!” Riddle waved his hands. Allen coughed, “Ahem. Uh…are you okay now?”

“Well, I’m not sicken with blot like before, but I suppose.”

Allen nodded, “Good…that's…good.”

Riddle and Allen stared at each other again.

“I would like to apologize for my actions during my overblot!”

“I’m so sorry for knocking you around during your overblot.”

Allen looked at Riddle, and tilted his head. Why was Riddle apologizing? He wasn’t in the right frame of mind, obviously he wasn’t responsible for his actions during his overblot.

“You weren’t thinking clearly, it’s not your fault,” Allen personally didn’t hold anything against Riddle. The guy knows what he did was wrong, and he apologized to Ace and Yuu, and he’s planning to change his ways. From Allen’s point of view, Riddle was all good!

“No,” Riddle shook his head, “even before my overblot, I was a little pushy with you. And you don’t need to apologize for protecting your friends against me.” Riddle seemed hesitant while speaking, like he was worried about something.

“Well yeah that’s true,” Allen told him, “but I was protecting you too.”

Riddle blinked, “Excuse me?”

“Trey said that you would’ve died if we didn’t pull you out of the overblot state. So I was trying to save you too.” Allen thought the answer was obvious, why else would he stay? If Allen didn’t care about Riddle, then he would’ve simply grabbed his friends, and left Heartslabyul. It might not seem like the right course of action, or it might seem cruel or cowardly, but Allen was no saint. He didn’t care about trivial things like that.

“You….why would you?” Riddle gaped. “You were trying to save me? But why would you try to save a random person? You could’ve died!”

Allen tilted his head, “But you're not a random person?”

Does Riddle not see us as friends?

I still dislike the little twerp, but he’s a tiny bit better than he was before

Ah, so it is possible for your opinion to change

It’s a very rare occurrence!

Whatever you say

“I wouldn’t stick my neck out for just anybody,” Allen continued, “I was under the impression that we were friends. Obviously I’d try to—no, obviously I would save you.”

(there was something in the phrasing that made Riddle happy. Allen wouldn’t just try, he’d do it. and from what Riddle remembers from his overblot, Allen was clearly capable of doing anything he put his mind to.)

Riddle was quiet for a little. And Allen was afraid he’d offended the shorter boy.

“Pfft–”

A chuckle escaped Riddle. Which turned into full on laughter.

“You’re really something, huh Allen?” Riddle said.

Allen didn’t know what Riddle was talking about.

What’s with that reaction, what did I say?

More like what didn’t you say

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

After Crewel confirmed they were okay to leave, the rest of the Heartslabyul gang met up with them.

“So Allen, quick question. What was that trick you used to like, chop up all the vines like a fruit ninja?” Ace asked. “Is that your unique magic?”

Allen shook his head.

“No, it’s a family technique. It’s very good at cutting things out, I basically manipulate my body to sharpen my nails into blades. They can cut out someone’s heart.”

“.....how do you know it can do that?”

“Moving on,”

“Wait! You can’t just leave us hanging, explain!”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

It was time for the second Unbirthday Party, the do-over as Riddle told Allen when he invited him back as the dorm’s Alice again.

Well, at least I get to dress up again

Ah yes, since Allen was going to the Unbirthday Party again, Nanika had made it her personal mission to dress him up once again. Luckily, Allen was able to convince Nanika not to make any big changes. All she did was change his hairstyle.

And now Allen was at said Unbirthday Party. Everyone seemed happier, probably because Riddle had finally let up a little on the rules.

Suddenly a flash fell on Allen’s face. He turned to see Cater holding his phone.

“You look #beautiful with your new hairstyle Allen!” Cater looked at the photo he just took and gasped. “No fair you’re so photogenic, I’m jealous.” Cater showed Allen the photo, and Allen had to commend Cater’s photo taking skills.

“We should take a selfie together! Gimme your handle so I can tag you,” Cater threw up a peace sign and took a photo of him and Allen. Allen had a Magicam account, but he just followed his school. He didn’t really post anything. Maybe he should change that. “Here, it’s @allenzNC.” Allen took out his phone to show Cater. The NC stood for Nanika and Chara. Nanika was a little annoyed that Chara's name was in it, but settled when she saw her initials as well.

The Heartslabyul students made way for their Housewarden to arrive.

“The roses are red, the tablecloths are white…..ah no nevermind,” Riddle sheepishly remembered he’d ease up on the rules while he was inspecting the state of the Unbirthday Party.

“You don’t need to make sudden changes, Riddle,” Trey helped him out. Riddle seemed a little embarrassed, but also glad with Trey’s guidance.

“Housewarden, you didn’t forget your promise did you?” Ace walked up to Riddle and crossed his hands over one another. Allen perked up at that. What promise were they talking about?

“Oh do you not remember Allen?” Deuce noticed Allen’s confused face. “Ace made Housewarden promise to bake a strawberry tart by himself for the Unbirthday.”

As if on cue, Riddle coughed and brought out the strawberry tart. It was a little lopsided, but looked pretty good for a first try. Trey inspected it, looking impressed.

“It’s really nice for your first time. You’d probably do better next time,” Trey smiled at Riddle, “when you’re free, how ‘bout you join me in the kitchen for some practice?” Riddle contemplated, but nodded in agreement.

Allen looked between Riddle and Trey. “Is this kind of stuff normal between a couple?”

Ace spit out his tea and started coughing, Deuce turned a shade of red, Cater started laughing, and Riddle and Trey seemed embarrassed. Yuu and Grim……were somewhere stuffing themselves with food. Well, Grim was stuffing himself with food, and Yuu was trying to stop him from getting indigestion. Yuu was also stealing a couple pastries while no one was looking.

“What are you talking about?!” Riddle’s face was red as a tomato, and the heart-shaped strands of his hair were standing up.

I swear, that isn’t natural

I come from a family where people are born with white hair. I don’t think we can talk about natural

“Are you and Trey not dating?”

“No!”

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Bleh! This thing is so salty!” Ace gagged as he spit out the bite of the strawberry tart he ate. Deuce did the same, “It tastes like the sea or something.”

“That’s odd. I followed the exact recipe,” Riddle looked confused, “wait…is it because I added too much oyster sauce?”

“But Trey said all the best bakers add those to their pastries, and the recipe didn’t say how much to add, so I just guessed.”

Trey stared at Riddle before laughing. “I…I can’t believe someone actually believed me!”

Eww, who in their right mind would add oyster sauce to something sweet. I take it back, these people are dumb

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Hey Nanika…is someone watching us?

Hmm, I do feel a pair of eyes. Their presence feels familiar. People we’ve encountered before at this school?

That doesn’t really narrow it down

Use your En

On command, Allen turned on his En and did a scan of the vicinity around them. That’s when he saw them. Two familiar looking people with animalistic features.

There.

♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

“Man, must be nice stuffing your face like that,” Ruggie sighed, “why can’t Savanaclaw do something like this?”

Leona scoffed, “Because we’re not fancy Heartslabyul brats who hold tea parties.”

Ruggie grinned, but then his grin dropped when he looked back at the Unbirthday Party.

“Hey Leona…..is that guy looking at us?”

Leona’s head snapped towards what Ruggie was referring to. There was no way someone could tell they were here, even with heightened senses, him and Ruggie were way too far away. You needed to have some type of monster senses to be able to do that.

And then Leona spotted the familiar dual-colored eyes, pink and blue staring right at him, narrowing. They were daring him to make a move, warning him not to interrupt.

“Heh….of course it’s this brat who spots us,” Leona sneers. “Guess Heartslabyul is his turf now.”

“Hey Ruggie.”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t mess with that brat. And change our plans, leave Heartslabyul out of it.”

“What?” Ruggie blinked. Leona never made sudden changes to his plans, mostly because they were all well thought out, the guy was a freaking genius. But now because of the interference of some freshman, he was telling Ruggie to back off? That’s when Ruggie remembered the kid’s face.

He’s the kid from the Botanical Gardens.

Ruggie felt a shiver run down his spine at the memory. Everything about the boy made him want to run away. The smell of death surrounding him, his weird powers, and the fact that nobody—aside from the little group he seemed to have made—knew anything about him. Even Leona couldn’t dig up anything, and Leona’s a prince!

“Yeah…that’s one kid I don’t want to run into again.”

Notes:

I don't think I'm gonna take a hiatus from writing, but it might be a little while before I update this fic since I need to get in my ideas for the Savanaclaw arc. I'll def update it tho sometime before December. Bro writing this fight scene kinda cringed me out a little, I CANNOT write action for the life of me help.

Also, for twisted wonderland players and ppl who've been in the fandom since like 2020/2022, how do we feel now that the anime is gonna release on October 29?? I'm SO EXCITED to see everyone animated, and like the English VA announcements got me jumping up and down. Becuz Riddle is British??? YESS!!

---

What do y'all think of Allen's Nen Ability? It was hinted to in like the first Chapter that it has something to do with petals. I'm not gonna release much more info abt it yet other than hint in each chapter when characters react to Allen's ability. And yes, it's going to be mistaken for his UM a BILLION times. I think actually a lot of Allen's abilities will be mistaken for his UM.

What type of Nen user do y'all think he is? And also if anyone has any suggestions for his UM (yes he'll have one), pls tell me. Cuz I think I'm running out of ideas.

Notes:

there will be graphic descriptions because allen is an assassin man, he’s killed people and he’s a kid so he’s traumatized. If that bothers you then please DO NOT READ!! Don’t come at me in the comments
