Aomine Daiki and his malicious red kitten

Chapter 4: Attack on pepper

Chapter Text

Daiki was in the kitchen, humming a random melody he had heard in an ad in the television, while Sei prepared to attack the pepper. His tail swung from one side to the other and his ears stayed flat as he hid behind an empty chicken meat package. Seconds later, he jumped onto the vegetable, digging his claws and fangs into it. His weight was enough to push the pepper and cause it to roll, taking Sei with it towards the edge of the counter.

"Watch out", Aomine chuckled, stopping the rolling motion.

"Meow?", Sei struggled for a moment to take his claws out, but then happily sat up next to the victim of his attack and closed his eyes, happy with his win.

"Yeah, good job, you won", Daiki moved the pepper away from the edge and let Sei nudge against his wrist with a silent purr. "Don't touch my hand, you're gonna get olive oil on you."

Sei opened one eye and tilted his head, looking at Daiki with confusion.

"Okay, shoo now", he smiled. "I'm gonna cut onion, so you should step back or you're gonna suffer too."

Sei happily obliged and moved the the edge of the counter where Aomine had placed a chair for him to jump on and off easily. He ran towards the living room and lied down on his spot on the sofa - on his fluffy milky brown pillow that reminded him of his father. Except the pillow wasn't breathing and pushing him off.

Aomine swung his hips around to the rhythm of the music he was humming. Stepping from one foot to the other, he tried saving himself from the cold floor, cursing himself for ditching the socks next to the sofa. His hair was put in a loose ponytail, keeping the strands away from his face while he seasoned the chicken and mixed it with the vegetables to make the stew.

He left some of the chicken unseasoned and fried it separately from the rest for Sei. The kitten was growing quickly and happily accepted all the treats he was being spoiled with.

"I'm almost done", Aomine sniffed from the onion, smiling at the kitten resting on the pillow. Sei raised his head and walked closer. He waited for Daiki to finish and then followed him to the table and jumped onto the chair, then the table. His bowl appeared in front of him soon after and Sei gently sniffed it to check what it was. His ears perked up a little - it smelled like some of the food he remembered from the house his dad lived at. Ah, he wondered if they took his mom and brother back in.

Aomine started eating his own food, but stopped once he saw Sei stare at his with his ears flopped down.

"You don't like it?", he asked. "I can get you your usual food instead..."

Sei lifted his eyes, then looked back at the bowl. He began eating, wondering if his family had something to eat, too. His mom always cared about him and his little brother, always made sure they had something to eat, even if she had none. She was always so thin and weak because of that, so he and his brother fought for her since they could move on their own. Now, his little brother was the only one left. If only Sei could get stronger here and come back to his family, he would be able to protect them.

Once the bowl was empty, Sei walked to Daiki and jumped onto his shoulder, then purred loudly as he rubbed his head onto Aomine's cheek. He sighed, missing his family further. He looked at Daiki, slowly chewing his food, then smacked his cheek with his little paw.

"Ow", Aomine looked at him, offended. Sei huffed and jumped down, returning to his pillow. "That was supposed to be a thank you or something?!"

Sei lifted one ear and opened one eye, but not noticing the human getting mad, he returned to his sleep. Aomine sighed, continuing to eat his food while his phone buzzed. He checked the screen as it lit up with his work email notifications. He unlocked it and checked the inbox.

Title: Report

Good afternoon,
I'm glad we were able to establish a mutual green¹. I am sending you the corrected version of the requested file and I hope the previously sent season² from my private mail did not cause any harm to you. I assure you this situation would not happen splitting point³.

Sincerely,
T. Kagami

¹ green -> connection (緑 and 縁)
² season -> phase (旬 and 句)
³ splitting point -> again (又 and 叉)

Aomine frowned, trying to read the butchered up mail. He found at least three wrong kanji in use and a few more particles being in the wrong places, but other than this, the email even looked kind of professional. Daiki had to spend a lot of will power not to reply with a mean comment about the errors, so instead he only sent a quick «thank you» and continued his meal.

This could have been worse, he sighed over and over again, as he remembered the asshole's annoying grin as Aomine almost got late to work. Maybe he was being prejudiced towards the fork-eyebrows dude, but maybe he deserved it? Just for the sake of these atrocious spelling mistakes.

Unless he was dyslexic. But also why would a dyslexic dude pick paper work over physical work? It was literally the same workspace, just different department. If he wanted to work with (or rather, against) fire, he still could have been doing that. But sure - maybe the guy liked it. Maybe he liked being corrected over and over in his reports and maybe he liked being ineffective and having to do them over and over again.

Aomine wasn't going to judge. Especially not a guy who couldn't even differentiate «big» and «dog» while having the kanji for «big» in his own given name. Who knew, maybe that was the reason he signed the email in romanization of his own name? Maybe he just couldn't fucking spell it correctly.
