Chapter Text
Megatronus Prime was not cut out for being a Sire.
He was the sword of Primus, the shield of the Thirteen Primes- Megatronus did not let sparklings sleep against his chassis, or hold tiny servos as they watched the elder High Guard members spar, or even rev his engines playfully for the wide-eyed mechlings.
Prima and Solus, however, seemed to think otherwise.
“Your sparkling found a cybercat,” Solus threw out in place of a greeting. She didn't so much as glance up as Megatronus stepped into her workshop, focusing instead on lifting her hammer high and then swinging it down onto the piece of scrap she was working with together. Sparks flew out wide as the pieces of metal hit, and yet Prima didn't twitch from beside Solus as he scrolled through a datapad.
“I don't have a sparkling,” Megatronus shot back for the umpteenth time. He followed this up, however, by asking, “Where did Soundwave find a cybercat?”
Prima finally glanced up enough to smile smugly at him. From behind his mask, Megatronus lightly glared back. Solus, either ignorant of or outright ignoring them, answered, “Zeta took him and a few of the other recruits to Kaon and they came back with her. And some signed gladiator cards.”
“Wonderful. And you let him keep her, why?” They could probably feed a cybercat. They were Primes, after all, not much could be denied them. The real question was whether or not Soundwave could care for a cybercat. Between combat training and helping Sentinel with busy work, there wasn't much time to pay attention to another sapient.
“We put it to a vote. Majority said to let you deal with it. Soundwave is yours,” Prima lifted a shoulder plate in a half-shrug, toeing the line between fond and amused. He was definitely enjoying the possibility of having a bitlet around far too much.
Megatronus flickered his optics in annoyance, colors swapping from blue to orange, and then back again. Prima flared out his finials in response, letting them rest in their fanned open state. Solus, who had glanced back at the clicking noise of shifting metal, ducked back to her forge with a snicker.
“Right,” Megatronus drawled. “In that case, I am going to go find our High Guard recruit and deal with this mess. Thank you so much for your help.”
Prima, smile turning to a grin, chirped back, “Of course, Megatronus. Remember to bring some energon sticks; sparkling eats a lot.”
Megatronus whipped around and left the workshop, only barely managing to keep from clipping his helm on the doorframe. He apparently had a wayward recruit to find, and a snack to pick up.
…and he probably should talk to Alpha Trion about keeping a cybercat around.
Megatronus wasn't all that surprised to find Soundwave by a radio pole, recording and playing back the words the radio host spewed out, just as Vector taught him to do. There's no cybercat in sight, which was a little odd, but would be one less issue Megatronus has to deal with.
He settled down beside Soundwave, attempting to make himself as small as possible to even out the height disparity, and handed over the energon sticks. Soundwave took it, echoed, “Ash storms expected around Rodion within the next decacycle,” and slid open his battle mask to bite down on the stick.
“You're getting better, little beast. There was less static with that one,” Megatronus spoke softly, quiet in case the recording was still going. Even so, he reached out a servo to drop atop Soundwave's helm, swaying him back and forth.
Soundwave accepted the teasing without complaint. When the swaying ceased and the energon stick was gone, Soundwave snapped his battle mask closed and said, “Affirmative. Soundwave: practicing.”
“I can see that. You're doing very well.” Megatronus nodded. He extended his field enough to show off his pride, though he had to quickly muffle a snort at the way Soundwave's plating rose with his own joy. “I also heard that you found a cybercat.”
Soundwave tipped his helm sideways, nearly touching his shoulder plating. Ironically, he looked like a cybercat who saw a light against the wall. “Affirmative.”
“...Well, where is it?”
Helm popping upright, Soundwave near immediately chirped, “Ravage: engage.” And like that, out of the dock in his chassis, a cybercat flew toward Megatronus.
Megatronus, though not expecting it, managed to catch the other little beast in one large servo, holding her high above their helms. She writhed and hissed and snapped her tail from side to side. Somehow, she seemed more feral than Starscream.
“She is a cassetticon,” Megatronus murmured. That explained a handful of things. He wiggled her in the air, simultaneously offering her her own energon stick. The designated Ravage bit down on it, munching with an angry growl.
Soundwave, apparently much happier with this turn of events than his cassette, clambered into Megatronus’ lap. Megatronus lifted his knee up higher for Soundwave to climb, giving him the ability to reach a much smaller servo out to pat Ravage's paw.
“Ravage: staying.”
“Yes, Ravage will be staying.”
“Soundwave: pleased,” Soundwave said, as close to cheerful as his voice got. Megatronus shook with a laugh, bringing Ravage down for Soundwave to take. Satisfied like that, the two settled back into Megatronus’ lap, making static noise at each other.
They stayed like that for a joor or two. Ravage, curled up around Soundwave's neck cables and licking his battle mask, and Soundwave himself flopped contently against Megatronus’ chassis. However long it was, it must've been too long; Prima was standing against the wall behind them when Megatronus turned far enough to catch sight of him.
“Prima,” Megatronus greeted slowly, tucking Soundwave closer and hopefully out of view. Prima's grin implied that he didn't succeed.
“Megs,” Prima returned. “So, Soundwave isn't your sparkling, huh?”
Megatronus could realize when he was wrong, and he knew at this point that Prima and Solus were right: Soundwave was his now, no other way about it. Megatronus could also realize the moment he swore that if the Quintessons didn't kill Prima and Solus, he would.
