Chapter 1: The Lovely Mama Nagant
Chapter Text
Kaina Tsutsumi didn’t remember the sun being so bright. Or the rookie heroes being this persistent. Really, she just wanted to relax in peace before she left Japan for good, but then these two kids kept following her wherever she went. The short green haired one seemed too nervous, while the tall blonde one seemed too boisterous. It looked like the greenette was mumbling something, while the blonde seemed confused about it. Maybe they were discussing her, maybe it’s just a coincidence, either way she would prefer not to confront anyone who could potentially arrest her.
Kaina tried to move away, only to be followed once again by the students, and now it definitely wasn’t a coincidence anymore. She pivoted into a more crowded street, well as crowded as a suburban town could be in the middle of a work day, but she hoped that it would get them to lose her. Just as she was about to pick up pace, the two rookies stopped to help some girl get her cat out of a tree. Felt like a waste of talent, making professional heroes do minor things like that, but she supposes it was a decent enough task for interns. Really it…
Damn it, she got off track again. The insomnia she felt from being awake for almost 40 hours seems to be getting to her head, and she wasn’t in the best of health to begin with. She needed to get away from this town, maybe to that one safehouse she had back in Musutafu. But that would mean being in the same city as All Might and UA, and that would spell disaster for a runaway escapee.
The former hero turned into the dark alleyway, hoping to hide away for a few hours to formulate a plan, when something small bumped into her. It was a child, a small and really tattered one at that. She wore medical robes and was barefoot, and her skin had scratches and several scars along her neck and right hand. The most notable features were her snow-white hair, bright red eyes, and the little horn poking out of the right side of her head. She was pathetic, like a wet kitten. She clung onto Nagant like her life depended on it, and before Nagant could ask her where her parents were, she weakly exclaimed: “Safe me, please.”
Nagant didn’t have time for this. She needs to get a more concrete escape route out of Japan by yesterday. She was lucky the guard accepted the deal in the first place, she needs to capitalize on it and not get attached to a random, most likely difficult to move child in the middle of an alleyway. But she looks so damn cute, and she looked at her like she was the only hope left in the world. “I’m sorry kid I can’t help you.” The kid started quivering. “Do you know where your mommy and daddy are?”
“It seems that you have found my daughter, lady.” came the answer. The voice belonged to a man of seemingly average stature, but Nagant knew from the stance that he was merely hiding. He had auburn hair, with nearly unnoticeable golden Irises and an unusually pale complexion. He wore a black sweatshirt and matching dress pants, accentuated by the green coat with thick, purple plumage around the collar, as well as the large plague mask covering the lower half of his face. As he said that, Eri shook more and gripped onto her even harder.
“I would like to thank you, I was worried about her. Could you please return her to me?” The villain continued, clearly not actually caring about her well-being. At that moment, something snapped. Maybe it was the sleep deprivation coupled with the stress. Maybe it was the sight of a child that looks like she’s barely in elementary age being scared like a damn quirk war veteran. Maybe it was the obviously evil fucker standing in front of her, rekindling whatever sparks of heroism and maternal instinct that was left in her heart. Whatever it was, her mind only had one goal now. Protect. That. Child.
“Of course”, Kaina replied calmly, before hunkering down pretending to pick up Eri. She whispered to her “When I say go, run as fast as you can, while screaming as loud as possible. Outside on the street there should be two heroes, a green one and a white one. Tell them there’s a fight going on here. I’ll take care of this man.” The child looked at her like she was a falling star, and nodded intently into her body. Good, she can take instructions. Nagant dislodged her right arm’s pistol discreetly, preparing a bullet, and suddenly yelled “GO!”
Eri took off, running as fast as her little legs could take her, while the suspicious man asked “What is the meaning of-”. Before he could finish the thought Nagant took a shot at his head, which he dodged with surprising ease. He took a wider stance and started rushing towards her while taking off his left glove. Nagant started backing away, while continuing to pelt him with bullets. She didn’t know what his quirk was, but taking off the gloves indicated a five-point activation requirement, so she at least knew to avoid that. As he approached her, she did a kick with her left foot to his face, stunning him for enough time for her to leave the alleyway out to the broad daylight. Luckily, there were no cars here, so she took the middle of the road, turning back to see her opponent. He was seemingly out of breath, already leaning on the building while looking directly at her.
“YOU WILL REGRET THAT!” he screeched, as from the tips of his fingers a shockwave swept across the building, before it started crumbling and forming into a giant concrete, brick, and glass fist, with several blotches of blood in some places. He swung overhead with the fist, but she dodged, shooting several bullets at him, which he blocked with his left arm, now covered in a significantly smaller concrete gauntlet. Some screams could be heard around their fight, but the adrenaline and her rushing ears drowned them out. She continued trying to pelt him with pullets and dodging the giant fist, trying to create a large enough distance between them for a seeking bullet to be effective. The villain seemed to have realized her plan, so he threw the giant fist at her, forcing a dodge, before he slammed his fist into the ground and created a wave of spikes heading her way. She attempted to dodge, but one of the spikes caught the side of her abdomen, forcing her to crouch.
Nagant closed down her right arm and focused on dodging, as the spikes the villain created were becoming bigger and bigger in an attempt to hit her. After a few more waves, she realized that she lost sight of him because of the spikes, so she attempted to climb one, only to barely dodge the new giant fist that he formed out of pavement and lamp posts. She was running out of options to dodge, when suddenly something hit the man's face through the fist, sending him flying. It was the blonder rookie from earlier.
“Your days of villainy end here Overhaul!”, he yelled. His bead-like blue eyes and stance were filled with a mighty righteousness, and his red cape flew in the wind. Just as Overhaul was about to do something, another yell was heard: ”FULL COWLING 40%! LOUISIANA SMASH!” A green lightning bolt struck Overhaul, sending him flying through several of the spikes and carving out a hole in the street. The greenette from earlier was now wearing the hood mask he was previously holding down, and he recovered from the backswing of the punch earlier than the force of it would suggest.
“I’m sorry Deku, this was supposed to be just a casual patrol, not an actual villain fight”, exclaimed the blonde
“It’s okay senpai, I wanted to try pushing my full cowling anyways.” replied Deku.
“I’m sorry for interrupting, but where is the kid?” asked Nagant, now realizing that the child did succeed in bringing both the heroes here.
“Don’t worry about it, Eri’s safe. What you should worry about is yourself, and the potential time you’ll be serving for illegal quirk usage.”
“Mirio, we don’t have the time for this!”
“Of course Deku-san.” With that they both got into their fighting positions, and just in time, as Overhaul returned from punch.
He yelled:”I WILL NOT GO AWAY WITHOUT ERI! WHERE IS SHE YOU DAMN-”. Before he could finish the sentence, a shrapnel bullet hit his lungs, making him gag and cough. Before he could do anything else, he was shot three more times in the head and torso, and he fell into a puddle of his own blood.
But Lady Nagant wouldn’t stop shooting. The adrenaline made her focused only on killing the person who hurt Eri. The two kids were saying something to her, but it was drowned out in the gun noises, the adrenaline, and the disgusting feeling of satisfaction that every bullet brought. The green kid attempted to stop her, rushing right up to her and forcibly raising her hand in the air, but she simply switched to the other and continued firing. She didn’t care. And suddenly, something hit the back of neck, making her lose control of her body and fall unconscious. She still needed to get to the child and make sure she’s okay.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~3 days later
Kaina’s new solitary confinement cell was exactly like her old one, though this time without the constant nagging of guards and prison mates. Which was good, as she needed all the silence she could get to contemplate the decisions that led her back to Tartarus. Now that she wasn’t running on adrenaline, she saw how goddamn stupid she was. She should’ve just let the kid go. Some other hero probably could have gotten to her. And fighting a villain in close range combat with an unknown quirk was way too risky when she was running low on time. She should have-
“ Please, save me.”
The kid's voice rang through her head. It has been doing so ever since she woke up in Tartarus’s hospital last night. The haunting way her whole being trembled when she pleaded for help from someone not fit to be a hero.
“ Please, save me.”
But at least she gave herself this one thing: She saved the girl's life, at least for a few more years. She’ll probably be moved to an orphanage and forced back into a life of crime, but at least Kaina might have given her the hope she needed to become something greater. Even if it meant that she was stuck in this hellhole forever
Something interrupted her musings. As the locking mechanisms started rustling, she scrambled to get up from the bed. The door creaked open, and standing outside was an imposingly tall, bald, dressed in a military uniform, and carrying a black bag cyclops heteromorph. Head Warden Tetsuyama who had overseen her reception, deal making, release, and quick re-reception at Tartarus.
“Prisoner 656698” his voice bellowed, “you have been summoned for an interrogation.” He looked and sounded worn out, as if he himself hadn't slept in days. It seems like she might have caused more trouble than she first expected. She didn’t speak up or resist, and simply put on the bag, meant to obscure the vision of prisoners that were being relocated.
Kaina followed the Warden out of Tartarus through the winding corridors of Tartarus, noticing how he was moving in a hurry, barely being able to keep up while blinded. They, by what she remembers from the last time she was led this way to her current cell, should have been in the elevator to the upper floors by now, but instead they continued walking. Eventually they entered a door, still on the maximum security floor, and she was sat on a rather comfortable chair. As the back was removed from her head, instead of the usual beige walls and darkened glass panels of Tartarus's interrogation facilities, she was greeted by the sight of a luxurious room, more fit to be the office room of a CEO. In front of her was a desk, and behind that desk was a large swivel chair, turned towards the collection of screens pretending to be a window. The front of the swivel chair turned towards her, and a rather familiar face was sitting in it.
“Am I a bear, am I a mouse? Nobody knows! Though I assume you are already familiar with who I am, right Miss Tsutsumi?” The pro hero Nezdu was for some reason sitting in front of her, sipping his usual tea. Kaina would have expected a detective to interrogate her, not an actual pro hero.
“The number 4 hero Nezdu.” She replied
“Ah, it seems I have forgotten that you haven’t seen the news in quite a while. I have actually retired from my hero activities shortly after your assassination, and I’m currently the principal of the United Academy.”
“Great, but why are you here instead of indoctrinating the next generation of government paid murderers?”
“Ever the blunt one Miss Tsutsumi. Though I assure you, ever since I became the principal UA has made massive improvements in the moral department. Now as to why I am actually here.
You might remember the villain Overhaul, who you brutally murdered 3 days ago, though you weren’t paid by the government for that weren’t you? Now Overhaul was the type of villain that the public would not bat an eye about if they were killed by a freak accident during their transportation. His resume includes being the leader of a drug cartel, corruption of government employees, unethical medical experimentation, and as you might know by now child abuse. But the Shie Hasakai was still the biggest villainous group in the Shizuoka district, and its dissolution from Overhauls death opened up a rather large power vacuum, and some of the smaller groups increased in activity rather quickly.” The rodent took another sip of his tea.
“Great, now what does that have to do with me? I’m not going back to hero work, and if I have to kill another president-”
“There’s no need for that at all. My exposition was simply a background and another factor needed for me to give you the real proposition I have for you.” Nedzu took out a remote from his coat while moving to the left wall, and with a click of a button the screens behind him rapidly changed to display several newscasts. The date was April 2163, and they were covering the destruction of several blocks in a suburban area due to a freak villain fight. Several casualties, dozens injured. Two hero students held responsible for the inability to save the people. Something about ‘the symbol of rebirth’ being involved. Every screen, every different outlet covered something different, but after a few minutes, they all converged onto one scene.
A shaky camera filmed the detainment of a villain under the oversight of Nighteye, Lemillion, and Deku. The villain was strapped to a stretcher, and the heroes were discussing something, but were too faint to be heard. In the spur of a moment a little girl burst out in between the heroes, moving towards the villain. One of the heroes stretched out their hands toward the girl and shouted something, but she didn’t stop. The little girl didn’t even get halfway before being stopped by some police officers, but now she was close enough for the camera crew to pick up her cries. “Let her go! She saved me! She’s a hero! Please!”
Kaina was stumped and sweating. Someone truly thought of her as a hero. She hasn't felt like this in a long time, and a small tear came down her face. The screens turned off and returned to the artificial sea outside, and the rodent principal rolled back into his former position.
“You see, little Eri has a very powerful and dangerous quirk. It’s called ‘Rewind’ and as the name suggests, it rewinds anything she touches back in time. Sometimes, too much. Therefore, even if I were heartless enough to do it, she can’t be placed under foster care, and is in need of a Guardian. The past few days she has been living with one of my teachers, Eraserhead, however she has found him ‘scary’ and keeps asking for ‘the woman with pretty hair.’ So, I decided to kill a flock with one stone, and bring you this proposition” He finished his cup of tea.
“Join UA as a teacher, and become Eri’s legal guardian.”
Chapter 2: Arrival
Summary:
Kaina arrives at UA, meets some teachers, and realizes the full extend of her contract.
Notes:
Forgot to mention this last post. While Lady Nagant is indeed the main character of this story, she isn't the only character in this world. The main plot of MHA is happening with or without her, though her early change of heart and debut may change some of its events. Additionally, you may realize over the course of the fic you may realize that there are some changes to the cast and events of the story.

Chapter Text
She was still shaking as she was leaving the room. This whole day still felt like a daydream to her. Before she knew it, she was in an armoured vehicle heading for Musutafu. She couldn’t see nor hear the driver, nor did she care. She was just happy to finally be free from hell. However, something felt wrong about this situation. The whole thing seemed to benefit her too much and give Nezdu nothing. He probably had to spend a lot of leverage to get her out of Tartarus, not to mention the public backlash from allowing a known murderer into UA ground AND to teach their new generation of heroes.
Eventually the car arrived at their destination. As she was unbuckling her seatbelt, a screen opened down from the ceiling, and Nezdu’s smug little face appeared on it, somehow being in his office before Kaina arrived. “Oh by the way, I forgot to mention that I won’t be able to give you a tour around the school, as I have other matters to attend to. You will instead be greeted by some of the teachers you will be assisting during your parole period. Your first lessons will start on Monday, and the Commission is expecting your first patrol by the end of the week”
“Hold on a second, you didn’t say anything about returning to hero work!”
“Oh but there was! The contract states that only active heroes could be teachers at UA. And for a hero to count as active they need to do a minimum amount of work or public exposure in a week.”
“What the- Since when?!?”
“For at least 10 years now. There was a big controversy from a top german hero scamming their hero commission out of a hundred thousands dollars after not showing up to work, and since then almost every country turned away from giving hero’s work hour paychecks.”
Kaina’s heart was racing. No, no, NOT AGAIN. “Th-this wasn’t-”
“Ms. Tsutsumi, don’t take this as an insult. Take this as a second chance at being a true hero! Besides, it's not like I’m gonna force you to kill people. If you are feeling overwhelmed by it, you may also ask one of your colleagues to join them on patrol.”
She couldn’t breathe. That rat betrayed her. She shouldn’t have zoned out after the rodent offered her freedom. The animal principal was saying something behind his muted mic, and she wouldn’t take any chances. She kicked down the door of the car and floored it as fast as possible. The car was already in UA territory, but at least she remembered a bit of the overall layout from her school days. Speeding through the familiar, yet unknown environment, she bumped into several people, but she didn’t have the time or the care to excuse herself. She already approached the door, and was ready to shoot the lock down, when she realized,
her quirk wasn’t working.
Suddenly something came flying out of a tree directly at her, and before she knew it, she was on the ground, wrapped up in some clothes, with some hobo standing on top of her. He looked like he hadn't slept, eaten, drank, or showered in weeks, and his outfit looked tattered and unwashed. He looked incredibly disappointed.
Kaina attempted to struggle out of the trap, but was lifted in the air upside down, to be eye to eye with the homeless guy. She only just noticed that his eyes were glowing red, realizing that he was using his quirk on her. She tried to distract him.
“What is a homeless guy doing in UA? I thought this was a prestigious school.”
Unamused, the homeless guy replied “What is a murderer doing in UA? I thought this was a hero school”
“At least I’m not assaulting a woman!”
“Shut it. We both know damn well that you have 2 guns attached to your arms at all times.”
“YO Shouta, you were supposed to just escort her to the teacher’s campus.” shouted someone from a distance, his voice echoing despite how close he was.
The two newcomers at least looked like proper heroes. The man looked like a cockatoo in a leather jacket with a director's mustache. With this distraction, Kaina tried to again get out of the scarf, but it tightened up harder, squeezing the breath out of her.
The hobo scoffed, saying: “Nedzu warned me that she would try to run, I simply made sure she wouldn’t escape. I warned him this was a mistake when he first suggested getting her on parole.”
The bird replied amusedly: “Oh come on Erasy, you should’ve at least introduced yourself, maybe she wouldn’t have run otherwise.”
Kaina was still struggling to get out as the three heroes bantered. The cockatoo man was Present Mic, and the hobo was Eraserhead, apparently the same teacher who was previously assigned to Eri. No wonder she was scared of him. Eventually Eraserhead convinced the other two to get back to the principal's office. As they were moving, she could see several students try to approach them and get a closer look at what the teachers brought in this time. One of them even had the gall to say: “Damn that’s a big fish.”
They arrived at the principal's office, and by this point Kaina was dizzy from all the blood in her body being pushed into her head. Eraserhead unwrapped her and put her on a chair. The office was remarkably similar to the one in Tartarus, only this one had an actual window behind the desk, and the desk had a golden plate with the words “PRINCIPAL N. NEDZU”. So apparently his hero name was his actual name but with a spelling mistake. The principal wasn’t here yet, and Mic left to grade homework, leaving her alone with Eraser.
The silence was loud, but neither wanted to start a conversation. She thought about trying to run, but by this point she understood that she wouldn’t get far. Despite the hobo’s unassuming look, he seemed to actually be in shape. She meanwhile has been rotting in prison for the past 15 years, and the distance was too close for a quick draw. All they could do was wait for the rodent to show up. About 15 minutes later he arrived on his mobile stand, stirring a cup of tea.
“Sorry for the wait, I had to deal with some complaints from Sir Nighteye. Anyways, I assume you have problems with our arrangement? You are free to leave Eraserhead.” But he didn’t budge, simply saying “I have my own problems with you, but I’ll vent them out once you’re done with this murderer.”
‘ The audacity of these rats.’ Kaina thought to herself. “Yes I do. You didn’t mention that I would return to hero service when I would be released.”
“Oh but I did, you simply zoned out and signed the document I gave you. You should be more careful when signing documents impacting your life, Miss Tsutsumi.”
She tried to remember him saying something about it, but she failed. She did indeed zone out and simply signed the first thing that she was given. But the rodent continued
“But you see, I knew that something like this might happen, after all dealing with a bunch of hormonal teenagers with strong quirks is no easy task, especially in a competitive environment like professional heroism. That is why most of my teacher contracts have a severance clause, allowing them to resign whenever they want to with minimal notice.” He took a sip of his tea.
“Then I’ll take it.”
“Of course. You can take the contract, burn it or rip it apart, and return to Tartarus at once.” Another sip
“Huh?”
“Indeed. The contract states that you would become a teaching assistant at UA and the temporary guardian of Eri in return for being put on parole with potential for full pardon. That is at least the one part that you did hear, right? It just so happens that at least one day of work a week is required for this to happen. I can’t go against the law after all, only apply loopholes.” The final sip, and the cup was empty.
It took all of her willpower to not shout, storm out of the office building and take a one way ticket back to hell. She took a deep breath, sighed, and simply nodded. The mouse knew that he had already won, and simply gestured for her to leave the room. As she closed the door behind her, she could faintly hear Eraserhead and Nedzu starting their discussion, based on the few muffled noises it had something to do with her.
“Eavesdropping now are we?” Called out someone not so far away. It was a woman dressed in what can only be described as ‘managers' attempt at making BDSM gear look child friendly’.
“W-What no, I was-”
“Don’t worry, I won’t report you to the police or anything. I came to eavesdrop myself. Nedzu installed extra thick doors so that we wouldn’t eavesdrop as badly. The name’s Kayana Nemuri by the way, who’re you?”
“I’m Kaina Tsutsumi.”
Kayana looked a little shocked. “Oh really? So you’re Aizawa-san's new assistant that he’s been fuzzing about for the past few days! Well, nice to meet you then. Have you got a tour of this place yet?”
“No, not yet.”
“Damn Aizawa-san can’t even help a woman with directions, what has chivalry come to this day? Come Tsutsumi-san, I’ll show you around.” She nodded her head in a way that suggested Kaina to follow her. Since she didn’t have anything better to do, she decided to follow Nemuri around. They walked out of the administrative section and went to look around the student complex. There was a warm feeling of nostalgia, despite all the time that had passed since she graduated here. Some students were having study sessions, either with a teacher or with their classmates.
Kayana showed her the cafeteria, the training areas, and the park attached to the school grounds. The tour ended with the housing area of UA, several 3-4 story buildings for both staff and students. Apparently a massive villain attack caused a security risk, forcing UA to create dorms for the students.
“Your room should be over here. They have biometric scanning, and knowing Nedzu he probably already has your data on it.” Midnight commented
She was right, as the second she came up to the wooden door, a small camera came out of the panel next to it, and some clicking could be heard in the mechanism. As they opened the door, they saw Eri, now clothed in cute overalls and a hello kitty shirt with a bow on her head, sitting on the floor, playing a memory game with some teenagers. In fact, said teenagers seemed very familiar to Kaina. It was the greenette and blonde guy who arrested her.
Notes:
Added 11.02.25 I kinda forgot that this had a biweekly schedule, so sorry for drop in quality. I'll probably will rewrite this chapter later on, maybe after the second arc.
Chapter 3: A new leaf
Summary:
Nagant settles in to her new home, and helps Eri through a nightmare.
Notes:
I think the AO3 curse is about to smite me down, because I just got the news that my Dad, whom I live with currently, might loose his job and we will be forced to move back to my poor home country. I also got an offer from Hong Kong University which is cool. Anyways, enjoy the chapter.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
The apartment was small, but still big enough for two people. It had a medium sized main lounge attached to a kitchen, a couch, a table, 3 chairs, and a TV placed on a drawer. There wasn’t anything attached to the walls, but there was a small potted plant on the windowsill. There were two rooms opposite to each other, most likely Kaina’s and Eri’s future bedrooms. It looked like a cleaned out room for fresh tenants. Except it was currently occupied by a child and two teenagers.
The first one to notice the new arrival was Eri, who immediately dropped everything she was doing and rushed in to hug Kaina. Her little hands clung on to her with all her strength, reminding her a lot of their first meeting. She whispered “You came after all, Ms. Hero.” Kaina wanted to twirl her around the air and give her uppies and pinch her cheeks, but she was scared that it would spook the little girl away, so she just hugged her and said “Of course I did.”
The rags she first met her in betrayed Eri’s true nature, which was that of the cutest little girl in the whole world. She had a bandaid on her cheek, an adorable little horn growing out of the left side of her hair, just above the forehead. She wore the sweetest Hello Kitty shirt, almost hidden under red overalls, accentuated by a tiny bow on the right side of her head. Her holographic red eyes and big pupils really elevated the cuteness, bringing it together into one white rabbit package.
Eri made Kaina forget that there were two other children in the room, who she knew a tiny bit better, if only because she actually fought them. The green boy and the blondie turned towards them with a surprised look. The greenette stood up in a crouching combat pose with green lightning whirled around him. Luckily, before he did anything Midnight leaned at the entrance, chuckling. “Well hello boys! Hope you weren’t too bothered to look after Eri, because Tsutsumi-san will be taking over that role from now on.”
The boy looked confused and relaxed his stance, the green lightning dissipating, “Tsutsumi-san… Wait, like Kaina Tsutsumi? Like legendary former pro hero Kaina Tsutsumi?” He looked back towards his blonde friend “Mirio-senpai I told you I recognized that quirk! It was Lady Nagant after all.”
Mirio was still sitting rather nonchalantly. His dot-like eyes were difficult to read, but his body language made up for it, slapping his forehead. “I’m gonna give you that one Midoriya-san. I’ll tell Sir Nighteye that you were right later. But I do want to know why she was chosen to be Eri’s guardian instead of Eraserhead-sensei.”
Midnight turned back outside shrugging, “I personally don’t know. Nedzu just said that we would be getting a new colleague soon, I just didn’t know it would be someone with an ankle monitor. Anyways, my job here is done, have a good day! Tsu-san, classes start tomorrow at 9, Shouta should come over and escort you to the class”
Mirio pondered for a moment, before he stood up saying: “Well, since Nedzu trusts you, I trust you too. Have a nice day everyone.” With that he too left the apartment, leaving only Midoriya, Kaina, and Eri behind. Kaina felt awkward, as any former villain in the same room with the person who arrested them would be. The boy was practically bouncing in place, with a notepad and pen that he seemingly materialized out of thin air.
“Can I ask you some questions about your quirk?”
‘Great, he’s a quirk fanatic’ , Kaina thought to herself. She really wasn’t in the mood to deal with this guy, especially considering that he was just about to attack her with Eri in her hands. She also needed to figure out what to eat for dinner. But his curiosity probably won’t allow him to simply go away, so might as well answer some of his questions before sending him away.
“Fine. But only a few.”
She barely had time to finish the last question when he started rattling off questions, much to Kaina’s annoyance and Eri’s confusion, trying to understand the big words Midoriya was saying. “Can you change the caliber of your weapon? Do you know how much force you can exert on a bullet? How do you control your ammunition after it launches? What is the launching mechanism of your gun? Can you turn other parts of your body into guns?”
“Can you-”
“What about other weapons? If you were to grow out your hair could you use thatasanadditionalweapon?Canyouonlycontrolyourhead’shairoralsootherbodyhair?Howdoyoucontrolwhattypeofammunition-”
“ONE QUESTION AT THE TIME. Can you please ask me one question at a time?”
“Oh sorry. I ramble a lot when I get excited.”
“Yeah I noticed.”
Eri, having processed at least a little bit of the word salad, asked “What’s an ammunition, Miss Hero?”
At that moment, Kaina wanted to cuddle her all up, but she already did so five minutes ago, so instead she crouched down to her face and replied. “It’s what you put in a gun to make it shoot.” She reached for the side of her head, as a bit of her hair twisted into the form of a spongy bullet head, meant to simply hurt or stun the target. Eri watched in awe as that happened, and so did Midoriya, who was giddy and practically bouncing in place. This gave her an idea. She made two more bullets, another spongy one and a hard one, throwing them to Midoriya as soon as she was done.
“Will you leave if I give you these?”
Midoriya happily nodded, leaving the apartment practically vibrating while screaming for someone called Mei. He slammed the door in his hurry, at which Eri flinched. ‘Wow, she really is just like a frightened little bunny.’ “Hey Eri, are you okay?”
“Yes Miss Hero”
“There’s no need to call me Miss. Call me Kaina.”
“Okay Miss Kaina.”
She’ll have to get that one out of her system later. A little bit too late, but she realized that she forgot to ask Midoriya about Eri’s quirk. She looked into the pockets of her hero costume, the only belonging she currently had. A wallet with some bills and a credit card set to expire in September five years ago, a dead phone, and a package of gum that she wasn’t brave enough to open. She rummaged through the drawers, hoping to find anything of use. Some utensils, pots, knives, and pens later she found something interesting. A folder full of documents that had ‘Important things for Kaina Tsutsumi’ written on it with a sharpie. She brought them to the table in the middle of the room, looking through them to find things in any potential . This didn’t last long, as she was distracted by tiny footsteps and creaking. Looking up from the document, she saw Eri trying to move a chair.
“What are you doing sweetheart?”
“I want to help you Miss Kaina.”
‘ Bless her little heart, she truly is the cutest and most pure child on the planet’ Kaina thought to herself. Eri wouldn’t be able to help at all with what she was doing though, but she had another idea. She took out her phone, showing it to Eri.
“Eri, I need your help finding a very important thing. This is my phone, and it has no battery left. I need you to try and find me,” she pointed the underside of the phone out to her, showing the charger hole, “ a cable that fits into this hole.”
“What is a charger?”
“It’s a long plastic rope with a little metal thing at the end. Try and stick the metal thing into the hole, okay?” The girl beamed with a childlike determination, and went to try and find the mysterious object her caregiver tasked her to find, giving Kaina some time to read the documents properly. From what she reads, she will be given two salaries, a flat one for being the teaching assistant of class 2-A and 2-B, and a performance based one for her required hero work. There were several clauses that would exempt her from the latter, but they required her to get pregnant, crippled, or aged up by 25 years.
She was just contemplating on how she could fake a pregnancy when she felt a tap on her shoulder, and she looked to her side, seeing Eri holding a cable in her hands.
“I found it Miss Kaina”
“Thank you Eri, you did a great job.” The little girl lightened up a lot from that, getting red like a tomato and holding her cheeks with her hands. Kaina made a mental note to always compliment her on everything she does from now on. The phone charged to full, revealing that her sim card was dead, almost every account she had got deleted, and that she forgot to ask Kayana for the internet password. She rummaged through the drawers again, and found a small notebook with passwords for new emails and schoolwide Wi-Fi. Luckily, she found that her bank account was still active despite the expired credit card, and that someone had filled it enough for her to buy everything she could need to restart her life and last her and Eri for 3 months. ‘I guess the rat is good for something huh.’
“Hey Eri, I don’t have anything to make for dinner. What's your favourite food?”
“Apples”
”Uh huh, do you want to eat pizza instead?”
“What is a pizza?”
“Okay, we are getting pizza for dinner. I promise you Eri, you’ll love it.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eri did indeed love the pizza, despite Kaina’s rather bland tastes. She never liked extravagant pizza’s, she thought that if you want more food, just order something that isn’t cheese bread. Nevertheless, Eri’s first bite was forever documented in picture form, and her subsequent reaction of awe and what was possibly melting taste buds was too. She ate fervently, but was done before Kaina, as her little stomach couldn’t handle more than 3 slices.
“So, did you like it?”
“Yes, I loved it Miss Kaina! Can we have more tomorrow?”
“No, it’s bad for your health. But we can eat it every Sunday, as a treat.”
Eri’s expression shifted from somberness to a neutral expression, which slightly concerned Kaina.
“Hey Eri, what have you been eating before you were saved?”
The little girl stuttered and winced, closing her eyes, clearly remembering a bad, maybe many bad memories. “I-I…”
“It’s okay Eri you don’t-”
“No! Miss Kaina told me to tell whatI ate and I need to say it.”
Her expression became more focused, clearly struggling to remember.
“It was white but darker, and it was gooey. It didn’t have a taste because Kai-Onii-sama told me it wasn’t supposed to taste good, just provide nutiens”
Kaina wishes she could resurrect that bird-faced bastard just so she could kill him again, but if she did that her mental state would spiral out of control. Calmly she walked up to Eri and hugged her, saying: “Don’t worry sweetheart, you’ll never have to eat anything like that again. I promise, you’ll get to taste something new every day.” Eri didn’t fully understand why what she said was so wrong, but she found comfort in her savior's arms, drifting asleep in her new Guardian's embrace.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eri was sleeping somewhat peacefully in her bed, and she is supposed to be asleep right now too, but Kaina was still restless. She couldn’t bring herself to sleep for the past fortnight, not after what she has done. It felt so cathartic, so satisfying, when she filled the man's body with holes, and hearing about the abuse he committed on Eri made it feel all the more justified. And yet, a few days later, she could barely contain the disgust she had at herself, falling back into those disgusting thoughts from those times.
“Sir, do we have to kill them? I don’t think these crimes are merit-”
“If we don’t they’ll be back. They already failed their test. If a hero commits a small crime and goes unchecked, they’ll see themselves as being all powerful, above the law. We can’t allow superhumans to run around thinking they’re too good for the rules. Don’t worry about it agent Moisant, just one last kill, and it’ll be over”
One last kill. That’s right, Overhaul was that last kill. No more, she is not a slave to the Commission anymore. She walked out of the room, hoping to calm or distract herself from her self-pity. She took the folder from earlier from out of the drawer she put it in, and started looking through other documents. There were two smaller folders in it, labelled ‘2-A’ and ‘2-B’, and she decided to try and find out a bit more about the students she is supposed to teach. She opened the 2-A folder, being instantly greeted by the ugly mug of that Eraserhead guy. ‘ Great, I need to help this bastard manage a bunch of teenagers tomorrow.’ She decided to ignore that folder for now, opening the 2-B folder, only to be greeted by an even uglier face. ‘Vlad King’ was his name, a man in his early 30’s, with a blood manipulation quirk. He taught heroics with the aid of someone called Yagi Toshinori. From the few notes given, he seemed like a grumpy fellow, but one that ultimately cares a lot about his students.
She continued to read on the students of Vlad King's class, seeing a few students with potential, some who had on-going work studies, and some she was surprised managed to get into the hero course at all. She was about to open up the 2-A folder, when she heard shuffling noises from Eri’s room. Going inside, she found Eri tossing and turning in her sleep, the blanket, cover and pillow folded and packaged in a pile next to the bed, her horn glowing lightly. Kaina approached the child, sat on the bed with Eri, touching her cheeks ever so slightly. That was enough to stir Eri out of her sleep, her half awoken voice stammering something Kaina couldn’t understand. She kissed Eri on her forehead, whispering to her: “It’s okay sweetheart, I’m here, don’t worry. Go back to sleep.” Eri calmed down from that, falling asleep again, but latching onto Kaina’s arm fiercely. Feeling the effect of staying awake for so long, she laid down next to Eri, hugging her, falling asleep. They had a long month ahead of them, might as well rest up before it
Notes:
I wish someone more talented than me decided to use this prompt, they could give the final scene the oomph it deserves. I have been thinking about writing it ever since I started writing this fic. I also had to remove a scene because the chapter was getting a bit long. Anyways, if you have any critiques or suggestions to my writing, please leave a comment, any criticism is appreciated.
Chapter 4: The old and the new
Summary:
Kaina meets her first class, buys groceries, and meets an interesting old man
Notes:
So sorry for being late guys! I had to fill in Visa forms and find old ass documents from when I was a kid, so I delayed the chapter by a week. I promise this might not happen again. Anyways, here's an extra long chapter for the trouble. I had trouble deciding which of the three scenes to postpone till the next chapter, so I decided to just to just include them all!
Also I found out Nagant can only make a gun in her right hand. I have seen Horikoshi's decision, and decided it is a bullshit decision. She can do it from both hands here.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
The early morning sun shone through the window, waking Kaina from her sleep rather rudely. She tried shutting her eyes harder and turning away, to get a few more minutes of sleep in, but felt something little and warm pressing against her torso. She opened her eyes, seeing Eri curled up against her, sleeping well despite last night's nightmare. She stood up, closing the window to let her sleep a few more hours, checking the time. 7:50. Suddenly a shrilling noise rang through the house, reminding her that for all she wanted to relax with Eri all day she now had a job to do. She put on her clothes in a hurry, and did the best she could to get her hair to look somewhat proper, and opened the door.
“You’re late.” said Eraserhead, looking almost exactly as homeless and unclean as he did yesterday. A scraggly teen just about the height she expected from a 16 year-old was with him. The dark bags below his eyes and messy purple hair made her think he was a carbon copy of Eraserhead. He even had the same brooding look on his face.
She didn’t bear mind to his words, hoping to divert his attention from her oversleeping. “Who’s the kid?”
“One of the students you’ll be watching over. He just got transferred to my class, so he needs my help finding the way.”
The kid spoke out about that: “No I don’t.”
“Yes you did, I found you wandering in the opposite direction to the dorm.”
“I was… going out for a walk?”
“Sure, and I am the proud owner of a bear cub.” The kid didn’t say anything back. The group walked in silence to the dorm. Eventually, they went up to the third floor of the main building, turned a couple corners, and arrived at a door labeled “2-A.” Inside the room several voices were heard, having heated, and one voice in particular was shouting something about order and educational priorities.
The hobo kicked the door open quietly, the class falling silent instantly. Several students that were mid argument stopped instantly, two just woke up from their nap, and one with glasses stood up from behind the teacher's desk. He had blue hair and an angular face, a lot like a younger version of Ingenium. He started chopping and yelled: “ERASERHEAD-SENSEI! DURING YOUR ABSENCE OF THE FIRST THREE MINUTES OF THE LESSON I HAVE ORGANIZED A QUIET FREE STUDY LESSON WITH MY CLASS!”
A different student, a blonde kid with spiky hair yelled back at him: “NO WE DIDN’T FOUREYES.”
Aizawa rolled his eyes and said: “Good job Iida. Everybody get back to your seat.”
The students moved back to their seats, remaining quiet, except for the blonde kid, who looked a little past the open door and saw the two newcomers. “Who the hell invited you Depresso?”, he said while pointing at Shinso, ”And who the hell are you?” while he pointed at Kaina.
”Later Bakugou. Anyways, welcome back to your second year at UA, your curriculum is now on a new level bla-bla-bla. You all already know every single word in the opening speech I’m supposed to deliver, so instead let's just cut to the actually important stuff. We have two newcomers this year, first of all, your new classmate Hitoshi Shinsou.”
The purple haired kid walked to the middle of the classroom and stood in front of the desk with his arms behind his head stretching, saying “Told ya’ll,” into the crowd. Some students
“You are probably aware of his existence thanks to last year's summer festival and Joint Training with 1-B. Nedzu has given me the task of bringing him up to speed to be introduced to the hero class, and now he is here. 2-B however will not be receiving any new students for the foreseeable future.” Shinsou went to the back, sat on the only seat in the fifth row, and promptly laid out his arms and head, seemingly ready to sleep.
“Our second newcomer will be part of the faculty, and will be responsible for helping your and class 2-B’s development, Lady Nagant. If you at any point are struggling with anything, be it mentally or in your education you may approach her an hour after school. If you have any questions, ask her now. Otherwise you’re free to do whatever.” He went to the teachers desk, pulling out a yellow sleeping bag and crawling into it.
Almost immediately, a constant noise was heard, and Kaina saw a familiar face. It was Midoriya, armed with another pen and notebook, this one having the word “TEACHERS” written in big letters on the front cover. She sweated and glanced towards Eraserhead, but he already turned around in his bag. This storm had to be weathered alone.
But before he could ask anything, Bakugou spoke out first. He stood up putting one foot on his desk, pointing at Kaina. He yelled just as loudly as before: “WHY ARE YOU HERE?”
“To teach you-”
“I MEANT WHY ARE YOU HERE TO TEACH US? WAS MR SLEEPYHEAD NOT ENOUGH? AND WHY DO WE HAVE TO SHARE ANOTHER THING WITH THOSE B-CLASS EXTRAS?”
She contemplated on what to tell him, before answering: “To be honest, the only reason I’m here is because it’s either teaching you guys or rotting in Tartarus. I don’t like professional heroism and I don’t like the fact that this is a high school instead of a university. But I have standards, and since I’m employed here, I might as well do the work that’s required of me. As to the other class, my notes said that it is mandatory for both courses to be granted equal possibilities, including faculty they can reach out to and courses.”
The answer satisfied Bakugou, who sat back down, but interested the other students. Several hands raised to the air, so she picked one at random. A girl with pink hair, skin, and black sclera stood up. Her hair was rather fluffy, and her jacket was decorated with a bunch of pins from various media, some she recognized and some she didn’t. She asked: “What did you use with your hair? It looks so pretty and straight!”
She didn’t have time to do anything with her hair, she’s pretty sure she didn’t even brush it in the past few years. It made her blush, realizing that she came to work completely ungroomed. “My quirk lets me partially control my hair, I use it mostly as a substitute for brushing it when I’m in a hurry or don’t have a brush.”
The pink girl muttered a ‘lucky’ under her breath, before the next student asked her a question. His face and hair wear pitch black, almost like a shadow in the seat, except for his bright white eyes. “Can you please elaborate more on that ‘Tartarus or teach’ thing?”
“I got arrested fifteen years ago, if you want to ask more, ask Midoriya.”
Speaking of Midoriya, hearing his name go him riled up even more, and at this point he couldn’t contain himself anymore. “How much control over your hair do you have? Can you control its rotation? Potentially remove lice without Shampoo? Does different Shampoo and Conditioner affect it differently? Does it grow faster?Canyou-”
Before he could continue any longer, Nagant sushed him. “Please, only one question, leave your classmates some time too.” He pondered it for a moment, really thinking about it. Eventually, he came up with a suitable request. “Can you sign my notebook?”
“No, I don’t sign things anymore. I’m not even an active hero yet.”
The rest of the kids' questions were uneventful. Some asked about who she was as a hero, what her rank was, asking more about her personal life, which she either deflected to Midoriya, or denied. Eventually, the hype died down and students were left to their own devices. She couldn’t really leave with Eraserhead, their only other supervisor, asleep in the corner, so she elected to sit down on the desk and started snooping through his class plans. A good quarter had the topic name and a summary of the lesson, and some others had just a topic name. Every lesson that she was assigned to was noted with a purple blob next to the date, and she noted several other blobs of varying colours on some other days.
Just out of earshot, she could hear the other students asking questions to Midoriya, who was more than happy to answer them. Eventually, someone asked yet again: “Why did she get put in prison then?”
He answered: “Well, from what I can tell it’s because she got caught killing the pro hero Anchorage in cold blood, and was sentenced 60 years in prison for corruption, abuse of power, and first degree premeditated murder.”
Nagant intervened, coldly shooting down Midoriya’s explanation. “No, it wasn’t for that. It was because the Commission ran out of a use for their pawn, and the pawn killed the president of their club in vengeance. Unfortunately, it didn’t end up slowing them down in the slightest, and I got pinned for the death a different pawn did.”
The students were shocked to hear this, and most of the ones listening to Midoriya’s explanations started asking if it was true, but luckily for her, a knock on the door saved her from reopening any more mental wounds. The person who came in was a tall cloaked individual, with a dome like black mask with a grin on it, resembling a robot in a way. He greeted her, and she returned in kind, letting her escape the overly curious kids.
Just as she was about to go down the stairs, she could hear someone run up to her. It was Midoriya, probably not satisfied with the interview he held. She was already mentally preparing herself for the third questionnaire. He looked at her with puppy eyes, saying: “I’m sorry for bothering you that much at today's class Nagant-sensei.”
She didn’t expect that. “Really? Well, alright then, apology accepted.”
“I know you might be tired, but I really only have one question left, and it is a really important one.”
“Shoot your shot.”
“I know you escaped Tartarus on Wednesday, a day before my weekly internship session at Sir Nighteye’s agency. However, I read some articles, and found out that at the same time, a malfunction caused the highest security prisoner to be murder. Do you happen to know anything about it? It’s really important for personal business”
That was a curveball and a half. It touched a nerve she didn’t want to touch, maybe for the rest of her life. But she had to deal with it somehow, and she knew the answer, but couldn’t say it to anyone. “I’ll let you in on a little secret. Whatever the government says is always a lie, but the malfunction was real. Except it wasn’t in the mechanisms or the sensors, but in the hearts of the Wardens. It wasn’t just a murder, but an execution. And I didn’t want anything to do with it.” She turned around, leaving him to figure it out on his own. Walking away, a single tear rolled down her face. ‘But I had to. One last kill.’
—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although she did check the cupboards yesterday, she was hoping the same magical rat that resurrected her bank account would fill the fridge with food in the night, but alas, still empty. She checked the clock again. 8:45. She did some mental math, figuring out that if Eri slept for the usual ten hours a child her age should sleep, she’ll have about an hour to rush to the nearest convenience store and buy something, anything to make breakfast out of.
She checked on Eri to make sure she’s okay, wrote a small note saying where she was going, and left for the entrance. Walking around the school grounds, she remembered the path to the main entrance. It was a large gate, decorated in an old architectural style typical for 21st century buildings, with one large gate connected to the asphalt road and two smaller ones on each side. Located on the right edge of the gate was a small building, presumably with the guards in it. She walked up to that building, the guard inside sitting in a chair watching at the four screens depicting the gates from several angles. He looked through the window on the building, seeing Kaina approach, and opened the window. “Hello Ma'am, how may I help you?”
“Yeah, can you open the door? I wanna go to a store,” Kaina replied.
“Sure, may I have your faculty card?”
Nowhere in the documents was there a mention of any faculty card. She scrambled for her wallet, about to reach for her identity card, hoping that would suffice, when someone came to her rescue.
“Oh don't worry, she's with me,” said someone from behind Kaina. It was an older gentleman, towering in height, but scraggly and worn in appearance. His blonde hair, forming two long front facing ponytails which looked like ribbons, complimented his baggy bright yellow suit and blue eyes.
“Oh, of course Mister Toshinori,” said the guard, “ come on through.” He opened the gate, letting Yagi and Kaina through. As she was passing, she noticed one of the cameras moving after her and Yagi as she was passing through. Suspicious of the movement but not overly fussed by it, she turned her head to Toshinori, who was slightly smiling.
She decided to start the conversation herself, as she didn't know the directions to any stores nearby. “Thank you for helping me out there, I didn't get my card yet, so I couldn't get through.”
The scraggly man replied: “Ah, don't fret about it, I just help out wherever I can. Say young lady, where exactly are you going?”
“I wanted to go to buy groceries.”
“This early in the morning?”
“Yeah, I didn't have time yesterday.”
“Makes sense considering your situation. Do you know the way there?”
“No.”
“Then I'll help you out. Follow me.”
She followed as he led her through the streets, catching up behind him, as despite his seeming age he had a fast walking speed. Eventually they were stopped on a crosswalk by a red light. Suddenly, she realized something.
“Wait a minute, how does me not having enough time to buy groceries yesterday make sense to you? How do you know about it? Who are you?”
He sighed. “My name is Yagi Toshinori, and I'm the head of the heroic faculty. I teach heroics to all the grades, but I've retired from heroism a while ago. Nezu told me about your situation in advance, and consulted me on whether he should offer you the job or not.”
The red light turned on, and they moved across.
“But if you know who I am, why are you helping me? I'm a villain.”
“After you escaped Tartarus last week, you could have gone into hiding, not shown your face, disappear from the radar, and live your life out in peace on Okinawa. Did you do that? No. Instead you went out of your way to save a child from a villain, and not just any villain, but the last remaining heir to the 8 precepts mafia. Would a villain have done that?”
Kaina went quiet for a moment, looked solemnly at the ground, before replying: “A villain killed him after that, and didn't save the people killed in the battle.”
He looked at her with a surprised expression, confused at her pensiveness. “Well, I think that's a mistake of the moment, and I don't think anyone would blame you for not being able to prevent a villain with such a strong quirk from killing civilians right next to him. Anyways, we're here. Buy whatever you need, I'll wait here.” He leaned with his back against the wall of the shop, closing his eyes in thought.
She did her business quickly, buying enough food for a few days, as well as whatever utensils and cooking equipment she could find. As she walked to the cashier with an almost full shopping car, something caught her attention out of the corner of her eye. It was a white Narwhal plush, sitting in the middle of a basket full of other soft toys. She strolled over to the toy grabbing it. It was a defective toy, the buttons for its eyes being made of red plastic, and the horn being slightly off from the middle seam it's supposed to be at. It reminded her a lot of Eri.
Toshinori was looking through his phone, coughing occasionally, when the door opened and Kaina walked out with several heavy bags in her arms, and a Narwhal stuffed between her left arm and torso.
“Do you want help carrying these?” Asked the skeletal man.
“No, you already helped me enough. Besides, I don't think you could hold these for longer than a few minutes.”
“I'll let you know, I was the number one Hero before I retired!”
Nagant scoffed. “Yeah right, maybe of this district. You are no All Might.”
The old man looked offended from those words. “Hmmph. Give me those, they're too much from you.” He reached for some of the bags. Kaina tried to scurry away from him, but fatigue and the atrophied, long unused muscles weren't enough to stop the surprisingly athletic blonde from taking what he could fit in his palms. He took three of the five bags, and carried them with surprising ease.
The journey back was a lot quieter and a little faster, neither side really wanting to engage in conversation. Walking past the gates and back to her home, Kaina noticed again that the cameras were following her every move. Although rusty, her skills were still able to notice her surveyor. When Kaina arrived back home, she thanked Toshinori for his help again, who deflected it back, thanking her for the enjoyable walk. As he closed the door and left, she hid the toy in a drawer and immediately started scouting around the house for any hidden cameras or bugs.
The bathroom, kitchen, and her bedroom were all clean, but she found a suspicious small thing in the seat of the sofa. She took the newly bought knife and stabbed into it, pushing her hand into it, finding the object she was searching for. It was a miniature microphone and transmitter. She whispered into it: “Good try, rat,” before crushing it in her palms. Now, to make breakfast for Eri…
—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the screen, Nezu saw Lady Nagant trying her best to make an omelette, failing miserably, and trying again for the second time. He couldn't hear the progress, as she destroyed the microphone, but he could see it through the hidden camera. Of course, spying on what others are doing is invasive to her privacy, he understood it, but it was a necessary evil to make sure she didn't make any escape plans. Losing her would make the already agitated Comission absolutely furious, and potentially even close down UA in spite. He knew it was a gamble, but if it meant putting public scrutiny on the HSPC and saving the 40 people he knew were falsely imprisoned in Tartarus, so be it.
He poured himself another cup of tea, knowing that he would receive a visitor soon. And sure enough, he heard knocks on the door, knocking to the rhythm of the first three seconds of the American anthem. “Come in Snipe.”
The man entered the door, his mask hanging around the mask of his head, showing his face. His face wasn't very remarkable aside from a small scar on his lip, which is why he preferred wearing a gas mask while in costume.
“Hello Nedzu-san. Why did you call me again?”
He took a long sip from his tea. “Indeed I did. I wanted to discuss a little change in faculty, and wanted your opinion on it.”
“Woah, really? Shouldn't the teachers for the course all gather and discuss a potential newcomer if it came to it? Especially if it is a hero course faculty?”
“Indeed, but that's only if it's a full on teacher, not a teaching aide.”
“Understandable. So, who do you have in mind? And why consult me instead of All Might or Hound Dog?”
“Oh, because I already invited them, they just recently went to 2-A’s morning period, as for why you, well, I think it would be better to show you who I am talking about.”
Nezu clicked a button on his laptop, and took a sip of his tea. The gold plate on the front of his desk moved to the right, revealing a small rectangular opening, through which a small screen appeared. On it was the recording of the first few minutes of Aizawas morning class, welcoming the students to their second year at UA. Instead of briefing the students fully, he let the new assistant manage the students in his stead, who rapidly started an impromptu interview with her. Snipe, just like he predicted, was transfixed on the screen, his face betraying his confusion, concern, and slight awe.
“When is her next period?”
“She'll be assisting Vlad with 2-B’s first heroics class of the year, at the last period of the day. You can also-”, but his words fell on deaf ears, as Snipe ran out of the room. The rodent looked inside his cup, it was half full, or half empty. It seems like he underestimated Snipe’s excitement.
“I hope you'll be happy to meet him, Tsutsumi-chan. Oh how I love the taste of trolling in the morning.” The ursid laughed maniacally, which was heard by no one.
Notes:
If you may have noticed, one character is not where he is supposed to be. Kuroiro from canon's class 1-B made a cameo. I have decided that it would be funny if I swapped 5 random students between the classes.
Chapter 5: Inspirations
Summary:
Eri and Kaina have breakfast, and meet her biggest fan.

Chapter Text
Eri awoke in the dark, alone. Somewhere outside of the room she could hear cursing and metallic clangs. It seems like one of father’s projects was a failure. She sighed, getting ready for the usual day of operations. She got off the bed, stepping on the unusually warm floor, trying to hide behind it, away from the door. The noises stopped, and footsteps started moving towards the door. She closed her eyes, hoping that the bed frame and curtains could help hide her better. The door opened, letting light shine into the room. Eri trembled, he’ll find her soon. She saw the large figure behind the curtains, moving directly towards her. It stood right in front of her hiding place, crouching down, reaching for the curtains edges. She saw the fingers, looks like he took off his gloves, ready to start the surgery already, tears swelled in the corner of her eyes. Suddenly, the hand moved the curtains away, and a voice said: “Peek-a-boo!”
It was Miss Kaina, her face happy , expecting Eri to play along. But instead, she cried, thinking father was toying with her. “BWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH”
In a hurried voice, she sushed: “Imsorry I’m so sorry, baby, I didn’t want to scare you, I thought you were playing with me.” Miss Kaina wrapped her hands around her, in the same comforting way she did yesterday. Eri continued to cry, but was muffled by her guardian's body. For some reason, it felt different when Miss Kaina did it than when Izuku-san did it. A lot more cozy, more comforting, like this was the safest place on earth, and Father could never take her.
Her cry fizzled out, reduced to stray sobs and hiccups. Miss Kaina kept comforting her, whispering “It’s okay baby, I’m sorry” to her. Eventually she stopped crying all together, and wiped the tears from her eyes. Miss Kaina picked her up, and took her to the more brightly lit living room. They sat down on the couch, and Kaina pressed her lips against her forehead while making a weird sucking sound.
“What were you hiding from Baby?”, asked Miss Kaina. Eri wanted to cry again, but held in the sniffles and tears, and answered honestly.
“There were weird noises coming from outside the bedroom, and the veils were closed, so Eri thought father found me and took me back in my sleep.” Miss Kaina’s mood soured, Eri could tell, but she tried her best to hide that fact from Eri. Eri knew at this point that she screwed up. Miss Kaina was probably mad at her now that she questioned her work. Almost instinctively, Eri curled up and closed her eyes, preparing for the punishment that was surely awaiting her.
Instead, Miss Kaina sighed, and put her hands on her head, patting it slowly. Eri didn’t know what to think of this. It didn’t hurt, in fact she really liked it when the hand bigger than her face touched down on her scalp. But Eri was confused as to whether this was a punishment or not. Maybe she was just not hitting hard enough? “Do you want to see what I was doing? I promise, it has nothing to do with blood.”
Eri nodded curiously. Her guardian led her over to the kitchen, and Eri saw that the kitchen was a mess. Smoke came out of a big flatish metal cup, but the handle was straight, and it stood on the black thing that Miss Kaina told her not to touch. Miss Kaina Kaina put on a big fluffy glove with all the fingers except for the thumb squished together into a nub, and lowered the metal cup down to Eri’s level so she could see the insides. Inside, was a mess of yellow, black, and white bits and pieces, glistening from a fatty sheen. “These are scrambled eggs Eri. I was gonna make several for breakfast for both of us, but I had trouble remembering how to make one. Want to try it.”
Eri gave a nod, and within a few minutes they were both at the table. Miss Kaina brought weird looking metal sticks and plates, putting one of each type of stick next to the plate. She put the scrambled eggs on both their plates, but gave the black bits only to herself. “Miss Kaina, I want some of those too,” asked Eri.
Miss Kaina replied: “Those aren’t meant for eating. If it is black then it means that I screwed up when making them.”
“What are these sticks?”, the little girl pointed at the weird sticks.
“Those are utensils sweety. You use them to eat food. Do you know how to use them?” Eri shook her head.
“Well, you put the fork, the one with four little pointy ends, in the left hand, and the knife, the long one with a big edge, in the right.” Miss Kaina demonstrated what she was saying, putting the tools in between her index and middle finger. “You stab your food with the fork, and then start cutting the food with the knife.” She demonstrated the correct way to do it to Eri, making it look like she was doing it as easy as walking. Eri grabbed both the utensils with her hands, but struggled to hold onto them, being a little too big to fit in between her fingers. She shakily tried to copy her guardians movement, managing to stab a piece of the food, but failing to properly cut it off, as she kept dropping her knife.
“If you’re having trouble, you can always-”
“NO NO NO!”, yelled Eri, “I can do it.” She tried her best to try and eat, but it just didn’t feel right. The knife felt wobbly to use and not strong enough to cut through this very soft food, aiming it was a nightmare. Her guardian noticed her struggles, and told her: “Maybe try swapping which hand you hold them in?” Eri tried it, and suddenly the simple act of using the utensils became a lot easier. She cut off the egg bits, and put them in her mouth. It tasted fatty, a lot like the pizza she tried yesterday, but instead of being mild and sweet it tasted mild and rich. She liked eggs a lot more than she liked pizza. She ate fast, finishing her food before Miss Kaina could even get a few bites in.
“Slow down a bit Eri, or you’ll forget to chew and choke.”
“But I like how it tastes.”
Miss Kaina looked elated by that comment: “It does?”
Eri nodded excitedly, and the sides of Miss Kaina’s mouth moved upward. Eri wondered what it meant.
—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaina was concerned. She spent the past two days trying to make Eri feel comfortable and safe around her, and yet she never once laughed, smiled, or even had a positive expression on her face. She says she liked the food but not once has her face shown it. Eri’s casefile, situated with the files of the students, was nearly empty, as all but her blood type was unknown. She refused to speak about her quirk, and when some student during their lunch asked about it she called it a ‘disease’. Kaina wished she knew what was going on. Maybe one of the two hero students who helped Eri knew something.
She looked over to Eri. She was watching an episode of a cartoon, an educational show about wildlife. She stared with the same deadpan expression she usually wears. She still had to look into the lesson plans for this week and properly read the files for 2-A, but that could wait a bit, she wouldn’t have to meet them until Wednesday at least. Walking over to the couch, she sat down next to Eri, who after noticing her arrival leaned on Kaina. Kaina in return started stroking her head and fiddling with her hair, much to Eri’s unseen enjoyment.
Kaina sat there for a while, enjoying the kids' company. She checked on her clock, and saw that she had to go to the heroics lesson with 2-B now. Not wanting to leave Eri behind, she asked her: “Hey Eri, do you want to go on a trip today?”
Eri looked straight into Kaina’s eyes with an inquisitive look, or at least as inquisitive as she could tell. “What will we do?”
“Well, you won’t really be doing anything. I’m going to go teach some kids, and you will watch. After that I’ll get you a surprise!” Kaina was hoping that would cheer her up, maybe make her smile, but Eri still looked apprehensive, and just muttered “Okay.” to her. The door rang, and they both went over to the door. She was expecting to see Vlad King, 2-B’s homeroom teacher, but instead found a cowboy with a gas mask holding a briefcase. He was rather tall, amplified by his large cowboy hat, and his head was tilted down to properly look at her.
His voice was muffled through the mask, but it had a semi-japanese semi-american accent, “Hello m’lady. We haven’t met, so allow me to introduce myself. My name’s Snipe, the marksman hero, and I am your biggest fan. I’m so excited that I-”
A deeper masculine voice yelled from behind Snipe: “SNIPE, STOP RUNNING OFF.” It belonged to Vlad King, the actual person Kaina was expecting, who wasn’t seen, but presumed to be trying to catch up to Snipe on the ground floor. “I told you that you should wait for me, you don’t know how she’ll react to a fan!”
The tall man simply rubbed the back of his head, saying: “Sorry, I got caught up in the moment there. But like this is the woman I dedicated my entire career to!” Nagant didn’t know what to say to this, but Eri did. “Are you a robot?” asked the little girl, which got a hearty laugh out of Snipe. By now Vlad King had caught up to Snipe, with his bandaged arm, and his angry face softening up upon seeing Kaina and Eri.
“I’m sorry for his behaviour Ms. Nagant,” said Vlad King, “he just approached me a few minutes ago and asked me if he could help escort you to the training facility. Didn’t know he’d run off like this.”
“It’s okay,” replied Kaina, “can I take Eri with me? I don’t think I can leave her alone for long.”
He thought about it for a second. “Sure. You’re lucky that Nejire is the one who’s going to demonstrate today instead of Mirio, that boy just refuses to use his costume.”
—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the way to the training grounds, Snipe continued to bombard her with questions and rants, reminiscent of when Midoriya first met her out of costume. Vlad continuously snickered at her situation, but otherwise abstained from conversing. But at least she could use this to her advantage. She stopped zoning out and listened to Snipe’s ranting:“...and then when i tried to import from America, the assholes at TSA told me ’you need to be personally there to transport the weapon and declare your intentions with it’, as if I hadn’t specifically bought through import because they wouldn’t accept work as a reason. I had to go through the HPSC and you know that they're somehow even more bureaucratic than the Americans are.”
“Damn. I never had the issue, my guns on me all the time,” replied Kaina. “But I do have a question about that. You said you were inspired by me to be a hero right?”
“Yep. Was your biggest fan, even ran the Nagant fanblog at the time. Though those guys were a bit weird, they kept commenting about your boo-”
“Ok I don’t need to hear about that. Where are the other fans from the blog then? Surely there’s somebody else who remembers who I was. ”
“Uhhm. Unfortunately, those weirdos are the only ones left. After your arrest, most of them scattered, saying that they didn’t want to support a murderer. But I know those bastards are lying! I know they framed you for that murder, they just needed a scapegoat to get rid of someone they didn’t want to use anymore.”
It was a bit flattering yet disheartening at the same time to hear that someone still believes she’s a good person, even if they’re being completely delusional. Eri, who had been quiet during their walk, being unfamiliar and slightly uncomfortable around new people, decided to chime in now. “And then they took Miss Kaina to prison after she saved Eri! They are being so mean to her.”
Despite the cuteness, she needed to stop that thought process before she got too zealous like Snipe. “Now Eri, I did a bad thing and I got punished appropriately for it. I killed someone, which means I’m a very bad person, so I had to go to prison.”
That got Eri angry. “But Father was an even worse person! He beat his friends, and he fed Eri tasteless grey cheese every day, and he-he…” Eri stopped, deep in a traumatic memory. She started crying again, so Kaina picked her up and hugged her. She was very light, way too light for a kid her age, but considering what she said about her diet before getting rescued, malnourishment was only natural. She tried to reassure her: “It’s okay baby, you don’t have to say anything more if you don’t want to.”
But Eri steeled her resolve. “No, I want to say. It’s just, every time I want to say it I remember him doing it to me and it hurts so much.”
“Did he touch you somewhere you didn’t like?”
“He touched my chest and then it hurt so much, and then there was a b-bunch of b-blood, and everything would have moved and he would be w-working on something with his vials. He would tell me to e-eat the grey eggs, and if I refused to eat them he would hit me. And then whe-when I would eat it, he would touch me again and it would h-hurt”
The stutter was bad enough, but what she said was even worse. She recalled from the fight she had that the man seemed to have a 5 point activation quirk that seemed to warp material around his hands, and how when he slammed into the ground giant spikes would appear from the ground. She thought about how it would look if used on human flesh, but nearly puked at the imagery. And to have that happen to little Eri as well. Before she could fully process, Vlad King announced: “We are here, training facility B. Thank you for escorting us Snipe, but we don;t require you anymore.”
“Ah’s no problem Kan, I should be thanking you for giving me the opportunity to meet my Idol.” replied Snipe, as he turned around and waved. “Bye Miss Nagant. Bye Eri.”
“Bye bye Mister Robot!” replied Eri. She seemed to have grown a liking to Snipe, sharing his sentiment of Lady Nagant being treated unfairly. But now that he had left she was back to being squirmy and uncomfortable, especially as Kan opened the door, revealing the 2-B students all sprawled around the room conversing.
The class representative, a girl named Kendo, noticed their teacher's arrival, put her fingers together and whistled. The students quickly went to their seats, and Kendo reported on the status of the class, much to Kan’s enjoyment.
“Good job Kendo,” said Kan,” for today's Heroics lesson we will cover work-studies. Some of you already got your provisional licenses and Tokoyami is currently having one with Hawks, good job on that.” The bird haired kid simply nodded in acknowledgement of the compliment, while his quirk thanked the Blood hero. “But for the rest of you, I have called in the top three students of UA to cover it. They’re a bit late though, probably trying to herd in Nejire.”
One of the students, a blonde student with a lazy look on his face, Monoma if she remembered correctly, asked: “ Pardon me for interrupting Vlad-sensei, but it seems that you have brought someone to the classroom with you. May we please at least find out her name and what her deal is?”
“Of course, I almost forgot. This is Lady Nagant, retired hero, she’ll be assisting me and Eraserhead with heroics and homeroom. The 2-A students got her during the morning free period, and I was supposed to introduce her tomorrow morning, but I have a visit to the hospital soon and decided that she might as well get to know you guys.”
A bird headed student asked: “Does this have anything to do with your injuries from the USJ incident sensei?”
“No,” Kan said while rubbing his bandaged elbow, ”but it is a massive relief. Lightens up my workload, although she probably won’t be doing that much work, I know Aizawa will load up all the homeroom duties onto her.”
Monoma asked again: “Why did you retire? You don’t seem all that old, and I’ve heard Gran Torino is still active.”
“I went to Tartarus for murder charges.” Kaina replied bluntly. Just like with 2-A this got the students interested, but unlike 2-A, she didn’t have the luxury of throwing all the responsibility of answering questions onto Midoriya, so she had to answer herself. Luckily for her, she got bailed out with the arrival of the Big Three. Surprisingly, she knew one of them, it was Mirio, the other student who saved Eri.
“Hello Mr Vlad King! Excuse us for the delay, but we had to find Nejire, as she got a little lost.” he said in his ever cheerful voice. His school uniform was his free clothing, but with the UA jacket on top of it. He was followed by a moody looking hunched over teenager with dark blue hair, who looked like he was related to Shinsou, and a bubbly looking girl with spiraling twintails and a bandage on her cheek.
“Hellooooooo everybody!”, said the bubbly girl, “My name is Nejire, and I’m supposed to beat you guys up today!”
Notes:
I forgot to add this when I first posted but just in case you missed it: Yes, 2-B was indeed present during the USJ. This is one of three changes I made to the timeline. The next and last one will be revealed next chapter

Chapter Text
Mirio in his infinite courteousness managed to calm down the students from Nejire’s blunt exclamation, and even explained the benefits of work-study, but Nejire hammered it into the heads of the students. Some students managed to put up a bit of a fight, Monoma and his combo-copying of his classmates' quirks managed to last the longest, but as soon as his 5 minutes were done he was open for attack, which Nejire easily took advantage of.
“Aw, I was hoping you guys would be a little more prepared. Especially since some of you have your provisional licenses already.” She said, walking over to help the two boys stuck in a wall, who complimented her combat abilities by calling them manly.
“UA lets the first years get provisional licenses?” asked Kaina, standing to the side with Mirio and Tamiki. She was silently impressed by some of the students' performance.
“No actually,” answered Mirio, who was crouching to play pat-a-cake with Eri, “but they were a special case. Some of the students found out about the exams on their own and registered early. All of them except for one passed, and two of them are already in a work-study program. Eraserhead and Vlad King were impressed with their initiative.” His face caught one of Eri’s palms that missed Mirio’s. He didn’t react to the small slap, while Eri was being overly apologetic over the accident.
Just as Nejire helped the last person get up, the door to the gym banged open, and a familiar skeletal man walked into the room. “I am sorry everybody, got distracted on the way here.” Toshinori was wearing a yellow and black striped suit, matching his hair colour.
Lady Nagant asked: “Toshinori? What are you doing here? I thought All Might led the Heroics class?”
2-B and the Big Three all looked at her like she said the sky was pink, and Toshinori’s face soured. Mirio was the one to ask the question on every student's mind. “Do you not know?”
“Know what?”
“Toshinori-sensei is All Might”
She looked Toshinori up and down again. He did have the same blue eyes All Might had, and the bangs remind her of the iconic antennae, but his skin and bone build was completely different to the walking American flag. “Really? What the hell happened to make you look like that?”
Toshinori somberly replied: “I fought my archrival for one final time around winter, to save young Tokoyami from being captured by the League of Villains. I had to sacrifice every last bit of power I had, and now I can't even use my quirk anymore. But at least now the quirk thief is finally in jail.”
That last sentence came out in a more optimistic tone, much to Kaina's chagrin, as she knew that it wasn't true, at least anymore. “By the quirk thief, do you mean the underground trafficker All For One?”
“Yes, why?”
“Came to finish the mission you failed ay, Lovely Miss Nagant? Heh heh heh, my own life doesn't matter anymore, as I already have created my masterpiece to take down those filthy thief's for good. Take a good look Kaina Tsutsumi, and remember. One last kill.”
“He is no longer alive. He was executed by the Tartarus wardens. Security malfunction.” She bent the truth, just enough to make that disgusting grin disappear from her memory. Toshinori stared wide eyed, processing the information, before yelling out “YESSSS!” He jumped, throwing his fist in the air, before landing back down and falling to his knees, coughing out blood. Mirio rushed in to support him as he fell, using Permeation to propel himself faster and catch him before he broke anything. “Nana, you're avenged. You're finally avenged,” he sobbed out, happy tears flowing to the ground.
Mirio helped him stand back up, the class staring in bewilderment. All Might calmed down after a few moments, and realised he was in class, before promptly announcing: “Class, I'm going home to celebrate. Class is dismissed, you can go to your dorms early.” Some cheered, while others looked even more confused. Kendo went in front of the students and said: “All Might sensei are you sure? Aren't we supposed to review our performance?”
“Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Lady Nagant, can you please help them out? If you don't mind, I think my stomach is giving out and I need to see the Nurse’s office.” He walked out faster than Nagant could protest. Luckily, the students didn’t complain as she walked through the mistakes in their combat, teamwork, and quirk usage, and Monoma in particular revelled in being able to experience this before the 2-A’s, which resulted in a chop to the back of the head from Kendo. At least they were willing to learn.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the week went by uneventfully compared to Day One. Kaina and Eri continued living together, and while Kaina had some troubles with cooking, she slowly got the hang of it after 15 years of prison. Eri always complimented her cooking, but never showed it, and refused to talk about her quirk in any way. She continued having nightmares every night, and always got comforted when Kaina went to sleep with her. Kaina needed it herself, as she started to also suffer from nightmares, reopened by meeting one of her inspirations for going down this path.
She had expected classwork to be challenging, having no experience, but it turned out way easier than expected. She was the teaching aide to homeroom and Heroics, which meant that her duties were absolutely minimal. All she had to do was come to class at 8, take a headcount, and then sit for one hour in the afternoon in an office guiding the kids on what to do. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays she would go out towards the end of the day to help in the heroics class, Mondays and Fridays having the two classes separately and on Wednesday they had a combined class meant to improve their cooperation, but all it did was make Eraserhead and Vlad King argue, while Monoma was constantly instigating something against class 2-A. Bakugou and Todoroki in particular seemed to be his targets, but while the latter didn’t get most of his antics, Bakugou got angry and loud.
Unlike 2-B where Vlad King would take charge of his class, actually commentating on what his students could improve upon and what issues they have, Eraserhead didn't. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday she would arrive early in the morning, do the headcount, do whatever announcements Kan would do, and then watch as Aizawa crawled into the classroom like a caterpillar and fell asleep in a corner. Some students even made it a game of who can do the best impression of a wildlife documentary talking about “the nesting ritual of the giant yellow hobopillar.”
Her office hours were somewhere in the evening, around the time Eri took a nap, which was lucky for her. So far the only people who came to her were Midoriya, a girl named Hatsume Mei, and Monoma asking questions about Nagants quirk. Despite his general dislike of 2-A, Midoriya was an exception, as they both shared a near fanatical obsession with quirks. Lady Nagant also happened to be the only person with a complex quirk who was legally required to answer any questions they have, as they claimed it would help in a school project that she believed was non-existent. Their enthusiasm started to both grow on her and annoy her at the same time.
From Midoriya she also learned that Eri’s quirk was Rewind, a powerful time manipulation quirk that could turn anything back to its prior state with just a touch. Unfortunately, Eri was incredibly scared of using it, and not because of its power, but because she believed it was a ‘disease.’ It took Kaina and Midoriya all week to convince her to use it once on a test plant to see its potency, and within just a few minutes the flower shrank significantly. The strength of this quirk was evident, but why exactly Overhaul needed it and why he convinced Eri that quirks were a disease was still a mystery she hoped would clear up sooner rather than later.
On Friday it was 2-A who got their fill of the work-study demonstration, Midoriya being absent because he already was in one, much to the complaint of his classmates. This time, Mirio was the one to demonstrate, and luckily Eri didn't want to go with Nagant, because Mirio’s very first move resulted in him being naked. The A class fared worse than the B’s, getting folded in under four minutes compared to B’s five. However, compared to B where Monoma had to fight alone to extend his class’s time by nearly two minutes, Bakugou, Kuroiro, and Todoroki managed to work together to make Mirio break a sweat.
Eventually Saturday came, and a full week had passed since she was freed from Tartarus. It also meant that she soon had to do the HPSC required patrol. She had already convinced Midoriya and Mirio to look after Eri for the few hours she would be gone, and would be joining Midnight, not having a clear idea of what the city looked like and needing UA staff oversight to leave the school grounds. She was hoping it would be uneventful, but she hoped the same for her original escape attempt.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Shie Hassakai’s corridors were colder and darker than the bar, but it made for a fitting supervillain atmosphere. Shigaraki was directionless ever since his master crippled the final boss and his fire mage left, but he managed to take initiative and take control of these middle tier peons with their boss gone. He would be grateful to that purple haired rogue for killing off this pain in the side before he became a problem, if she didn’t also take the important child NPC needed for the production of the legendary rarity quirk nullifying bullets. But oh well, they were more dangerous than it was worth, the new leader of the Shie Hassakai would attest to that. The rest of his party were off making themselves at home, but he needed to take care of important business first.
The mahogany door squeaked open, clearly not having been properly taken care of despites its luxuriousness. The lavish and well furnished bedroom was pristine and would make for a great meeting room, but he needed to get rid of the only occupant first. Said occupant was an elderly man with grey hair, laying unconscious in the bed, an IV drip attached to his arm. He walked over, taking off the glove that Mustard gifted to him. “I don’t know who you are,” his raspy voice said, “yet I know that you would not approve of this decision. You were probably that asshole's Master, and it would be a shame if you outlived him. But don’t worry, you won’t have to for much longer. DIE. ” he touched the old man's face, turning his body to dust and blood almost instantly. The destruction spread to the IV as well, turning half the pole to dust before it stopped.
“That’s progress, BUT NOT ENOUGH.” He slammed his arms against the bad, disintegrating it upon impact. He needed to become even stronger than this, especially if he needed a lucky event to progress through the main story. Dabi had already left because progress was too slow, and Kurogiri got captured during All Might’s raid.
“You just saw that fight didn’t you? Even your ‘all powerful’ master got beaten senseless by All Might, and you guys couldn’t do jack. How are you supposed to help me get Endeavour if you can’t even handle a crippled All Might? Forget it”
He was running out of options and party members, he needed to evolve fast. He had to negotiate with the Doctor. He opened his phone, calling the account called ‘Dentist’. He needed to use conslang if he didn’t want to get discovered by the cheating scouts of the Heroes.
“Hello? What do you want?”
“I want to schedule a check up appointment.”
The line was silent for a moment, Shigaraki waiting for the Doctor’s response. Suddenly, extreme nausea overwhelmed him, some sort of sludge coming out of the back of his throat, keeling over, before the well lit bedroom turned to a dark medical cabinet, with bright blue vats around the illuminating central computer. The Doctor, an ancient short man with a split grey haircut, was sitting in a chair turned away from Shigaraki, with a frog like Nomu sitting on the computer desk.
“Young heir, good that you finally came in contact. I have some bad news about our master.”
“What?”
“You see, we keep quirks that he copies on flesh disk, keeping them alive through my science. They are of course dangerous, but nothing unmanageable. But one in particular was incredibly important, the disk with All For One.”
He had a bad feeling about this. “What are you saying?”
“He wanted you to inherit his empire, and the best way to do that was to become him. He ordered me to give you his quirk when you proved yourself, but didn’t want it to be found and used against himself by someone.” ‘No’ ” So he put a failsafe, that if he were to die the disk would die.” ‘No’ ” We thought that his international reputation would save him for at least long enough for you to get it, but it seems we were mistaken.”
“NOOOOOOOO.” The rage he felt was inconceivable. Those disgusting heroes killed the only person who was willing to help him all those years ago, when the heroes ignored his pleas. They. Will. PAY.
“What do I have to do to prove myself?”
“Just two things. Make Gigantomachia see you as his new master, and become the most dangerous villain in Japan. Once you’ve done that, I’ll give you an army of Nomus, and enhance both your and whatever allies you want with enhanced bodies and new quirks. For now, regroup, I will send you the location later. Jonny, return him to where he came from.”
Shigaraki felt the same nausea he felt when he got teleported before, but this time, he had an angry taste to it. Dabi. All Might. That damn brat Midoriya. They will ALL learn what destruction truly means.
Notes:
Just to clarify: Yes, Kaina did in fact kill AFO in a deal to get out of Tartarus. Though he was an irredeemable monster she doesn't know that, so she believes she just killed an incredibly powerful man that the Comission labelled as the Devil for his abilities
Chapter 7: Hiatus
Chapter Text
Hello, Author here, sorry for the long time since update. I have been on a severe streak of depression this year, sorry for not writing at all. I am announcing a hiatus for this story for at least a few months. Once I'll come back, I'll also probably rewrite the already existing chapters to be more clear to the vision I have of this story, as I have failed to show what I wanted to show from these characters. In particular, I feel like I left out a few to many things and tried to course correct in the 5th and 6th chapter. Thank you fkr reading my beginner level slop :)
