Cavalcade of Nintendo prompts: Donkey Kong

Summary:

It's on like Donkey Kong! As he's my next entry in the Nintendoverse I created where several Nintendo and Rare franchises exist in the same universe.

And our fav gorilla character is going to give them the good old Banana Slammer!

Chapter 1: Three gens of DK and mates

Chapter Text

Let’s take a look at the legacy of the holders of the name Donkey Kong in my universe.

 

 

Cranky Kong – The original Donkey Kong and King of Kongs. He was mistaken for a feral gorilla and taken from his home and locked in a New Donk Zoo. He broke out and went on a rampage which was stopped by Jumpman Jacopo Mario (the Mario Bros.’ grandfather). Pauline’s grandmother, Donna Rosso was also involved in the events. In the end, Jacopo and Donna realize the Kong was sentient, lashing out for his kidnapping and they helped him return home.

 

Currently acts as an advisor to his grandson and current King of the Kongs, Donkey Kong III. Though he is greatly annoyed by him and his showboating carefree nature, he cares deeply for his grandson.

 

 

Wrinkly Kong – Formerly known as Queen Lily Kong. Grandmother of Donkey Kong III, Mother of Donkey Kong Jr. and Cranky’s wife. Unlike the games she doesn’t become a ghost and is still alive.

 

 

Pappy Kong – Aka Donkey Kong Jr. Formerly saved his father Cranky from the Jumpman’s evil brother Wladimiro. Wladimiro would be disowned by the Mario family. His grandchildren are Wario and Waluigi, but they are more conmen and troublemakers then outright criminals.

 

Pappy Kong is the one whom saved a young Pauline from the underground world and defeated King K. Rool for the first time after the ancient evil King was released from his prison. I did this to have Donkey Kong Bananza make sense in the timeline of this Marioverse.

 

He would go missing alongside his wife trying to stop the Ghastly King, a demonic entity, sacrificing himself to push him into a seal. During my adaptation of Jungle Beat, the Ghastly King resurfaces using Pappy Kong’s body as a vessel and brainwashes the four Guardians (Dread Kong, Karate Kong, Sumo Kong and Ninja Kong) whom are supposed to watch over his seal.

 

Donkey Kong III, the current Donkey Kong, manages to beat the evil entity out of his father and reunite with him. He wanted to give Pappy Kong his title as king back but Pappy says DK III has earned the title.

 

 

Mommy Kong – Formerly an opponent of DK Jr., and known as Poppy Kong working for Void Co. However, him defeating her, showing him kindness where her boss didn’t and making her realize she didn’t want to cross certain lines, she would fall in love with him. Yes, Poppy Kong is DK III’s mother.

 

She has set up her own company with her brother in all but blood, Grumpy Kong. She went with her husband to stop the Ghastly King but vanished alongside him. Her protegee Bluster Kong took over her company in her absence.

 

After the Ghastly King was unsealed and took Pappy Kong as a vessel, he had Poppy become the vessel for another demon, the Cactus Queen. However, like with his father, Donkey Kong III was able to knock the demonic entity out of his mother after a difficult battle and reunite the family.

 

 

Donkey Kong III – The current Donkey Kong. The one whom is a vitriolic bud/Friendly rival to the Mario Bros. Whom looked up to Pauline as a big sister as she was still close to his dad and she was considered a honorary Kong. The protagonist of the remaining Kong games in my universe.

 

Often mistaken for an idiot, he is actually quite clever. He just has an easy going and fun loving attitude and tends to showboat, but def a lot smarter than he lets on. He also has a good set of pipes for singing

 

 

Candy Kong – Fiancée of Donkey Kong III. She has her personality from the games, but used to work in Bluster’s barrel factory before she left that awful job to open her own music store.

 

Once Mommy Kong reclaimed her company she demotes Bluster and has Candy help run her company while also making sure her music shop is taken care off.

Chapter 2: A bit of K. Rool history

King Keith ‘Krudd’ Rool was once a Pirate Lord whom made the waters around Kong Island unsafe. He was not only big, cruel and strong, he has also mastered the dark arts and was a technical genius. No longer content to merely plunder and enrich himself, he instead wanted to conquer, going from a Captain to a King.

 

Roping the rest of the Kremling race in his escapades, he gathered an armada. After destroying his own home island by plundering its resources, he set his sights on Kong Island.

 

A young Cranky Kong, back then the original Donkey Kong, fought him off. Several times K. Rool was defeated by the ape monarch. As his own power wouldn’t prove enough he set his sights on the Banandium Root. However, he and his people became trapped underground due to the security around the Banandium root.

 

The second Donkey Kong, Cranky’s son would go in the Underground layers to gather Banandium, the material capable of replenishing the banana trees healthier then ever after Cranky’s war with K. Rool doing damage to the islands. That led to a series of events which led DK Jr. to team up with the human girl Pauline, fight Void Co, meet his future wife…and accidentally unsealing K. Rool in the process.

 

  1. Rool would recognize Jr. as the son of the original and they had a fight over the Banandium root which Jr. won, and K. Rool was beaten by yet another generation of Kongs.

 

When Jr. And Poppy went missing, he thought the islands to be easy pickings…Yet there is another third Donkey Kong whom gets in the way all the time. After a long time, K. Rool just fell into a depression for a few years.

 

Until at one point he simply couldn’t take it anymore and gathered several bigshot villains: Tiki Tong (revived him), Void Kong (a true enemy of my enemy thing though he still remembers the punch), the Snomad Lord Fredrik, the alien sorcerer Wizpig, the Ghastly King (providing a new vessel for him) and Captain Skurvy.

 

This alliance proved to be really tough as all the Kongs were pushed to the limit with the obstacles they faced. DK Jr./Pappy Kong and Poppy/Mommy Kong had reunited with their son and taught DK III how to use the Bananza powers that his father used, plus a few more.

 

  1. Rool though wasn’t done. In the end he obtained the Banandium Root, the Crystal Coconut and turned on his comrades and stole their powers and gained an upgraded form from the King of Rot…the Emperor of Decay. Not even DK’s strongest Bananza forms were strong enough.

 

However, Donkey Kong III had an idea and set up a concert with Pauline. He made a rousing speech as the King of Kong Island to its inhabitants, his friends and allies. He and his fellow Kongs pulled out their instruments, Pauline put her pipes to use once again and DK shared the power of Bananza with all of his friends and subjects. The whole Bananzafied Kong Island population was able to whittle down Emperor K. Rool before DK landed the final blow, separating the Banandium root and Crystal Coconut from K. Rool and sending him flying to the moon. Literally.

 

The villains he betrayed got re-empowered and they cheered for K. Rool’s demise…before the still Bananzafied population descended upon them and curbstomped them.

 

In the end we see a celebration of Kong Island’s victory, the villains in Kong Island jail…except K. Rool whom is stuck on the moon, growling to himself that those no-good peanut brains of the Kremling crew better get him off the moon quickly…only to cut to his minions trying to build a rocket, but as they try to read the instruction manual, they have been stuck on step one for an hour.

Chapter 3: A bit about the DK Country game adaptations

In my versions of Donkey Kong II and III Donkey Kong wasn’t kidnapped.

 

In my version of DK Country II, he, Diddy and Dixie alike went out to confront K. Rool together.

 

In my version of DK III we don’t have Kiddy Kong, because the kid is a freakin’ baby. So it was a team of Donkey, Dixie, Diddy and Tiny Kong whom went out.

 

Kiddy Kong still exists, and he is composited with Baby Kong from the Cartoon, but he is too young to get involved in any action.
