Chapter Text
This wasn’t how this was meant to go. None of it was supposed to happen like this. All he wanted was a fair fight, guess he got that fight but didn’t land a single attack.
He had never seen Deku react like this ever. Katsuki wasn’t even looking at Deku, he could only stare at the ground as his ears started ringing. When did that start happening? Oh yeah, when he was punched in the face by Deku.
It all happened so fast, that he couldn’t even tell when the yelling started. He didn’t care, so he silently walked into the changing room and began the process of changing. Starting with his gym top he slowly took it off, looking at all the scars he got from the attacks he had dealt with.

It was supposed to be a simple lesson but of course, the two biggest problems children had to start something. Shota had no idea what caused Midoriya to snap, he was too exhausted to deal with this.
Were Bakugou and Midoriya truly rivals? Honestly, at this point, Shota could care less, but what Midoriya said stuck with him. Had the problem child tried to kill himself? He would ask Nedzu if they could do an investigation on the middle school that Midoriya and Bakugou went to.
But for now Shota just left the gym and headed back to the classroom, he couldn’t deal with Iida’s lectures. Lost in thought he had made it to the classroom. He entered it silently and got into his sleeping bag for a well-deserved nap.

Izuku had rushed back to the dorms. He thought he was finally getting close to Kacchan, and he did. What a joke that was, Kacchan had no reason to say that. He wasn’t the same worthless Deku as before.
He had entered his room and locked the door behind him, he honestly didn’t care if Iida scolded him later. He just wanted to shut the world out for a while. He just had to get the voices in his head to shut up.
After years of chasing after Kacchan, this was possibly the biggest ‘fuck you’ he has ever gotten. He finally had enough, it took him this long to realize something. That if Kirishima was able to befriend Kacchan that meant that Kacchan was always capable of change. And that Izuku wasn’t worth changing for.
Walking over to a drawer he pulled out a photo album, opening it up he looked through the photos of the two growing up. Izuku finally landed on a photo titled ‘Day We Became Best Friends.’ The photo was of Izuku and Kacchan hugging while wearing flower crowns that Izuku had made. Izuku remembers that day like it was yesterday, it was the day before Kacchan got his quirk.
Izuku knew what was to blame for him losing his best friend, it was that quirk. Izuku never asked to be born without a quirk, all Izuku asked for was to become the greatest hero duo with Kacchan growing up. How naïve he was back then. Kacch- no Bakugou never wanted to be his friend. The sooner he realized this the better.
He grabbed the photo album and threw it away. Bakugou was only holding him back, he didn’t need him anymore. He blocked Bakugou’s number. Izuku needed to get away, he had to.
Since tomorrow was Saturday, he decided to go visit his mom. It’s been a while since he visited her. Maybe this could help him clear his head.

The fight was awful, nobody saw it coming. Bakugou and Midoriya were sparing as usual but then it happened. Bakugou was starting to get annoyed that Midoriya was dodging all of his attacks.
“Come on Deku! You seriously can’t dodge me all day!” Bakugou had said as he grabbed Midoriya’s sleeve and was preparing to throw him using his quirk.
Midoriya hadn’t said a single word during the whole match. He reworked his feet and kicked free from Bakugou's grip. Midoriya simply cracked his neck and finally decided to go on the offensive. He powered up One for All at 10% and rushed to Bakugou.
“Yes! Finally! Honestly, you can’t be that useless if you hesitated to even attack me!” Bakugou yelled as his hands started sparking as he got ready to block the attack, Midoriya threw a punch but Bakugou was able to dodge it, “Really Deku? You can’t even throw a good punch? At this rate, you’ll never become the number one hero, your worthless ass will just be a casualty in battle. You know, maybe if you didn’t hesitate to save others, you might be at least an average hero.”
“YOU DIDN’T FUCKING HESITATE TO TELL ME TO KILL MYSELF!” Izuku screamed as Shouto rushed up to him and got a hold of him, he needed to get a clean hit on Kacchan, he just had to.
Everyone else looked shocked as they heard this. Did Bakugou say this? When had he said this? And why? Unfortunately, Midoriya was hysterical, so they couldn’t get any answers from him.
“That was back in middle school! Why’s the big deal about it?” Katsuki had asked as he watched Deku loudly sobbing at this point, “It’s not like you did anything-“
“I did try!” Izuku screamed as he finally broke free from Shouto’s hold on him, running at Katsuki and landing a clean punch to the face.
Bakugou had landed on the ground with a thud, he just sat there and let Midoriya yell at him. Not caring if the others were trying to hold him back.
“I DID TRY! THE ONLY REASON I DIDN’T GO THROUGH WITH IT WAS TO SAVE YOUR UNGRATEFUL ASS!” Izuku finally said as he ran back to the dorms. He couldn’t be around anyone at the moment.
“Poor Deku-kun,” Uraraka said as she watched her best friend run away. She wanted so desperately to go and comfort him, but she knew he needed to cool off. For now, she turned her head to the others as they were all reacting to what they heard differently.
Kirishima was trying to defend Bakugou, saying that it was all in the past. Uraraka knew how close Kirishima and Bakugou had gotten over the year, but it was obviously why Deku-kun was secretly jealous of Kirishima’s friendship with the blonde.

Once classes had ended everyone had headed to the dorms, there was a tension in the air from the fight earlier. Nobody knew how to handle it. Bakugou immediately went to his dorm.
Iida had decided to try and lift the tension in the common room by suggesting an activity they could all do together as a class. The class eventually landed on a movie night, so they all gathered around the TV in the common room and started the movie.
Izuku came down the stairs so quietly not to be noticed. He was carrying a cardboard box full of stuff. He opened the front door to the dorms and slipped out. He started walking to Ground Beta so he could destroy the box properly.
Inside the box were all the small things that he and Bakugou made as kids, all before Bakugou got his quirk. The one thing he was excited to get rid of was a note that Bakugou wrote when Izuku got sick when he was 4 years old. Pulling the note out he decided to read it one last time before he destroyed it.
‘Hey Zuzu! The hag said you were sick so we couldn’t play today, if you wanna be a hero with me you have to get better! We can’t be the greatest hero duo if my best friend is sick! Sincerely Kacchan!’
Izuku had held onto this note since the day he got it. He wondered if Bakugou even remembers writing this, probably not.
Finally he had made it to Ground Beta, walking inside one of the fake buildings Izuku made his way up to the roof. Sitting on the ledge of the roof he slowly put the box next to him. He started crying again, he wished he wasn’t such a crybaby. Turning his back to the ledge he pulled out a lighter and burnt the note.
Watching as the letters on the note slowly turned to black was freeing for Izuku, like he was burning his horrible past. He wanted to burn the memories, he wasn’t Deku anymore, and he would never be Deku again. But that was his hero name, he’d have to ask Aizawa if he could change it. It wouldn’t be that hard, right?
The next thing burned was an old orange bunny plushie, small in size with red eyes. Bakugou had gotten it for Izuku on his 5th birthday. Izuku had gotten him a similar plushie on Bakugou’s birthday. Bakugou probably threw that away too. Know Bakugou, he’d most likely thrown out every single gift Izuku ever got him.
Izuku finally decided to just burn the whole box, throwing the lighter into the box he sat there and watched the box burn. To him, it wasn’t the box burning but also all of the pain and trauma that was done to him.

Katsuki had finally closed his dorm door, he went and flopped onto his bed. But something felt wrong like something was out of place. Then he saw a single photo on his desk, he sat up and gently grabbed it. Looking at the photo he instantly knew something happened. It was the photo of the day they became best friends, but written over Katsuki in the photo was the word ‘fake’. Who would do that in this photo? The only person he knew who had access to this photo was Deku. But Deku wouldn’t destroy anything of their friendship, right?
Katsuki had to talk to Deku, maybe they could work this out. But in his head, he knew it was impossible. He gently wiped the word off the photo and held it close to his chest, holding onto the only thing he had left of their practically dead friendship.
He grabbed his phone to try and call Deku, but he was shocked to find out that Deku had blocked his number. Now he knew he fucked up. Katsuki sighed as he tried calling Inko, she’d know what to do. He waited for her to pick up only for it to go to voice mail, “H-hey Auntie. I fucked up with De-Izuku…..I can’t get in contact with him, so I was wondering if you could talk to him about maybe meeting up so we could talk this out,” he said while barely hold back his tears, “I just need to talk to him, I wanna fix things between us. But I have no idea how. If you cou-“
Someone had answered the phone, but it wasn’t Inko. It was his mother, Katsuki could hear her sobbing loudly as he just sat there in shock. “Hag? Why are you over at Auntie’s place?”
“Katsuki, Inko’s dead. She passed away this morning,” Mitsuki said as she continued to cry, “I can’t get in contact with Izuku, I tried calling him but he blocked our home number and our cell number.”
Katsuki just froze, Auntie was gone? Just like that? How? He needed answers now. “How did she pass?” He asked surprising himself with how soft his voice was.
“Heart competition, I was on the phone with her when she suddenly collapsed. I rushed over as soon as I could….only to find her gone,” Mitsuki explained, “Me and Masaru are here trying to figure out what to do next, can you tell Izuku?”
“…..I can,” Kastuki said as he rubbed at his eyes, trying to stop crying to no avail, “I can tell Zuku.” He hung up the phone and finally broke down. Inko was dead, just like that. Izuku’s last family member was gone. But he couldn’t face Izuku, which means that he’d have no way of knowing that his mom was gone.
