Summary
Chuuya Nakahara had known she'd compete at the Winter Olympic Games since she was six and her cousin had won bronze at Nagano 1998.
She was too young to compete at Torino 2006, but 2010 was going to be her year. Then she met Dazai and her plans changed from competing in ladies singles skating to competing in ice dance.
By 2010 Games Dazai was dead.
Chuuya went to the Games in 2010 reluctantly, then 2014, 2018, and finally retired after 2022 Games. It was not a journey her six year old self could have imagined in her wildest dreams.Or, 4 Olympic Games Chuuya competed at + 1 Games she just went to watch. Or more accurately, the Games she competed as a singles skater + 3 Games she competed in ice dance with Dazai + 1 Games where Dazai dragged her along because he now works for the governing body of the sport
IMPORTANT: While this is technically part 3 of my ice dance au, you do NOT need to read Patter of Pain or part 2 to get what's going on, although it might make some things clearer

Ryu Rumi, a perfectionist ice dancer living in her mother's shadows, faces her biggest challenge yet since she took to the ice... resting. Even after Rumi has to walk away from the ice dancing season, she can't seem to stay away from the rink and learns to appreciate her hockey counterparts.
Where figure skating was precise grace, ice hockey was controlled chaos in different fonts and flavours: and none sum it up better than the two hockey players who win her attention.
The annoying chaebol princess, Choi Mira and scrappy little underdog, Park Zoey. Where Mira is a pain in her neck who made Rumi think so little of ice hockey really (or says the figure skater), just watching Zoey on the ice convinces Rumi it's not all that bad.
One way or another, their paths all intertwine - in more ways than any of them could have seen coming. For better or for worse?
Who knows...
But at the end of the day, the cold stings more when you're alone anyway...
Basically, the moment Rumi stops overworking herself practicing the sport she dedicated her life to, she falls in love with something - or someone - new.
