He sets his alarm for 5:05 sharp. He likes the way it looks, the 0 sandwiched in the middle– protected. He awakes to the sound of a piercing alarm. It reminds him of a fire drill, of a ring ring ring, blaring and persistent and unignorable. An alarm gives you a warning. Stevie hates to be unprepared.
At first, he almost sleeps in– he's groggy when he awakes, and he can't find the light switch, and his brain already pounds against the pulsating walls of his skull. But Stevie is diligent, and he persists. Stevie is resilient. He always persists.
