During his walk he comes across a mysterious figure, who happens to be none other than Abaddon's fifth greatest enemy; against his greater wishes, he finds himself being the witness to a series of unfortunate events. What is he ought to do? The power of friendship alone won't be able to breach over their emotional gap.

Summary
Abaddon almost never slept, going decades, centuries between sleep. This was partially because demons didn't need to sleep outside of extreme circumstances but more importantly because when Abaddon fell asleep the soul of his Vessel, Isaac, would take over and do everything he could to free himself from possession.
First chapter is the first three times Abaddon was forced to sleep, last three take chapters take place after Abaddon's return from living the entirety of Earth's history 100 times and needed a well deserved nap

Abaddon’s eyes glisten. “You don’t understand,” he pleads, his voice small and shaking. “Please—I’ll behave! I’m sorry! I’ll be—I’ll be good!”
Katherine’s hand trembles as she slips the crucifix over his head, pushing down the guilt she feels. “It’ll only be for a few hours,” she says quietly. “I really didn’t want it to be this way.”
The moment the beads touch his skin, Abaddon cries out to her — a sound that doesn’t belong to a child at all. Katherine forces herself to turn away, heart hammering as she steps out of the attic. She has to remind herself that that isn’t a child, but a spawn of hell in a child’s body.
The door slams shut behind her.

Disgruntled and tired after the two-day train trek up the country, they take refuge at a seemingly peaceful family-owned hotel just a short drive off the main streets while they find their footing to set up a new start. The owners, Nathan & Katherine Freeling, and the kids who help run the place seem nice enough. Though they're a very hospitable staff, Wendy and Danny can't help but wonder if there was more to this quiet establishment than meets the eye.

Summary
Katherine refuses to accept Abaddon as her new adoptive son. She still sees him as Nathan's child. Abaddon struggles with both the loss of Nathan and the isolation from Katherine. His vessel's soul and his start to merge, making him crave a mother even more. After a while, she accepts him slowly. He recovers even slower, and learns to accept who he is.
Moral of story: acceptance takes time, and that everyone deserves to be loved.
