“The shirt I left here last month? You shrank it.”
Merlin pokes their head out from the shower, dark hair plastered to their pale forehead, blue eyes wide. “I did not. I couldn’t’ve, I’ve only got the washer.”
“Then how do you explain this?” Arthur demands, gesturing to where his shirt hem ends just below his navel, leaving the rest of his belly to sag out. Merlin smirks.
“I don’t think that’s a laundry error, love.”

Morgana glanced back down at his lips, and Merlin stayed very, very still.

I should stop drinking, he thought to himself. Not tonight though. He was allowed to drink and pity himself as much as he wanted tonight. Tomorrow, he will be the strong King of Camelot again, the man his people respect and trust.

The war between Camelot and Balinor’s kingdom has been devastating their lands for Arthur’s whole life. It was his duty to fight for his people and lead them to victory, and there was only one way to do that—to take out Balinor’s most powerful player. His own son, Merlin.

Camelot is a lot bigger than the letter suggested it to be.
The buildings here tower at three stories tall, sometimes even four, and that’s only in the lower town. The battlements alone leave trailing shadows over the roads, the stone and brick laid down who-knows how long ago.Merlin clutches Gaius’ letter close, looking down every now and then to recheck the directions. The roads are winding and narrow with more than a few dead-ends.
His offer hangs just under the directions:"Mentor under me and I can teach you the control you seek – a physician’s apprentice is a noble trade not many young men have the opportunity to undertake. Do you understand?"
Merlin didn’t understand at first, not until Hunith pressed a set of Will’s old clothes into confused hands. As tough as it is for a sheltered boy to saunter into a new city to take a position under an esteemed healer – not even considering the illegalities of the implied additional tutelage – it would be an impossibility for even the most headstrong of women.

“So how did you get into acting then?” asked Merlin after some time. He eyed the expensive suit and raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. Arthur tried not to get too distracted. “If I didn’t know better, I would have pegged you as a finance guy or something.”
The only thoughts swirling inside Arthur’s head was how much he wanted to get pegged by Merlin but he valiantly answered the question. “My father owns a company but he, uh, he didn’t really accept the whole bi thing and kicked me out when I came out,” he said slightly uncomfortably. The expression on Merlin’s face immediately changed but before he could apologise, Arthur continued, this time a little less honestly. “I’ve had to find my own way ever since and that’s when I met Gwaine.”
Truth be told, had he not pretended that it was just a phase, Arthur would have actually lived through that. As much as it pained him to deny his identity and pretend to be a stranger just to win his father’s approval, he appreciated the privileges he received.
Or Arthur's here to get purely professional photos but after seeing just who his photographer is, his focus shifts slightly. Just slightly.
