That little girl—no older than eight—had to be his daughter, right? Mori wasn’t a very sarcastic man, but he over stepped a boundary and was quite rude. This was just a more civil way to call out Fukuzawa for being out of line! Mori wasn’t some pedophile… right?
“Ah, that type of response hurts me the most!” Mori cowered at Fukuzawa’s assumption. Shocking Fukuzawa and filling him with concern for this young girl; “What is this man to you?” Fukuzawa spends no time asking. The young girl swiftly responds almost too heartily, “A lolicon pervert!” Way too calm for a normal girl.
“Right, I’ll call the police now.” Fukuzawa reassured. It didn’t matter to him that Mori just made an alliance, the only thing that mattered to him was this poor girls safety. He had a young child at home too, and would NEVER think of him in any lude way.

“If I help you, what do I get?” He sets the trap in the same way one would move a chess piece slowly across the board. The king might not be in check just yet, but the impending demise is within his sights.
The king in question raises an eyebrow, searching for Ranpo’s ulterior motive. “What do you want?” Fukuzawa normally doesn’t take the bait so it seems he’s up for Ranpo’s little challenge tonight.
Ranpo grins like a cheshire and takes two steps until he’s around the table and standing over Fukuzawa’s shoulder. Fukuzawa’s eyes are his favorite shade of blue, he decides as he pushes Fukuzawa’s chair backward. “I want three things.” He does not elaborate. Why would he need to? The recognition is right there in Fukuzawa’s expression.

Summary
Ranpo untangles himself from the duvet, his body shaking with sobs. He’s cried himself to sleep plenty, but this is the first time he’s ever woken up in tears, and the realization is humiliating. He’d thought he’d left the nightmares behind when he moved in with Fukuzawa, but if tonight is anything to go by, they’ve come back even worse than before.
“Stupid,” Ranpo murmurs under his breath, pressing the heels of his hands to his eyes to try to staunch the flow of tears like he might a bleeding wound. “There’s no reason for this to still be happening.”
But for once, reason fails him. The nightmares aren’t born from somewhere rational; they come from a place deeper and more primal. In that place, Ranpo isn’t an undefeated detective. He isn’t inhumanly smart or incisively observant. In the place that breeds those nightmares, Ranpo can hardly think at all. He’s still that same orphaned child. He’s still frightened and still alone.

There were several seconds that passed of the boy just staring at the man before him. Yet still with that window of time, that same man still hadn’t acknowledged Ranpo’s examining gaze. It was on purpose.
Slowly, Ranpo's eyes eventually opened to reveal his stern expression and look, clearly not amused by the silence of the other. Jade pierced at porcelain skin.
“What do you want?”
