The cicadas took it as an invitation to practice dying together in chorus. “If Colm wasn’t alive,” Arthur said finally, voice gone distant, “what would you want?”
“Breakfast,” I said, and smiled because it hurt less than telling the truth.
“After breakfast,” he said.
“Clean hands that still know what to do,” I said, surprising myself. “A horse that likes me more than not. A little time where the only thing that needs killin’ is silence. No one callin’ me Miss anything.”
He nodded like he’d been handed a map that didn’t promise roads. “I could stand that,” he said.
“And you?” I asked. “If Dutch’s ‘one last score’ didn’t end with all of us in holes or heatstroke?”
“Quiet,” he said. “A river with fish that ain’t clever. A place where a man can come inside without lookin’ over one shoulder and then the other. No parades. No letters.” He didn’t look at me when he said that, and I didn’t make him. “You there, if you want,” he added, so bare it almost wasn’t words.
“I ain’t pretty company,” I said.
“I ain’t either,” he said. “We’ll make an ugly peace.”

—“oh my Lord…” Arthur’s knees buckle and time slows down.
There’s a chorus of reactions around him. Charles drops the axe, shaking hands coming up to cover his mouth. Javier drops his knife and steps forward, staring wide eyed like he can’t believe what he’s seeing. Sadie swears and turns away. Bill takes a step back, eyes bulging, face contorted in disgust. Lenny sputters, gasping in horror.
His breath catches in his throat, a shrill sorrowful cry cuts through the air, it comes from him. His hands clasp the sides of the box so tight it feels like his fingers would snap. His vision is blurred instantly, but the sight of John was burned into his brain. It’s all he can see.

"Goddamnit, already?" He mumbled as he pulled himself up from the weathered mattress. Slowly Arthur dressed himself, buttoning his trousers and slipping into his black shirt. It was evening but in the business of vampire hunting it was best to adjust yourself to their timetable so for the gang the setting sun was what the rising was to most.

This is the story of one of those gangs that roamed the west. The Van Der Linde gang, a group of people who have chosen to reject the rules of society and the power of the government, not wanting to be ruled by anyone and instead living by their own code and laws. After a failed heist in Blackwater, the group, led by Dutch van der Linde, will travel east across America to escape those who pursue them, encountering an old rival, and dangers around every corner. As internal conflict starts to brew, Arthur Morgan and his childhood friend, (Y/N) (L/N) are forced to choose between their ideals and their loyalty to the gang.
(Story follows the game with some changes here and there, but mostly it sticks to the canon story!)
