Six months after Hob Gadling said good-bye to his oldest friend, Morpheus, Death comes to him for help with an impossible task. For his part, Dream is just trying to figure out who he is, what he's supposed to do, and why the dark is trying to get him. The only thing that makes any sense is Hob and his kindness, and the certainty that that all Dream wants is to stay by Hob's side.
