Summary
To be perfectly honest, Charles had not even expected to get past the stage of booking a plane ticket, so boarding, flying and finally landing? Surreal. He was "Mr Mutant Assimilationist" visiting "Isolationist Mutant Island" as a tourist.
And yet, there he was, a mutant father on holiday with his two overexcited children, whom he had to keep away from trouble and danger. With his telepathy and Peter being so quick he did not think there would be any particular problem. Then David chose to cling to fucking terrorist President Magneto who apparently was on the same plane as them.
These children would be the death of him, it was becoming clearer every day.

Erik pulls her into a tight embrace, resting his chin on the top of her head. “You should have. You’re an amazing mother. David adores you.”
She shudders in his arms, breath hitching as she fights back tears. “I couldn’t even keep him safe.”
Erik’s mouth goes dry, and he swallows before speaking. “Nei-neither could our parents…But they tried…they did everything they could and so have you…my Mutti- she would tell you the same.”
Gabrielle sobs, clinging to him so tightly he’s fairly sure he’ll bruise. He rubs her back gently with his non-injured hand, waiting for her to calm before he gathers his coat to go home.
“Magnus?” She asks softly, voice muffled by his chest. “Will you stay?”
“Of course.” He whispers. -

Peter Maximoff loved his family.
The sky is blue, the grass is green, and Peter loved his family.
His family had grown from a rag-tag group of four mutants to a whole mansion full. Peter cooked with Raven, he trained with Alex and Hank, he learned chess with Charles, and he hung around his dad just because he could.
Peter helped Kurt with his English homework, he baked with his children, he let Jubilee watch him paint, he taught Warren how to carve simple shapes out of wood, he flirted with Jean and Scott to make up for the times they flirted with him, and he watched how much Wanda and Lorna had improved in the past years.Peter also helped David find a job willing to hire both a mutant and somebody like him, he helped Esme plan the finishing touches for when Frost International was passed down to her, and he helped Johnny with cases out of human expertise.
Peter Maximoff had two families that he loved equally and dearly.
This wouldn't be a problem. Had his families met each other.

Summary
David accidentally ends up in Kurt’s mind while he’s sleeping. There, Kurt is having a nightmare about a whipping sound, pain, and a needle.
David is not sure what he witnessed, but he speculates that it was a nightmare about Kurt’s past. That theory is confirmed when a circus rolls into town with a name David recognized in Kurt’s nightmare and a man who’s all too pleased to scare Kurt.
In which, David finds out about the horrors Kurt went through in the circus. The drugging, abuse, and being treated like property. And when that nightmare comes alive in reality, David despises that Kurt is forced to relive any amount of trauma for one man’s sick amusement.

1983, David is the most powerful mutant the world has seen so far, although Charles has managed to keep him hidden at the school where he's safe, away from whoever wants to deem him dangerous or a perfect weapon. However, he's also a 16 year old, and frustration kicks in as he starts wondering about his mother and everything he could do if he wasn't stuck in that school.
At the same time, an ancient mutant is awakened.
