Summary
Stiles - academic high achiever, overall fool, and eccentric - was nearly free. Only a week until his 18th birthday and only six left until he was free from high school forever. He'd a whole summer planned of doing nothing except getting a job somewhere in time and spending his gap year, that his dad has been strangely adamant about, saving up his money and loafing. It was going to be perfect.
Well, it would have been had he not been rolled off the road by some unknown force that seems to have Stiles in it's crosshairs. Everyone is keeping secrets, no one wants to talk about anything except his up coming birthday and Stiles is going to figure out what the heck is going on even if the Hales try to drag him down to Hell.

Sure, the figure had moved with an unnatural quickness, vanishing as suddenly as he appeared but that didn't mean anything. Just standard Beacon Hills bullshit—home to the strange and unexplained. No, that wasn't what bothered him. What bothered him was that he hadn’t just seen someone. He’d seen someone he was damn sure he knew. Dark hair against pale skin, and leather jacket over broad shoulders, body squared, braced for impact. It was a posture Stiles had seen countless times, most often standing between him and something that was trying to rip his throat out. For a fleeting second, amidst the screech of tires and the adrenaline flooding his system, Stiles could have sworn he’d seen Derek Hale standing in the middle of the road. Only that wasn't possible because Derek was dead, very, very dead.

The aim of synthetic souls was to mimic the soul of a human being, allowing a synthetic android to experience feelings & emotions and to form emotional attachments or empathetic bonds.
DRNs have been out of use for decades because they were too lifelike for their human counterparts.
Derek Hale, heir to Hale Robotics, finds Stiles in his junkyard, where he's been a mechanic for the last 24 years. The last thing he expected was the android to be functional, much less it being a Hale DRN, which is the last project his mother had been working on before the fire. And Stiles was unlike any other DRN that Derek had ever seen before… he was so human and lifelike that Derek hated him for it.

Derek realises that he’s probably squashing Stiles a little bit, right at the same moment that Stiles apparently realises that he’s still holding onto Derek’s face.
They both definitely acknowledge Derek’s nakedness at the same exact time, judging by the alarmed look on Stiles’ face.
“So, you have no clothes on,” Stiles removes his hands and holds them above his head in surrender, cheeks a muddy red.
“In my defence, I was covered in fur less than two minutes ago,” Derek rolls his eyes and he pushes himself up and off him, hands covering his junk for Stiles’ sake.
“You’re still kind of furry now…” Stiles sits up, blinking rapidly, clearly just as weirded out as Derek. “Oh my god, pretend I didn’t say that. I’m not looking or anything.”
Derek smirks, because that… that was a lie and he cocks an eyebrow at him.
