Summary
"Why'd you do it?" The first time Vincent asks, Eugene can't hear. He has to hum a soft, hm?, catching only a vowel or two, and Vincent's voice rises slightly, just enough for Eugene to strain his ears and make out the words: "Why'd you do it?"

Summary
“Unless the idea is that you want a show,” he says bravely, brazenly, quirking his lips up, “You’re sort of in the way.”
He watches the tips of Jerome’s ears turn red, but he doesn’t miss a beat, like he’s rising to the challenge. And really, Eugene thinks, isn’t that how it always goes? He sets the bar for him, and Jerome proceeds to smash cleanly through it.
“Am I?”

Summary
Eugene isn’t a people person. Never was, and never will be.
Maybe it’s strange for someone like him — someone who spends half his days shooing away some millions of overzealous fans, all shouting his name as he steps on stage and assumes his position behind the microphone: his pride, his freedom.
But just when Eugene thought his life couldn’t be put on yet another trajectory, there he was. It was exhilarating, unfair, and so, so, right — all at once.
(or: Eugene is a rising pop star and Vincent is his new bodyguard. But first, they need to sort some things out.)

Summary
Jerome Eugene Morrow has always been afraid of heights. It is ironic that he is now providing his worn ladder to somebody who wants to fly higher into the sky than any human was designed by God to fly. Well, God never intended his creations to play God, either. Defiance is a trademark of humanity.
Jerome has long since abandoned God. If one still exists, then he’s been laughing at this landlocked, drunken soul for decades.
