OR
Varian's plan succeeds—he uses the magic of Rapunzel's hair to free his father from the amber. However, he doesn’t anticipate that his father won’t wake up once it’s done. Desperate for answers, Varian digs deeper but only uncovers more questions about his father's past, along with an old map that might hold the key to saving him. The catch? He must leave Corona, and Rapunzel has to go with him.
(Basically a rewrite of season 2).

He’d rather spend the rest of his life rotting away in a cell, than have to even pretend he felt a single drop of remorse or shame for what he had done.

The captain's grip hardened on his shoulder, as if ensuring Varian wouldn’t try anything in the seconds between one word and the next.
Nigel’s stare ran over his. The man looking for some sort of reaction that the boy refused to give him, hardening his own expression like he wasn’t at all on edge for whatever the next words read out from the paper would entail.
The advisor glanced back at the paper, the pressure on Varians shoulder turning almost painful.
“For these crimes committed against the Kingdom of Corona, its citizens and the royal family, the following sentence will be carried out and enforced starting at dawn.”

The King raised his chin, “In Coronan law there’s only one verdict ruled out for attacks of this stature.”
*
You’re not afraid.
Varians clung onto the thought, stomach flaring in knots, breath catching in his throat. He uses every muster of energy to keep his poker face in place.
“The guilty party will be executed by way of hanging, hung from the neck until pronounced dead-“

Summary
After his arrest, Varian has come to deeply regret his actions. To make amends, he has agreed to help with the things threatening Corona, such as the black rock rocks which still invade the land even after Rapunzel awakened her power.
When the black rocks arrive at Arendelle, Queen Elsa asks for Corona’s help. Varian doesn’t expect to see much on the trip, other than walls of the palace and perhaps a glimpse of the sea if he is lucky. But when he hears that Rapunzel has also arrived in Arendelle, things get more…complicated.After reconciling with her sister and learning to control her powers, Queen Elsa lives happily in the castle with her friends and family. However, when mysterious black rocks appear and threaten to destroy their fields, she has to ask help from their allies. Corona seems to have a solution: an alchemist who has gotten successfully rid of the rocks before. But something still isn't’ quite right…

Summary

So when the moon calls to him, warm and soft like the vaguest sun, he listens.
He never expects for the moon to guide him straight back into the sun's path, just as he never expects to be so inter-woven with the moon's fate. And the very last thing he expects is to trust again, the sun's promise.
But alas, this is a story of trust. A story of redemption and forgiveness. A story of finding yourself through icy remnants and missing shards. And if not anything else, this is Varian's story.

For years, Gothel’s authority over the Sundrop goes unchallenged, until one day, right before Rapunzel's coronation, a notorious thief, Flynn Rider, proves he can also command its magic. Though Gothel bristles at the competition, Arianna welcomes it: more healers means a stronger Corona. Besides, over the years Arianna has found Gothel to be far from the kind and generous healer of fairy tales.
Tension rises in Corona. Everybody has a goal of their own, but they also have one in common: conserving and protecting the Sundrop... and for that they made need to work together.
