Summary
What if Immakuk and Ennikar hadn't intervened in Sukir to guide Kamet back to Costis? What if they, like me, wanted a slow burn with a
egregioustasteful amount of pining? What if they had been listening to "I Love You, I'm Sorry" by Gracie Abrams and thinking about how well it describes this moment for my two favorite idiots in love? Well, in that case, what might have happened is something a bit like this. Kamet does manage to slip away from Costis in Sukir, striking out on his own while Costis returns to Attolia. But it seems that powerful forces, both mortal and immortal, are set on bringing them back together again... not the least of which are their own hearts. :)In canon divergence terms, this departs from canon towards the end of Thick as Thieves but has everybody back where they should be for the start of Return of the Thief. Still, it does have some SPOILERS for Return of the Thief!! You have been warned!! The timings of some events have been ~gently nudged~. Oh, and it's best not to look too closely at the map in order to best enjoy this fic. But I had fun writing it. Many thanks to Megan Whalen Turner for existing and creating these characters, and to my beta reader. <3 <3

Summary
I crept forward slowly, listening with increasing horror and disgust as Nahuseresh and Bu-Seneth tried to coerce the king to treason with words and then with violence. When I was finally able to maneuver into a position where I could see what was going on without revealing myself, I saw that they had stripped him entirely of his clothes and had managed to remove his hook as well.

Summary
Marin would not mind being transformed into a swan if such a thing were possible, the freedom to fly away and never return. She could leave the palace, clear the copper-topped walls of Ianna-Ir and live out her life among the reeds and watergrasses of the river in bright sunshine and shining, moving water.
Instead she is here, living her life in her own fragile skin.

Summary
The magus of Sounis, like most scholars, was pompous. That made him a fool. Even in the king of Attolia’s dungeons, he’d wrapped himself in a cloak of bravado and boasted of his brilliant plan to force Eddis to bow to Sounis by stealing Hamiathes’s Gift and giving it to the young mountain king’s cousin – who was rumored to be a much closer relation, in truth – and marrying her to his own king. Of course, he claimed that losing the Gift they had allegedly retrieved made his quest a complete waste – as if the sneaky bastard wasn’t planning to produce a forgery if Eugenides ever let him go. Obviously, he had no idea just whom he and the young princess of Sounis had brought to Attolia with them.
