Lafayette is also a divorced dad with a son but a good relationship with his ex-wife. He wants to help John and they start to get closer.
But due to John’s personal issues, it’s not easy. That and the pressure from around them might jeopardize their relationship before it even begins.

John Laurens is eighteen years old and trans (yay) and his father, Henry Laurens, is the Republican governor of South Carolina and is VERY transphobic (not yay). Due to this, John runs away from his home in Charleston, to go to Columbia University in Brooklyn, New York. There, he immediately befriends his dormmates, one of whom he certainly wants to be more than friends with... but that's not the important part. The important part is that here, at Columbia University, he can just unapologetically exist as JOHN. Just a normal college freshman boy with a love for history and also for Starbucks triple-cream lattes with cocoa chips. But the question is, how long can he remain as Just John before his childhood in South Carolina finally catches up to him?

After finding out that he has magical capabilities, Alex gets adopted by the Washingtons and gets a scholarship to Evelyn University where his foster parents are teachers (his foster father is also the dean). He has his life planned out, make new friends, try his best to activate and strengthen his magic, find his soulmate (whom he had already fallen for and is the reason he is still determined to live), and use his magic for good. He meets his new roommate who seems to be the coldest, grumpiest, moodiest, (and cutest) person alive. Somehow, he is drawn to his new roommate… There is just something about him that he can’t put his finger on.

In a world where magic exists, whatever you write on your left wrist will be visible to your soulmate and your soulmate’s name will appear on your wrist when you two fall for each other (cliché, ik), Alex and John were there for each other when they really needed it the most.
