It was hard to even imagine, even though she had held her in her arms as she took her last breath, her hand caressing the young girl’s cheek, while the younger’s hand held on to hers. She had seen the light fade away, had seen her arm go limp, had seen the blood start to dry up, but she still refused to accept it.

Hoshika brushed her tears away, forcing a gentle smile. “Kids…”
They turned eagerly. “Yes, Mother?”
Akihiro beckoned them, stoic and calm. “Come here. It’s time for a family meeting.”
The siblings hurried over, unaware.
