Summary
Time drags on, Shikamaru finds, except for when it doesn’t. The first few weeks, first few months, following the run from Konoha become little more than a distant memory. He knows many of the names of those that fell, and everyone in the rebellion has people they remember who live no more.
But time goes on anyway. One year passes, and then another, and so on it goes. And all the while, the rebellion refuses to kneel before Konoha.
Of course, Shikamaru privately finds that ‘rebellion’ is perhaps too strong of a word for what they actually are. The rebellion grew from the anger of a few ninjas, unwilling to fully abandon what they’d left behind, and others who believed so strongly that things were wrong and needed something to do with their anger.
“Yet despite all your grumblings, you’re here with us,” Ino points out, and Shikamaru rolls his eyes.
“Yeah, well, we’re fighting for something to gain, aren’t we?”
