Yuri remembers all at once how miserable his childhood was — how desperately he’d wanted parents who loved him. He remembers wishing his mother had just left him when he was a baby, instead of popping in and out whenever it suited her. He remembers how long he spent terrified that Beka would abandon him just like his mother had.
Yuri opened up about his mother early on in their friendship, throwing out the fact that he never even knew who his dad was like it didn’t even matter at all.
It did matter, obviously; it still matters. Vitya once tried to comfort him (like Yuri even needed that) by telling him that he never had a dad, either, but Yuri just shot back that Vitya had two moms — he never needed a dad; not when he had two parents who loved and wanted him and never would have abandoned him.
