Summary
When Crystal Palace wakes from her coma, the world is quiet.
But not a good sort of quiet.
An empty, hungry sort of quiet. The sort of quiet that you only get when you hold your own breath for too long and all you can hear is your own blood in your ears.
The sort of quiet that just patently does not exist in a hospital unless something has gone very, very fucking wrong.
As Crystal rips the breathing tubes off of her face, she finds herself waking up with a gunshot wound healed in her stomach, yes, but also she finds herself gasping in the air of a dead world.
And when she grabs the closest thing she has to a weapon- a heavy bedpan, because she’s a detective, not a fucking idiot- she wanders out into the hallways to find lights flickering over dead bodies littered everywhere, gunshots through the heads, with a warning a warning painted on the walls in what might be read spray paint but the evidence points to a very different answer entirely: THE DEAD WALK THROUGH HERE.
