The Hobbits held fast to their promises and did not attack Men, knowing they could not fight the Elves, who would destroy them if they learned they had broken their pact. And they had to watch Men slaughter their people like animals, until Azog appeared with an army of Orcs. And the Alliance of Hobbits and Orcs began, completely changing the Quest for Erebor and the return of Sauron.
