Her lips quivered, the ache in her chest mixing with the dull throb of her ribs. She didn’t speak again — just leaned back and held out her arms for Ekko to come back into them.
Tears started welling up in his eyes again, but he pinched the bridge of his nose like he was still trying to hold himself back. Jinx knew how much not being able to help her was killing him.
He lied back down over her stomach, avoiding her ribs and any other bruises. She put her arms around him, wrapping them around his shoulders, one hand wiping his tears.
“It’s okay, Ekko. I’ll be okay. Just let it out.”
