"-You think loving him is enough to hold him? You think you can keep him just because you feel something?"

Ace’s throat bobbed as he swallowed. But he didn’t look away. He didn’t back down.

"I don’t think it’ll be easy," Ace said, rough and sure. "I know it won’t."

Shanks’ eyes narrowed slightly, considering him.

"Then answer me this," he said, voice dropping low, dangerous, "how the hell am I supposed to trust my songbird’s body —his heart —to a brat who doesn’t even know how to fuck a woman, let alone a man? "

    Ace’s entire body went rigid.

He flushed deeper, the color high and angry in his face now, his fists clenching on his knees until his knuckles went white.

"I—!" he sputtered, completely undone for the first time tonight. "I—I’m not some idiot! Just because—just because I haven’t— that doesn’t mean I—!"

Shanks laughed again, throwing his head back slightly, the sound rich with genuine amusement.

"God," he said between chuckles, "you’re easy to rile up."

A dead man from Earth wakes up in One Piece, sets out to be the world's greatest performer, and accidentally captures two hearts along the way.

    Summary

Bella counted her breaths as she took one last look at the vibrant city square and plunged herself into the darkness of a narrow Italian alleyway. She followed the instructions Alice had given her to a grate placed in the stone. She crouched down, slipping her fingertips beneath the edges, and took another breath, promising herself it wouldn't be her last. She was afraid - of course she was - but she trusted Alice. If she thought this was Bella's best chance of survival, Bella was going to do exactly as she said. Her best friend had yet to let her down.

OR: All roads lead to Rome. Or, you know, Volterra. Basically, Alice, Jasper, and Bella are actually really good friends, some reactions after Bella's eighteenth birthday party are a little different, and the inevitable break-up is more on Bella's terms. These are the consequences of that.

    Inspired by @anotheroceanid

This is my version/take of the Athenide AU started by @anotheroceanid on Tumblr.
I wish I could gift it but she’s anonymous on AO3.
I’ve seen other inspired works here and the hyper-fixation has me by the throat.

    Summary

Perseus Jackson is a son of Poseidon—product of a broken oath, packing more sass than sense, with the ocean’s temper yet none of its mercy, and a prophecy already gunning for him.

But he is also the son of Sally Jackson—the mortal who caught a god’s eye and out-stubborned the storm. Barely out of childhood herself, she wound up with a child who wept pearls and limpet teeth—and still managed to keep him hidden.

A disastrous field trip to the New York Aquarium unravelled all her efforts.

Now six-year-old Percy’s colliding headfirst with Greek mythology, Sally’s stuck refereeing between gods, monsters, and aggressively helpful nature spirits, and the family secret is on life support.

Sure, more protectors might sound nice—until you realize none of them are equipped to wrangle a demigod overflowing divinity, and the only things keeping him hidden anymore are sheer luck, opportunism, and just enough self-delusion to qualify as a superpower.

    OR:
Join feral-child Percy on his quest to spread (minor) chaos, dodge smiting attempts, and collect all his half-siblings like they’re emotionally damaged Pokémon—while fate stumbles after him and heroic deeds get done more or less as an afterthought.
