Chapter Text

Once upon a time the creatures of the sea and the beings of land got along together. Fishermen kept pretty mermaids company at the docks and Sirens protected ships traveling long distances with stocks of food, grains and even precious metals. That time was short lived because one man decided that mermaid tails looked prettier when their host was dead. That started a war, a feud that had been going on for centuries humans and the children of the sea harboring a hatred that ran deeper than the ocean floor.

Jeon Jungkook. Son of Captain Jeon, or Jeon Junghyun. Sailed the sea’s and had countless battles with mermaids, mermen and even sirens. He loved the water, loved the sound of waves how the sun reflected off the cerulean blue rippling ocean surface. Salty air and music playing from a record player while he worked with others to sail the seas fishing and just to enjoy the water. It was what the ocean held beneath the surface that he despised. No it wasn’t crabs or fish, octopus among others. Those didn’t bother him and they often made delicious meals for dinner lunch and breakfast. It was the mermaids, children of the sea, of Poseidon that had him on guard every time they broke into deeper waters.

For as long as he could remember humans and those of Poseidon didn’t get along. Hearing stories since birth of the hatred between the tailed beings in the water and the sailors. He had even had his fair share of fights with them, but not all battles were won. Sure they had modern day equipment like spears and guns, but if you fell overboard it was really over for you. They could surround your ship and crush it. He had heard of how the tailed beings sang songs of love and desire, luring men off the ship bewitching them with beautiful sounds and sultry looks which would bring them their next meal.

So here Jungkook sat looking over the water before a hand was placed on his shoulder as he went over all the reasons why he hated mermaids, never trusted them they were not to be trusted. Surprised he turned around to see his father there a grim smile on his face. The conversation was slow, a good morning as he leaned against the railing. Talking about how the water was a reflection on life, treat it well and the water would do the same. Then the older man turned to his son “That’s why I did it for you, son.” and Jungkook was now confused, raising an eyebrow. “There will come a day that I’ll be gone unable to protect you from the horrors of life. That’s why Poseidon and I have agreed to a truce. Giving the other the thing we hold most dearly to our hearts,” he started looking out at the water, “You are to be married to his son, Taehyung who I’ve heard is a Siren. As a truce, to unite us once again so the ocean can be safe for us humans again.” and Jungkook’s mouth hung open in shock before shaking his head.

“You’re kidding, please tell me you’re kidding!” and his dad just shook his head, this was very much real and it was happening. “But, but you taught me how to kill them, destroy them think of all the ships they’ve destroyed the deaths they’ve caused!” and his father nodded sighing as the ship rocked back and forth explaining that this was why they must be married. To end the death and the hatred between them.

Then he went and steered the ship to the southern waters while Jungkook tried to convince him otherwise. Saying that he could protect the ship and others but he just shook his head. For how intelligent his son was, he was still so naive. If he didn’t stop this feud then more innocent lives would be taken from both sides. He wanted his son to live in harmony with the ocean, not at battle with the waves. Jungkook tried to steer the ship away from the southern waters, they’d be fish food for sure that’s the heart of where those creatures lived but his father just pushed him out of the way. “You will marry Kim Taehyung child of the sea, that’s the end of the discussion Jeon Jungkook!” and he growled and stormed out shouting at the men to come on deck ringing the bell of warning.

He didn’t want to marry a creature, one of the creatures he had been fighting with for his entire life! This was ridiculous! Once the crew was on deck he stalked back and forth a “Have you told them?” boomed rage on his face as he explained that he was to marry Poseidon’s son to end the feud between humans and those, creatures! He expected a riot, yelling for his men to fight but they didn’t and the silence they held was more than what Jungkook needed to confirm his father’s statement. He was going to marry Kim Taehyung and they all knew it. “Even you?” he croaked as he turned to Namjoon, his best friend who stayed silent a guilty look on his face. Whipping around to face his father he took deep breaths pinching the bridge of his nose with his pointer finger and his thumb, “You, this is my life! You’ve decided to tell everyone what will be my future and told me last!” he cried out before squeezing his eyes shut. He refused to cry in front of them, to look weak. “I have to marry one, one of those things !” and his voice cracked as he tried to breathe. Making a rash decision fueled by his emotions he ran to the edge about to throw himself off, they weren’t that far from shore he could make it….only to be pulled back by his men. “Let me go!” he shrieked but they couldn’t, instead bringing him to his quarters to calm down because his father made the rules, even with his life.

“Calm down, then we’ll get you ready to meet him.” his father said grimly an apologetic look on his face as he closed the door to give Jungkook some time to process what was going to happen, what was going to become of his life. He was going to marry a siren...Poseidon’s son..with that thought he let the tears fall curling up on his bed letting the waves soothe his frazzled mind trying to absorb this new information about what was to come.

Under the ocean surface Taehyung swam around oblivious to the human world. Sure he had been curious, but that curiosity soon turned to hatred. He was a mermaid, mermen, siren whatever the humans called his kind they just clumped all of his kind into one name. Mermaid, beings of the sea. Luring people to their demise his siren song ringing in their ears. For the longest time, every since he could remember there had been a war going on between humans and the sea creatures like him. Plenty of casualties on both sides and Taehyung now hated them with a passion.

They took his mother after all.

He had been young, the ripe age of about ten when his mother went to go collect shells in the shallows to grind for more paints. That’s where a fisherman found her, captured her and killer her deciding her tail looked better detached from her body. Selling her scales, and anything else he could with her remains. His mother was turned into souvenirs and every single time he thought of that, thought of humans his blood absolutely boiled and he howled with rage.

Being Poseidon’s son also meant responsibility, which Taehyung often slacked off on instead swimming around to play with the children and to help the elderly. His father didn’t mind too much though, wanted him to enjoy his youth and not have responsibilities hanging over his head, suffocating him like he had been more than happy to see his son flit around playing hide and seek with the children or helping that elderly mermaid with her garden.

Taehyung also often swam around reefs, enjoying the vibrant pretty colors and the fish and sea life they often offered collecting small trinkets and pretty shells, things lost at sea. Taehyung was a siren, a rare breed of mythical creature and his body was different than that of a mermaid’s, a mermaids was more delicate, they we’re the ones who usually stayed close to Atlantis for humans were out more, hunting mermaids for their scales, their hair fine as silk and even their nails and teeth. Siren’s held a more dangerous, deadly beauty. Sure they could eat crabs and other shell fish, but to survive they needed blood. Human blood to keep them functioning and healthy which earned them the name of vampires of the sea, and the main cause of ships sinking and men going missing. They didn’t need to eat as often as mermaids/men though, but often they did eat regular meals with them just for the pure enjoyment of flavor on their tongue.

Taehyung being a siren fed three times a week usually and had absolutely no problem luring young naive men into the water whispers in the waves of desire where he drank them dry and discarded their bodies on a random shore to be found later. He saw no problem in drinking human blood, sure to humans it was different, evil called his kind a monster but he needed it to survive and they were oh so pretty watching the life getting sucked out of them.

Currently he was swimming around his favorite reef before pulling himself up onto a smooth slab of rock just below the ocean surface sun shining down on him. Basking in the warmth tail curling to make small waves his iridescent blue green and reddish purple scales glimmering catching the sun beautifully. “Taehyung, son I need to talk to you..” His father called swimming up to him, “me and the sailors, Captain Jeon and me have called a truce. Offering what’s most dear to us, closest to our hearts to the other side.” and he frowned in confusion, what was his dad talking about?

“Whatever do you mean father?” asked as he turned to lay on his belly finishing his crow of shells and pretty rocks placing it atop his midnight blue locks making him look like the prince of the sea, which he was. When he heard that he was to marry Jeon Jungkook, son of Captain Jeon he started giggling and laughing frame shaking slightly but when his father didn’t join in he stopped blinking dumbly. “Oh you weren’t kidding.” frowning his face twisted into disgust “Father you know I hate them! You know what they did to us, to our kind to me!” and Poseidon nodded grimly explaining that that’s why this had to end. No more bloodshed, to live in harmony which Taehyung thought was a bunch of fish food because there’s no way that humans and his kind could ‘live in harmony’ they were too different, their diets too different.

He didn’t get a say in this affair anyways though, his father had arranged it and he had to listen to him. Didn’t mean he had to be friendly to them though, just meant no biting, even if they deserved it. He hated this, hated the thought of even marrying one of their kind. That meant he’d need to shift, form two legs and he hated doing that. He’s only done it once, when he went to find his mother only to find her scales on a stand and people paying big money for just one. After he never shifted again which he was completely fine with as it was excruciatingly painful for him since his tail was literally being ripped in half to form two legs. He was a siren, child of the sea, not land. It didn’t help that he needed to go back in the water after he shifted because if he stayed out for too long his skin dried up and he could die, only able to stay a couple of hours out of the water since he hadn’t built up a resistance to the harsh human air that dried out his soft siren skin.

Growling he let his father drag him back to the castle swimming to his room where he had maids clean his scales with a soft bristled brush then polishing it to a beautiful shine. Looking at his midnight blue hair he frowned, a few strands between his fingers he decided he should dye it later. Turning he huffed and accepted a brush for his side fins making sure they looked pretty before letting his best friend Hoseok brush out his tail fins, letting him get rid of the sand grains so it looked just as beautiful as everything else shining under the light of the sun. After he applied makeup, some eyeshadow from ground up shells, lining his eyes a little more than they already were naturally and then brushed his hair out. Floating over to his row of crowns he decided to pick a simple one for the time being. Taehyung loved making crowns, often collecting pretty shells among other things to create them wearing them whenever he pleased. It made him feel pretty, he liked to look pretty even if he was deadly, so sue him.Deciding not to go to extravagant he chose a more simple yet equally as beautiful crown a line of white shells weaved into the thick sturdy sea vines beautiful gems dangling delicately against his forehead framing his face slightly popping out against his dark hair.

Returning to the main hall where his father he smiled sadly, “here, take these for Captain Jeon and Jungkook, and one friend. For the first meeting they have graciously agreed to meet us here in the water, we’re hosting them for dinner.” and he nodded glumly as he took the plant that allowed humans to breathe underwater swimming up to the surface where he saw a huge boat. Sighing he hesitated, positive some of the crew members had already seen him pointing and waving their arms for more to peer down at him. He’d have to switch to korean which he wasn’t very good at as he often spoke the language of the sea instead.

Taking a minute to calm himself repeating “they won’t hurt me, they will not hurt me Taehyung you fed yesterday you’re not hungry either no attacking even if their blood smells sweet or if they’re being a dolphin tail.” before surfacing making the men gasp. Even with only half his torso out of the water he looked stunning, a crown of shells atop his midnight blue hair sharp pastel colored eyes staring up at them. “Hello, I’m Kim Taehyung. I’m told that Captain Jeon and his son, and one friend is to join us for dinner tonight.” and his korean had a heavy accent of water song words slightly melodic, eerie even but his voice was beautiful deep and smooth, you could see, hear why men were jumping ship to find taehyung.

Nodding one of the men ran off to find Jungkook who was sulkily sitting in his cabin having been forced to stop pacing. Dressed in a pair of skin tight leggings? Not leggings, more like a second skin like what the divers wore all black hair combed out water proof makeup on a clear gloss on his nails lips moisturized. When the door opened notifying him of their visitor his father smiled and nodded dragging his son out onto the deck. “Hello Prince Kim, we’re happy to make your acquaintance this evening.” and Taehyung nodded notifying them that one other person could come with. Jungkook immediately chose Namjoon who was already ready and he nodded. Taehyung disappeared under water which confused some of the men because were they supposed to just jump in? Then the siren was jumping out of the water huge tail catching the sun scales reflecting onto the ship leaving the men in awe his fins by the base a beautiful fiery reddish blue, the tail fins at the end even bigger the edges slightly frayed and flowy before he grabbed onto the railing men stumbling back when they saw how sharp his teeth were.

“Here, you must eat these, they will enable you to breathe underwater. They will stop working once you’ve breathed air up at the surface again.” and he handed them a plant. Skeptically Jungkook stared at it, bright pink petals staring back before his father elbowed him to eat it too. Sighing he watched his dad eat it before jumping into the water. Namjoon shrugging and doing the same he was left on board uncertain about his fate. What if Taehyung was just luring them down to eat them? Finally he shoved it in his mouth chewing and swallowing before he too dived down beneath the surface. Taehyung just let go back flipping back into the water and it was here that Jungkook saw his eyes glowed pastels mixing together. His father was alive, so was Namjoon and he could breathe underwater. The air was cold? Probably because it was the ocean if he really thought about it and he’d refuse to admit it, but it was really pretty down here.

Chapter Text

Taehyung swam over to them huge flippers for them to wear making sure they followed him a he swam deeper into the ocean. Having to stop quite a couple of times as humans were much slower than him even with fins. Finally they arrived in atlantis and mermaids stared some hissing hostility tainting the air. Showing them the castle he opened the doors a “welcome to Atlantis.” said and underwater his voice sounded even better. Poseidon swam down to greet them exchanging words with Junghyun before they went to sit down at the table.

“So, Taehyung this is Jungkook the human you are to wed.” and he made a face of disgust but nodded. Jungkook glared at him saying that he wouldn’t marry a creature like Taehyung where he proceeded to snarl that he should have eaten him when his pathetic body hit the water. Junghyun sighed and both fathers reprimanded their sons saying it had to be a civil dinner. When crab and lobster was brought out Taehyung ate in silence sometimes side eyeing Jungkook, licking his lips because he’d rather eat him he could smell how sweet the human was and finally he had to shake his head realising a low growl had rumbled in his chest catching the attention of all three men. Tuning conversation out Jungkook didn’t pay attention until he heard “Taehyung will meet you on ship in two days time.” head whipping to Poseidon his own father nodding in agreement. Even saying that if he wanted to do so he could stay the night. About to object he was silenced with a look that said to stay quiet. Frowning he glared daggers at Taehyung who was munching sulkily on crab leg.

Dinner went just like that, little to no talk between Taehyung and Jungkook the siren just eyeing the boy hungrily Namjoon sitting there awkwardly while their fathers conversed about the details pertaining to their marriage. What would happen, when the wedding was where it’d be. They couldn’t decide if it would be land or water so that detail was put on hold. Finally dinner was over and Taehyung could say bye to the human who was going to tear his originally peaceful life apart. Then his father was telling him to go off and get to know Jungkook more Namjoon tagging along, maybe take him to the reef or his room or something and he wrinkled his nose at the thought of Jungkook seeing something as intimate like his room instead opting to begrudgingly bring him to a reef close to Atlantis.

“Make sure you keep up, it’s not my fault if you get lost in the ocean or eaten by a shark darling.” drawled as he swam out of the castle Jungkook scoffing and following him making comments about how it’s not like he wanted to be here anyways while Namjoon gaped at the beauty of the ocean. Rolling his eyes Taehyung swam under coral fixtures and to the coral reef. He liked to call it Sunset, because it looked absolutely stunning when the sun set. The corals and the fish and aquatic plant life always seemed more vibrant and stunning during that time. Leaving Jungkook he swam down to the sand picking up shells to inspect them, holding the ones he liked in his hands and Jungkook just swam around frowning.

“Just because our parents are forcing us to marry doesn’t mean I’m going to like you, stay out of my way.” said gruffly and Taehyung muttered something like ‘whatever not like I wanted to be married to an ass like you’ before pulling himself onto a slab of rock underwater to relax on stretching his tail out absorbing the heat that had been soaked up during the day with a sigh, oh how he’d love to just take a bite out of that insolent little human boy. Jungkook just watched the mermaid-no the siren. Mermaids didn’t have sharpened teeth with the sole purpose for tearing and ripping at flesh.

He would have to admit though, Taehyung’s beauty was stunning, hypnotising in a way and he guess it had to be. He was a siren, looks and his water song was what lured men to the deep. Shaking his head he just played with sand and the reef before Poseidon and his father were swimming up to them. “I hope you boys got to know each other somewhat?” asked as Poseidon stared at Taehyung who he knew wouldn’t willingly talk to a human and would much rather eat one. Nodding as if they had actually talked instead of just sharp remarks and silence Jungkook swam to his dad a look pleading if they could go.

Finally they got to leave and Jungkook dragged Namjoon away from the pretty fish. Leading them back to the ship where his crew waited anxiously Namjoon couldn’t help but see the shadow of a male swimming past them different colored shells in his arms and he felt his breath leave his lungs. The male was beautiful, and he would have followed him if Jungkook hadn’t dragged him up to the surface. Gasping in the harsh surface air it was so different and his throat hurt, like it was too dry as if he hadn’t been under water for a good three hours.

Getting pulled back up with everyone else he accepted a towel and went to take a shower, to wash the salt off his skin. Returning to his quarters Namjoon waited for him already in a pair of sweats and a tshirt eyes shining like he’d just been shown a new book. “What’s with your dazed look?” he asked raising an eyebrow drying his hair slipping sweats on, when Namjoon didn’t respond he walked in front of him waving a hand, then snapping his fingers until the male blinked and looked up at him sheepishly. Shaking is head he leaned back against the wall asking what he thought of Atlantis. “What I think? I think it’s weird. It’s like, gravity doesn’t work or something. They could have liquids in cups but they don’t spread out into the other water!” he said and Namjoon raised an eyebrow.

“Well I thought it was beautiful, all the colors and the fish and the people! Sure they were, scary but they were so pretty. Their tails are so different, each unique.” he rambled on more about how he thought the food was good and how cool it was to breathe underwater and finally Jungkook snapped a frustrated yell as he kicked can over fuming. How could his best friend go on about how beautiful this place- atlantis was when the people, creatures that lived there had killed many people?! How could he call them beautiful and want to go back? Sure he agreed they were beautiful, mesmerizing but they used those good looks to lure you into the waters to kill you and this was his life! He didn’t want this! Why did Namjoon seem so okay with this? Was it because as long as he wasn’t the one being married off to one of those creatures he was fine?

This was so unfair .

After his mini temper tantrum Namjoon quieted down, “Jungkook? I know you’re angry, but this could be a step towards peace. That means no more death...we don’t have to be apprehensive and always on guard when we go out to sea..” started trying to talk sense into Jungkook but he was fuming screaming about how that he shouldn’t have to be the one suffering so everyone else can have peace. If they want peace then someone else should willingly marry a sea creature and Namjoon’s eyes softened slightly at his friends state of distress. “Maybe, but you’re the captain’s son, and Taehyung Poseidon’s. I’m sure he didn’t want to be married off to you either, maybe try to make the best of it?” he said trying to stay optimistic but that was a little hard when your best friend was ranting and screaming.

“Did you forget he’s a siren Namjoon? He needs human blood to survive. That means for his entire life he’ll be killing humans! To drink their blood! He’s an ocean vampire! He was staring at me as if I were a three course meal at a fine restaurant!” exclaimed before his dad opened the door sighing.

“That’s another thing, he’ll be feeding off you now..Jungkook. Since you’re his husband to be he’ll drink your blood to survive, and it would look bad for Poseidon’s son to go around killing humans every time he got hungry, would encourage the others that that was fine even with the treaty. That’s why he’s going to drink your blood, but because you’d die he’ll be feeding every day once we meet him at the cove..” he explained and Jungkook shrieked with anger because why him?! Walking out onto deck he leaned against the railing holding the metal so tightly his knuckles turned bone white as he trembled with all the bottled up rage. So he wasn’t only being married off to a creature like Taehyung, but allowing him to feed off his blood too. How could he trust him, he could kill him if he kept drinking! Namjoon to get some sleep before following his son he sighed trying to explain that this would be good, that if he got to know Taehyung maybe he was nice and Jungkook shook the hand on his shoulder off anger blazing in his eyes.

“You sold me to Poseidon’s son. You’re letting him feed on me, drink my blood do you hear yourself?!” he yelled and Junghyun rubbed his temples a headache coming on now. He did understand, he understood very clearly what he had done selling his son to Poseidon’s siren son...but Poseidon had done the same with Taehyung. Had agreed to it even if his son wouldn’t like it because they both wanted peace even if it would be hard with all the, hatred between their kind and humans. Especially hard because he had raised Jungkook to hate mermaids and sirens with every fiber of his being. Trained him to kill them, showed him how to descale them to sell back at the harbor, and now he was telling him to get married to one.

Jungkook stalked off a curt good night slamming his door so the ship shook before throwing himself down onto his bed tears pricking the corners of his eyes. He had to marry a siren, he was still trying to process the fact that he was even going to marry someone that wasn’t even human, yet a small part of his mind questioned him. Why he hated Taehyung, and that even if he were marrying someone he hated, so was Taehyung and the siren had at least been a little civil only fighting back when provoked.

Chapter Text

Taehyung currently sat in his room colorful fish swimming around as he sighed rolling around in his bed. In two days he’d be on land, would have to shift and he wasn’t looking forwards to it. Finally he managed to fall asleep dreaming of the day he found his mother’s tail on a stand near the seaside. He had sunk two ships that day in a rage killing humans on sight.

The next day or so passed without thought, Taehyung still collected shells and played with the kids, but he also had to pack for his stay at Jungkook’s. He was to stay the night although he doubted he’d be able to, his skin wouldn’t be able to handle it. Packing his toothbrush, hair brush, a small drawing pad and his favorite shell he then zipped up his backpack slinging it over his shoulder. Grabbing a crown he then swam out to where his father was frowning again when he told him to follow closely, saying that they were meeting the Jeon’s at the cove.

Arriving Poseidon easily shifted and waited for Taehyung who was hesitant, he hated shifting it was painful and he didn’t see why he had to. With a glare and thin lips he pulled himself up onto a slab of rock, taking a deep breath he thought of legs, willed his own and at first nothing happened and he was about to say sorry with a smug look. Then there was a shift in his bones, a crunching grinding noise and a scream of agony from Taehyung’s own mouth eyes wide open and his tail was literally being ripped in half a violent ripping noise and he panted fists closed so tightly crescent moons were embedded in his palms where his nails had been knuckles bone white.

That’s how Jungkook found him, walking with his father along the shore only to hear a scream of what could only be pain. Curious he ventured into the cave to find a boy, naked panting two legs and what looked like a second skin sliding off dispersing in the water in swirls of dark blue and red. “Taehyung?” he asked hesitating, it looked like Taehyung, and his father nodded urging him on saying he needed to help him.

When he tried to reach out though there was a snarl of “don’t touch me!” from Taehyung as he trembled pain shooting up through his bones every time he tried to move his legs. Jungkook paused, before sighing and easily shedding his coat throwing it over Taehyung’s shoulders snapping that Taehyung can’t just walk around naked! A couple minutes later he shakily stood up and almost tripped grabbing the first thing he could get his hands on. Which happened to be Jungkook, hands digging into his shoulder blades legs trembling he was like a newborn calf. Jungkook just flinched and tensed up as the sharp nails dug into his side but the eyes on him made him suck it up and grit his teeth. Arm wrapping around the siren’s middle he slung Taehyung’s arm over his shoulder.

“Let’s get you to the ship you fish out of water.” grunting as he slowly but surely made his way out of the cave and along the shore making sure his coat kept most of Taehyung hidden his leather coat falling to mid thigh collar flared up to cover most of the siren’s face. Arriving on ship the crew gaped at the boy some asking questions like who he was and if he was dangerous, why was he naked. Jungkook ignored all of them and marched the siren to his room slamming the door. Setting him onto his bed he shoved his closet open, “I have a shirt and some shorts you can wear.” said as he threw taehyung a white shirt and a pair of tan shorts. Nodding the siren just carefully slipped the shirt over his head before pausing, wouldn’t he need something called underwear? About to ask a pair of black boxers hit him in the face “wear those under the shorts. They’re clean.” said gruffly and he made a small clicking sound of acknowledgement.

Once fully dressed he carefully made his way out of Jungkook’s quarters feeling slightly out of place in somewhere so intimate as his bedroom. Instantly a tall guy with purple hair grinned asking him how he was and that his name was Namjoon. Blinking slowly he just nodded again before sidestepping the male and walking out onto the deck where the crew stopped to stare at him. Shifting from foot to foot he looked out at the ocean that was calling him, waves begging him to come back home and leave this godforsaken ship. Then a hand was grabbing his wrist and on reflex he turned slamming said person who grabbed him into a wall eyes flashing red only to be met with a surprised Jeon Jungkook. Standing there like an idiot caging the male in he blinked before telling him not to grab his hand and then whipping around eyes blazing as he stalked off to the front of the ship.

Hopping up onto the bowsprit he delicately walked down and sat down at the end legs dangling off the edge as the wind blew through his hair. He missed the ocean already the spray soaking his legs and the water felt nice against his skin he could already feel drying up. “Hey! Taehyung it’s dinner time if you’re hungry come on!” namjoon called out and he turned to the male his stomach growling. But it wasn’t for food, it was for blood and he only wanted one person’s blood. Jungkook’s, it smelled so sweet and he was sure it would taste even sweeter. He knew he could enchant any of the crew members to feed on it was already obvious with the side glances often filled with wonder that they were under his spell ethereal beauty taking form in Taehyung, midnight blue hair pastel eyes when they’re not glowing red, slim dainty figure just a little shorter than Jungkook. The way he carried himself as if he were floating, they would easily jump into the water for him. Yet he didn’t want the easily accessible, he wanted Jungkook, only his blood smelled good enough.

Jungkook who heard what Namjoon had said frowned, the way Taehyung was looking at him and not at Namjoon put him off. It was as if, he wanted to eat him. “Namjoon just leave him be…” started before Taehyung was up standing on the bowsprit eyes narrowed. He was so hungry, he had fed a day ago but Jungkook’s blood made him want to feed again, the insatiable hunger rising in his chest tongue flitting out to wet his lips nostrils flaring. Carefully he walked down and hopped off onto the deck staring at Jungkook wind blowing his midnight blue locks away from his face shirt raising slightly and he smirked.

“Why in fact, I am quite hungry, but not for whatever you humans eat..” started voice low, gravelly as he took slow steps past Namjoon to where Jungkook stood frozen, “I think something sweet is on the menu for tonight darling.” murmured and for each step forward Taehyung took, it was one step back for Jungkook until the pirate’s back hit the wall and Taehyung was much too close to him scarily sharp teeth forming a toothy smirk. “What do you think?” rasped a hand moving to rest on Jungkook’s hip and he could hear how fast the human’s heart beat, could almost taste the sweetness on his tongue and if his blood was sweet then he could only imagine what Jungkook’s heart tasted like. “Let me taste hm?” voice dripping with water song and Jungkook opened his mouth to say something, anything really but he couldn’t because the hand on his hip had slid under his shirt and he could feel hot breath fanning against his throat before teeth were sinking into flesh breaking it like paper and a strangled sound of pain finally broke free as Taehyung growled.

It was sweet, so intoxicatingly sweet and Taehyung felt a little dizzy honestly Jungkook’s blood was, overwhelming to put it one way. He’d never tasted something quite like Jungkook, blood sweet, like chocolate? Had a hint of salt from the years on sea and somehow Taehyung couldn’t get enough of it letting the red liquid run down down his throat drinking, feeding greedily and all Jungkook could do was grab onto Taehyung’s shoulder head lolling to the side a glazed look washing over as the venom in Taehyung’s saliva helped with the pain of being bitten into now latched onto the siren. Namjoon obviously shouted for help men rushing out only to see Taehyung pressed against Jungkook. Shouts of ‘get the spears!’ filled the air but Taehyung ignored them, drinking what he wanted until he’d had his fill. Backing away he smirked blood running down the corners of his mouth dripping off his chin onto Jungkook’s skin as he licked at the wound not even the least bit sorry.

Junghyun, who had ran out with all the commotion ordered his men to stop as he carefully approached Taehyung asking if he was okay, then he saw the bite on his son’s neck and he couldn’t help the feeling of anger rise before reminding himself that he had agreed to this. He had agreed to basically selling Jungkook as food for Poseidon’s son. It didn’t help the pang of guilt as Jungkook’s glassy eyes blinked slowly even whimpering and reaching for Taehyung the venom still in effect the poor human’s mind not understanding why this beautiful creature was backing away. Then he was pulled out the sound of waves crashing against the ship loud in his ears eyes and mind clearing only now understanding fully what had happened.

Taehyung had bit him, drank his blood.

He felt so dirty, letting a creature, a siren drink his blood and the fucker looked smug about it too. “Thanks for the meal darling.” drawled out, low and slow as Taehyung smirked turning to walk away returning to his spot on the edge of the bowsprit leaving a confused crew and a fuming Jungkook. Almost immediately he had wanted to chase and murder the siren for, for assaulting him like that, but then he remembered that his father had said he’d be Taehyung’s host in a way. So instead he growled and stalked off to his quarters to brood by himself.

Glancing into the mirror a hand reaching up he gently felt where the bite had been, the wound wasn’t open something in Taehyung’s saliva had closed any open puncture holes to stop bleeding, but the bruises and indents of the siren’s teeth were there dark purple and blue. It looked, almost pretty he mused before shaking his head. No, nothing from Taehyung would be pretty, especially not a bite. With that thought he crawled into bed and tried to doze off, unfortunately the world hated him and no matter how hard he tried, even with the ship rocking gently nothing could make his eyelids feel heavy. Grabbing a book he turned his bedside candle on and started to read to himself with a sigh vaguely wondering if the siren was still outside, watching the water.

Taehyung who still sat perched on the bowsprit noticed light start to drift out from under Jungkook’s door, it was almost two in the morning what was he doing? Curiously he got up and shakily walked over to peek in only to find the human seemingly fast asleep book over his face candle dangerously low. Frowning he opened the door and stared at him for a second before marking the page with the humans book ribbon and setting it on his bedside table. Now really looking at him he decided Jungkook was pretty, the kind of pretty that made people want to bend over backwards to please. Brushing hair out of the pirates face his fingers ghosted over the bite he left before extinguishing the candle and leaving door shutting quietly behind him, If Taehyung had looked back one more time before shutting the door, he would have seen Jungkook’s eyes following his figure out into the night.

“All men on deck! All men on deck!” and a bell rang awakening Jungkook who had at some point after Taehyung had left with the feeling of fingers against his neck. Tumbling off his bunk he groaned rubbing his back that had kissed the hard wooden floor. Stumbling out bleary eyed to see the sun had just started to rise he didn’t see where everyone was looking, his only thought of ‘where’s Taehyung?’ because he wasn’t perched on the bowsprit.

No he was laying on the ground barely breathing eyes unblinking staring into nothing and even now he looked breathtaking. No one dared touch the siren though, too terrified of what could happen, and Jungkook wondered why. Stepping forward he knelt down shouts of ‘be careful!’ echoing as he reached out to shake Taehyung’s shoulder. Recoiling in surprise when he was met with incredibly dry flaky skin he stared watching glittering flakes of dry skin, almost scales dust the floor.

“Jungkook, remember, if you ever catch a siren just lock them in the spare room. If they’re out of the water for more than twenty four to forty eight hours they’ll dry up. Especially the ones who don’t venture on land much!” Junghyun would always say as he nodded before running off to play with Namjoon among the sails shrieking with laughter.

It wasn’t until he was fourteen that he really saw what happened to a siren out of water. Skin drying, scaling eyes glazed as they struggled to breathe the air drying out their lungs. He watched as the siren’s last breath left in a puff of glitter before they stilled body twitching. It was strangely beautiful, in some sick twisted way, to watch a creature of the sea die just because they’re body wasn’t accustomed to his world.

“He’s drying up, we need to get him to the water..” he murmured to himself before hooking his arms under Taehyung’s body grunting as he struggled to lift him up. How long had he stayed out of water? Why didn’t he go back in when everyone else was asleep? That would have been the perfect time to go for a dip, to rehydrate his incredibly dry skin that no one had noticed losing it’s shine becoming drier than the desert. Making it half way across the deck before falling back panting he groaned because how heavy was this thing? No one was helping him, all thinking the same thing.

‘If this boy dies, Jungkook won’t have to marry a siren…’

Hell even Jungkook had been thinking that, but something was telling him there was a reason why Taehyung hadn’t left the boat, sitting on the bowsprit for hours staring at the water and he wanted to know why. There was something the boy wasn’t or hadn’t told him, and he was going to find out what it was. Heaving breaths he managed to drag Taehyung to the edge and lifted him over, the only problem? He got pulled overboard with the damn thing.

A scream caught in his throat freezing water washed over his body as his head slammed into the ship’s side before he pushed away only to come face to face with another siren who smirked. “Well hello there darling, so sad of you to fall overboard now isn’t it?” murmured fingers coming out to stroke the pirate’s face who jerked away a scream bubbling up. Head whipping from side to side he was met with sirens, surrounded by them and he was going to die. Where was Taehyung? Looking down he saw the boy sinking into the darkness and he couldn’t breathe, he really was going to be fish food. Feeling claws rip at his skin animalistic snarls and chitters he screamed in agony red bursting into the water, red because he was bleeding his vision darkening.

The last thing he remembered was a snarl and shrieks of pain, and pastel eyes glowing in the distance. Pastel eyes that belonged to Taehyung, who had shifted legs snapping together ribbons of flesh lacing them to make a tail scales forming eyes snapping open to see Jungkook surrounded by sirens. Sirens who were now attacking him and something bubbled up inside him that felt a lot like rage. A snarl and his tail was whipping back and forth arms outstretched razor sharp nails raking down a sirens face other arm going around one’s side and throwing it under the ship as he circled Jungkook, protecting him. Once the other’s hesitated before snarling and swimming away he grabbed Jungkook by the middle and swam up towards the ship practically launching himself onto the deck scaring the shit out of poor Namjoon who almost got flattened by his tail.

Shifting back with a scream tail ripping apart legs revealed scales falling onto the floor bloody from being torn apart so quickly he grabbed Jungkook and picked up hip bridal style on shaky legs, he wasn’t breathing, scratches on his skin some so deep it was scary left leg almost shredded and he couldn’t see anything but the wounds pouring red onto deck. Snarling at anyone who dared come close he set him down on a wooden table. Staring at the bloodied body he was panicking, Jungkook wasn’t breathing and the crew was staring at him, at the captain’s son, waiting for something, for Taehyung to do something, anything.

A silence fell over the ship, gloomy and dark because it was as if they already knew what had happened, Jungkook would never survive, he’d lost so much blood and the chances of surviving a siren’s attack by one was unlikely, an entire swarm of them? That was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. So Taehyung did the only thing he knew would save the boy, leaning down there was a split second of hesitance before cold lips were pressed against the human’s breathing life into him hand moving to cup the human’s cheek as he searched for a conscious.

Jungkook had seen much death on his ship, crew members pulled into unforgiving waters, lured by merfolk, but the one thing he wouldn’t ever forget was when a siren brought someone back. Bleeding from a gash in the side, it was his best friend, Namjoon who had fallen overboard and right into the siren’s hands and he begged someone to save him, anyone but it was obvious he was so far gone. He hadn’t understood at first why the siren had brought his dying friend back, was it so he could watch the life fade from his eyes? Were they that cruel? But then the siren was, kissing Namjoon and eyes fluttered open and he understood why.

The siren had loved Namjoon, so much that they couldn’t kill him instead bringing him back.

That was the day he learned that a siren’s kiss could bring someone back from the dead, the catch? They had to love the other person enough to evade death.

Chapter Text

Jungkook was floating, in black he thought he was dead, pretty sure he was dead actually why were there other bodies in this river. Moaning and screams of agony and he looked down skin a pale pasty white, turning to the person next to him a silent scream caught in his throat. They were covered in this slime, eyes vacant and white and he clawed at them to get away only to bump into more.

Blinding light from above made him look up to see, Taehyung? Swimming down a hand outstretched as he grabbed Jungkook’s wrist pulling him from the river. It was only when he was safely in Taehyung’s arms clinging to him like he was the air he needed to breathe that it hit him. That had been the Styx river, he had been in a river headed for the underworld.

Gasping his eyes flew open when Taehyung pulled away and then the siren was moving back and in a moment of panic he grabbed his wrist “d-don’t leave me!” croaked out before dragging him back sitting up trembling. “You-you…” trailed off as he stared at Taehyung, the siren had brought him back to life with a siren’s kiss of life. It only worked once a year, and Taehyung had used it on him.

Another nagging thought at the back of Jungkook’s mind, you needed to love the person for it to work.

What did that mean? Did Taehyung-?

“I don’t know how it worked, but it did.” he said gruffly before grabbing bandages from one of the crew members who didn’t dare go near Jungkook yet, they didn’t know if the siren would snap at them again. “You’re hurt, the siren’s got you really bad. Lucky I was able to grab you before your soft human body was ripped to pieces.” as he cleaned up blood and really looked at the cuts. Jungkook’s leg was shredded, deep claw marks in his calf going upwards disappearing under his shorts. “First human to survive a siren’s attack..” he murmured to himself as his hand feathered over the shredded skin, “it’s completely torn, ligaments and muscles are shredded.” said as he took a deep breath, suddenly there was a slam and Junghyun screaming about his son rushing towards them and Taehyung’s protective instincts kicked in only seeing a human rushing towards him and Jungkook and even though he knew that he wouldn’t hurt Jungkook he couldn’t help an animalistic snarl rip from his throat crouching over Jungkook eyes flashing red teeth bared and he froze.

Staring at his mangled leg Junghyun’s throat worked trying to create words but nothing came out.  Finally Taehyung told him to come closer slowly and he did, hesitantly walking next to Taehyung. Ordering the captain to keep Jungkook alive he turned to the edge of the boat, “i’ll be back as soon as I can, don’t let the dumbass die.” muttered before he was moving to jump in the water and panic bubbled up in Jungkook’s throat a cry of ‘be safe!’ that surprised everyone, even Taehyung who paused and turned a small smile “I will.” and then he dove under the waves shifting with a groan and swam to atlantis, where his father was.

Where the medicine they desperately needed was.

Trembling Jungkook’s mind was frazzled, Taehyung was gone. He had gone into the water and even though the rational part of his brain was telling him that he was a siren, he’d be fine. All he could think about were the long nails and the razor sharp teeth tails whipping back and forth, teeth ripping into flesh nails dragging skin down drawing blood and he didn’t even register the scream that fought its way out of his throat another whimper for Taehyung because with him Jungkook felt safe.

In his muddled mind only Taehyung could protect him and without him here Jungkook felt like everything was collapsing around him. The crew didn’t know what to do, they’d never been in a siren’s attack and lived to tell the tale, but they knew, they knew that it would haunt Jungkook’s dreams for years and they were suddenly extremely relieved that Taehyung had been on board, otherwise they would have lost someone very dear to them.

They still hadn’t asked why Taehyung hadn’t gone into the water when they had been sleeping, why he had stayed on ship even if he almost died.

About half an hour later Taehyung was crawling back up onto ship crew pulling him in large tail accidentally slapping poor Namjoon in the face, it wasn’t until they stepped back that they saw someone else with Taehyung. An incredibly tall siren who held Taehyung’s hand as he shifted tears pricking his eyes new bloodied legs ripping the tail in half as he stumbled up and the minute Jungkook saw him he was crying out again, struggling to sit up relief in his eyes as his father held him down so he wouldn’t hurt himself more. “This is Seokjin, a friend of mine. He can-he can help Jungkook.” he said and they nodded letting the siren walk forward to inspect the boy a murmur to himself before whipping his head to Taehyung the words on the tip of his tongue questions in his eyes because the siren had brought the boy back to life. He could sense it, the way death clung to him a feeble light keeping his heart just barely beating.

Taehyung’s light keeping his heart going.

Nodding to himself he gently pressed the shredded skin back together beckoning Taehyung to his side, “pop the bottle and pour it over his leg.” ordered and he nodded popping the cork a slightly luminescent purple liquid poured over Jungkook’s mangled leg and they watched the skin stitch back together silver lines where the tears had been, Seokjin then grabbed what looked like seaweed and wrapped it around Jungkook’s leg tying it into a knot so it’d stay. “His leg is healed, he shouldn’t try to walk on it for awhile, keep the seaweed on it’ll keep the skin moist so it doesn’t dry out. When you need more Taehyung will get it.” explained and the crew nodded.

Turning the siren stared at Namjoon a thin smile on his lips, “Fancy seeing you here again, would have thought after the accident you’d swear off sailing.” mused before shaking his head, “alas that’s in the past. Taehyung, next time don’t be so reckless. You must remember, you need to be in the water every now and then otherwise your skin will dry out. You will dry out.” and then he was over the edge swan diving into the water disappearing beneath the crashing waves leaving a confused Namjoon who felt like he had recognized the man from somewhere...anywhere but his memory failed him and he brushed it off after awhile.

“Hey, you never did explain why you didn’t go in the water while we were sleeping, it would have been a perfect time for you to hydrate your skin..” one male said as Taehyung turned to face them a grim smile on his face when he said he couldn’t. Confusion sweeping over the crew questions flew at him left and right before Jungkook silenced them with a simple sentence.

“He was protecting us, the ship from being sunk. The sirens had been circling us for I don’t know how long, but that’s why he was sitting on the bowsprit right?” said as he turned his head chocolate brown eyes staring at the siren who nodded stiffly.

“If I had gotten into the water they would have attacked, they can’t attack the boat if I’m on it. That’s considered a direct attack on the son of Poseidon, I’m the prince of the waters. To attack me is as good as going to an early grave.” said softly turning to face the ocean, “So yes. I was making sure the ship didn’t sink. I may not, be very fond of the arrangement our fathers had conversed and agreed to, but I must keep up my end of the deal. That means keeping Jungkook safe, and if he’s on this boat, then this boat safe.” explained and the crew was silent trying to absorb this new information. They hadn’t even noticed the sirens circling their ship, finally one man spoke up with thanks the rest soon following. Turning to tell them that it’s only a part of his responsibilities he was met with the entire crew bowing slightly to him the sound of waves crashing against the boat sun catching Taehyung’s midnight blue hair so it looked like a halo was around him and Jungkook thought he really looked like an ocean prince, and he wished he had a camera to catch the moment but he didn’t, and his leg still hurt like hell.

After helping Jungkook into his quarters Taehyung carefully put a blanket over him frowning whenever he saw his hurt leg. Thank god for Seokjin’s magical ocean potions, they would have had a problem without him. They do have a bigger problem than that though, one of them being why did the siren’s attack? Poseidon had made it clear that the Jeon’s ship was their ally now, and he knew that most merfolk didn’t appreciate this new arrangement, but none had been so bold to try and sink it, to attack Jungkook knowing full on that he was engaged to be Taehyung’s husband.

About to leave Jungkook grabbed his wrist asking him to stay, and normally Taehyung would have brushed it off and scoffed but maybe it was the way he was still trembling slightly, or the slightly fear tinged words as if some siren would personally walk out onto the boat to murder him if Taehyung wasn’t there to protect him. Maybe it was the slight twinge in his heart that had him nodding mutely and carefully laying next to the boy careful not to disturb his hurt leg.

That was how Junghyun found the two, curled up in Jungkook’s bed both fast asleep Jungkook in Taehyung’s arms sleeping soundly. Blinking he just smiled to himself and quietly shut the door leaving the two to their own little world for now. Instead he walked to the deck where Poseidon stood a grim look on his face. “Apparently some sirens don’t approve of Taehyung’s, engagement. So they’re targeting his to be husband since they can’t directly kill him. They figured that if they kill his husband then he’ll marry someone of his kind.” explained and Junghyun nodded, “I’m aware that Taehyung kissed Jungkook which brought your boy back to life?” and when he got another nod of confirmation he frowned. “Normally I’d be ecstatic to hear that, it means that somewhere in Taehyung’s heart, Jungkook does mean something to him whether he likes it or not, but it also complicates things because if Jungkook were to die again, well let’s just say that it wouldn’t be pretty for any human on the water.” he said a grim look on his face.

“You don’t think the kiss saved Jungkook because of the past?” he asked frowning, it was no secret that Jungkook wasn’t Junghyun’s real son. He had found him around the age of five or six, near the shore in ratty clothes and took him under his wing. Jungkook probably didn’t remember any more, but until he was about seven or eight, he had played with someone he called ‘pretty’. Junghyun had only seen this friend once, most thought it was an imaginary friend, but Junghyun knew that it was a creature in the sea. The sparkles on Jungkook’s nose, the faint red marks on his arms and legs, the way his eyes lit up when he saw the sea.

Only a siren could affect a boy like that, make him return every single day for almost ten years, only a siren could enchant a boy like Jungkook with pretty shell crowns and laughter like the angels kisses soft as feathers.

Then the accident happened, and Jungkook didn’t remember his friend ‘pretty’ but Junghyun was almost positive that this ‘pretty’ from Jungkook’s childhood was Taehyung. His boy got the same starstruck look in his eyes even if it was hard to find it at first whenever he saw Taehyung, and the way he clung to him?

It had to be Taehyung, but Jungkook didn’t remember him, and it was obvious Taehyung wasn’t bringing it up, or didn’t recognize the boy anymore.

*****

He ran to the sea, sand kicking up behind him as he carefully made his way across the rocks a giggle when he saw his friend. “Pretty!” called and Jungkook made it safely to the cove, their secret place where they could play. “Pretty look! I made it across the rocks without your help!” and he was smiling with a thousand watts brighter than the sun. Taehyung swam up grinning and saying how proud he was of Jungkook who cheekily asked for a kiss as a reward. Easily agreeing the siren sat in the sand Jungkook seated in his lap slightly webbed hands resting on the boys waist as he leaned up a soft smile on his face.

Lips pressed together and Jungkook melted shy giggles filling the cavern as Taehyung joined him after pulling away to peck his nose. For as long as he could remember, Jungkook had been by Taehyung’s side. The siren had found him at the young age of three or four. Since then four year old Taehyung would swim and meet up with the human boy, giggling and keeping him company only to return to the sea each time the sun set promises to come back tomorrow in the air.

“Pretty Pretty look at this!” Jungkook called as he jumped into the waves with a splash and Taehyung giggled swimming up to him. “Your tail is so pretty! Can I touch it?” and he nodded shyly looking away as he felt the boys hands roam the smooth scales wonder in his eyes. “I wish I had a tail! I wish I was like you, then I could swim into deeper waters with you!” he pouted and demanded a kiss to feel better which Taehyung just chuckled easily kissing the boy silly.

“Pretty! I have a home! This nice man called Jeon Junghyun is taking care of me!” and he smiled, words of ‘i’m glad’ and ‘be careful with him he’s a stranger!’ spoke as they laid in the sun the cove protecting them from wandering eyes. “Don’t worry, I’ll still visit you every day!” chirped and he felt his heart grow three times in size another laugh because he knew that the boy would one day have to go.

He just didn’t expect the day to come so soon.

He had been waiting patiently for Jungkook to come, sunning himself on a rock when an older man arrived with curses on his lips when he slipped on rocks. “You must be pretty.” said gruffly and his head shot up eyes narrowing a hiss, this wasn’t Jungkook. Who was this. “Let me introduce myself,” he started as Taehyung watched him warily, “I’m Jeon Junghyun, the man who’s taking care of Jungkook. Your friend.” and he nodded, so this was the man. He didn’t sense any evil or bad energy around him yet something felt off, put Taehyung on edge like he wasn’t to be trusted, and he looked like a pirate.

Pirates hated his kind.

“What are you doing here? How did you find me, where’s Jungkook?” asked and the man wore a grim face, words of an accident happening on ship and Taehyung felt his world crumble. “An-accident?” whispered and Junghyun nodded.

“Yes, we were putting the mast up and Jungkook got hit in the head, pretty hard to. He, I’m sorry but he doesn’t remember you. I asked and he had no recognition of your name.” and Taehyung felt his world freeze. Jungkook doesn’t remember him, the boy he met age four, played with every day. The boy who would whine for kisses when he fell or got hurt or even had some sort of minor inconvenience, the boy his heart beat faster for and he got what humans called ‘butterflies’ in his belly didn’t remember him.

Taehyung didn’t return to the cove after that day, he had no idea that Jungkook visited the day after ‘looking for pretty shells’ only to find the pretty siren gone.

They had no idea it was all a trick, lies skillfully weaved into a web by Junghyun himself who didn’t trust merfolk and ripped Jungkook’s closest friend from his arms after finding out he had been hanging around one. Who had ‘accidentally’ hit him in the head with the mast and made sure that Jungkook either didn’t remember Taehyung or would think he abandoned him.

Taehyung learned an important lesson that day: never fall in love with a human. It’s like ripping your own heart out.

Chapter Text

Poseidon frowned, “It appears Taehyung doesn’t recognize Jungkook either, or has locked those memories away. A shame that Jungkook got hit in the head with the mast of your ship Taehyung was devastated.” eyes narrowing and Junghyun nodded in agreement. No one knew he had done it on purpose, to keep Jungkook away from Taehyung. At the time he thought he was doing it to protect Jungkook from being eaten or worse, he didn’t know that eight years later he’d be arranging a marriage with the same boy who Jungkook fell in love with when he was younger.

This entire ordeal had become a huge mess within a couple of days. They just had to hope for the best...hope that no one else got hurt but that was unlikely with sirens plotting to kill his boy. “Junghyun, give this to Jungkook. The sirens will think more about attacking him when he wears this.” Poseidon said and Junghyun frowned asking what it was, “it’s one of Taehyung’s scales. If Jungkook is in any kind of danger it’ll notify him immediately and he’ll know. It’ll also tell the sirens that Jungkook is property of Kim Taehyung, meaning if he finds them doing anything to your son well I hope Davey Jones s with them.” he said chuckling to himself. Junghyun nodded and took the scale attached to a silver chain saying that he’d make sure it made it’s way to Jungkook. Bidding the sea god good bye he turned to see Namjoon staring at the water.

“Namjoon? Son why’re you looking so lost in thought?” he asked and the male shook his head smiling softly because he couldn’t quite pin his thoughts down himself, but something was telling him that that merman Seokjin?

He had met him before.

“It’s nothin capt’n just admiring the ocean again. It’s late I should be getting to bed.” he said smiling as he nodded and disappeared down to the crew’s quarters leaving Junghyun alone on deck looking out at the ocean lips set in a thin line. Turning he walked to Jungkook’s quarters and quietly opened the door to find Jungkook surprisingly awake nestled against Taehyung’s chest.

“Son, wear this. It’ll offer more protection, it’s one of Taehyung’s scales Poseidon dropped it off.” he said and handed him, Jungkook nodded and slid the chain over his neck the scale resting in the middle of his sternum cold to the skin yet offered a sense of comfort. After his father left he held it in his hands fingers rubbing against the smooth surface and he had this nagging feeling in the back of his head that he had felt this before..somehow he had seen scales like this up close and it wasn’t when he had gotten into the water two days ago.

A couple hours later Taehyung woke to find Jungkook still in his arms snuggled up reading a book eyes catching something dark on a chain. “Is that a scale?” he asked and Jungkook hummed in confirmation, saying that his father had brought it for him and Taehyung frowned trying to think of when his father could have gotten one of his scales. It looked new, like that one pulled from what would have been his upper left thigh when Poseidon had said it was a health check and removed it. “Take good care of it Jeon.” he mumbled not even realizing he had been itching his arm until Jungkook grabbed his hand to stop it.

“You need to go in the water Tae. It’s been a while, you’re still new to being on land. I bet the air hurts your lungs, your skin’s already drying up again.” he said and the boy huffed, “C’mon, let’s go you fish out of water.” he grumbled and got up wincing which had Taehyung all over him again fretting because ‘you’re not supposed to walk on that leg you fool!’ as he grabbed the boy a crutch sighing.

Going to the boat edge Jungkook nodded, “You’ll be fine. I’ll even sit at the back and talk to you.” said and then he jumped overboard and dove elegantly into the water shifting legs morphing into a tail scales bursting out of skin a flash of blue and red as he swam around feeling like he could breathe again. Swimming to the back he just stared up at Jungkook a raised eyebrow. “Okay, so I have a question..” the boy trailed off which peaked Taehyung’s interest as he boosted himself up so he was sitting on the edge of the back of the boat tail in the water looking up at Jungkook with a ‘go ahead then’ look on his face. “How come the sirens were surrounding our boat?” and he paused thinking.

“Because they want you dead. They don’t, agree with this arrangement our parents have and they think that if they kill you i’ll be ‘free’ in a way.” he started carefully watching his words, “They think that, if you’re dead then I’ll choose one of them instead.” he finally said after deep thought. Jungkook nodded in understanding, that made sense. If he was dead Taehyung would have no one to marry to and the deal would be broken off. “Is that all your questions?” he asked and Jungkook shook his head.

“Uh, that siren, Seokjin? Did he, know Namjoon?” and Taehyung paused, before smiling slightly bitterly to himself.

“That’s not my business to tell, but let’s just say there’s some, unfinished business between them.” he said shrugging and Jungkook wanted to ask more about it, how did Namjoon know him, was that the siren the one who had brought him his friend back to life? He refrained though and when Taehyung looked at him eyes asking if that was all he almost wanted to ask another one. ‘Did Taehyung love him? Is that why he was brought back to life?’ but he held his tongue instead “no, no more questions.” murmured and the siren nodded and didn’t push it even if he knew there was something else on the male’s mind.

The next couple of weeks passed by fairly undisturbed. Taehyung would spend time on the ship, each time able to stay out of the water longer. Jungkook would visit Atlantis for dinner or lunch or even breakfast and the boys slowly tried to get to know each other a little better. Maybe it’s because Taehyung saved his life, or because he had stayed when he asked but Jungkook hated the siren a little less each day. Didn’t mean they didn’t have arguments because did, and it was horrible. Things got thrown and there was yelling and usually it was Taehyung jumping ship and swimming off to some random rock in the ocean to sit on to cool off.

Then the wedding day was coming up and they had decided to have it at sunset cove. Planning was in tow and many nights where they, well Jungkook was fitted into tight black swim leggings and a jacket with silver embellishments. Taehyung had recently dyed his hair so it was bright red, and Jungkook would never admit it but it looked really good on the boy.

“Jungkook! Hurry up the wedding starts soon!” was shouted and he groaned sheathing his sword and grabbed his black hat placing it on his head and emerged from his quarters telling everyone to calm down because he was there. Soon he saw the cove come into view and it took his breath away, it was beautiful the sun just barely setting yet still washing the stones in hues of red and orange. Staring at the flat jutting rock he felt as if he had, been here before. Many times, it had a sense of familiarity to him and he didn’t know why.

‘Promise you’ll come back?’ and a hopeful boys face came into view, young Jeon Jungkook who had blue and red sparkles in his hair and frosting his cheeks and nose.

‘I promise!’ and a boy, around the same age with a dark blue tail and midnight blue hair, pastel eyes before he disappeared into the waves.

He ran to the boat high on life smiling to himself as others stared almost positive he had been seeing one of those creatures in the ocean, but no one commented on it.

“Jungkook? Snap out of it we’re almost there!” Namjoon said and he blinked, why did that memory resurface, was it a memory? Maybe a dream, no it felt too real to be a dream..suddenly Namjoon was pointing towards the cove and he looked up to have his breath taken away. The cave entrance was dressed with various colorful plants, beautiful vines pigments painted onto the leaves hanging down and when they entered the crystal blue waters reflected prettily onto the ceiling. Merfolk were already there, some lounging on rocks others having shifted to stand and set up tables and other things. “We’re here, the ceremony starts in about half an hour from what I’ve heard.” his friend said as he pulled him off the boat. Nodding dumbly he watched as most mermen and mermaids smiled at him politely, but the sirens that were there glared at him turning their noses at the human. He tried not to let his skin crawl though, they wouldn’t try to do anything like oh y’know rip his heart from his chest or cut his vocal chords with this many witnesses...right?

Right…

Wiping his sweaty palms on his leggings he greeted merfolk with a nervous smile some pirates warily walking out off the ship. This was the first time in centuries that humans and merfolk wouldn’t be at each other’s throats while in the same room, everyone on their best behavior for the sake of the wedding. Turning to talk to Namjoon he found that the little traitor had gone to converse with a siren, the siren that had helped them before he was pretty sure Seokjin was his name. Deciding not to bother his friend he went to go look at the water, even under the surface you could see-glitter? Floating the light reflecting off it making the water seem even prettier than it already was...he wondered what Taehyung was wearing for this, celebration. Would it be extravagant? Would he shift?

Somehow he found himself slightly eager to see his husband to be, but he’d never admit it out loud.

Notes:

Hey, so I know I've been basically mia for an entire month. I didn't mean to disappear, but my computer got completely trashed T-T and I had to go buy a new one which was stressful, and I took some art classes at a university in the city and caught a minor cold. June turned out to be a busier month than I expected oops.

The good news? I'm back and have more of Water Song written out so I'm excited. My goal is to post at least once a month(I know so long to wait for chapters i cri) but I want them to be my best writing I can give instead of a rushed crappy chapter because I love all my readers and want them to read the best I can provide!!

I am still working on my other fics, but I unfortunately don't know when I'll update them, if it'll be next week or next month but those works will be updated, eventually.

Thank you for all the support! I really appreciate it, reading all the positive comments motivates me to write and keeps my spirits up.

As always, have a great day!!

Gao~

Chapter 6: Bad News

Chapter Text

Okay, I know I've been gone a real long time. I know I left yall on a cliff hanger and you probably hate me ;-;

I have more bad news. No this won't be getting updated anymore, why?

ALL MY STORIES IN MY GOOGLE DRIVE GOT DELETED.

dafsulefhaUwiefhnawlkjsfnialuwdhbnlgfwjaileusk

I don't know how, or why they got deleted, I can't remember if I maybe deleted all my writing in a depressive episode where I wasn't satisfied with everything and maybe? deleted everything and trashed my computer in frustration? or if it was just a glitch in the software itself.

I truly don't know how this happened, or why and I am just as bummed as you because I did plan on working more on this story and actually had another chapter or two already written for it.

Do not fear though, I will have other works I just, well have to start from day 0. again....

so? all in all? this sucks, but since I don't have my rough draft I've lost the entire vibe for this story and honestly my motivation for it since it's been so long. Depression sucks, but makes for great angst writing :O.

If you guys have any ideas on what you'd like, or any topics or plots you'd like me to write just comment below and I'll check back every now and then and maybe pull a few for drabbles or something!

I will say, I have a little treat for all of you angst lovers that may include a witch Jungkook and a werewolf Yoongi(oh?) what about ghost spirit Taehyung and Vampire Jimin too(OhhHHhO??)

Best Regards,

Gao :D

Hello yall, i know i know it's been literal years. I have some wonderful news though as long as yall would like to see this story truly finished/fleshed out. I have a rework of the entire plot, and it may move a bit slower for the romance however I will be releasing a new Re-Worked Water Song on my profile.

I truly apologize for leaving yall on that wedding cliff hangar, tbh mad at myself too rereading it bc i wanna know what happened too if i could strangle my past self i would LORD.

Anyways, hope yall are still here, I love all my supporters of my work and yalls comments mean the literal world to me/convinced me to get the motivation to really finish this one.

Be on the lookout in the coming week or so for the first chapter!
