Chapter 1: Goodbye Earth, Goodbye Love
Chapter Text
The hangar of the Global Space Station for the Advancement of Mankind was full of people, but he only saw one person. A monotone woman's voice echoed through the halls over the sound of tapping shoes against the white tiled floor and the murmur of conversation, "Space flight number 402C will be boarding in 5 minutes." He stared at the man in front of him who was holding on to a letter and sobbing his heart out. The man wailed and he felt his heart break at the sound. He hugged his lover and buried his face in the scent that was him. He knew it was the right thing to do, he would be part of the colony that would save all people, he would be like the superheros he imagined as a kid, but this man was making it so hard to leave.
"Why do you have to go? Why can't someone else do it?! Why does it have to be you?!" The voice of his lover was so full of pain that he just wanted to forget it all and stay with him; go back to their tiny apartment with their old mattress and the broken TV and just stay, but he couldn't. He said in a soft voice, so that only the man he was holding could hear, "Darling, I won't be gone for long. Don't be so sad." The man in his arms trembled and shook with the force of his sobs and he looked up at him with a tears and snot all over his handsome face as he yelled, getting glances from others that neither of them cared about, "You don't know how long you'll be gone! You don't know if you'll even come ba-"
He interrupted the man with a deep kiss. He wouldn't let him say those words. He would come back to get him, no matter what. They kissed the breath out of each other and all too soon the woman's voice echoed through the halls once more, "Space flight number 402C will be boarding in 1 minute." He pulled away from the gorgeous man and kept their foreheads pressed together, tears welling up and spilling from his own eyes. "I promise," He whispers softly with a smile that showed both of his dimples, "I promise with my whole heart and soul, I will come back for you. I'll make it safe for you and bring you to me." He kissed the most precious person in his life again before he started running to the gate. He spared one last glance at the man who had started sobbing once more the second he left and called out, "Seokjinnie! Smile for me, baby!" He wanted the last memory he has of the love of his life to be of his radiant smile.
Seokjin looked at him and grinned, tears still streaming down his face. He didn't feel happy, but he would do anything for the man at the gate, the man about to go to a totally different planet. His voice echoed in Seokjin's ears as he shouted, "Bye, Love!" and ran behind a wall and out of sight. The gate door lowered completely, yet Seokjin continued to stand there. He clutched the letter he had forgotten to give to the younger man to his heart and, with rivers of tears streaming down his face, whispered in a broken voice,
"Goodbye, Namjoon."
The cab was outside.
He could hear it through the whimpers and pained sobs that leaked from his lips. He clung to the older boy as if he were going to disappear. "It will be fine, baby," he said gently. "You'll see me again soon." He looked up at his lover of 5 months and said, "I don't understand how you're so calm. I'm leaving you. We don't know when I'll come back. You should be as upset as I am."
The taller boy chuckled and pet his hair. "Why would I be upset? I know you will come back for me and I will wait here patiently for you. I love you more than anything in the world, so if this is something you feel you have to do, then I fully support it," He says and kissed him, loving the way their lips molded to one another.
There was a honk that echoed from outside their small house and he started to cry once more. His lover held his face in his hands and he smiled that boxy, rectangle smile that he absolutely loved. "You have to go," he said as he released him. "No goodbyes. You'll be right back," the love of his life whispered as he pushed the younger boy to the door.
"Are you sure you'll be alright by yourself?" He couldn't help but ask for about the one hundredth time that day. The taller boy nodded and waved him out the door. Before he could think about it anymore, he ran to the taxi and climbed into the back seat. He apologized to the driver and they started moving.
He rolled down the window and leaned his head out. The tears came once again before he could stop them. He knew his boyfriend hated goodbyes, but he couldn't help himself.
"Bye Taetae!"
Taehyung smiled at the sound of the young boy's voice. His heart ached. He would miss waking up to soft kisses as the sun shone over their faces and cuddling with him until they were both sticky with sweat from the exchange of body heat. He would miss seeing that little smile that caused his nose to scrunch up and his front teeth to stick out like a cute bunny. He felt a soft breeze wash over his face and he took a deep breath, speaking into the wind.
"Stay safe, Jungkook."
He could taste the sadness in the air.
The apartment was filled with loud sobs and soft cursing from two separate voices. He stood in the middle of the living space, looking at the younger of his two boyfriends. He sat on one end of the couch with tears and snot smeared on his beautiful face, making shiny tracks on his cheeks and across his nose. The eldest of the three in the apartment was sitting on the opposite end of the couch with his head in his hands and he was cursing at the floor as if it was the wood of their floorboards that caused this mess. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. They were all supposed to be smiling, kissing, saying how they would see each other soon... He sat in between the two people he loved the most and hugged the crying boy.
He felt a growing wet spot on the shoulder of his shirt as he held him and ran a hand through his hair. The boy looked up at him with puffy, round doe eyes and his lips quivered. He smiled at him and cooed in a soothing voice, "Don't be so sad, Jiminie. We'll only be 39 minutes away." He wiped the shorter man's face and stroked his cheek. The third piece to their puzzle came over and wrapped his arms around the both of them. He spoke to Jimin once more, saying softly, "The extra 34 million miles doesn't matter."
His younger boyfriend hugged the both of them, whimpering, "I can't live without either of you. How am I supposed to survive by myself?" His heart broke and he could only snuggle his face into the warm skin of Jimin's neck. The voice of the eldest boyfriend rumbled out to the youngest, "You're strong, Kitten. You'll be alright. We'll video chat every day with you and the second it's safe enough, we'll bring you to us." He looked between the two and nodded. They had to pull away after Jimin had calmed down and they wasted no time in leaving sweet kisses all over Jimin's face. The youngest of the three gave them each a long, loving kiss on their lips and walked them out the door. The two older boys climbed into the back seat of the taxi and waved at Jimin through the window. The short boy smiled and waved back, trying not to show the breakdown that was brewing behind his chocolate eyes.
As the car started moving, the two older boyfriends held hands all the way to the station. His heart sunk as the taxi pulled in to the parking lot of the future of humanity. It was a skyscraper, seeming to nearly leave the atmosphere without the use of a rocket, made of steel and glass. He released his boyfriend's hand and got out of the taxi, hearing the older man say he'd pay for the ride. He walked through the large, automatic doors, looking up at the metal sign that read "GSSAM The future of humanity lies within" in large, colored lettering. The lobby was nearly empty, save for a few families parting ways and a compact little robot behind the front desk. He walked up to the desk and looked at the robot carefully. It was cute, with its small build and screen that was black with the exception of a few blue keyboard symbols to resemble a face. The robot stared at him for a second and then a monotone female voice came through the speaker. "Last name, sir?" it asked, not moving an inch. He replied while glancing back at the door, waiting for his boyfriend, "Jung." The robot lifted a tiny flipper-like appendage and motioned towards a long hallway on the left of the desk and spoke again, "Go down the left hall and enter the room on the left. Please be seated, as take off will begin shortly."
The older of the pair finally walked through the automatic glass doors and looked at him. He walked up to the desk as well, eyeing the robot up and down. "Last name, sir?" It asked in the same monotone voice. His voice that was like music to Hoseok's ears replied, "Min." The robot looked at him for a second and lifted its other metal flipper to the hallway on the right side of the desk. "Go down the right hall and enter the room in the center. Please be seated, as take off will begin shortly," it said. Hoseok looked at the last piece to his puzzle and Yoongi could see the panic in his eyes. They were frozen for only a moment before they ran to each other and tightly embraced. Hoseok felt tears spill over his water line and sting his nose. The shorter of the two knew Hoseok hated to be alone, knew he had abandonment issues.
They had to part ways because of a robotic male voice over the intercom that was wired through the whole building, "Space flight 408A will be departing from Earth in 2 minutes." Hoseok forced his hands to let go of the death grip they had on the older man's shirt and they kissed passionately. He heard the voice of his love whisper, "Stay strong, Sunshine." They went in opposite directions down the identical-looking hallways and whispered their goodbyes, even though the other couldn't hear.
"Bye, Hobi. Keep smiling."
"I love you, Yoongi. Come back to me soon."

Chapter Text
Jimin stared at the wall.
There was a picture hanging up of him, Hobi, with his brightly smiling face and his hair dyed red, and Yoongi, his gummy smile poking through his lips as he felt the contagious happiness radiating from his younger two boyfriends. There was a simple black picture frame surrounding the square photo, holding all the layers of thick paper and glass together. They all looked so dazzlingly happy. That picture was from a few years ago, but Jimin remembered it like it was yesterday. He felt the corners of his lips twitch up into a small smile without him even realizing it. His nose started to burn and he quickly stopped smiling, afraid to show any emotion, because he knew if he did, he would end up crying again. He felt dehydrated and tired and there was a pounding ache in his temples that just would not go away. He looked at Holly who was sitting on the couch cushion beside him. His woolly brown fur was soft to the touch as Jimin petted the dog and let him lay his head on Jimin's leg, separated by a large blanket the boy had wrapped himself tightly in.
He and Holly had never really bonded before now. Sure, Jimin had fed him, took him on walks, even played with him sometimes, but in the end, Yoongi was the one the dog always ran towards first. Holly looked up at him with big round eyes and Jimin couldn't help but feel a connection between them. They both had one thing in common now. They both missed Yoongi. The boy sighed softly and hugged the dog, curling up close to the animal and hugging him. The room was nearly silent as he closed his eyes and buried his face into Holly's soft fur. There was a faint stream of incoherent words spoken by multiple voices coming from the TV. Jimin had only turned it on as background noise, to try and block out the lonely voices echoing in his head. His head shot up at the jarring sound of high pitched ringing throughout the room.
Jimin's eyes fell onto the lit up screen of his laptop. Incoming call from...Min Yoongi-C206 was displayed across the bright screen. He just stared at the screen and Holly perked up at the sudden loud sound. His tail was wagging as the saw the picture of Yoongi above the title and he clambered into the lap of the boy, looking up at him expectantly. Jimin reached out and hovered his mouse over the 'Accept call' button. He pinched his cheeks, trying to make them seem puffed out and as chubby as they were when his boyfriends left. It had only been about 2 weeks, but he had lost some weight and he knew Yoongi would be able to tell, since this was their first video call. He just couldn't bring himself to eat anything, the suffocating loneliness in the house squeezing any appetite from him. He accepted the call.
Yoongi held his breath.
Calling...Park Jimin bounced along the screen in a way that seemed to mock him. What if Jimin didn't pick up? He was only allowed 2 video calls and 10 texts per day on Mars, as per the orders of the GSSAM. Something about how they wanted the colonists to focus on the mission or something. He didn't really pay that much attention in the briefing room, thoughts and worries for Hobi running through his mind. He didn't try to talk to anybody. There were a lot of people there from all different countries, but Yoongi didn't have any interest in trying to befriend any one of them. He only wanted to be with his boyfriends again and he was determined to make it safe for them. Finally, Jimin's smiling face appeared on the screen and he felt his mood lighten drastically.
"Yoonie!" Jimin squealed and Holly, who was sitting in his lap, barked and wagged his tail happily. "Hey, kitten," Yoongi replied. He let out a small, relieved sigh, not being able to get over his happiness at seeing his love's face for the first time in 2 weeks. "How have you been?"
"Lonely," Jimin replies slowly. "Holly is wonderful company and all, but it's not the same without you and Seokie. I miss you both." Jimin says and his eyes gleam with a sadness that seemed to underlie his whole mood. Yoongi knew he was sad. Could tell in the way his smile was slightly dimmer, the way his cheeks were thinner, the way he wore that long sleeved sweater even though it was spring time... "I miss you too, Jiminie. I'm sorry we left you alone, if only Hobi would have told me he was signing up..." Yoongi's sentence trailed off as he got lost in his own thoughts. This wouldn't be happening to poor Jimin if Hoseok would have just said something. He could feel the frustration building in the pit of his stomach until Jimin's angelic voice came through the speaker, saying, "To be fair, love, you didn't say anything either. It's not all his fault." He knew Jimin was right. He knew he shouldn't be mad at Hobi, but their whole situation sucked. It sucked really bad and he had always had trouble accepting any part of the blame for situations that sucked.
He really fucking hated it.
"By the way, where is Hoseok? I want to see him and say hi," Jimin said cheerfully, looking around the screen for any sign of his other boyfriend. Yoongi sighed and looked extremely sad with a bit of worry mixed into his beautiful, dark eyes, saying, "He's not here, Jiminie. There are about three colonies, one on the northern tip, one on the southern tip and one on the western edge, facing the sun all the time. I'm on the southern colony and he's on the northern one." He knows how Hoseok is and Jimin knows too, so they just sit in silence for a few seconds. The timer at the bottom of the screen flashes, signalling that they only have 2 minutes left to talk. "Will I be able to call him?" Jimin asks this with such a soft voice that Yoongi almost didn't hear him. The crappy audio quality didn't do much to help either.
"I'm sure you can, kitten. Let me call him and talk to him first, okay? Then he'll call you when he's ready." Yoongi replies and looks at the beautiful boy on the screen. Even with the low quality image, he can tell exactly how lovely Jimin looks. Those thick lips forming a soft pout, those gorgeous eyes looking into the camera, that sharp jaw lining his face perfectly. He was perfect. Yoongi was jarred out of his thoughts by the timer now flashing red. Sixty seconds left. The older of the two men cursed under his breath and bit his lip. He didn't want to leave his love alone again.
"Jiminie, baby, I have to go. I love you and I promise I'll talk to you soon," he says. Yoongi has a sad look on his face as he adds, "And eat something, please. I lo-" The call cuts off and the screen goes black. Jimin stares at the blank screen, his sad reflection staring back at him and Holly whining and pawing at the keyboard of his laptop. The lonely boy whispers, even though no one can hear him.
"I can't eat, Yoongi. I'm not hungry."
Hoseok couldn't be alone.
The cool air nipped at his nose as he was walking home. He just had a really fun session at his dance class and he was more than ready to go home and sleep in his warm, comfortable bed. The lights from the street lamps provided enough light to be able to see the sidewalk clearly, but that was about it. He hated being alone. After class, he had tried to get one of his dance mates to drive him home or at least walk with him, but everyone was busy and he didn't want to bother anyone, so he just had to deal with it. He was on edge. The street was dark and the shadows seemed to try to swallow him up, suffocate him.
Suddenly, there were hands on him.
He tried to yell, but a big, sweaty hand clamped down on his mouth and three muscular arms wrapped around his waist, his chest, his leg. They pulled him into the dark alley and he could feel the panic in his throat, choking him, clawing it's way out of him in the form of tears and full body tremors. He couldn't be alone. The little breath he had was knocked out of him as he was thrown against the wall, his back aching and his vision limited due to the darkness surrounding him. He can vaguely hear a deep voice that he would have found attractive, if not for the situation, demand him for his wallet. He never brings his wallet or his valuables to class, fearing that something like this would happen. "I-I don't have it. I don't have anything." Hoseok didn't even recognize his own voice. It was terrified and trembling just as his whole body was. Suddenly, there was something wet and disgustingly warm on his face and he closed his lips tightly, his tears mixing with the spit that had landed on his cheek. "Useless. Fucking useless." Another voice was in his ear now and just as he filled his lungs with air to scream, it was again knocked out of him by a knee connecting with his stomach.
They beat him, but he hardly felt any of it after the first few punches and kicks. He could only lay on the grimy ground of the alley way as boots and sneakers kicked him, stepped on him, pulled his hair, slammed his face into the ground. He could only lay there and cry and try to stay conscious. Just when he was beginning to lose hope that the assault would ever stop, there was no more. They spit on him again and faintly heard three different voices talking to each other, something about a waste of time. He couldn't move. As his attackers walked out of the alley, he just continued to lay there, sobbing and bleeding from his nose. Hoseok didn't know how long he had laid there, but when he opened his eyes again, there was an angel standing over him. He had a halo of blonde hair and a plastic sack in his hand. Hoseok couldn't move, couldn't speak, he could only stare at the beautiful man who was currently asking if he was alright. The man introduced himself as Yoongi and Hoseok let himself be carried on Yoongi's back all the way to his apartment.
He opened his eyes.
It was a dream.
A dream of the night he met one of the pieces to his puzzle, but also a nightmare of the night his worst fear tore its way into his life for the second time since he was born.
Hoseok sat up in his bed and looked around the room he was in. He was on the colony. Alone. He couldn't be alone. He shook his head, ignoring how his nose stung with oncoming tears, and ran a hand through his hair. His heart was still beating frantically and his throat was starting to close up. A sudden ringing of an incoming call and the built-in monitor on the opposite wall lighting up made him jump. Incoming call from...Min Yoongi-C206. He finally let the tears fall down his cheeks as he leaped out of his bed and confirmed the call by slamming his hand on the accept button. Yoongi's face popped up on the screen and the younger of the two broke down in to sobs.
Yoongi's happy expression quickly dropped into a worried frown, line appearing across his forehead. "Hey, hey, Hobi, what's the matter? Why are you crying? Calm down, Sunshine, breathe." His voice was calm and soothing and it just made Hoseok wail with a pain that could only be felt in his heart. He continued to cry and the older male continued to try and calm him down, to no avail. "Y-Yoongi, I miss you! I miss Jiminie! I want to go home! Take me home!" Hobi raises a hand to his chest, clutching his shirt over the spot where his heart was. Yoongi felt his heart break at the sight. His lover's face shiny with tears and snot, the wails sounding through the speakers, his lips shaped like love now turned downwards in a pained frown. "I know. I know, Hobi. It'll be okay. Just calm down. Breathe," He says softly.
Hoseok sucked in a trembling breath. He closed his eyes and let it out. He rubbed the wetness from his face with his sleeve and then looked at Yoongi with puffy, red eyes and a smile on his face. "I love you. You always know how to make me feel better." He didn't really feel better. He wanted nothing more than to cry and scream and throw things, punch someone, something. He longed to be in Yoongi's arms, to hear his heartbeat, to feel his warmth. These thoughts made him sad and, though his smile was sparkling, it didn't reach his eyes. He knew Yoongi could see it, but he changed the subject quickly. "I just talked to Jimin. He misses you." Yoongi's voice sounds a bit sad and Hoseok hates that tone he uses. "I miss him too. I miss you both so much. I'm so alone here." He is surprised at how soft his own voice is. The screen blinks with an angry red light and he bites his lip to keep it from trembling. He doesn't need to look to see that they only have a minute left to talk. 60 seconds. "I'll call him."
Yoongi nods and smiles a small smile at him, saying, "Hoseok, I love you. We'll see each other soon, okay? I promise." Hoseok smiles his brightest smile at the man and ignores the way his stomach sinks. 40 seconds. "Okay. I love you too, Yoongi," He replies with a bit of the cheer in his voice that it normally had. 20 seconds. "Hey, Hobi?" Yoongi asks softly and stares at his lover through the screen. "Yes?" Hoseok answers, feeling uneasy by the look in his eyes. 5 seconds. "Get Jimin to eat." That's the last thing Hoseok hears as the screen goes black. He stares at his reflection, hating how sad he looked and how the silence filled the room. He felt so alone. He couldn't be alone. He jumped when the sound of a knock on the door to his small dorm echoed throughout the room. "Who is it?" He called out, hoping it was who he suspected it was. The deep voice of the man on the other side of the door came through and soothed Hoseok's nerves. "It's Jungkook. Can I come in?"
Hoseok gets up from his spot on the floor and makes his way over to the door, slipping his fingers into the groove that allowed the door to open. He slid it to the side slowly and looked at the younger boy on the other side of the threshold. His big, doe eyes stared into Hoseok's soul and he hated it. He hated that the look in Jungkook's sparkling, worried eyes made a feeling stir deep in his gut, a feeling that was familiar to him. He ignored it, pushed it down in the darkest pit of his stomach, trying to smother the flickering flame inside of him. He tells himself it's because he's lonely, that this flame wasn't real, that he loved Yoongi and Jimin and only them. It's because he's lonely. Hoseok stepped aside to let Jungkook inside and shut the door behind him, saying, "I'm alright, Jungkookie. You don't need to worry." He smiles at the younger and hates that he smiles that pretty smile that makes his nose scrunch up. "If you say so, hyung. Do you wanna play cards?" Jungkook's voice is hopeful and caring and he pulls a deck of cards in their box out from his back pocket.
Hoseok couldn't help but nod and lead the boy to the spot on the floor he was sitting on previously. This was their routine. He cried, sometimes Jungkook would hold him after asking and then getting confirmation from Hoseok, his muscular arms wrapped around Hoseok tight, but not so tightly that his panic attack worsened. After he had calmed down, if he had cried all his energy out, he would fall asleep in Jungkook's grasp and Jungkook would hold him until he woke up. They always played cards, though, since that was really the only thing to do and because it helped Hoseok get his mind off the loneliness that strangled him every second he was left to his own thoughts. Hobi liked to play cards with Jungkook and he found that he told himself more and more often that he only played cards with the younger so that he wasn't left to his thoughts. It was not because he liked Jungkook's company more than he should.
They played cards in silence. They only spoke when necessary, but the small smiles and glances they shared were enough communication. He ended up winning the game and let out a smug laugh. "I told you I'd win, Kookie, you're no match for me," He says and grins, his lips forming a stretched heart. He remembered that he needed to call Jimin and his smile faded a bit. "I need to call my boyfriend before it gets late." He looks at Jungkook, knowing that he'll take the hint. He watches as the boy takes the cards, puts them in the beat up box and nods, saying as he stands, "Okay. If you need anything, just call for me. I'll be here." Hoseok hated that. He knew Jungkook would be there for him and he hated that the boy would come running the second he called. "Thanks, Jungkook." He turns to the monitor on the wall and starts scrolling through his contacts, hearing the almost silent door slide closed. He pressed the call button and couldn't help but feel nervous as it rang.
After a few seconds of biting his lips and worrying that his younger boyfriend wouldn't answer, his worries were soothed by Jimin's face appearing on the screen. His face lit up in a bright grin as he exclaimed, "Jiminie!" Jimin smiles back and lets out a giggle that is more beautiful than the greatest symphony. "Seokie! I love you so much! I miss you." His voice is so welcoming and so full of warmth that Hobi almost bursts into tears again. "I miss you too," He says, smiling softly. "You look handsome today," He adds. He always made sure to tell Jimin how amazingly attractive and angelic he was. He saw a blush rise to Jimin's cheeks and the cute boy smiled shyly. "Thank you, Hobi, but I haven't really been trying." He says with a chuckle and Hoseok laughs softly, grinning, then says, "I know, but you don't have to try to look like an angel." Jimin giggles again and Hobi feels all his worries and his problems melt away. "Ah, Jiminie, Yoongi asked me to tell you something." He saw Jimin's face fall a little and the blush disappeared form his cheeks. "Did he tell you to make me eat?" He asks softly, looking a bit sad, and Hoseok nods.
Jimin presses his lips together and a line appears between his brows, showing his frustration. "I'm not hungry." Hoseok's smile dissolves, speaking through a tense jaw, "Jimin, you have to. We're not going to talk about anything else until I see you eat something." Jimin stares at him through the camera, looking like an angel with his feathers ruffled, and sighs after a little while. "Fine. I'll be right back." Hoseok waits and watches as Jimin leaves the frame of the camera, assuming he went to the kitchen. He looks at Holly and smiles, then sees Mickey's little tail peeking out from underneath the couch. When the younger of the two came back, he sat on the couch with a bowl of chopped up strawberries in his small hands. "Strawberries are good," Hoseok comments, not really knowing what to say. Jimin nods and pops one into his mouth. Hobi sighs softly, sensing the boy's irritation and smiles at the camera, saying, "I'm glad you're eating, Jiminie. I want you to take care of yourself. I need you. Yoongi needs you too." The screen flashed red. 60 seconds remaining.
Hoseok bit his lip and kept the act together. Stay happy. Smile for him. "I love you. I'll text you later." Jimin looked like he was about to cry, but he just stared at his boyfriend. "I love you too. Be careful, Seokie." Hoseok grins, his eyes disappearing into endearing little crescent moons and his lips stretched into the most beautiful heart shape. "I will. Give Holly and Mickey kisses for me!" He exclaims this and the screen shuts off just as he finishes his sentence. He suddenly realized how suffocating the silence was. He couldn't be alone.
Not again.
