Chapter 1: ONE
Chapter Text
“Tye?” the man asks as he takes a closer look at the audition resume in front of him, “Tye?” he asks again. The boy standing in front of him bites his lips in anticipation. “You don’t look like a Tye. What’s your real name kid?”
“Uh-” is the response the man gets, and yes, he’s getting impatient, “Anytime now,” he mumbles under his breath only to receive a nudge in the rib by his fellow bandmate sitting next to him.
“I’m- My name’s Jungkook sir,” the boy lets out.
“How the fuck did you go from Jungkook to Tye-” the man starts but he’s cut off.
“Yeah okay. I think we’ve heard enough from you today Yoongi,” the man beside him speaks out as he stands up. “Sorry Jungkook. He’s a bit- no, he is a dick.”
“I’m just asking him Joon-”
“Shut up,” Namjoon interrupts again and Yoongi slumps back into his seat feeling defeated. Namjoon clears his throat before asking the young boy in front of them, “So you sing? And you also mention here... that you play the guitar?” Jungkook nods shyly, “Well- I try sometimes. I’m not really good at it.”
Namjoon gives the latter an encouraging smile, “Don’t worry. Yoongi here can teach you-” and there’s a slight whimper of protest, “However, we do have a guitarist of our own. His name’s Jin. So you don’t have to worry.”
Jungkook feels himself loosen up after hearing those words. At least he’s got less things to worry about.
“Anyways, why don’t you give it a go. Sing- I mean,” Namjoon says as he sits back down again.
Yoongi watches the boy not noticing himself bringing up a pen up to his lips and biting it. He almost drops the pen however- he almost feels his jaw drop as the boy starts to sing, because truly, truly someone wouldn’t sound that good. He felt shivers running down his whole fucking body, like the kid had just unlocked something in him.
He plays it off cooly though when asked about how well he did by his friend.
-
“How did the auditions go?” Jin asks that night as the three men sat around the kitchen isle of their shared apartment. “It went pretty well actually,” Namjoon says as he’s looking through the list of people that had auditioned that morning. Yoongi grumbles, taking a sip of his beer.
“It went better than when we first tried to find a guitarist,” Namjoon comments. Yoongi snickers, “That was such a shitty time.”
Jin smiles at this and shrugs, “At least you found me right?” and Yoongi dismisses it, waving his hand round with the bottle of beer still in his hand.
Namjoon’s still looking through the list of names, “Tye was something else wasn’t he, huh Yoongi?” he asks without looking up from the list and Yoongi almost chokes on air, “What?” he splutters. “I mean, his voice was something else wasn’t it?” Namjoon asks again, this time looking up.
“Uh- I don’t remember,” Yoongi lies and Namjoon raises an eyebrow.
“Who’s Tye? Are you gonna pick him to be our lead singer?” Jin asks munching away.
“Tye isn’t his real-”
“He was one of the last people to audition, and he was really good. He’s pretty shy, but maybe if we-”
Yoongi stops him, “Hold on. You’re not actually thinking of asking him to join are you?” he asks in disbelief. Namjoon tilts his head slightly in confusion, “There’s no harm. I mean- he’s a good singer-”
“Yeah, and he’s a fucking kid .”
Namjoon frowns at this, “And what about it?”
Jin butts in, “Not to mention, you were a kid when you joined a band,” pointing at Yoongi.
“This is different Jin. I wasn’t in school. I was a dropout. I had nothing else going for me. Joining a band was my last fucking resort! We- I thought we were going to take this whole rock band thing to the next level? Create albums, have sold out shows- Do you think this kid’s going to risk his future for a band-” Yoongi stops rambling and takes in a deep breath before letting it out slowly.
“I’m just saying… he’s only a kid. He doesn’t need to waste his time with a band who’ll probably fail in the end.”
Namjoon lets out a whistle, “Wooooow.”
Yoongi sighs, “I- I’m sorry- that-”
Namjoon, “It’s cool. Reality hurts.”
Maybe Yoongi should’ve kept his mouth shut.
-
It’s been weeks since the audition and Jungkook hasn’t heard anything back from the guys. He thinks, maybe, he should just give up and just focus on his studies for the time being.
They probably found someone better suited anyways. Who’d want a shy kid like him in a fucking rock band right?
He feels a pair of arms wrap around his waist before he turns around. “Hi baby,” Maria, Jungkook’s girlfriend greets his with a peck on the cheek. Jungkook smiles and pats her head, “Hey. How was class?” He asks.
He shuts his locker and they walk down the hall towards the cafeteria. “It was okay. What about yours?” she asks. Jungkook hums as they enter the cafeteria, making their way to where his two best friends were sitting with their lunch. “Could’ve been better. I’ve already learnt the stuff beforehand so it almost made me fall asleep.”
Maria chuckles.
They sit down as Jimin and Taehyung were in a middle of a banter.
“I’m telling you! You have to go to the other side in order to-” Jimin gets cut off by Taehyung, “I’m not listening to what you have to say because remember what happened the last time I listened to you?”
Jimin rolls his eyes, “That was partly your fault.”
“Oh bullshit.”
Jungkook clears his throat, “Good to know you’re still on good terms.”
“Hey,” Jimin greets with a sweet smile and Taehyung just nods in acknowledgement before doing the same to Maria who gives him a shy smile in return.
“Oh- shit. Have you still not gotten a callback yet?” Jimin asks. Jungkook shakes his head, pouting a little and Maria gives his shoulder a squeeze, “Don’t think of it too much. You can always audition for another band.”
Jungkook lets out a heavy sigh, “Yeah, I know that but- this is Red Pearl we’re talking about. I thought, given the opportunity… nevermind. You’re right. I can always audition for another band,” he gives up in the end and Maria pats his back slowly.
“It’s their loss for not picking you,” Taehyung mutters and Jungkook smiles at that.
-
It’s almost midnight and Jungkook’s getting ready for bed when he gets a call.
“Is this uh- Tye?”
Jungkook chokes and he almost drops his phone, “U- Uh. Jungkook’s fine.”
The boy hears a few coughs on the line, “It’s Yoongi. Namjoon told me to um, inform you that our offer for you to join us is open. That’s all.”
Jungkook freezes, the words slowly processing in his brain.
“Hello?”
“Oh! Yeah. I- I’m. God I don’t know what to say really-”
“Band practices are usually on Saturday’s at Namjoon’s place- which was the place you auditioned at by the way- but yeah. Starts at 11 in the morning- not really my ideal timing but the other two are early birds. Anyways, the offer’s open. If you don’t come, then we’re just gonna have to find someone new. That’s all. See you.”
Before Jungkook could even say anything, Yoongi ends the call. He’s in shock- he didn’t see this coming.
He feels his heart starting to beat really fast and he thinks he can’t wait to show up to practice.
He’s finally doing this.
He’s going to be free.

Chapter Text
“He’s not going to show up,” Yoongi mumbles and Namjoon taps his foot on the floor, “You just don’t want him to show up.” The older of the two rolls his eyes, “You’re not wrong.”
“Hoseok called by the way,” Namjoon says. Yoongi groans, “What the fuck does that asshole want now?” The latter shrugs, “He mentioned something about Holly and how he’s taking him?”
Yoongi sits up abruptly at this, “Fuck him. It’s one thing to take my fucking car, but now he wants Holly too?” he shouts, “Tell him to go shove his own fist up his fucking ass.”
“Lovely morning you two,” Jin greets as he enters the garage. “Not so fucking lovely now that I know Hoseok has it out for me,” Yoongi says in spite. Jin snorts at this and Namjoon sighs. “I mean- Holly is everything to me you know? If anyone took Holly away from me… I don’t even know what the fuck I’ll do-”
“Hi,” a voice appears softly and the three men turn around.
“I hope I’m not interrupting anything?” Jungkook asks.
Namjoon walks over to the boy and pats his shoulder, “Nah. Yoongi’s just being… Yoongi.”
Yoongi scowls, “Fuck you.”
“Hey!” Jin warns and Yoongi shuts his mouth.
“Jungkook, this is Jin. Our guitarist. Jin, this is our new lead singer, Jungkook- or Tye-”
Jungkook cuts Namjoon off by saying, “Jungkook’s fine.”
Jin beams at the younger, “Hey. I heard you’re a really great singer. Even Yoongi said you were good and Yoongi never praises anything so easily.”
Yoongi hisses, “Shut the fuck up you trait-”
“Anyways. I’ll be in your care,” Jin carries on, holding his hand out, ignoring Yoongi’s death stare and Jungkook takes the latter’s hand in his before saying, “I’ll be in your care too.”
-
The practice ends late in the evening as Jin had to go somewhere. Namjoon offers Yoongi and Jungkook dinner and Jungkook’s hesitant at first, but Namjoon insists he stay over for dinner.
So he does.
Namjoon’s currently cooking in the kitchen while he and Yoongi are still chilling out in the garage.
“Jin wasn’t lying,” Yoongi speaks up all of a sudden and Jungkook looks at him in confusion. “Sorry?” he asks.
Yoongi takes a moment before sitting up on the couch properly, facing Jungkook who was sitting on the floor in front of him, “You have a really beautiful voice.”
Jungkook feels his face flush.
“Beautiful?” he asks, mainly to himself, but Yoongi nods, “It’s different. Different for a rock band, but beautiful nonetheless.”
Jungkook really has nothing to say.
“I didn’t want you joining the band if I’m going to be honest. The only reason why you’re here in the first place is because Namjoon’s a manipulative bastard who gets away with things- and really, I can’t say no to Jin,” Yoongi says.
The younger boy scratches the back of his neck as he slowly looks away from the elders gaze, “Why did you not want me joining?”
Yoongi gives it a second thought, “You’re young. Judging by the looks of you… you go to a pretty decent school. You’ve got a lot to live for and Red Pearl has a history. A shitty history. You’re just looking for something to fill the void inside you when really, you never will.”
Jungkook frowns.
“I know about the bands mishaps, but that doesn’t mean the band won’t climb back up.”
Yoongi raises an eyebrow at this, “Not that simple kid.”
“I’m not a kid. I’m 18.”
“Still. This is reality. Red Pearl died once. Why do you think it won’t happen again? Why waste your future for this shit?”
Jungkook’s frown deepens even more at this, “What makes you think I have a future in the first place?”
“Like I said. You’re in school. You’re gonna graduate. You’ve got a lot going for you. You’re still young.”
The younger boy’s getting irritated.
However, the conversation drops as soon as they hear Namjoon enter with their dinner.
“I made some pasta if you don’t mind,” he says as he hands them their plates and Jungkook smiles, “Thank you Namjoon.”
“Thanks,” Yoongi mutters under his breath, taking one last look at Jungkook before diving into the feast before him.
-
“I can’t come over today,” Jungkook tells Maria on a Monday morning. The girl hums, “Oh,” is all she says. “I’m hanging out with Jimin and Taehyung tonight,” he lies.
Why is he lying?
“Oh,” she says again.
“But i’ll make it up to you. I promise,” he says slowly, running his hand through her hair lightly and she leans into it, “You always do,” she gives a small smile.
The school bell rings in time for class and they part ways.
Jungkook doesn’t really have to be anywhere tonight. So why did he lie? He was just thinking of staying home and probably get a few studying sessions in there. Was the lie necessary? When did he start lying to Maria in the first place.
“You seem a little preoccupied with your thoughts there bud,” Jimin appears and puts an arm around the boy’s shoulders as they walk to class.
“Yeah- hey. I didn’t see you in class this morning,” Jungkook blinks at him in confusion and Jimin gives him a cheeky smile, “Yeah I had to do something.”
“Do what?”
“More like do who. ”
Taehyung appears on the other side of Jungkook and Jimin rolls his eyes, but the grin is still plastered on his face.
“Oh shut up. When are you going to tell us about your new pal huh?” Jimin snickers and Jungkook pulls back from him in surprise and his gaze rests on Taehyung, “ New pal ? I think I’m lost. You guys have been getting around lately and you don’t tell me about it?” he asks.
This time it’s Taehyung’s turn to roll his eyes, “I don’t have a new pal .”
“Okay- but the hickey on your neck says something else,” Jimin mutters under his breath and Taehyung reaches for his neck and covers it. Jungkook watches as his face flushes a deep red and he laughs, “Oh my god.”
“Shut up,” Taehyung hisses.
“You know we should hurry the fuck up or else we’ll be really late,” Jimin says.
Jungkook hums in agreement.
“We’re already late. It doesn’t hurt to be a bit more late,” and Taehyung gets a smack on the back of his head from Jimin at that.
Taehyung winces in pain.
-
“I lied to Maria. I told her I’d be hanging out with you guys tonight,” Jungkook says out of the blue as the three of them were walking to the gates of the school. They had just finished school and was about to go home.
Taehyung raises an eyebrow at this, “And where will you actually be?” he asks curiously and Jungkook shrugs, “I was just gonna go home. I should just tell her I needed the space shouldn’t I?”
Jimin holds his arms up in surprise, “Woah there bunny boy. Since when did you need space from Maria ?” he asks. Jungkook shrugs, “I don’t know… I just- she- I love her you know-”
“Okay wait- you love her??” Taehyung stops him and Jungkook groans, “I- I don’t know man. I do, but… I don’t know. I’ve been with her my whole fucking life. You know? Of course I love her, but she was just messaging me on and on the whole weekend for some fucking reason. She was nagging me about how I don’t spend time with her these days but when we’re in school she doesn’t say anything about it? So I don’t know.”
Jimin curls his mouth, “Did you ask her if there’s something going on?”
Taehyung stays silent, listening to the whole conversation.
“No…” Jungkook mumbles, “But anyways- because I told her I was gonna be with you guys… do you wanna come over to my place?” he asks the two boys.
Jimin pouts, “I’m sorry Jungkook. My mum’s going on a business trip this month and I promised her that I’d cook for her tonight.” Jungkook nods sadly and turns to Taehyung.
Taehyung takes a moment before he sighs, “I- I guess I can go over- but only for a while though. I’ve got somewhere to be tonight.”
Jimin wiggles his eyebrows, “With the new boy toy?”
Taehyung shoves Jimin away, “Why do you always assume it’s a guy I’m hooking up with?”
“I don’t know? You never talk about girls to me.”
“Just because I don’t talk about girls, it doesn’t mean I’m gay,” Taehyung states.
“You could be bisexual,” Jimin teases.
-
“Taehyung!” Jungkook’s mum greets in surprise, “I haven’t seen you in a while!”
Taehyung bows slightly and follows Jungkook inside.
“I’ve just been real busy lately Mrs. Jeon,” Taehyung speaks and the woman gives him a tight squeeze on the arm, “It’s been months. I hope you and your father are doing well.”
“Yeah. It’s going alright I guess,” he says politely.
“Mum I don’t think he wants to talk to you anymore,” Jungkook jokes.
Taehyung scoffs, “That’s not true.”
“It’s alright Taehyung. You boys go on up. Will you be staying for dinner Taehyung?” she asks and Taehyung shakes his head, “Not tonight Mrs. Jeon,” he says apologetically.
They walk up to Jungkook’s room after talking to Jungkook’s mum and Jungkook shuts the door behind him.
“So… tell me about the band,” Taehyung says suddenly, plopping onto the bed and Jungkook grabs his chair and sits on it, “Well, what do you wanna know about it?” he asks in return and Taehyung shrugs lazily, “How are the other guys? Red Pearl was it? Didn’t most of the band members leave or something?”
“Yoongi’s the only original member of the band left. They’re really nice.”
Taehyung hums, “Didn’t they get into a lot of shit back then?”
Jungkook looks at him oddly, “I guess so... “
“Your mum doesn’t have a problem with that?” Taehyung asks, “ Maria doesn’t have a problem with that?” and he looks at Jungkook this time, brushing his fringe away.
It takes a while for Jungkook to respond, “It’s a rock band. A lot of rock bands get into a lot of shit sometimes.”
“Yeah and not every rock band is Red Pearl. Not every rock band gets into the shit Red Pearl does,” Taehyung points at the younger and Jungkook frowns, “Sounds to me like you don’t want me to be part of the band.”
“I don’t want you getting yourself into something you can’t come back from,” Taehyung sighs.
“You make it sound like I can’t handle myself,” Jungkook huffs in annoyance.
“I’m just looking out for you. That’s all. I don’t want you getting hurt- getting into all sorts of trouble okay?” the latter sits up straighter when he says this. Jungkook shakes his head in disbelief, “You know, this is why I don’t hang out with you anymore. You’re always so controlling. You always think like you know things more than I do. I’m not a fucking child Taehyung. I’m not a fool.”
Jungkook stands up and walks towards the door, “You’ve got somewhere to be don’t you?”
“But I just got here-”
“Yeah, well I want you to fucking leave me alone right now.”
Taehyung slowly gets up from the bed and walks closer to him. He reaches out to touch the boy’s arm and pull him into a hug but Jungkook takes a step back.
The older boy sighs and takes his stuff before showing himself out of the door, and Jungkook doesn’t say a word to him as he walks out.
He slams his door shut and as if on cue, he gets a call.
“What?” he answers without looking at the caller ID.
“ Oh- you picked up, ” the voice on the line says in genuine surprise and Jungkook doubles over before clearing his throat, “Hi,” he says.
“You sound kind of pissed for a second there. I thought I interrupted something ,” Yoongi says and Jungkook shakes his head as thought Yoongi can see him.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to sound rude. Why are you calling anyways?”
“ I was bored. Needed someone to talk to and you were kind of my last resort.”
“That doesn’t sound like a compliment,” Jungkook snorts and he hears a chuckle, “ I thought about calling you didn’t I? I think that’s more than a compliment coming from me kid. Anyways, besides the fact that I’m bored, I was wondering if you’d like to hang out and help me write some new songs tomorrow- Namjoon thought it would be great if we could spend time and get to know each other since we’re going to be bandmates… and all…”
Jungkook raises an eyebrow, “I actually promised my girlfriend I’d make up for bailing out on her today…”
“ Girlfriend? Oh well then it’s fine- we can just do it some other time then-”
“Wait!” Jungkook shouts and he sighs, “We can do tomorrow.”
“ Are you… sure?”
“Yeah,” he says, “I’m sure.”
“ Okay cool. I’ll send you my address. See you tomorrow kid.”
“Alright. And please, stop calling me kid,” Jungkook says before he hears laughter and the call end.

Chapter 3: THREE
Summary:
“I’m his boyfriend.”
“Ex.”
Chapter Text
“You sure your girlfriend really doesn’t mind you blowing her off again?” Yoongi asks as he takes a drag off his cigarette. He waits for Jungkook to take his shoes off before he shuts his apartment door and he forgets to lock it, like he does every single time. Doesn’t bother him though. He tells Jungkook to sit down wherever and just make himself feel at home and he figures the younger’s a bit nervous- or maybe too nervous he might say because the kid and him had just met only a few days ago.
Jungkook hesitantly takes a seat on Yoongi’s dirty looking couch, but Yoongi thinks that maybe his couch being dirty isn’t the least of his worries.
“You okay?” he decides to question the young boy and maybe he’s being a bit too forward because he notices the way Jungkook flinches at the question. “I’m good,” Jungkook lies but Yoongi can tell he’s just pretending to be okay.
“You want something to drink?” he asks the latter and Jungkook mutters, “Water’s fine.”
“Okay,” Yoongi doesn’t ask him anymore and he finds it odd. He didn’t sound this nervous on the phone- he should’ve just told him he didn’t want to come over instead of putting himself through all the trouble, but Yoongi reckons, they’re going to be bandmates from now on. It’s better now than never. Or maybe he was really nervous on the phone, it’s just that Yoongi couldn’t see .
He comes back to the living room, Jungkook typing away on his phone as he places the glass of water on the coffee table. The older man sits on a seperate couch, a much smaller one that’s placed in the corner of the room, just as to not make the younger feel any more nervous than he should be.
“She’s fine by the way,” Jungkook starts off with a sudden statement and Yoongi looks at him in confusion. Context, perhaps?
Jungkook realises his mistake and chuckles nervously, “I meant my girlfriend… I told her I was busy today and she didn’t really say anything, but I took it as an okay.”
Yoongi lets out an ‘ah’ and nods, “How long have you guys been together? You don’t have to answer if it’s a bit weird. Just tryna make conversation,” he asks and Jungkook purses his lips together, “Well, we’ve kind of been together our whole life really, but I guess you could say we started dating officially after we entered high school.”
The older man raises his eyebrows in surprise, “Shit man. That’s a long fucking time.”
Jungkook laughs lightly at this, slightly feeling a bit more relaxed.
“And you?” Jungkook asks, “Are you seeing anyone?”
Yoongi debates on whether or not he should joke about it or answer the kid seriously.
“Nah. I’ve been single for quite some time now. Not really looking for a relationship anyways,” Yoongi shrugs and takes another drag off his cigarette. He taps his foot on the ground a few times before standing up abruptly, making the latter startle.
“You ready to write some songs?” he asks and Jungkook smiles.
Yoongi guides him to the studio, which used to be his bedroom but he figures, he might as well just make the living room a place to sleep because he’s the only one staying there.
-
It’s been a few hours and it’s getting late. Jungkook’s just about to leave but as soon as he grabs his bag and puts on his shoes, the front door opens and a man stands there with a backpack in his hand. The man in the doorway freezes.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Jungkook hears Yoongi approach the front door and the man’s gaze moves swiftly from his to Yoongi’s and he gives the man a bright smile.
“You don’t mind if I stay here tonight do you? Or maybe even a few nights?” despite the man’s look, his tone says another and Jungkook gets up slowly from tying his shoes. The man in front of him is a little shorter, probably a bit taller than Yoongi.
Yoongi just groans in response but doesn’t oppose.
“And who’s this young fellow,” the man asks, wiggling his eyebrows at Jungkook. Yoongi gives him a look of pure disgust but he gets laughter in response. “This is Jungkook. The new lead singer me and Namjoon- well Namjoon offered a place in our band.”
The man’s eyes grow wide at that.
“I saw your audition tape- Namjoon showed it to me, if you don’t mind. But dude, your voice is amazing. I think you almost had me fall down to my knees-” he gets cut off by Yoongi, “Jesus christ.”
Jungkook finds their exchanges a bit amusing.
“This is Hoseok,” Yoongi nods towards the man and Hoseok gives Jungkook a smile, probably one too bright for his liking, “I’m his boyfriend.”
“ Ex. ”
Jungkook’s eyes widen slightly at this but he doesn’t say a word. He only nods politely.
“I think you scared him a bit too much Hoseok. Stop being happy all the time,” Yoongi pulls the said man into the apartment, “Have a good night Jungkook. Get home safe and maybe text me to let me know when you’ve arrived home.”
Jungkook gives him a thumbs up and before he knows it, the door is slammed shut in his face, not rudely though, and then he hears it being locked. He frowns and walks away.
Notes:
a much shorter chapter than the last one but hope u enjoyed it nonetheless. posted this because i think i wont have time for the remainder of this week to update a chapter because COLLEGE is a bitch.
i hope you looooooved the dynamic between yoongi and hoseok as much as i do!
+ lets hope jungkook gets a bit LESS nervous now that he's spent time with yoongi :)
+ we'll see more jin soon too and namjoon too (BASICALLy the WHolE band SJSKS)im trying to really focus on their lifestyles, especially jungkook's and yoongi's and also the process of becoming a really well known band, in fact legendary, and i would also like to try and write about the downfall of a successful band, because the thought of putting so much effort into your work in a long period of time and suddenly being at your peak only to have your efforts crumbling down in a matter of mere seconds just hits too close to home for me.
criticism is much appreciated!
until the next chapter <3
Chapter 4: FOUR
Summary:
“Well you’re not the damn bassist are you?”
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
It’s been a few weeks since Jungkook went over to Yoongi’s place and now they’re currently sitting in Namjoon’s basement, or what he likes to call ‘his studio’. It’s an actual recording studio but it’s pretty small, but Jungkook guesses it’s better than nothing at all.
They’re recording a song, Jungkook still can’t wrap his head around the idea that he’s in an actual band. A long time running band, famous for its change of members- and well, for other things. They’re about to record a fucking album, and his eyes get even bigger as if it wasn’t already big enough.
He hears the others arguing about something but he just can’t focus right now. A little overwhelmed is quite the understatement to what he’s feeling at the moment.
“I’m just saying - It would sound so much better if you just added the extra bit in,” Seokjin presses and Namjoon shakes his head in disagreement, “Well you’re not the damn bassist are you?” he argues, “If I add that bit in, it would sound like a dying fucking cat!”
“It just adds a little more to it though because right now, I don’t hear anything special and it sounds like absolute crap,” Seokjin grumbles.
Yoongi sighs and Jungkook watches as the man just sits there and watches the two other men argue.
“Does this happen a lot?” Jungkook questions and Yoongi leans back, looking at the younger, “More or less. It doesn’t really last long though, well most of the time it doesn’t.”
Jungkook chuckles, “What exactly is the feel we’re going for here?”
Yoongi stretches and yawns, “Classic rock,” he says as if it was obvious, right... but it wasn’t.
At this moment, Jungkook gets a call and he sighs as he looks at the caller’s name. He does, however, pick up the phone, but he’s not too happy about it.
“ You’re a real fucking shit you know that?” Taehyung shouts into his ear and Jungkook winces. He frowns in confusion, “What the fuck Tae?” he mumbles under his breath in hopes the man sitting beside him doesn’t hear him- but Yoongi listens.
Taehyung’s voice is already louder than it needs to be that Yoongi can hear the whole conversation and he feels as though he’s eavesdropping, but is it really?
“ Maria’s been fucking crying. What have you been doing? She says you ignore her and avoid her, even in school,” Taehyung speaks and Jungkook blinks, even more confused but his heart stops when he hears his girlfriend weeping in the background. “Look Tae… I don’t know what she’s been telling you, but I haven’t been avoiding her. You know I’d never do that-”
“ No you know what? Maria deserves better than your fucking ass.”
“Taehyung what the fuck?” Jungkook’s getting pissed now and this is a sight Yoongi hasn’t seen, and he’s intrigued, to say the least, because Jungkook’s tone sounds different. He doesn’t know why, but it just sounds different.
“Taehyung what the fuck are you talking about? I talk to Maria. I text her saying I’m busy. At least I fucking tell her what I’ve been doing for the past few weeks,” Jungkook stresses, “I don’t know what she’s been telling you but I do talk to her, but she cuts me off.”
“ You’re such a dick, you know that? I don’t know what she sees in you.”
Jungkook doesn’t know what else to say to Taehyung so he just ends the call right there.
Who the fuck does Taehyung think he is?
The young boy doesn’t notice the elder sitting beside him and staring at him until he turns and almost jumps in his seat.
“Trouble in paradise?” Yoongi raises an eyebrow. He spins his seat round and then he pours himself some water into a glass. Jungkook sighs and shrugs, “I honestly don’t know what’s been going on with my girlfriend lately,” he says and Yoongi hums and he takes a sip of his water.
“And my friend- well he isn’t really a friend anymore I guess- he’s just,” Jungkook sighs in frustration, “Why can’t he just mind his own damn business?” he’s irritated. Why was he with Maria in the first place?
“She deserves better?” Jungkook says this to himself and less to Yoongi, “She deserves better, he says.” He lets out a scoff and Yoongi almost smiles at the younger’s attitude.
By this moment, Seokjin and Namjoon have both stopped arguing and they came to an agreement that they won’t add in the extra bit.
“You guys ready to record it?” Yoongi asks and Namjoon gives him a thumbs up whereas Seokjin just slouches and pouts.
-
“So far, we’ve recorded three songs,” Yoongi says and Seokjin nods, “That’s good isn’t it? Three songs in one day?”
“What about the other songs you did the other day?” he asks, gesturing towards both Yoongi and Jungkook. “We didn’t record the songs, but we did write some. Jungkook here did most of it though,” Yoongi smiles like a proud dad and Jungkook scratches the back of his neck awkwardly, “Yoongi helped a lot.”
“Let’s hear it,” Namjoon says suddenly as he throws himself onto the couch.
Jungkook opens his mouth to say something but then closes it.
Yoongi notices this and says, “Why don’t we listen to it some other time huh? Anyways don’t you have school tomorrow?” and Jungkook’s eyes widen as he glances at the clock on the wall, “Shit,” he mutters under his breath, “I’m gonna be late for dinner.”
“You still live with your parents?” Seokjin asks.
“Only for a few more months. Until I finish high school- then I’m out of there,” Jungkook jokes and Yoongi chuckles, “See you Jungkook.”
Jungkook gives him a little smile, “See you- see you guys,” he says before he leaves.
As soon as the basement door shuts, Seokjin and Namjoon both turn towards Yoongi and look at him as if there’s something that needs to be said. Yoongi scowls, “What?”
“To think that you didn’t want him to join in the beginning, now you’re both practically best mates!” Namjoon exclaims in awe and Yoongi rolls his eyes, “He’s-” he stops, trying to find the right word, “Cool.”
Seokjin squints, “Cool…” he says coolly and he gets pushed by Yoongi and he almost falls of the chair he’s sitting on.
“He’s not bad I guess. And he’s pretty creative when it comes to songwriting,” Yoongi shrugs indifferently. “At least you’re getting along well,” Namjoon states, “Still surprised you haven’t done anything yet to get him out of the band like you did the others.”
Yoongi sighs, “All the other guys were shit Namjoon. Jungkook- although he’s still young, he’s pretty okay, and he doesn’t really get on my nerves as much. He doesn’t have that narcissism and he’s humble unlike the trashy singers we had.”
Namjoon nods, “Yeah… I guess.”
“He’s pretty cute too. I wonder if he’s taken,” Seokjin jokes and Yoongi just brushes that statement away.

Chapter Text
“I’m home,” Yoongi calls out as he closes the door behind him. Hoseok appears from the living room, popping his head out, “There’s dinner in here. I ordered pizza,” he says and Yoongi hums in delight. He takes off his shoes and walks towards the living room, Hoseok already seated and comfortable. He takes a seat next to the other man.
“How was your day?” Hoseok asks, taking a brief glance at the latter. Yoongi shrugged, “It was pretty good. We’ve got some shit done at least,” he then takes a piece of the pizza on the coffee table and takes a bite. “What about you?” Yoongi asks back and Hoseok scrunches his nose.
“I had a date but he stood me up.”
“That’s rough buddy.”
Yoongi gets a slap on the shoulder.
“It’s sad though. I thought he was great and genuinely interested in me, but no calls, no texts,” Hoseok sighs. Yoongi waves his hand in a dismissive manner, “Don’t worry. You’re Hoseok. Everyone wants you.” The said man scoffs, “Not you though,” and Yoongi rolls his eyes.
Just then, Yoongi gets a text message- well, multiple texts messages.

“You look like an idiot.”
Yoongi jumps in surprise and looks at Hoseok, “What do you mean?” he asks and Hoseok raises an eyebrow and glances down at Yoongi’s phone, “Jungkook huh? You were smiling like a fool the whole time you were texting. Just had to tell you.”
Yoongi groans and hits the other with a pillow, “I was not smiling.”
“You fucking were,” Hoseok teases.
“Oh my god let’s just watch this stupid movie please,” Yoongi grumbles and Hoseok let’s out a laugh as he pats the latter’s back.
Yoongi tries not to think about it too much too, the fact that this boy he barely knows just got dumped and now Yoongi has to be there for him. He tries not to think about Jungkook in general, but as the movie goes on and on, he just couldn’t get his mind off the boy.
What the fuck?
-
It’s a Wednesday afternoon and Jungkook’s walking with Jimin to a coffee shop nearby their school. Their favourite hang out spot. As soon as they get in, they order what they want and sit down.
“You wanna talk about it?” Jimin asks bluntly and Jungkook freezes momentarily before shaking his head, “I thought we agreed to not even bring it up.” Jimin sighs at his best friend, “You can’t keep all that in Jungkook. Just let it out. You were in love with her. She was the best thing that ever happened to you. You can’t not be upset about it-”
“Of course I’m fucking upset,” Jungkook hisses, “What else do you want me to fucking say? She dumped me. It’s over. What else is there to talk about?” he glares at the older boy and Jimin bites his bottom lip slowly.
“It’s just… you know you can talk to me about it you know?” he assures.
Jungkook hesitates, I have Yoongi.
“I know…” he says instead, “I just don’t want to talk about it okay? Not now at least. Maybe some other time.”
Jimin nods his head in understanding, “Taehyung’s not on your side but I am okay? I’m always here for you.”
What the fuck do you mean ‘sides’?
“Yeah,” Jungkook mutters at the same time their drinks arrive at the table.
“Anyways, how is Red Pearl going?” Jimin changes the subject as he take a sip of his iced coffee and Jungkook gives a small smile, “It’s going pretty well actually. Namjoon, the bass player- has this like, huge ass studio in his house- god it was an experience,” he paused as he took a sip of his drink, “We actually had this idea of releasing a single but Yoongi, the drummer suggested we go all out.”
Jimin raises his eyebrows in interest.
“I mean- Red Pearl has been going on for years so Yoongi thought it’d be a great idea to come back with a bang,” Jungkook explains and Jimin hums, “Is Yoongi the first member of the band?” he asks.
Jungkook thinks for a moment before saying, “There were a lot of members, coming and going- most of them aren’t doing music anymore, but what I do know is that Yoongi’s brother was actually the founder of the band and I’m pretty sure Yoongi was only a kid when the band had formed.”
Jimin whistles, “You sure do know a lot about them.”
“I mean you would to if you were a huge fan.”
Jimin gives the younger boy a proud smile, “And now you’re one of them.”
And Jungkook’s heart aches because it just hit him. He is one of them. He is.
“I am,” he says softly and Jimin chuckles as he squeezes his shoulder.
-
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” Yoongi’s dad screamed at the boy’s older brother. Yoongi curled himself up in the corner of his brothers room as he watched the row unveil. “You think you can just drop out of college? After everything I’ve done for you? And for what- for this satanic music!?” His dad kept on screaming and screaming, and Yoongi felt the anger. He felt it too much that he almost thought his dad was getting mad at him and not his brother.
“It’s what I want to do dad. Can’t you at least be happy that I’ve found something that I’m genuinely interested in!?” Yoongi’s brother cried out, “I’ve done everything you asked me to- why can’t you just let me do my own thing this one time? We’re actually going somewhere with this-”
“It’s going to get you killed I tell you. All these stupid kids, these crazy fans, it’ll be you worst enemy. Satan worshippers I tell you.”
His brother groaned in frustration, “Oh for fucks sake- I can’t do this anymore,” and as the words came out of his mouth, he started packing, and before Yoongi knew what was happening, he was running after his brother.
“Don’t leave me here-” Yoongi cried, “Please come back inside. Don’t leave me!”
His brother sighed as he opened his car door. He bent down so he was looking at Yoongi eye to eye, “You do your own fucking thing yeah? Don’t listen to that asshole. One day, when you’re old enough, when you’re ready, come and stay with me. You just need to endure his shit for a while okay? Don’t let him get to you,” he spoke quietly and Yoongi sniffed, his eyes burned from all the crying he had done and he held onto his brother for dear life.
“Why can’t you take me with you?” he asked.
“I need to learn to live on my own before I can start taking care of you don’t I?”
Yoongi nodded, “I’ll miss you.”
His brother kissed him on the forehead lightly, but held on for long, “I’ll miss you too.”
Notes:
