Chapter 1: Day 1: Sharing

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Reigen was lying awake, staring at the ceiling of his apartment. It was a hot summer night and the air condition wasn't working quite right.
Serizawa's sleeping figure was curled up to his side, nearly lying on top of him since there wasn't much space on the narrow mattress. The extra body heat wasn't helping much for his comfort level and a look at his phone screen reminded him he had to get up for work in four hours.

A bigger bed was what he needed to buy in the future, he decided while kicking the remaining covers further away from his feet. Their shirts were lying crumpled on the floor, already discarded some time ago.
When his boyfriend started to snore softly in his sleep, nuzzling even closer to him, a smile spread around Reigen's lips. Well, yeah, he was uncomfortably sweaty and sticky but this was still nice. He could endure sharing his small bed a little longer.

Chapter 2: Day 2: Touch

Summary:

Chapter Text

The constant buzzing, the loud cheering and the amount of people trying to talk to him felt a little bit overwhelming for Serizawa. Even more so after his third beer.

But maybe that was just what it felt like going to an izakaya with your classmates? After passing a really difficult math test, they had decided to celebrate.

Some of them had brought their partners and he was glad he had Reigen with him, his presence grounded him in situations like this. He hadn't officially introduced him as his boyfriend yet, but he guessed some of his closer friends from school were already jumping into conclusions from the way he talked about him. To his relief, they seemed to be supportive of it.

Spacing out of the conversations he had long ago lost track on, he suddenly felt a warm hand on the small of his back. He glanced at Reigen, sitting next to him, talking to Tachibana-san across the table, with his usual loud voice and fake confidence, about a movie Serizawa had never seen. He was still drinking his first beer, but his cheeks were already slightly red. While he explained why “Return Of The Killer Chicken” was a great movie, he scooted closer to Serizawa, to start drawing slow and affectionate circles on his back.

He knew that Reigen had been nervous to meet his classmates, although he would have never admitted it. So Serizawa put one of his hands under the table and let it rest on his boyfriend's thigh, hoping the touch helped Reigen like his touch helped him. A secret conversation, between all of the noise.

Next time he had classes, Tachibana-san stopped at his desk.

“Your boyfriend is really a fun guy. I like him,” she said with an honest smile. “Be sure to bring him again next time.”
Serizawa gave a small nod in return, still feeling the ghost of Reigen's touch on his back.

Chapter 3: Day 3: Creature

Summary:

Chapter Text

The creature was looking at him with big, beady eyes.
It's antennas were constantly twitching, the six scrawny legs looking like they would start moving any second.
The dark chitinous exoskeleton glistened in the rays of sun that fell through the blinds.

Reigen instantly knew that this... 'thing' was not an average size. The hand that fumbled for his cell phone and dialed Serizawa's number was sweaty and determined.
Serizawa answered after two ringings that felt like an eternity.

“Reigen, did I forget something at the office? I’ve almost arrived at school-”

“Serizawa,” Reigen cut him off, “you need to come back. ASAP.”

“Are you okay? Did anything happen?”

The creature turned around and ran towards the ceiling in one quick move. Luckily, it stopped in the corner right above the door. Reigen's whole body shivered and a small squeak escaped him.

“Oh,” Serizawa said on the other end of the line “is there a bug in the office again?” His voice sounded amused. Reigen felt his cheeks flushing.

“Damn it, Serizawa, this time it's fucking huge, okay? This is no normal cockroach, it could swallow a child easily! If Tome-chan was here today, she would already got eaten by this monster! ”

He could hear how his boyfriend tried to suppress a laugh.
“Okay, okay, I'm sorry. But I have classes in a bit, can I come after -”

“NO! I mean it, this is the real deal, I bet it's planning how to murder me in a really cruel way... You need to come over here right NOW!”
The creature seemed to nuzzle closer into the corner, antennas exploring the cobwebs there.
“Don't you dare making yourself at home...” Reigen said through gritted teeth.

“Wow, you sound really stressed,” Serizawa recognized, his voice on a more serious note now. “Give me a few minutes, I'll come back. I left a little earlier today anyway. Wait for me and don't freak out.”

Reigen clutched the phone to his chest after Serizawa had hung up, starting a staring contest with the giant cockroach on the ceiling. He still had no idea how this monstrosity had gained access to the office.
When Serizawa finally arrived, Reigen immediately yelled at him: “Watch out, it's over the door!”

Serizawa froze in his movement and – wait, was he smirking at Reigen? That sassy bastard!
But his expression died when he looked up at the ceiling and saw the human sized cockroach sitting there.

Jumping to Reigen's side and out of the creature's reach, he acknowledged:
“Oh. That is a huge one."

“Told you so.”

“Actually this is the... spirit of a cockroach. Doesn't seem to be evil though. Maybe we accidently brought it here after one of our jobs?” Serizawa guessed.

“Could you please do the talking later and finally exorcise it?” Reigen could feel beads of sweat running down his face.

With one smooth movement of Serizawa's hand and a flash of purple light, the giant cockroach was gone.
“Luckily, that was a weak one. No need to worry.”

“I hate you,” Reigen answered with a pouting face.

Serizawa only smiled at him.

Chapter 4: Day 4: Fake/Real

Summary:

Chapter Text

“What are you doing?” Serizawa asked while he sat on the couch and watched Reigen bustling around, leaving a trail of chaos behind in every room.
Well, Serizawa only had two, but still...

Reigen stopped in his tracks, letting the sweater he had just lifted from the floor fall down again and scratched his head.
“I wanted to set an alarm for tomorrow morning but I can't find my cell phone...”

“Did you leave it at the office?”

“No, I still had it on the way here. Give me yours for a second, I'm gonna call it,” Reigen said. “Bet I just put it somewhere weird.”

Pointing over to his small kitchenette, Serizawa nodded. “It's over there, you know the code to unlock it.”

Reigen made a beeline for his boyfriend's phone lying next to the kettle they had used half an hour ago for making some cup ramen. The day had been exhausting, so they had both agreed on a quick dinner before going to bed.

When Reigen took the smartphone and unlocked it, he grimaced.
“What's the deal with this terrible background photo?” he asked, clearly a little embarrassed.

“Oh.” Serizawa knew immediately what he meant. He had changed his background just a few days ago. It was a picture of Reigen from when they went for some drinks last weekend and Reigen had passed out on his bed, still in his jeans and shirt. Serizawa thought he looked adorable with his flushed cheeks and that goofy smile on his face, so he had taken a photo. “I just like how you looked then. It’s cute,” he said.

Reigen made a strangeling sound as an answer and scrolled further on the phone. “I don't look – oh my god, and that's your contact photo for me?”

“This one's also cute,” Serizawa defended his choice.

“I am eating a Mobburger!” Reigen cried out loud, “And we both know I'm a messy eater!”

“I'd say passionate, but...” Serizawa stopped when he saw his boyfriend's unbelieving face. “Okay, look,” he tried to explain, “I really like those photos of you.”

“But I sent you some better photos... why won't you use those?”

Serizawa rubbed his neck, trying to find the right words.

“I like those, too...but I think you are even cuter in these photos I took of you when you didn’t notice -”

“That sounds hella creepy, Serizawa.”

“No, that came out wrong – I just meant, I like it better when you don't... pose.”

“Oh.”

“Those photos I use on my phone feel more like they show the real you, you know?”

“So the others are fake?”

“No, it's... come one, Reigen, we both know you have this perfect mask you put on for clients and most other people. I like the photos on my phone because that's the Reigen no one else but I am allowed to see.”

Although Reigen's mouth opened in a silent protest, Serizawa continued:
“I know you don't like other people seeing you this way, but those photos are just for me and nobody else.”

Reigen still stared at the phone, not saying a word. After a pause, he sighed and said:
“Okay, fine.” He then double tapped the screen and seconds later a vibrating sound could be heard from the bathroom.

“What the hell...” he murmured and went to get his phone, handing back Serizawa his on the way there.

“Got it! It was still in the pants I put in the laundry,” Reigen explained when he came back and sat down on the couch. Then his face froze. “Now could you please stop staring at those horrible photos? I'm sitting right here, you know?”

“Sorry.” Serizawa chuckled, putting his phone away and scooted closer to Reigen. “You wanna watch a movie or...”

“I had something else in mind for tonight,” Reigen said with a smirk, “but since you don't like it when I put on a show for you...”

“No, come on, that's not what I said!”

Ah, Serizawa knew he would get teased for a while now. But he still wasn’t going to change that phone background.

Chapter Text

There was nothing but darkness around her.

Tome couldn't even see her own body – wait, she couldn't even feel it. Something must have gone terribly wrong, she was sure it wasn't normal to not feel your own body anymore. Trying to move her hands, her brain gave the order but there was nothing that could receive it.
How did this happen? What was the last thing she could remember? Where has she been, what was she doing?

The only thought that seemed to make sense was that she died.
Yup, that was it.
She died at such a young age, didn’t even finish high school, no first kiss, no secret passage unlocked in that video game – but hey, at least she had met some aliens with Mob, the Telepathy Club and Reigen...

Reigen!
It all came back to her now! She had been with him before this happened... before she had died. And not only him, but Serizawa, too! Oh, she remembered!

They had been on a job with a super strange client and Reigen didn't want her to come with but she knew he would let her when she pleaded long enough for Serizawa to step in and promise he would protect her... well, the last part didn't work this time, it seemed. She felt sorry for those two, now that they had to explain to her parents she was dead. Oof, her mother would give them an earful.
Maybe Ekubo could still visit her. Oh, could she become a spirit, too? That way she would be able to stay at the office at least. Not a bad thought.
But it got interrupted by a voice calling her name.

“Tome-chan! Tome-chan!”

It was Reigen! Oh no, had he died, too?

“Tome-chan, come on, don't do this!”

Now she could feel something. Two warm hands on her cheeks. So she still had her body? Or was this a trick? She still couldn't answer, even when she tried. It was like her voice had been stolen.

A sudden flash of purple light shot through the darkness and blinded her. The very same second she could feel her body again, heavily dragging her down. Two arms caught her and sat down holding her. While she blinked, a dull, throbbing pain pierced through her head.

When she could open her eyes again, she looked into Reigen's and Serizawa's worried faces.

“Are you okay? The spirit took over your body,” Serizawa explained.

“Serizawa exorcised it. But it took us a few minutes to get it out of you,” Reigen said, still holding her, for which Tome was grateful, because she felt too tired to move.

“I think I'm okay, just...” Her voice sounded hoarse and was shaking a bit, so she stopped talking.

Reigen and Serizawa both let out a long, relieved sighs.

“That's why I said you couldn’t come with us – it's too dangerous!” Reigen said eventually.

“Well, that was my mistake, Reigen, but you were not much better, trying to jump in between,” Serizawa scolded him. “You both don't have powers, I told you to stand back.”

“Well, yeah, maybe, but - “, Reigen started, desperately fighting for words when they were usually his biggest weapon.
Tome chuckled, knowing that only Serizawa was able to put him in this state. That earned her a death glare from Reigen.

“Oh, if you feel well enough to laugh at me, I guess you don't need a piggyback ride home.”

“Ah, no, sorry,” she backpedaled quickly. “I don't think I can walk right now.”

“Come on, let's get you home,” Serizawa said and helped her getting on Reigen's back.

Totally worn out, Tome closed her eyes and just enjoyed the feeling of being carried like she was a little kid.

“Thanks for always protecting me,” she mumbled drowsily.

“Technically, this time we didn't,” Reigen said.

“That spirit was really malicious,” Serizawa added.

Tome smiled. She wasn't scared, because she knew they would always take care of her.
For the next job, she would definitely ask if she could come along again.

Chapter 6: Day 6: Free Day

Chapter Text

“So... how was the weekend with your mom?” Reigen asked, voice muffled because his face was nearly completely pressed against Serizawa's chest.

They laid in bed together, snuggling up as close as they could, legs intertwined under the covers. It was getting late and the street lamps from outside were barely illuminating the room through the window, bathing it in a soft, orange light.

“It was nice,” Serizawa replied.
Just an hour ago he had returned from his childhood home, spending the Saturday and most of the Sunday with his mom. “We talked a lot.” He started stroking Reigen's hair with one hand and his boyfriend nearly started purring under the caressing touch. They had missed each other so much.

“Mmm... what about?” Reigen asked after a few seconds, sounding sleepy.

Serizawa hesitated for a moment. He wasn't sure how Reigen would react.
“I told her... about us.”

He could feel Reigen's whole body stiffen.
“Oh.”

“Oh?”

Reigen propped his upper body on one elbow and watched Serizawa with a serious expression.
“You told her... about us, like us?” he asked while pointing back and forth between them with his free hand.

“Yeah, about us us,” Serizawa said with a chuckle.

“Oh. Okay... How did she react?”

“Good. She's happy for us.”

Reigen looked at him as if the short version of this story didn't satisfy him at all. So Serizawa added:
“She was a bit confused first but then she got really excited and even cried some happy tears. I think she is genuinely glad I found someone so special to me.” He gave Reigen a light peck on his forehead. “She even asked me to bring you around next weekend. She wants to get to know you. And cook for us.”

“Oh, wow,” Reigen said, looking down on his hands, avoiding his gaze and the invitation.

“We don't need to go,” Serizawa suggested after a few heartbeats, “my mom would understand. And I don't want to push you.”

“No, no, I mean, it's cool that she's so supportive... I just... I never met the parents of any of my former partners. None of them were out to them. This will be a first.”

“So you're just nervous?”

Reigen tilted his head and squinted his eyes as if he was thinking really hard about this.
“I guess?”

You admitting that is a first for sure,” Serizawa teased and Reigen almost instantly pouted. “Don't worry, it will be fun. And we'll get free food. My mom is a great cook!”

“Can I ask for a specific meal?”

“As long as you don't ask for ramen or takoyaki.”

“No fair.”

They both started laughing and Serizawa pulled Reigen into a tight hug.

“She's gonna love you.”

“Who doesn't?”

Serizawa couldn't argue with that.

Chapter 7: Day 7: Confessions

Chapter Text

“We could go on a date tomorrow,” Serizawa suggested.
He had just come out of the shower, searching for his pajamas – only a towel around his waist and his hair still dripping wet.

Reigen could only stare at him.
He sat on his boyfriend's bed and wasn't able to respond because his thoughts were running a thousand miles per second.
There was something he really wanted to tell Serizawa and he decided that today would be a good day to finally get it off his chest but then he got really distracted by this “after-shower-look”. So when he tried to reply, his mouth was only able to form some unintelligible sounds.

“Are you okay?” Serizawa looked up from his drawer with a worried expression and suddenly his face lit up. “Oh, there it is. You're wearing my pajama top.”

Looking down at the sweater he was wearing, Reigen just voiced a small “Oh”.

“Just keep it on, I have a spare one somewhere in this.”
When Serizawa turned around to scan through his clothes again, Reigen nearly bit his tongue. He needed to concentrate!

“Serizawa, can I... could you come over here for a second?”

Although he gave him a puzzled look, Serizawa nodded and said “Sure”, sitting down on the edge of the bed, close enough for Reigen to smell his shower gel.
He tried to ignore it, starting the speech he rehearsed in his head over and over again. They had been together for a few months now, this shouldn't be so difficult, right?

“I wanted to tell you something...”

“To be honest... I also wanted to tell you something,” Serizawa cut him off.

That caught Reigen off guard. Even more when Serizawa asked:
“Can I go first?”

He only nodded, curious what this was about.

Surprisingly, Serizawa's face turned a darker shade and he took Reigen's hands in his own when he started talking.
“We've been together for some months now and I... I just want you to know that I...” He looked Reigen straight in the eyes while he fumbled for the words.
“I wanted to tell you that... I love you, Arataka.”

Reigen stared at him, dumbfounded.

“I broke your Gundam,” he blurted out.

Serizawa's expression – full of tenderness seconds before – dropped.
“What?” he croaked.

“I – it just fell down when I checked it out the other day and... I don't know, one of those plastic wings just broke and I panicked and hid it and put the Gundam back on the shelf, hoping you wouldn't recognize until I get a replacement but I couldn't find it since I don't know the exact model and everything,” Reigen rambled and got off the bed to get the broken Gundam. “I only know it's Grimgerde but there are a lot models of him so I didn't know what to do and I... needed to tell you...”
He held out the shining red model and Serizawa took it cautiously, examining the broken wing.

“I think... I can fix that if you still got the part that fell off?” he said.

Reigen sat down on the bed again with a relieved sigh. “Really? I hid it in my bag, it's still there.”

Serizawa offered him a small smile. “You shouldn't have worried so much about it.”

“But you love those Gundams! I felt so bad I ruined your hard work!”

“It's okay.” Serizawa put the broken model down on the night table. Then he pulled his boyfriend into a loving embrace – much to Reigen's surprise.

“You're really not mad?”

“No, I still love you.”

“Oh.” Reigen suddenly remembered Serizawa's confession earlier and felt his cheeks flushing.
“I... I love you, too, Katsuya.”
