Crystal Eyes

Summary:

The rooms were bare of any life, the living room taken straight out of a minimalistic magazine, it’s only sign being that the remote moved every now and again. The Kitchen was massive, lighter wood toned cabinets and white granite. However massive, it’s warm lights did nothing to warm the soul of this sterile area. The bedrooms and bathrooms looked entirely untouched.

No, that wouldn’t do at all.

Notes:

Now this one has been sitting in my head a while too. The thought of reader giving something that Hawks bird brain appreciates so much.
I hope you enjoy!

warnings: none. Just pure fluff. Only edited by me, so I probably missed some things.

Work Text:

It wasn’t hard to redecorate Hawks sky high apartment. Ever since you moved in with him, you had made it your goal to make the empty shell of a place feel like home.

It had started out small; a few throw blankets and soft, non decorative, pillows thrown about haphazardly in various colors that threw off the color scheme. Knick-knacks decorated the coffee table, from things you thought were cute to the little additions Hawks had brought from business trips. You’d even bought flowers occasionally for your dining table.

Pictures now decorated the walls, a few silly selfies you had both decided were decent enough for human consumption., as well as a few of the more romantic ones that had made you blush with warm fuzzy feelings.

A silhouette of the two of you on the beach, just about to have your first kiss after dating for a few weeks. He’d set up the camera, you had been having an impromptu photoshoot when you had just gotten caught up in one another.

The fridge was not spared in your efforts, pictures of your parents and siblings decorated the fridge, the biggest being the two where you had convinced Keigo to join in, he was a part of the family- flock as you’d later tease him- whether he liked it or not.

The first had been a more serious photo with genuine polite smiles, Keigo on your right with your father on your left and your mother to his left. Your siblings, much younger than you, had taken to fill the middle space. The second was more goofy, Keigo wrapped an arm around you, pulling your cheek to him to smooch, his right arm flexed whilst one of your siblings dangled from it, the other with arms raised with a ‘ me next, me next!’ expression. Your mother was too busy laughing at the antics to see your father grip onto her side in the attempts of tickling her.

If you had to pick, the second was your favorite. That brought you to your current task, fingers moving carefully and quietly. This wasn’t just any decoration, this was something for your pretty bird's eye for shiny things.

He’d given you a necklace out of the blue one day, golden eyes beaming with pride as you slipped the jewelry over your neck, his mate was so pretty. He always thought you were, but with a hint of something shiny? He couldn’t keep his eyes away.

It wasn’t just any sort of necklace either. It was an expensive (F/gemstone). The gifts hardly stopped there however, though with the third thin gold bracelet, you pleaded with him to be more frugal if he must give you gifts. ( You appreciated the pretty things with all your heart, the gesture was not lost on you. However ,you did not need this much jewelry!)

You had to return the favor. Something special, just for him. You checked the clock on your phone and the slowly brightening sky; just before dawn. You stepped down from the ladder, looking to the ceiling, admiring your handiwork.

The tell tale beat of wings alerted you to his arrival just as you’d shoved the ladder back into the closet. Perfect timing.

You rushed over to his side as he came in through the window, a muttered, “ There’s my girl” at his lips as he pressed a quick kiss to your temple, an arm wrapped around you.

“What are you doing up so early?”

You rubbed your nose against his gently. “I’ve got a surprise for you”

You had no idea how your timing was so perfect. Something in the back of your head said you’d be paying for this with plenty of tardies for work.

You motioned to the blank wall in the living room facing the window. It was such a large space, clearly meant for some sort of statement piece. So far, neither of you had decided what to put there. Until now.

The sun began to rise into its place, the light catching his eye to something from the chandelier- crystals?

The light hit just right, prisms of colors hitting the wall in gentle shapes.

“Do you like it?” Your voice flitted through his ears as he stared on the wall, feathers ruffled, pleasantly matching the bright smile on his face.

“Like it? Baby bird I Love it” his voice was breathy in a way you hadn’t heard before, eyes unable to stay away from the colors for too long. “What brought this on?”

You shrugged, “ I know you like pretty, shiny things, so i thought...what’s something I can do for you?” you motioned to the chandelier, “ So i decided to have some hanging crystals attached to the chandelier, so that way no matter what time of day, the light will hit it just so and make these pretty colors”

He gently grabbed the hand you had been motioning with, pressing his lips to your palm, before then pulling you into a kiss, his hands cupping your face. You could still taste the cool sky on his slightly chapped lips, warming you up in the best way.

Did you just propose to him in bird terms with not only a shiny, but a pretty shiny for your nest? Well yes, yes you had.

He pulled away, forehead pressed to yours as his thumb idly stroked your cheek, his smile unable to stay away.

While the bird in him was jumping for joy, he kept his cool on the outside, happy and in awe as little coos were pulled from the back of his throat. It was a bit soon for the human side of proposing.

He grinned as he caught the shift in the crystals as the sun rose higher in the sky, the crystals' reflections turning into a slight diamond shape. But the two of you had all the time in the world for the ceremonies of your relationship. You were mates, through and through.
