Love Makes You Weak

Summary:

The Fourth Harbinger was easily one of the most beautiful beings in Teyvat. Her eyes never failed to captivate her prey and yet; love was never part of the question for her. She never believed in what commoners called “true” love. Love made the mind weak and useless, blind and irrational. In a world where two individuals were connected as soulmates, she vowed to never be tied down. As it turns out, her fated partner believes the same.

Chapter Text

The success of Signora and Tartaglia's mission to retrieve the Geo Archon's gnosis was a reliever for the Harbingers. After the affair, their arrival to Snezhnaya had come with many other pieces of information deemed important to note by the Tsaritsa. Fittingly, the most interesting of the new intel was certainly the mark that had appeared on Tartaglia's right forearm. His constellation was now branded into his skin by an unknown force to indicate an encounter with his soulmate. In the world of Teyvat, vision wielders, gods, monsters, and the soulmate's mark occurrence was something of no surprise by its inhabitants. The occurrence of Childe's soulmate, however, was shocking for the Harbingers of Snezhnaya. To reveal the mark of a soulmate, the two fated individuals must have had to kiss, which would only mean... This announcement's upbringing was almost too funny for the ten vision wielders sitting in the meeting hall.

The prestigious group found humor in the irony that their youngest had somehow snagged a kiss from the traveler who insisted on getting in the way of the Tsaritsa. We could use this against that dreaded girl, they all thought to themselves.

Colombina, the Fourth, couldn't help but see through his weakness. A soulmate was decided by fate, and to love said soulmate, was a choice of the individual entirely. She was smart enough to see through those who had fallen for the trap of fake promises and blinded emotions. She was smart enough to see the way his eyes almost gleamed as he spoke of the blonde outlander during his summary. It was part of her job to pick up on these things, after all. She was notorious within the organization for luring in unsuspecting men and women with her looks and charm. Once their guards were down, and their hearts were on their sleeves, that is when she would attack. Efficient and fun, as she saw it. No need for blood and violence. Emotions and whittling away at the mind was good enough for her.

Much like many of the other Fatui members, she was yet to resentfully receive her mark. She didn't want to get the mark, she didn't believe that she had a soulmate, to begin with. What godforsaken individual such as her, with the lust for suffering and pain for her enemies, would deserve a fated lover? Not that she wanted one.

The Eleven were dismissed after their "most interesting post-mission meeting," but a few were called to stay back for their next orders.

"Well fuck, this is going to be so much fun.” Colombina was exhausted after the long day and made sure to lace an extreme amount of sarcasm in her tone.

She had a headache that kept coming and going as if to taunt her for the rest of the week. Her junior, the Sixth, brought her the news of their mandatory expedition to Liyue to find a way into Inazuma. It had been many years since the lady had stepped foot into her homeland, and she was not keen on the idea to return with the same company as the time before.

"What the fuck is that supposed to mean? If you were my subordinate, you would have been decimated by now.” Ah, there it was. Her headache had returned. As per usual, Scaramouche was irritant as ever.

It was a no-brainer that they would be paired for this mission. She was the only one out of the Eleven blessed with enough patience to stand his pompous ass for extended periods of time, and they both had a vast knowledge of the areas they were ordered to travel to. Their families had grown accustomed to believing their extremely tall tale of being “traveling lovers” while also working for the Tsaritsa. The thought of staying with her family for a visit as they pampered the Inazumese male, thinking that he would someday be their son-in-law, made her want to puke. Love was weak.

"Do I look like your subordinate? Might I remind you that I am your senior by birthright and by Harbinger status?”

"Please, you’re only older by, what? Three months? And we both know that Harbinger status only refers to the order in which we became a Harbinger. You only became a Harbinger 2 years before I did.” She wanted to wipe that smirk off his face.

She turned from him with a swift motion. She haughtily walked away from the conversation, leaving him in the conference hall alone. There was packing that needed to be done, and she was not one for being late, especially not on the Tsaritsa’s orders. They were due to board the ship to Liyue first thing in the morning.

“Well, she’s feisty as ever.” Scaramouche mused to himself. He rather enjoyed teasing and bothering the Tsaritsa’s Crying Dove to see how long her prized patience could last. Despite her verbal disdain of him, he could tell she was more fond of him than the others. They never were good at lying to each other. Prideful that he had at least one ally at the Queen’s round table, he waltzed off to his own living quarters.

What type of chaos could the duo wreak upon Eastern Teyvat this time?

The character, Colombina, was based on a random doodle I did when I was bored.
