Chapter 1

Come to my place – BA

The text comes in after Jason has crossed the bridge, merged onto the highway, and left Gotham so far behind that not even the Gothic, smog-shrouded skyscrapers that loom imposingly over all life unfortunate enough to exist in their shadow are visible in the mirrors of his motorcycle.

Will be late – JP

Because even driving through the night at top speed – assuming he wants to play chicken with the highway patrol and the local police – there's no way he can make it before nightfall the next day.

Don't care. Ping me when you're an hour out. I'll be waiting – BA

The message ends with a kissy face, and Jason never thought a simple emoji could do things to him.

But this one does.

It tells him it was all worth it. That there's a light at the end of this tunnel. That he's wanted in someone's life. That he has a home.

And no, he definitely doesn't have to swerve suddenly to avoid plastering himself against a slow-moving vehicle as tears momentarily blur his vision.

And he most definitely doesn't actually pull over as the first sobs creep up his throat and shake his shoulders so badly he's afraid he'll lose control.

Through sheer force of will, he shoves it all down and pulls himself together, gunning the engine once he's back in traffic and doing his damnedest to give even Hermes a run for his money.

Because he has somewhere to be.

And someone to be there with.

Chapter 2

He'd stopped for exactly three hours of sleep and two cups of coffee, and even that felt much too long. He arrives at Barry's house exhausted and chasing the tale end of the sunlight.

When the door opens and Jason sees his boyfriend's face – smiling, happy, open – it's pure instinct to reach out and take Barry's head in his hands and bring their lips together, relishing the feeling of the older man's hands on his hips, gliding smoothly around his waist, and finally pulling them together tightly.

Pouring everything he's got into it, Jason kiss-walks them backwards down the hallway, kicking the door shut as he enters. When he finally has Barry up against the wall, the barrage of closed-mouth pecks turns to something much deeper as his tongue prods for entrance to his boyfriend's mouth and wastes no time thoroughly exploring the wet heat once granted access.

His hands tangle in Barry's hair, and he keeps kissing the older man until his aching lungs force him to come up for air, sucking in a breath as quickly as he can so he can dive back down into his boyfriend's lips.

The second time they separate, they're both panting like sprinters running full tilt, and Jason doesn't realize he's crying until the pad of Barry's thumb swipes gently across his cheeks. He can't even describe what he's feeling, but what he sees in his boyfriend's brilliant blue eyes has him resting his forehead against the older man's as he struggles to catch his breath. Despite the tightness in his chest, he feels light enough to float away.

"It's over," he gasps, not believing the words even as he says them, once more waiting for it to all be a dream. But the warm breath against his cheek doesn't fade, and the arms around him don't let go – if anything, they hold him tighter. And somehow that makes it easier to breathe. "It's actually over."

"Congratulations, babe," Barry says softly against his boyfriend's lips, emphasizing the word with a kiss. "I'm so proud of you. You did it." Another kiss meets the younger man's lips. He knows what it took – knows what it took out of Jason to get here.

"Thank you," Jason whispers. For being here. For not leaving. For caring. For giving me a chance. He tries to say all of it with two words.

"Always."

They stay in each other's arms for several more minutes, bodies swaying to a rhythm only they can hear, before Barry rests his cheek against Jason's and quietly says, "I made dinner. Hungry?"

The younger man nods, but steadfastly holds Barry close as he tries to move away towards the kitchen. Jason feels Barry's mouth against his neck curling into a smile, the short puffs of breath that are his silent giggles.

"How are we going to do this then?"

In lieu of words, Jason shifts so his arms are under Barry's butt and, without warning, lifts his boyfriend off the ground. With a yelp, the older man's legs instinctively wrap around Jason's waist as his arms encircle the younger man's neck. The space between them vibrates with laughter Barry doesn't even try to muffle.

When they reach the kitchen, Jason still doesn't let go. Somehow they manage to share their meal while in each other's arms. And when they're done, that's how they make love.

And the next morning, when they awaken, they're still entwined in each other's arms.
