Chapter 1: Since You’ve Been Gone

Chapter Text

Since You’ve Been Gone

It's been five weeks since dream couple Alex and Maggie (dubbed Sanvers by the SuperFriends) broke up. On the outside, Alex looks like she's amazing; like, yeah, I broke up with my fiancée and it hurts but I'm fine.

That's not what it's like on the inside.

On the inside she is doubting whether or not she made the right decision. Was kids really worth giving up all she had with Maggie? Maggie was her Lois to Clark. Maggie was the shiny stars. Maggie was Alex's world (after Kara of course). However, she knew that deep down if she had stayed with Maggie and given up her dreams of being a mom, then somewhere along the road she would have hated her; she would rather this than hate her. Anyway.

"Alex, it's game night!" protested Kara (in her Supergirl suit so she had to be a little quiet when talking about her afternoon plans) in the conference room of the DEO base. "You can't skip out," Alex couldn't look at her sister when she replied.

"I know, and I'm sorry Kara, but I'm really wiped. I just want to go home and get some sleep," Alex replied. She then turned her computer off and walked away from the Kryptipnian.

"Liar," mumbled Kara in sadness. She heard Alex's heart speed up and she had been smelling whiskey on her sister all week. On Sunday when she popped round to her apartment the smell was so strong on her enhanced nose she almost puked. Sighing, Kara walked away feeling dejected.

She had to help her sister.

She couldn't let her break down again.

Not like last time.

Alex unlocked her apartment and threw her coat on the table. She then unholstered her gun and dropped it on top. As Alex turned, she saw a T-shirt on the floor. It was almost under her bed to it wasn't usual she hadn't seen it before. It was the same T-shirt Maggie wore the first night she slept over. Alex woke up to her making breakfast.

"It's called happiness Danvers, get used to it," Maggie had said with her dimpled grin. Alex had gotten used to it. She loved the happiness…. She loved loves Maggie; and nothing is going to change that.

Alex held back a tear as she grabbed a bottle of bourbon from her cupboard and poured a full glass of it. Not like the centermeters people usual pour in them cups. She filled it up to just over the halfway point.

And then she drank it in one without taking a breath; impressive huh? Nope. This had been the theme for days.

Alex then lost herself in the drinks again.

This time there was no J'onn to help her.

There was no coming back from boken.

Her second chance had already happened and people don't really get third chances. She was lucky to get a second chance and that was because of her dad. She took a swig from the bottle. Her dad. Wow, Alex mused, my life is a frickin film.

Alien sister.

Secretive Mom.

Works for a secret government agency.

Dad went missing and returned as a DOUBLE AGENT.

Destructive tendencies.

Horrible life choices from 17-23.

Her boss is a freaking Alien himself.

Alex rubbed her face and brought her hand threw her hair as she finished the bottle.

(F) Kara

-Alex I know you aren't asleep

-I can hear your heartbeat

-and I can see u

Alex made a show at the door of opening a can of laga and taking a gulp.

(F) Kara

-Alex please don't do this. I know you're hurting and I know you miss her but don't throw your life away over this. I'm sure that you'll find somebody else that will love you and want the same things as you.

-Please Alex, let me in!

Alex rolled her eyes and stumbled slightly over to the door where Kara was. Kara came barrelling in and hugged her. Alex pushed her away.

"What do you want Kara?" Alex asked coldly as she took another sip. Kara clenched her jaw and took the van before drinking it all in one go— she winced at the bitter taste and wondered how humans drank it. "Hey. Bitch," Alex mumbled.

Kara made her sit down. "Alex. Look at me and talk to me," Kara pleaded. Alex looked in her sisters eyes. "I'll call Eliza," she threatened.

Alex let out a breathy chuckle and closed her eyes. She let the breeze from her open window ("Alex! You're as bad as Kara. She leaves her door unlocked and you leave your windows wide open!" Maggie berated one night. "Maggie, we are three floors up. Nobody is breaking into my apartment," laughed Alex. "That's what's everyone says," Maggie retorted. "I am not everyone Maggie Sawyer," Alex said as she gently pressed her lips to Maggie's. Maggie stared in Alex's eyes and muttered under breath, "You Danvers girls are gonna be the death of me,") engulf her and she promptly got that memory put of her head.

"Alex, let me help you. Please. You're always looking out for me so let me do it for you," Kara said, she moved closer and grabbed her sisters hands. Alex pulled them out of Kara's reach and stood up.

"You can't help Kara. Unless you can fly so fast and turn the Earth around; go back in time ("Kal actually did that once," Kara mumbled under her breath) and stop me from breaking up with her; which you can't," Alex yelled. "This isn't something you can punch, Kara. You can't blow my feelings for Maggie away. You can't freeze them and you sure as hell can't incinerate them or fly them away. These are human feelings that are resolved anyway we can," Alex went to find more drinks.

Kara frowned. "What's that meant to mean Alex?" she asked perplexed.

"What I mean is that you wouldn't understand how I feel, Kara. You wouldn't. I am a human and I can't fly to get rid of my problems. If I did that then I wouldn't be alive anymore. If I did that then I would be a disappointment to Mom and I would leave you! So, yeah, I drown myself in alcohol. Yeah I shut everyone out. But I can't get rid of my feelings like a fricking Vampire. Okay. Not like you," she snapped. Kara didn't know what to say.

"I don't get rid of my feelings when I get this sad Alex," Kara said.

"Yes, yes you do. When Mon-El died you shut everyone out and you stopped being Kara Danvers. You were Kara Zor-El, Supergirl. You said to me that if Maggie went then I would be in the bar; drunk. You were right. I said you were. You just go all Alien on us," Alex responded as she drank some more.

"You don't mean that. I am as human as anyone when it comes to my emotions. You know this," Kara said. "I know you don't mean it because when you are hurt or drunk or both you lash out. And that's what you're doing now," Alex scoffed.

"Are you adding 'shrink' to your CV? I wouldn't if I were you, you'll just advise your clients to fill the atmosphere with whatever their partner is allergic too," Alex laughed but it sounded hollow. Kara stared at Alex, she tried to keep the tears at bay but this wasn't her Alex. This wasn't her sister. "Nothing to say Kara? Why don't you leave?" Kara stood her ground and walked over to each other

"Because, like Bill Withers sang," Kara said, "Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow, but, if we are wise., we know that there's always tomorrow, lean on me, when you're not strong, and I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on... For it won't be long, till I'm gonna need somebody to lean on, please swallow your pride, if I have things you need to borrow, for no one can fill, those of your needs that you won't let show, you just call on me brother sister

"That's not the-" interrupted Alex, she was trying to ward of a huge smile that was coming. She felt so stupid for whats he said to Kara and made a note to do something for her tomorrow— if she remembered.

"I know," Kara interjected with a soft smile. She walked close and gently pulled Alex into a Kryptonian Cuddle, "when you need a hand, we all need somebody to lean on," she finished the song on a gentle note.

"That was cute," Alex said as she tried not to break down. Kara heard the slight waver in her voice and held on, she pressed a sisterly kiss on Alex's forehead and continued to hug her distraughted sister. "I can't do this Kar," she cried.

"Shh. Yes you can because you are amazing. And I will always be there for you," Kara comforted. "We all will,"

Alex then broke down. She started to sob and cling to her sister so Kara brought them to the floor and Alex cried for all she could have had. She cried for her failed relationship. She cried for the third chance that has been handed her.

She cried for Maggie.

For her dad.

Kara took it all. She took all her harsh words and her destructive behavior and she took it all with a smile and a song. "I love you Kara. So much," sobbed Alex.

"I love you too Lexie," Kara said, using a nickname she hasn't used in years. Alex soon passed out from exhaustion and emotional feelings, you know what I mean.

Over in Gotham, Maggie wasn't doing any better. Worst part was that she didn't have any friends. She wasn't friends with the resident vigilante in this city.

She was just Maggie.

Detective Maggie Sawyer. Not Detective Maggie Sawyer-Danvers… or whatever way round she would have had it.

All because I was too scared of hurting a hypothetical child like my parents did me, she thought bitterly in the bar. She downed the shot of bourbon and ordered another. She didn't have work for the next two days. Mines-well make the most of it.

Chapter Text

- Kara and Alex are having an adventure and things lead to another and Alex breaks her arm. (Pre-Supergirl) set three weeks after Kara goes to live with them

Why is your arm all floppy?!

It was 11pm. Eliza and Jeramiah were about to pop off to bed and Alex wanted to go out. Not like a rebellious teenager out but more like ‘my sister is an alien and she can fly’ out. “Kara. Pst. Kara!” Alex whisper-yelled. Kara opened her eyes and looked at Alex with confusion and frustration.

“What is it Alex. Eliza and Jeramiah will be mad if they know you’re still awake,” Kara asked. Alex hid a smirk and opened the window.

“Come on. Let’s go to the beach,” she said with a now prominent grin. Kara debated it all in her head and decided that it wasn’t bad. She got up out of bed and they both quickly changed into shirts and T-shirt’s before climbing into the roof.

“This wasn’t my idea if we get caught,” Kara said suddenly. Alex scoffed.

“As if you’d get the blame anyway,” she said incredulously. There was an awkward silence then so Alex mumbled “sorry” and then Kara held her and they shot off.

“Either way. We are both dead if they catch us. Elizas rath of fury is almost as frightening as …as my mother’s,” Kara said, a sad look casting over her face but gone in an instant. Alex tried to rub her back but it was a little hard as they had already taken off.

And Alex didn’t feel like falling any time soon.

They landed on the beach and Alex immediately lay down on the cold sand. Kara watched her new sister like she had a third head. “Why are you laying in the sand?” she asked.

“Because it’s nice and cold,” Alex replied. She had shut her eyes and was loving the breeze that was going on on the beach. She loved the breeze. “Come on, you try. Kara,” Alex said as she tried to pull the Kryptonian on the floor.

“But it’s so small and it gets in your clothes,” Kara protested, she learnt that the hard way. Alex rolled her eyes again and surprised her sister by sweeping her legs out from under her. Kara yelled out in shock and landed on the floor. It momentarily winded her. “Alex!” she yelled.

Alex started to laugh hysterically and stood up to avoid the playful punches off her sister. Kara got up to and began to chase Alex around the beach. They soon got to where people hunted for crabs and Alex climbed ok the rocks. “Alex, be careful!” warned Kara. She turned her back for a minute as she thought she heard somebody. Somebody familiar. Kara brushed it off and turned back to Alex just as the fourteen year old slipped and fell inbetween the rocks. She screamed in pain and wouldn’t stop. “ALEX!” Kara yelled. She floated over to her sister and found that Alex was trapped. She grabbed the hood of her sisters jacket and tried with all her might to lift her up; Kara managed to do it at the end but they went crashing the short distance onto the main beach.

Alex groaned and cried with pain as she held her arm. “Owww,” she whined. Kara kneeled over to Alex and inspected Alex’s hurt arm. Alex hissed in pain and recoiled her injured body part when Kara gently took it. Kara immediately let go and looked worried.

“Alex what’s wrong?” she asked in concern. “Why’s your arm all floppy?!” Alex didn’t answer. Instead, she held her arm with pain flashing on her face. Alex had tears leaking out her eyes and her breaths came in short, pained gasps. “Alex! I’ll-I’ll go get Eliza!” Kara said.

“Nuh-no! Kar-rah!” Alex cried as she grabbed Kara’s foot. “Don’t lea-leave. I’m scared!” she started to cry and hit her head on the sand in pain as she scrunched her eyes shot.

Kara looked troubled as she looked back and forth from the direction of home and Alex. Thinking quick, she yanked her jacket off. “Alex. This is going to hurt,” Kara said with glassy eyes. Alex took a deep breath and closed her eyes before taking a deep, shuddering breath.

“Oh-kay,” Alex whimpered as Kara went to touch her but the alien knew she couldn’t stop. She sat Alex up gently and Kara wrapped the arms of the grey sweater around Alex’s neck in a double knot and made sure her injured arm was resting nicely in the cradle now made from the body of the sweater. Alex winced during it all but sighed in relief when her arm was rested.

Kara helped her stand and then picked her up bridal style and getting in the air. “Ahh! Kara gen-gentle!” scolded the injured girl. Kara looked at her with sorry written across her whole head and she flew off— slowly.

Kara landed at their window and put Alex down. She then climbed in and helped Alex in. Alex collapsed onto Kara’s bed and squeezed her eyes shut again as pain took over. Kara isn’t exactly a smooth flight; there was a lot of turbulence. “Kara. You’re gon-gonna have to go in-in mom and dads room,” Alex said. Kara looked nervous but nodded and left the room.

“Eliza. Jeramiah,” Kara called tentatively as she knocked on the door. She knocked again and heard a tired come in from Eliza.

Shuffling in, Kara stood next to Eliza and fought the edge to cry at what she was about to say. “What is it sweetie?” Eliza asked as she became more alert.

“Me and Alex snuck out. Alex is hurt,” she said quickly; biting her lip and messing with her hands. Eliza became even more concerned and turned to her husband.

“Jeramiah. Alex is hurt!” Eliza said as she stood up. Jeramiah woke up and followed Kara and his wife down to the sisters room where Alex was desperately trying not to cry.

“Mom. Dad. It hurts,” cried Alex. Her eyes were red and puffy and Kara immediately felt like she was intruding. Despite the fact she had been living with them for three weeks already, she feels like she doesn’t belong here. “Make it stop,” she begged.

Kara walked over and sat at the end of the bed. “We went to the beach and Alex slipped on the rocks,” Kara explained quietly; shame filling her. What if she wasn’t an alien? They would still be at the beach and Alex would be in so much pain without her parents. Just an orphan for company.

“Kara, can you use your x-ray vision?” asked Eliza. She was in mama-mode so whatever wrongdoings her girls had done can wait.

Kara rubbed the back of her neck. “I can’t just… you know. X-Ray. I haven’t controlled it yet,” Kara replied nervously. Jeramiah crouched down.

“Kara. Please try,” he begged. Kara got closer to Alex and stared really hard at her sisters arm. “Anything?”

“Urm.. she has a freckle,” Kara replied with a nervous laugh. That even made Alex laugh but she stopped when it aggravated her arm. Kara tried it again. Really focused. She saw it! “Woah. There’s a-a long bone, I’m guessing, and it’s cracked. There’s a shorter piece that is not attached to it and it’s at the side,” Kara explained as best she could.

“Point to where the fracture is,” Eliza said. Kara pointed to the middle of Alex’s forearm. Eliza sighed and rubbed her face. “We are going to have to go to the hospital,” she revealed.

Alex pulled a face but she was too tired to say anything. Kara didn’t have an opinion; she didn’t really know what a hospital was. Jeramiah looked knackered, and Eliza looked frustrated and concerned. Jeramiah got close to Alex and pulled her in for a gentle hug. Alex relished in this feeling. After all, it had been a while since they had been close like this. He had been taking his time to help Kara deal with her powers.

Kara got a coat on and the two adults helped Alex get a coat around her shoulders. “Do you want me to sit with you in the back Alex?” Jeremiah asked her daughter. Alex nodded enthusiastically. She turned and caught Kara’s sad face. Something was bothering her little sister. Alex but her lip and turned back to her dad.

“Actually, I want to sit with Kara please,” Alex said. Jeramiah (and Kara) looked surprised but they got in the car. Alex winced, softly cried out and shook slightly as she tried to get in the car without hurting her arm, but she got there in the end.

A few minutes into the drive and Alex turned to her sister, she had tear tracks down her cheeks. “What’s up buttercup?” Alex asked quietly.

“This is my fault. If I had said no then you wouldn’t have gotten hurt,” Kara whispered back sadly.

Alex shook her head. “I would have made you take me Kara. It’s all my fault. I knew the rocks were slippery,” Kara have her a small smile and Alex rested her head on Kara’s shoulder.

“I’m meant to be looking after you, Miss Broken Arm,” joked Kara.

“You are. You are my pillow,” Alex yawned and closed her eyes. Kara stared at her older sister and smiled at her sleeping form. “S’op s’arin’. I’s c’eepy,” Alex mumhled. Kara smirked and rested her head on her sisters and fell asleep too.

At the hospital, Eliza went to speak as she turned to look at her quiet girls. “Honestly. You two wake us up at midnight and you’ve both fallen asleep,” she mused incredulously. “Have you seen this Jerami-”

A soft snore was heard from next to her and she turned to see her husband was fast asleep too. Deep breath in. Remember you love them and it would be very wrong to murder them. Although we are outside a hospital, Eliza thought. She shook her head and woke her husband.

Amends of those who have wronged us

Nobody is sure how it happened, after all, it’s not something somebody can stumble on easily. You know, one minute there is a 5’6 woman in her office and in a second there is now a 3’4 kid in her place. The girl looked around her office in fear, where was she? Where was Lex? Her father? “Daddy?” she called, she tried to get up but her clothing drowned her. Despite the fact it had shrunk quite a bit, it wasn’t kid friendly in length. Especially someone as short as baby Lena. “Daddy?” she called again. He did work in an office and the screen said L-Corp, although Lena heard her Daddy call it LuthorCorp.

The door suddenly flew open and Lena screamed, she jumped and turned around to see… her mother? “Oh ..hello,” the woman said with a frown. “I didn’t realize Lena was babysitting,” she said.

Lena frowned and opened her mouth to speak but somebody else walked in, “Excuse me, but I don’t need permission to see my daughter— oh my god L-” Lillian stopped talking and stared at Little Lena.

“Right. Sorry Miss Luthor,” Jess said and she then walked out. Lillian walked over to the girl and Lena stared at her.

“Mummy?” Lena asked as she shivered a little.

“Hello …Lena,” Lillian said with a confused look on her face. How was this her Lena? “What-what are you doing here?” she asked.

“I-I don’t know. Mummy, I’m scared. I went sleep and then I woke’d up and I’m here!” Lena said. Her green eyes filling with tears as she tried to get to Lillian. Lillian looked at the little girl again and hesitantly picked her up. Lena latched into Lillian, not even caring she would probably get told off later for being too emotional.

“Oh. Okay,” Lillian looked around and placed Lena on the couch. She then took the huge dress off her daughter and saw how thin Little Lena truly was. She was small for her age, a bit on the too thin side and her hair was shoved in a quick ponytail. What on Earth happened.

Lena shivered as she was only in her panties and hugged herself. Lillian found Lena’s (big, adult Lena’s) jacket and coat hung up. Lillian grabbed them and put her jacket on the younger version of her daughter and picked her up.

Of course. We have Aliens and now people turning back time into kids, she thought bitterly.

At Lex’s mansion (yes Lillian knew about it, it was her sons and she helped him come up with the password) Lillian set Lena on the sofa and went to get a drink of anything strong. “Mummy, where’s Daddy and Lex?” Lena asked as she walked into the huge kitchen. Lillian stiffened.

“Lione— Daddy is on a work trip Lena and… Lex is with him,” Lillian lied. Lena cocked her head and frowned at her mother.

“Lex went with daddy? He hates work trips. He told me once. He don’t want any’fing to do with the work much,” Lena said with a sigh. “When I was sad he would come into my room and tell me all the things he wanted!” she smiled at the memories.

Lillian grabbed her hand and pulled her upstairs (it was natural to her, what she used to do years ago when Lena was naturally six years old) and into her old bedroom. Lena held back a cry at the normal treatment from her mother. Lillian heard the little sniffle and turned to see she was holding Lena’s wrist a bit too hard for the child’s fragile bone and promptly let go. Lena held her wrist and wiped some tears away. “I’m…. sorry Lena,” Lillian said. Lena looked surprised as she held her wrist to her body. Since when did her mummy apologize for hurting her? It was usually her Daddy or Lex that said sorry for her.

“Why are you ‘pologising?” Lena asked softly. Lillian didn’t know what to say, this was all knew to her. She was never close to Lena when she was younger. All that she had told her at prison was true, she did gravitate to Lex because of Lionel. However, it was because she knew that Lionel had cheated on her. She didn’t want that constant reminder and ego bruiser to be around her all the time.

“Because I hurt you. A mother shouldn’t hurt their child. No matter what,” Lillian replied. She didn’t look at the shocked girl, just tried to see if there was anything left behind. This place hadn’t been used in years.

She almost missed Lena’s small, heartbreaking reply. “But you do,” she whispered, a tear falling down her cheek. Lillian held back her own tears – she wouldn’t cry, no matter how much she has changed and how badly she wants to try again and look after Lena – and kneeled down. She hugged her tightly and Lena flinched a little at the contact. A lone tear fell slowly down her cheek as she hugged the little girl.

“And I am so sorry about that Lena. I will try and do better,” she said sadly. “Come on little miss. Let’s get you dressed. I found some pajamas from when you were five. They should fit seeing how small you are,” Lena nodded and wiped her tears away.

“Okay mummy,” she said. Lena walked off and rubbed her eyes, she was a little tired.

Lillian watched her go and let out a shaky breath. “I am so sorry for all the pain I caused you. If only I didn’t have an ego the size of the ocean,” she said to herself. “I will help you this time. Let’s get our girl back,” she grabbed Lena’s phone (she had snatched it from her office) and found Kara D. and pressed the contact. Don’t ask how she knew her daughters password. She knew that Kara Danvers had an FBI (DEO maybe) sister and said agent had a cop girlfriend.

She would save her daughter. Find out who did this. Why they did this. However for now, she would take care for Lena. Like she should have. “Mummy! Can I have some hel— wait second! I have it,” Lena yelled. Lillian heard the slight fear in her voice and concluded that she was scared to ask for help. That’s when it hit her.

The last time she could remember Lena asking her for help as a child was when she had been living with them for a year. She was five and wanted help with something at kindergarten (did they go kindergarten at 5?) and Lillian had yelled at her because “Luthors don’t need help! We solve things on our own because in the real world people will stab you in the back without mercy!” and then proceed to be horrible for an hour.

Lillian thought back at how she treated Lena back then. All because Lionel cheated. “It’s okay honey! I’ll be there in a minute!” Lillian replied. She set the phone down; maybe she can enjoy it for the day.

tell me if you want a part two... or if it was shit 😂 😂

Chapter 4: Alex needs help

Summary:

Alex has nightmares and Kara and Maggie know she needs help.

(About the time she was taken by Rick)

Chapter Text

Maggie got in from work and found Alex sat on her bed with her computer on her lap. Maggie walked over and was greeted by Alex’s bright smile (although Maggie sensed something different about it) and her inviting arms as she placed the laptop down.

Maggie got on the bed and straddled her girlfriend, her head rested on Alex’s shoulder and her arms hugging around her waist. Maggie felt and heard Alex prevent a yawn and looked up at her girlfriend. “Alex. You look shattered,” Maggie said bluntly. Alex chuckled.

“Gee, thanks Mags. You do know how to flatter a girl,” Alex replied dryly. Maggie rolled her eyes playfully and kissed her lips.

“No. I mean it, Alex. You look really tired,” she said this a lot more seriously and Alex sighed.

She relaxed more into the pillows and made patters in Maggie’s back. She wanted something to do. Wanted something to keep her busy. “Yeah well, me and the dream land aren’t exactly on the best of terms at the moment,” Alex said quietly. Maggie felt her heart break; Alex had kept this in for at least two weeks.

Maggie had been dumped a bunch of paperwork on top of double shifts the last couple weeks so she relented and stayed at her one place — she was not happy though, at all. This was because it had only been three weeks since Alex was kidnapped and Maggie wanted to keep the other Agent as close to her as possible.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Maggie asked. She turned her head so she could press a few gentle kisses to Alex’s neck every so often.

Alex shrugged, “I- I guess it didn’t seem important. I knew you were busy with work and I didn’t want to bother Kara,” she replied. Maggie sighed and sat up so she could look her beautiful girlfriend in her sad eyes.

“Alexandra Danvers, you are an idiot. Of course it’s important, if you are having trouble sleeping because some arsehole kidnapped you and forced you to become a frickin’ fish (she got a little smirk at her joke), then tell me. Tell Kara. I’m your girlfriend, I want to be there for you.” Maggie said seriously. Alex felt tears in the corner of her eyes and hugged Maggie tightly.

“Maggie…” she called quietly after a few minutes.

“Yeah babe,” Maggie replied softly, she stroked Alex’s tear stained cheek affectionately.

“I need to go to sleep …can you hold me?” she asked. Maggie heard her voice and it sounded so small she wondered if it was a five year old girl in Alex’s place.

Maggie brushed some loose hairs out of Alex’s hair and nodded. “Of course,” she replied, placing a loving kiss on Alex’s lips.

When Maggie got into some loose fitting shorts and one of her hoodies, she climbed into bed. Alex immediately curled up, moulding to fit the gap in Maggie’s body; desperate to be as close to her safety net as possible.

Maggie simply held her tight and pressed small kisses along Alex’s head and rubbed her back. “I’m here Alex, you can go to sleep. I’m here and I love you,” she murmured. “Te quiero muchísimo. Nunca te dejaré,” she said in Spanish. (I love you a lot. I will never leave you — from Google translate)

Alex relaxed and drifted off….

Maggie woke up to someone pushing her lightly and her police instincts kicked in. She was alert in less than ten seconds and saw that it was Alex.

Alex was thrashing around in bed, her arms flailing around and sweat covering her forehead. “No…” she mumbled. “Kara, Maggie! Come back!”

Maggie gently shook her shoulder, “Alex. Hey, babe, wake up. Its just a dream,” she whispered, rubbing Alex’s shoulders. Alex let out a small whimper and and curled away from Maggie’s hands. “Alex baby. It’s me. You’re safe. Calm down. You’re safe,”

Alex then woke up; her breathing hard and fast and her face coated in a thin layer of sweat. She scrambled away from the person who was behind her and almost fell off the bed. Maggie grabbed her arm though and kept her on.

“Hey, hey. Alex, Alex. It’s Maggie,” Maggie said calmly as Alex looked around panicked. Her eyes slowly went back to their normal size and she hurried her face into Maggie’s chest; sobs forcing their way out of her.

Maggie kept rubbing her back and kissing her head. “It was so scary!” sobbed Alex. “It’s so horrible when you’re trapped and you can breath — it was like in the films where the actors are trapped under ice and they can’t find the whole they dig to get down there in the first place. It’s like that. Alex couldn’t physically get fight enough to breath because of the bars on the ceiling and she couldn’t escape.

“Don’t talk at the minute Alex. Focus on getting your breath again,” Maggie said softly. She rubbed her back and said soothing words to her again.

Soon enough, her sobs died away. It left her hiccuping and tired. “Than-thanks,” Alex mumbled. Maggie made her look at her and wiped her tears away.

She looked at her girlfriend knowingly. “Is this why you haven’t been sleeping?” Alex nodded wordlessly and cuddled back into her chest. “Want to try and go sleep again?” she asked. Alex heisted before nodding her head.

She was very tired.

Maggie laid down and pulled Alex almost on top of her and drew patterns on Alex’s skin. She soon fell asleep again.

The next time it happened was only a couple days later; this time, Maggie wasn’t there. Alex writhed in bed, chest feeling tight, sweat was coating her face as it contorted to fear and then pain. “Maggie!” she cried out. A sob left her body and she shot awake. Twenty minutes of the nightmare got to her and she quickly ran to the bathroom and threw up bile. She groaned and slumped on the bathroom floor. Where was Maggie.

Her nightmare came back to her in flashes, Maggie being taken, being tortured and being made to survive in a ta k of water like she did. And then they thought Kara in. She had Kryptonite chains all around her and she was bleeding. “Kara! Leave them alone!” she remembered yelling to the CADMUS people. They had laughed and stabbed Kara then and there.

Alex flinched and put her hand out to stop herself falling. When she gathered her bearings she grabbed her phone and called the one person that could make It right. “Hey babe. What you doin up?” Maggie’s voice came through the speakers.

“Mag-Maggie,” Alex stammered. She immediately heard the change as Maggie stood up straight.

Alex, Alex what happened?!” Maggie asked. Alex could see her panicked face as she walked through the precinct. “Alex. I can hear your breathing and it’s not good. Take deep breaths,” Maggie instructed. Alex tried, she really did, but all she could feel was water.

“Maggie. Drowning,” she murmured, gagging as she tried to get rid of the nonexistent water in her lungs. She fell to the floor, phone discarded on the floor, and curled up in a ball. “Go away. Go away. Go away,” she mumbled to herself.

Suddenly, Kara came flying through the window and skidded to a halt in front of Alex. Alex flinched and moved further away from her sister.

Kara knelt down and gently held her hands out. “Hey Al. It’s me, Kara. Your sister,” Kara said softly. Alex slowly lifted her head from its place in between her knees and stared at Kara with glassy, uncertain eyes. Kara reached out and cupped her cheek. Alex then slowly uncurled and hugged her sister.

She was safe.

She was home.

That’s how Maggie saw them when she sped in. She even forgot to lock the door because all her thoughts were on Alex.

Her girlfriend was literally having a panic attack and it took her just over five minutes to get to her. Hopefully Kara got there.

And she did.

Maggie saw them sitting on the floor, leaning on the edge of the bed. Kara was in her Supergirl suit and Alex was curled in Kara’s cape in her lap. Kara wasn’t asleep but singing in a foreign language. Kryptonese, Maggie concluded. “Hey,” Maggie said quietly. She sat down next to the sisters and gently moved some hair out of Alex’s eyes. “She needs help,”

Kara nodded but kept her gaze on her sister.

“Like, real help. She won’t go in the bath and will only have a shower if I am there. She steers clear of swimming pools. Every time we are out she is always looking around, she’s even more paranoid than before — that’s saying something. “She always makes sure I have either her, you or my partner on speed dial as well. She needs a therapist,” Kara nodded in agreement again.

“Yes,” she said horsely. “Maybe we should go to Midvale for the week? I’ll book her in with the DEO approved therapists,” Kara added.

“Good,” Maggie murmured. They sat there for the rest of the night. Alex’s ragged breathing thr only noise in the apartment.

Chapter Text

You’re how old!?

Lena had always been smart, smart enough to be bumped up a few grades in school. When she started working for L-Corp she had only been twenty-one. Imagine that. CEO of a multibillion company at 21. Most people are still in school at that age, universities or colleges, but not Lena. She had been offered the CEO position when she turned eighteen but decided she wanted at least three or so years to enjoy adulthood before being trapped in a job like that.

Most of the people on the board are well into their forties or late thirties so, while they don’t really know any better, she knew that there was a huge age difference when she was throwing around sarcastic retorts at the sexist remarks. Try seeing them ace a science test when they were nine.

“Miss Luthor, I just think that—” Lena interrupted him.

“Listen, listen. Why should I make alien detection devices for homes? Hmm? So, what, you- you move into a new house and greet your neighbours— oh, but look. Your threshold is going red. Ah, alien,” Lena replied dryly, she had her hands folded and was trying not to fidget in her seat. “I think it’s a bad idea and L-Corp will not be funding or building it. Okay?” the man nodded, eyeing Lena with resentment.

She couldn’t care less.

“Good, now I believe this meeting was supposed to end ten minutes ago. I have many things to do so goodbye and thank you for your pitches,” everyone got up and was about to leave when Lena remembered something. “Oh, Jacob!” the man turned around.

“Yes Miss Luthor?”

“Come to my office on Thursday next week. Around 4-5pm,” she instructed. “I quite liked your idea and I think we can build on it,” he grinned and thanked her before leaving.

The man she had rejected scoffed and slammed his paper shut. He mumbled things like “your brother would have made it” as he got ready to leave. Lena held in her comment and walked off, anger rising. Thankfully, she was seeing a certain perky blond for lunch in fifteen minutes so her mood may turn around.

“Wait, he wanted something that will tell you if an alien has entered your home?” Kara questioned, shock on her face and also sadness. Lena put it down to the fact she knew Kara cared about everyone that was on Earth. However, the real reason is that Kara knew her identity would be screwed if that happened. “Unbeliev— actually, no, it is very believable,” she corrected.

Lena chuckled and took a sip of her drink, “Yes. Especially from him,” Lena said. “Did you know that he refused to talk to Jack?” Kara shook her head.

“No. Why? Jack was great. I mean, yeah, I didn’t know him long but you trusted him so he must have been good,” Kara rambled. That was true though. Lena does have trust issues and she only lets certain people get to know the real her; Kara being on if the lucky people. She also knew that she dated Jack at some point.

Lena shook her head. “It’s a stupid reason, that man is just so stuck up and narrow minded. It’s because Jack looked different,” Lena explained. “The jackass didn’t like him because of that. I’d always apologise to Jack after any encounter – thank god it wasn’t many – but he would aways be so kind and saying it ‘want your fault Lena’ every time,” Lena explained. Honestly, there were so many times Lena could have seriously hurt Mr Trent but she kept it in and instead hurried meetings along.

Kara scoffed and ate another potsticker. “Where I come from, the way you born is the way you’re born,” they realised their topic was getting  quite angering and wanted to change it so they could finish their lunch.

Suddenly, Lena’s phone went off and she groaned. “What?” Kara asked.

“Mr Trent is asking for my presence,” Lena scoffed and typed a reply. “Seriously! That man is well in his mid forties and he is such an immature baby! I am twenty-four years old and I more maturity and- and respect than that racists, sexist man!” she ranted.

Kara went to reply, went to calm her down but something hit her. “Wait! You’re only twenty four!” Kara yelled out in surprise. Lena chucked nervously and looked around.

“Yea- yeah. No need to yell,” Lena murmured. Kara stared at her in shock. “What? It’s just a number,”

“Yeah, a number that is lower than I thought!” Kara replied. Lena hid a laugh and took another drink. “I thought you were older!”

“I have no idea whether I should take that as a compliment or not?” Lena commented. “Should I be thanking you for being impressed by my maturity and work …or should I find new skin products and get a new barber?” she added. Kara let out an unexpected laugh and choked on her drink.

“Noo. You’re beautiful Lena,” Kara replied. “Honestly. The only reason I thought you were older was because of your- your mentality and- and the way you respond to things. Like you could become a model if the whole CEO thing doesn’t work out,” Lena blushed and quickly changed the topic.

Kara sat at her couch when she heard a knock on the door. She x-ray visioned it and saw her sister with her girlfriend. Ouch, Maggie looked a little banged up. “It’s open!” she called, muting the television (no, she wasn’t watching the news so she could see Lena get interviewed about a latest project).

“Hey Kara,” Alex greeted, helping Maggie sit on a stool. Alex went over to her sister and Maggie slyly went into the fridge to get some beer she knew Alex out there for whenever they came for game night. “My girlfriend is getting my beer from the fridge isn’t she?” she whispered to Kara; the alien nodded with an amused grin. “She’s dead,” Alex said, pretending to whisper.

“You’re not gonna kill your injured girlfriend are you?” Maggie asked playfully when she swallowed some beer. Alex rolled her eyes and sat at the couch.

“Please, you’ve twisted your ankle. You’ll be fine in a few weeks,” Alex replied. Kara soon got bored of their conversation and went back on what Lena said.

“Did you guys know that Lena was younger than me?” Kara asked out the blue. Maggie and Alex stopped their conversations and replied: “no” “yes” respectively. “How do you know?” Kara asked her sister.

“When she came to National City I did a background check on her — I focusing her birthday,” Alex replied nonchalantly. Kara rolled her eyes — common theme for the Danvers Sisters.

“Wait. Little Luthor is younger than Little Danvers?” Maggie asked. “Damn. Now I feel sorry for arresting her. She feels like a juvenile now that I know she’s younger than you,” Maggie said. The two noticed that she had just downed her drink but didn’t comment on it.

“Don’t tell her that,” laughed Kara.

“Miss Luthor, should you be driving that? Do you have a license? I would hate to have to put you in Juvie for grand theft auto and that shiz,” Maggie said with a smirk as she and Alex stopped outside the building Kara lived in. Lena got out her car and glared at the dimpled detective.

“You told them?” Lena whined when they got to Kara’s apartment. Kara bit her lip as she held in a giggle. Alex and Maggie were laughing as Lena stood in the middle of Kara’s apartment.

“Careful Kara,” Alex started. “She’s a bit cranky. Might need a nap,” Kara saw Lena’s ears go red and her cheeks go flush and laughed at that joke.

Lena groaned again and sat on the sofa. “You are all mean,” she huffed, crossing her arms. Kara sat down next to her and put a lollipop in her mouth — she has candy from halloween left over; so what? Lena glared holes in her. She knew what Kara was pretending the lollipop was and went to scold her when she saw the mirth in her eyes. Something that had been seriously lacking ever since Supergirl pressed the button and Mike (or was it Mon-El?) had to leave. She hoped he went away and didn’t die from lead poisoning. Mostly because she knew Kara believes that and if Supergirl had lied and he actually died then that wouldn’t fair. It wouldn’t be fair because she deserves closure.

“Lena? Hello?” Kara waved her arm up and down and the Irish woman looked at her. “You okay? You spaced out for a little bit there,” Lena nodded.

“Yeah …yeah I’m good Kara. Now, are we going to watch Slasher or what?” the two other woman came over and sat at the other end of the sofa; Maggie was half curled on Alex and Lena had her head resting on Kara’s shoulder.

They were three minutes into the first episode when Alex said, “Don’t worry Luthor. We’ll leave the lights on when you go to sleep,”

“Aleeeeex!” she groaned, “Kara. I want to kill your sister!” Kara and Maggie chuckled.

At game night, it’s Sanvers that lets it loose how young their best player at puzzle games was. They were playing Call of Duty as Winn brought his PlayStation, and Maggie said: “hey Lena, are you gonna be alright playing this?” to which Alex replied with “yeah, wouldn’t want you getting scared because you saw somebody get blown up,”

Lena just thought not again but then she realised that it wasn’t just the Danvers Sisters (because come on, Maggie was practically Kara’s sister) in the room. “Why would she be scared?” Winn asked as he handed our four controllers; one to Kara, Lena, Maggie and Alex. James watched with a raised eyebrow and a lager In his hand.

“Because she’s the baby of the group,” Alex replied. Lena looked down and played with her hands, a Kara thing that she picked up.

“How? Winn and Kara are twenty-seven,” James asked.

“I’m twenty-four. That’s how,” Lena told him. Why were they making such a big deal about this? She thought. Literally no one cared how young she was. As long as she got her job done and didn’t screw up of kill anyone. “Look. I’ve got L-Corp business that I should att-attend to,” she had to get out of their.

It was too much. So what if she was the ‘baby of the group’? Maggie and Alex were around 28-29.

“Well done guys,” Kara said dryly as she stood up.

“What?” Alex asked. “She is the baby of the group. She should get used to this,”

“But she isn’t. Lena didn’t exactly grow up with love so all your babying you’ve been doing the past few weeks if probably overwhelming her,” Kara replied, protectiveness shining through her blue eyes. “She’s been through so much already at that age. I came out as Supergirl when I was a few weeks shy of my twenty-fifth birthday so I wasn’t even that young when I was fighting my aunt. She’s probably been fighting with Lillian her whole life,”

That’s all they did for a month, however. Teased her about her age. They made it all playful and backed off at times but it was a joke everyone had gotten comfortable with. They also laughed at the fact that Kara gets overexcited because her favourite film just released a sequel and she is 27 yet Lena – at 24 – can run her own company spectacularly and deal with her own issues.

Then Lena found out that, despite all the jokes here and there, she had three people who really love her like their own.

Maggie, Lena, Alex and Kara were walking through National City. They were going to CatCo so Kara and Lena could gab some things when they heard a scoff and a mutter of “there’s the sister” as they walked by a couple. Alex spun around faster than even Kara felt she could manage and stormed over to the couple. “What did you just say?” she demanded, glaring at the man and woman. The person who had said it – the man – rolled his eyes and his wife buttered in.

“She will be the end of us. Forget Supergirl causing a wreck and killing us all with debris, Miss Luthor over there (“hiding behind two people like a coward” muttered the man causing Lena to flinch. Kara hugged her tightly and Maggie looked seconds away from grabbing her gun and shooting them) will probably find a way to kill us all!” she finished with a glare directed at the youngest Luthor.

Lena was trying to put her Luthor Face on but Kara’s arms were so warm and comforting around her and she heard maggie mutter “that bitch is dead” so that got a small laugh.

“What are you laughing at Luthor?!” spat the dead man walking. He stepped forward menacingly and Lena took a slight step back. Kara and Maggie stepped in front of her and then Alex suddenly pushed him to the side. He banged into the wall and glared at Alex. “Bitch. You won’t be defending that thing when she kills you all,” he Weber it walk away when his wife added:

Sweetie, they’re probably doing the whole keep by our friends close but enemies closer thing. I wouldn’t get too attached,” she then left with a disgusted face as she had to walk past the Luthor.

Lena didn’t even realise a few tears had dripped down her cheeks until Kara wiped them away gently and she was being pulled into the CatCo building. She was being dragged into a room she didn’t even know and that’s when she saw all the computer. Kara said something about it being her “first ever base” but she wasn’t listening.

There was another person in National City that made it abundantly clear that they hated her and wanted her to burn in hell.

“Lena,” Kara’s gentle voice filtered into her ears. She looked at her and found that she kneeling down in front of her and the other woman were standing next to her. “I am so sorry for what they said to you,”

Lena shook her head. “It’s fine. They hate my family and they have perfectly good reason to. I just- I hate being reminded that I am one of the most hated people in National City — probably Metroplis too. Hell, why not the entire world?!” she ranked. Kara grabbed her hands.

“Lena. If they knew you how we do, they would change how they see things,” Alex said.

“No. They wouldn’t,” Lena muttered.

“Then believe this Little Luthor,” Maggie said loudly as she walked closer to Lena. “You are family. Okay? Now, I have shitty parents too. Maybe not on a Luthor scale but I was kicked out when I was fourteen because I was a lady lover and- and that actually helped me. I grew up with an aunt and it reminded me that not everyone will be so welcoming.

But it also made me realise that not everyone is like that. I had my aunt. She loved me regardless of who I loved. Then I met this pair (she gestured to Kara and Alex) and my life was whole again. Their love filled that gap that had been missing for years and we want to fill yours. So what you had crappy parents. You now have Kara, she is basically a very good friend and a puppy all in one go. You have Alex and I. We are the cooler, older sisters. We protect the younger ones,” Maggie said firmly. Lena felt tears show and tried to wipe them away without bothering her mascara.

“You can cry, Lena. It’s the whole point of being human. Show your emotions,” Kara said softly, feeling the irony of the human comment. Lena chuckled and stopped trying to wipe her eyes.

Lena was hugged tightly by Kara …and then Alex …and then Maggie. Lena smiled at them, suddenly it wasn’t so bad being the youngest.

Chapter Text

Chapter 6

Lena had been feeling ill all day. She just put it down as exhaustion from working for 48hours but she knew deep down she needed to go home. However, she wouldn’t. She is a stubborn as a mule when it comes to anything but tell her that she is sick and that she needs to rest and she will brush you off faster than Supergirl can brush off a punch from a human.

Lena Luthor hates getting sick.

Yeah, it’s not like everyone enjoys the feeling of hurling in a porcelain bowl or their nose running faster than they can run in general, but she hates it because it limits her working capabilities and she has been taught from a young age to not let anything distract her. The company must come first. After all, all her father (Lionel) used to do was LuthorCorp this and LuthorCorp that ever since she was around five or six.

"Miss Luthor," Jess greeted her when she walked into her office. Lena snapped out her thoughts and sent a tired look at her secretary. “Miss Luthor, Morgan Edge demands to see you,” Lena could even tell that Jess was trying not to roll her eyes at the mention of the idiot.

“Honestly, that man. If he was a general, he would be dangerous. Thank god he isn’t a super villainous alien,” Lena muttered in disdain. Jess gave a soft laugh. “Send him in,” Lena let out a sigh and flopped a little bit in her chair.

She was getting a headache and was starting to feel a little sick. “ Luthor! I demand to know where you were an hour ago!” yelled Edge as he came storming into her office. Lena sighed.

“Me? I was sat in this comfy chair, drinking delicious coffee while nursing a horribleheadache. What about you Edge?” Lena replied with a sarcastic grin.

Edge didn’t appreciate it.

“Why thank you for asking Miss Luthor. Well, while you were having a spectacular evening, I was being run off the road,” he snapped; his eyes burning her.

“That seems to happen a lot to you, huh?” Lena commented dryly as she sat back down on her chair and clicked on a random file (just so she can pretend to do work while she tries not to fall asleep).

Edge didn’t take too kindly to the comment.

“And Luthor’s trying to kill people also happen,” he said. Lena was getting tired of him.

“Edge, look, I didn’t try and kill you. It would be a waste of my time and I have better things to do with my time,” Lena made a gesture for him to leave but he advanced further. “Edge, I don’t know if you can understand normal, human gestures …but that was a sign for you to leave,” she felt a sneeze coming on so she took a deep breath and put her finger under her nose to block her nostrils and thankfully she didn’t sneeze.

Edge was looking around and shook his head when the balcony door opened and a tall woman with blond hair and a red cape stepped in. “Supergirl,” Lena said in shock; what was she doing here?

“Miss Luthor,” SGirl greeted. “Edge. Do we have a problem here?” she took note of Lena’s ragged appearance and red nose and the fact she had clicked on a file that was last opened two years ago.

SGirl also too note of Morgan Edge’s aggressive stance and the glare he was sending Lena was enough to make Supergirl shudder.

Morgan remembered last time this happened and glared at both women before storming out. “Are you okay Miss Luthor?” SGirl asked as she walked further in her office.

Lena let out a small nod and a yawn left her lips. “Yes, thank you Supergirl. If you don’t mind my asking, what were you doing here?”

“Oh. I was erm, listening out in the city and decided to check on you because I know how people in this city see you. I heard your heart rate was elevated and I heard Edge’s voice,” Supergirl said.

Lena nodded and was surprised when she sneezed a little. “Sorry,” she muttered. She waved her off.

“It’s fine, I can’t get sick. Shouldn’t you be home if your feeling unwell?” Supergirl asked. Lena shook her head and looked up at the Alien (she had closed the file from two years ago and opened up a potential project that she was working on yesterday).

“No can do Supergirl,” Lena said. “Work never stops when you’re a CEO,”

Sgirl raised her eyebrow and positioned her hands on her hips (cuz she does that a lot when she is near Lena..). “Ah, no, it doesn’t. But …you can work from home. Unlike some people I know,” like Alex, Kara thought.

Lena shook her head again and got focused on her work. “I’m already here Supergirl so what’s the point in leaving. I’m a little busy if…-” Sgirl took the hint and gave a strained smile before leaving.

Five minutes later, Kara came through the door with a frazzled Jess behind her. “I am so sorry Miss Luthor. She really is so fast,” Jess said slightly breathlessly. Lena waved her off with a smile and Kara came and sat down in front of her.

“Hey Kara,” Lena greeted. Kara started at her before reaching over and shutting Lena’s computer off. “Hey! Kara! What are you- what was that for?”

Kara didn’t reply and instead grabbed Lena’s bag and coat and handed it to her. “I know you’re sick and I know you are one painkiller away from feeling like the world is spinning,” Kara finally said as she made Lena stand up.

Lena was slightly startled so wasn’t expecting Kara to lift her up and she stumbled forward into Kara. The blond tries to not blush but helped Lena stand straight with a look of told you so and handed her her bag.

When they got to Kara’s loft (Kara doesn’t know where Lena lives …SGirl does, not Kara), Kara helped Lena on her couch. “Do you want some tea?” Kara asked. Lena shook her head and shivered a little.

“Water please,” or something stronger, she thought. Kara walked back over and gave her her drink before wrapping a blanket around her. “You don’t have to do this Kara. Really, I was fine at my office. I don’t want to be an inconvenience,” Kara scoffed and moved closer to the youngest Luthor.

“You are not an inconvenience, Lee. You are my best friend and I would do anything for you,” she promised. Lena smiled and rested her head on Kara’s shoulder.

Lena opened her eyes – when did she fall asleep? – and saw that she was wrapped in really soft covers and the sun was currently attacking her face.

She finally remembered where she was.

“Kara?” She called out in a croaking voice. She coughed and that sent her in a little coughing fit as the back of her throat tickled. Kara was suddenly there in an instant with a glass of orange juice and some toast. “Thank you,” she said after she had had some juice.

“How are you feeling today?” Kara asked. Lena gave her a look that said how do you think and that’s when she sneezed. Kara cracked a grin and Lena glared at her but with the exhaustion radiating in her eyes. “Don’t worry. I called us both in sick and I told Jess that I was looking after you. I also told my sister to tell her girlfriend that you weren’t available for any arresting today,” Kara meant that last part as a joke.

Lena laughed (and coughed, thank you dry throat) at the comment. “Thanks. If only you could do that every time I am accused of some- something,” she cleared her throat.

Kara gave her a sympathetic smile. “Sorry, I get how that can be frustrating. On the bright side, you can yell I told you so every time you are released!”

“Of course. Kara Danvers seeing the bright side in everything,” Lena said with a grin. Kara blushed.

“Well someone has to when your sister is Agent Alex Danvers (she said that in a faux tough voice) and my best friend is Lena Luthor. Your life is depressing and Alex is …Alex,” Kara said.

“Fair point,” chuckled Lena. Kara helped her up and pulled her so she sat on the couch.

“You can rest here and I will make you some soup for your toast as it is only half-eleven and we can watch movies all day,” she left and then called as Lena went to grab her phone. “If you do anything work related I will lock all of your technology thingies in a safe!”

Lena knew that threat was real so settled for taking a picture of Kara as she almost dropped a bowl and posting it online with the caption:

LenaLuthor Kara the Klutz! @karadanvers how have you survived living for 26 years?

She heard Kara’s phone ping and chuckled as she saw the expression on Kara’s face.

Comments:

karadanvers hey! I am not that clumsy! So be quiet and wait for your soup!

AlexD @karadanvers please, you are the most clumsiest person on the planet (and probably beyond)

karadanvers now you’re just being mean

LenaLuthor @karadanvers @AlexD stop blowing my phone with your annoying sisterly arguments

LenaLuthor oh and kara, eyes on the stove before you burn us all!!

Both Alex and Kara responded at the same time

karadanvers hey

AlexD oi

Lena put her phone down and watched Kara again. Just as she looked, she swore she saw Kara blow what looked like cold air on her soup as she poured it in the bowl. The girl winced and Lena rubbed her eyes just as she saw two red lines go into her soup.

Lena felt her head and decided that she was sicker than she thought. No way Kara did that, I so need to cut back my hours, she thought.

(Ps, I am working on the requests being sent in and some of them are around half way done)

also.. fluff warning. there is an awful lot of clingy-ness so I apologize for any ooc stuff. especially with Detective Dimples. yeah, I suck at fluff… I think I go too overboard lol

Chapter Text

Dealing with Death

It was no secret that not all hostage negotiations go according to plan. It was no secret that sometimes police officers get killed in the line of duty. It’s no secret that anything could happen during a shoot out, a house search, or even putting drunks in lockup.

But it still hurts when someone does die. He does hurt when you go to a house search after a concerned call and find an eleven year old boy looking after his two year old son because he parents couldn’t be bothered to look for him when he went missing when he was nine; or an elderly citizen that got robbed.

It still hurts.

“Hey Maggie, how was work? Anything interesting?” Alex asked as she walked into their apartment. The first thing she noticed was that the tv wasn’t on. In fact there was a note (that Alex would find ten minutes later) on the kitchen counter specifically saying do not turn the news on with a few exclamation marks after it. “Mags?” she called again. Alex then turned around and saw Kara (still in her Supergirl suit) was laying on her bed with a small lump besides her. The ‘lump’ was shaking and had a blanket over it; a small mop of brown hair could be seen but that was all she could make out.

“Shh,” Kara whispered. The ‘lump’ (Maggie) whimpered as Kara moved and curled up tighter to her source of comfort. “It’s Alex, Maggie. Alex is home,” Kara whispered to her sister-in-law of a year. Alex dumped her stuff on the floor and walked around to the other side of the bed and laid down fairly close to her wife but away enough so she wasn’t on top of her.

“Hey Mags,” Alex greeted softly. At her voice, Maggie lifted her head up slightly and Alex’s heart broke when she saw her red, puffy eyes and tear marks.

The smaller woman shook again as she suppressed tears before uncurling from Kara’s side (Kara got off the bed and stretched her aching limbs — literally the first time in two hours since the battle down town) and immediately latching onto Alex.

She lay practically on top of her with their legs entwined and Alex’s arms wrapped her body protectively (Alex was slightly propped up against the backboard so there was an angle — she wasn’t laying down fully) while Maggie’s face buried into Alex’s neck. “What’s the matter babe?” Alex asked gently, rubbing her hands up and down Maggie’s back.

Maggie shook her head and clutched onto her more; due to this, Alex sent a look over at Kara. “NCPD got reports of yelling and screaming from a house. She went to have a look and found the parents arguing, apparently they had been doing that for five years now. They were both pushing each other and I think a few hits had happened because the woman had a red mark on her cheek and a bruised eye and the guy had a split lip and looked like a broke nose.

The kids were petrified, Alex, they were so scared. I think their parents were getting a divorce and they were arguing over their kid. Well Maggie’s partner said that there was a loud bang from upstairs, like somebody had fallen on the floor or something, Maggie had rushed upstairs and found their kid – a fourteen year old called Michael – sitting on the floor and getting up. Apparently he had found his dads gun and was turning it on himself. Maggie’s partner heard the bang and got up the stairs to see Maggie cradling the boys body,” Kara recounted. Maggie let out another cry again as she listened to what happened.

Alex had a look of horror on her face as she pulled Maggie further up her body so Maggie could hug her like a koala. “Shh, it’s ok Mags. You gonna make yourself sick if you don’t calm down,” she whispered, pressing a loving kiss on Maggie’s head.

Kara sighed and gave her one last hug and comforting words before leaving them to it. After all, I bet it was bad enough that Maggie let her guard down with ‘Little Danvers’ so I doubt Maggie would want her to  witness it all. Although she did wish that Maggie didn’t have such a tough exterior.

Alex told her that Maggie has a cycle of not letting her emotions show to those she keeps close. When they first started dating and all (most because then Maggie didn’t know about Kara) the secrets were out in the air she remembered Alex trying to help Maggie open up a bit.

It had been ten minutes since Kara left and the two woman hadn’t moved.

“Hey Mags. I need to start dinner babe,” Alex said softly, rubbing her hand down her arm lovingly. Maggie seemed to get what that meant and shook her head. “No? You don’t want dinner?” Maggie lifted her head and went to speak but nothing came out. “Don’t feel like talking Huh?” Alex said mostly to herself. She knew that Maggie would be out of this funk by tomorrow — Alex was the same sometimes.

Alex thought hard. “Okay, how about we compromise?” Alex always made sure her voice was soft and gently (and vise versa) whenever she was feeling like this. “We both go to the kitchen, you can hold my hand while we get all the stuff out, and when I need to hands you can hug me from behind? Yes?” Maggie waited for a few moments, thinking about the pros and cons, before eventually nodding and reluctantly letting Alex sit up.

Once they were off the bed, Maggie grabbed Alex’s hand. Anyone else would have seen it as clingy – after all, it hadn’t even been two seconds since she unwrapped herself from the agent – but Alex knew that Maggie wanted the confirmation that Alex was still here. That she was still alive and not dead in a ditch somewhere with an alien spike sticking out of her or something.

“Do you want pizza? Maybe pasta?” Alex asked with a grin. Maggie shrugged and whispered in Alex’s ear;

“Erm.. just soup please,” Alex had to strain her ears to hear but nodded. She got out the soup and Maggie pointed to the tomato soup out.

“Bread?” Nod. Alex got it out and then shook her hand a bit. Maggie let go and hugged her from behind. “So…” no work talk Alex, “wanna watch a film?” Maggie shook her head.

“Cuddle. Hold,” she mumbled. Alex nodded and put the soup in the microwave (she would make something for herself later) and led Maggie to the sofa. “Bed,” Alex shook her head.

“No, you need soup and there is no way that is going into ma bed.” Maggie smiled at that and chuckled silently. Well done Danvers, Alex thought. Maggie laid her head on Alex’s knee and the DEO agent raked her hand through Maggie’s hair comfortingly.

“I saw the look… in- in his eyes,” Maggie said almost impossibly quietly. Alex frowned and leaned her head down a little so she could hear her. “He was scared- he- he was so scared Alex,” cried Maggie.

“Hey, no more tears. Shh. No more tears Maggie,” Alex said desperately. She hated seeing her wife cry.

Maggie closed her eyes and breathed in. “You know- you know that I used to- to be …y’u know,” she didn’t finish but the way her voice sounded …Alex knew. She knew and that squeezed her heart tightly.

Her wife used to believe that’s he didn’t belong here. Used to believe that it would be better if she wasn’t here. How could this beautiful, amazing woman laying on her have these thoughts? “Maggie Sawyer. You an amazing woman. A- and I am so glad you rose above. I am so glad that you fought through,” Alex whispered. Alex hoped she was saying the things in the correct way; she hadn’t met anyone who had those thoughts before.

Maggie went back to being silent and pressed against Alex again. She flinched when the microwave went off and tried to keep Alex on the sofa when the Agent got up. “I’ve got to get your food Mags,” Alex said as she gently pried Maggie’s death grip on her. Maggie bit her lip and let go of Alex.

When Alex was in the kitchen, she held back a sob as she thought of her wife. If Maggie wasn’t so brave and determined …they may have never met. Ever.

As she got the soup out of the microwave, Maggie turned and looked back to the sofa. Maggie was curled up at the edge of the sofa staring at her reflection in the black tv screen. “Hey, Mags, what do you feel to perhaps heading to Midvale this weekend. You know, just get away?” Alex asked, her voice light and soft.

Maggie turned her attention to Alex (this was good, it meant she was slowly getting her bearings; coming out of shock) and sucked her lip (I have no idea how else to describe that lol) before shrugging. “…. Okay,” she muttered. Alex walked back over and sat down next to her before handing her her soup. Maggie ignored it and rested her head on Alex’s shoulder.

Sighing, Alex got a little bit of soup on the spoon and carefully brought it to Maggie’s lips (after blowing it so it wasn’t too hot).

Maggie turned her head, trying to avoid the spoon, and Alex closed her eyes before counting to ten.

She’s just scared, Alex told herself. That’s why she is acting like this. She isn’t trying to purposely annoy you.

“Come on Maggie. Fast you eat this, the faster we can go to bed. I’ll even give you a bath, yeah?” Alex asked desperately. Maggie made a whine and didn’t move. Rolling her eyes, Alex placed the soup down and turned her head to whisper. “Do I have to call Agent Tickle?” Maggie furrowed her eyes brows (not that Alex could see) and said;

“Who that?”

Alex turned really quickly and got Maggie on her lap before tickling her mercilessly. Maggie squealed (Yep, she squealed) and tried to squirm out of Alex’s lap. “Are you going to eat your dinner Detective?” Alex asked with one eyebrow raised.

“Mmhmm,” Maggie mumbled, tears in the corner of her eyes from all the laughing she did. The Latina sat up and grabbed the soup — still in Alex’s lap. “…erm, wan-wanna watch crim- criminal mmmm-mi- minds?” she asked quietly. Alex smiled, she was talking in proper sentences (the stutter wasn’t important, she was coming back from a horrible experience, so Alex didn’t care that her amazing wife had a little trouble getting her words out) and she wanted to watch telly.

“Sure can,” Alex then switched the tv on. Maggie placed her half eaten bowl of soup down and laid her head down on Alex’s lap.

She looked up and saw that Alex was falling asleep so she let out a small smile and focused on watching at least three episodes before moving to the bed.

Alex isn’t sure why, but she suddenly wakes up during the night. It’s pitch black and the only light coming from the countless ones outside, the sound of cars the only noise for ages.

Then she heard it.

A whimper.

Alex was kicked and she winced before looking next to her and saw Maggie. She was almost drenched in sweat and kept flinching in her sleep and whimpering. “Maggie?” Alex called sleepily. “Get up. You’re having a nightmare,” she mumbled. A small cry of ‘no! don’t leave me papa’ tumbled out of her mouth and that woke Alex up immediately.

She leaned over and brought the girl (how can you see her any older than a scared child when she is crying, sobbing even, thrashing in her sleep and calling for her father) into her arms and pressed a kiss to her head. Alex rocked her gently and kept pressing kisses around her face. “Maggie. Wake up,”

“No. Please. I’m sorry Papa. ¡Lo siento! ¿Por favor!” she cried. Alex started to shake her a little and she opened her eyes; wildly searching for anything she could recognise.

“Hey! Hey,” Alex said soothingly. Maggie searched her eyes and they locked. Tears dripping off her chin and she hugged Alex. “Wanna talk about it?” Alex asked, staring off into the darkened mess as she raked through Maggie’s brown hair.

There was a pause and Alex assumed Maggie had fallen back asleep …but then she said;

“It was- was so hhhhor- h- horrible Alex,” she cried. Alex rubbed her back with her other hand and whispered in her ear comforting words. “Hhhhe was so young an- and he had a bright future ‘head of him. He llloked so scccared!”

“Shh, I hope you don’t blame yourself Maggie. That boy had suffered for so long because his parents didn’t know how to be civil. At least the last thing he saw was the compassion you no doubt had in your eyes,” Alex said firmly. Maggie lay there, shuddering breaths audible for a few moments.

“I- I know your won—dering. ‘Bout what I sssaid before. ‘Bout me,” she whispered that last part. Alex stayed silent before admitting that she was but didn’t want to cross any boundaries, especially with how fragile she was at the moment. “I was fffffourteen. Fi- five months after my dad chucked me- chucked me out. I …I was sad, sc- scared and I didn’t why I had shamed him,” she said quietly.

Alex listened intently, glad that she was opening up talking a bit more normal now.

“My aunt tried her- tried her bbbest to make me fffeel better but I wan- wanted my Mama and Papa; y- you know?” Alex nodded and gave her a kiss on the head. “Well, I actually hid my sexuality from then- then on. Despite sss- still being in Neb- Nebraska, we were a little out of- of Blue Springs so- so I changed schools. I was picked on for being n- non-white and I had had enough. I g- googled least painful ways and then- then I took my auntsthe ibuprofen and- and swallowed a lethal amount,” she explained sadly.

“And seeing the kid actually die brought back memories,” mused Alex. Maggie nodded and snuggled back into Alex’s body. “I am so sorry you felt like that Mags. Do you- do you still feel like that?” Alex asked nervously.

Maggie was silent, thinking about the best reply. She felt herself calming down now after the events at the Jackson house so she made sure to talk carefully so she wouldn’t stutter. “Not all the time. Sssometimes I will have quick thoughts after a- a hard day but then I think of you. Of my li- life here. Even Kara with her dork- dorkiness. You have helped me so much Lexie,” Alex smiled at that and went further down the covers and Alex moved Maggie down onto the bed so Maggie’s head lay on her arm; curled up in Alex’s side. “I think … I think I wanna go sleep now Lexie,”

Alex nodded and pulled Maggie in a bit more protectively. “I love you Maggie Sawyer-Danvers,”

"Te amo, Alex Sawyer Danvers, Mi Amor," Maggie said sleepily. When she was sure Maggie was fast asleep, Alex murmured lovingly;

"I will always protect you. For as long as I live. Whether we are still together years from now, I will always protect you!"

I can do a kind of p2 which is Maggie looking after Alex?

Chapter 8: Chapter 8 (p1)

Notes:

"For a prompt, I could really use a Sanvers fix-it. Maggie runs into Sentinel during a battle and of course she knows it's Alex. They talk/reconnect and then once they'ee officially dating again or on a one month anniversary , Maggie gifts Alex with a mask, like the one Arrow wears, because that blue eyeshadow isn't a great disguise." ~ someone on AO3.

now, I am putting this in 2 parts. this is part 1

Chapter Text

Alex hopped off her bike as soon as Supergirl landed, "Ah damnit. Draw again," the Kryptonian muttered as she flipped her hair out her way. Alex smirked and tapped her bike in a smug way. Supergirl rolled her eyes and playfully bashed Alex's shoulder with her own; Alex winced and grabbed her shoulder when Supergirl walked by. She did that on purpose. "So, have you heard from Kelly?" Kara asked as they walked into the building.

Alex didn't looked at her sister. "Erm, not since I last heard from her. Which was two weeks ago," she replied nonchalantly. Supergirl nodded slowly.

"So you haven't heard anything from your girlfriend since a text that said 'I have to go home for a bit' and you are still hoping she is going to text you," Kara replied with her eyebrow raised. Alex clenched her jaw and walked a bit faster.

"I am not hopingshe is going to text me," Alex said in a matter of fact. Kara nodded and went 'mmm'.

"So, if I grabbed your phone now and unlocked it, it won't open up on WhatsApp on Kelly?" Kara asked knowingly. Alex didn't reply and instead walked away from her Kryptonian sister. Kara chuckled and caught up with her.

The recon didn't do much. All it did was tell the two girls that their assailant loved Big Belly Burger and Vodka ("that doesn't mean they are Russian Kara!") and they either were married or used to be. "How did it go Agent Danvers?" J'onn asked as they walked into the DEO.

"We found out our guy is-" Kara was interrupted by a tired Alex.

"Kara, don't even finish that sentence." Kara piped down and started to fiddle with her fingers. "Thank you. Apart from the fact our guy loves take out and booze, nothing. He wasn't in," Alex answered. J'onn looked pissed as he turned back to the controls.

Kara lifted her head off and zoomed out the balcony, almost making Alex fall over if J'onn hadn't of caught her. "What was that for?" she asked in almost a sigh, she really wasn't in a good mood.

"Robbery downtown," called an Agent. Alex nodded and then headed off to see it. Maybe get some action in as well.

When she got there (clad in her suit), Alex saw her sister getting a beat down. Alex's eyes went wide and she rushed over, forming an electronic baton in her hand and whacking them with it. They went flying by the sheer force Alex hit them with. Alex kneeled down by Kara. "What happened? You getting beat by humans now?" she joked weakly.

Kara chuckled horsely. "Yeah when they have Kryptonite," Alex moved her hair out her eyes. Alex felt like somebody was staring at her and lifted her head up to see a tanned woman in jeans and a tank and jacket staring at her with wide eyes. Alex quickly evaded her eyes and helped Kara up.

"Come on space puppy," Alex hefted her up. "Let's get you to the DEO,"

While it was happening, there was one woman who was helping everyone get up and escape. "Ah," yelled a woman (over loads of yelling) and the certain woman helped her up and pushed her to the way she needed to go.

"Go, quick- quick— get out!" she yelled over the noise. She turned to the left and caught sight of the man flying to the side and a woman in blue with a blue hood turning back around to kneel next to Kara— Supergirl! She reminded herself. She stopped moving and stared at the woman in blue; her eyes covered in blue paint.

The woman lifted her head up and their eyes met. She knew who this was. Even from a distance, she knew who this blue clad woman was simply by looking into the eyes of the love of her life. Deep down she knew. Quickly, the woman in blue tore her eyes away and helped Supergirl off the ground.

"Alex," she murmured. It was like seeing a ghost.

At the DEO, Alex was sat in the chair as Kara slept under the sun lamps. It couldn't have been. Right? She has been gone for around two or three years so why now? Why National City?

"Earth to Agent Danvers!" Alex startled and stared at J'onn. "Are you okay Alex?"

Alex nodded but didn't say anything. "Liar," murmured a quiet voice. They turned and saw Kara waking up. "I know who you saw. I heard her and I heard her heartbeat," she added.

Alex groaned and let her head fall backwards. "Who?"

"Maggie," both sisters said at the same time.

"Ah," J'onn said. "I shall leave you to it then. Glad you're okay Kara," he then walked out.

"Why is Maggie in National City?" Alex asked as soon as the Martian left. Kara shrugged.

"I don't know!" she exclaimed with a confused look on her face. Kara waited a minute before adding. "Want me to find out?" Alex stared at her hands for a moment. Did she want her sister to spy on her ex-fiancé? Was that weird? Controlling perhaps?

"No- yes. Yes," Alex said. Kara went to run off when Alex grabbed her arm with a panicked look. "Actually no! Don't!" Kara chuckled and stopped going to walk. Alex let go of her arm and groaned; her head banging on the lab counter.

Kara laughed and patted Alex's shoulder before walking out. Alex groaned again and rested her clasped hands on the back of her neck.

Maggie walked into the precinct and met with the chief of the department. "Ah, Detective Sawyer!" he greeted, shaking her hand. She shook it back and let out a smile; her dimples showing proudly.

"Chief Frank, thank you for thinking of me in your scouring for a detective. I hope I can help," she said with a smile. Richard smiled back and they let go.

"Yes, well, you have quite the reputation around here Detective Sawyer. I have heard amazing stories of your partnership with Alex Danvers, was it? The FBI agent if the stories are true," Maggie's smile faltered a little and she let out a hesitant smile.

Truth be told, she missed Alex. She missed having someone to talk to. She missed having someone to confide in, to laugh with. Most of all, she loved the feeling of solving a case with her and going into battle with her — like when they were against the Daxamites or when Maggie helped her find her dad. The thing about Alex herself that she missed was how it felt to kiss her and hug her.

All in all, she missed everything that came with Alexandra Caroline Danvers. Even the family and friends.

"Yes," Maggie said suddenly, remembering that she was at NCPD precinct with her boss for the time being. "Erm, Special Agent Alex Danvers. That- that was her name," she stuttered. Richard raised an eyebrow at her stuttering.

"God, did you guys date or something?" he asked jokingly. Maggie turned red and shoved her hands in her pocket. "You did! Is that why you moved away," he motioned for her to walk and talk.

"Erm, kind of yeah. We- well she broke up and I didn't exactly want to stay here but Gordon sent me an email asking if I wanted to transfer to Gotham PD. I thought it was a great chance," Maggie said truthfully. Richard nodded and opened his door for her to walk through.

On his desk sat a badge and a gun with two amo clips and paper work. "Right. Here is your badge you'll use for however long we need you. Your gun, amo, and this is the paper you need to sign for your gun to be legal. Here y'are," he muttered offhandedly.

Maggie signed it before clipping her badge to her black jeans and tucking her gun into the waistband of her jeans. "When is my first shift?" she asked as she looked at him again.

Richard scratched his head and thought, "Uh. Thursday at 7am to 3pm. We'll start you at an 8 hour shift so you can get reused to all ying and yang here. I will have one of the other detective's hand you all of our research tomorrow so you can get up to date,"

After Maggie left, she headed over to the dive bar. It had been ages since she had been in there and she wanted the memories back. Just not those memories.

As she got to the entrance, she spotted a familiar black bike parked in the shadows. The same one Alex rode the first time they went to the bar.

Taking a deep breath, she hopes to all gods on earth (including Kara's god, Rao) that Alex (or any of the Superfriends) would see her. All she wanted was a few drinks in the best bar she had been too. Catch up with a few folks.

Once she got inside, Maggie saw that they were sat at their usual place in the bar and that Brainy was walking away to no doubt order drinks. Maggie found that she couldn't take her eyes off of the back of someone's head. She knew it was Alex. How could she not?

Alex started to laugh at something Kara said. Her head went back and she took another sip of her beer only for James to say something else and Alex began to choke on her drink. The raven haired CEO slapped her on the back and Maggie watched, envious, as their faces lit up.

She missed them all.

"Hey!" fingers snapped in front of her face and Maggie was brought back to a bartender snapping her fingers. "Yes, hello. God, are you drunk already?"

Maggie glared at her. "No. I would like a double scotch," she said bitterly. She shoved the memories out harshly and waited impatiently for her drink.

"Thanks James. Thanks for almost killing me," Alex muttered as she stopped choking. Kara and Lena were laughing while Brainy looked concerned for Agent Danvers. James was holding in a laugh he oh so badly wanted to let out.

"Please. You were never going to die Alex," Kara passed it off with a wave of her hand. Alex rolled her eyes with a murmur of how she loved the love she was getting and how Kara was a great sister. "I'm your only sister," Kara chuckled.

Alex shrugged. "Eh. Lena would be my sister if one of you got your women balls checked and proposed," this time Kara turned red and spat her drink out while Lena simply spat hers out back in her bottle again as the liquid was halfway to her lips. "What? Wow you two a perfect match," she grumbled depressingly.

Kara's eyes snapped over to the far end of the bar and her drink stopped halfway to her mouth. The club sofa almost falling out her glass as the straw fluttered to the table pathetically. Her eyebrows were furrowed and by the change in her glasses she could tell she was listening.

Alex turned around just as the door shut to the bar but her sisters random behaviour was temporarily forgotten about as her phone chimed. She quickly grabbed for it as the chime was the alert she put on the SuperFriends contacts.

It was Kelly!

She turned her phone on the saw the notific— oh, it was J'onn. Kara watched her sisters face drop drastically when she read the message and she slowly put her phone down with a downcast look on her face. Kara sent her an encouraging smile but it fell short.

Maggie felt someone stare at her and she looked up to see Kara's blue eyes bore into her. They had a staring contest for what seemed like ages until Maggie quickly finished her drink and walked out the bar. She only caught a glimpse of the girl of her dreams turning over before the metal door slammed shut; leaving her alone outside.

To make matters worse, it started to rain. "Oh come on!" she muttered angrily. She kicked the wall and groaned in pain. The door opened and Maggie quickly turned around to find Kara. "Maggie. It is you," she said excitedly. Maggie's eyes were wide. She knew that she would eventually have to talk to Kara when she was Supergirl it if they crossed at a crime scene when Kara was a reporter but she didn't expect it to be this soon.

"Yeah, hey L- little Danvers. Alex it's the following you out is she?" Maggie asked nervously. She couldn't speak to both Danvers girls on her first day being back in National City. No way.

Kara shook her head and looked a little sheepish. "I told her I was going to the little Aliens room," Maggie let out an amused huff before slowly walking back to her bike.

"Look, I gotta go. See 'ya around Lil'Danvers," Maggie said before she got on her bike and drove off.

Kara watched in silence. Sadness loomed over her as she realised Maggie didn't want to talk to Alex ( At least not yet ) or her for that matter. "Yeah," she whispered. "Bye,"

Supergirl Oneshot 9:

Game Night

The Superfriends had this tradition. Every week they would have game night. Everyone had to be there or it would be rescheduled. For a while it was just Kara, Alex, Winn and James. Then it was Kara, Alex, Winn, James and Maggie. Then Hank started to come over. Mon-El was then invited.

Then, instead of joining, people left.

Maggie. James. Winn

However, they gained people as well.

Lena Luthor. Nia Nal. Querl Dox ( Brainiac 5 ). Kelly Olsen.

Then Kara was sucked back into the phantom zone and nobody did game night. Partly because one of the rules was that everybody had to be present and also because they were worried sick about Kara and all the phantoms were roaming National City.

Tomorrow was the day the members of the Superfriends in National City (because, let's be honest, James, Maggie, Mon-El and Winn are still Superfriends) and in 2021 were free.

"Kara! Kara open up!" Alex complained as she banged on Kara's door. "Kara! I swear to god. We are having game night at Lena's house next week!"

Kara super sped to the door and opened it to show a very disgruntled Alex and an amused Kelly with Lena, Nia and Brainy lingering behind. "Calm down Alex. We don't always have to have it here. It's just where we've always had it. For years," she said, adding the emphasis.

Alex rolled her eyes and walked past her sister before setting the drinks on the kitchen counter. "Why is it always Alex that brings the drinks?" Lena asked. It was just something she picked up. Ever since her first night she saw that Alex was always the one who came with the booze.

"Because Alex is picky!" replied Kelly. Alex looked over at her and Kelly just gave her a 'you know you love me' look. Alex smirked and sat on the sofa with her arm around Kelly.

Kara super sped again and handed everyone a drink and ordered the usual game night feast from their favourite takeaway place.

"What game first?" Nia asked.

"I think J'onn is bringing frustration," mused Kara as she floated to a sit on the floor. "Before I left the DEO today he told me he was going to be a little late. He also said he'd pick up dinner on his way here, hence why I ordered earlier,"

"You're cheating!" accused Alex as she glared at her sister.

"How!?" Kara asked, her hands going out.

"B- because you are! You always do!"

"Do not!"

"Do too!"

"You're just a sore loser!" Kara shot back; Alex looked at like she just killed her puppy.

"Sore loser? Kara! You used your freeze breath at least twice when the die landed on a bad number for you!" the others all looked at each other with wide eyes and blank looks.

Here we go again.

"Hey, hey! Let's put snakes and ladder back then. How about monopoly?" suggested Kelly.

Kara groaned. "Lena is so going to win," she muttered.

"How am I broke after going around the board a total of ten times?!" Lena yelled in outrage. Kara sniggered; even she was doing better than Lena.

Brainy looked very proud of himself; he had at least two hotels on the board. Alex had given up around 4 minutes into the game — she landed on jail more times than she had in real life. Well, she'd been in a holding cell a few times for drunk and disorderly when she was in collage. Still a cell whether it's jail or not.

"Because you keep landing on Brainy's hotels! Why aren't you investing?!" Kara asked.

"Because I have no money," Lena almost whined. Everyone laughed at Lena. She was practically pouting. She saw something in the corner of her eye. Kara was slowly moving a real 10$ note in front of her face. "Very funny Kara," Lena said in monotone. Kara laughed and put the dollar back in her purse.

J'onn knocked on the door but got no reply.

"Hey! No! Move your right foot!" he heard Kara say.

"I can't!" Alex snapped.

He phased through the door just in time to see Alex's foot give way and she fell to the door with a thump. "Ow," she groaned. "No, no, no!" she started to yell when she saw Nia's knee buckle.

Suddenly, everyone collapsed on-top of the agent.

"KARA!" yelled Alex. Kara sucked in her lips and slowly backed away from the pile of ( very-much-alive but-it's-unknown-for-how-long ) bodies. She bumped into J'onn and he saw the relief on her face.

"Foods here!" she yelled. Kara swooped all fhe bags and put them on the coffee table or before helping untangle everyone.

"Frustration after dinner?" J'onn questioned.

"Yep," Kara said with a grin on her face. She pretending not to notice Alex glaring at her.

Regrets of the Past

Regrets of the Past

They say daughters need their mothers,

But but what can i do,

My mother is the anger in my words,

The words in my silence.

My mother is the pain in my tears,

The ghost in my smile.

My mother,

Is the hurt in my heart,

The fear in my bones.

My mother,

Is the voice in my head,

That claws at my mind.

My mother,

That is supposed to mould me. build me

Broke me.

 - SoulUnraveled

It’s funny how memory works, you know. Someone could not remember what they had for dinner last Sunday but could remember what they had for dinner on their graduation day, or the first thing they did on their wedding day. See, the point it, you’re more likely to remember something if it was important. If it meant something.

So why didn’t Lillian remember what happened on October 24th?

When Lionel had died, she never stepped foot in his office. It was completely out of bounds; not even Lex was allowed in. However, one comment from Tesmacher made her rethink everything. So she went into her late husbands study and had a nosy. All she found was dusty books and half finished business letters.

That’s when she found a black book in a secret hole in his draw. Curiously, she picked it up.

Now she wished she hadn’t.

October 26th, 1993

Dear diary,

I’ve messed up. I can’t believe what i’ve done. It had to be done though; or else Liz was going to tell Lillian about my affair. I’m not one for letting my feelings out, much less on paper, but I have to get this out before I explode.

Liz can’t have children, see, and she heard that Lillian was pregnant with my child. She she gave me an ultimatum. I give her my child, or she spills to the press (and my wife) of my infidelity. I’m sorry, but I can’t loose my wife. I can conceive another child but there is only one Lillian. I won’t feel all that horrified by it because I don’t have a bond with the child yet.

 - Lionel

Lillian had a vague idea about what was happening but she didn’t know why she couldn’t remember.

Then she read the next entry:

October 28th, 1993

Dear Diary,

It’s done. Lillian was distraught when the doctors told her the news and I hated seeing her like that. Even Lex shed a few tears. I have her in my cottage at the moment with a butler. Mrs Walsh is meeting me tonight to hand her over.

I just need to help my wife through the ‘death’ of our baby girl.

I will never forgive myself for this.

 - Lionel

That’s when she understood. Her baby girl didn’t die. Her sweet Charlotte wasn’t a stillborn. She was very much alive. In fact, she was in National City playing superhero with the alien. Lillian looked at the tv where the news was on.

“And I am proud to present that L-Corp will be donating three million dollars to the hospital paediatric ward for Christmas,” Lena announced. Lillian stared at the face of the young woman as the camera focused on her smiling face. A tear ran down her cheek as she really looked into the eyes of the CEO.

That was Charlotte. That was her baby. That’s the woman she has hated for years, ever since she showed up in the library 24 years ago.

“Oh my god,” she mumbled, falling onto the sofa. What had she done? All that neglect and verbal abuse she spewed on her daughter. All those years she’ll never get back. All them years she could have been making memories with her only daughter and she spent them bringing her down and faffing over Lex all the time.

More tears fell down her cheeks as she remember countless christmas’ (once when Lionel was away) and the only present Lena would get would be 30$ from Lex and a small present from the school Secret Santa — the 30$ from Lex would be knocked down to 10$ when she would buy something for the secret santa.

Lillian grabbed her phone and filed her daughters name. She hesitated but ended up dropping her phone next to her.

What had she done?

This was nothing like they had fought before. Not even J’onn had heard of this alien before. That’s why what happened came at a shock. What happened was not expected at all.

“W’o dat?” the little girl asked, pointing to the gun ( that was huge in comparison to her now-small hand ) she was holding. Kara’s eyes widened in shock and she quickly yanked the gun out of her hand. The little girl geared up and started crying. “I-i-it not nice’a snatch!” she whined.

Kara was at a loss. What the hell?

“Erm… J’onn. We have a situation,” Kara said as she looked at the little girl again. She had stopped with the crickadike tears now and was instead playing football with the small piece of debris on the ground.

What is it Supergirl?” he asked.

“Something has happened to Alex and I don’t know want to do. She is now smaller and- and fast— oh Rao, she is really fast!” J’onn heard wind rush and so he assumed she used her super speed to catch up.

Just get back here

“No! Ag- Alex. Alex stay still!” said the doctor as she tried to look over the small child.

“No! I won’ du’ ‘s’ ge’wl!” Alex instead as she crossed her arms. “She w’uks w’ike my sister!”

The doctor and Hank shared a look. It sounded all weird. The things she did remember weren’t consistent with a steady timeline. She looked around 4 but she remembers Kara yet she doesn’t remember that Kara is the ‘S girl’.

“How about, I’ll get the ‘S girl’ if you let the nice doctor check you out,” bribed J’onn. Little Alex grinned brightly and nodded her head.

“Yes! Yes! Yes!” she said excitedly, jumping up and down on the examination table.

“Sit down then,” J’onn said, hiding a laugh. Alex nodded dramatically and plonked herself down before crossing her arms and letting the docket check her ears and eyes.

J’onn found Kara in the training room with her head in her arms.

“How come you’re down here and your sister is up there?” he asked casually. Despite her super hearing, Kara jumped and looked at J’onn in a panic. She calmed when she realised it was only J’onn.

She shrugged, “Don’t want to get in the way,” she mumbled.

“Hey, I know I am an alien too, but I don’t have super hearing. Speak up,” he joked. Kara didn’t even have the energy to look at him, let alone laugh.

“I don’t think I could handle if she can’t remember me,” she whispered, a tear falling down her cheek. J’onn sighed and sat next to her.

“She won’t stay that way forever,” he said, taking her softer tone. “We will change her back,”

“Mm. But how long will that take?” she asked rhetorically. “I wouldn’t even be able to last a week knowing that my sister doesn’t remember me,”

“Then it’s a good luck she remembers her Kara,” J’onn revealed with a smile. Kara looked at him with a grin on his face.

“Yeah?” J’onn nodded and Kara genuinely looked happy.

“But she doesn’t know you’re Supergirl,” J’onn added.

Kara’s grin faltered, “What?”

“I’m the med bay. She was wondering where the the ‘S girl’ was and that’s he looked like her sister,” Kara closed her eyes and rested it on J’onns shoulder.

“How do I do this J’onn?” she asked. J’onn didn’t know what to say. How were they going to turn her back to normal? Was Alex going to stay as a four year old forever?

When they both arrived in Alex’s room, the de-aged Hero saw Lara and started to clap. “Yesss!” she said with a huge, toothy smile. “Wahooo! Hey! Hey! Did you know that my w’oom is gon’ be ‘WED! N’ there is gonna be b’ack and—”

“Hey Alex?” interrupted Kara. The little girl stopped her word vomit and looked at Supergirl.

“Yeah-ah?”

“How do you feel about coming home with me for a little bit?” she asked. Alex looked like he was considering it when she got nervous.

“Bu’ wha’bout my mommy n’ sis’er — Kawa?” she asked with a frown.

“Your mommy was amazing and said that you could stay with me for a little bit. While she gets your sister sorted,” Kara answered quickly. Alex frowned and moved closer to them, she studied her face before breaking out into a smile.

“Ooh yes. Do you want to live with Supergirl?” asked J’onn.

“Otay!”

Kara cast a glance at J’onn; how was this going to be expmained to Maggie?

“Are you sure you can handle this?” J’onn asked as he helped Kara hold the booster seat.

“Yep!” Kara announced optimistically. He looked suspicious but nodded and left.

Kara opened the door and the four year old walked in first. “You has a nice home Super,” the little girl said. Kara chuckled.

“Do I?”

“Yep!” Alex then started to run and have a look all over the house for things to do.

“Colouring book?” she offered, sitting Alex down and giving her a colouring book with an assortment of colouring pencils. .

The door was knocked on Kara used her super speed to change into Kara. Alex raised her eyebrows but got bored and went back to colouring in. “Why did J’onn wish me good luck as I walked up the stairs?” Kara winced and let Lena in. “Oh…”

Alex had dropped the pencil and was hanging off the end of the table like a monkey. Her legs were wrapped around the pile under the table and her hands were held onto the edge of it. “Alex Danvers!” Kara yelled. She super sped over and picked the hit up bettor she could fall and hurt herself. Alex started laughing.

“Again! Again!” she begged.

Kara scoffed and placed her on the sofa. “Haha. As if!” Alex pouted and moved away from Kara. “Aw shit!”

“Hhh!” Alex yelled after hearing the older girl swear. “You says a nor’e (naughty) word!”

“Oh no. I’m sorry,” Kara apologized.

“Is al’wight. At home, we had a swearin’ jaw. You say a s’ear word n’den you have to put a dollar in’da- da’-da—”

“Jar?” suggested Kara.

“Yes! How did you know?” she asked with a ligh.

“Well, little girl, we don’t have a jar but I can just buy an ice cream every time?” she suggested. Alex have a cute, high pitched voice.

“Deal!” she said really, really loudly.

Kara looked at the microwave, 6:50pm. If Kara remembered correctly, Kenny said that his cousin used to go to bed at this time when he was a baby. Maybe she should put Alex to bed?

“Alex, baby?” she called.

“Yeah Kawa?” she replied.

“Wan’ go bed byes?” she asked sweetly. Alex stuck her nose up at it.

“NO!” she then ran off and sat on the sofa.

“Listen, it’s nearly 7pm. You need to go sleep,” Alex still rushed and started to kick her legs when Kara picked her up.

“No! No! No!” she screamed, kicking her legs. She caught Kara so many times but she didn’t fe anything.

“Alex! Stop It! You’ve been good all day! What’s wrong now?” Kara asked; why did people have so many kids? Alex crossed her arms and let Kara carry her to the bed. Kara sighed and checked the time. Lena should be back any time now ( she had left to go by  some rails to put either side of the bed so there isn’t a chance of Alex falling out of bed ) so they were going to watch a movie when Alex went to sleep.

Alex whimpered and clung onto Kara. “I don’t wanna see du’ mons’ers,” she whimpered. Kara’s heart broke at her sisters little pout and sad eyes.

“I’ll be there with you,” she assured her.

“Nooo *crie* p’ease no! S’sy ‘wake!” she cried. Kara cradled her and tucked side to side. What was going on?

“Sssh,” she comforted.

“I don’ won’ to go s’eepies Super. If- If I do… ‘den all du’ baddies come out n- n ‘tack me! I don’t wike dat’!” she said adamantly, getting louder and firmer.

Maybe she had some of her adult memories and some of them include memories of battles with aliens. Now that Alex has, essentially, been deaged, her mind is immature; her mind is a baby meaning little things can scare her and that all the monsters her adult counterpart faced… will do their usual show in Alex’s nightmares… they also show in baby Alex.

“Kara! I’m back!” Lena called. That was the final straw. Alex jumped and started crying.

“Sssh. Calm down Alex,” she whispered, rubbing the back of the young girl. Alex kept crying and snuggling into her. That’s when Kara’s phone rang.

“Oh for fu("agahah" cried Alex) sake!" Kara yelled out — she was sleep deprived and gettingg overwhelmed with everything.

"I’ve got it Kar," Lena said softly, pulling her in for a gentle hug.

[ Maggie: ] hey Kara

Do you know where Alex is?

I have tried

Ringing

Texting

And none of them worked

I’m worried

Lena told her what it said and so Kara told her to send something back.

[ You ] Hi Maggie. It’s Lena. I think you best come over to Kara’s apartment as it’s a little bit […] complicated

[ Maggie ] Lena?

okay

I’ll be there in 10 mins

“Maggie is on her way,” Lena called.

“Huh? Maggie?” Alex called, wandering into the living room area from behind the curtain at the bed.

Kara came out behind her, “Yeah. Erm… she’s a friend,” she replied half heartedly. Alex looked at her oddly.

“I wuuuuuuv Maggie,” she said with a fond look in her eyes. Kara and Lena caught each other’s eye and then both looked at Alex. “Wot? She is sooooo pwetty an’ kind an’- an’ pwetty— wait, I ‘ready said that!” she then laughed and sat on the sofa with her little legs swinging back and forth.

“Alex, can you please get into bed?” Kara begged.

“No! I don’ wanna see baddies AND I wan’ see Mags!” she yelled and then sat on the sofa with a smug look at Kara’s defeated one.

“You haven’t looked after a toddler, have you?” Lena asked with an amused look.

Kara sighed, “I looked after Kal—” she stopped talking. Lena still didn’t she was Supergirl. Rao. “I looked after my little cousin but he was only a baby. Like, one years old. When my parents died, I was out into foster care and I never saw Callum until a couple years ago,” Kara hated lying to Lena but she couldn’t tell her. It would be too much a risk for Lena. Lena gave her a sad look whichh Kara waved off; she didn’t deserve the sympathy. While her story wasn’t completely wrong, it still felt awful to lie to her best friend.

They heard Alex laugh. Looking down, they saw she had found a robot? Oh crap. It was an old Kryptonion robot from the Fortress of Solitude.

“You have a robot… under your coffee table?” Lena questioned. “How have I never seen that before?”

Quick Kara, think!

“It’s from Alex’s work. We got a little too drunk a couple days ago and we decided to mess around with It. Guess I forgot it was there,” Kara said with a nervous laugh and a neck scratch. Lena looked suspicious but accepted it.

There was a knock on the door and Kara opened it to find a frazzled Maggie. She stormed through despite Kara’s calls.

“Wait. Maggie wait—” but it fell on deaf ears.

“Where is my girlfri..end…” it trailed off at the end when she saw a little girl kneeling on the sofa staring at her. “Uh.. hi,” she said with a shocked wave.

“Hewo Mags!” she said enthusiastically with a big, cheeky grin. Maggie pivoted to see Kara face palm and then to the side to see Lena with her head buried in her arms on the kitchen table. “Do you wan’ colour wif’ me?” she asked innocently, clambering off the sofa to grab the coulding book off Kara’s bedside table.

“I will definitely colour with you… I just need to talk to Kara,” she replied.

“Otay,” Alex replied, walking back to the living room.

Maggie walked over to the kitchen and glared at the two younger woman. “What. On. Any. Planet. Happened?!” she ground out. Lena bit her lip and sent a look at Kara who was fiddling with ber glasses. “No? It’s fine, I’ll ask J’onn..”

“Okay, okay. We don’t know what happened,” Kara replied. She cast a subtle glance at Lena. “J’onn and Supergirl came over and said that they were fighting a weird alien and… poof,” she said with actions. Maggie groaned and rubbed her head.

“Maggie! Hu’wy uuuuup!” whined the four year old. Maggie shot them daggers (“It wasn’t my fault! I’m not even that close to this Shaun guy!” Lena protested. “Lee, it’s ‘Zh-on’. Like ‘John’ but with the ‘Zh’,” Kara supplied. “Not helpful Kar,” the woman muttered) and walked to Alex. “Yaaaaay!”

“What are we colouring in?” Maggie asked, sitting cross-legged on the floor. Alex kneeled down and handed Maggie a dark blue Crayola crayon.

“Hmm… you do dis side n’ I’ll do dis one!” she said, pointing to the picture of the house and a sun and grass along with an assortment of garden activities. Maggie said ‘ok’ and started to colour in the pool in blue. Alex started colouring in her picture (a rocket ship in space) with yellow for stars. Maggie grabbed the green crayon for the grass when Alex grabbed it out her hands.

“What was that for?” she asked, not realising she was starting an argument with a (technically) four year old over a wax crayon.

“No! Not ‘lowed g’een! G’een is bad! G’een hurt Kawa!” she shouted, getting louder. Maggie looked shocked at the outburst and her face didn’t change when she lobbed the green crayon and it ended up nearly assassinating Lena. “So even four year olds have it out for me,” she joked, getting it off the floor.

“Alex! We don’t throw things,” she scolded. Alex looked sad but ran to Kara and hugged her legs.

“Bu’ Kawa. G’een is bad! It hurts you!” she insisted. Kara could see she was getting distressed and her memories were all jumbled. “It hurts you,” she whispered tearfully.

“What’s she talking about Kara?” Lena asked. Lena put the coloured crayon back on the coffee table. Kara bent down and picked Alex up, the little one wrapping her small legs around Kara’s waist and her arm around Kara’s neck — her left arm was kept close to her body becausee Alex started sucking her thumb. Kara didn’t know what to do so she started sweating side to side — it’s something she saw her aunt do with Kal-El.

Maggie frowned and stood up ( her knees definitely click ). “Is she talking about krypto?” she whispered. Kara nodded. She rubbed her head and walked over to the fridge.

“Why was Alex saying green would hurt you?” she asked.

Kara shook her head, great, another lie, “Just something that happened when we were watching younger. I was ambushed after school once by this guy on the football team. Him and the whole team sprayed me with paint balls. They were green,” again, not the whole truth…

( the paint was a mix of red and orange )

Lena pulled her in for a hug but Kara could feel her heart pounding with every second this day went on. “Kar, she’s asleep,” Lena suddenly said. Kara took a small glance and saw Alex fast asleep with her thumb still in her mouth. Kara floated a little and glided over to her bed before setting the toddler down and setting cushions either side.

Kara walked back to the front and collapsed on the sofa. “I am never having kids,” she complained.

Chemistry, or Chemistry?

Kara and Alex got off the bus and made their way to the front entrance. “I can’t believe mom wouldn’t let me drive to school,” Alex complained.

“She said you could drive at the start of the next school year,” Kara explained for the umpteenth time that week. “She’s paid for me and you to use the bus. So use it,”

Kara then walked ahead to meet Winn leaving Alex at the front door, holding her bag by one strap. Alex sighed and gripped her bag strap tighter. What a day this was going to be.

Alex sat down in the lesson and her head immediately got rested on her hand. What a bore. Who even liked science? Alex preferred languages. All of Alex’s sciences teachers said she excelled at the lesson — her biology teacher said she particularly better in that area.

“Ms Danvers!” came the loud and sharp voice of Mr Tackley. She snapped out of her day dream and heard the class snigger — she caught Kara’s eye and found her sister was trying not to laugh.

“Hello..” Alex replied nervously.

Mr Tackley sighed and rubbed his face. “What I was saying, Alex, was that we are going to be doing a five week long experiment. This requires lab partners. You will pull your partners name out of the hat. In alphabetical order…” Alex groaned; what twat was she going to be partnered with.

“Danvers, Alex.”

Alex walked over and pulled out paper from the hat, she unfolded it and read out a name of a person she couldn’t remember. “Erm, Maggie Sawyer?” she saw a tan girl lift her head up from the desk and then walk over and sit in the empty seat next to Alex. “Hi,”

“Hey,”

“Danvers, Kara.” he called

Alex watched Kara walk up to the front and yank a white slip out the hat. A grin formed on her face. “Winn!”

“Oh how convenient,” scoffed the brunette.

“Why, who’s Winn?” Maggie asked. Alex jumped slightly as she forgot Maggie was even there.

“Oh. Just Kara’s best friend. They’ve been best friends since Kara first moved here,” she grumbled. Why couldn’t she have been paired with Josie? Maggie must have sensed that Alex didn’t want to speak so she just nodded and turned attention back to the teacher.

“We have to research for this so who wants to come to who’s house?” Maggie asked as the bell rung. She flung her bag on her back and straitened her jacket before looking at Alex, her head tilting up slightly.

Alex looked thoughtful. “Your house? It’s just that I don’t want Kara interrupting us every three seconds,” Maggie nodded and then walked off while Alex lingered for Kara. They had most their lessons together and it was history next. Kara finally finished packing up and made her way over to the door. “Took you long enough,” she muttered.

“Sorry. I couldn’t find my pen,” Kara replied breathlessly and with a flustered face. Alex rolled her eyes and the sisters walked off.

Four Days Later

“Ahh! My head hurts,” complained Maggie. They were laying on the floor in Maggie’s bedroom. Alex had to admit, her bedroom looked really nice. There was a cream carpet with a crimson carpet under her desk and next her bed. Her bed was a simple single bed but it had two sets of drawers under the bed.

On the walls, it was a nice pale blue with white lines going down it. There was a bookshelf with binders and a box — Alex didn’t know what was in it but on the front of the box was a heart coloured in purple pencil.

Alex looked at her from under her eyelashes and found herself studying the other girl. The way her dimples became more pronounced when she smiled, usually at something on her phone. The way her eyes lit up even more than usual when she laughed, how Maggie can make you laugh with one sentence.

“We can stop, if you want. We’ve been working on this for, like, three hours now. Why don’t we… get a snack and watch a film?” Alex suggested. Maggie stretched and yawned before nodding her head.

“Yeaaah. Why not?” they got up and shut all the books before putting them in a pile at the end of Maggie’s bed. They got downstairs and found Gabby on the sofa, watching tv.

“Hey Aunt Gabby,” Maggie greeted — Gabriela wasn’t in when the girls got in from school.

“Hi Mags. Hi Alex,”

“Hi Miss Sawyer,” Alex greeted politely.

“Alex, please, call me Gabby. Or at least Gabriela,” the older woman said with a smile.

Alex nodded tentatively, “Okay, thanks… Gabby,”

Maggie had made her way into the kitchen while the little conversation was going down and Alex quickly made her way over. She didn’t realise Maggie had turned around and they clashed into each other causing Maggie to drop the two bags of sweets. “Ah!” she yelled in surprise, flinching back. Both girls looked at each other and burst out laughing.

“I am so sorry,” Alex said while laughing. They picked the sweets up and ran upstairs while causally pushing each other into the wall.

( Gabby smiled as she saw her niece having fun for the first time in around 3 years. )

“So, what do you want to watch?” asked Maggie as she bounced onto the bed. She budged up to the wall and Alex gingerly crawled next to her.

“I’m not bothered, to be honest. Me and Kara are watching That’s so Raven but I can’t watch it without her,” Alex replied. Maggie nodded and made a noise of acknowledgment. She looked through the tv.

“Phineas and Ferb?”

“Sure. Why not?” Alex replied with a smile.

Throughout the whole thing, Alex found herself glancing at Maggie through the corner of her eye every few minutes. Maggie laughed at something the evil guy said ( Alex wasn’t paying attention ) and Alex almost combusted at the sight it made.

Maggie was so beautiful. Wait… where did that come from?

Why did she feel all these things for someone she had only really known for just under a week. When did she start to feel more than friendship for Maggie? When did she start to feel more than friendship for Maggie? What did this mean?

Alex forgot she was staring at Maggie so she was startled out of her day dream when her eyes made connection with Maggie’s. She startled and turned to look at the tv.

“Where you staring at me?” asked Maggie with a teasing tone and a smirk. Alex turned red.

“N- n- no,” she shook her head adamantly. Maggie laughed and nudged Alex with her shoulder.

“It’s fine. I know I’m amazing,” Maggie joked.

“Hehe.Yeah,” Alex replied weakly.

Oh dear god.

Over the past few days, Alex noticed that she had become increasingly infatuated with her new science partner. The first thought in a morning was Maggie and her last thought before she went to bed was Maggie. She also noticed that even she went over to Maggie’s house for homework? They would spend more time on her bed watching tv together ( well, Alex would always look at Maggie so there wasn’t much tv watching on her half ) than actually working.

“This week guys. This week we will be doing the test and then evaluation of your work,” called Mr Tackley as everyone stiffened their things in their bags. Nobody was really listening because it was now Friday lunch time.

As usual, Alex wait for Kara. Only this time, Maggie waited too.

“And you’re sure they won’t mind,” Maggie asked for the fifth time since science started.

“I am positive,” Alex groaned. Maggie nodded and shivered her hands in her pocket. Alex turned and saw Kara heading for them with another girl trailing behind. There was another kid in their class?

The four walked down the corridors and into the upperclass canteen. The Danvers siblings ( plus mystery girl and Maggie ) all found their table. Sat at it was Winn, James and Lucy.

“Hey guys,” Kara greeted with a grin.

“Hi Kara. Lena,” they replied. Alex was confused now. How did they know Lena?

“This is Maggie,” Alex said as they all sat down.

“Hi,” Maggie said with a smile.

“Question: who is Lena and why am I only meeting her now?” Alex asked quickly, she wanted to get that out 30 seconds ago.

“Lena is my friend and you have just met her because you’ve been spending the past three weeks with Maggie. Every waking minute, might I add, and you’re never home until after dinner. That’s why you haven’t met her,” Kara replied. Alex thought she looked upset and kicked herself. Of course. It would seem like Alex was pulling away because even the brunette could admit she had been spending a lot of time with Maggie. She can’t even remember the last sister night they had.

“I’m sorry Kara. How about a sister night on Saturday?” Kara grinned and nodded. They then dug in.

Kara and Alex sat in their makeshift pillow-fort that Saturday night with the flashlights and snacks and laptop along with sleeping bag. “Tell me about Lena,” Alex said.

Kara smiled and Alex could see she was picturing the raven haired girl. “Well, her name is Lena Luthor—”

Alex turned sharply to look at her. “Luthor? Kara! Are you out of your damn mind?! Her brother nearly killed your cousin no more than seven months ago!” Kara winced because Alex was shouting and she was basically right next to her.

“Lena isn’t like her family Alex,” Kara argued.

“Hmph. I warned you,” she grumbled.

“Okay, whatever. Anyway. She is amazing. So intelligent and caring,” she said. Alex could literally see her anime counterpart and her heart-eyes. “Tell me about Maggie. You have basically lost touch with reality ever since Tackley gave us the assignment,”

Alex thought back to these past few weeks with Maggie. How they laughed and watched films and how they played games on Maggie’s Nintendo DS. They have been amazing.

“When she smiles, she has these deep dimples and her smile really shows off her pearl white teeth. Her eyes are like hot chocolate and—”

“Alex Danvers. Are you in love?” Kara interrupted.

“What? No! Kara, what the hell. I don’t like girls that way,” Alex snapped. Kara looked back a little and then snuggled deeper into her sleeping bag.

“Oh,” she said in a small voice. “Okay. I- I think a i’m going to go to sleep now though Alex. Busy day tomorrow,” she then turned over leaving Alex to groan and make silent expressions.

She’d fluffed that one up, that’s for sure.

Alex sat in her seat and rested her head on her hands. She was startled when a bag slammed on the desk. It was followed by a chuckle. “Did I scare you Danvers?” Maggie asked in amusement.

“Pssh, no!” she replied while turning red.

“Uhhuh. I believe you Danvers,” Maggie replied with a smirk. Truth was, Alex was shattered. After what Kara said the night before, she hadn’t been able to sleep. Does she like Maggie?

That’s the question that has been in her head for 2 days. 48 hours. 2,880 minutes and 172,800 seconds.

Alex turned her head to look at the teacher but she caught Kara’s eye. She was smirking and inclined her head in Maggie’s direction. Alex glared at her.

“Alex…” Maggie whispered. She turned her head and saw Maggie look to see if the teacher was looking. “Want to come over to my house this weekend?” she asked.

Alex grew a grin and nodded her head, “Of course,” she replied as if it was obvious. It’s been a month since fate assigned them partners and she’s only ever been to Maggie’s house a handful of times. She’d noticed that Maggie had been a little withdrawn the past few weeks, avoiding talking about her family, so it was nice to get the offer.

Maggie got her key out of her bag and unlocked the door. As usual, Gabby wasn’t home so after taking a plate and putting a few snacks on it, they headed upstairs. “So, what we doing today? Film? Never have I ever? Uno? Sna-” Alex was cut off when a pair of lips pressed against hers. She was taken by surprise but melted into the kiss, her hand even came up to cradle Maggie’s cheek. Despite having only made out a couple times, she found this quite easy. Alex even pinned the smaller girl to the wall and pressed against her.

When they both needed air, they slowly unlatched their lips and stared at each other; catching their breath with smiley faces. “Wow,” Alex muttered.

“Yeah, wow.” Maggie repeated, just as out of breath as Alex, if not more because she anxious Alex would reject her. They stared at each other then, Maggie still leaning on the wall and Alex with her hand on the wall. “So…” Maggie whispered.

“So…” Alex went to kiss her again but they heard a banging on the door. Maggie furrowed her brow and stood up straight. Her and Alex made their hair a tad bit better before walking downstairs and to the door. Maggie opened it and in came a man that was slightly taller than the two girls. He was in jeans and a basketball tshirt with a jacket, he was slumbling a little. Maggie looked like she knew him and the man was actively avoiding looking at her.

“Dad… what are you doing here?” she asked cautiously.

“Where’s Gabriela?” he asked gruffly.

“Erm, I- I don’t know. She should be home soon though,” Maggie replied, her face showed shock and… sadness? Truth be told, Alex had never met Maggie’s dad. Hadn’t even heard her mention him — or her mom.

“Mmm. Who’s this?” he asked, pointing harshly to Alex.

“Oh, erm… she’s erm… well-” she stumbled on her words and started fidgeting with her hands.

“Hi. I’m Alex Danvers,” Alex said and she held out her hand. The man merely scoffed at it and turned to face his daughter.

“Is she another dyke? When are you going to learn Maggie; it’s unnatural!” he all but yelled. Maggie flinched back and lowered her head.

“Hey! Don’t you dare speak to her like that you bastard!” Alex snapped, moving in front of Maggie. The man sneered.

“Whatever. She’ll learn one day,” he walked to the fridge and nicked a bottle of beer before storming out the house and slamming the door shut. Maggie started to cry as the noise of the door silenced. Alex held her close and rubbed up and down her back.

“Sssh. It’s okay,” she whispered, stroking through her hair. Maggie clutched onto her and so Alex brought them over to the sofa and sat down. Maggie out her head on her lap and faced Alex. The taller girl casually raked her hand through Maggie’s hair and rubbed her back.

When Gabby got in ( 10 minutes later ) she found Alex staring lovingly at her fast-asleep niece. As Gabby got closer, she saw her puffy eyes and tear tracks on her skin and looked questionly at Alex.

“I think her dad showed up. Said somethings,” Alex said with a shrug, she was still going over things. Gabby sighed and walked even closer. She knelt down and kissed Maggie’s head causing the girl to stir and turn around on Maggie’s lap (so she was facing the wall).

“Are you okay?” Gabby asked.

“Mhmm. Why wouldn’t I be?” she asked. Gabby looked at her knowingly. “I- I really like her, Gabby. Like, really like her. Then her dad came storming in shouting this and that and I’m scared she’ll back off, you know? Build a wall,” Alex confessed.

“Then I guess me and you will have to help hey, eh?” Alex smiled and nodded before looking at Maggie again.

The next day at school, Maggie couldn’t see either Danvers Sister. It got her worried and anxious. What if Alex was avoiding her? After the shit-show that went down at her house, no wonder Alex doesn’t want anything to do with her.

“Miss Sawyer. Am I boring you?” Mrs Chelsea asked. Maggie snapped back and looked at the teacher.

“Huh? No,” Maggie replied; correction, yes.

“What did I just say?” she challenged.

“…Am I boring you?”

Maggie sighed and walked out of the classroom, a green slip clutched in her hand. She got her phone out:

[ You ] Alex? You ok?

How come you aren’t at school

You or little Danvers aren’t here

Is it […]

She deleted that last bit and shoved her phone in her pocket.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

“I’ll get it!” Kara yelled. She floated to the stairs before running down them. Opening the door, she saw Maggie. The girl was wearing a jacket that looked a little big and her hands were shoved in her jeans pocket. “Hi Maggie. Alex is in her bedroom,” Kara said.

“Why weren’t you at school all week?” she asked.

“I didn’t want to leave Alex alone,” the girl replied. She then walked off. Maggie nodded jerkily and slowly made her way to the stairs. She then ran up them and knocked on Alex’s bedroom door.

“Yeah?” she heard a quiet call from inside.

“It’s me,”

“Come in,” Maggie walked in and saw Alex bundled in bed with something paused on her laptop. “Hi Mags,” Alex sounded awful. She looked really tired and her throat was all raspy.

“You look like crap Danvers,” Maggie commented. Alex let out a chuckle that sounded raspy and painful. Alex patted the bed and Maggie crawled in. Alex wrapped her arm around her moved a bowl that was next to her further to the wall so they could both fit in comfortably.

“I got food poisoning,” she explained. “And a cold,”

“Ouch,” Maggie winced. Alex nodded with a sarcastic smile before closing her eyes and turning her head to the bowl. After a few, she turned back to Maggie. “So this is why you haven’t been at school all week,”

Alex nodded her head slowly. “Yes. I have been spewing my guts… literally, I- I’m not actually sure they’re there anymore,” Maggie laughed and kissed her cheek. Alex blushed.

“I’m sorry about my dad Alex. I- I hope he hasn’t put you off me,” Maggie said quietly. Alex scoffed and hissed her cheek.

“He’s just a dickhead in a looooong line of dickheads. He’s the first for me, but he won’t be the last. And for you, know you’ll always have me to have your back. Forever and always,” Maggie grinned and kissed Alex deeply; who cares if she’s sick. One day they were going to say vows to each other. One of them was In sickness and in health, all she was doing is fufilling them a little earlier.

Alex pushed her away and threw up in the bowl. Maggie rubbed her back and whispered to her when she was dry heaving. “Sssh. It’s okay. Deep breath,” she comforted. Alex’s eyes watered and when she was done and sat there panting; her head hanging over the bowl. Kara came rushing upstairs.

“Alex? Are you okay,” she asked. Maggie was rubbing her back so Kara got some tissue and a glass of water before handing it to the tanned girl. Alex leaned backwards and rested her head on Maggie’s chest. Kara gave her a kiss on the head and took the bowl, leaving them alone.

Once she had cleaned up around her mouth and taken a sip of water, Maggie ran her hand through her hair.

“Sorry,”

“De nada mi amor,” Maggie whispered. Alex smiled sleepily.

“Your voice is pretty,” she said. Maggie chuckled and rested her head on Alex’s. “I think I love you Maggie Sawyer,”

“I think I love you too Alex Danvers. Go sleep mi amor. I’ll be here when you wake up,” Maggie coaxed softly.

“Oh…-kay… mi …’mor,” she mumbled.

Much needed TLC

Part 1

“Le- Miss Luthor,” Supergirl called. Lena looked up and saw Kara float down onto her balcony. She knew that Kara was Supergirl, it was kind of hard not to. The glasses don’t really help. She didn’t tell Kara out of respect, the reporter will surely come to her when she is ready. Antically, Lena was upset. She wasn’t angry but just upset, because she had been telling Lara all of these deep things about her that she hadn’t even told Lex and in return Kara kept the biggest secret of all from her.

“Supergirl? What can I do for you?” Lena asked surprised.

Super walked through the balcony door, “Have you had any contact with your mother recently?” she asked. Lena didn’t know how she did it. Kara and Supergirl, while the same person, where two very different people. Kara was warm and bubberly, her voice was light and airy. Supergirl was neither hot nor cold. She had a smile on her face but she wasn’t bubberly, per say and her voice was put together and serious.

Lena raised her eyebrow and stared at the girl of steal with a questioning look. “Have I seen my mother? No, why? What’s she done this time?” Lena asked exasperated.

Supergirl licked her lips and looked at the floor, “Well, we have reason to believe she is coming here to hurt you.” she explained. Lena scoffed and sat at her chair.

“My mother is many things. A heartless bitch, yeah. A sociopathic xenophobe, yup. But she wouldn’t intentionally hurt me like that,” Lena denied. Right? She hurt Lena emotionally and verbally, what’s stopping her from turning it up a notch and hurting her physically?

Supergirl shook her head and put her hands on her hips, “Miss Luthor, I really think you should think about this. Lillian will do anything to get what she wants,”

“Listen Supergirl, I have been dealing with Lillian for 20 years. I think I can handle a little visit where you can show up as soon as I cry ‘help’. You weren’t around 20 years ago,” Lena said, an air of authority on her as she looked at Supergirl with an expressionless face. She and the alien had a stare off to which the superhero relented.

“Okay. I won’t be far,” she then walked onto the balcony and flew off.

“I know you won’t Kara. You’re always there for me,” Lena muttered, looking at where the hero was. She could have sworn she saw the hero stop in her movements of flying to look at the CEO.

Lena clicked out of the website and was about to log off when there was commotion coming from outside her office. She frowned and reached under her desk for the taser she put there a few months ago. The door swung open and Lillian Luthor came sauntering in.

“Hello daughter,” she greeted with a fake smile.

“Mother,” Lena said in a tight voice. Lena still kept her hand lingering under her desk as the older woman walked forward. “Why are you here?”

“Can’t I visit my daughter every once in a while?” she asked, placing her bag on the chair.

Lena scoffed, “Apparently, only when you want something. Oh, wait, am I the second choice? Has Lex finally got bored of your presence?” Lillian glared at Lena.

“You know Lena, you’re very disrespectful!” Lillian accused.

“Me? Disrespectful? Mother, you once yelled at a maid because they helped me with my homework.” Lena snapped.

“Too right as well, Lena. A Luthor needs no help from the likes of that maid. Did you see the way she was looking at your babysitter,” Lillian questioned. Lena scoffed again and stared at her mother in disbelief.

“Wow. Very mature,” she muttered. The door slammed open and in came the NCPD; Maggie in the lead.

“Miss Luthor, put your hands where we can see them!” Maggie yelled. She touched the ear piece in her ear and nodded. The door suddenly opened and in came Supergirl.

“Finally!” Lillian said. “Lena, love, I never really came to see you. Supergirl, didn’t you question how my ‘plan’ was leaked? Hmm? I knew you would warn Lena and then come rushing to her aid, quite pathetic really. A super bending backwards to save a Luthor. Almost as if you know her,” she insinuated.

“Miss Luthor, I advise you heed to Detective Sawyer’s warning and raise your hands. This doesn’t have to end in a fight,” Supergirl advised, holding her hands out.

Lillian rolled her eyes and went to raise her hands when she grabbed something out of her pocket and pointed it at Supergirl. “Maybe with Supergirl gone, all them Alien parasites will go crawling home!” she yelled. Lena’s eyes widened and it all seemed to go in slow motion. She quickly pushed Supergirl out the way with a small cry of ‘Kara!’. Kara crashed to the floor and Lena was blown backwards onto the balcony.

Everyone watched helplessly as a bright light engulfed Lena Luthor…

…everything came back and Maggie took this opportunity to tackle Lillian to the ground. She handcuffed her and read her her rights before rushing to Supergirl. “Kar? You okay?” she asked quietly.

“Lena!” the blond hero gasped. Maggie was slightly pushed out the way as Kara scrambled outside to where Lena lay. What she saw caused her eyes to widen. “What in the name of Rao?” she questioned.

“What?” Maggie asked. She walked over and saw a girl laying on the floor. Kara and Maggie shared a look. “Uuuh, take her to the DEO. I’ll meet you there,” Kara nodded and picked her up before flying away.

Kara got there and Alex and J’onn came running over. “Who’s that?” Alex asked.

“…Lena,” Kara replied. Alex and J’onn looked at each other before showing Kara to a medical room. She placed Lena on the bed and Alex hooked her up to various machines.

“She is fine,” Alex said. “There are no abnormalities. Her BP is normal. Oxygen and saturation are fine,”

“Then why does she look like a pre-teen?” Kara asked. She was getting really worried and she paced the small space in front of the bed. Alex brought her in for a hug.

“I don’t know Kar. I don’t know,”

Lena groaned as she woke up, where was she? When her eyes focused, Lena saw the clock.

8:46am

What! Lillian was gonna kill her if she didn’t get out of bed! When Lena went to pull her covers back, she saw that she was wearing a hospital gown and in a weird bed. This wasn’t her bedroom. “Mom?” she called, as loud as she dared. “Lex?” Lena started to get scared. What if Lillian dropped her off at an orphanage? What if she finally got rid of her? Daddy was dead so who was there to care about her. “I’m sorry if I was bad about Mommy! Please come back!” she cried.

She saw someone out the corner of her eye and yelled out in fear. There was a man and two women. There was a crest on the blond woman’s chest. “Are you like Superman?” she asked curiously, bringing her knees up to her chest. She looked surprised at the question. “Sorry,” Lena apologised, looking at the floor.

“No, no. It’s okay. I’m Superman’s cousin,” she replied. Lena nodded and looked a little fearful of her.

“Where’s my mom?” she asked in a small voice.

“I don’t know darling. What’s your name?” Alex asked. She saw how Lena seemed a little scared of Kara and she made a mental note to ask her about it. She also wanted to know why she looked so thin.

“Lena,” she replied in a quiet voice.

“What was that?” Alex asked. She wanted Lena to get more confident.

It seemed it only made you worse.

Her eyes widened and she couldn’t seem to get her words out quick enough. “Lena Luthor, ma’am! Sorry for stumbling,” she amended.

“It’s okay sweetie. I just wanted you to get more confident when speaking to us,” Alex said calmly, walking closer to her. Lena nodded and scooted back a little more. “How old are you?”

“Twelve,” she replied in a louder voice.

“Woah, that’s big! I’m in my twenties,” Alex said with enthusiasm.

“What about… her?” Lena asked, pointing in Kara’s direction.

“Supergirl, how old are you?” Alex asked.

“Me? Ooh, I’m 25. Although that’s without my years in the phantom zone,” Kara replied. She saw the light in Lena’s eyes at the mention of the PZ.

“W-what’s that?” she asked curiously, slowly moving onto her knees. The gown she was wearing flowed past her knees so she looked like she was drowning in it.

Kara was a little hesitant at explaining because of how much she went through in it. “Basically, it’s like a region in space where time doesn’t exist. I was thirteen when I went in there and, biologically, I was still thirteen 24 years later.” Lena looked amazed at that.

“Woah!” she grinned. Kara nodded and that’s when Alex sat on the bed next to Lena. Lena flinched a little but sucked her lips as she determined whether she should trust the woman next to her.

“Supergirl, Alex—” J’onn walked in but he was still in his original form. Lena screamed and jumped in Alex’s lap. Her body was shivering and shuddering as she clung onto the older woman. J’onn looked worried as he turned back into Hank and Kara felt tears well up as she watched her best friend scared at the sight of an alien.

“Hey, sssh. It’s okay Lena,” Alex comforted, rubbing her back.

“No! He’s going to take me and- and experiment on me and eat me!” she wailed, her head finding it’s way into the crook of Alex’s neck. Alex could feel the tears ok her neck.

“Ssh. It’s okay Lena, he’s gone now. It’s okay,” Alex soothed. Lena still hiccuped as she tried to stop crying. Her body was shivering a little so Alex motioned for Kara to come over. “Can you grab my jacket? It’s in my locker,”

Kara walked off.

After that fiasco, Lena ended up falling asleep in Alex’s arms. Every time she went to put her down, Lena would cling onto her so she laid down on the bed and let Lena snuggle in the side of her.

That’s how Maggie found them when she came to the DEO after her shift. “Aww,” she couldn’t help but say. Maggie saw Kara looking at them from across the bridge and she looked sad. Maggie walked over and stood next to her soon-to-be-alien-sister-in-law. “What’s up Little Danvers?” she asked.

Kara sighed and rested her her head on her arms. “Lena is scared of J’onn and I think she is scared of me,” she answered tiredly. “Who knows what lies Lillian had been telling her all her life,” Maggie rubbed her back.

“Well we haven’t gotten anywhere with Lillian at the precinct so god knows how long Lena will be stuck as a 12-year-old with trust and-lots-of-other issues,” Maggie said with a huff.

Kara narrowed her eyes at the detective. “You have trust issues too because of your dad,”

“No need for that Little Danvers. I was merely saying that Lena has a lot going on for her right now. Not a good thing when she is twelve years into the future where aliens are, more or less, walking the streets.” Maggie said with a sad smile.

“Sorry. I just want to be there for her but I can’t,”

“But you can. It’s Supergirl she has issues with. Not bubbly Kara Danvers,” Maggie smiled at her before leaving her with her thoughts to be with her fiancée and Little Luthor.

“Hi Alex,”

“Maggie, hi. I- I didn’t know when you’d be back,” Alex seemed startled. Like, you know when you just come back from school and you end up falling asleep on your bed, then you’re woken up for dinner and you shoot awake like ‘what? I haven’t been sleeping’… that’s how she looked.

“It’s fine. I clocked off earlier. I was genuinely worried about Luthor,” she answered. Alex yawned and glanced at the girl at her side. “How is she?”

“She very nearly had a heart attack at the sight of J’onn. She seemed scared of Supergirl and scared of messing up in general,” Alex answered softly. “Makes me hate all the things I used to think about my Mom when Kara came along. Yeah she might have been overbearing, but she loved me and cared for me. Lena is going to need help while she is stuck like this,”

“Then it’s a good thing she’s taken a liken to you,” Maggie said.

Alex nodded again and looked at Lena once more. They were take care of her while she was stuck like this.

“You’re just staying here until your mom comes back,” Alex assured her.

“Mother wouldn’t put me in the care of anyone with association to an alien,” Lena seemed really upper class with the way she spoke and moved as she got awhere of her surroundings. When she woke up from her little sleep yesterday, she immediately distanced herself from Alex and spoke with bigger words than a 12 year old should care to put in a sentence and her back was so straight she could be a lamp post.

“Well it wasn’t your mothers choice,” Maggie said as she hung the keys up. Lena accepted the answer.

“What do you want me to do? I had a strict schedule at home and that’s all messed up,” she asked. She seemed to catch herself and change her sentence. “Not that it’s your fault! I- I don’t really know what’s going on— not that I need to know I- I—”

“Lena. Calm down,” Alex said softly. She placed her hands on Lena’s shoulders and told her to breath. “That’s it. Just calm down. We know the past 48 hours have been stressful so we just want you settled in, okay. Don’t get yourself in a frenzy. If you really want to do something then you can…”

“I can wash up,” Lena suggested. “When mother would go on business tips then I would help the maids around the house. I used to help Helen with the washing up and in return she would teach me Dutch,” Alex looked at Maggie who shrugged.

“Okay then. In return you can watch tv,” Lena grinned and set off. She rolled her sleeves up ( Kara went out with Maggie to buy some clothes for her. Right now she was in a long sleeved navy t-shirt and a pair of denim jeans ) before turning the water on.

Maggie joined Alex on their bed and they watched her carefully. How she seemed extra careful when placing them on on the drain. How she made sure no water splashed on her clothes. Maggie had seen this so many times when she visisted kids she had scared from abused families. Even those never physically hit had their scars. Lena thought she had to be this perfect girl years older than she was.

She’d seen it when Lena was her normal age as well. How she held herself to strangers and how she acted at game night. She never swore. She never spoke with food in her mouth — not even a pea. Whenever she did the dishes, the water would never even be on the drain.

“Agent Danvers. I- I’m sorry but I think I got water on- on the floor,” she said quietly, stubbing her toe on the floor.

“It’s okay darling,” Alex said gently. “It’s just a little bit of water. Just grab a tee-towel and wipe it down,”

She shook her head. “N-oh! That’s not- that’s not okay! It has to be spotless!” she ended up shouting.

“Lena, Lena! Really. It’s okay. Calm down,” Maggie interjected. Her hands seemed to be shaking as she tried to get rid of the water. Alex walked over and pulled her in for a hug. Lena tensed and tried to worm her way out of it but Alex held her tighter. She started swaying them left and right until Lena relaxed into her hold. “You okay now?”

“Yes thanks,” Lena mumbled. Alex let her go and kissed her forehead.

“Go on, go watch tv. I’ll start dinner soon,” Lena hesitated before nodding and walking off.

Lena turned the tv on but wasn’t really paying attention. Who were these people? Why weren’t they punishing her for all the things she did?

She mumbled.

She stammered.

She kept talking.

She spilt water.

Lena hadn’t even practiced her piano yet! She was so screwed if her mother found out. If her mother found out then she would be grounded for years. If her mother found out the she would he screamed at so much, she would flinch for days at the slightest loud noise. Why wasn’t she being punished? Maybe these would be worse. Maybe they would let the two aliens deal with her!

Hand her to a Supergirl and the green man for them to punish her; experiment on her until she couldn’t walk or talk or see.

Lena’s chest tightened and she sent a subtle look at the two older woman who were speaking quietly in the corner near the kitchen. Lena could see they were looking at her every now and again and that made her panic even more. Were they talking about her? Maybe discussing what they would allow the aliens to do with her.

No. She had to be good; had to be perfect even.

“Lena, do you have any preferences for dinner?” Maggie asked. Lena snapped her attention to them, chest still tighter and eyes still showing fear.

“N- no *clears throat* it’s okay Miss. I’m fine with whatever you chose,” Lena answered with a small smile. Maggie hesitantly smiled back and nodded before walking to the fridge.

“So, Lena, what do you like to do?” Alex asked. She moved over and sat at the floor — it was a purpose act so that Lena wasn’t being looked down on; to make her more comfortable.

Lena fiddled with her hands. “I- I do enjoy playing the piano. And I love science!”

“Really? Me too,” Alex said with a grin. Lena seemed to perk up.

“Aw damn. I have a houseful of nerds,” Maggie said in faux-disappointment. Alex laughed.

“Babe, you literally lead the science division. You can say anything,” Lena laughed at their banter. She wished she could live with them forever! They were so caring and nice, they weren’t strict either.

“Oh hush. Don’t ruin my rep,”

“You know I’m two years above my grade?” Lena asked, giving Alex her full attention.

“Oh yeah. You must be very smart then,”

“Uh-huh. Mother says that I shouldn’t accept help with my homework and school work, says a Luthor woman shouldn’t need help. That’s why I’ve always had to do everything myself — she even forbid me to ask Lex!” Alex gave her a sad smile.

“If you ever need help, you can always ask me. Always,” she promised. Lena nodded shyly.

“Lena, Alex, dinner. Careful though because it’s hot,” Maggie called. She put the spaghetti on three plates and then spooned the source and meatballs on. Maggie then went to a smaller pan and spooned the contents on the plate. Maggie saw Lena’s questioning gaze. “I have vegan dishes,” she made an ‘ooh’ look.

They walked over to the counter and Alex grabbed hers before sitting on the sofa. Maggie walked around and handed Lena her plate before sitting next to Alex. Lena bit her lip before sitting on the floor in front of the bed. After a few minutes, Sanvers realised that Lena wasn’t there. They looked around and saw her legs sticking out past the bathroom.

“Lena, what are you doing?” asked Alex. Lena carefully placed the plate on the floor and gracefully stood up.

“Ma’am?” had she done something wrong? Lena quickly checked her clothes, making sure she hadn’t spilled anything.

“Why are you over there?” Maggie asked.

“B- because I’m not good enough to eat with you,” she mumbled, ashamedly. Lillian was always telling her she didn’t deserve to sit at the table. She always ate her dinner on a small kiddie table in the corner.

“Bullshit!” snapped Alex.

“Alex!” Maggie hissed when she saw Lena flinch.

“I’m sorry Lena,” Alex said, walking over to her. Lena flinched and took a massive step backwards causing Alex to freeze and look shocked. Maggie tried to calm the situation down.

“Okay, okay. Everyone take a breath. Alex, go finish your food. I’ll sit with Lena seeing as she isn’t comfortable sitting on the sofa,” Alex looked a little crestfallen so when Maggie went to grab her food, she gave Alex a little kiss on the cheek. Lena’s cheeks flushed red and she sat back on the floor timidly before moving her spaghetti and meatballs around. Maggie quickly joined her.

“Do you like it?” Maggie asked. Lena jumped a little but nodded hastily and started twirling the spaghetti on her fork. Maggie watched her out the corner of her eye. How she had small bites. Ate 1 of 8 meatballs. Ate a quarter of it as a whole.

“Finished,” she said quietly. Maggie stood up and took her plate ( she finished a while ago ) then went to grab Alex’s plate too.

“I wanna kill Lillian,” Alex muttered as soon as Maggie got in whispering distance.

“Me too babe,” Maggie agreed. They both turned and saw Lena looking at her lap; Alex swore she saw tears drop into Lena’s lap but she couldn’t be sure.

They were going to look after her. They were going to do everything they could do for Lena until she was turned back to normal, and then some.

Much Needed TLC

Part 2

Both adults saw Lena yawn every now and then. That’s when they knew it was bed time. “Lena, we haven’t got another bed so do you mind sleeping on an air bed?” Alex asked, circling around and grabbing it from where it was, leaning on the wall. She had Kara zip it around when they were getting ready to leave the DEO.

Lena nodded, “Mhmm. I don’t *yawn* ‘ticularly mind,” she mumbled. Lena started to close her eyes and her head dropped. She ended up leaning against her shoulder and her eyes dropped shut. Maggie sighed and sunk down a little so Lena fell slightly so she was laying on Maggie’s lap.

Alex got to setting the air bed up.

Lena sat at the table and opened her school book. She was doing her science, maths and English homework all in one night; this was to get it out the way so she could focus on her piano skills.

Lena got to question 11 and was stumped. What the hell was this? “Lex! Lex!” she called, her legs swinging back and forth.

16 year old Lex came strolling into the kitchen with his hands in his suit pants pocket. “What’s the matter baby sis?” he asked. He sat next to her and leaned over to look at her book.

“I need help on question eleven,” she answered. Lex nodded and started going through it.

…..”and so because the protons are 24—”

“What, pray tell, is going on here?”  Lillian asked in a cold voice. Lena jumped and her head snapped up, Lex merely hung his head and looked at his mother exasperated.

“U-u-u-uh, n-n-nothing M-Mommy,” Lena stuttered. “L- Lex was j-j-ju-just helping me,” Lena had a stutter; yes. Ever since she was 5 and was bullied at school, she adopted a stutter.

One that Lillian tried to bully out of her.

Lillian scoffed and stormed over, she yanked Lena out her chair and dragged her across the room. Lena started crying as she couldn’t walk. Lillian was dragging her and because Lena was only 7, it was much a faster pace. “Slow down Mommy. I-I-I can’t kee-keep up,”

“Shut up Lena!” she snapped. Lena ended up tripping up and her hand fell out of Lillian’s hand. Lillian grabbed her again and before she knew it, she was in her bedroom.

“Mo-Mo-Mommy! What are-are you doing? I need to d-do my homewor-k,” Lillian slapped the back of her legs causing her to scream. Lillian stared at her while she took shuddering breaths and hiccups.

“Stop being stupid Lena. Luthor woman do not ask for help! Do you understand me?” she hissed. Lena whimpered and nodded her head. “Good. You’ll stay here until morning or unless you need to use the lavatory. No dinner, you don’t deserve it. Understand?” Lena nodded again and Lillian left, the door slamming behind her. When the danger was gone, Lena jumped into her bed and hid under her covers.

She then burst into tears.

Lena woke up abruptly and took a while to catch her breath. When she woke up properly, Lena saw that Maggie and Alex were still asleep, cuddled up in bed. Lena got up and walked quietly over to them. They looked so peaceful. Lena bit her lip and fished for Alex’s phone. It took a while because it was dark (Lena assumed it was around 5am) but she finally found it.

Now she just had to figure out how to unlock it.

After disabling it 7 times, Lena finally got into the phone. She went into phone and clicked keypad before dialling Lex’s number. It rang and rang.

Voicemail, “… sorry, this number is disconnected”

She wiped a tear from her eye and trembled as she dialled Lillian’s number. It rang and she didn’t answer. She called again.

“Who is it. What do you want. How do you have my number?” came the harsh and cold tone of Lillian Luthor.

“Mo—” … suddenly, the phone was ripped from her hands and a blur crashed into the wall. She screamed and jumped backwards, colliding with the bed and falling on her ass. She started crying out of shock and fear and all the commotion woke Maggie and Alex up.

“What on earth is happening?” Maggie mumbled. Alex was awake straight away and saw Lena curled up in a ball on the floor. She was rocking back and forth and then she saw the heap of red and blue on the floor near her door.

“The heck…” the agent muttered. She rubbed her face and went to help Kara — only because she knew Lena was a little weary of her ever since dinner. She helped Kara up and saw her sister was clutching her phone. She saw that her phone was on call to somebody but it was a bunch of numbers. Alex snatched the phone out of Kara’s hand and hung up. “Who was on the phone?” she whispered harshly.

“Lillian!” Kara said under her breath. Alex stared at Kara gone-out before glancing behind her. Maggie was on the floor with Lena curled in her lap. Alex let out a breath and rested her head on Kara’s shoulder. “I came over because J’onn got a ping off your phone; it had been disabled a bunch of time and he was getting concerned. I got closer and heard Lillian’s voice so I raced in and snatched the phone before Lena could speak,” Kara expmained. Alex nodded her head and let Kara hug her.

“You good Lena?” Maggie asked quietly. The girl shook her head.

“It hurt when I fell,” she whispered eventually, Lena hoped they weren’t going to hurt her for admitting weakness.

“Aw, it’s okay hun. Just lay here and then we need to talk. Okay?” Lena tensed but managed to nod. Maggie looked up and closed her eyes. What an… interesting past few hours.

“I am really sorry Agent Danvers, Detective Sawyer. I- I just wanted to talk to my brother, but he didn’t answer. So- so I cal-called my mother. I hope- hoped she could tell me where he was,” Lena had calmed down now but as she spoke, the two woman could tell she was getting choked up again.

“Why didn’t you just ask us?” Alex asked, although she knew that they would have had to lie to her. “Lex is… very busy with LuthorCorp,”

“But it said his phone was disconnected!” Lena argued; she hated being lied to and, to be honest, she was already going to be punished for stealing so what was a little bit of attitude?

Plus, a ‘Luthor woman never backs down. She always holds her own’.

“Hey. We don’t yell,” Maggie scolded. “Maybe he just got a new phone? The point is, you don’t steal Alex’s phone at…*checks time* 5:48am. It’s not nice,” Lena felt all her courage diminish and she sunk in the sofa.

“I jus-just wanted to spe-spe-sssspeak to my brother,” she whimpered. Maggie and Alex sat down next to her and brought her in for a hug. Lena relaxed into their hold and the couple thought they finally got through to her. Finally made her realise that she was safe with them.

Maybe.

The next morning, everything seemed alright. It seemed as though Maggie and Alex had forgotten about Lena stealing Alex’s phone which caused Supergirl to come crashing into Alex’s glass side door ( a door that now has a covering across it because of a massive Supergirl hole in it ).

“Who’s up for bacon and eggs?” Alex asked when she woke back up 3 hours later. Maggie raised her eyebrow.

“Your vegetarian girlfriend doesn’t want any,” she said dryly. Alex chuckled nervously.

“You’re going work,” she replied with a neck scratch. Maggie sauntered over and leaned against Alex.

“I know I am. Doesn’t mean I can’t have breaky,” she muttered huskily. Alex started to get flushed.

“Pop Tart? We have unfrosted strawberry?” Maggie stared at Alex’s eyes and had no emotion behind them… before she grinned, kissed Alex and grabbed a Pop Tart.

“Little Luthor. What do you want for breakfast?” Maggie asked loudly as she found all her energy. Lena jumped from where she was on the sofa and looked thoughtful.

“Jam on toast? Please,” she asked timidly.

“Sure can do kiddo,” Alex agreed with a kind smile. Lena gave her one back and turned back to the tv — she was watching Merlin. Lena went back to watching animatedly. Maggie unlocked the safe under her bedside table and pulled out her badge and side arm before clipping the gun to her jeans and attaching the chain to her badge so she could wear it around her neck.

“I’m going now babe, Lena. I’ll be free for lunch but I won’t finish until around 4 or 5,” Maggie explained.

“Bye Babe,” Alex said, gave Maggie a kiss.

“Bye Detective Sawyer,” Lena said with a wave.

“See ya kid,” Maggie responded, she opened the door and called out: “Call me Maggie!” before the door slammed shut behind her.

Alex turned and looked at Lena.

“Looks like it’s me and you all day,” she said

I’m not Crazy, Just a little Unwell

Lena could feel the tears welling up in her eyes as she stared in the eyes of Kara Danvers. Her ‘best friend’ …Supergirl, famous alien. She saw her puffy eyes and tear marks but, at this time, they didn’t matter.

They didn’t matter because once again she had been lied to by those close to her. Lena could see it was tearing Kara up to lie to her. She saw the raw emotion on her face.

But she had been lied to. And she stings and crawls back to her walls at the even hint of betrayal. Lena walked off and she heard Kara break down sobbing as she walked past her…

%%%%

All day starin' at the ceilin' makin'

Friends with shadows on my wall

Lena looked around her new apartment and licked her lips. This was it. New city. New friends. New life. Could she step away from Lex’s reign of terror? Make friends that wouldn’t use her?

Day 76 in National City. “And I am still as lonely as i’ve ever been,” Lena whispered sadly. She laid down in bed and opened her phone. Oh. The first thing she saw was an article on Lex.

‘Should probably sleep. Get energy for tomorrow’, she thought.

All night hearing voices tellin' me

That I should get some sleep

Because tomorrow might be good for somethin'

Hold on, feelin' like I'm headed for a breakdown

Lena walked past Kara and couldn’t keep her tears away, she did it. Kara finally admitted to her the fact she was Supergirl. She was now going to feel the same pain as she did. Lena hovered over the send button.

And I don't know why

But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell

No. This was insanity. She could tell Andrea who Supergirl was. Yes, she was upset. But Kara needed to remain anonymous so she can help protect.

She wasn’t going to put the world at risk because she got her feelings hurt again.

I know, right now you can't tell

But stay a while and maybe then you'll see

A different side of me

Lena could see Kara was hurt, both physically and mentally as the kryptonite hurt her. Surprise and shock in her eyes when Lena had her yell.

“I killed my brother for you! For my friend! Don’t you understand what you’ve done!” she screamed.

Kara was seeing the Luthor in Lena for the first time. And it was all her fault. If she had told her the truth from like… year 1 then if wouldn’t have come to this! It took her around 2 or so years to tell Winn she was an alien.

I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired

I know, right now you don't care

Then lobbed her phone across the room as she saw another article on how she poisned a bunch of kids. This was awful. Despite Kara and Sam trying to help clear her name, she has no idea how long she can carry on like this.

But soon enough you're gonna think of me

And how I used to be, me

*

Lena hugged Kara tightly and wouldn’t let her go. Kara rubbed her back and Lena finally looked at her. Both of them on the verge of crying. “I don’t know what I would have done if you didn’t make it,” she whispered.

Kara smirked, “You probably wouldn’t have delicious donouts — or any food really, until you passed out. Correct?” Lena let out a laugh she hadn’t have the joy of doing for months (a year?) as Kara displayed her usual funny side.

I'm talkin' to myself in public, dodging glances on the train

“That’s Lena Luthor,” someone whispered to whoever would hear them. She was on the train for school.

“Why’s she on a train?” another, older fellow, muttered. Mother wouldn’t allow her the driver because she spilt some water at the table and it went on the wooded floor. So here she was, suffering through all the sideways glances and whispers.

And seriously….

And I know, I know they've all been talkin' about me

I can hear them whisper, and it makes me think

There must be somethin' wrong with me

“What is wrong with me?” Lena asked aloud and pressed delete.

Out of all the hours thinkin', somehow I've lost my mind

“Miss Luthor. It’s 5:20am,” Jess said as she came in with a pillow and blanket.

“Oh. Hi Jess,” Lena said. “Sorry, can’t talk, I have to fig-figure this out. If I times that by seventy….nine and then divideand move—” she continued mumbling erratically.

“Miss Luthor! If you do not turn off that computer and lay down on your sofa with this blanket and pillow, I will call Miss Danver and she will drag you home,” Jess said loudly.

But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell

I know, right now you can't tell

Lena showed the wine as she came into the room. Everyone was sat down and enjoyed the drink but Lena took her new knowledge and kept looking at Kara. That’s when she saw it. How could she be so dumb.

“Lena, are you okay?” Kara asked softly. She came and sat next to her.

Lena plastered on a smile. “Yeah, of course. Why wouldn’t I be silly?” Kara looked suspicious so she gave her a hug and scooting over to whatever game they were playing.

But stay a while and maybe then you'll see

A different side of me

Kara spun around. “This isn’t about Lex! This is about J’onn, and Alex and all the other people that could have been killed today because they’re on my team. Don’t you understand that?” she asked intense and loudly.

“No, I do. Of course I do!” Lena said with a frown.

“No, you don’t.” Kara said much calmer. “You have never known what it means to share a secret identity with someone. How much danger that puts them in. You-you- you never even understood that I kept my identity from you, because I wanted to protect you!” she snapped.

Lena couldn’t speak. She just kept staring at Kara as she unleashed what she had been feeling.

“And I know- I know I hurt you by waiting so long to tell my truth. But what about all the ways you hurt me? You pretended to be my friend for weeks. You stole from me. Got me to steal for you. And then-“ Kara scoffed, “Then you used kryptonite on me!”

Lena felt like she was going to cry; what had she done?

“I made one mistake- one- that was only ever made to protect you. And in return all you have done is hurt me in every way imaginable,”

Kara never took her eyes off of Lenass she spoke. All the pent up frustration. How she spent the better part of 4 years defending Lena against Alex, against J’onn, Winn, James. How she always helped her with Morgan Edge.

I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired

I know, right now you don't care

But soon enough you're gonna think of me

And how I used to be

Lena sat on her desk and seemed so tired. “… An ungrateful daughter. Heroine. Bitch,” Kara let out a noise of disgust. “They’ve all called for a quote. Not you though, that’s not why you’re here?” she asked quickly and hopefully. “Snapper Carr hasn’t sent you here to shake me down?” Lena let off a nervous laugh.

“No, no. I’m here as a friend. I thought you could use some fried sugary goodness in your life,” Kara held up the bag of donuts. “You eat donuts right?”

Lena stood up and donned an obvious look on her face. “Well…” she plucked them out of Kara’s grip. “I am human,” they both laughed.

I've been talkin' in my sleep

“Miss Luthor, wake up. Miss Luthor,” Lena was startled awake. “Sorry, it seemed like you was having a nightmare,”

Pretty soon they'll come to get me

Yeah, they're takin' me away

Maggie put the cuffs on Lena and read her her rights while Kara stood, helpless.

I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell

I know, right now you can't tell

But stay a while and maybe then you'll see

A different side of me

I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired

“I don’t ever let my guard down, ever. And I did with Eve. She betrayed me. I let her in, and she lied… to me …everyday …to my face. About who she was…”

“The file was ready to upland,” HOPE said. “Why didn’t you send it, exposing Supergirls identity to the world? Did you forgive Kara Danvers?”

“She betrayed me, broke my heart. I could never forgive her,” she walked off.

“I don’t understand,”

“How could you? You’re not a Luthor. We’re scorpions. When someone betrays us, we sting,” Lena said emotionless.

I know, right now you don't care

But soon enough you're gonna think of me

And how I used to be yeah, how I used to be

How I used to be

How I used to be

Well, I'm just a little unwell

How I used to be

How I used to be

I'm just a little unwell...

It was 5 hours after she almost killed Supergirl (by accident) with kryptonite. Lena sat on her sofa with photos of her and Kara.

She started sobbing. Her chest hurt but she couldn’t catch her breath. Tears dropped like rockets onto her person, and they wouldn’t stop.

She had lost her best friend for good.

She’d lost her only friend.

Chapter Text

Regrets of the Past - part 2

It had been a full two weeks later when Lillian found herself outside of LuthorCorp L-Corp. Countless times had she reached for her phone. Countless times had she gone to ring her, to even text her, but she never did. She chickened out. How could she go in there and tell her that, yes, Lillian was in fact her blood mother and that all the abuse she had gone through was because Lillian had an ego problem. Because she couldn't handle the fact that her husband desired to lay in bed elsewhere. All because he had an problem. Lillian stared at the massive letters on the building, she took a deep breath, and then walked in with her head held high.

Lena had been having a good day. A really good day. She woke up on the couch of Kara Danvers, to the smell of Kara Danvers's cooking (well, that wasn't a pleasant sight but the fact she tried made it all better and they ordered some breakfast) and some lunch by Kara with a nice note. Today she had even been down into the lab for longer than two hours! It was now just past 6 at night Lena was looking forward to the game night that was going ensure tonight with Kara and her friends-- it was Lena's 5th time attending and so far it had been, well, all fun and games. Lena never thought that she would find this, family in friends. She never thought she would find friends. Lena spent so long shielding herself from the heartache of close connections due to the trauma of her abusive family that she never imaged the day she would let her guard down enough to find a close friend never mind friends as in plural.

Lena had got up, putting some rubbish in her bin when her doors burst open and she heard the clacking of heels along with a string of apologies leaving the mouth of her secretary, Jess. It was too normal for her not to assume and he face lit up when she gathered that her best friend decide to pop in to see her, to see if she was still coming to game night no less because after all this time, she is still scared that Lena will back out. While yes, she has wanted to back out every time, this was due to her anxieties and trust issues, not because she didn't enjoy her time because she did. "I assume you are thinking of someone else that isn't me behind that smile," and the smile immediately left her face. That... grinding voice wasn't from the sweet Kara Danvers, but from the cruel and vindictive woman she has the pleasure of calling mother.

"Finally-- we agree mother. I thought you were someone else," Lena commented, sending a pointed look at Jess.

"I am so sorry Lena!" Jess said hurriedly, smoothening down her hair. "Miss Danvers is fast, but Miss Luthor is... scary," she said the last word silently as she eyed the elder woman. Lena was sure that she imagined it but she swore she saw a sliver of regret flutter across her mothers face.

Lena sighed and walked a little closer to them, "It's okay, Jess. Leave us," her voice turned a little cold near the end as she turned to face the bane of her childhood. "Mother. To what do I owe this displeasure?" Lena asked, making her way back to her desk so she can sit down. Lena watched out of the corner of her eye as Lillian hesitated before taking a seat at the other end if the desk. Now Lena was curious; this wasn't like her mother at all. Her mother who was so full of confidence. "What's wrong mom?" she asked with an exasperated sigh.

Lillian reached into her bag and this put Lena on edge; someone reaching into their purse in front of her has never been a good thing  for a Luthor. "Relax, child. I won't be pulling out a gun," Lillian rolled her eyes and instead pulled out a book. Lena looked at it. It was fully black and looked old and withered.

"What's this?" Lena asked, getting the book from Lillian's offered hand. Lena glanced up at Lillian as the elder one stood to pace slightly. "Mother... this was fathers journal," she would recognise that handwriting anywhere.

"Months before that entry was made, me... Lionel and Lex were ready to have an addition to the family. Charlotte Marie Luthor," Lena frowned, where was her mother going with this? Given by the lack of sister, Lena assumed that this pregnancy didn't last or she was given up for adoption. "We were so happy, Lena. We were going to have a daughter. Lionel couldn't wait and Lex... well, he was over the moon as he was going to be a big brother to a sister he could mentor in her later years," Lena scoffed. Lex was happy about having a sister because that would mean he would have a little puppy that would follow him around all the time and boost his ego.

Yet, Lena saw the emotion and the conflict dancing in her mother’s usual stony eyes and this intrigued her; why was this topic so emotional for her and why come to Lena of all people about.

"Mother," she started, momentarily placing the book down and standing slightly. "What happened to… to Charlotte?" the name felt foreign and yet familiar on her lips and for a second, Lena felt her world shrinking as it collapsed on her.

Lillian glanced at Lena, "The doctors told me that it was a still-birth," she said after moments of contemplation. Lena felt like all the oxygen had been kicked from her body and she staggered to her chair.

Somewhere deep down, Lena knew that couldn’t be true

"She didn’t die. Did she mother?" Lena asked softly, like any louder would break them both. Like she was airing Earth’s biggest lie. "Charlotte is alive," Lillian nodded mournfully, falling to the floor in anguish. Lena raced over. Why. Why must she, whenever Lena was getting right on track to forgetting about her, about cutting all ties to her, about feeling absolutely nothing for the woman, not hate not love, did something have to happen that made her rethink it all? Why must God constantly laugh in her face and present her another problem yet another reason for the real Woman of Steel to worm back into her life with another lie concocted to tear her down again.

But this wasn’t a lie. No. It couldn’t be; her mother was a good liar and a great bluffer but this was raw emotion.

"I am so sorry my child," Lillian sobbed out, raising a hand to Lena’s face. Out of pure instinct, the CEO flinched away which caused more soul crushing sobs to escape Lillian’s deceitful mouth. Lena tentatively reached and held Lillian’s aging hand. A hand that caused her less damage than the lips that spoke these world altering words.

"My Charlie,"

Lena looked at her mother sleeping form. The waterworks had started as soon as she realised her... mother was asleep in her arms, nonetheless. If she ever found put then Lillian would kill her, however she did call Jess in to help her lay down on the sofa and to fetch a blanket for her. Now, the CEO was sat at her desk with silent tears running down her cheeks. A stony mask in place, a huge contrast to how she feels inside. Her inner turmoil; Lena really is a Luthor. If she goes by her mothers water word that is. She hadn't spared that black book a single thought ever since she collapsed in her chair and dismissed Jess. The young woman knew she wanted someone, anyone (definitely not a blonde journalist) to be a rock. Her heart was beating like crazy as her piercing eyes bored holes in the black journal. Only one way to make sure that her mother wasn't spewing another one of her lies.

So she opened it.

The first few pages were nothing she didn't expect from her father. She read through September before finally landing on October, due to the conversation she (well, that wasn't exactly a conversation) had with her mother just moments prior, it didn't go unnoticed how this was dated a year before her birthyear. "Miss Luthor! You need a lock on your door!" came the frazzled voice of one very tired secretary. Lena let out a small chuckle; a presence filled the air that she had come to, despite everything, trust. "This time it is Miss Danvers,"

"Thank you Jess-- maybe I will employ Supergirl to guard my office. I don't think my mother will be scaring you or that lovely Kara can pull a fast one on her," Kara turned red and skipped over the fact that Jess was talking about Lillian Luthor while she basked in the embarrassment.

Jess laughed hollowly, "Just be thankful your mother doesn't want you dead and that, and that no offense, Miss Danvers has the soul of a golden retriever," and just when Lena thought Kara couldn't get any redder. Jess then took her leave and Kara nodded her head to the sleeping woman.

"Is she dead?" Lena laughed and wiped her eyes, "Lena! You're-you're crying! Why are you crying? Was it her? Do I need to unleash the Danvers fury?" at Lena's look Kara shrugged, "I never specified what Danvers," and looked at Lena with a sly smirk. Lena chuckled again and softly shook her head. Kara walked around to her and leaned against her desk. "Lena— talk to me,"

She cast a look at the black notebook. "Mother gave me another book for my birthday," she said, words dripping with sarcasm. "This is my father’s very private journal— not even Lex was allowed to read it,"

"Ooo juicy," Kara commented with glee in her eyes. Lena smiled at the reporter’s curiosity in her young eyes.

Lena shook her head and got up from her chair, "I can’t Kara; this makes what she said true. I can’t ever trust her word, not right now at least and never for a hundred years no matter how pure an emotion she shows me. But… if this book really is the truth of my childhood then it makes it all… real," Kara nodded along to her and lucked the book up.

"I can read it to you? Maybe soften the blow," Lena felt all the weight sag from her shoulder’s. Her heart slow.

"Yeah?" Lena asked, all choked up. "I would like that. I am so glad you came to visit me Kara," Kara smiled at her and grappled her hand, taking the plunge and kissing it briefly.

"I will always be there when you need me, Lena. Always," she promised, looking Lena right in the eyes. Kara lead them behind Lena’s desk, pulling a chair with her, and they sat down. "Where am I starting?" unknowingly to Lena, Kara used her super speed to skim through the pages before she found something useful. "Uh- October 26th. 1993. Dear Diary, I can’t believe what I’ve done,"

Lena didn’t break down until the last line.

I won’t feel all that horrified by it because I don’t have a bond with the child yet.

Notes:

Does anyone want a part 3?
Lena being read the entries and reacting to it, Lillian waking up and her and Lena having a real conversation etc.
