Color Blind

Summary:

Dirk has to run from his friends that are acting weird, and figure out how to get away from them and survive. Overcoming past problems and having to face new ones how will he handle this new loop life threw at him as he realizes that not only is he in a doomed timeline but that there's no escape from it or from his friends hunting him down.

Notes:

This Fanfic is a work in progress and will most likely be edited minorly later on as I figure out how to use AO3 better.
The first chapter is rather small and short but it's kind of more like a Preface than a proper first chapter.
That being said, I hope you enjoy it and I hope to post more soon.

Chapter 1: _On the Run_

Chapter Text

I always really hated bright colors, something about them always seemed off-putting and panic-inducing. Maybe it was that they made whoever wore them really visible or maybe it was the eyestrain they gave people; whatever it was, it really wasn't helping here or now. Having to run from those very same overly bright colors as he ran from his trickstered out friends really made his mind wander to every little thing except the active situation. Like, how he never replied to Roxy's last message to him, or that Jake had left him on read about two weeks ago, or that it was a real fucking mistake to leave Hal back at home so he could blow off steam alone without Janes spamming messages checking up on him. He had been down clearing out one of the easier dungeons on his own with just a sword or two, a half-mask version of his full one, and his hoverboard in his sylladex so he really wasn’t prepared to handle the active happenings.

The high visibility of the colors was actually helpful in this case, 'cause while they hurt to look at, at least he could tell where they were without having to search for them, he just had to give a quick glance and that's all. Which was a good thing as he used the hoverboard to weave and swerve between buildings and collapsed structures trying to outrun the three back to his place so he could even grab Lil' Hal and anything else he may need before locking himself up in his apartment or making a run to one of the other planets to hide there. Dirk hadn’t been to Jake's planet in a good month or so, but he may go there. Easier to hide with all those trees and ruins everywhere; at least, easier than on the planet full of empty tall buildings where he was the only thing with any orange or red on him, or the only thing moving for that matter. Well, other than his hella out of it friends.

He breathed in a heavy breath as he leaned far back on his board to both make a quick sharp turn and to avoid Roxy that just tried to tackle him off his board as she came out of nowhere with a pretty fucking loud yell of, "Dirky!!!" , as she did. How these three thought they were sneaky like this, he had no idea, but he didn't really dwell on it for very long as he saw a fairly long alleyway and turned into it before speeding up and diving down into a more clouded area, if he was going to lose them, he had to get lower in the harder-to-navigate areas, even Jake who had spent months with him wandering the plant and exploring it didn't know it as well as he did. All he had to do was get out of their line of sight and he'd be home free. Diving down, he heard a few of them shout behind him but he couldn’t hear what it was that they shouted with the air in his ears, he could worry about it later, when he was locked down in a secure area where they couldn’t get to him.

The thing Dirk hated the most about this is that it took being trickstered and having all his problems and negativity forcefully ripped from him and his ability to comprehend it for his ex-boyfriend to even want to talk to him at all, let alone be anywhere near him, he's apparently so annoying and grating on the nerves that it took that for him to interact with him at all. That really seemed like some sick fucking joke, like they were fucking with him and were going to rip off the colorful clothes and hair and yell that it was all a prank but he knew it wasn't going to happen, not with how they look, not with what they were saying. Dirk knew his friends well and he knew they would never have such little to no filter like they do now, not even for a major prank. No one would.

Picking up more speed, Dirk stuck his arm out and grabbed onto a half-bent street light pole to launch himself around the corner before the tricksters could catch up and see where he went in the green toxic cloud that covered his planet everywhere. Taking a moment to lightly rub his hand on his jeans for a second before straightening his arm back out he kept going a few buildings before quickly ducking into a building and quickly grabbing the hoverboard back into his sylladex and ducking through the different rooms in the crumbling office building. He ducked behind a wall and slipped into what probably used to be an office before lightly closing the door and sliding down the other side of the door and holding his hand over the front of his mask trying to catch his breath and quite the filter noise it made. He tried to sit as stock-still as he could not wanting to make any unnecessary noise in case the trickster thing made their hearing better or anything like that, he really fucking hoped it didn't but wanted to be safe rather than sorry for relying on a probably fantasy level hope.

A few hours passed by, least that's what his glasses were telling him, he may have left Lil' Hal at home but he did bring one of the shades he used as a prototype before making Hal to see if the shades could even house a computer, they had base functions like having a clock, and notes section, timer, navigation system, and emergency messenger none of his friends knew about yet cause he hasn't had to use it yet. Talking about the emergency messenger dirk brought it up and sent a quick message to Lil' Hal to try and update him on all this bullshit and see if the supercomputer Ai could help him make a game plan to get back to the house.

ET: We have a Code Pink, Code Purple, Code Grey, and A Code Blue
TT: Jane, Jake, and Roxy were all taken over by an uncontrollable force, You are being chased, You are lost and being
blocked from home, and need to bunker down?
TT: You have gotten yourself quite the tricky situation haven't you Dirk?
ET: Ya ya I get it you're upset I left you at home to go blow off steam but really.
ET: I need your help here Hal, please.
TT: Where are you actively located, I'll make you a route back home avoiding the others.
ET: I'll drop you the location pin, just give me a moment.

-- emergancyTestified [ET] has shared their location with timaeusTestified [TT] --

TT: You are quite a while out, it will take me a moment to route an escape path and backup ones.
TT: I will add it to the backup glasses GPS routes when I have finished.
ET: Thanks Hal, I really owe you one after this.
TT: That you do Dirk, maybe you could pull through with that one promise you made before
ET: Yea yea I get it, I'll finish up the project as soon as I can after this all blows over.
ET: If it does at least, hopefully it does.
TT: Oh, you're actually that desperate at the moment aren't you? I did still think you were joking for a moment Dirk,
but now I can tell that you aren't.

-- timaeusTestified [TT] has shared GPS routes with emerygancyTestified [ET] --

TT: Based on the route and what you said about the situation you should set out as soon as you can, taking into
travel time if you want to get here before it gets dark you'll have to be out of the building within the next five minutes.
ET: Got it, Thank you Hal. I'm not going to be able to keep the chat logs up while on the move but keep an eye on my
location got it?
TT: Understood, Safe travels Dirk.
