Love in the sky

Summary:

Marinette is going to NY on an international flight for the first time. What she doesn’t know is that the one seated next to her is the popular new band Kitty Section’s guitarist: Luka Couffaine.

Notes:

I wrote this for the LBSC Sprint challenge but I got carried away and broke the rules (again) because I have no self-control ^^;
Prompt is: Sitting next to each other on the plane.

Thank you MalcomReynolds for checking it for me :)

Chapter Text

Marinette rushed through the aisle of the plane. She couldn’t believe she almost missed it! her first international trip to the US! Stupid alarm! Of course she was tired. She was so nervous she couldn’t sleep all night… until 5AM… and the plane departed at 10AM… and obviously she had to oversleep. *sigh*

Running, tripping and spinning on her feet, she finally searched for her seat. 38B - aisle seat. Her pink polka dotted suitcase was heavy, but thanks to the cabin attendant she could finally put it inside the overhead bin, while her backpack rested under the seat in front of her. All set, she let her weight fall on the seat at last and let out a deep breath as she fastened her seatbelt.

The doors of the plane closed, and the PA message started: Welcome on board… Security instructions… Marinette wasn’t listening. Her legs were uncontrollably shaking, and her fingers were fidgeting with the laces of her hoodie.

Those nerves and stress couldn’t be healthy.

She examined her surroundings, and, next to her, someone was sleeping. Someone, who appeared to be a young man, with a sleeping eye mask and a face mask on, messy blue hair showing under a knit hat and a blanket covering his body. Overall, it didn't give much more information about her plane's seat neighbor. Not wanting to wake him up, she focused on the rest of the passengers instead. Why were all of them so quiet when she felt her heart could burst out of her chest anytime?

The plane started its runaway and Marinette closed her eyes tightly when it raised from the lane. Once in the air, she started breathing again, but her heart was still beating fast.

"First time on a plane?" a masculine voice beside her asked.

She turned to her side, and looked at the person seated next to her. His eye mask was over his head now, and she could see his blue eyes clearly, while his blue bangs partly covered his eyebrows.

“Y- yes!” she squeaked.

“You’re making me nervous too. Calm down, it’s going to be ok” he assured.

“I- I know!" She said, but her body wasn’t obeying. “I’m sorry...”

The young man sighed. “Look, I’ve been on a plane many times. It’s safe. Why don’t you try to sleep? It’s going to be a long flight.”

“I- I can’t! I’m too nervous! I’ve never traveled alone before, plus my career depends on this trip! I can’t stay calm!”

“Why don’t you try listening to some music, then? It always helps me relax” the young man offered her a sympathetic look.

“Music…?” she blinked. ‘ It could work ’.

She plugged the earphones and put them in her ears. Then, she scrolled through the music programs on the touch screen in front of her. Classical music? For some reason, it only made it worse. Country music? Not her style. XY? Hell, no . Her eyes stopped at the name of a fairly new band: “Kitty Section”. She played the video called: “Kitty Section's Paris Live Concert”.

“Good choice” the man next to her said when the title started showing on the screen.

Marinette had heard about the band called Kitty Section. They had featured in most of her favorite magazines after they won Eurovision several months ago, but she wasn't familiar with their music. In less than a minute, she was hooked and forgot completely about her surroundings or her nerves.

“Wow!” she mumbled, mesmerized, and the man next to her let out a snicker.

The music was amazing- the rock vibes, their stage presence, the vocalists’ cuteness and high ranged voice, the accurate and insane drums, the gorgeous purple haired bassist… all of them sounded incredible. But the guitarist… the blue haired guitarist was extraordinary - unbelievably good. Not only talented, but also powerful, charismatic and incredibly handsome.

“They’re good, huh?” The man beside her commented and she nodded. She could tell he was smiling under his face mask. She nodded in agreement.

“I had never heard them properly before but damn- they are incredible ” Marinette answered, and he laughed. Her fingers tapped rhythmically, following the beat of the song.  “But…" she continued, observing. "I think they could do better. There’s a margin of improvement,” she said with judging eyes.

“Oh, really? How?” The blue-eyed man asked, curious, resting his elbow on the arm rest to get a closer look.

“The costumes,” Marinette pointed out. Then, she reached her backpack under her feet and took out a sketchbook and a pen and started drawing. “The outfits could be improved if they added this, and this” she signaled. “And this-” She kept scribbling while the blue-haired man observed and listened to her suggestions. “And ta-da! Wouldn’t they look even better if they were like this?” She proudly showed him her designs, only to realize she was being embarrassing towards a stranger. “Ah, sorry- I got carried away…” She apologized. But the man took the sketchbook in his hands.

“Let me see,” he said, and she saw how his eyes examined every detail of her drawings. She gulped nervously. It felt like her skills were being tested. But the man took his face mask off and smiled. “Wow, that’s impressive. Fresh, charismatic, unique- and perfectly according to the band's style. I love them" he returned her the sketchbook. "You’re very talented. Are you famous? Do you take commissions?” He asked, and she looked at him speechless.

“I- I’m still a no-one… Is it really impressive?” She looked at him and blushed at the compliment.

“Yes, I think so. What would you do with this outfit?” He asked, showing him a photo of the same band on his smartphone. Her inspiration overflowed as she kept drawing and explaining her ideas. They kept discussing costumes and visual aspects of the band and chatted comfortably for a long time.

"I think Rose should go with something more… daring, bolder. She looks innocent but she's fierce inside. Of course, cuteness is her main trait, so I think she should combine both" she explained, coloring her design with colored pencils. "I think something like this would be perfect for her" she showed him her sketchbook and he was impressed. “As for Juleka-” She continued, turning to a blank page. “She’s so beautiful. I wish she didn’t cover her face so much, even if the mystery look is really attractive too…" She stopped drawing for a moment to admire the bassist on the screen. "Gosh- She's so gorgeous! I wish I was that beautiful” she commented.

“I think you’re even more beautiful than her, you know?” The blue-haired man casually said, and she shyly blushed with a 'no way' frantic arms movements. “What about the guitarist?” he asked, raising an eyebrow with a smug smile.

“Luka Couffaine? OH LORD SHOW MERCY- Have you seen him? And his eyeliner? It should be ILLEGAL to be this HOT” She said, convinced.

“Hmmm… So you like him, huh?” He teased, his smile widening.

“Who doesn’t, really?” She shrugged. “He’s literally the SEXIEST man alive. His eye contact with the camera could kill! Oh, and whenever he gets shirtless on stage or photoshoots? GOD- I almost get a nosebleed EVERY FREAKING TIME! He's TOO DAMN HOT" She fanned herself at the image. "Don’t you agree?" She asked and he blinked twice. "You like him too, right? You have so many photos of them in your phone! I bet he’s making you question your sexuality too, like he does with all my friends! How could anyone resist those blue eyes and his manly features, his soft looking blue hair and- his tattoos..." She looked away from her seat neighbor's blue piercing eyes, and focused at the smartphone screen again, to a close-up photo of Kitty Section’s guitarist. "How did you get these close-up casual photos...?” she asked, and then she noticed the tattoo on his neck. She looked back and forth at the man seated next to her and the one in the picture. It couldn't be, right… ? And at that moment, when he had a knowing smile on his face- one she knew too well-, she realized who he was seated next to on the plane. Her eyes opened as big as plates and she overheated. He was smirking amusingly at her reaction. “You- You- You are-? Lu-Lu-Luk- It can’t be…”

He nodded to confirm her suspicions and her jaw fell to the floor. “Hi. I think I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Luka. But I think you already know that. It’s nice to meet you.” He chuckled, straightening his hand for a handshake.

“Oh God, kill me now...” She mumbled, sinking on the table. Luka snickered.

“What’s your name?”

“Ma-Ma-Marinette… I mean- Marinette!” She felt his eyes on her and panicked. “Excuse me- I- I need a moment... This- This is too much- Oh My God...” She stood up and rushed to the end of the plane, not without tripping twice on her way there.

While Marinette was gone, the two ladies in front of Luka and Marinette’s seats turned to Luka. “Having fun?” They smirked, knowingly. He was chuckling, having real trouble to keep his laugh from escaping.

“Oh, God, Yes. This is so much fun." He wiped the tears that were forming on his eyes. "I think I’ve found our potential new costume designer” he continued laughing under his nose.

“Only that? I think there’s more...” Juleka smirked, and Rose giggled in agreement by her side. He couldn't deny it: his sister was totally right.

Behind Luka's seat, Kitty Section's drummer, Ivan and his girlfriend Mylene had been enjoying the show the blue-eyed pair had been giving. It was definitely more entertaining than any movie. It would have been perfect if they had popcorn to accompany their fortunate first row seats to the hilarious show. They also approved Marinette's designs.

Luka took the chance Marinette wasn't there to freely stand up, go talk to their managers and stretch his legs for a bit.

Back at the end of the plane, Marinette drank some juice and moved to the bathroom. She was panicking in front of the mirror, talking to herself.

“OH. MY. GOD. I’m seated next to Luka Couffaine! For at least… 5 hours more!? And I just called him hot! And- And- he said I’m beautiful and talented! And- Oh my God, he asked me for commissions, right? This can’t be real- I-" her feet wiggled uncontrollably and she let out a long squeak. "Ahh… Calm down, Marinette! He’s human- A sexy human, but still human! He’s famous but very friendly, kind and nice. And fun! It’s going to be alright. Just- Avoid his eyes. That’s it. It’s dangerous. Don’t fall in love. You’re not a teenager anymore, you’re over that stage, right? Only a few hours more. You can do it. I CAN DO IT!” She convinced herself with a confident nod and returned to her seat, only to find Luka was gone.

She looked for him from her seat, at her surroundings, but he was nowhere to be found. She sighed in both relief and sadness as she seated.

For some reason, she was missing him. Which was stupid, considering they had just met! But his company was certainly enjoyable... And, moreover, it was FUN. More than she ever remembered having. And not only because she was passionate about fashion or music. It had to do with his aura, his personality, his gentle manners- just... Luka.

“Don’t worry, he’ll be back in a moment” A voice said from in front of her. “My brother is stupid, but he’s a decent person. Treat him well” The purple haired lady winked, beside a petit blond lady.

“Jul-!” She covered her mouth with her hands to stop herself from yelling her name. “And Rose-!?” ' Oh, no! They might have heard what I said too! ' She panicked again and the ladies giggled amused.

“Ignore my sister and her girlfriend” Luka returned, and her face flustered when she noticed how tall and well built he was (not that she didn't know that, but it hit differently in first person). “Can I get back to my seat?” He politely asked, pointing at the window seat.

“Ah-! Yes! Of course!” She stood up so suddenly she tripped and fell on Luka’s chest. She immediately moved away in embarrassment, falling back instead, and Luka had to hold her again to avoid her imminent fall. “I’m sorry!”

“Are you ok?” He asked in concern, and she shyly nodded. Luka reluctantly let go of her and returned to his seat and Marinette settled back to hers.

Wait- Was that a blush on his face?

“Here” Luka offered her an envelope. “I don’t know what your plans in NY are but, here’s a VIP pass to our concert next Sunday. There’s also our contact card inside. I want you to consider the idea of working for us. Your costumes are impressive. We discussed it, and we want you in our team” Marinette had no words- totally speechless. Could she be this lucky? “What do you say?” Luka asked with a hopeful tender smile that made her weak.

“I- I’ll think about it. And- Oh God- I’ll totally be there for your concert” She blushed and Luka smiled kindly at her. Suddenly, she started searching inside her backpack, and took out a business card she offered him. “This is my contact. I- I have a fashion event next Monday. I would love you to come, if you can make it. Send me an email and I’ll get you some passes”

“Wow! That's impressive. I'll try to make it. Thank you, Marinette”

Marinette could hear her heart beating faster. No looking in his eyes, dammit. They kept talking for a while, enjoying their time together until they fell asleep out of exhaustion, Marinette’s head resting on Luka’s shoulder. He woke up earlier than her, but didn’t have the heart to wake her up until lunchtime. She looked like she really needed that rest.

When he left half of his lunch untouched, Marinette scolded him. “You have to eat! You’re too thin! Those abs and arms need consistency! Proteins!” She pointed at a photo of him shirtless and flustered again in embarrassment in realization. “Ah-”

Gosh- it really was fun , Luka thought, chucking. It was hard not to laugh out loud. Everything flowed so naturally it was unbelievable.

Damn. He didn’t want the plane to ever land.

“Marinette” he called, during their coffee time, and she looked back at him, redness still on her cheeks. “The plane will land soon but- Even if you don’t accept our offer… Is it possible for us to meet again? Out of business? Like this?”

Marinette flustered at his implications. “Do- Do you mean-?”

“A date. Would you go on a date with me, Marinette? Or just as friends, if you prefer. I like you, and I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun with anyone else” He took Marinette’s pen and one of his ‘Kitty Section’ contact cards and wrote something behind it. “These are my personal telephone number and email. We'll be in NY until Friday next week. It would make me very happy if you contact me, whenever you prefer, anytime” He said, securing the card in her hands.

Marinette blushed, looked at the card with glowing eyes, and then at his honest loving stare. Was it even possible that the man everyone was gushing about was asking her out? But this had nothing to do with his stage persona. Luka was someone she more than enjoyed spending time with. Naturally, quietly, assuring… She had no doubts about her answer.

“I want to meet you again, too” she stated, and wrote her personal number under his wristband. “I’m free on Wednesday” she shyly smiled, and his smile widened.

“Wednesday is it, then. I'll manage to find the time. Just for you." He smiled happily and only then she realized how deep she had fallen.

Ah- she hadn't wanted to fall in love. What a way to fail her own determination… But she couldn't complain, not at all.

And he felt the same way.

Luka and Marinette's hands locked together, and they lost themselves in each other’s eyes, smiling at each other.

“Why don’t you kiss her already, dumbass?” Juleka called, and Marinette blushed. “He won’t kiss you if you don’t give him proper permission, you know? He’s very considerate despite his looks. Tell him already”

“Jules… Why don’t you mind your business and make out with Rose instead?” He shushed his sister and Rose giggled, embracing Juleka. Luka returned his attention to Marinette. “Sorry about that”

“It’s ok… I-” She started, looking at his thin lips. “Will you kiss me if I want to? Because I think I do...”

“You do?” he asked, and she shyly nodded and he smiled softly, making her heart flutter.

She closed her eyes and he leaned closer to give her a sweet kiss on her cheek. She pouted a little, in disappointment, but he told her that, if she really wanted to kiss him, that would be the perfect excuse to meet him again and make it more special, like a beautiful lady like her deserved. Marinette understood his reasoning and agreed with it, despite the slight disappointment she felt she would have to wait a few days to get the chance to kiss him. Nevertheless, both of them happily smiled while their fingers remained interlaced, chatting and enjoying their time together the rest of the flight, until the plane landed and they had to unavoidably say their farewells.

“Thank you for everything, Luka. I forgot how scared I was of planes thanks to you and- I’ll see you soon?”

“I really hope so. I still owe you something, right?" He winked and she blushed happily. Luka gave her a final discreet and quick kiss on her knuckles. "Gosh- I miss you already...” he said, and Marinette felt the urge to cry. She dropped her bag to hold him in a needed embrace. He gladly reciprocated her gesture. Despite neither wanting to separate, they forced themselves to. "I hope I see you soon, Marinette"

"Me too, Luka…" she wiped her tears and waved, as the band started walking away.

When the arrivals doors opened and all the camera flashes blinded her, she understood why Kitty Section members always wore sunglasses in airports. They were more popular than she could have expected. She understood why he had refused to kiss her outside of the plane, but he still saluted her before disappearing in the multitude of fans and paparazzis.

On the other side, Sabrina, Audrey Bourgeois’ assistant, waited for her. She had almost forgotten about her own business. But now, she found the motivation she had lacked. If she was willing to be with Luka, she had to become the best. She wanted to make a name of herself, more than ever. And her meeting with Luka certainly boosted her confidence.

Unexpectedly, her trip to NY had already become one of her most memorable experiences yet. And it had just started! She couldn't wait to spend the rest of the week in the city.

Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Marinette arrives to NY.

Notes:

Well... I was satisfied with the one shot but I couldn't stop myself from writing more.
I have 5 chapters in total planned, but we'll see if or when I'll finish them... (not soon for sure, considering how long this one has taken me despite being almost finished...)

So... Enjoy?

Chapter 2

As soon as Marinette arrived at the hotel, she let herself fall on the bed. She was exhausted, but at the same time she couldn't stop giggling to herself. She had met Luka Couffaine from Kitty Section! And he invited her out! Twice! To his band's concert and to a date. A date ! And she said yes! To both! And she had also invited him to her fashion show- which was going to be hell but also super exciting! Even more: he said he would try to come! And as if all of this wasn't enough, he also said he wanted to kiss her! Luka Couffaine from Kitty Section- the man of the moment and the sexiest human alive- wanted to kiss her! Her ! Clumsy-disaster-mess Marinette Dupain-Cheng!

' KYAAAH ' Marinette rolled on the bed fuzzing with enthusiasm. She couldn't believe it. She wasn't even wearing her lucky socks, or her favorite cologne, not even her lucky earrings! But she had to be the most fortunate person in the world.

Marinette took the phone out of her pocket and started typing, ' new contact ', and then added the email and telephone number Luka had written down for her. She used one of the selfies they took together on the plane as his profile picture- one in which he wore his sunglasses- and saved the new information.

Her eyes glowed, satisfied, at the new contact in her agenda, with a lovestruck smile. At that time, a message arrived on her phone.

L: 'Hello. Marinette? This is Luka. Just wanted to make sure I got the number right'

M: 'Hi! This is Marinette. Yes, this is the right number! I just put yours on my phone! Thank you for your message. And for today. And everything'

Her reply was sent almost immediately, in a spatz. She was too excited to control herself. Before she could decide what else to say, Luka replied to her text message.

L: Great. I'm glad I didn't get the wrong number

L: I enjoyed our time a lot, so I'm the one who should be thanking you. You're a funny, beautiful lady, Marinette. I'm very glad we met

M: I'm very happy we met, too

Marinette blushed while typing. She wasn't used to lovey-dovey messages. Especially with HOT people like the one and only Luka Couffaine.

L: I'm happy to hear that

L: I could talk to you all day, but you should rest now. A long week awaits you and, for what you told me, you have barely slept in the last two days. I want you to be healthy

Marinette pouted a little. She wanted to keep talking to him instead of sleeping… What if she woke up and everything was just a dream? The idea was terrifying! Before she could start typing, another message arrived.

L: I wouldn't want you to miss our date

Marinette felt the burning up to her ears.

L: I'm looking forward to meeting you again.

L: Oh- and don't forget our offer. I hope you give it a thought.

L: Sweet dreams, Marinette <3

Ok- now that was something: A HEART . He sent her a heart! Marinette squealed. Her own heart beated faster and she could feel those familiar yet long forgotten butterflies on her stomach.

Falling in love.

How was she supposed to sleep when all she could think about was Luka and how beautiful New York looked through the window under her lovestruck sight. Everything glowed pink. Even the boring hotel room seemed to be magically glowing with bubbles and sparkles. She couldn't stop giggling or get Luka out of her head.

She rolled on the bed again so effusively she miscalculated the bed's length and fell down to the floor. 'Ouch' she protested, but soon stared at her phone again with a wide hopeless smile to re-read Luka's messages. She realized 5 minutes had passed since his last message and she hadn't replied yet. She typed in panic.

M: I'm looking forward to seeing you too

M: Sweet dreams <3

Marinette squealed again. She sent him a heart! A heart! An emoji she barely used anymore. She even had to scroll down the list to find it. The thought and possibility of it eventually becoming her most used emoji excited her. Was she going too fast? She was too excited to even consider it!

L: I'll have to dream of you, in that case

L: probably not very difficult when you're already the song in my head ;)

Luka sent her a photo of part of his smiling face with a handwritten paper with a heart and 'Ma-Ma-Marinette <3' written on it. He was on a bed and wearing what she assumed was his pajamas: a white t-shirt with Jagged Stone's logo on it. His muscular arm was showing and almost distracted her from the new message that arrived.

L: Sleep well <3

Marinette squealed again, drooling over his photo with a foolish grin on her face. Her cheeks hurt from smiling so much, but she didn't regret it. Not at all.

She wanted to send him a selfie in return, but when she opened the camera app, she stopped when noticed how messy her hair and makeup were. Of course it would, after more than 8 hours on a plane, rushing to get it, panicking, sleeping on Luka's shoulder, her reunion with Sabrina, the taxi and the check in at the hotel… She decided to take a shower before sleeping and, once finished, she fell asleep before she could even touch her smartphone again.

When Marinette woke up, it was still night time. 'Stupid jet lag!' Marinette groaned. But before anything, she hurried to check her phone. There was a message from Alya, one from Sabrina and another one from her mother. She would check those later. She first needed to make sure her meeting Luka was real- and there it was. His contact, his selfie, his messages… And the heart emoji. She squealed once again.

' It wasn't a dream! ' She fuzzed. Ok- There was no way she could go back to sleep. Instead, she started looking for more information, photos and videos of Kitty Section online. They were indeed gorgeous… All of them. She was so focused that she didn't realize she was literally drooling over Luka's photos.

DAMN . What a way to kill people. So unfair! How is it allowed to be so perfect? Leave something for others, guys!

And yet, under the makeup and stage personas, they were very sweet and fun- totally enjoyable to be with… A few hours later, at work with Audrey Bourgeois in 'Style Queen' building, she could grasp the contrast between people and personalities after meeting the famous stylist in person. How could people so insensitive, cold, arrogant and cruel even exist? In the same world in which gentle, fun and enjoyable Luka existed?

The world was surely unbalanced...

So, in short- dealing with her work at Audrey's was HELL. If it wasn't for the time she could work on her own designs and her part of the show, and for how excited she was to meet Luka again, she would have already jumped from the tall building Audrey's headquarters were in. Ok, no. That was exaggerating (especially with her fear of heights),  but it really was stressful and exhausting, the worst part of it being to have almost no time to talk with Luka, except for 'goodnight', 'good morning', 'rest well' and a few updates of how they were doing.

And heart emojis.

Those tiny digital hearts gave her LIFE and strength to keep going.

Marinette's stress peaked on Sunday. Jet lag was still messing with her sleep schedule, and it was Audrey's turn for the fashion event. Her models would show off her newest style trends and she was going to be successfully acclaimed, like usual. Marinette couldn't help it but respect her for how well she managed to keep her cool despite the pressure she was under. Failure wasn't allowed, she had to keep the high level. And yet, she never faltered to confidently present her newest ideas. Probably being heartless helped, though.

In the end, the event was a mess behind the curtains but a success on stage (mostly thanks to Marinette's work). Audrey received applause and then everyone was invited to celebrate at a fancy hotel. Marinette had tried to turn down the invitation, but Audrey Bourgeois personally insisted and escorted her there. She couldn't escape.

YET

She was glad her sleeves were short so it made it easier to check her clock nervously every five minutes. Kitty Section's concert was in two hours. She had to go! Didn't she deserve a reward? She had to flee!

She still doesn't know how, but she managed to sneak out despite Sabrina's vigilance (probably her being distracted with that Delmar guy helped). Whatever- in a blink of an eye she was already in the taxi towards Kitty Section's concert arena.

She freaked out for a moment when the security guards asked her for her accreditation and she couldn't find it- but it had been her neck since that same morning and that made her feel a little stupid. And soon, she was in. Now she had to find Luka and-

"Marinette! Just in time!" Luka appeared out of nowhere and welcomed her with a tight, needy hug she reciprocated. "Come with me"

Marinette blushed when he held her hand to lead her. Not her wrist, but her hand properly secured under his grip. All her tiredness and stress from the fashion show, wiped away in a moment, easily, as if the butterflies in her stomach were acting like vitamins. It amazed her how Luka had so much power over her. That was totally new.

They reached their backstage room and Kitty Section's members, plus Mylene, waited there with concerned faces.

"Guys, Marinette is here!" Luka raised their hands together and everyone smiled as if they had just received salvation. "Marinette! Our savior!" They all exclaimed, moving closer.

'What's going on…?' Marinette didn't even need to ask before Luka knew what she was going to say.

"I'm sorry to ask you this since you're our guest but… I kind of- suffered a wardrobe malfunction during rehearsal and our stylist quit and took most of our costumes with her and-"

"Your stylist quit?" Marinette blinked.

"That's because Luka wouldn't stop praising Marinette and her work and she got jealous… Everybody knew she had a crush on him..." Juleka interrupted, making Marinette blush. 'Luka said that about her? '

"Well- in my defense, I only said the truth and you all know that. It's not my fault she didn't take it well!" Luka shrugged.

"Yeah- and you're also biased" Rose giggled with Juleka. He couldn't deny it and he didn't plan to either.

"Anyway- We don't have anyone else to rely on, now, Marinette. Could you help us with our outfits, please? We'll pay you as much as you want. We're desperate" Luka pleaded winking with his hands pressed together. "Please?"

How was she supposed to resist the begging faces of them? And Luka's glowing puppy eyes? Impossible!

"Sure. I'll help you" Marinette giggled, and all the members jumped to hug her in gratitude. Soon, she returned to her 'serious work self', confident and demanding. "Ok, let me see what you've got. There's not much time left"

Marinette was astonished at the few amount of clothes they had available. That 'Volpina' sure was cruel, stealing all that…

Juleka, Rose and Mylene helped Marinette, explaining the clothing changes they were expecting to have- one for hard rock, one for pop-rock and another one for ballads and T-shirts for the closure. 4 sets in total.

That was a lot of work, but Marinette was outstanding in her job. And challenges? Oh, she loved them! She studied the photos of their expected outfits and managed to make it work miraculously.

"That should be perfect" she fondly stared at their first round outfits on them. And all the members couldn't believe how she managed to make those in such a little amount of time. They all looked amazing. "Now, what was that about ripped clothes?"

Marinette squeaked at the sight of the broken zipper on Luka's pants, below his long shirt. And the sexy boy smirked full of teasing, knowing exactly what he was doing. Ugh! As if it wasn't bad enough for her poor heart!

Meanwhile, Juleka did all the members' makeup and hair styling. She was insanely good at that and Marinette finally understood why they didn't hire any make-up professional.

The spotlights were bright over Kitty Section, but Marinette doubted they really needed them to shine. Wow...! Their aura surely changed on stage! Charismatic, confident, magnetic... and hot.

As she had already said before: illegal, they should be illegal!

And the way Luka turned to secretly wink or smirk at her from time to time? Marinette was sure that if Mylene hadn't been there to keep her steady, her knees would have already failed to keep her standing.

Heck- Did he really need to be so EXTRA? What a showman!

His hair flip, his partly exposed chest, his electric guitar riff, a high kick to the air… And what was he thinking about running up the stairs where Ivan's drums were and doing a backflip WHILE playing his guitar? What if he got injured?

Crazy

Kitty Section's guitarist, the man she was head over heels with, was crazy. But he was so damn cool, handsome and hot. How was she supposed to resist him when he was so attractive? She fell deeper for him at every movement and breathing he took.

And then, by the end of the concert, he just ripped his shirt off, tearing the clothing, buttons jumping around and his bare chest and abs exposed, while he slid on his knees on the floor, his body leaning back and his just fixed tight pants tearing them once more in the process, exposing his black underwear underneath. AGAIN.

Dead. Marinette was dead.

And most likely in heaven.

That sight live, and from close by with all the music and sensations resonating inside her was outbursting. She had had to really pass out because when she opened her eyes Mylene was holding her and handed her a tissue that ended up being covered with blood coming out of her nose.

How was it even possible for someone to be so- Argh! Everything! Sexy, confident, crazy, hot, kind, sweet, funny…

INCREDIBLE. Out of this world

It was too much for her heart to handle. How could she have been missing them for so long was a mystery and a regret. So many lost opportunities and concerts she could have attended… But if she had known them earlier, her meeting with Luka would most likely never have happened in the same way… Luka admitted he had been especially interested in her because she didn't scream or recognize him. And if she had known him as she does now… The plane's pilot would have alerted the passengers for heavy turbulence as the whole plane would have vibrated with the echo of her loud incoherent, fangirl screaming.

By the end of the concert, they were ecstatic. Adrenaline was rushing through their bodies and fatigue practically forgotten.

"Let's give a round of applause to all the members of the staff too! Come on!" Luka called, signaling all of them to get on the stage. Marinette stayed at the side, looking, but Luka tilted his head to encourage her to join them too. 'Me ?' he could read in her lips. He nodded and she frantically shook her hands in denial, overwhelmed and nervous. Luka laughed and, with a gesture, he asked Mylene to accompany her on-stage.

Marinette blushed at the smile Luka was giving her and when she faced the audience she felt breathless. This is what it felt to be in front of an audience of 5.000 guests.

Wow…

Luka reached to hold and raise her hand. "Give an applause to our stylist for today, Marinette Dupain-Cheng!" Marinette squeaked in panic and looked back at Luka, who winked and let go of her hand to clap. She bowed shyly and after performing one last song, the concert ended...

...but the real encore was about to start.

As soon as the lights closed, Luka pulled Marinette's hand and guided her to one of the upper parts of the stage, where the spotlights rested. Some of the guests were still singing and begging for a second encore, refusing to leave, but most of them were already leaving or had already left. From above, the view was even more impressive.

"Marinette" Luka called, his fingers naturally interlacing with hers. She looked up to him and blushed at his handsomeness. The way he breathed deeply and heavily from exhaustion was making her feel hot and expectant. He really gave it his best. He continued: "I hope this moment is memorable enough, because I really want to kiss you".

She had no words for such sincerity. Her fingers squeezed his and she closed her eyes, giving him silent permission to proceed.

Memorable, he said... But no, it was more than that. It was magical. Miraculous. The perfect first kiss of the lots she hoped they could share from now on. Soft, tender, delicate and loving at first, hungry and more wanting next.

And time stopped.

They kissed, again and again, until their lips were sore.

No regrets, totally worth it.

Luka rested his forehead on hers and they happily smiled. "You're too cute. I could kiss you all day" he confessed, and Marinette flustered again.

"M- me too… I wish time could stop here forever…" she lamented. She didn't need a clock to know it was past the time she should be sleeping.

"I know," Luka empathized, squeezing his hand. "But you have a great deal of work tomorrow and the day after. And even if I'm sure you're going to nail it, you need to stay cool and focused. I'm not going to be the one who ruins your career for a few extra kisses I'm going to give you next Wednesday. If you still want them, of course"

Marinette pouted cutely. "Of course I want them!" And Luka silenced her with another long kiss before speaking again. She felt the corners of his lips rise while kissing.

"Let's go back. Juleka will get mad at us for disappearing" Marinette nodded. "Did you have fun today?"

"The best concert of my life. You're all amazing… But the encore was even better" she gave him a quick kiss on his lips before sticking her tongue out playfully. He smiled fondly and kissed her again, just before they arrived at their room backstage.

Kitty Section stared at them with knowing smiles when they entered hand in hand, lipstick ruined, Marinette's cheeks bright red. "Sorry for being late! Has the after party ended already? Can we join?"

"It's been over for a while, dumbass! Why don't you change your clothes already? The fans are still waiting outside and the security guards are mad and want to go home. The staff is rushing us out"

"Sorry, sorry! I'll hurry up!" He didn't seem sorry at all, Marinette noticed, and her face burned when he took off his shirt before getting in the improvised changing room. "Wait here for a moment, we'll take you to your hotel"

"Oh, no need! I'll take a taxi! I don't want to bother you guys. You must be tired"

"Why don't you stay with us today? I'm sure Luka wouldn't mind sharing his room with you…" Rose suggested.

"Oh, no! I- I can't-" her face burned at the thought. How was her heart supposed to handle so many emotions in one day? Impossible.

"Guys" Luka sighed. "She has her big presentation soon. And she has been working all day. As much as I wished to spend more time with her, I don't want to ruin our favorite fashion designer's career. Think of it as a long investment plan so we can keep seeing her. She can come to our hotel anytime if she becomes our stylist" he winked.

"I'll think about it… I need that fashion show to be a success first" she fanned herself with her hand.

"Of course. And I'm sure it will" he smiled fondly at her.

"Thank you, Luka" she smiled back at him.

"Awwwwww. They are so in love!" Rose fuzzed and Marinette sinked shyly between her shoulders. "So cute!"

She fell asleep as soon as she got in her bed, leaving Luka's photo on the screen, which soon faded to black out of inactivity.

Summary:

Marinette's big day with a surprise.

Chapter 3 - fashion show

Marinette checked the time on the phone: 2:35AM.

It made no sense.

She was exhausted. Not supposedly, but as a fact.

Long working hours, enduring lots of pressure, Kitty section's concert… the adrenaline from kissing Luka…

But then… why?

Why couldn't she sleep?

She had barely rested!

She knew it wasn't only the jet lag.

Nerves .

Her big presentation was approaching, and her heart wouldn't stay calm in fear and anticipation. How was she supposed to calm down when her big day was- in just a few hours, actually?

"I can't sleep," she typed, and sent the message to Luka.

Why did she send it? He would be sleeping at that time. She shouldn't bother him…

She left out a deep sigh, but soon, a message from him arrived. 'Wanna talk?'

A phone call followed.

It had startled Marinette at first, but she picked up at the next tune.

"Luka?"

"Marinette? You can't sleep?"

"I- that's right. I'm sleepy but nothing is working! Tomorrow is my most important day and I have to wake up super early and I'm exhausted and Audrey is gonna fire me if I don't do well and-"

"Shhh… You're nervous, Marinette. It's normal. It's your big day tomorrow. Of course you are!"

Luka made everything sound so easy….

"I've been in a similar situation before. Remember Eurovision?"

She faintly remembered Eurovision. Kitty Section wasn't well-known at the time, but they had lots of eyes and expectations put on them. A big pressure to represent a whole country in front of all Europe. Of course, after a perfect performance, they easily won, earning most of the 'twelve points' from the rest of the countries. And it was that event that catapulted them to global fame… Marinette got shivers just imagine the pressure they must have felt performing in front of such a massive audience.

"Yes… I remember seeing it on the news, mostly hearing it on the radio while working. What did you do to calm down and get some sleep before your big day?" She asked. Luka took two seconds and hummed before answering.

"It may sound uncool, but the truth is that I listened to my mother's lullaby," he confessed.

"What…? A lullaby?" That was unexpected.

"I know it's probably childish, but that's exactly why it works" he chuckled. "Wanna try?"

"I- I don't know…" she wasn't a kid anymore, for lullabies. But what if it worked…? If it was Luka's calming voice... If it was Luka, then-

"Just listen," he cut her thoughts and started singing.

Luka singing ' a capella' was unheard of. He was a rock artist not a ballad one. Ballads were for Rose, but to the designer's surprise, his voice was actually very soft and angelic, healing… Marinette was taken aback, marveled. His singing voice, soft like a whisper in her ears, filled her with calm, love and protection. It didn't take her long to let out a subtle snore that made Luka hang up in relief. "Good night, Marinette" he sent her a kiss through the phone. 'I'm looking forward to your successful presentation tomorrow '.

Both of them dreamed of love and slept with a smile on their faces.

Marinette counted up to ten and sighed. Nothing. She couldn't calm down. Nerves were back as she got her costumes and models ready. She had everything under control, she convinced herself.

Wrong

She sat down, defeated, sinking her face on her hands for a moment. What was she going to do? Everything was going to be a disaster!

"Marinette? Y-you have guests…?" Sabrina called, incredulous. She could recognize those crazy hair colors everywhere.

"Luka! You came!" She tackled him with a hug.

"Of course I came! I wouldn't miss the chance to see our future designer shine" Luka winked, returning her hug. Sabrina's eyes popped open at their unexpected familiarity.

"I'm sorry, I can't stay around. One of the models has injured her leg and another one has been food poisoned and- I'm in a pinch! If I don't find another pair of models soon everything is going to be a total failure…! My dreams, my future-" she panted, anxious.

"Shhh- Calm down, Marinette. Breathe" she did as he told her and relaxed a bit at the weight of his hands on her shoulders. "Good. Now, tell me what you need for the show."

"The two models that are missing." She answered, still hypnotized by his charisma. "But it's impossible to get them in time-!"

"Not if we can have substitutes…" he grinned, signaling Juleka and Rose, who were signing autographs to Sabrina and other members of the staff. Her eyes opened like plates.

"Oh, no no! I can't ask them that! It would be too selfish!" Her hands frantically fused.

"I'm sure they'd love to do it, though. They mentioned before how they would be thrilled to wear your designs" he assured.

"But- I still can't! What if-" she couldn't finish before Luka interrupted her rambling.

"Hey Jules, Rose. How would you feel about going to the catwalk? Marinette needs a pair of extra models."

"We don't mind it at all. As long as it's not very different from our style, we would love to, right?" Juleka answered, waiting for Rose's confirmation.

"She helped us yesterday. Of course we're going to help her if she needs us too!" Rose added happily. "Plus her designs? It's so exciting!" She squealed, jumping to hug Marinette.

She squeaked at the surprise. Would it be ok? Was it even allowed to be this lucky…?

"See? Besides, you don't have to worry, Marinette. They have the experience. They won't fail you" Luka affirmed. "Juleka used to be a model. And well- we all are, in a way"

Marinette knew what he meant: those photoshoots for magazines, music videos, booklets… She had seen enough of them to know. Of course they were professionals.

It seemed too good to be real.

"Maybe I could model for you too, if you want?" Luka offered.

She blushed at the thought. There was that suit… that suit she re-designed at the last minute thinking of him… A suit that wasn't perfect but that would fit him so well… and she wanted to see him wearing it so bad! Was she really allowed to? Luka gave her a questioning look and she blushed.

"Is this a yes? Will you let me model for you?" He smirked.

He defeated her with his smirk. "If you're ok with it… I'd love it" she admitted with a blush.

"Awesome" He grinned. "Show us our outfits and we'll get ready. You focus on your work. We're here to help, not to distract you" he kissed her cheek and she blushed hard.

How was she supposed not to be distracted when he kissed her like that? Focus, Marinette!

Even from behind the stage, Marinette could feel Audrey's intimidating gaze from the first row seat, under her sunglasses.

She gulped. A hand stopped on her shoulder and made her jolt at the contact.

"Marinette, you're trembling. Relax."

"Luka" she turned towards him. She hadn't realized she was trembling. She felt much better with his touch. "I'm so nervous! My future depends on this!"

"You know how we made it where we are, Marinette? It's not because of either talent or luck, even if they do play a role in it. It's because of confidence and perseverance. And you have both, I've witnessed enough to know. That's how I can assure you you're going to do amazing. You are extraordinary, Marinette."

"Luka I-" Marinette blushed.

"Shhh… tell me later." He winked. "Now go, and dazzle all of them with your fantastic creations. Ivan and Mylene are also there, cheering for you from row 3"

Marinette nodded effusively, and Luka's fond smile wasn't missed by Sabrina. Marinette called for her models, and put them all in a circle. She put her hand at the center, and the rest of the members' hands followed.

"Let's do this!"

"Yes!" They raised their hands together.

It was the time for Marinette to dazzle the world.

Throughout the catwalk, Marinette could hear the camera flashes and the "woah" voices from behind the curtains. Her heart beating fast, she stood tall and professional. At Juleka's turn, there was a big commotion.

Marinette's collection was based on flowers, and Juleka's dress was inspired by black lilies. Tight and short, long black gloves, long boots that empathized her long legs and details of violet along the full costume. She wore a big hat and purple and black sunglasses as well. Those sunglasses weren't part of the collection, but part of her show. So she dramatically threw them to the audience when she reached the furthest part of the platform, waved her hair, and turned to go back behind the curtains. The audience lost it in a collective "woah!".

They didn't even have time to confirm with the person next to them if "was that Kitty Section's Juleka?", that a smaller model started walking on the stage. Rose's dress was pink, with a skirt that resembled a tulip. She also wore a little pink hat she squealed over as soon as she saw it. Her platforms were high, and the pose she made at the end stole the audience's heart with her cuteness. "It's Rose! She's so cute!", someone said. "The dress is wonderful and looks perfect on her!" Someone else added. She winked before hiding backstage, making room for the last model of the night: Luka.

If the audience already were at the edge of their seats, now they were absolutely losing it. His suit was inspired by forget-me-not flowers. A secret wish she held for Luka not being just a dream of hers, but someone to stay in her life and memories forever. She had added some golden details and handmade flowers around his lapel and on the asymmetrical suit. The buttons he wore were also handmade and flower shaped. The pale blues tones matched with his hair color, in a beautiful elegance that didn't short on comfort. It fit him like a glove.

In the first row, watching the show next to her mother, Chloe was sinking her nails in her tights in jealousy. ' How could the loser Dupain-Cheng get Kitty Section members to model for her!? ' When approaching, Luka recognized her and directed her a momentarily cold glare. His biggest surprise was when he spotted the person seated behind her: Volpina.

Marinette couldn't stop grinning at how Luka raised his eyebrow, as if mocking them as if saying 'admire this amazing work, because you'll never achieve such outstanding results'

Luka left the stage with a satisfied feeling, while both girls growled in anger amid the audience's loud applause.

Marinette stood there for a moment, watching Luka arrive, so mesmerized she almost forgot she had to go on the stage. The applause intensified when the announcer called her name, her models behind her clapping as well. Marinette blushed a little, but gained all the confidence she needed knowing Kitty Section members had her back.

"Thank you very much" she bowed. She laughed at Ivan's celebratory whistles, accompanied by Mylene's "woohoo". After a few photos, she returned backstage.

Once there, Marinette searched for Luka with her eyes, but before she could move, congratulations from the staff arrived non-stop. Kitty Section members retired to one side, away from the focus. They smiled happily at her success, and when someone on the staff approached Juleka, Luka kindly shoved them away. It was Marinette's time to shine- not theirs, and they didn't plan to make her time of glory go to waste.

"This was an amazing show, Marinette!" Sabrina cried, moved, hugging her friend. "Thank you" the designer kept replying in joy.

The crowd was so loud she didn't hear the high heel steps coming from behind her, even though before even turning back around, the designer could already feel the glacial air behind her neck. Silence formed and the people that surrounded her progressively stepped back. She knew that presence too well: Audrey Bourgeois.

Marinette glanced at Luka, who nodded at her in encouragement and took a deep breath before confidently turning to face her boss.

"Dupain-Cheng" Audrey called, with judging intimidating eyes showing under her slightly descended sunglasses.

"Mrs. Bourgeois" she challenged.

"This was an interesting show…" she started. "The fabrics, the style, the colors, the cut and the details: everything was vibrant and innovative" Marinette nodded. She wanted to say thank you, but Audrey hated being interrupted, so she let her continue. "There is something clear in your collection: you have attitude, vision and creativity. I like that" Marinette nodded, her eyes on hers as she took off her sunglasses. "Just one thing…" her tone became threatening. "I don't think you need to rely on ridiculous celebrities to pull off your designs. The spotlight is yours and only yours. Don't let them take that from you"

"I know" Marinette didn't miss the glare she directed towards Kitty Section- her friends. "It was an emergency, and they were returning a favor. It's not something I plan to willingly repeat. I have total confidence in my skills"

"I see…" Audrey smirked, putting her sunglasses back in place. "I'm pleased to hear that. Having contacts is important, but you need to be able to pull it off without depending on others, otherwise it is ridiculous" Marinette nodded again. "I look forward to seeing more from you," she said, turning to her heels. "Well done."

"Thank you very much" Marinette bowed as her boss left, directing one last warning glare towards Kitty Section.

Not a sound covered the steps of the Style queen as she left, but when she crossed the door, euphoria exploded. "Oh my God, Marinette! Audrey Bourgeois congratulated you! This is incredible!" Sabrina jumped to hug her. "I'm so proud of you!"

Marinette fell to her knees. "I- Did this just happen? Did I really do that…?" She blushed.

"Yes, you did!" Rose said, squealing.

"I can't believe I said all that!! I don't know where that confidence came from- and I had to defend you guys and-"

"We're so proud of you," Sabrina said. "We have to go out and celebrate this success! C'mon guys! Let's go change and get ready to party!"

"Don't forget to call your new boyfriend Delmar, too," Aurora joked.

"Tha- that's not like this! We're not-!" She protested, and everyone laughed at her redness. "A- anyway! Kitty Section is coming too, right?" Sabrina turned towards them.

The band shared looks and it was Luka who spoke. "Sadly, we have to turn down the invitation. We still have some obligations to take care of today"

"Nooooo" some people whined.

"You're not coming then…?" Marinette was close to tears, as she stepped close to Luka. "I wouldn't have made it without you…"

"Of course you would! You said it yourself! You're amazing, Marinette" Luka surrounded her tiny waist and lifted her. "Besides, you've heard Style Queen: it's your day today. You don't need us to shine. Enjoy your moment" He put her back on the floor and she threw herself into his arms.

"I know but I wish you could come… You also have part of the merits. It won't be the same without you…" she lamented.

"Marinette, you're going to ruin the suit you carefully made if you cry on my chest…" Marinette jumped back to wipe her tears and Luka smiled. Close to her ear, he whispered: "We can celebrate your success on Wednesday. You haven't forgotten we have a date, haven't you? I'll make sure to generously congratulate you as you wish and treat you to whatever you want" there was something hot in his tone, but that may have been his mind playing with him. She felt her face burn. "Ok?"

"Ok…" she finally gave up with a bit of sadness.

"Good. I can't wait" Luka lent to kiss her cheek and there was a collective 'kyaaaa' behind her. She was sure steam had to be leaving from her ears. "See you, everyone! Have fun at the party!"

Luka and Kitty Section waved as they moved to change their outfits and leave, their manager hurrying them at the door.

"OMG, Marinette! What was that!?" "Lucky girl!!" "I want a kiss too!"

"Oh, shut up…" the designer mumbled. "Let's get ready for the party, shall we?"

"Ehhh! But we want to know…"

"C'mon guys! Time to celebrate! Hurry up!" There were a few protests, but Sabrina made sure everyone moved. Before Marinette left, she surrounded her shoulder with her arm. "You'll have to tell me everything that's going on with Kitty Section!" Sabrina whispered, and Marinette blushed hard, just in time Luka waved and winked at her as she left through the door.

'I can't wait for Wednesday <3 ' He sent her a message.

'Me neither <3'

Another day for her to remember in New York.

Chapter 4: Wednesday (1)

Sorry for the long wait! This chapter is long, so I decided to split it in 2 (or 3) parts. The next part will take a while (I have a few scenes but not much yet) but the epilogue is mostly finished!

Thank you again for your patience. I hope you enjoy it!

Chapter Text

Chapter 4 - Wednesday

Luka's eyes opened with the first rays of sunlight filtering through the curtains of his 5 star hotel room's window. His smile spread wide on his face as he recalled the date: Wednesday . He jumped out of bed and went to get ready with excitement: today was the day of his long awaited date with Marinette!

He brushed his teeth, thinking of Marinette's kisses. Styled his hair, imagining that Marinette combed it with her fingers, and shaved, hoping Marinette would be able to feel the smoothness of his skin, moisturized by his mandatory cosmetics treatments (thanks Penny…) with her touches and kisses.

Once finished, he sent her a message before going to eat breakfast with his bandmates.

'Good morning'

'Ready for today? I'll come to pick you up at your hotel at 10AM'

'I can't wait to see you <3'

He smiled at the mental image of her waking up to the message with a flustered face and an excited squeal. Unexpectedly, though, she didn't respond to the message instantly like she used to. Maybe she was still sleeping? Or getting ready for their date. Knowing her, probably the latter. Either way, he hoped she had rested well. It had been a long week for her, physically demanding and a rollercoaster of emotions. She deserved some good rest.

Later, when he met with his bandmates and friends for breakfast, they all smiled and teased him for his wide smile and happy humming. Juleka smirked, Rose squealed and Ivan elbowed him. His grin grew even more with their 'good luck' and 'don't mess up' remarks before he left.

Luka was in the hall of his hotel, waiting for his taxi, when his phone buzzed with an incoming call. He beamed at Marinette's name on the screen.

"Good morning! Are you ready? I'll be there in a minute" he answered with a glimpse of excitement.

To his surprise, her voice tone was totally opposite from his.

"Luka! I-I'm sorry but I won't be able to make it today!" She cried. "Audrey Bourgeois wants me here, and I can't leave! I'm so sorry- I was so excited for today and-"

"Wasn't today your day off, Marinette?" His smile had faded. At the same time, his taxi arrived.

"It is, but I can't say no... No one can say 'NO' to Audrey Bourgeois! She has fired people just for blinking at the wrong time! I can't risk it, Luka!"

"Audrey Bourgeois from Style Queen, huh? Say no more"

"Wha-!? Luka? Luka-!? What are you-" Marinette could faintly hear the sound of the hotel's automatic doors closing after him before he hung up. “Luka…?”

Oh, no.

New York's Style Queen building was home of Audrey Bourgeois' most prestigious fashion company. It was on floor 38th, where their newest and most promising trainee's temporary office was. There, said talented young woman couldn't stop nervously tapping her heel on the floor. Audrey had asked for the impossible and Luka… He wasn't happy, that's for sure! And that sound before he ended the call seemed like-

"Marinette Dupain-Cheng" she jumped at Audrey's call. "The magazine editors are waiting in the next room. You have 5 minutes" she let her sunglasses fall so the young woman could see her intimidating, glacial glare. "5 minutes'' she remarked. “No more"

"Understood!" She yelled back, her fingers typing non-stop and the printer was releasing smoke, almost burning. How was she supposed to finish one hour of work in 5 minutes? And Luka… She should be with him right now! Ugh. 'Focus, Marinette!'

The ticking clock drummed loud in her ears, but not loud enough to miss Sabrina's voice coming from the aisle. "Wait-!" She yelled. "You can't get in there! Marinette is-"

The next thing she knew the office door slammed open and Luka made a flamboyant entry, his sunglasses coolly and dramatically taken off (as if he was in that commercial he looked insanely handsome in) and his blue eyes laid on her. "Marinette! There you are!" He beamed, walking towards her desk.

She was at a loss of words for a few seconds (partly hypnotized by charisma, moreover the surprise) but soon rushed to his side. "Luka-! Wha-" gosh, his eyes were glowing and his smile, dazzling. Had this encounter been in other circumstances and she would have jumped to hug him. So unfair… "Why are you here? I have to-"

There was chit-chatting behind her. "Hey, isn't that Luka Couffaine?" "Oh my God! You're right!" And a loud 'kyaaa' that must have been heard by everyone on that floor. Luka smirked.

"We have an appointment, remember?" He leaned towards her. Being considerate about the audience of the office, he avoided the word 'date' for now. His face was very close to Marinette's now reddish face.

"Of course I do but-!"

"It wasn't easy, you know? But I managed to reorganize my schedule for today. Just for “our appointment”" he interrupted. " I don't care what your boss asked you: I'm not going to let her or anyone ruin our business. You have no idea how much I've been waiting for this and how much effort it took to change and make all my schedule fit"

"Luka… I'm so sorry, I-"

"I know it's not your fault, Marinette. It's-"

"What's this unacceptable noise?" Audrey Bourgeois arrived, followed by an apologetic Sabrina. "Who let this man in? Someone, kick him out! Now!" She yelled, but no one moved. She didn't stop there. "And Marinette Dupain-Cheng: it's time for the meeting. Bring everything" she gave an apologetic look to Luka. "What are you waiting for? Now!"

The first step Marinette took towards Audrey, Luka pulled her, his arm around her shoulders.

"Sorry Madam, but Marinette had an appointment with me first. Get in the queue" he challenged with a fierce glare.

"Wha-!?" Her face was red. "This is ridiculous! It seems you don't know who you're talking to! I'm Audrey Bourgeois, Style Queen, and my orders are absolute! Marinette is my employee and she's going to follow my orders if she doesn't want to get fired"

Luka felt Marinette jolt from her boss's threat under his arm. Her hand moved over his, begging him to retreat with a resigned and sad look. He knew she didn't want to get fired. But he also knew she was being overworked and under unbearable pressure.

Threatening Marinette in front of Luka Couffaine hadn't been a good idea.

"I am very well aware of who you are, Madam Bourgeois. But you seem to forget today is Marinette's day off and there's something called worker's rights to back her up. Are you sure you want to be in the news for labor exploiting your assistants?" His grip tightened more around her.

"You really have guts, threatening me. I could ruin you, if I wanted. And I could ruin her career as well, just with snapping my fingers. Are you sure you want that? Wouldn't it be a pity?"

"Luka!" Marinette interfered between their tense air and sparkling glares. "It's ok- I just need to do this work and we'll find another day to meet, or in the afternoon if I end up early? I'll call you later, ok? Please…?" She begged.

She wanted to go with him. He knew that. But she was also scared. He could easily tell from her teary eyes.

Luka looked down, releasing a deep sigh as his arm fell to his side. In front of him, the threatening Audrey Bourgeois. Next to her, the loyal secretary, Sabrina, and him and between them, Marinette.

Once more, Marinette gave Luka an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, Luka, I have to go-" but when he looked back at her, raising his face, Luka… smirked? ‘What?’

"Don't be sorry, Marinette, I know it's not your fault… But you give me no option: I'm kidnapping you!" His strong hand grabbed hers and pulled her behind him. "Run!"

"Wha-!?" Was the almost unanimous response. But she ran, her feet moving on their own, following the man she wanted to be with. She looked back for a moment at the scandalized Audrey Bourgeois but when her eyes met Luka, she knew she didn't want to ever let go of his hand.

"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up-" Luka hissed, repeatedly pressing the elevator button. Marinette couldn't help but chuckle at his impatience. The elevator's door closed just before Sabrina and Audrey reached them.

"I can't believe you!" She laughed. "You're crazy, you know that?"

"I know" his smile widened proudly.

"Audrey is going to kill me!" She feared.

"Not if we're faster!" Luka reassured her. "Nice choice of shoes today, by the way"

"Huh?"

"I don't know what I'd have done if you were wearing high heels like Audrey Bourgeois and her assistant instead of flat shoes" before she could react, the elevator door opened at the basement floor. "Ready to run again?" He winked.

Oh- flat shoes. Would it be a bad moment to tell him she could run with high heels as well?

Either way, for him- for Luka, she felt like she could run to the end of the world.

She knew she shouldn't be having this much fun when escaping her responsibilities, but heck! They had been waiting for this day all week. And he felt exactly the same. They ran for a while, until they got in the first  city bus they encountered.

They panted repeatedly and Marinette couldn't help but chuckle while Luka paid for the tickets.

"What?" He amusedly asked, while sitting by her side. "You thought I was going to let Audrey Bourgeois ruin our date? No way! I've been eager for today since we met on that plane!"

Marinette nudged his arm. "Me too. Thank you for kidnapping me" she grinned, radiant once again. "But I wish I wore the clothes I prepared for the date instead of my work attire… I look awful… and my hair…" She combed what remained of her perfect bun straight down and prepared to tie it in a ponytail. Luka stopped her, placing his hand over hers.

"Leave it like this. Don't tie it" he combed her hair behind her ear. "You look beautiful"

She let her face sink into his shoulder to hide her blushed face from the compliment.

"But my hair is a mess from the run!" She protested.

"You could wear a sack and you'd still be the most beautiful person I know" he chuckled, but Marinette knew that he meant it honestly.

"I don't even want to imagine what Audrey Bourgeois would say if she saw me in that!" She giggled.

"Scandalous! A fashion designer wearing a sack!" Luka’s attempt to imitate Audrey's tone made Marinette laugh loudly.

"Most likely ridiculous, but yes. And what would Kitty section fans say if their favorite group stylist was dressed like that, huh?" She teased back.

"Does this mean you're accepting our offer, Marinette?"

It was hard to say no when he was grinning so hopefully, but she answered honestly. "I- I'm thinking about it. Considering it thoughtfully."

"Thank you" he beamed. "Thank you, Marinette! That alone means a lot. And not only because I want your talent for our band. Having you around would make me very, very happy"

"It would make me happy too," she sincered, shyly.

"Good. Good!!" She swore he had never shown a face so bright in any public appearance of his.

"Oh- we're getting off at the next stop" Luka informed.

"Where are we going?"

"You'll see" he winked, amused. "The first stop is shopping. For a disguise. You're famous now: someone could recognize you"

"Says the rock superstar!"

Her last sentence came out too loud, all the eyes on the bus focused on them. Thankfully, the bus stopped before anyone on the bus actually moved. They laughed together as they got off.

For Luka, shopping with Marinette turned out to be incredibly fun, even more than he had expected. The guitarist smiled fondly as Marinette kept looking for the best clothes and accessories she could find for them, floating through every corner of the shop, touching every texture and admiring every pattern. She was also very cute with her focused expression, he thought. Meanwhile, Luka was looking for sunglasses, since he lost his old ones while escaping from the Style Queen’s building.

The rockstar laughed when she pouted the moment he joked about buying the ugliest glasses he saw around at the store. "You're too handsome for these!" She protested. Offended by his humble unjustified denial of her appreciative words, she pulled his hat down to cover his eyes with a: "stop saying nonsense or I'll get mad!" He hummed, entertained, putting his knit cap back in place. Looking around more, his hands moved to pick up a pair of sunglasses that caught his attention and tried them on.

"Marinette" he tapped her shoulder for her attention.

Her fascinated face said it all. She loved them.

"I'm buying them," he informed her.

Marinette had no objections despite them being pricey: it was undeniable they looked the best on him. They fit him like a glove.

Luka urged Marinette to choose her clothes to be "comfortable and cozy" and to buy sneakers instead of any other type of shoes just “in case they have to run again” he had joked. She noticed some people had started looking their way when he mentioned it. Nervous, she hurried to make her choices in professional, quick mode. She bought, along with a pair of sunglasses, comfortable clothes and sneakers, as he had suggested. The cute part was her choice because, after all: ‘it was a date! With the world's sexiest and most handsome human being! Of course she had to look cute!’ . With a piece of clothing around their necks, extendable to cover their mouths, their disguise was completed.

With Marinette's belongings forgotten at her office, she had no choice but to accept Luka's money. She felt a bit bad for it, since they weren't the cheapest, but Luka assured her it was in his plans to spoil her all day.

She knew he was serious about it and couldn't help but blush deeply. She reluctantly accepted, but that didn't change her mixed feelings of both: wanting to let him spoil her and wanting to spoil him, too.

They walked, chatting and laughing together in the shade of the tall buildings of NYC and, despite being her first time there, Marinette was more interested in Luka than sightseeing. He was equally mesmerized with her.

The surroundings changed when they turned around the corner. She blinked. "Where are we going?" She asked, curious.

"This way" He led her through a mysterious, dark and narrow street. Surprisingly, it didn't scare her- probably because of 'her wonderful companion', she supposed, whom she felt safe with. Finally, a little shop appeared at the end of said street. "Here" he opened the door for her, a bell chiming with the action. The smell of wood and lacquer was the first thing she noticed. Then, her eyes admired the multiple stringed musical instruments hanging on the wall and table, including some unfinished ones. The artistry of whoever made those hand-made instruments was mesmerizing.

"Wow… What is-?" She was about to ask when an old man appeared from the room at the back.

"Welcome-" the man blinked when Luka took off his glasses and opened his arms at him in a ' ta-da ' way. "Luka!" He rushed to hug him. "What a pleasant surprise! I didn't know you were back. How are you doing?"

"I'm great, thank you. Currently on a world tour, so I’m just here to greet you briefly. Sadly, I won't be staying long," he explained.

"Oh, what a pity! I would have loved for you to stay longer and catch up!"

"Me too. I promise I will when I come back next time" the man grumply mumbled something with resignation. He looked at the young woman next. "Marinette, he is Mr Mathieu DuBois, my instructor in the luthier profession"

“Luthier-? So he made all these!? And you learned it too!? Wow!” Marinette gasped. "Nice to meet you! I'm Marinette Dupain-Cheng!"

"Nice to meet you, too, Marinette" she felt his judging eyes on her. "it's rare for Luka to be accompanied…"

“Things have changed since then, Master. It's been years! But tell me, how are you?”

“Oh- same as always, as you can see. Still a bit hurt you decided to follow a different path instead of taking over my shop… but I'll survive" there was conformity in his voice. "Give me a call if you ever want to. This old man wishes for retirement someday soon…”

“I see you’re as healthy as always, since you're trying to convince me again!” Luka laughed. “I don’t have plans to change professions right now. My band is currently achieving amazing things and I'm convinced we have an even brighter future awaiting for us” he looked at Marinette fondly as he said that. “We won't quit, but you know I wouldn’t be anywhere but here if I ever changed my mind”

“I know, I know…” he shrugged. “I’m happy for your success, really. I see your face everywhere nowadays. I just wished my best pupil would take over for me someday. I guess I’ll be the one who will have to keep taking care of the shop for a longer while, in that case” he sighed in defeat.

“Sorry,” Luka lamented.

“It’s ok, I get it: It's important to follow your dreams" Luka nodded in agreement. *And what brings you here? I can tell there’s something else you came here for. Could it be…?” He looked at Marinette, who had been listening attentively without understanding much.

“Yes. That’s exactly it” Luka nodded with an excited grin. “Do you still have it?”

“Of course. Let me bring it to you” Mathieu smiled as he got into his workshop.

“Thanks”

“What’s this about?” Marinette finally asked.

“I used to work here when I lived in the States with my father. I used to want to become a luthier, make stringed musical instruments for people to express their feelings through music in the best possible way. Master wanted me to take over his shop, as you’ve seen, but I guess I have more of my Father’s rockstar blood than I expected” he chuckled at Marinette’s confused face. “I like the life I have now, more than I expected, and I don’t want to change it. At least not yet. Besides…” He leaned closer to Marinette’s face. “It was thanks to this choice that I got to meet you”

Marinette was sure it didn’t escape Mr DuBois how red her face was when he returned, but he didn’t mention it. Soon, he put a guitar on the counter table. Luka beamed at the sight.

“Thank you for taking care of it all this time” Mr DuBois dismissed his thanks as Luka examined the instrument closely. Marinette looked pleased at his focused face- checking the body and playing the strings. “There,” he said, “can I-?”

“Of course. Go ahead”

“Be right back. Give me 5 minutes” he excused himself to Marinette, as he went into the workshop. There was an awkward silence until Mr. DuBois broke it.

“That guitar was made by Luka, from scratch. I told him it’s enough to be a good instrument, but he always felt there was something missing - ‘ heart’, he said. He was determined to make it perfect. He’s pretty stubborn and perfectionist when it comes to music. He was sure he would eventually find it, and I had no doubt he would. And now, it seems he finally did” he looked at Marinette, who blushed at what the old man implied.

She was fascinated with what she had learned. Nothing about Luka being a luthier had ever been in any bio or interview. She felt very fortunate to discover a new incredible part of him.

“Say Marinette, are you Luka’s special one…?”

“Yes!” she jolted. “I mean- We’ve just met recently but… I really want to be”

Was she being too hopeful? Too bold? Mr. DuBois’ intuition was good enough to figure out she was HONEST and PURE, and that’s all he needed to know.

“Take care of him. He’s more sensitive than he looks in those stupid advertisements and interviews”

“I know. And I will” Her conviction pleased the old man, who showed a relieved smile.

“Good”

Marinette had no idea of what Luka did with his guitar, but when he returned, it looked like it GLOWED. And when he gazed at her, lovingly, for a moment and started playing… A wave of feelings hit her directly to the heart.

WOW

She didn’t know much about music, but she didn’t need to. It was so heart-touching, it filled her with warmth.

“How was it?” Luka asked.

Her face of adoration, which equaled his, spoke on her own.

“You really found it” Luka nodded at his Master words. “There’s no reason for the guitar to stay here anymore, then. You can take it with you now”

“Thank you for everything, Master”

Despite the lingering sadness and loneliness from teacher and pupil, satisfaction and pride won. Luka handed him a paycheck he refused, and a VIP pass to his concert he reluctantly took. Marinette chuckled when Luka secretly sneaked the paycheck into the old man’s pocket anyway while they hugged goodbye. The pair left, hand by hand, with the promise of coming back someday.

“Thank you for coming with me, Marinette”

“Thank you for allowing me to come with you. And for the beautiful melody, too. I’m very happy you shared this part of you with me, Luka.” she beamed. “Is that a song for your new album?”

“No. The song is not finished yet. It needs a few adjustments and it won’t be finished until I write down the lyrics. But this song is special. Priceless. Never for commercial use. It’s the song that speaks to me when I’m with you. I hope you listen carefully to it when it’s finished”

“I will. I certainly will” Her eyes glowed, moved and with anticipation.

“Thank you” His hand grip tightened. “Actually… There’s something else I want to ask you”

“What is it?”

“I know I was already selfish taking you here but: would you draw something for me on the guitar?”

“WHAT!? I can’t! IMPOSSIBLE! It took you years to finish it!”

“it wouldn’t be finished if it wasn’t for you. Please?”

He knew well how to disarm her with his puppy eyes. Sneaky…

“Ok… I’ll try”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you! I knew I could count on you! It’s gonna be amazing!” She lifted her and pulled close. “You’re the best, Marinette!”

“L-let me draw it on paper first, ok?”

“Of course! As you wish” he bowed, kissing her knuckles.

“You silly!” She laughed at his gesture, still flustered. “Have you thought of how you are going to repay me?” she teased.

“Oh, I have plenty of ideas” He smirked suggestively, making her immediately blush. “What about lunch first and lots of kisses later?”

“Deal” she grinned, leaning to give her a quick peck on her lips. “Hey!”

“The appetizer. So it makes you wish for more” he nudged her, putting his sunglasses back on and holding her hand while they walked back to the main crowded street.

So unfair… She really wished for many more kisses now!

“Actually-” he started again. “Would it be too much to ask you to come with me somewhere after lunch?”

“Again? You superstars sure are greedy!” she teased to his amusement. “Will I get an extra reward if I do?”

“Of course. Anything you want” his tone wasn’t as innocent anymore.

Now- that was how her tease blew up to her face. She was internally screaming- imagination running wild. And the worst part was he was well aware of his doings! She was glad her scarf covered half her face. Her blush was too vivid.

Chapter 5 - Wednesday (2)

"Did you have to choose a restaurant up to a skyscraper…?" Marinette's voice trembled as she asked and Luka pulled her hand as the elevator door closed. "You know I'm not good with heights…"

"Pffff" he snickered, removing his sunglasses and letting them rest on the neck of his sporty zipped up hoodie jacket. "This is just the 5th floor! You work at Style Queen, which is way higher than this! Aren't you used to it yet?"

"You have no idea! I've been avoiding windows like the plague!" She groaned as she held his arm tighter.

"Really? You seemed fine to me after the concert, though" he smirked, taking off her sunglasses to meet her eyes directly.

"That's because-!" The elevator's door opened at the restaurant floor.

She blushed, her protest muffled in her scarf. How was she supposed to explain she was too focused on him to realize how high the stage lights actually were? And how her adrenaline did the rest? Because when he kissed her like that… nothing else existed. How was she supposed to admit it to him, when he was smirking and waiting for her answer so he could tease her even more? He seemed to know already, anyway.

"Gosh- You're so cute and funny" he chuckled, and proceeded to greet the waiter, who pointed to the table at the end of the restaurant. Marinette's eyes opened wide.

"Wait-! You chose a window table too!? Wasn't this hard enough for my heart!?" She cried.

"It's the best table in the restaurant, Marinette. The one with the best view" Luka smiled, looking directly at her. "At least give it a chance? For me…?"

She hated how weak and unreasonable she became to those begging eyes…

"Okay…"

Slowly, eyes closed and holding Luka's hand tightly, she moved closer to the window. And when she opened them…

"Woah-! It's so beautiful" She had to admit that the view was really impressive and, surprisingly, not scary as she thought. Luka was relieved at her reaction.

"Yes, very beautiful…" he repeated, and when she turned her face to look at him, he was smiling fondly at her. They weren't talking about the same view, she realized, and couldn't help it but feel her face warm.

Luka left the guitar at the side and moved to Marinette's side of the table. The young woman was touched when he took her scarf and jacket, and pulled the chair for her, as a gentleman, aiding her to sit down comfortably. Surely, their sporty clothes weren't the fanciest for the elegant restaurant, but the company couldn't be better.

"Is there anywhere else you want to go later? Any particular place you want to visit? TheEmpire State Building, perhaps?"

"Nooo! I get dizzy just looking at it!!" She hurried to wave her hands in denial.

"What about the Statue of the Liberty? Then we can visit the one in Paris and compare them next time"

"Are you choosing high places on purpose?" She had to admit, though, that the ‘next time’ part sounded very good in her ears…

"Maybe?"

"Tease"

He laughed at her pout.

She wished to capture his contagious laugh and his warm smile and made it exclusive to her forever, even if that was selfish. A video would have to do for now. Except… She didn't have a phone with her! And ' oh!' she recalled why it was and its implications. Style Queen…

"Luka… Can I make a phone call?" She asked. "I left my bag with my belongings at the office…"

"Oh. You’re still worried that Style Queen might fire you?" he asked, reading her. She nodded, concerned. "Don’t worry, Marinette. She won’t. She’s not that stupid to let your talent go to waste or to her competitors" he took out his phone and activated the anonymous mode before handing it to her. "Here"

"Thank you" she took it and dialed a number her fingers seemed to remember out of habit. “Sabrina?”

“Marinette? I was worried!” the assistant answered through the phone.

“Sorry, I forgot my bag at the office, with my phone and everything…”

“Oh, yes, I have it. Don’t worry, tell me where you are and I’ll send it to you as soon as possible”

“Thank you." she sighed, told her the restaurant address and took a deep breath before continuing "Did Mrs Bourgeois…?”

“Wait, Marinette! Audrey want to speak to you”

“Eh!?” she panicked but the way Luka put his hand over his and caressed it softly helped her to relax. “H-hello…?”

“Marinette Dupain-Cheng. I want you tomorrow at my office at 9AM, not a second later than that!”

Marinette blinked, mouth opened wide.

"Then… I’m not fired…?” she looked hopefully at Luka’s reassuring smile.

“HERE AT 9AM! No excuses!”

The call ended.

“I- Luka, I'm-” her eyes got teary.

“You’re not fired. I heard” he smiled tenderly.

“I’m so glad! I was so nervous! So scared!” she held his hand tighter, linking fingers.

“I told you she wouldn’t let your talent go to waste. You know I really want it for my band, too” he kissed her hand and she blushed. "And on my guitar or anywhere, really-"

She really wanted to kiss his lips now. She wanted to- * GROWL *

Her stomach interrupted her thoughts. Her colors vibrated red on her face, and she looked down to hide her embarrassment. Luka chuckled amusedly, never judgmentally.

"Shall we order? I'm starving too," he said.

When the waiter came, Luka refused to hand Marinette the menu, in case prices influenced her choices: he told her he was inviting and he was aware of how considered and an overthinker Marinette was, so he read it out loud instead.

Luka was not going to tell her yet that what she ordered thinking it was cheapest, was actually the most expensive main dish from the menu, which was accompanied with the best and more expensive wine as well- Luka's favorite. He was extra glad to pay for her when she was clearly delighted with the meal.

"Delicious!" She exclaimed at her first bite.

He answered with a nod and both shared a lovingly shared smile. Her smile never failed to warm his heart. She made every dollar worth paying.

Marinette's belongings arrived to the restaurant a few minutes later, their first course finished. She stood up to take her bag from the delivery man and, after confirming everything was inside, she returned to the table with Luka's smile welcoming her.

"Everything okay?"

She nodded at his question. "Yes! I can pay my part now!" she smirked proudly.

"Not if I don't let you"

"Don't you dare!" She pouted at his teasing smirk.

"C'mon, sit down with me"

When she sat down again, Marinette notícied how Luka's sunglasses rested now at the side of the table, beside the window. She narrowed her eyes, checking them closer, from another angle, and...

"Wait-!" She gasped. "I know these! I designed them!" She exclaimed, pointing a finger at the fashionable eyewear.

"You did?" He looked at her in awe. "For the Agreste brand?"

"It was so long ago that I forgot… I won a contest Gabriel Agreste held and- I had no idea they went on sale" she nodded shyly. ' Of course the despicable man sold them under his brand after that contest. Bastard ' she mumbled, too low and unclear that was incomprehensible to Luka.

"Wow. No wonder they did, though. These are so amazing!" He grinned fondly. "I had no idea you designed sunglasses too"

"Uhm, actually…" What would Luka say if she told him she designed Jagged Stone's favorite glasses, too? She wanted to see his surprised face. "I also designed Jagged Stone's shades. You know- those with the Eiffel Tower-"

"My father's favorites!?" He stood up in shock.

Her mouth dropped open. "What?"

"Ah-" he covered his mouth, realizing his slip. A glimpse at her while he sat back down reassured her ears. She blinked a few times, processing.

"Jagged Stone is your father!?" She covered her mouth when he shushed her with his index finger in front of his mouth.

"Shhh"

"Eh? Eh!? But- Eh? Really?" She had wanted to surprise him. She didn't expect to be the one surprised instead.

"Yeah- It's not public information and I prefer it like this". He sighed. "Once I set my goal to pursue music, Dad wanted to help me with my career, but I turned down his offer and refused to use his name or his contacts for it. If I do music, I want to make a name for myself. Be myself, Luka Couffaine, guitarist of Kitty Section- not 'Jagged Stone Junior'. I don't want the audience to be biased with prejudice or expectations. I make my own music. We, my band, make our own music. This is who I am -who we are- and this is how I want it to be. We reached here on our own merits. I don't want my own efforts and skills to be questioned because of my heritage, you know?" he explained. "That's why it's important for me to keep it a secret. Can you do that for me, please?"

"Yes, of course I will. I understand." She nodded. "I won't tell anyone. I promise"

"Thank you" he caressed her hand. Luckily, they were alone at the restaurant.

"No problem... You know? I'm Audrey's apprentice right now, but I want to make a name for myself too, someday. So I can relate to those feelings very well. I hope I can make it"

"You will" he assured. "You're already moving fast and efficiently towards that dream. Your works don't leave anyone indifferent. People- me included- love them, and you've proved it with your latest show's success. If you keep up your hard work, you'll accomplish all your goals. I truly believe that." He caressed her hand. "I support you"

"Thank you…" she blushed at her sweet smile. "I'll do my best"

"But wow- I had no idea you were 'that' Marinette. I heard about you from my father some years ago- only good things, I must add. And Rock Giant is still my favorite of his CD covers. Really- I knew you were talented but you never stop leaving me in awe!"

"It's not that amazing…" she blushed at his admiring eyes.

"Of course it is! What else have you designed? Tell me more"

"Oh, uhm- Let me show you" she took her phone out of her bag and opened the photos, showing him her designs as she talked. "There's Adrien Agreste's feather hat from when I was a teenager and Chloe's golden glitter dress she wore for her graduation… You know? She still thinks her mother made it for her… I'm keeping this secret under my sleeve in case she crosses the line someday" Luka snickered at her mischievous smirk. He had heard enough rumors about Chloe Bourgeois to get an idea of what she meant. "Oh- and here's Clara Nightingale's mask for the song 'miraculous', too" her finger swiped photos on her phone. "This one"

"Wow- all these look amazing"

"It's not-" nervously, she accidentally changed screens and a photo of Luka she took during his concert appeared on the screen. "Ah!" She hurried to swipe the photo away, but another one appeared, now showing a shirtless Luka on stage. The more she tried to fix it, the worse it got. Her blush deepened harder with every slide.

"You like me that much?" Luka chuckled at her failed efforts.

"Don't laugh! It's so embarrassing!"

"It's not embarrassing at all, Marinette. In fact, it makes me very happy to know you've been thinking of me, because I've been thinking of you, too. A lot" she blushed again, calmer. "I think you could get better photos of me, though. These are a bit blurry" Of course they were, how was she supposed to take good photos when she was so excited, vibrating with the audience? "Feel free to ask me if you want more?"

"I do want more… Together…?"

"Together? I'd love that" he held her hand again. "Do you want to take one now? Or later?"

"Later, please. My hair is a mess and I want to look prettier if I have to pose with you. You're too handsome and stand out so much, compared to me…"

"That's not true. You're the prettiest girl I've ever met, Marinette" she blushed deeply. "But sure, we can take them later. Would you show me more of your designs? Maybe even some ideas we could use for the guitar?" He pointed out.

"Sure!" she could only blush as they continued to converse amicably about her designs, his praises never ending.

When they were given the receipt, Marinette proudly took out her credit card. She could pay now! And she wanted to. But then, Luka distracted her and he paid instead, skillfully switching her credit card with his.

"Hey!" She protested when she noticed.

She had wanted to compensate for how he bought her clothes but the moment she noticed the trick was already too late. He laughed and her complaint died in her throat when his hand wrapped hers and he kissed her cheek, leaving a subtle shade of pink on her face in return. "I told you I was going to spoil you today"

He certainly was… in many ways.

....

Close to the restaurant, Central Park was the next place they visited. They laid down on the grass, on a bed made of fallen autumn leaves they created when they mischievously and playfully scraped a pile of them that rested at one side of the road. Hands held, they stared at each other lovingly, in silence, the sun rays softly bathing their skin.

"You're beautiful," he said, staring deep into her eyes- her soul.

"Not as much as you"

"Much more than me"

"Impossible. Besides, I'm not even dressed up for a date… My looks are a mess"

"No, they're not. You're gorgeous"

"Liar"

"I'd never-" He leaned over her, staring, as his fingertips caressing her reddened cheeks. "Can I kiss you, Marinette?"

She hummed, closing her eyes and lifting her chin up in response. She sucked in a breath when he closed the gap between their lips. She pulled him closer, her fingers sinking in the hair at the back of his head. She felt those recently familiar butterflies playing inside her stomach once again...

"More" she whined when he pulled apart.

"More?" He chuckled.

"You promised me lots of kisses…"

"And I absolutely plan to keep that promise" he caressed her cheek. "And much more. But later"

"Now…?" She begged, childishly. Luka found out that her reddened cheeks and her shy look under her lashes were very convincing. Adorable . He answered with a long, deep and hungry kiss that left them feeling hot and panting hard.

"Again" Marinette said, eyes half-closed, arms pulling him to close contact with their lips again.

He hummed happily as he complied.

Kisses continued and their heat raised. She wanted more. And more. And more. She could never get tired of kissing him. And he felt exactly the same.

Marinette moaned when Luka kissed her ear and he felt ashamed of how turned on her voice made him. He kissed her passionately and pressed his body tighter to hers. Her response was to push her body to his too, with a needy whimper that was driving him crazy.

This is why he had wanted to leave kisses for later. He seemed to lose all grasp of reality when it came to her. He had it very hard to stay collected. When their lips crashed, tongues danced together and heartbeats pumped in unison, that's all he heard: the most beautiful melody.

Marinette felt like she was going to overheat when she realized what the hardness pressed on her tight was. She was melting in his arms. The worst? She wanted more. Much more. All of him.

"Mo-"

"Get a room!"

Her whimper died in her throat when a cyclist drove close by very fast, the half-destroyed pile of fallen leaves flying on them with the wind he created with his speed.

The pair stared at each other with wide eyes, the heat of the moment immediately cooled down.

Then, after a few blinking and Luka's snicker, she came out of her trance: they were in a public place! They shouldn't make out in such a place! She had never behaved like that before. So embarrassing!

Luka couldn't hold back his laugh at her changing expressions: shock, acknowledgement, panic and utter embarrassment.

"Pfff- Hahahaha"

And, to her annoyance, it was contagious. She couldn't stop herself from laughing too.

He hugged her tightly- no need to say anything.

No regrets.

"Do you still want more kisses?" He whispered into her reddened ear. She knew he already knew the answer.

"Later" she whispered in a thread of voice.

Pleased, Luka gave her one last peck on her lips before standing up and offering Marinette his hand. She took it, joining his side as they playfully cleaned the leaves from each other's. Snickering and laughing in the process.

Fun.

What happened next had Marinette in stitches.

"Oh my gosh! No way!" She exploded into a loud laugh.

A runner had passed nearby with his Michael Jackson music blasting from his phone. And what could he say? Luka was a huge fan of Michael Jackson. So when he heard the song… he immediately stood up to dance, following the rhythm of the music. And his moves were… well-

"Hahahahaha!"

Marinette's reaction said enough.

That didn't seem to discourage him, though. Mostly the opposite- he kept singing and dancing even more eagerly, making her laugh louder.

"Hahaha! No wonder you never dance in your music videos and performances!" She said between her laughing. "You're so bad!!"

"I'm bad! I'm bad" he started dancing along to a different Michael Jackson's song now, and her laugh volume intensified even more.

"Stop it! I can't believe you! I can't-!" She bent over, her stomach unable to stop laughing at his stiff, embarrassing moves. He didn't care about being ridiculous. And he certainly didn't regret anything when it made Marinette laugh like that. He loved her laugh.

"Okay okay- no dancing then" he shrugged, playfully pretending to be offended.

"You can't call it 'dancing' to that!" She laughed again. "I can't believe you're worse than me!"

"Am I? What about-"

Luka winked and walked a few feet farther, over the smoothly pavemented floor. Marinette looked at him, curious and her eyes opened extra wide, her mouth falling open when the young man started moonwalking masterly.

"What!?" She couldn't believe her eyes. "How!?" The young man continued with a playful smirk on. "Nonono! This is unbelievable! How can you moonwalk so well when you dance like that!?"

He finished with a turn and a smirk before talking again. "Can you moonwalk, Marinette?"

"Of course not! My feet already tangle just by walking. Imagine what a disaster it would be! I'd fall down for sure!"

"Come here, I'll teach you" he approached and offered her his hand. She was a bit uncertain but finally took it and moved with him on the pavement. He taught her the steps. "Now try to do it"

"As if it was that easy!"

"I'm here with you," he smiled.

Those words alone made her feel more secure and confident. So she tried, and it didn't turn out quite right.

"Oh. Not bad! Try again" Luka encouraged.

"Gosh- I'm such a disaster at this!" She protested. "Even worse than your danc- Ah!" She fell backwards, her back crashing on Luka's chest. She blushed at the contract that both refused to break. Luka surrounded his arms around her, burying his nose in her neck. In response, her arms did the same with his. Tenderly, enjoying the contact they were growing more and more familiar with. She turned slightly when she felt his face shift towards hers, sharing a soft kiss that made her knees weak. Fortunately, she couldn't fall when he embraced her so protectively, so secure.

"It takes practice. You'll be able to do it someday" he whispered to her ear. Flustered and warm, she could only nod shyly. "Let's go back there. I wouldn't want you to get injured" She nodded again, following after him under his secured arm around her waist. They sat down, Marinette's head resting on his shoulder as an excuse to feel him close. He leaned his head over hers, too, as he hummed for her, his hand caressing her softly.

"We have time until our next appointment. Let me know if there's anything you want to do or anywhere you want to go?"

"I'm perfectly right, now" she answered."I wouldn't like to be anywhere but here"

"Good. Because me neither"

They shared another sweet kiss as they rested comfortably on the bench, their free hands interlaced and eyes closed, as he hummed her a soft melody. They stayed like that for a few minutes until-

"Luka… Could you-?"

Marinette wasn't sure if asking Luka to play for her, had been a good idea.

"Marinette, woo-ooh! Beautiful amazing girl" Luka excitedly strummed his guitar. "Do you feel like-?" he played nervous notes. "I want you to feel like-" he played playful notes that made Marinette chuckle. He smiled at her reaction. "And if you kiss me, then I'll be-" he played happy, ethereal notes, as if he meant ' in heaven ' with them.

Just a few minutes ago, she had thought it had been a great idea, but she hadn't been expecting him to play so goofily. Honestly, she should have seen it coming when she saw that growing teasing smirk on his face after she answered "surprise me" to his "any specific song?" question. This man was crazy- that, she was sure of. But she certainly didn't hate it. At all. She was, in fact, starting to enjoy it more than she should, even if it surely gave her a second hand embarrassment. Leaving that apart, she still loved his songs: he was insanely good. His fame was absolutely deserved.

Unaware of her inner thoughts and secret praises she wouldn't easily admit, he continued playing, incombustible, encouraged by her laugh, unaware that his sounds were gradually louder along with his excitement.

"Luka!" She blushed. "People are starting to gather and stare!"

He chuckled at that. Being used to the audience, it didn't mean much to him. As long as no one recognized him, of course.

"Someone could-!"

Marinette was interrupted by a little kid running and stopping in front of Luka.

"Hey, guitar man! Play Dinohuggie's song!" The little kid commanded.

"Andy!" A woman who seemed to be the kid's mother frantically called, rushing to the kid and bowing to Luka apologetically. "I'm sorry!" He held the kid's hand. "C'mon Andy, apologize to him"

"No! I want to hear Dinohuggie's song!" The kid protested to his scandalized mother. From her experience with Manon, Marinette felt a bit sorry for her.

"Dinohuggie's song, huh?" Luka hummed, casually. "Okay, remind me how it sounds. Could you sing it for me a bit?" He winked and the kid beamed.

"But-" the mother was about to protest again, but Luka dismissed it easily with a few notes.

Marinette looked as the kid started singing the song, and Luka followed with his guitar. The rockstar knew the character, but he wasn't familiar with the song, since he had only heard it twice during the recording of an interview program. But it was catchy and easy enough for his absolute hearing to pick up the notes and play it. Seeing the energetic pair, more people approached to check on them.

"Yay!" The kid yelled when they reached the final note, and Luka leaned down to give him a high five. "It was so cool!" The kid's eyes glowed. "Play Kitty Section next!"

Marinette gasped, petrified, but Luka remained impassive. She could only find words of respect and admiration for his nerves of steel.

"Oh? You like Kitty Section?" The rockstar chuckled. "Good taste"

Marinette felt a sort of deja vu ….

"Yes! Their songs are the bestest!"

"The bestest…?" his lips curved up proudly. "Nice"

"You look like Luka Couffaine from Kitty Section!" the kid pointed out.

Marinette's heart stopped at the kid's statement. Had he recognized him? ' Oh, no! What if he gets caught in a scandal!? And with someone like me!? The fans are going to be so disappointed and- ' Her negative thoughts stopped very soon, when Luka laughed out loud.

"Really? I've been told that a lot, but I think I'm more handsome and talented than him," he joked.

"No way! That's impossible! I think it's because of your blue hair!" He pointed out. "And that you play the guitar!"

"Oh- that makes sense, little detective!" He ruffled the kid's hair. "I'll try dyeing my hair in another color next time so people don't mistake me with him, then. I think I'll go with pink next. I really like pink" he winked teasingly at Marinette, and she flustered in response.

"Ew, no! Pink is for girls!" He stuck his tongue out. "You're too cool for pink!"

"Pink is very cool! Labeling colors as girly or boyish is so old-fashioned! Not cool at all!" He disagreed. "All colors can be cool if the person wearing them likes them and is proud to wear them! Remember that"

"Hmph!"

"Ok so, Kitty Section…'' Luka straightened his back up again, stretching before getting into it. Andy turned all smiles as he sang along to their most popular song, with a few arrangements and a change of lyrics to adapt it to his little audience. The kid stopped singing to listen amusedly at the new lyrics that now, instead of a group of unicorn cats and a Rock band, mentioned a boy named Andy who had fun playing with Dinohuggie.

The little kid and his mother loved it and Marinette was stunned by the Rockstar's improvising skills. The performance wrapped up with a round of applause. Luka bowed to the audience before he focused on the kid again.

"So cool!" Andy's eyes were sparkling. "I wish Kitty Section had a song about Dinohuggie…" the kid lamented.

"Hmmm… It would be nice if Kitty Section had a song about Dinohuggie, wouldn't it? I bet Rose would love the idea" Luka amusedly chuckled and ducked down again to equal the kid's eyes level.

"I think so too!" Andy beamed. "Play it again! I want you to play more!" The kid yelled loudly, attracting the eyes of even passersby.

"Andy, behave!"

"It's okay, Madam," he said, looking up at her through his sunglasses. Luka laughed at his stubbornness and ruffled the kids' hair. "One last time, ok?"

"Ok!"

Gosh- Luka was good with children too, as if he needed to be more perfect! Marinette's heart beated quickly, imagining him… them… as parents and- ' Aahh!! Not so fast Marinette! You've just met!

The smirk Luka directed to her as he played didn't help her to calm down at all!

He played a bit more until he reached the end of the chorus.

"It was nice playing for you, boy, but we have to go now. We're a bit busy today."

"But-!" He pouted in protest.

"Andy! Stop insisting! Thank him and say goodbye to them!"

"Thank you… and goodbye" the kid had hugged Luka's leg before reaching for his mother's hand and following her to the park's entrance. The rest of the audience started moving away as well.

"Bye!" The kid waved, turning to look at them while walking. Waving back, Luka lifted his sunglasses a bit and the boy let out a loud surprised gasp when he recognized Luka Couffaine from Kitty Section under the shades. "Mom! It really was him!"

Luka and Marinette laughed hearing the boy excitedly talking about Luka and his music. If it wasn't for his mother pulling him, Luka was sure that kid would have run towards him. Soon enough, though, they were out of sight.

"Sorry we got interrupted" sunglasses back in place Luka held Marinette's hand and squeezed it a little. "It's almost time for our next appointment. Shall we go now?"

Marinette nodded, smiling at him softly.

"How could you remain so calm when that kid mentioned your name and your band? I was so nervous! I thought my heart was going to burst out!"

Luka squeezed her hand and laughed at her honesty. "Being confident does wonders, Marinette. Besides…" he pointed at their feet with his finger. "We're prepared to run anytime, aren't we?"

"You're unbelievable!" She pressed her shoulder to him.

She meant it.

Because, gosh- What did she do to deserve meeting this incredible man? He was confident, charismatic, handsome, sincere, caring, fun, sweet… a bit crazy, too, but overall… he was amazing. The most amazing person she had ever met.

Compared to him she was… Simple. Uncool. Ordinary.

How could she be with him when the differences between them were so abysmal? When he was so impressive and she was just… clumsy. Small.

She felt like she didn't deserve him at all…

"Marinette. Are you ok?" Luka asked, noticing her being pensive.

"Ah, yes…" she answered. Luka noticed something was off but decided not to push. "I was just thinking you are truly amazing"

"You're pretty amazing, too, Marinette"

'Am I, though? '

"Thank you" She wasn't sure but hid her insecurities with a forced smile.

Three months later, Andy and his mother were going to be surprised with an unexpected collaboration between Kitty Section and Dinohuggie, with a song for a cereal commercial on TV- featuring lots of pink and a kid called Andy in the lyrics. Said song was going to rock the little ones' world and cause demise to some parents.

Oh, and a certain kid started wearing pink more, always proclaiming how cool the color was.
