Bucky found themself with their head in the toilet for the fourth time that week. It was starting to get concerning—thanks to their serum, they didn't get sick. So their head in the toilet happening four times in one week was abnormal.
They had hidden their sickness from their partners for a few weeks after their period stopped. They took a minute to think about that, and a terrifying thought occurred to them. They got into a disguise so they wouldn't be recognized, and left the apartment in a panic.
Bucky walked to the drugstore down the block from their apartment and went to the back where the tests were stored (they didn't dare think the word; it was too overwhelming). They breathed out through their mouth and picked up three at random, and rushed to the cashier to pay. They just wanted a negative result so they didn't have to tell their partners.
They returned to their shared apartment with Steve and Sam and returned to the bathroom, this time with a greater mission than expelling the contents of their stomach.
Ten minutes later, their timer went off. They didn't bother to rush to silence it; their partners were on a running date.
Positive. All three. Блядь. באַרען. La dracu.
Bucky was knocked up. Up the duff. In trouble. Pregnant. They sobbed. They wanted kids, yeah, but that was pre-Winter Soldier. They had tried a few times with Steve before the war, but nothing had taken. They had never in their wildest dreams imagined that they'd get pregnant at 100 years old. And they didn't know who the father was—it was either Sam or Steve. But they didn't know. And they didn't really care to know. They figured it'd be pretty obvious when the kid exited their womb if it was Black.
But beneath the fear, there lay some excitement. They were excited to be creating life. They were happy their body could be used to create good after decades of only causing pain and suffering. Bucky was excited to meet the child they created with one of their partners. They let a hand spread across their flat stomach, imagining.
They didn't hear the apartment door open. They were alerted to their partners being back by one of them knocking on the bathroom door. "Hey, Buck, you okay?" they heard Steve ask.
Bucky, voice fresh with tears, replied, "I'm fine, Stevie."
Outside the safety of the bathroom went silent for a few moments, and Bucky assumed their partners were having a silent conversation.
They stood up from their spot on the bathtub and immediately felt dizzy. Their vision went spotty and they leaned on the sink to steady themself.
Their efforts were fruitless because the next thing they knew, they were lying down on the bed, being cuddled by Sam and Steve. "I know you're not okay. You've been throwing up for weeks, and you just fainted. What's wrong, love?" Steve asked.
Bucky took their partners' hands and guided them to their midsection. "I'm growin' a baby," they almost whispered.
Sam nodded. "Yeah, honey, we know." Steve glared at them. They quickly amended their statement. "You think me and faer didn't see the piss sticks in the bathroom?"
Steve gulped, obviously nervous. "Do you know whose it is?" Bucky shook their head. "Do you plan on DNA testing to find out?"
Bucky shook their head again. "Nah. It'll be pretty obvious when it comes out, I feel. As far as I'm concerned, we're all parents to this kid. No matter whose it is."
Steve's eyes lit up, and a smile spread across faer face. "You're keeping them?" fae asked.
Bucky nodded. "Yeah. I was absolutely terrified before I took those tests, don’t get me wrong. But I have you two to help me. Idea's not so scary now. And I really like that this body, the very same one that's caused pain to so many people, created life. That is fucking amazing."
Sam took Bucky's hand and brought it to their lips. They kissed it. "I love you so much."
Bucky beamed as Steve kissed their flat stomach. "I love you two. So, so much. I’m so happy I’m having a baby with my two loves.” They took a deep breath. “It’s gonna be scary, and I’m gonna have bad days, but right now, I’m happy.”
Bucky fell asleep being comforted by their partners. They couldn't be happier their partners took it well. And now that the news was shared, it didn't seem as overwhelming. As long as they had Steve and Sam, they knew everything would be okay.
