Chapter Text

May Parker was pretty much the only mother that Peter Parker ever knew since he was too young to remember his own parents before they had died in an accident. She and Ben Parker supported his love for superheroes even if May wasn't thrilled about Tony Stark and superhuman fights putting normal people at risk. She was freaked out when she discovered by accident that Peter was Spider-Man but ended up supporting it even if she wasn't entirely thrilled and blamed Stark more for how he brought Peter into the Civil War, supporting the Sokovia Accords with implications of what it could mean for Peter and how he apparently thought Peter was only worth contacting again when it was to reprimand him for mistakes caused by lack of communication.

On Titan Peter was feeling afraid when he felt whatever was happening and was in Tony's arms when he went away, only to find himself there again with Doctor Strange saying he was needed as the two of them and the Guardians of the Galaxy went through the portal back to Earth to help the Avengers fight Thanos and his army. They won in the end with Tony using the Infinity Stones to snap away Thanos and his army; Tony was close to dying but his own nanites technology combined with the work of Dr Helen Cho managed to save him enough to put him into a coma which he was unlikely to awaken anytime soon.

It was a lot to take in knowing that half of the universe including him had been gone for half a decade and Captain America himself Steve Rogers comforted him saying that he had tracked down his Aunt after finding evidence of his identity after a year. He was told that his Aunt never stopped missing him and was surprised to find out that May had thanked Steve since the visits were more than what Tony had done. Peter was stunned when May said that after he got back Tony never even replied to her messages about wanting to speak about what happened to Peter together; he could understand if Tony had his own family being started but not even a reply?

He was grateful for Tony for the suit and seeing him as the hero he got to see up close at the Stark Expo when he was a kid but now he started to see were May was coming from with her criticisms. But with Tony risking possible death to save all of reality; he didn't know what to think.

Peter was stunned to find out that she had remarried and needed half an hour to himself after that to think for himself; he needed to remind himself that a few hours to him were five years to May. That she would be able to move on from Uncle Ben; if she did it would not be like she would have a short list of admirers...

Dr Strange came to Peter and said he would take him to see her himself, Peter had changed into a pair of clothes provided to him after Dr Strange had gotten his old backpack for him from its hiding spot (collecting dust for 5 years?). He braced himself as Dr Strange opened up the portal which they entered to the reception area of Metro-General Hospital which was hectic to put it lightly as the staff were trying saint like patience to deal with their unexpected guests:

"I am on the register to discuss my upcoming surgery!"

"I was told that I would be able to visit my mother in five minutes!"

"What is with the calendar here?"

Dr Christine Palmer was spotted by Dr Strange and he went up to her, "Stephen! It's been so long but I can't exactly catch up... We are in kind of a breakdown here with these people suddenly appearing and I think your brand of mysticism will only make things worse..." She said but Strange stopped her from leaving.

"Christine, if possible I have a visitor for Mrs Parker-Lewis who I think she would need to see..." Strange told her calmly as she looked at Peter and was stunned.

"She has a busy day and was about to check out early with her husband before everything went down anyway and they were getting ready to check out before they get too overwhelmed anyway... I will get them..." Christine muttered as she ran off as Peter faced her.

"So... Do you know her..." Peter asked trying to think of something to make conversation with Stephen before he gets reunited with his Aunt.

"Former co-worker and ex-girlfriend; used to work here but a car accident ended my career and led me on the path to becoming a Master of the Mystic Arts." Stephen explained. Suddenly a woman that Peter instantly recognised as his Aunt May came running through the hall looking stressed out.

"Okay; things have been overwhelming and I don't think I could be much help or else I would just drop through exhaustion so can you please make it quick what you want to see me about so I can go home..." May said before pausing with a stop as she noticed Peter and recognised him as her face was frozen. "Peter?" May asked looking like she was scared this was a dream.

Peter gave a nervous smile as he said "Hi May; long story short but the Avengers brought us all back..." May rushed in for a hug which Peter returned which seemed to go on forever. Stephen made his leave as they let go and there was an awestruck man who looked like this guy from a TV show that Peter had glanced at on the TV before called My Boys.

"Peter; this... Is my husband Dan and Dan... This is Peter..." May told them as Dan eagerly took Peter's hand to shake.

"So you are the famous Peter Parker; it's so good to meet you and there is so much to talk about so let's wait until we get home." Dan told him with a smile as Peter looked hesitant. They left and Dan drove the car as Peter listened on as Dan spoke of how they met when he transferred to New York from San Francisco after the Blip which apparently what everyone called what had happened.

"Peter; I want to get this off my back first but it's perfectly alright if I am just Dan to you, no need to feel pressured to call me Uncle Dan or anything." Dan said as Peter felt at more easy as it seemed that Dan was trying to welcome him. "Plus do you want to discuss curfew about how long you are allowed out if you still want to be Spider-Man?" Dan asked and what happened made him think that he made a horrible mistake.

"WHAT THE FUCK? HE KNOWS?" Peter had screamed and May was glaring at Dan who jumped in his seat and just barely stopped at a traffic light.

"Okay, I probably should have done that more gently at a more appropriate time... Don't worry as May didn't want to let me know but among your old stuff I was marvelling at your gadgets which included your old web-shooters and I couldn't help fiddling with it to see what it does and the web came out and I found your old costume..." Dan explained.

They arrived at a modest looking house and they showed him inside and was led to a bedroom on the top floor, "May never gave up hope that you and everyone could come back so we put all your stuff in this room and added a few things in there so I hope you can make yourself home..." Dan told him as he opened the door and Peter saw his stuff from his old room in the apartment in there along with the posters and some Spider-Man figures on a drawer. He found a box with his action figures it and the junk that he had scavenged to work on.

Peter gave May another hug which she told him "welcome home Peter..."

"Just earlier in the week we got the only verdict that should ever come out of the case of Peter Parker in the charges of the murder of Mysterio and the terrorism charges for what happened in London: that is Not Guilty on all charges! Let me give you my abridged account of all the events: it turns out that the so called multidimensional warrior Mysterio was the ringleader of a band of disgruntled ex-Stark employees putting on the most elaborate special effects show in history while trying to create the next big superhero. Spider-Man gotten on to their whole scheme so they planned to kill him along with countless more in London for their big finale and when it failed they framed him for the whole thing and released his identity plus doctored footage to one of the biggest contributors to online fake news in the Daily Bugle. Well don't say that the Avengers don't look after their own as the Mysterio crew and Mysterio himself who faked his death was caught and evidence of their scheme was shown in court. A scheme with plenty of holes in it like we are supposed to ignore how their big Elemental hologram glitched out or yet the Elementals were still real but a 16 year old was able to get his hand on armed drones at the scenery to get rid of him? Will justice has prevailed, the Parker kid is free and the Mysterio crew are now facing charges of terrorism from not just the British government but the governments of all the countries where they played their Elemental hoaxes. I have talked to Murdock the kid's lawyer and I have been offered to be brought into the planned lawsuit against Jameson for his slanderous remarks against the kid and myself for my continued defence."

Peter, May and Dan were sitted on a couch glad that the business with dealing with the aftermath of Mysterio was finally over. Still with some repercussions as they were now staying at the rebuilt Avengers Facility and now Peter needed to be homeschooled in a sense with a webcam connected to his classes because he would be hounded by fellow students nonstop. He still got to meet with his friends though as they had a lot to go over in regards to them knowing his identity now except for those who already knew like Ned and MJ.

"Didn't this guy get into trouble for accusing Carlton Drake to his face of doing human experimentation with little sources even if he was correct? Plus didn't he get kicked out of the Daily Globe for reporting that a serial confessor was a serial killer the very day the police caught the real one?" May asked as Dan faced him as they were watching the Eddie Brock Report a San Francisco news program that was available on their TV.

"Come on now May; Eddie cares for the people and he may have made some mistakes but he was Peter's biggest defender in the news during all this." Dan told him and May sighed as Peter smiled at him; he had gotten used to Dan pretty quickly and was happy for May even if he couldn't bring himself to call him Uncle. Peter was also grateful for the support that he had gotten from Eddie Brock; Dan had talked about being a big fan of the show when he lived in San Francisco.

"Don't get me wrong; I am grateful but I just wouldn't have him as the first choice for vocal supporters." May replied as they watched the remainder of the program.

"That's all for today but for those loyal watchers dreading that after all this excitement of the Parker case that the next episodes will be a letdown in comparison; I promise you that I will off on reporting the hard hitting news! Next time look forward to hearing me talk to eye witnesses of San Francisco's supposed lethal protector, from what I hear this guy has a literal taste for the scum that threaten the helpless and innocent civilians that just want to go about their lives. I will be speaking to people that claim that there is a supposed underground city underneath Golden Gate Park and you will get to hear details of my latest interview with the infamous Cletus Kasady. All I will say for now is that I just glad that the staff at Ravencroft allowed his hair to be shaved as he looked like a clown before..."

"He rags on the Bugle for their fake news but he wants to talk about a secret city underneath San Francisco?" May asked incredulously as she turned off the TV.

"Half of all live disappeared for five years and now Asgard is a Norwegian town on Earth so how is this harder to believe?" Dan replied and May hated that she had no retort. Peter said he wanted to go and work in the lab for a minute and they told him not to work for too long.

With the Avengers now officially active yet; the heroes who were at the final battle against Thanos were now using the rebuilt Facility as a meeting place to exchange stories and information, plus get ready for if the Avengers were needed as a full team yet. He met with Cassie Lang who would hang around when her dad Scott Lang was there. It was nice having someone to talk to the Facility around his age (relatively speaking since she wasn't Blipped) when Ned and MJ weren't there; plus he could relate to getting used to his mother figure remarrying since her parents were divorced and her Mum remarried. "So Peter, gave any thought to my suggestion?" Cassie greeted with a smile and Peter shook his head.

"About me stealing your dad's suit so I could reverse engineer it for you? Don't think it's a good idea as trust me I know from experience it's not a good idea for someone our age or younger to be messing about with advanced technology, especially since I just got found not guilty on terrorism charges and I don't need any anymore bad press which I am sure I would get if because of me Ant Man's daughter shrinked into oblivion or destroyed the Facility as giant monster sized..." Peter muttered and Cassie moaned.

"Total killjoy, I would be a great partner to you or dad, I got costume ideas down and a possible name..." Cassie told him but paused as they saw the White Vision go through the walls to face him. Peter knew from the news something happened in the town of Westview which involved Wanda Maximoff having a mental breakdown and was now MIA, the director of the research government organisation SWORD got arrested and somehow Vision was rebuilt. Cassie had told Peter that the main FBI agent in the case was her dad's former probation officer who had gave the most boring lecture ever to her and she was like 20% sure that he was crushing on her dad. Peter never got a chance to really meet the Vision and when he started coming to the Facility lately in a white body he seemed to be more concerned about contemplating his existence. Attempts to talk to him made him say that he was both is and not the real Vision and the staff and Avengers just let him be.

"I must warn you that I found a guest walking the halls in a rush to meet you Mr Parker." Vision told him before leaving to their confusion, they heard voices and found coming up to their back was a smiling Tony Stark using leg braces similar to the ones used by James Rhodes.

"Hey Underoos!" Tony said smiling with a wave as Cassie was stunned and Peter started... Laughing?

"Real funny Talos, I get if you wanted to lighten the mood after I was found not guilty of the disaster that you handled badly but I just want to relax working in the lab." Peter told him with Tony wide eyed.

THE PREVIOUS NIGHT

In an apartment building in Hell's Kitchen; New York the tenants were asleep as the windows of a floor opened up and in came people wearing bulletproof vests, holding rifles and wearing dark purple masks. They went to work finding individuals in rooms and shooting them in their beds waking up the tenants of the apartment who became running out screaming as chaos had erupted.

One woman tried the fire escape but then down came a man in a bulletproof vest and a white mask with black goggles as two other men in the purple masks caught her to prevent her from escaping. "Angeline Kutter, you and the rest were turned to dust and the Avengers destroyed the work of the great Thanos by bringing you all back. I am rectifying it right now." The man said as he used a boomerang to slice her throat as the police came.

He went with the other two to quickly escape on a helicopter while the others in masks did their best to escape but were mostly caught. One of them as she was being unmasked, cuffed, read her rights and dragged to the police car; "You can't stop our sacred mission; we are the Children of Thanos and we are inevitable!" she yelled defiantly.

RIGHT NOW

Tony Stark had hated having to spend the time recovering from his coma in bed once he had awakened but Pepper had insisted; he only really had Pepper, Morgan who was excited for her father to be awake, Happy and Rhodey as visitors along with his doctors. He caught up with Pepper and Morgan on what is happening with Pepper explaining that she was having Stark Industries helping people recover to half of the universe coming back and Tony thought it was nice.

Tony was taking aback about learning that his student Peter Parker was being accused of murdering some sort of interdimensional superhero called Mysterio and stacking London with drones from EDITH. He remembered setting it aside for Peter upon his death to help him be his successor and it seemed to have been found by some alien taking Fury's place while he was on vacation in space or something.

Pepper wasn't thrilled about learning of EDITH's existence and Tony wanted to know about this Mysterio guy. He recovered while learning of news of the case and thankful for the support Peter was being given; he hated not being able to help directly as he kept insisting that he did. Apparently Mysterio was a fraud and somehow he and his crew had gotten their hands on his BARF technology.

Pepper was exasperated to see that Tony didn't recognise the face of Mysterio unmasked and spelled it out that the man Quentin Beck had access to the technology because he invented it; he was given the folder documenting his employment about how he was vocal about hating the work in progress name Tony gave him and was self absorbed with him firing. Over five years and Tony could barely remember much about him plus the former workers of his working with the guy including the main guy Obadiah Stane had put in charge of trying to reverse engineering the Arc Reactor as well as building the giant suit that Stane used.

Tony was happy about Peter being found not guilty and figured he was recovered enough to go and see about meeting him again which Pepper was against any time soon; Tony figured that it needed to be done as soon as possible and found Pepper's behaviour weird. He had managed to convince her to spend some time at the rebuilt Avengers Facility with her as well which he read that Peter was staying (she knew what he wanted to do but she was firm that he would only be able to put in a message to Peter that he was alright and see if he was interested in talking). However Tony wanted to take advantage of Pepper being busy for a moment playing a game with Morgan.

He had went to the lab where he read that Peter spent his time to find the Vision there back not only operational but colored white? He didn't want to look into it too much as he left and honestly; there was not much affection he had towards the Vision after he came online since he was a mixture of the remains of JARVIS and a bit of Ultron; his JARVIS AI was dead.

He was excited when Peter was at the door but confusing him for Talos the shape shifting alien, "Underoos; remember about when we were on that ship and you used a plan from Aliens to kill Alien Squidward?" Tony asked as Peter looked like he was panicking.

"Any available Avengers; Captain Sam Wilson wants to see you in the debriefing room." FRIDAY said through the intercom and Peter silently thanked both Sam and Friday. Peter quickly gave a quick word saying nice to know he is up and alright but then left.

"Why did I think it was a good idea to leave you to yourself for a second here?" Pepper asked running up to Tony holding Morgan.

"Hey Pep and Morgan; sorry I couldn't help myself but is Peter alright? He seems to be scared to be around me?" Tony asked as Pepper sighed.

"Peter has been through a lot; he is only now officially a free man, he had to deal with his new life since being Blipped back and the new family situation once he found out his aunt remarried..." Pepper said as Tony was taken aback. "Yes; May married a co-worker called Dan Lewis and well they don't have the best opinion of you..." Pepper tried to explain.

"They hate your guts." Cassie said as Tony had only now realised that she was there.

Peter was with the Vision, Scott Lang, Hope Van Dyne, Bruce Banner, Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson in his Captain America uniform who was leading this mission as the unofficial leader of the Avengers. He had holograms lifted up of the arrests of the people in purple masks. "Please bare with me as I explain what I have dug up on these guys; their origins are quite like the Watchdogs if you remember them but not on the same scale or the backing. They are known as the Children of Thanos and like the Flag Smashers they too believe that life was better during the 5 years of the Blip but their methods are less like attacking government facilities and playing Robin Hood and more killing those who were Blipped." Sam explained with many surprise from them.

"They pretty much worship Thanos as a cult; during the Blip the started on message boards and sites. Their forums getting pulled down and they kept being flagged for saying life was better with people trying to work together while ignoring how miserable the atmosphere was. They were happy about their lives being improved by chance and began revelling Thanos as their god. Things got worse after everyone came back; their rants and forums got taken down and the members kept being permanently banned as well as flagged. Online harassment against anyone they could find who had came back and hounding online groups dedicated to helping those who came back. People joined in who just hated the Avengers and wanted to revel in their first tremendous loss in a world threatening situation despite all the consequences. They had started to move to killing and becoming a full on terrorist group but with little organisation, resources or even super soldiers. The sector in the state of New York is the most organised of the lot. Even then; they don't have much in trying to escape." Sam explained and the assembled were taken aback.

They were shown videos of the man in the white mask killing people with his boomerangs before managing to escape. "This guy is like the face of the New York sect of the Children of Thanos; he posted a video masking himself for his cause and it ended with him killing his first victim. People are nicknaming him Boomerang and the video was taken down within the hour and once the body was found in the location with the guy gone an arrest warrant was soon out." Sam continued to explain.

He got up the guy's file saying "Fred Myers; a not bad washed up disgraced baseball player who got caught betting on his own games. He struck it big during the Blip selling his Blipped dad's home and using all the money as well as his inheritance to start his own business which he was managing quite well. Was well off but then everyone came back."

"So; did he have to give his dad what he inherited back?" Scott asked and Sam gave a humourless laugh.

"That and so much worst as this was one of the first big cases in New York after everyone came back. His old man insisted that the house and money was to go to Fred's brother's family and sure enough they looked into it and the will was forged." Sam explained and they were all appalled at best. "Yeah; Fred got sued by his family as well as the family he had sold the home too after they were evicted saying that the home seller never had any legal right to the house they were living in for 5 years. Fred lost spectacular in the cases and his business was closed down with him left not with a penny to his name. He kept blaming the Avengers in interviews and in the court cases where he was harshly reprimanded. By the time of the video; he was staying with an old childhood friend in a terrible apartment out of nothing more than sheer pity." Sam explained as their disgust for the man grew.

"How exactly is he killing people with boomerangs?" Peter asked as the Vision stepped in.

"Is more the boomerangs themselves; the Children of Thanos had friends in black market which had remains of what was sold by the operations of Adrian Toomes." Vision explained and Peter remembered all too well. "Metal scavenged from the Chitauri ships able to cut through almost anything; the FBI found the reports of the material being sold to a group Myers was affiliated with after busting a black market deal." The Vision continued on.

"I would be careful out there; especially those who were Blipped and have their identities known." Sam said as Peter sighed as nothing was ever easy for him anymore.
