Not a Basket Case

Summary:

It has been ten years since Kagami and Kagome had seen each other, and both have changed. But neither thought that they'd see the other as they attended the same High School, Seirin High. And due to circumstances, the cousins are sharing an apartment, and the duo tends to turn things upside down and inside out. Because two like-minded, driven, stubborn people are like two bulls in a china shop, there is little that can stop them. Yet, it intrigues those around them to see how they interact and integrate with the world around them, as they learn that there is a gravitational field that sucks them all in.

Notes:

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or its characters; that right belongs to Rumiko Takahashi. Nor do I own Kuroko no Basket or its characters; that right belongs to Tadatoshi Fujimaki.

Author's Notes: Revisiting one of the few sports Manga I love to pieces (yes, I know there is an anime, and it is good, but I prefer the manga, thank you very much), came up with this little piece that had me cracking up. The level of notes and OCD that went into this for a sleep-deprived ADHD person scared me.

EXTRA NOTES!~ This story will be very slow to update, and it will be random. I am still trying to finish up my main bulk of stories (Of which there are 38 active stories).

Chapter Text

Kagome looked up at the school, sucking her bottom lip between her teeth, and worried it. She was ready to start High School, and she had busted her but to make grades and be able even to enter. It was not her first choice, but since it was a new school, Seirin was accommodating as long as she didn't slack off and drop below a high C average in all her classes. Letting her eyes glancing around, she noted all the students were filing in to go to their classes, now used to the routine after starting a week ago on the first day.

Absorbed in her thoughts, Kagome let out a fairly loud shriek when she finally felt the presence of someone behind her. Stiffening and spinning around, Kagome looked almost directly into a pair of brown eyes. It took a few seconds for her to calm down, and then she realized that the person was a girl (like herself) and practically the same height. Feeling sheepish, Kagome let her eyes drop.

"Ah, sorry for blocking your way," Kagome spoke as she gave a small bow at the waist.

"It's alright, but class will be starting soon."

"Uh, yeah. Do you think you can help me?" Kagome asked, staying bowed. "Today is technically my first day."

The girl gave a small hum, causing Kagome to lift her head slightly and look at her. She took note that she had short brown hair pinned off to the left side with two barrettes.

"Oh, you're that student, huh? Well, follow me. I am a second year, Aida Riko; nice to meet you," the girl said, giving a small smile. "Follow me."

"Thank you, Aida-sempai," Kagome stated softly as she righted herself. "I hope I can fit in at Seirin and get to see my cousin."

Kagome didn't see the slight pause in Riko's steps at her words as she looked around the school's courtyard. She had expectations of what she wanted her High School life would be like but knew it wouldn't be a simple walk in the park. Nope. She had been handed a blow at the end of her school year last year when a familiar face from her past walked in along with someone else that seemed to coo over her, leaving Kagome feeling a bit off-put.

Kagami felt a shiver run down his spine as he sat in his seat. If he had to describe it, it was like a chilling premonition that a ghost had walked through him, which wasn't a good thing as he didn't really like ghosts. The past few days had been him on edge. Especially after he had done his initiation into the Basketball club, he was more scared of Riko Aida than the school's teaching staff.

"Kagami?"

Blinking and looking over at Kuroko, Kagami just shrugged his shoulders at the unasked question. He didn't know what caused him to feel like that but knew something would happen. If not today, but soon. Soon the bell rang, and the door to the classroom opened, and the Class president was calling for them to stand and bow. He'd not think too much about it since it would be more prudent to focus on the team practice session that Riko had outlined for them that started tomorrow due to members attending either other clubs or committees. Something he didn't see the point in doing as it would detract from basketball.

"This is the first meeting of the library committee; I would like you all to stand one at a time and introduce yourselves, please."

The room was quiet until the person to the right of the head of the Library committee. Each person gave their name and year, a lot of them returning for a second time. Then it came to the last few, and all eyes were looking at them.

"I am Koiki Furihata. First-year. Member of the Basketball Club."

A small round of welcome was given before the next two spoke. It was quiet as it seemed to wind down.

"Ah, I am Tetsuya Kuroko. First-year. Also a member of the Basketball club."

The surprised gasps and one shriek from a second year sitting next to Kuroko, who had apparently not realized he was there. Once everything settled down, the door to the library was opened, and the teacher in charge of monitoring the committee stepped aside to reveal to all those present a petite raven-haired girl.

"Everyone, this is Kagome Higurashi. She will be on to help out with tasks but isn't joining. Please treat her well."

The way everyone looked at the girl, who was most definitely a first-year, had her face aflame.

"Of course, sensei. But why won't she be joining?"

"There are special circumstances, and she has expressed an interest in the Archery Club. Says she is rather good with a bow and arrow."

Several of the gazes turned skeptical as they looked at her. At the same time, others seemed mildly amused and curious about the special circumstances .

"That is all. If introductions are done, then you all should head home before it gets too late."

With those words, everyone stood up and bowed politely to the teacher and began to file out, leaving Kagome standing there with the teacher. None of them noticed her gaze focusing on a single person as a small smile appeared briefly on her face.
