Chapter Text
Diluc had been gone for a long while after his fathers dead and came back only a barely a year ago. He was an absolutely different guy than he used to be. He used to have a temper and all but, he seemed in a bad mood nearly all the time. No one sees him smile anymore and he stays far from the knights.
His sudden personality change was concerning but, losing a father was no little deal. Crepus was always so good to him and his brother. Speaking of his brother, what happened between the two. Why do they no longer talk with each other. They used to be as close as can be now, they just argue over the littlest of things when they do speak with each other.
Kaeya has moved on from the past and became the captain Calvary and hangs around Jean a lot. Some rumor they are even lovers but, Lisa makes sure to shut that down. It’s unfortunate how time flies by and life goes on. Was diluc stuck in the past or did he move on to quickly?
He sighed to himself as he sat up in his bed. He rubbed his eyes and made his way to the bathroom. He looked in the mirror.. his hair was an absolute mess. It was like a red birds nest. He decided to take a bath first to get himself cleaned up from last night. During knights, he likes to keep the city of mondstadt safe. He will never consider himself a disgusting knight but, does he miss the memories. He shook his head and started up the bath.
Once he was fresh, he made his way out already. He promised the traveler to help him out with his commissions. The traveler has always been so good to the city and even other nations. It’s only right to help him out. He’s a good friend too.
He told Elzer and Adelinde goodbye before he left. He didn’t have any interest in breakfast because he had more important things to do than eat. The traveler told him to meet up with them in Springvale which isn’t too far of a walk. He didn’t mind it anyway. It was a beautiful day outside today.
Once he met up with Aether, he saw kaeya and Jean as well. He felt immediate dread. He does not want to be working with the knights.. especially kaeya. He didn’t want to show any discomfort or anything though.
“What was the commission you needed help with, traveler?” Diluc asked, ready to fight anything for the traveler. Aether brought them to somewhere nearby with two hilichurl towers.
Kaeya and Jean fought together so well, diluc felt so distance. He did what he had to do as well.. of course.
“I find this far more entertaining than paper work, don’t you?” Kaeya said as he shot ice at one of the hilichurls. He was always better at sword fighting than diluc and far faster. Diluc prefers to use a claymore even if it affects speed.
Jean laughed softly, “Maybe so but, there’s always little things I have to do as well. Find somebody’s cat or even help someone home after getting drunk in the middle of the afternoon. Fighting is a nice change of pace though.” She stated, healing herself and the traveler.
So much has changed and Diluc never got to grasp onto that like everyone else did. He knocked down one of the hilichurl towers with no problem. He didn’t need much help anyway. He was here to support traveler and no one else. He didn’t mind helping Jean out either though. He would be lying if he said he didn’t care if kaeya got hurt. He just tended to put on that kind of act though.
“Mm.. yes. Your work as grandmaster must be quite stressful even without the paper work.” Kaeya moved out of the way as a milchurl came charging towards them which is where Diluc comes in and uses his pyro vision to burn the shield.
Aether realized how well they worked together and has many times before which is why he loves having them on commissions with him. He invites Jean because she deserves to do something better than paper work or finding lost animals.
Once they completed the rest of his commissions with him, diluc watching Jean and Kaeya joke with each other and sometimes Aether joining in with Paimon. Jean had left though and now he felt it was time to go.
“I am glad to be of help for you anytime traveler but it seems I have to go now.” Diluc told him, wanting to get away. Kaeya had to open his big mouth about that, of course.
“Oh come on, Diluc. You know you don’t. Why not stick around a little longer?” Kaeya teased. Aether would love for Diluc to stick around so, he stated that he should.
Aether felt a bit guilt though, “if you really don’t want to, you don’t have to though. We’re not trying to force you to or anything.” He assured Diluc. Jean had already left, having business to attend too. Oh how envious diluc is of her. He wishes that he could’ve left too.
Diluc would feel guilty to just leave the traveler like that so, he stayed. Traveler suggested fighting more monsters so, they did. It was for “fun” although it would help with the monster problem in Mondstadt. Diluc personally preferred doing these types of things alone, he thought kaeya seemed like the type to as well. He guessed wrong.
Before he knew it, it’s dark out and he’s in Angel’s share.. serving drinks. There was the usual customers and the strange one who drank more wine than he’s seen anyone do before. He always wondered what was up with him, very strange bard indeed.
There was Kaeya and Rosaria too. He always wondered if those two had something going on. Working at Angel’s share was nice on nights when it was less busy. Tonight was Friday.. meaning there’s lot of people there. Diluc was not a fan of it but, wanted to give Charles a break. He’s a great guy and deserves it.
He watched as everyone spoke to each other and enjoyed their time. He misses back when his father was alive. It’s weird to think about in this moment yet, seems fitting. They were here on his 18th birthday after all… before it all went downhill from there. He can still remember that day like it was yesterday. It all happened so fast.. he decided to look at all the wine options there is in Angels share. He never had much interest in wine but, why not?
“I didn’t think you were the type to drink.” Rosaria commented as the bar tender scanned the drinks. Diluc immediately looked over at her.
“I’m not. I was just curious on what all of you drink. I never paid much attention to that before.” He assured her, putting the clean glass away with the rest. He didn’t want to have another talk on how he has no interest in drinking.
Rosaria rolled her eyes, “yeah yeah. You should honestly try it sometimes though.. as well as giving us another bottle of dandelion wine.” She told Diluc.
Diluc has realized her and Kaeya had quite the amount to drink though. He didn’t want them completely wasted now. “I think you’re both good for the night.” He told her.
Kaeya looked offended though, quite offended. “You take away our wine but not the bard who stole one of the wine bottles.” He crossed his arms. Diluc was shocked about this and looked over to see the bard gone. He doesn’t have to worry about anymore wine bottles missing now though.
“Listen. You’ve both had quite enough and I don’t want you guys so drunk to the point you’re stumbling out of here.” Diluc sighed, honestly over it now.
“You didn’t care when I had to stumble back to mondstadt to healed.” Kaeya mumbled.
Diluc just looked over at him, he didn’t have the energy for this today. He was just trying to be a nice guy and keep these guys healthy. He felt his eye twitch, “you guys still aren’t getting anymore wine regardless.”
Kaeya would give up but, he was just in one of those moods today. “What are you gonna do.. kick us out?” And.. they were kicked out. Maybe he shouldn’t had said that.
This honestly left Diluc in a terrible mood. He didn’t need to bring up their fight at all. It made his throat feel tight and as if his chest had something heavy laying on it. The overwhelming feeling that made him feel dizzy and weak. The sudden nausea from what he told him. He was cutting him off from wine tonight for his own good. Why can’t kaeya understand that he genuinely cares about his health?
He ended up heading home early and having someone else run Angel’s share. He honestly needed to let it all sink in. It was four years ago.. it couldn’t had been that bad. The fight wasn’t that bad… right?

Chapter Text
Diluc grunted as he was driven back by the other’s cryo shield. He was shocked to see the vision that was placed on his brothers chest. After all those years, he finally got one. It was shocking.. yet enraging. This liar gets a vision for what. He didn’t do anything to deserve it. He doesn’t deserve anything.
Watching him cry made him so angry, deep inside he felt guilty. He wished things didn’t have to end up this way. He wished kaeya never told him about this. It was supposed to be a good birthday. Everything has gone wrong. Why did everything have to end up this way. He didn’t want to see mondstadt for a long time.
After that day, he handed in his vision and hoped to never return. He will find those who wronged his father and get them back. He doesn’t want to be affiliated with the knights anymore. They were terrible people.. even those who found close to him. He broke things off with Jean, needing time to himself. He couldn’t face her after what he’s done and what has been done..
Back in the present times, Diluc had just headed home from the tavern. He doesn’t understand what’s had him so.. moody lately. It is getting around that time of year though. Close to his birthday or what he likes to call his fathers death date. His life all fell apart when he became an adult. He missed being so young. Although he’s not incredibly old or anything and measly in his early 20s. He does miss when he was young and foolish… he may just be acting incredibly edgy right now though. He tends to do that when he gets lost in thought!
Even with all of his brooding.. he still felt he needed to protect the city of Mondstadt tonight. It feels like it’s apart of his schedule at this point.
..Kaeya was absolutely pissed off about being kicked out of the tavern. All he and his friend wanted was another drink. That honestly wasn’t too much to ask for at all. Rosaria had already left to do her own thing and kaeya finds himself in the Cat’s tail. Watching the young girl serve drinks with a pouted face. He finds it quite hilarious.
What he finds funnier is her rivalry with diluc. The girl is not even 13 and is mad at some man who happens to own the tavern a bit further away. He can recognize some of his drinking buddies but, believes it is about time to lay off the drinks.
He got up and paid what he owes then decided to walk around and contemplate his life. He walked past the gates of the city and looked at the beautiful night sky. He should honestly be paying attention to his surroundings knowing there’s been a monster problem recent.. yet he can honestly care less. That was until he felt a shot of cold fly past him and heard laughing. He pulled out his sword and turned around to see an abyss mage.
Cryo against cryo was honestly such a pain in the ass. He would have to make this work though. He began to fight back with needing to defend himself. His head spun a bit as he realized he did drink too much. He should’ve listened to diluc.. and speak of the devil. Here he was coming right now. His claymore engulfed in flames as he swung at the abyss mage.
Kaeya was not shocked to see Diluc with his usual batman act he puts on. He’s genuinely curious on why he does it. It probably has something to do with the knights and he realized how much he wouldn’t want to hear about it.
“Well if it isn’t diluc.” Kaeya remarked, putting a hand on his waist.
Diluc continued to fight until the abyss mage was.. dead. “Oh hush. I cant let anyone know it’s really me.” He spat.
“You are one of the only people around who has vibrant red hair and dresses in all black.” Kaeya told him, sighing into his hand.
“So? The people around here around the brightest.” Diluc shrugged as he adjusted his gloves.
He had a fairly good point which left kaeya silent. “Well.. thanks for helping me.”
Diluc was silent now too. “Mhm.” He went on his way yet again to do his nightly patrolling. Kaeya followed Diluc anyway which led to diluc stopping right where he was standing.
“Is there something you would like?” He asked, looking over at the other male.
“Just curious on where your going.. is something wrong with that?” Kaeya teased which resulted in an eye roll from diluc.
“How about i bring you back home. You’re far from sober and seem to just be wondering around.” Diluc told him and did end up bringing him home. Once he saw kaeya go inside he decided it was time for him to head him. It was so weird.. they haven’t casually talked to each other like that in a while. He shook his head and decided not to think into it. It was getting late and about time for him to head home as well.
The next morning he woke up in a slightly better mood. He didn’t feel as on edge as he did yesterday. He was in the mood for breakfast this morning too. He ate his pancakes that moco made for him and headed out to find the traveler waiting at his door steps.
“Oh! Hello.. is there something you need?” Diluc asked, rubbing the back of his neck. He was hoping he didn’t have to help with anymore commissions. He wasn’t in the mood for that.
He found himself fighting monsters with Aether anyway. He did enjoy hanging around the smaller male though. His presence was enjoyable and he was a really nice guy. After that he headed to town to see what was up and buy some mushroom skewers for the traveler.
That’s when he saw Kaeya and Jean walking with each other. He wasn’t jealous at all no. He was just curious, they always seemed so happy together. They used to be a trio. The three of them pulling pranks and training together. Where did all the time go-
“Oh hey diluc! What are you buying?” Jean asked, trying to peek at what he’s buying.
Diluc shocked by this interaction, couldn’t help but hide it. “I uh.. the traveler. He and Paimon seemed hungry so I offered to buy them some skewers. Sticky honey roast would be no good for the exploring those two like to do.” He nodded then began to go on his way.
“You’re just gonna leave like that?” Jean asked, Talking to him was so difficult although.. he was never into having small talks anyway. “I heard there was an abyss mage near the town last night.”
This is what caught diluc’s attention. He knew Kaeya had to tell her. This made him a little annoyed and hope he didn’t expose his identity. His red hair couldn’t had been that obvious now. He can’t make it go away now.
“Where did you hear this? It was kaeya wasn’t it.” He stated.
Kaeya looked away as if he did not do such thing. Jean found this a bit funny. “Well, of course he did. That could’ve been a serious threat to the citizens.” She put a hand on her hip.
She had a really good point. “Yeah. Yeah true. Well, what happened?” Diluc wanted to play dumb as if he didn’t know or anything.
“You saved Kaeya from the cryo abyss mage then brought him home. It was really nice of you to do.” She told him.
“I can’t just let him die??? That would be terrible and as you said it could’ve been a threat to the town. I don’t like the idea of that..” Diluc felt this conversation was pointless and found himself inching away from the two.
“Leaving already, Diluc?” Kaeya asked as Diluc was backing away. Diluc nodded at him.
“Obviously… well.. uh.. bye.” Diluc left in a hurry. He felt so jealous watching his ex girlfriend and brother be so close too each other. It made him want to rip his hair out. He didn’t even realize that he was clenching the food. He desperately tried to fix it before making his way to traveler and his floating companion.

There will be juicy stuff upcoming.. :’(
Chapter Text
Diluc managed to fix the food with ease which was good. He shouldn’t let his emotions get a hold of him but, this really did piss him off. It’s his fault for leaving mondstadt behind those years ago but, he’s back now. He may sound selfish but, he doesn’t like their friendship. He missed when it was all 3 of them in a friendship. He hates how he ruined his own life.
He walked up to traveler and Paimon with the food. “This is what you wanted, correct?”
Paimon’s eyes nearly lit up. “Yes yes!” She squealed. “Paimon appreciates it!”
“Yeah. Thank you, master diluc.” Traveler told him, taking the food from Paimon which led to a “hey!” from her.
Diluc adored hanging around the two. It was a nice change of things and kept him away from his dark and depressing thoughts. He already got his mind off of earlier interaction with kaeya and Jean. This will keep him alright for the time being.
Traveler ended up dragging him to a domain and together they fought off some monsters for some talent books. Reading the books were honestly annoying but, the traveler always seemed so excited to get them. Nearly reading them immediately. It was almost scary if he was being honest.
“Do you need me for anything else today?” Diluc asked, looking down at the smaller male reading the book.
Traveler looked up with a smirk, “how about a game of chess?” He asked.
“Aether will totally win this time! He’s been reading up on it.” Paimon giggled. She couldn’t wait to see who would win this time. She has faith in the traveler for sure.
Diluc wasn’t too sure about that but, he would love to see how the the traveler has improved his skills. “Sure. I would love to have a game of chess with you.” He told Aether.
The game was long like most games but, traveler came rather close to winning. This left Diluc impressed. “You did a great job.” He told the other, smiling softly.
This made Aether feel better about his loss. Paimon looked so pissed off. She kicked her feet out of anger.
“How did you win again?!” She whined.
Diluc laughed softly, “I just have more experience. The traveler did come close though.” He assured Paimon.
Paimon pouted and nodded at the red haired male.
Soon, the traveler left and it seemed to be getting late anyway.
Today was his day to run the tavern. He preferred less busy days and hope things would be in his favor about this. He can’t stand being around so many people. It’s been like this since he was a kid.
He put his ponytail high up and headed off to the tavern. The usual people were there including Kaeya, Venti and Rosaria. Venti was the most annoying person he’s met in his life. This may be an over exaggeration however, it was somewhat true.
The bard knew how to get under his skin too. When ignored he would start singing or something.
He still found himself giving him drinks everyday though. Just like right now. He owes so much money to the tavern it’s crazy. He doesn’t know what stops him from cutting him off.
“Oh diluc~ Another glass please!” Venti called which made diluc want to just pull those stupid braids. He turned around and began to fill the glass with wine. How did his life come to this?
“Do you favor the bard more than me, master diluc?” Kaeya asked, “My glass is empty too you know.”
Diluc sighed, “don’t you have work tomorrow morning.. you don’t need that much alcohol in your system.” He told the blue haired male. “You can die from too much wine.”
Venti looked almost offended, “so you don’t care if I die?” He told the other, dramatically.
Kaeya gasped, “wow… Master diluc, how can you be so cruel.. It’s okay, Venti. Some people are just terrible huh.” He looked over at his smaller friend.
Rosaria was getting quite the entertainment out of this until she decided it was time to go. She slid a bag of mora to diluc. “Well, I’ll see you guys tomorrow. It’s getting late anyway.” She left like that.
Her two idiot friends waved at her then continued the act.
Diluc couldn’t believe that she was leaving him with them. He felt like some type of personal babysitter. Babysitting two drunks.. this was just fantastic.
“Alright, Alright. Enough. You can drink far more wine than kaeya. That’s why I don’t have as much worry for you as I used to.” Diluc told venti. Venti understood that. The statement wasn’t exactly a lie.
Kaeya sighed, “you don’t need to be so worried for me. It’s not like I am a child.” He assured the older red head.
“I understand you’re not a child but, you are a drunk.” He scoffed.
“Ouch. Really had to call me out like that.. hm?” Kaeya pouted, “may as well give me another glass for that comment.”
Diluc groaned and grabbed a glass from the shelf. He began to pour it into Kaeya’s cup. His head hurt a little but he ignored it.
As the night went on, his eye sight blurred. Last thing he remembers is pouring a drink then boom. Everything went black.

OoOoOo.. what happens next!
Chapter Text
Diluc awoke to being shook awake. His vision felt blurry and he can’t even remember what caused him to faint. He ate today and had enough water intake. He didn’t overheat or anything because he didn’t feel hot. He didn’t have a fever either. He felt so confused.
He needed a good moment to focus on who was shaking him awake. To his shock it was Kaeya. Before he could even process anything a glass of water was thrown on his face.
“I.. There was no need to put water on my face.” Diluc said, now annoyed. He looked to see who did it and it was Charles. He wasn’t as mad about it now.
Kaeya rolled his eye, “well, you happened to randomly faint. We had to see if we could wake you up before bringing you to the cathedral. It seems either way we should though.”
Diluc hated being healed, it made him feel weak. He shook his head at Kaeya. “I will be fine on my own. There is no need for that.”
Charles did not seem to like this. “If you’re really fine, try to stand up on you own.. master diluc.” He crossed his arms.
Diluc honestly saw this as a challenge and forced himself up. His legs felt so weak. When has it been this hard to stand? He didn’t understand at all which started to make him feel anxious.
Only after a few moments of standing up, his body gave up and he nearly fell to the ground. Fortunately, he caught himself. This was great.
“To the cathedral it is.” Kaeya sneered, helping diluc to his feet. Diluc wanted to argue but couldn’t.
Charles was going to take over his shift which was really reassuring.
He was now stuck with Kaeya on his way to the cathedral. He didn’t want his younger brother to drag him to the cathedral.
“You know you don’t have to do this.” Diluc looked at the stairs.
Kaeya sighed, “You’ve always been so stubborn. Who else would do it Hm? The bard is too drunk and Charles needs to run the tavern.” Which was a great point. Diluc wasn’t wrong in this situation though because he still didn’t have to do it.
“Fine.” He would just have to suck this up and go along with it.
Once they got to the cathedral it seemed Barbara was still there. It was pretty late at night though. He couldn’t blame her for wanting to help people though. He cares a lot for the people of mondstadt as well.
She ran over to the two, “oh my! What happened? Did Master Diluc get hurt?” she asked. Her face showing concern.
“Mm.. more like fainted. Just needs a check for a concussion and he can’t stand on his own.” Kaeya told Barbara.
Barbara understood and nodded at the older male. Diluc was sat down and Barbara checked his eyes with a book in hand.
She asked if he ate today or drank any water. All those kinds of questions first which made sense.
“Master Diluc, do you drink?” She asked, looking through the pages.
Diluc seemed confused. “Of course not. I have been working all day and I’m not a fan of alcohol.”
Barbara nodded then gasped softly. “Do you do drugs?” She asked.
Kaeya had to hold back a laugh. These questions were a bit crazy but reasonable. He didn’t think Diluc was the type to do drugs though.
“No. Why?” Diluc asked.
“It seems to be a symptom of some kind of a drug overdosage. Your eyes seem to tell me that too.” Barbara told him, her eyes full of worry. She doubt that master diluc would so, how would he get a hold onto something like that.
Kaeya was wondering the exact same thing. He felt a little suspicious of this and wanted to go investigate. “Well, I’ll leave you two be.” He turned around.
“No. Someone will need to bring Master Diluc home if he can barely walk.” Barbara was annoyed with the captain. She couldn’t believe he would do that.
Kaeya sighed and nodded. “Yes ma’am.” He stood there waiting for it to be over.
She asked diluc multiple questions and he answered them all honestly. She soon decided to drop it and have Kaeya bring him home.
On the way to the winery, Kaeya was very lost in thought while diluc was just lost overall. His head was pounded and his vision was blurring again. He doesn’t understand what he’s done today to do these things to him.
He did help Aether fight off treasure hoarders but there’s no way they would do something that bad to him.. right? He didn’t know. This is why even going a little bit into liyue is a bad idea. He loves the traveler don’t get him wrong but this is not fair.
He coughed into his fist, getting kaeya’s attention onto him. This was not dilucs intention but look at where they are now. “When you get home, it would probably be best to drink some water.” Kaeya told the red haired male.
Diluc knew that. He wasn’t dumb or anything. He just nodded and continued walking with him. Kaeya helping hold him up. Once he made it to the winery he felt relief.
“Do you need help inside?” Kaeya asked. Diluc wanted to say no but, his legs still felt so weak. He nodded at him and got helped inside.
The whole room felt like it was spinning. Maybe he really was drugged. His question is how. He knows the traveler would never. His head hurt too much to be thinking right now.
He got over the overdosage overnight but as the week went on.. this began to happen to more people. That’s when the knights were on it and so was diluc.
He would do the business on this at night though. When all the nights were asleep. All but his dearest brother Kaeya.
They ended up running into each other. Diluc with his dark knight thing going on. Kaeya still finds it funny to this day.
“Hello, Diluc. What brings you out so late?” Kaeya asked, placing his hand onto his hip.
“I could ask you the same thing, Sir Kaeya.” Diluc rolled his eyes, looking away from the other.
“I asked first.” Kaeya replied.
Good point. “I’m just out here making sure there are no monsters around since you knights seem to never do much right.” Diluc remarked.
Kaeya was not shocked by what he said, he always has something to say about the knights. He crossed his arms.. he couldn’t care less. “Alright.”
“You didn’t answer my question.” Diluc wanted to know what Kaeya was doing since he wanted to know what he was so badly.
“Just out for a stroll on a nice night. Problem with that?” Kaeya asked.
Diluc knew that wasn’t the reason. “Okay. I’ll be off now.” He could care less what Kaeya was doing at this point. He was pretty suspicious though.
The two parted ways to bump into each other again. Fighting off fatui. Diluc swung his flaming claymore at the fatui. Fighting with ease.
He knew this wouldn’t be a problem at all. That was until he nearly got crushed by an electro hammer. Maybe he was a little bit wrong. Kaeya came in and used his cryo on the hammer user.
Diluc wanted to make a remark but, was too focused on trying not to die. The two fought together well. That was until it started to rain.
This was an advantage for Kaeya though! And one for the electro hammer user. Diluc’s pyro was as good as nothing in the rain.
Diluc just had his claymore now and would have to make due. The two were still doing well until they both got hit with the electro hammer.
Getting back up and finishing off the fatui.
“Not bad, Kaeya.” Diluc teased.
Kaeya scoffed, “cryo is far more affective in the rain unlike pyro. This fight would’ve been much better with a geo user.”
Diluc didn’t even see the reason to bring up geo holders. “Okay. We still did it though.” He shrugged.
“Diluc, if I may ask. How did you happen to run into the fatui as well. This is an area they are to be expected.”
Diluc had to make up an excuse fast. He didn’t really have one though.
“Are you looking into the poison as well?” Kaeya asked. It was obvious diluc would know because he’s all up in the knights business.
Diluc couldn’t believe he was so easy to read. “Knights are very inefficient. It would be better for me to look into it as I’ve been a victim to this poison.” He looked over at the knocked out fatui.
Kaeya was so sick of his knight crap talking but, it was somewhat true. Many of the knights were rather lazy. “Okay. Do whatever you please.” He didn’t know what else to talk.
Diluc was surprised he was going to leave him alone with this. “That’s it? Hm. Surprising.”
“Well.. it’s not like i won’t be along with you when you are out investigating this.” Kaeya smirked.
Diluc felt his heart drop. He couldn’t tell if this was a joke or not. “Come on, Kaeya. That’s not funny.” He crossed his arms.
“Obviously not directly with you but, I have every right to look into it on my own time as well.”
Diluc hated how many good points Kaeya was making. “Alright. If you need help fighting anyone off though, I’ll be around.”
The two departed with mixed feelings on this.

Chapter Text
Diluc instantly regrets knowing kaeya would be around during his investigation time. After getting a good nights sleep, he realized how dumb the idea was. He felt pretty stressed out about his. Already having a headache this morning.
He took his usual morning bath then got dressed ready to go out the house. He completely forgot about having breakfast because he felt there was more important business to attend to today. That’s figuring out what the fatui was up to.
The traveler was busy in liyue dealing with its usual drama. He can’t believe he thought mondstadt was getting bad at one point. Liyue seems to be far worse off which is a little concerning.
He did worry a little for the traveler and his floating companion but, that’s the least of his concerns. Now mondstadt was in some type of danger and diluc had to get to the bottom of it.
He had a feeling that Jean may know something on it so he went straight to her. He made sure to mentally prepare himself before heading to see the acting grandmaster, of course.
She was sitting down and doing paper work per usual. She looked more stressed out than usual too. The amount of poisoning going on lately is very concerning. Especially considering it infected the whole town of Springvale. He felt pretty bad for how much she had to deal with.
Jean looked up at the red haired male and sighed. “You’re curious about what’s been going on, right?” She asked.
Diluc nodded, “Yes. I was wondering if you had any information on it at all.” He responded. He adjusted his gloves so they would feel a little bit more comfortable on his hands.
Jean shook her head no. “We haven’t even managed to find the poison yet. We have no clue what the source could be. There was a few knights sent to springvale to investigate but that’s it. Since you were poisoned at one point.. do you have any ideas?” She asked.
Diluc had to think for a good moment. “Probably something that you have to be exposed to through it getting near your skin and somehow getting into your airway..” he thought more into this. He didn’t like “working” with the knights but, this is simply telling Jean some information.
This is a serious problem for sure and there’s not much need to hide anything. Well except for the fact he suspects the fatui. He knows kaeya won’t say a word which is perfect. This was one weight off of Diluc’s shoulders.
Diluc decided to check out springvale.. a bit later on. He didn’t want it to be too bright out when he came around so he checked in during 3pm.
Sister Barbara was there and taking care of the sick. He was worried she would get infected too. He wouldn’t state an opinion on that though. It’s not his business how things are handled and she is a rather skilled healer. He began to investigate around, making sure not to be seen. He had a black hood over his head and stayed hidden.
He ran his fingers along things in hopes to find the some traces of poison. He didn’t really care about getting overdosed again if that meant the safety of those in mondstadt. Unfortunately, he found nothing but dirt.
He kicked the dirt then began to check other places. Wolvendom wasn’t too far so, he began to head there. There wasn’t much going on in there either which had him disappointed. He had to fight off those weird little wolf things though. He wondered what even lead them here. He really hated them too.
That’s when he had a realization. He would go to dragonspine to see what’s going on in there. Dragonspine was much like snezhnaya so, why wouldn’t the fatui be camping out there. It’s a “nice” cold climate and barely anyone goes there.
He honestly felt like a genius right now and began to head there. He wished he had to the ability to use those teleport things because this could’ve gone way faster. By the time he got there, the sun was nearly all the way set.
His pyro vision glowed as he went into the colder climate. He had to constantly go near fires to stay warm. No wonder people hated going here. He hated it too. Even with a pyro vision, he was cold.
Not as cold as the average person would be though. His cheeks were a little flushed from being so cold and that’s okay. He rubbed his hands together and sighed softly.
After a few minutes near the fire, he could hear talking. He grabbed his claymore to be safe and slowly crept towards it..

Diluc was about to attack then saw it was Kaeya. He had no clue what Kaeya would do in dragonspine so late and wondered if he had the same suspicions as him. He put his claymore away and walked towards him.
“What are you doing in dragonspine?” Diluc asked.
Kaeya nearly felt his soul leave his body. He looked over at Diluc quickly. “No need to scare me like that.” He told him.
Diluc rolled his eyes. “What are you doing in dragonspine?”
Kaeya didn’t want to tell him all about his business now. “I could ask you the same.”
“You’re avoiding the question, Kaeya.” Diluc was getting pretty annoyed. He’s not the type to fall for Kaeya’s tricks. He wanted answers already.
Kaeya looked over at some pile of snow on the ground then back at Diluc. “Just enjoying the cold weather. It’s nice here.”
“It’s below zero here and absolutely freezing even for me.” Diluc responded, not believing him at all.
Kaeya was honestly with his boyfriend albedo but, wasn’t telling Diluc that. It’s none of his business and kaeya has every right to keep his business to himself.
“Why are you so persistent? Why do you need to know?” Now, Kaeya was the one getting annoyed.
“Because I am.” The red head kicked some snow softly, looking down at the foot prints he left.
“Mm.. welll.. I don’t want to tell you.”
“Why not?”
“It’s none of your business?”
“Well, I asked.”
“What’s that gotta do with anything?”
This went on for a while until Kaeya came clean. Diluc looked a bit surprised by this as he didn’t expect the chief alchemist to have any interest in his brother. He felt very embarrassed for nearly nagging him to death for an answer.
“Happy now, master Diluc?” Kaeya scoffed, continuing to walk down the mountain. He stopped realizing, Diluc was in dragonspine too.
“What are you even doing here so late?” Kaeya asked, he couldn’t believe Diluc was just in dragonspine. He would understand if the traveler was around but, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
“Just doing things and stuff..” he told him, not wanting to give away his idea then. He likes to keep these things more to himself unless it’s information everyone needs to know.
“Yeah.. okay sur-“ Kaeya was cut off by Diluc yanking him back. An electro hammered fatui nearly smacking him with the hammer.
Kaeya again felt his soul nearly leave his body. He doesn’t understand what the hell just happened.
Diluc was honestly sick of being stuck fighting these guys. He swung his claymore and went at him. He knew his assumption was right. He’s not so proud that it was though.
The two were rather good at fighting together. It was like they had a pattern going on when they did fight and somehow knew each other’s every step.
They could’ve avoided this fight if they stayed hidden and spoke. Diluc felt like an idiot.
The whole idea of going to dragonspine at night was a bad one but, it would be better not to be seen. Although barely anyone comes here anyway.
The two were fighting well until Diluc felt something thrown at them. It didn’t feel big but..
That’s when it hit him. Last time he was fighting with traveler something was thrown at him and he didn’t feel too good. As crazy as this sounded, whatever was thrown at them. He hopes it stays on so they can make it to albedo. Albedo will know what to do about this.
“Kaeya, we have to get out of here and head to albedo now.” Diluc whispered.
Kaeya looked rather confused. He didn’t understand why the needed albedo or needed to run away.
“Just trust me, okay?” Diluc had an idea. He swung at the fatui pyro gun person then began to run. He wasn’t the fastest runner but, fast enough.
Kaeya was still pretty confused and wished Diluc was better at elaborating instead of impulsively doing things. Yet Kaeya found himself following him.
Once they made it to Albedo’s “lab” safely, Diluc made sure there was still some on his clothing.
Kaeya looked at him like he was crazy. Albedo did the same.
“Oh. What brings you two here?” Albedo asked, making sure his lab is still a mess per usual. The messy environment helps keep his mind stimulated.
Kaeya was going to say he has no clue but was cut off by diluc. “We’re poisoned and need your to take an example of it off of us.” Diluc quickly said.
Albedo took a moment to process, his eyes widened when he did. He grabbed a test tube and scooped some up off of Kaeya’s shoulder into a test tube. He closed it quickly.
Kaeya looked in shock. He couldn’t believe he’s been exposed to the poison this whole time. He felt immediate anxiety hit him.
“We’re going to be fine, Kaeya.” Diluc reassured him, knowing that he was kind of lying.
“You fainted after a few hours of exposure.” Kaeya told him.
Kaeya had a great point. They should honestly get some help but, the city was so far. Diluc hated the idea of freezing but, he took off his coat.
“To be safe.. We should take off our top layers. I could manage without my jacket.” Diluc told him, he didn’t want them breathing in anymore than they were already.
“Yes, that’s an excellent idea. We don’t know much about the substance other then it being air borne. So please remove the clothing that’s been exposed so, I myself won’t be harmed.” Albedo told the two from his lab.
Diluc fully understood which is why he already took of his jacket. Kaeya took off his top layer, keeping it away from the lab as diluc did.
Albedo was at work rather quickly for it being so late at night. The two taller men kept distance away from Albedo as he worked, not wanting to share their poison.
After a good 45 minutes, Albedo finally said something. “This is going to be an overnight process at this point. I would tell you two to leave my lab but, It’s freezing and dark out. Do you have faith in yourselves to make it back safely?” He asked.
Diluc always had faith in himself so he was going to say yes but kaeya cut him off with a no which led to diluc crossing his arms in frustration.
“Hmph. Whatever you say, Kaeya.” He looked over at the flurry going on out the lab. He felt the blue haired male was being rather dramatic yet he’s not one to talk.
Albedo didn’t think they would be too annoying assuming they needed sleep. All he needs is something like coffee and he’s good to go.
“Well, you two can stay. It is a very far walk and you don’t have abilities like the traveler does.” He told the two, putting something into a Petri dish.
Kaeya seemed to admire almost everything he did which absolutely repulsed diluc. He didn’t say anything about it though. He just realized how cold it’s been getting and shook his jacket outside of the lab.
Once he felt all the poison was off he went and put the jacket back on.
He was pretty sure he can sleep even tho he’s all drugged up so, he sat down and drifted off…

Chapter Text
Diluc honestly doesn’t know where he woke up but, it felt so warm. He loved the warmth. He opened his eyes to see a cover on him and his head rested on a pillow. His bright red hair was down which he was a bit confused by. He shrugged it off and got him.
He went to get dressed yet didn’t have his usual clothing there. He was confused and put on the other things instead as he put his hair up in a ponytail. He made his way downstairs, yawning softly.
“You nearly never wear your hair in a ponytail. Are you trying to copy, master crepus?” Kaeya asked from the kitchen.
“Why would you even say that?! I wear my hair in a ponytail nearly all the time, Sir Kaeya.” Diluc spat.
Kaeya frowned at this, “geez, sorry. And why sir kaeya? If anything sir is a thing for you, not me. You are the Calvary captain after all.” He crossed his arms. “Anyway, happy birthday!”
Diluc realized multiple things at once. This was not the winery, Kaeya is never around in his home anyway and his birthday is around 5 months from now. This is not normal and he must’ve been thrown back in the past.
Crepus walked into the house with a few things in his arms. “Ah! You’re finally up, Diluc. You woke up a little later than usual it seems and why are you wearing your hair up?” He asked.
“He claims he wears one all the time, Master Crepus.” Kaeya told him, getting up from his seat.
“Hm. Well, if that’s what Diluc wants to do.” Crepus mumbled to himself then looked at the smaller red head. “New hairstyle for official being an adult?” He asked, smiling softly.
Diluc’s heart dropped. It’s his 18th birthday? This was the worst birthday he’s had in his entire life. He can’t tell them that of course. “I was just curious on what I would look like with my hair so high up. My apologies, father.” He took down his hair.
“Oh no. I wasn’t mad about the new style. Just curious as you were.” Crepus told him, heading upstairs. “Well, I’ll be doing some paper work as sorts. Happy Birthday, Diluc. I have plans later to celebrate it at the tavern. Don’t forget to come.” He left.
Diluc nodded at him then looked over at Kaeya. He seemed to be wearing knight clothing. How could diluc forget he was a knight at this age.
“You ready to go out and patrol?” Kaeya asked, “Although you may wanna change into your knight’s uniform.”
Diluc nodded at him, he headed upstairs and changed quickly. He came back down and ready to do patrol. He absolutely despised this now but, when he was younger it was his favorite thing to do especially with Kaeya.
“Alright, let’s head out then.” Diluc opened the door and Kaeya followed. As they patrolled mondstadt, Kaeya decided to ask something.
“How did you sleep last night? You seem in a rather bad mood.” Kaeya told him.
“I’m fine.” Diluc responded quickly which only made Kaeya more worried. Kaeya looked at him more closely.
“You don’t seem to fine to me. You know you can tell me anything, Luc.” Kaeya assured him, wanting him to open up about whatever has been bothering him.
Diluc found that somewhat funny as Kaeya never fully opened up until a few hours later after.. father died. “Mm. It truly is nothing. I must’ve slept on the wrong side of the bed.” Diluc gave him a soft smile.
Kaeya decided not to bug him on this anymore. They soon ran into Jean. Diluc almost forgot that Jean was his girlfriend at the time too.
Jean walked over to Diluc, she had a few lamp grass in her hands. “Happy Birthday, Sir Diluc!” She kissed his cheek.
“T-Thank you, Jean. These flowers are much appreciated.” He told her, blushing softly.
Kaeya laughed softly, watching the two interact. They were a rather cute couple but, didn’t really announce their relationship much. They didn’t want to have too many people know especially crazy Donna.
“Well, I have to continue my patrolling too! See you later, Kaeya and Diluc.” She waved to them as she ran off.
After a few moments of silence, “Must be nice having such a pretty girlfriend.” Kaeya told him.
“Do you want a girlfriend too?” Diluc asked.
“Mm.. I don’t know. Just anyone works honestly.”
“What do you mean? Girls and boys work? Or any girl works??”
“I’m not telling~”
“Alright, Kaeya. Keep your secrets.” Diluc’s voice soon turned cold.
Kaeya was confused on why he was acting like that but, went on with the patrol anyway. Soon it was the afternoon.
Diluc remembered he had to head to the tavern, as he walked there all of a sudden he was looking down at his father’s dead body yet again.
Diluc shaking as he held back a sob. Tears just rolled down his cheek. Kaeya and a few knights had rushed there as soon a they could.
Kaeya was shocked at first. That’s when intrusive thoughts flooded his brain. “This world is truly fascinating..” he mumbled to himself.
This is probably the worst dream Diluc has ever had in his life. But, the truth is it wasn’t really a dream. Maybe he was happier that day at first but, it’s just some warped reality of his past. He hated it. He hates this. He doesn’t remember what he’s even doing in the present.
He managed to finally wake himself up though. He found himself near Kaeya. He must’ve moved in his sleep or something because that wasn’t the plan.
He felt incredibly dizzy and nauseous though. This had to be way more poison than he was exposed to last time.
He looked over at the blue haired male, curled up in his spot. He could hear albedo’s lab equipment and him up at work. He really did love science huh.. he felt dizzy yet again and everything went black.
When he woke up again, he found himself hugging Kaeya. He wondered if this was another one of those weird dreams so he pinched himself. With the ability to feel things, he realized he was actually awake now.
He quickly moved away from Kaeya which led to a soft laugh from Albedo.
“Now you’re finally awake. You’ve been so in and out of it.” Albedo told Diluc, looking down at his lab table then back at Diluc. “You move a lot in your sleep which I did not expect. It may be that you are rather drugged up or you’re just a touchy person. I took notes on this, of course.”
“Why?” Diluc asked, standing up. He felt a wave of dizziness which went away pretty quickly.
“It’s valuable information, is it not? Seeing how someone’s sleep is effected by something so unknown.” Albedo told him, his eyes nearly lit up when something in one of the tubes changed color.
“Alright. I will trust your judgment, Albedo.” Diluc responded as he watched albedo begin to write things down.
“It is a little funny as well though. I won’t lie about that.” Albedo continued to do some work.
Diluc would manage to get his hands on those notes even if it meant the death of him. Soon, Kaeya got up as well. He looked tired still.
“Ah, it’s morning. Great. Anything you figure out, Albedo?” Kaeya asked, going closer to the blonde haired male.
“Based on observations over night and some testing, this is a plant from another nation. Very similar to violetgrass in liyue and a few plants in Sumeru. I just need a book on Sumeru plants and may be able to figure this out.” Albedo told the taller male, his eyes filled with hope.
“We should head to the library where Lisa is at then. She knows every book in there.” Kaeya told him.
Diluc watched as the two interacted and sighed softly. He did not have much interest in going to the librarian. She was rather intimidating yet he did want to know what this drugs origin may be and he wants to know what notes were taken.
“Albedo, may we see the notes you took of us when we were sleeping?” Diluc asked.
Kaeya looked like this struck his interest. “Oh? You took notes, hm?” He asked, looking down at Albedo.
“Yes, it’s valuable information and may help with knowing the sleeping patterns in those who are drugged.” Albedo seemed to be blushing softly. “You may see them if you like though.” He gave it to Kaeya first though.
Kaeya decided to read it out loud. “Kaeya.. talks some in his sleep, mostly silent and hardly moves.” It seems he only had some difference as he usually doesn’t talk in his sleep. “Diluc, constantly hugging. Hm. So it seems that’s never changed.”
Diluc cut him off, “alright alright enough. It seems about time to go to the library and get those books on flowers, correct?”
The two others agreed and they all went on their way. Albedo hiding his important test tube.

Chapter Text
The two brothers had headed there way off dragonspine with the chief alchemist. They both were still a little drugged up but, they could function just fine.
Diluc couldn’t stop thinking about his dream last night. It was so.. disturbing. It was such a warped version of the past that it bothers him. He shivered as he kept walking with the two boyfriends.
“Cant handle the cold, Diluc?” Kaeya teased. “I thought that being a pyro vision holder would keep you warm.”
“It’s not the cold that bothers me, Kaeya.” Diluc sighed and rolled his eyes. He didn’t have time to be teased yet he did as he was stuck with Kaeya the whole way.
They soon got off of that freezing mountain hell and were heading to the city of mondstadt. It was a pretty nice day which would uplift most people’s spirits. There wasn’t a single cloud to be seen in the sky which means the walk is going to be just fine.
Albedo had seem pretty distracted by nearly everything which is shocking that he’s not the one who’s on some weird fatui drugs. He stopped in the middle of walking and pulled out his drawing pad.
“Albedo, what are you doing? Did you forget we need to head to the city?” Kaeya asked, looking down at the shorter blonde male.
Albedo looked up at him then what he was previously looking at. It seemed the butterfly had left which made him rather disappointed. “I did not forget. There is no harm in making stops yet this matter is important.”
“So.. you forgot that?” Kaeya asked, continuing to walk with the other. Diluc was behind them watching this whole conversation go down. He didn’t feel like talking at all.
Albedo shrugged. “It seems I did.” He continued to walk to the city. His blonde short hair bouncing slightly with every step. He was quite the strange person. There wasn’t the most understanding of Albedo to really anybody. He was very too himself and it seemed all he cared for was science and Klee. Shockingly Kaeya as well which is a different story.
The red haired male sighed, he wanted to lay on the ground and sleep. He was often sleep deprived which is no shocker. Some dreams make sleep feel like you’re awake the whole time. He wasn’t going to dwell on it though. They needed to find out the flowers that were being used for the poison. This is a huge step in helping mondstadt. A lot of people had already fell victim to this and diluc hates the idea of people being hurt by the fatui. It makes him feel disgusted and even more disgusted with himself for not being the best of help.
Before he knew it, they were at the knights of favonius building. He was hoping Albedo would be the one asking Lisa about getting a book for research. Lisa was quite intimidating although she can be very lazy. He knew the type of power she held as well although they had never fought. This is all from what he’s seen and heard. Yet nothing worried him more than that child Klee and her friend Diona. That’s a different story for a different time though.
The three of them entered the building and began to head to the library. Lisa was in there as expected, reading a book about who knows what.
Albedo walked over to her. “I have made a breakthrough in figuring out what this poison may be made of and need a book about flowers as this is something that isn’t from around here.” He told her, having a rather blank expression per usual.
Lisa looked up and put her book onto her desk. “Alright. We have quite a few books on flowers actually..” she was about to go over to one of the sections and saw Diluc and kaeya.
“Goodness. You two look terrible. Did something happen?” She asked, making her way to the nature section.
“We got attacked by the fatui in dragonspine then had a shit ton of that powdery stuff thrown at us. That’s how Albedo got a sample of it.” Kaeya explained which left Lisa surprised.
“Are you two still having symptoms of the powder? How much was it?” Lisa reached up for a book that has information about flowers in all the nations. She handed it to Albedo. “I believe this book is exactly what you’re looking for.”
“Enough for our top layer of clothing to be nearly completely covered in it. My symptoms have gotten better but, I’m not too sure about Diluc.” Kaeya told her, placing a hand on his hip. The two looked over at Diluc to see him messing around with his gloves.
He looked up at them with an annoyed look. “Is something wrong?” He asked, blinking a few times. The dosage was much larger than last time which was really messing with him.
“Nothing, dear. Continue what you’re doing.” Lisa laughed softly, she’s never seen him like that before. It seems everyday you see new sides of people you’ve never seen before. She knew he was rather grumpy get didn’t think he was interested in his gloves.
Kaeya looked away and back over at Lisa. “Do we have anything on what the fatui may be trying to do?” He asked, wanting to at least know their motive.
Lisa frowned softly. “Unfortunately, we have little to nothing. Once albedo finds out what the flower is and what’s in the drug… it may help a lot.” She assured Kaeya.
Albedo had left to go to his lab in the building. He needed full concentration and the conversation going on was just far too much for him. He couldn’t think right with all of them talking.
“Well, I think you two need to go get plenty of rest and try to detox yourselves the best you can. Be more careful next time.” Lisa told the two, nearly rushing them off.
The two had left the building together. It seems they didn’t trust each other to be alone. Although Diluc’s dizzy spell from early had left, he was suddenly feeling nauseous again. He hasn’t ate in nearly over a day so that might be why. He groaned softly, thinking too much into the feeling he had.
“Kaeya… you know I’ll be alright on my own. You should head home and rest. I believe the grandmaster will let you have a rest day.” Diluc told him, feeling rather worried about Kaeya’s well being. It seemed Kaeya found this humorous.
“I could say the same about you, Diluc. You have people who can work at the tavern for you and do all those wine business things. It would probably be good for you to eat something before going to sleep though.” Kaeya told him, beginning to walk off yet staying close enough to keep an eye on Diluc.
Diluc followed rather quickly. “First of all, I do not need rest. You’re the one who needs rest. You should worry about yourself.” He wanted to prove to Kaeya that he could handle this which he could. He didn’t know why Kaeya was suddenly being super caring. These drugs must be really messing with them.
He stormed off ahead of Kaeya. He wasn’t going to let his little brother act like this. Just because he’s an inch or so taller doesn’t mean anything. His legs were starting to feel so weak though yet he had nothing to hold onto to keep his balance.
That’s when he felt his legs give up on him and he looked up to see a familiar face. It was Donna.
“Oh, Diluc. You don’t seem to well. Do you need me to bring you to the cathedral?” Her voice honestly made him want to cut off his ears and never hear again. He didn’t appreciate that she was touching him either. She made him very uncomfortable and has since he was child.
He hated thinking back to the stunts she would pull. He shouldn’t judge someone based on what they did as a child though. It’s pretty funny because she still pulls the same stunts as an adult.
“I am perfectly fine, Donna. Please stop touching me.” Diluc told her, trying to keep a friendly expression. He didn’t want to make her feel bad yet something deep inside of him wanted to totally flip out on her.
She did as he pleased which led to him dropping onto the ground. He realized he should’ve asked for her to help him up first. “Help me up then don’t touch me.” He groaned from the ground.
“Oh! Sorry sorry!” She helped him up and he sighed. Now he has more of a headache than before.
Kaeya had finally caught up with Diluc and tried not to laugh at the sight of this. He covered his mouth and watched the scene. Donna’s happy expression went blank when she saw Kaeya. She rolled her eyes and walked off.
“You and Donna having some romance, hm?” Kaeya teased, wanting a reaction out of Diluc.
“Not now, Kaeya.. you should go home and rest as I’ve mentioned before.” Diluc told him.
Kaeya shrugged, “honestly I was thinking of getting drunk.” He joked.
Diluc felt his heart drop. “Kae.. you can’t do that. That’s as good as suicide.” He didn’t notice he used the nickname he hadn’t dared to say in so long. This caught Kaeya off guard.
“It was a joke.. no need to be so serious. As I’ve mentioned before though, go eat.” Kaeya told him.
“Only if you come with me.” Diluc joked.
The two of them did end up sitting at Good Hunter and eating together. Diluc did not expect his joke to become a reality but, it was nice having someone there with him when he’s eating. This suddenly reminded him of the fact Albedo is trying to figure out what is in the drug’s.. he was also reminded that he truly did need some rest. Sleeping on a cold mountain wasn’t exactly comfortable.
He took a bit of his mashed potatoes, he really has been running off of nearly no energy at all. Now that he’s giving himself some.. he feels exhausted.
“Finally going to admit you need rest instead of acting like a child?” Kaeya asked, watching the red haired male attempt to eat his food. It was very entertaining how such a drug could make Diluc act so different.
“There’s nothing to admit. I don’t need rest. There is still plenty that needs to be done..” Diluc slumped over, falling asleep in his bowl of mashed potatoes…

Chapter Text
Albedo sighed as he rubbed his temple, trying to figure something out. The poison had been such an arrangement of flowers it was confused. He found hints of a flower from Sumeru though. He’s never been so, his knowledge on this was little to nothing. Learning new things was his favorite yet this wasn’t exactly alchemy. He could make it alchemy related if he tried though. It’s such a complex subject that you must know the details of even the littlest thing.
His mind was so focused on the flowers that he nearly had a heart attack when Klee barged in. His look of shock went to annoyance then back to his blank expression. He watched as the small blonde haired girl went to run up to him just for the grandmaster stop her.
He wished that there was someone else to watch Klee than Jean. Possibly Kaeya but, he needed rest. Jean needed rest all the time though and Lisa was pretty busy with Razor today. She gives him reading lessons 3 times a week which is pretty kind of her to do.
His thoughts soon stopped wandering off once the grandmaster said something.
“Dearest Apologies, Albedo. I was wondering where she disappeared too.” Jean told him, looking somewhat nervous.
“It is quite alright, Jean. I understand she must’ve been eager to see me.” Albedo told her, somewhat frustrated with his thought process being interrupted although he can quickly jump back on track. He looked at Klee who was trying to escape Jean’s grasp.
“Mr.albedo!! When are you going to be done? You said we could play hide and seek today!” Klee whined, her big eyes becoming teary.
“And we still have many hours of daylight to do so. I just need to do this in peace so I can help the sick people. Remember what I told you?” He asked.
Klee pouted yet nodded. “Alright.. mr.albedo…” she looked up at Jean then made her way out. Jean apologized one more time then left as well.
Albedo sighed softly finally being able to have some peace and quiet yet again. His brain wondering back to the flowers and what was mixed in there. He needed to learn more about this Sumeru flower yet the books wouldn’t be enough and he’ll have to manage to get some and try making the exact poison. This was going to be the perfect plan.
~~~~~
Klee knew if she couldn’t rely on albedo for hide and seek, she could rely on Kaeya. This was Jean’s worst fear as Lisa told her what happened to Kaeya. She didn’t want Klee bothering him but, it was too late. She began to sprint out of the quarters.
Jean began to go after her. She never realized how fast the small girl was until today. She didn’t need her to go finding his place and bothering him though. She chased Klee all the way to good hunter where she found Kaeya taking Diluc’s head out of the food.
Klee rushed up to Kaeya. “Kaeya!! Let’s play hide and seek!” She absolutely ignored Diluc’s existence because he’s the weird grown up. She doesn’t really bother with him.
Jean looked down at Diluc on the table. Worry and anxiety immediately coursing through her. “What happened?” She looked over at kaeya.
“He barely had any sleep and passed out in his food.” Kaeya told her, placing a hand on his hip.
“You two hang out again?” Jean asked, a bit surprised by this. She was proud nonetheless. She didn’t expect Diluc to be okay with this yet it seemed he was.
“Well.. he didn’t eat anything at all for the past day so he said he wouldn’t eat unless I came along. I don’t think he’s thinking right though.” Kaeya wished them getting along again was the fate he got lucky with yet, truth is truly painful.
Klee watched as the two grown ups talked with each other. It seemed Kaeya was too busy for hide and seek as well. She didn’t understand why everyone was so busy today. She understood there was sick people but, that’s what healers are for. Being a grown up seems tough.
She ran off as the two talked to go fish blasting. She knows Razor is busy today but, there’s always Bennett. He was really fun to play with.
Jean hardly paying attention to Klee didn’t even notice how she ran off. “We should try to wake him up and I can help him get to the winery. You go home and get your rest, that’s an order.” Her tone went from sympathetic to completely serious.
Kaeya understood he had to go rest and accepted this fate. “Alright. Alright.” He used his cryo vision to form some ice then put it on Diluc’s face.
The cold water immediately waking him up. Diluc blinked a few times processing what was going on around him and who was there. He saw Kaeya as well as Jean. He wondered if they were watching him sleep. This made him feel embarrassed although it didn’t last long. His overwhelming dizzy feeling knocked him out again.
That’s when the two became a little worried. Kaeya tried the waking up method again and it was no good. He tried a few more times now worried.
“This is his second time being poisoned right? How high was the dosage.” Jean asked, her heart rate speeding up rather quickly. She didn’t understand why Diluc was going through this and Kaeya wasn’t.
“Yes, it is. I have a question for you now. Has anyone else around here been poisoned twice? The dosage we got was dangerously high but, he got far more than I did.” Kaeya said, crossing his arms. He was getting pretty worried now too. Diluc wasn’t the type to just pass out like that. He knows he hasn’t known him as well in the last four years but this isn’t normal.
“As far as I know.. no.. we should take him to the cathedral now.” Jean told Kaeya, “you need to be checked too although it’s only your first time.”
Kaeya nodded at her and the two of them helped get Diluc up and began to bring him to the cathedral. Sara had honestly watched all this go down and felt herself have a mini heart attack at least 6 times during that conversation. She wondered if she should tell someone what’s going on.
Jean opened up the cathedral door and hoped to see someone in here. That’s when Barbara came running to them. “Oh my goodness! What happened?” She asked, she had noticeable eyebags. It seems she hasn’t been getting must sleep lately with all the healing she’s been doing.
“Is master Diluc poisoned again??” Barbara asked, pointed over at a bench for them to lay him on.
“Yes, Diluc and Kaeya are both poisoned. I need you to check on them both..” Jean realized that she hasn’t had Klee for the past who knows how long. “I have to go! I forgot something!” She left the cathedral in a hurry.
Barbara nodded at her and looked at Kaeya and Diluc. She checked Kaeya’s pulse first, her face going pale as she felt how his heart rate was slow. Next she checked Diluc which led to her gasping.
Barbara took a deep breath and placed a smile on her face. She must always smile to keep everyone in good spirits. “I’m going to get some help from the others.” She ran to get some other healers.
Barbara focused on Kaeya’s check up ad made sure he wouldn’t be next to slip into a coma. She didn’t tell Kaeya that Diluc did though. She had no plans of worrying him and the two weren’t that close from what she’s heard. Diluc was taken away as Barbara was checking Kaeya’s pupils.
“I think a night of good rest will have you in best shape tomorrow!! Don’t overwork yourself, Sir Kaeya.” Barbara told him, helping him up. “I recommend no drinking tonight either or even tomorrow. Try some mint leaf water.”
Kaeya nodded yet wanted to know where Diluc went. “Thank you, Barbara but, what’s wrong with Diluc?” He asked, feeling nervous now.
“Oh! He’s the first person in the town to be poisoned twice within a short time period. What has it been.. two days? He just needs to be monitored. If you want to, check in on him tomorrow morning.” Barbara told the captain, wanting to get him out so she can panic in peace.
Kaeya understood and left. He didn’t want to push the poor girl any further. Once he got home, he took off his eyepatch and placed it next to him. He immediately fell asleep on his couch. He didn’t feel like crawling into bed. It was too far.
Kaeya ended up sleeping away the rest of his day and night. He woke up at dawn, feeling a bit stiff from sleeping on the couch all night long. He found a bag of food left on his table for him. The note said it was from Jean which made him feel pretty glad. He doesn’t know what he’s done to deserve such a good friend.
He got up and looked in the bag to see some chicken skewers which was one of his favorites to have. He nearly forgot about Diluc. His brother should be awake by now and he needed to check on him. He grabbed his eyepatch and threw it on. He cleaned himself up and rushed to the cathedral.
He wishes that Diluc wasn’t so stubborn and wouldn’t go off places trying to be some hero. He sometimes needs to sit things out. It would’ve just been kaeya who got poisoned if Diluc didn’t decided to go to dragonspine that day. For some reason, Kaeya felt consumed with guilt even if it’s not really his fault.
He entered the cathedral hoping to see Diluc fine. He asked one of the nun’s where he was and went to the room he’s staying in. His heart dropped to see Diluc still asleep.
Barbara was sitting next to him, checking his pulse. She sighed in relief to know it had sped up a little more than before. He’s not doing as bad as he was yesterday and that’s all that mattered to her. She looked up to see Kaeya.
“Hello, Sir Kaeya!” Barbara kept her usual smile. “Diluc has not awoken yet unfortunately but, he is doing just fine!”
“Did he wake up at all?” Kaeya placed a hand on his hip as he looked at Diluc. His face clearly showed worry which made Barbara feel bad.
“No.. but… he will soon! I just know it! We’ve all been taking turns keeping an eye on him during the past night!” Barbara assured Kaeya to keep him in good spirits.
“What. Is he in a coma?” Kaeya’s voiced raised as he asked. It wasn’t intentional but, he was getting very worried. He wondered if Diluc would die. They haven’t really been close in so long and now he’s probably going to slip away for good. He hates that.
“No need to get so loud.. sir kaeya. He is in a coma but, he’s going to be fine so there is no need to worry about him.” Barbara tried to assure him but he wasn’t going to hear it.
Kaeya doesn’t know what he would do with Diluc dead. He was gone for four years and came back about 10 months ago. His throat felt as if it was closing and his chest was tight. He didn’t even realize he was shaking. He wanted to force Diluc awake. He wanted to scream at him. There was many things he felt.
“When will he wake up, Barbara.” He asked, his voice shaking. He couldn’t even think of breathing techniques right now. He wanted a technique to wake Diluc up and make sure he’s okay.
His mind felt foggy and this all didn’t feel real. He didn’t want it to be real. He couldn’t go through stress like this…
His mind went back to that day.
Kaeya was shaking as he stood at Jean’s door step. The heavy rain and the newly obtained cryo vision making him cold. He had no tears left to cry at this point so it was more of a whimpering. His hands shook at he looked at the burns he had. It felt so bad, he doesn’t understand why he lived. He didn’t get why he was given a vision. This must be the gods mocking him. This is his punishment for everything.
Jean opened the door, the first thing she noticed was a cryo vision and the next was the tears stains on Kaeya’s face. She didn’t understand what happened or why he was so upset. She knows getting a vision isn’t always the best thing. Sometimes tragedies happen before one gets a vision. She didn’t want to imagine what tragedy this was. She moved out the way, letting her friend in.
“You’re completely shocked. Let’s get you warmed up.. okay?” Jean told him, observing him closely. Her eyes filled with worry and sadness.
She helped him get all cleaned up and healed some of his scars. She didn’t understand why Diluc didn’t help kaeya fight off whatever this thing was. It made her feel very disappointed in her boyfriend. He probably needed some alone time though. She wonders what led kaeya to what it was.
To lighten the mood, “hey. On the bright side.. now you have a vision like me and diluc! What did you fight anyway?” She asked, taking Kaeya’s jacket and putting it on a dirty clothes basket.
Kaeya felt the overwhelming sadness hit him again. Everything that happened tonight.. his brother.. no longer wanting him around. He took a deep breath. “D..Diluc…” he managed to spit out.
Jean couldn’t believe her ears. This has to be some sick joke, right? He would never hurt anyone like this! Especially Kaeya. “Do you want Diluc here?” She asked.
Kaeya’s eye widened when she asked that. “No! I fought.. Diluc..” he mumbled. He could finally feel his tears coming back, the tight pain in his chest. His breathing became worse than before. He was gasping quietly as he tried to stop himself from sobbing.
Jean couldn’t believe this. She didn’t understand why they would even fight. She wanted to ask further yet knew what Kaeya needed right now was a friend. Someone he could actually trust. “Breath, Kaeya. Ready with me.. 1.. 2… 3..”
A loud ringing was in Kaeya’s ear brought him back to the present. The young healer with a fearful expression looking at the captain who was sitting on the floor. He hadn’t even realized that he covered his ears.
“Sir Kaeya.. please.. please stop ignoring me.. you’re starting to worry me.” Barbara told him, her usual smile completely gone.
Kaeya felt as if there was a hole in his heart. He didn’t want to know this reality anymore.
