Amaris stood at the back of the line fiddling nervously with her necklace as she watched her classmates go up against the boggart. She was just hoping that by the time she got to the front they'd run out of time. Of course she could never be so lucky.
She took a deep breath and stepped forward trying not to visibly shake. The boggart seemed to register her presence and after a moment it shifted out of it's form of a vampire in fancy dress from the last student. The classroom went dark despite the sun having been streaming through the windows just moments ago and the full moon could be seen above them. Amaris took in a breath trying to focus on what to do, raising her wand shakily and opening her mouth to cast the spell.
The word died on her lips as she glanced at floor. There lay her family torn apart and covered in blood just as her baby sister had been all those years ago. That's when she noticed the blood on her hands. Her breath caught in her throat. No. No, please no.
She didn't see anything else after that. Didn't feel her breath quickening. Didn't hear the horrified gasps of her classmates. Didn't see Professor Lupin jump in front of her, arms stretched wide protectively. Didn't notice her classmates being ushered out of the room.
"Amaris, can you hear me? Tap my hand if you can hear me" The distant voice of Professor Lupin filtered into her brain. She took a few moments to process what he had said before tapping the hand that hers now seemed to be resting on. "That's it. Just listen my voice. You are at Hogwarts. Your family is perfectly safe and well. It wasn't real. Do you understand?" Another tap. "Good. I want you to follow my breathing. Breathe in." She shakily breathed in. "Well done. Now slowly out." She released the breath. She followed his instructions for a few minutes before she felt more herself again.
Amaris looked up at Professor Lupin.
"You back with me?" he asked gently. She nodded and looked around the room noticing the lack of her classmates "where'd everyone go...?" She asked quietly.
"I sent them to lunch early. Here," he passed her a bar of chocolate and a glass of water. "They'll help you feel better."
She nodded a little and took a small bite of the chocolate finding comfort in the familiar taste. "Thank you..."
"No problem at all. It is my job to make sure you're okay after all." He smiled a little.
"But you didn't have to do all this... Could've just left me to deal with it or just sent me to Madame Pomfrey..." She replied quietly.
He shook his head. "You needed help so I provided it. Plus I think I can understand a little better than Madame Pomfrey."
Amaris frowned a little, confused. "What do you mean?"
"What I mean is that you are a werewolf... Just like me..."
Her eyes widened "you- you're like me?"
He nodded smiling softly. Amaris looked a little closer at his worn face and saw the multitude of scars littering the skin and she found herself smiling despite what had happened. Finally, she had someone else like her.
