It’s Not Really Him

Summary:

They were going to arrest Sidious. They thought they had won. They overlooked one vital thing. They didn’t know they were once again falling for the real Sith’s lies. They bought the lie easily. They’d already suspected the Chancellor. They barely needed to be told before they went to arrest him. They never suspected they’d left the real Sith Lord back in the hangar, smiling as things went according to his plan as they always did, instead of taking him with them.

Prequel to There's Been a Mistake.

Work Text:

They were going to arrest Sidious. They thought they had won. They overlooked one vital thing. They didn’t know they were once again falling for the real Sith’s lies. They bought the lie easily. They’d already suspected the Chancellor. They barely needed to be told before they went to arrest him. They never suspected they’d left the real Sith Lord back in the hangar, smiling as things went according to his plan as they always did, instead of taking him with them.

This had been a long time coming. Darth Sidious had been planning this since he'd killed his Master, the former Darth Sidious, at eight years old. He'd finally gotten a chance to set it into motion when two Jedi and the people they were guarding had landed on his home planet. The one Jedi had freed him- like he couldn't have killed his master himself- and made sure he'd gotten into the Jedi Temple. He'd attracted the attention of Darth Mistak, a Bane line Sith that Sidious wanted nothing more than to kill, and he'd allowed the other Sith Lord to plot him into a potential position of power, should anything happen to Mistak. Giving him access to the chips in the clones' heads had been a major part, as Sidious could now wipe out the Jedi whenever he wished.

Then there was his Apprentice. At first, she'd been a liability, someone who could turn her master over to the Council. But then he'd seen the opportunity. He'd trained her as his Apprentice, and she would be ready to rule by his side. And, if something went wrong, which it wouldn't, she could always take his title and rule.

And his wife, who had given him the names of the Senators he'd need to kill when his Empire rose, as well as a way to make Mistak think Sidious needed him. He'd kill her and the children soon enough.

First, though, he'd follow the Jedi to the Chancellor's office. He'd kill them, and all the Jedi. When all the Jedi and Bane line Sith were gone, he'd declare the Empire Mistak thought would be his. And the Sith would once again rule. He would be the true Darth Sidious.

The galaxy was his.
