Chapter Text
“Alright gang!” the Doctor yelled with a winning smile. Yaz and Dan face the Doctor and Yaz can’t help but feel butterflies when she sees the Doctor smile. It wasn’t always this bad before but ever since Dan mentioned to her that it was obvious that Yaz liked the strange alien. It’s like all of her feelings for her have been dialed up to 11; especially now that she’s had to face her feelings head-on instead of ignoring them.
Dan gives Yaz a knowing look while smiling and says, “What’s up Doctor?”
“Ah! I was thinking that after that whole fiasco with the time loop that we could take a little break to earth. Yaz you can see your family and Dan gets his house back. I put a reset timer on it, so all we gotta do is put it back to where it was and let it go back to normal size!”
“Sounds good to me Doctor. We can put Dan’s house back and then say hi to my family and maybe see Graham and Ryan and then find something to do.” Yaz said.
“Sounds like a plan! To Liverpool, we go.” said the Doctor as she flipped a few switches dancing around the console until she finally got to the lever and pulled it down. The Tardis rocked around until it landed a few seconds later with a thud as she lifted the lever and she grabbed a trunk from underneath the console and rummaged through it and found what she was looking for with a hushed “yes!” and shoved it into her pocket. She grabbed her coat and sprinted to the door and yelled for Dan and Yaz to follow.
As they all walked outside they could feel a bitter chill and light snow was falling. Yaz huffed a hot breath into her hands and rubbed them together. “Uhh, Doctor? We left around Halloween, right? Did you jump us to winter?” Yaz asked. “Uh ya, Doctor, I don’t want to complain but it’s a tad cold.”
“You know what I think we are in the middle of January 2022, feels like it.” The Doctor said as she hopped. Yaz pulled out her phone and looked at the date, “Yup, 18 of January 2022!”
The Doctor turned around and said to both of them, “You got to admit I’m not bad.”
“Alright big-head,” Yaz mumbled with a smile.
“Oi!” The Doctor said with a cheeky grin and continued to walk when she remembered that her friends were cold. “Oh ya, if your cold just head into the Tardis wardrobe I’m sure she has some coats you guys can wear and I’ll wait for ya out here.”
Dan practically ran back into the Tardis to get a coat and Yaz went to follow but stopped and turned back to the Doctor. Yaz stared for a minute and with the Doctor’s back to her, she could see her rock on her feet and sigh as she pulled her arms close to her chest.
“You need anything Doctor? I mean,” she paused as the Doctor turned to look at her wide-eyed and Yaz could feel her cheeks burning, “, won’t you get cold? You had that scarf that one time, do you want me to grab that while I’m there?”
The Doctor laughed a little, “I’m alright, truly Yaz, but thank you.”
Yaz gave a very not convinced “Uh-huh,” and darted into the Tardis. “Nice going Yasmin very non-chalant. Ugh,” Yaz said to herself and walked to the wardrobe to find Dan putting on a puffy jacket. Yaz started looking for a coat when Dan quickly said, “See ya out there!”, with a clap to her shoulder as he ran out.
Yaz smiled to herself. She’s glad the Doctor was able to fix his house. I mean It was Karvanistas fault but if they weren’t following him he probably wouldn’t have set that trap in the first place.
Yaz finally found a nice warm coat that was light brown and was looking around to find the Doctor’s scarf. When she couldn’t find it she resorted to asking the Old box for help.
“Hey uh I don’t know if you can hear me or not but It’s cold outside and I wanted to give The Doctor her scarf but I can’t find it. Do you know where it is?” It took a second but finally, the Tardis hummed and on a hanger was an old-looking scarf that was frayed on the ends and incredibly long with a bunch of different colors. “Uhhh, I said the Doctors Scarf, ya know the blue one with rainbow trim?” The Tardis let out an annoyed hum and kept the old scarf out but also brought out the one Yaz wanted. Yaz grabbed the blue one and made to dart out of the wardrobe when the Tardis beeped loudly. Yaz stopped in her tracks and said “What!” a little annoyed. The Tardis wiggled the rack the other scarf was one as if to say “don’t forget this!”
Yaz huffed and grabbed the scarf and said, “I doubt she needs two scarves. That is a lot especially with this one.” She said holding up the really long one. The Tardis hummed again and this time made a mirror jump in the room so Yaz would look at it. “Okayyy, What do you want me to wear the other one?” The Tardis hummed what sounded like a yes and as Yaz wrapped the long one around herself she could have sworn she heard the Tardis hum suspiciously as if hatching a plan.
Yaz looked at herself in the mirror and hummed in approval it was really long but it was comfy. Yaz rested her chin on her chest and let her face fall into the scarf and she could have sworn it smelt like vanilla and custard creams. It smelled of the Doctor but something was off it smelled like her but also didn’t.
As Yaz finally stepped out of the Tardis she hears Dan say, “Finally Sheffield! we were thinking you got lost.” he said with a laugh. The Doctor turned to her and she froze on the spot. “Yaz? Where did you get that scarf from?”
“Haha, very funny Scouse, and sorry for the wait. The Tardis was being huffy with me. I asked her where your scarf was Doctor and she gave me this one,” she said grabbing the one around her neck, “and when I said that wasn’t your scarf she got all huffy and finally brought out yours. And then she wouldn’t stop pestering me until I grabbed this one and put it on.” Yaz said
The Doctor grinned toward the ground and looked up at the Tardis who hummed Innocently. She glared and smiled. “That old girl probably just misses someone wearing that old thing or just wanted to mess with me. That’s the scarf I wore when I was much younger.” The Doctor said.
“Oh, I can put it back.” Yaz said quickly starting to unwrap the scarf but the Doctor grabbed her hands and rewrapped it around Yaz and said, “Oh no Yaz you’re fine I was just surprised to see it is all. You can wear it, I don't mind.” The Doctor said and looked at Yaz with a soft smile closing her eyes. The Doctor was really close and the Doctor was still holding her scarf. Yaz could feel her body temperature rising and when the Doctor let go Yaz could have sworn The Doctor let her hands linger longer than necessary and missed the closeness as much as Yaz.
Yaz, let go of a breath she didn’t realize she was holding and handed The Doctor her other scarf wordlessly. Yaz couldn’t trust herself to form coherent sentences at the moment and the Doctor quickly warped it around herself with a quick, “Thank you.”
Chapter 2: years for me, months for you
Summary:

Chapter Text
As they walked down Dan’s street to get to his empty lot the Doctor and Yaz walked by each other and the Doctors hands kept brushing Yaz’s and every time they did it made her more nervous. Yaz looked up after a few minutes of walking and saw Dan look at her with a shit-eating grin. Yaz rolled her eyes as the Doctor continued straight on stuck in her own thoughts; oblivious to the silent exchange.
When they finally reached Dan’s empty lot the Doctor pulled out the tiny house from her pocket and instructed Yaz and Dan to close their eyes until she said to open them. Yaz could hear the Doctor muttering to herself and fiddling with something until finally, Yaz heard her shuffling towards them and the buzzing of her Sonic. Yaz felt a boom and the force rocked her on her feet as she wobbled roughly and Yaz flung her arms out as she opened her eyes. As she was about to fall and face plant she felt arms wrap around her torso from behind and raise her up until her back was flush against someone. It took Yaz a minute to register who had caught her until she hears the Doctor say, “ I gotcha.” the doctor’s breath grazed Yaz’s ear and it took all of Yaz’s willpower not to shiver.
They are brought back to reality when Dan yells, “Omg DOCTOR my house! It’s amazing!” They Jump apart and take a look at the house. The Doctor really outdid herself. Instead of the house that they first saw that was falling apart and close to disrepair was a brand new-looking house with a Tardis blue door. That’s when the Doctor said, “Wait till you see the inside I may have got a bit carried away.” That’s when Dan darts inside and flings the door open to find that everything inside is brand new as well. There is a new fridge new floors and fancy lights. “Wow Doctor,” Yaz says breathlessly. The Doctor smiles and says a bit quietly, “ I also may or may not have made a closet a tad bit bigger on the inside, I noticed there wasn’t much storage space sooo-” She is interrupted by Dan rushing her and picking her up in a huge bear hug and swinging her around.
“I love it Doctor, thank you so much, mate.” he laughs. Yaz giggles into her hands as he sees the Doctor’s shocked expression and then hugs Dan back. When he puts her down the Doctor shoves her hair out of her face and fixes her shirt that lifted up and Yaz can’t help but notice how red her face is. The Doctor clears her throat and says flustered, “Yes well, you're welcome. I did feel responsible for you not having a house so I thought I’d fix it up a bit.”
“Oh, no Doctor. You’re were ok! you didn’t have to, but I love it!”
“Alright, so what should we do? Go ice skating! Rock Climbing! OOO how about cryptid hunting I’ve always wanted to find the other cryptids after seeing Nessie! Or oh that’s right do you want to stop by ad see your family Yaz?” The Doctor says excitedly.
Yaz and Dan give each other a look while trying to hide their grins.
“Uhh how about we see my family and then go see a movie Doctor? ” Yaz says with a smile, “How ‘bout it Dan?”
The Doctor and Yaz look at him and he gives them a small smile.
“I kind of want to check out the rest of my house if that’s alright. You two have fun without me.” He says with a sweet smile.
“You sure Dan, we can wait for you!” The Doctor says.
“No, I’m alright really, and plus I wanna go and try to talk to Di anyway,” Dan says quietly.
“Alright if you say so. Meet at the Tardis when were done?” The Doctor says.
“Ye sounds good,” Dan says with a nod of his head.
“See ya later Dan,” Yaz says as they walk out the front door and wave. They walk in silence for a little bit until the Doctor pipes up and says loudly, “Ok what movie do you want to see Yaz!”
Yaz laughs and shakes her head and pulls out her phone to check out what movies they can see. Yaz sees a couple of kid movies and keeps looking until she sees spiderman is still playing.
“Oh hey, we could watch spiderman if you want?”
“OOO is that the one kid who gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gets a bunch of powers, which wouldn’t happen by the way.” the Doctor says matter of factly. “You would get radiation poisoning plus get poisoned by whatever spider bit you, and trust me after having died from radiation twice; not fun,” she says a little too brightly. Yaz used to her ramblings continues to look at her phone for a good time to see the movie when she registers what the Doctor just said, “Wait what?” Yaz asks looking at the Doctor. The Doctor ignores Yaz and instead asks what times Yaz thinks is good.
“Uhh we can go at 8 that gives us 3 hours to see everyone,” Yaz says as they finally reach the Tardis.
“Right sounds good! let’s head to good ol’ Sheffield then ya?” The Doctor says pushing open the doors and half-jogging to the console. “Want to help me fly this ol girl, co-pilot?” The Doctor says to Yaz.
“Of course!” Yaz says as jogs to the console to help.
The Doctor and Yaz land the Tardis just below Yaz’s family flat and when they walk out Yaz stops abruptly. “Yaz, you ok?” The Doctor asks tenderly.
“Ya, I’m ok I just thought. Nah never mind let's head on up.” Yaz says and speed walks towards the elevator. When they finally reach the door Yaz is about to knock but stops dead in her tracks with her fist hanging in the air.
“Yaz…” The Doctor says quietly as she puts her hand on Yaz’s shoulder and she notices Yaz tremor a bit. The Doctor opens her mouth to say more but closes it lamely she is never normally at a loss for words but when it comes to family, she has no idea.
Yaz then sighs and knocks three times very quickly on the door. The Doctor can hear people talking loudly to each other and Yaz’s mum opens the door and as soon as she sees her daughter she smiles widely and pulls Yaz into a hug which Yaz returns with bone-crushing strength. “Oh wow,” Najia laughs, “Someone missed me.”
“I did miss you, Mum,” Yaz says quietly. The pull apart and Yaz quickly wipes a tear from her face and smiles and realizes the Doctor is still behind her. Yaz looks behind her to see the Doctor standing awkwardly fiddling with the sleeve of her coat.
“Oh, I brought the Doctor if that’s alright,” Yaz says.
“Of course, Hi Doctor.”
“Hi, Yaz’s Mum!” The Doctor says loudly as she gives Najia a quick hug.
Najia Laughs and says, “Please, I’ve told you already call me Najia.”
The Doctor smiles and follows them inside, obviously not paying attention and will probably never call Najia anything but Yaz’s Mum.
Yaz can’t help but smile to herself. The Doctor can be so childish sometimes, but thinking about it Yaz swears she remembers the Doctor saying “What is the point in being a grown-up if you can’t be childish sometimes,” when on one of their many adventures. Yaz hears her mom say something about making some tea, her Dad being out but he will be back soon, and that Sonya is in her room, and as soon as she said that Yaz’s mum yelled to Sonya that Yaz was home. A few minutes later as Yaz is sitting at the table watching her mum busy herself in the kitchen when Sonya enters the Kitchen. “Hiya,” Sonya says as she walks up to Yaz and gives her an affectionate light punch on the arm. Yaz laughs and pulls her sister in for a hug. Sonya laughs a little and lightly hugs her back. “Uhh missed you too. It’s only been two months drama queen.” Yaz lets go and looks at her sister and back to her mom who is in shock that her daughters even hugged. Najia laughs and says that she should have got a picture while Yaz laughs awkwardly and rubs the back of her head nervously.
“You alright Yaz?” Sonya asks a bit worried she loves her sister but it isn’t like she hugs her sister every day. The most affection they give is a snide remark or a light punch or shove.
Yaz’s Mum spins around from making tea and almost yells, “Oh my god are you Pregnant!”
Sonya and Najia all look at Yaz wide-eyed and Yaz shakes her head dumbfounded and laughs, “Wow ok no definitely not Pregnant.” She says slightly annoyed.
“Are you sick!” Najia asked with worry in her voice.
“Nooooo,” Yaz says getting more annoyed.
“Did someone die?” Sonya asked confused.
Yaz paused and wiped her hands over her face, “Oi you guys! can’t I just have missed ya,” Yaz says very annoyed now. The Doctor stops her wandering about the flat and stands next to Yaz and looks at her with a small smile, just as Yaz’s dad walks through the door.
“Ah Hakim look who came to visit,” Najia says happily.
“Yasmin! You came!” Hakim says as he drops his groceries on the table and gives Yaz a hug. After all of that Yaz makes sure to keep the hug brief and smiles at her Dad. The rest of the night goes well as they talk and Sonya tells her about what’s been going on and Yaz’s Dad talks to the Doctor about the local conspiracies he has uncovered and what he thinks the police should do about it. The Doctor notices that after Sonya and Yaz’s Mum asked her why she was being so affectionate her mood turned a bit mardy. Yaz checks her phone after they have all talked for a while and notices the time is close to 7 and that they should be heading out. When Sonya asks what they are in a hurry for the Doctor blurts out, “We’re going to see Spiderman!” with a wide grin. Yaz just smiles at the Doctor.
“Oooh, nice! Tell me how it is. I might go watch it if it’s good!” Sonya said.
“ Ye ye will do. gotta go. I’ll see ya later!” Yaz said as she nudged The Doctor to tell her that they were leaving.
“Bye, everyone! It was nice seeing you all again!” The Doctor yelled as she waved out the door.
As soon as the door shut Yaz sighed and rubbed her face quite roughly.
“I feel like a broken record, but you alright Yaz?”
‘I’m fine.” Yaz said with a sigh. As soon as she said that she heard the Doctor say that a hundred times in her head and she felt a little bit of revenge to be able to say it back but that feeling goes away as quickly as it came. How can Yaz expect the Doctor to talk to her about how she feels if she won’t when the moment arises?
Yaz sighs again and The Doctor grabs her arm gently to reassure her that she’s here for her.
They begin to walk back to the Tardis so the Doctor lets her arm fall from Yaz’s.
Yaz huffs and says, “I just… I haven’t seen them in 3 years and I know it’s only been a few months for them but, I don’t know, I expected a much more welcoming reception than what I got and they just drive me crazy. I don’t know I mean I got a better hug from you and you only didn’t see me for a few hours… I’m just being silly.” Yaz finishes almost in a whisper.
“Hey!” The Doctor says sternly enough that it breaks Yaz’s train of thought. The Doctor grabs Yaz’s shoulders and makes the woman face her. “No, How you feel isn’t silly in any way. And for the hug, I just missed my Yaz. Plus my hugs are pretty good.” The Doctor said trying to make Yaz laugh.
It worked because Yaz giggled and said, “Alright Bighead, Your hugs aren’t thaaat great.” Yaz says with a smirk. Yaz can feel the lie on her tongue. She knows that she would trade her left foot if the Doctor would just hug her again.
The Doctor can tell she is lying because she then says, “Ok fine then, No more Hugs from me then.” The Doctor smirks and looks at Yaz and what she does next makes The Doctor’s hearts skip a beat. Yaz rushes for the Doctor and almost knocks her down with the force of the hug and grips her jacket as if she might disappear. The Doctor grips her tightly back and tries to get her hearts under control. She was doing great until Yaz said right into the Doctor’s ear, “Fine I’ll just have to give all the hugs then.” The Doctor clenches Yaz tighter and tries to calm her breathing down but nothing seems to be working especially with Yaz so close.
The Doctor quickly detaches herself from Yaz. She shoots a finger in the air and says a tad louder than usual, “To the Movies!” and practically runs down the stairs to the Tardis.

Chapter Text
The Tardis lands with a thud in the alley right next to the theater and the Doctor grabs Yaz’s hand and runs out of the TARDIS practically skipping. Yaz laughs and feels butterflies grinning like a goofball.
They reach the line for the ticket booth and see two women sitting against a wall and whispering to each other. One of the women has very curly brown hair with skin just a little lighter than Yaz’s and the other woman is pale and has long brown hair tied back in a loose ponytail. Yaz notices that they are wearing all black. The Doctor isn’t sure but they give her a bad vibe. She frowns at herself and Yaz looks at her and raises her eyebrows as if to say, “What’s wrong.”
The Doctor shakes her head and realizes she let her smile slip. This is supposed to be a fun time, don't ruin it, Doctor. There aren’t always baddies at every corner. They finally reach the Ticket booth and she hears Yaz talk to the worker excitedly and tries to pay attention but can’t when she notices the two women stopped whispering and were now staring very intently at every move Yaz makes. Yaz hands the Doctor her ticket and The Doctor smiles. She quickly darts to the door and opens it up for Yaz making sure she is in front of her and walks in behind her. She hears Yaz say, “Thank you.” and as soon as they turn a corner and can no longer see the two women she lets out a breath.
Yaz notices that the Doctor is tense and goes to ask what’s wrong but before she can she gets excited when she sees a Slurpee machine and darts for it. Yaz hums to herself, shrugs her shoulders, and follows The Doctor. They grab popcorn and a bunch of candy along with their Slurpees and juggle it all laughing on their way to the theater.
They find their seats, settle in, and watch the ads that start playing. The Doctor noticed Yaz tapping her feet excitedly waiting for the movie to start. The Doctor laughed quietly making Yaz look at her to see what she was laughing about and her face became very warm when she realized the Doctor was laughing at her tapping her feet.
She mumbled a “sorry” and hooked her feet together.
The Doctor noticed and quickly said, “Oh no Yaz! You were fine. I just thought it was sweet. Are you that excited to see the movie?”
Yaz could feel her heart practically pound in her ears and managed to say, “Ya, I’ve been waiting all year to see it.” and was starting to swing her locked feet lightly without noticing. The Doctor noticed but decided against saying anything this time and just smiled warmly at Yaz.
Yaz didn’t even have to try and be cute. Just doing small things like that made the Doctor’s hearts clench.
Halfway through the movie Yaz really had to go to the restroom and was trying really hard to hold it but when she couldn’t anymore. She tapped the Doctor on her arm as she was standing up and said quickly, “I’m going to the restroom, I’ll be right back.” Yaz turned to leave and was walking down the aisle when she saw the Doctor walking behind her.
Yaz looked at her as she was walking up and when the Doctor caught up with her she said, “Girls go to the bathroom together right! Always wondered why.”
Yaz rolled her eyes with a smile and said, “I don’t know some people just do it to make sure they're safe and some do it so their friend isn’t alone. I mean that is the only thing I can think of.”
The Doctor nods thoughtfully and says excitedly, “Well then, I'm going with you to make sure nothing bad happens and so you aren’t alone!” and looked at Yaz with a grin that crinkled her eyes and Yaz could feel her face getting warm and quickly looked away to try and hide it.
When they reached the restroom the Doctor put a hand in front of Yaz to stop her before she could go in. Yaz looked confused as she watched The Doctor hunch her back and open the door slowly. She looked back and forth before taking her head out and said, “Alright coast is clear!”
Yaz sighed a laugh, rubbed her forehead, and mumbled, “Oh my god.” as she walked in as the Doctor waited outside for her. The Doctor quickly became bored and dug through her (bigger on the inside) pockets and fished out her yo-yo. She started to fling her yo-yo around without thinking and space out in her own thoughts until she saw a woman down the hall staring at her who looked familiar.
Was that one of the ladies outside? She looks like the one with long brown hair. Why is she staring? Do I know her? Does she know me?
The Doctor stuck in her own thoughts lost control of the yo-yo and hit herself right in the mouth. The Doctor yelped and brought her hand to her mouth and brought it down to see her hand had blood on it. The Doctor huffed and dug through her pockets while licking her lips to keep the blood from dripping and when she finally found a handkerchief and brought it to her face she saw a woman watching her with wide eyes down the hall. She looked familiar and had pale skin and long brown hair in a ponytail. The Doctor scrunched her face in confusion and tilted her head to the side still holding the handkerchief to her lip. Before she could say anything Yaz walked right in front of her and said, “Oh my god, Doctor! What happened?” The Doctor forgetting all about the woman says, “I was playing with my yo-yo and got distracted and hit myself in the face.”
Yaz huffed a laugh and took the handkerchief away from the doctor’s mouth holding her hands to get a closer look. The Doctor sucked in a breath when she moved it and Yaz grimaced a sorry.
Yaz frowned and brought up her hand to hold the side of the Doctors mouth so she could see the cut. When Yaz got close, their noses were only centimeters apart, the Doctor’s hearts beat like crazy and she became very still, but Yaz didn’t notice. She was too worried about the Doctor’s cut to notice how the proximity was affecting the alien.
Yaz hummed to herself and pulled back, “It should be ok your just bleeding a lot. I kinda want to put a band-aid on it though.” she said thoughtfully as she started to dig through her bag.
The Doctor was still trying to control her breathing so she just nodded.
“What even got you that distracted that you hit yourself in the face?” Yaz asked as she pulled out a dark tin can from her bag and grabbed a small bandaid.
“Oh nothing, just someone staring at me gave me some bad vibes. Nothing to worry about.”
Yaz started to unwrap it and the Doctor noticed that the bandaid was black and had stars and small plants on it. The Doctors heart clenched when she saw it. Yaz got space band-aids!
The Doctor made a face of aw and Yaz confused asked, “What?”
The Doctor looked at Yaz in awe and pointed, “It has space on it.” in a hushed voice.
“Well ya, I saw them at the store awhile ago and thought I had to have them!” Yaz said with a smile. “Now hold still ok,” Yaz said as she grabbed the Doctor’s chin and lightly ghosted her fingers over her lips as she put the band-aid on. The Doctor couldn’t help but let her eyes flutter shut. When Yaz yelled, “Done!” and stepped away. She quickly missed Yaz being so close. The Doctor opened her eyes and imagined Yaz kissing her split lip better, but quickly dismissed it.
Enough of that Doctor.
Yaz leaned back admiring her work and said, “Should we head back to the movie!”
“Yes! Back to the spider-boy!” she said happily. Yaz smiled and as they started to walk back the Doctor turned around to see if the woman was still there but she was gone. The Doctor frowned and tried to dispel her worry’s but she had a feeling something was going on, but the Doctor put on a happy face for Yaz so she wouldn’t worry her.
They can investigate after the movie.
Notes:
For the band-aids, I was thinking of those welly ones. They are very cute.
hope you guys liked it and the lady that kept watching the Doctor was very weird.

Chapter Text
They walk back to the Tardis after the movie, talking excitedly about the movie, and Yaz giggles when the Doctor starts to wave her arms around while she is talking, obviously excited and loving, making Yaz laugh.
Yaz and the Doctor make it out of the theater and Yaz wipes the tears from her eyes to try and calm down her giggles when she looks up behind the Doctor she sees the same women from earlier staring at her with an intensity that makes Yaz uncomfortable. She coughs awkwardly and looks away. The Doctor notices Yaz's sudden awkwardness and she asks what's wrong.
“There are two women just staring really hard. I don’t know what their deal is but it is making me uncomfortable.” Yaz says. The Doctor’s face crunches up and a little line forms between her brows.
“What do they look like Yaz?” The Doctor asks sternly. Yaz looks anywhere but at the two women and says uh well one is tall and has dark skin and curly hair and the other one looks about my height and has pale skin and brown hair in a ponytail. I think it is the two women from earlier when we first got here. They gave off creepy vibes then too. What’s their problem, do they know you?” Yaz asked. The Doctor tried to look behind her shoulder without being too obvious but they noticed and quickly left before the Doctor could get a good look. The Doctor hummed with irritation and sighed.
“Well, should we head back then?!” The Doctor said loudly. It took Yaz by surprise but she smiled as they began the walk back to the Tardis.“Ya! Sounds good.” As they walked Yaz could see the Doctor looking around suspiciously and it made Yaz nervous.
I should text Dan that we are on our way.” Yaz mumbled more to herself than to the Doctor but as she grabbed her phone from her back pocket The Doctor grabbed Yaz’s arm quickly and made Yaz jump. The Doctor gave her arm a light squeeze as if to say sorry while staring at her with something Yaz couldn’t place. “Actually, hold off on that Yaz.” The Doctor mumbled.
Yaz could feel the butterflies return. Keep it together Yaz. She just grabbed your arm
“Okay!, but why?” Yaz said quickly. Was that too fast? I hope she didn’t think that was too fast. I’m fine, totally fine. Yaz went to put her phone back in her pocket but noticed the Doctor was still gripping her arm. Yaz felt her heart skip a beat and said, “Uh Doctor can I have my arm back?” Yaz said with a small smile. The Doctor looked frazzled and dropped Yaz’s arm. “Sorry Ya not sure yet, and oh ya sorry.” Yaz could have sworn she saw the tips of her ears turn red and she quickly said, “Onwards and forwards!”
Just as the Doctor and Yaz reach the alley that the Tardis is parked in, Yaz hears scuffling behind her. She whips around and pauses looking left to right. “Yaz? What is it?” The Doctor asks concern in her voice.
“I heard something,” Yaz takes a few steps away from the Doctor and looks around again and mumbles, “Must have been a passerby.”
“But no one is out. It’s late.” The Doctor adds.
Yaz feels her anxiety build a little but tries to brush it off, “Well then maybe a fat cat.” Yaz says hopefully. The Doctor smiles and walks in front of Yaz to take a look. She puts her hands on her hips and takes out her sonic and she scans in front of them. She scrunches her face in confusion and holds her sonic up to her ear.
“What is it, Doctor?” Yaz asks, confused.
The Doctor waited for a second and then quickly shoved her sonic back into her pocket.
“Nothing, nothing at all! Just a cat, as you said!” She quickly spun around and grabbed Yaz’s hand and walked toward the Tardis very quickly.
“Doctor, tell me what is it? What's wrong?” Yaz asked worriedly.
The Doctor stopped at the doors of her box and let Yaz’s hand go. Yaz looked at the Doctor with so much care that The Doctor felt her hearts squeeze.
“Don’t worry Yaz, it’s nothing.” She smiled as she ducked quickly into the Tardis. Yaz frowned and looked back toward the alley and shut the door. The Doctor was running around the console flicking levers and pushing buttons as the Tardis set off.
“Are we going to go pick up Dan? I mean if we are, I really should text him.” Yaz said.
“Uh no not picking up Dan just yet. Actually, could you tell him that we will leave tomorrow?” The Doctor said not looking up from her console looking at a screen as she pushed buttons furiously.
“Ya course.”
Just as Yaz finished texting Dan, The Doctor landed the Tardis with the familiar thud.
“Alright! Just landed outside ya parents flat!” She yelled with a smile. “I thought that you guys should spend the night here and get some rest and we can leave tomorrow!”
“Are you leaving?” Yaz asked. She tried to keep the worry out of her voice but she couldn’t help it. What if she leaves again and doesn’t come back this time?
The Doctor looked at Yaz and could see the worry on her face and her hearts broke. She ran over to Yaz and engulfed her in a hug and said into her hair, “I’m not leaving you Yaz. Not ever again.” Yaz hugged back tighter and sighed a breath of relief. The Doctor let go of Yaz after a second but stayed close.
“I’m going to stay overnight too, I'm going to do some Maintenance on the Tardis.”
“Alright. If you need anything though or get bored just come get me ok.” Yaz said as she turned to leave. “No getting into trouble tonight ok. Not by yourself at least.” Yaz smiled as she walked out the door and closed it softly.
The Doctor ran towards the console and turned on the screen so she could see Yaz make it safely to her family flat. Then she mumbled, “Sorry Yaz but…” and she dashed from the console, grabbed a few custard creams and shoved them into her pocket and grabbed her invisible watch, and made her way towards the street outside. She stepped out front and patted the Tardis as it made a little hum under her hand. “Sorry can’t take you, Yaz will freak if she hears the Tardis move, and I’m sure Yaz will make sure you're here all night. I’ll be back” She tapped the box a few times and lifted her hood. The Doctor moved behind her box and clicked her watch vanishing from sight. Now Doctor, time to find out who those people were and why they are following us.
Yaz wasn’t stupid, far from it. She knew the Doctor was up to something, it isn’t like the Doctor is a great liar at all. Yaz knew she probably wasn’t doing maintenance. Yaz peeked out her window for a few minutes waiting for the Doctor to do something and just as she was about to leave, doubting her instincts, she saw the woman leave the Tardis and pull up her hood and go behind her ship out of sight for a few minutes. I knew it! I knew she was up to something, but why has she been behind the Tardis for so long? After waiting 10 minutes Yaz called out that she was going to be right back and got back a half listening, “Ok be safe.” from her mom. She walked out the door looking at the Tardis from the balcony. After waiting another few minutes Yaz walked down to the Tardis and peaked towards the back to find no Doctor. Where did she go?
Yaz huffed and the rush of being right started to wear off and irritation and worry followed quickly. She lied to me. Cool ok. Why? What is she doin? Yaz hummed and looked around trying to find anything that might help and laughed when she saw biscuit crumbs on the sidewalk.
“I might just be able to follow the crumbs to where she went.” Yaz joked to herself. Yaz then heard the Tardis vworp as if laughing. Yaz looked up at the Tardis and placed her hand on the wood. “Hey if you are listening, Do you know where the Doctor went?” Yaz asked quietly.
As she did she berated herself. Talking to a machine, are we Yaz?
She gave a hopeful smile waiting for the Tardis to help and when she didn’t get anything back she laid the back of her head on the Tardis and slid to the floor. Yaz slid her head into her hands and took in a shaky breath. She left me again. Doesn’t she trust me? Does she not want me around? No, she just said she wouldn’t leave me. But she did. At least the Tardis is still here, maybe she went for a snack. But why would she need to be so sneaky? She is up to something. Ugh .
Yaz flings her head back trying to clear her thoughts before they run away without her and accidentally hits the Tardis harder than she meant to.
“Ow... uh sorry,” Yaz mumbles with her eyes closed. She feels the Tardis hum. Feeling defeated Yaz starts to go back to the flat but remembers she has to have a reason for leaving so she goes to get a snack. Who knows maybe she did go to get a snack. Highly doubt it, but who knows. Yaz checks her phone and sees that it is 1:32 am. Whoops ok, good thing the convenience store is open 24/7. Yaz grabs her earbuds and walks leisurely to the store thinking of what snack to get. As Yaz walks up to the store she sees people inside. Good there open. Yaz walks in taking out her earbuds grabbing a Powerade and some Takis. She never tried them but heard they were good so why not?
As Yaz walks out of the store she hears someone running on the gravel of the parking lot and looks around quickly. She notices a dark curly-haired woman staring at her from across the lot and Yaz recognizes her as one of the creepy ladies from the movies.
Yaz’s heart quickens and she does a mental checklist of all the things she has on hand to defend herself with but huffs Irritatedly when she realizes the only thing pointy she has on her are her keys. She grabs them tight in one hand holding her chips and drink in the other. Yaz fast walks out of sight of the woman and decides to take the fastest route home. As Yaz starts to almost run she takes a quick look behind her to see if the woman was following her and Yaz hears her name too late as she runs full-on into someone hard. Yaz falls to the ground with the other person on top of her.
A few minutes earlier—
The Doctor speed-walked munching on her biscuits, sonicing her way through the streets. She picked up their life signals again and noticed that they were close. One was off a mile away and the other was maybe about 100 feet from the Doctor now. The Doctor saw that it was the lady with a ponytail and followed her. She was now close enough to do a rough scan and frowned when she saw she wasn’t human. Alright, what species is she? Gotta get closer. The woman continues to walk and stops as she rounds a corner. She sees the woman has stopped across the street from a convenience store. The Doctor leans in and scans again. She closes her eyes in frustration. It can’t figure out what type of species she is.
Ok Doctor, think. What aliens look like humans? Could be a Zygon. Definitely not a Timelord I would know. Stuck in her own thoughts she doesn’t notice the woman turn around abruptly to leave and she reacts just in time to move out of the way before she gets trampled. Just as the Doctor brushed herself off and was about to follow her, she sees Yaz in the parking lot looking worried as she walks quickly toward where the Doctor is. The Doctor looks behind and sees the woman is gone and turns off her watch just in time to yell, “Yaz!” but it was too late and Yaz crashes into the Doctor with a yelp and her snacks and keys skid.

Chapter Text
Yaz shuts her eyes bracing for the impact and when she doesn’t feel her head hit the sidewalk and instead feels someone's arm holding her head to them and holding her torso. I thought I heard the Doctor. Yaz's heart starts to beat like crazy when she smells the familiar engine oil and custard cream smell of the Doctor. Yaz felt the Doctor’s head next to her. The Doctor tried to say something but couldn’t get it out clearly with her mouth muffled against Yaz’s shoulder.
Yaz let out a huff that sounded more like a laugh and said, “What?” still giggling. The Doctor lifted her head and moved her left arm that wasn’t pinned by Yaz's head to steady herself. She whipped her head to get her hair out of her eyes and when that didn’t work she blew a huff that made it slightly better, she looked down at Yaz and said “Are ya alright?” “Ya think so. Thanks for cushioning my fall.” Yaz said softly. “Of course, I can't have my Yaz’s beautiful brain hurt. Right up we go! Think ya can lift ya head?” the Doctor said cheerfully. Flustered after what the Doctor just said Yaz quickly lifted her head and noticed she was holding on to the front of the Doctor’s coat and quickly let go blushing like crazy.
“Y’Alright Yaz your temperature jumped quite a bit.” The Doctor asked. As quick as she could Yaz jumped away from the doctor mumbling, “Fine! I’m fine, fine.” The Doctor tilted her head in her “humans are confusing” way and lifted herself up finally and offered her hand to Yaz who gladly took it. After they were both up they brushed themselves off and Yaz found her keys and stuffed them into her pocket as the Doctor grabbed Yaz's snack and drink. Yaz held out her hands to take them from the Doctor but she said, “Nope, I got 'em’.” popping the p. Yaz rolled her eyes fondly as they started the walk back to Yaz’s family flat. “Uh, Doctor? You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to but why are you sneaking around?” Yaz asked. “And why didn’t you tell me your plans?” She thought, staring at the Doctor. The Doctor sighed and said,” Ahh that obvious was I?” rubbing her chin as she thought. Yaz just stared, quietly willing for her to continue until she finally did.
“Yaz I'm worried for you is all. This is your home. I want to make sure you can come back here and be safe and feel safe. If something happened I would never forgive myself.” Yaz’s heart clenched and looked away. Yaz finally mumbled, “Alright I get it. But you still should have told me. I was worried.” The Doctor nodded and Yaz continued, “Well what were you looking into?” Yas asked, confused. The Doctor looked around and silently put her fingers to her lips and said, “I’ll tell you when we get back, not right now.” As they walked back towards the Tardis, the Doctor was looking down streets and alleyways keeping an eye out for the woman she was following but little did they know that they were watching them from the rooftops.
