Work Text:

Eddie Munson didn’t think that he would be on the run for murders that he didn’t commit. He also didn’t think that those said murders would actually have been caused by a strange, other dimensional being.

Then again, weirder shit had happened in Hawkins, apparently. The fact that he was dive-bombing underwater directly after Steve Harrington, who was now his fucking boyfriend, was proof.

His clothes were soaked, and his jacket hardly felt like it was even a jacket now, just something keeping him from swimming faster. The bright glow of the gate hurt his eyes, but he had to keep going. He wasn’t letting anyone else die. Not on his damn watch.

As he fell through the gate, he heard screaming. Not human, no. But animal. More like a screech than anything. Eddie quickly picked himself up, being met with another horrifying sight that burned itself in his sockets.

Steve was being choked to death by a bat-like creature, while another one dug into his stomach. He was silently crying, his entire body convulsing in pure terror.

Eddie quickly grabbed the oar that Steve had been holding when he was dragged down, smacking the bat that was digging into his boyfriend’s stomach. He grabbed it by its wings, using the oar to detach them from the creature’s body.

It gave a screech as blood spattered everywhere, the thing falling to the floor in agony.

He grabbed the creature choking Steve by the back, taking a small pocketknife out of his jacket. He quickly cut the tail of the thing off, stabbing it in the side of the head immediately after.

The third creature squealed in fear as it saw it’s friends get cut down, beginning to fly away… only to be stopped by Robin grabbing its tail and slamming it on the ground.

“Holy shit!” Eddie yelled, Nancy beginning to beat the creature’s head in with an oar. Eddie ran over to Steve, helping him unwrap the detached tail from around his neck. He pulled the other’s head to rest against his, hearing Steve’s breath begin to even out as he held Eddie’s hand.

“You’re okay, I promise. You’re okay,” Eddie muttered, letting Steve lean on him fully. The other gave a hiss of pain at the movement of his body, Eddie immediately pulling back and looking at Steve’s stomach.

“Okay, okay… fuck, shit. Wheeler!” Eddie screamed, looking over at Nancy. The girl was leaning over, hands on her knees as she panted heavily.

“What?”

“Got anything we can use as a bandage?”

“Yeah!” Nancy shouted, taking off her belt from her pants and tearing the thin material. The material widened out, elastic coming off and now being reduced to just fabric.

Eddie gave a nod as she tossed it his way, deciding to wrap the wound once they weren’t in the middle of this goddamn frozen lake.

“Hey, hey, can you stand?” Eddie asked quickly, earning a nod from Steve as he spit more black ooze out of his mouth.

“Okay, come on, dumbass,” the metalhead sighed out. He quickly pulled Steve up, wrapping on arm around his waist to keep him from falling over.

“We’ve gotta book it to the other side!” Robin shouted, already beginning to run forward. Nancy immediately followed after, with Eddie and Steve close behind.

The second they got back to this dimension’s version of Skull Rock, Eddie was propping Steve up against the wall and grabbing the makeshift bandage.

“Thank you, thank you…” Steve muttered, giving a sigh as Eddie nodded. His face was pale and it looked like the adrenaline was wearing off. Instead, pain was kicking in.

“You’re fine, alright? You’re good.”

“I just had a bunch of weird bats dig out, like, a chunk of my flesh.”

“And? You’re a badass, as we’ve established. You’ll be okay,” Eddie muttered, finishing up the bandage and getting a snort from Steve in return.

“Here. I’m not having you walk around in just a bandage,” he sighed out. He quickly took off his vest, pulling off his leather jacket and wrapping it around the other’s shoulders. He gave him a kiss on the forehead, feeling his heart rate finally slow down.

Steve was okay. He was going to be fine.

He let out a sigh of relief, feeling a tug on the back of his neck as he looked back down at Steve.

“Don’t leave me hanging, sweetheart,” he joked, causing Eddie to let out a chuckle and give his boyfriend a peck on the lips.

Yeah, they were going to be okay.
