Chapter 1: Lumpy is a dancer !!! Good for them!!!

Chapter Text

“Ever wondered what Lumpy does after our cases, Max?”

Said lagomorph never once stopped stabbing random spots on his desk.

“Hopefully create weapons of mass destruction they end up giving us and not accidentally stolen by our sworn enemies.”

Sam smiled at his response.

“Your long-winded talks of violence never ceases to amuse me, Max. But knowing our cadet, it’s probably something more tame.”

“USING weapons of mass destruction?”

“Maybe we should act like responsible legal guardians and ask them what they’re doing with their life.”

Both looked at each other, silently communicating how they’d bring it up to Lumpy.

“When they get here?”

Max nodded, “Where is Lumpy anyway?”

“Some store I hope. I sent them out to get something for us to munch on.”

They turned back to what they were doing, waiting for Lumpy to walk through the door to answer the question fresh on their minds.

After what felt like forever, Lumpy opened the office door, some kind of sweet treat in their hands for their co-workers.

“Hey cadet! Glad you made it back safe.”

Lumpy smiled at the dog, before motioning towards the treats in their hands, making Sam’s eyes widen with joy.

“I almost made a funeral plan for you, Lumpy!” Max jumps up from his spot, walking over to where Lumpy held the sweets. “What’s in the box, hm? A box demon named Daisy?”

Lumpy shook their head, “Doughnuts! Cheep, easy, and convenient.”

As soon as the box was placed onto the table, the three started to dig in, making themselves comfortable on the floor, waiting for the commissioner to give them the call to action.

During this time, Sam remembered his and Max’s conversation from earlier.

“Say, cadet? What do you do when your not on a case and or with us?”

Lumpy turned their head towards Sam, face lighting up a bit.

“I dance for this group!” They were expecting a laugh from Max, but one never came. “I’ll spare you the specifics of it. We have a big show coming up too and I meant to tell you guys I wouldn’t be home until late.”

Both looked at the rookie for a minute.

“Where exactly is this place?” Max’s tone was oddly soft, a hint of fondness in it. It would’ve been disturbing as hell if you were anyone but Sam.

“Uh… a few streets down. I think where Geek used to work?”

The two older freelance policemen shared a look, a fond look.

“We’ll be there!” Sam excitedly exclaimed.

“But they’re out of tickets?”

“That’s never stopped Sam and I from going to Sybil’s plays when she was an actress for that week. We’ll be there, kid!”

They were, in fact, at their big show. Holding sappy flowers and a promise to highway surf on the way home.
