Work Text:
Izzy had traveled over to Tai’s office, bringing with him the laptop and setting up the work station at Tai’s desk. Yolei joined Meiko at her desk and starting setting up a pair of screens. One for communication, while the other would act as the primary digital gate for them to travel through. As they were rounding out the last of the hook ups, Hanza Yamada, Jun and Lee arrived in Tai’s office together.
“Oh! Mr. Yamada. We weren’t expecting you on a sunday sir, but pleasure to see you.” Tai rushed over and bowed. Meiko followed close behind with Meicoomon and did the same.
“Tai, good to see you. Welcome Mr. Izumi, it’s a pleasure seeing you again.” He cordially greeted.
“Great to see you too Mr. Yamada. Sorry for the informal greeting but we’re trying our best to prepare here.”
“Why are you setting up here?” Lee asked.
“While my building has some fail-safes that allow us to continue with minimal power, they have nothing on a government buildings new fiber-optic network infrastructure. At least not yet.” Izzy playfully said wagging his finger. “The faster our connection, the more capable we’ll be in communicating with the other digi-destined around the world.” Matt and Sora walked in, followed closely by Mimi and Joe.
“Hey, have you seen the triage unit they got downstairs! I don’t think we have a setup that nice even at the hospital! Hahaha!” Joe exclaimed on the way in.
“Mr. Kido I presume.” Hanza extended his hand.
“Dr. Kido, but you presume correctly. Pleasure to make your acquaintance Mr.?” Joe happily shook his hand.
“Hanza Yamada. Director of intelligence and operations.”
“Nice to meet you.” Joe smiled, finishing a firm hand shake. One by one they all greeted the three of them as Davis, Ken, Willis, Cody, Kari and T.K as they arrived. All of them bringing their digimon in tow.
“Well, this is quite the group.” Jun complimented.
“Not the whole group though.” Tai flashed a quick smile. “Alright, parties out here guys!” Izzy opened up his laptop as the digimon came out. First Agumon, then Gabumon, Tentomon, Palmon, Gomamon then Biyomon. Each rushing over to their partners with a big smile.
“Did they really just come out of your laptop!?” Hanza exclaimed.
“I created a digital server to protect them. So long as there’s a connection, I can pull them from any screen.” Izzy went on to explain.
“Most impressive.” Jun complimented.
“Izzy, will Omnimon be ready for this fight?” Lee cut in.
“No, sadly Homeostasis has blocked our digimon from digivolving, but it hasn’t shaken our resolve. Our plan still stands to use every resource available to us to combat this invasion.”
“Really ticks me off too.” Matt snapped. “If Homeostasis wants us to lose, it’s doing it right.”
“Hey Izzy, we got everyone here on call!” Yolei called out.
“Prodigious!” He smiled, rolling over to the computer. “Hey you guys!”
“Bonjour!” Catherine greeted, her hair cut now to shoulder length, with a red ribbon tied off on the left.
“Ey, how’s it going!? Nice to meet ya Izzy!” Russell cheered. “Where’s Mimi at!?” He asked. Russell was a well tanned fairly strong looking man with a tattoo of Eaglemon on his left shoulder. He had brown eyes and light brown hair with just a thin beard running down to his chin.
“Right here Russell! How’s Laura, she still driving that cute little convertible of hers!?” Mimi chuckled.
“She’s nervous, as usual. She’s done a little work on the car, it’s workin great! Hey, we’re gonna hit the beach after this and catch some rays, you guys should come! Bet that boyfriend of yours could use a tan, haha!”
“You takin the piss or something?” William spoke up. The red haired English boy was wearing a university of oxford uniform and had green eyes with lots of freckles on his face. “Get serious man, we got a major threat on our hands here.”
“It’s not a time for playing around.” Carlo agreed. With brown eyes and short dark hair, Carlo looked as though he was barely eighteen. He wore a white undershirt and plaid over shirt that were visible on the monitor. “Izzy, what’s the word. Are the breaches coming?”
“Not long now.” Izzy stated. “Everyone have your communicators ready. Remember, normal devices might shut down during this invasion if it happens on top of you, relay it on the communicators right away. Otherwise wait for instruction.”
“A wise decision.” Elder Gennai spoke up from the bar on Tai’s side of the office. “Hope you don’t mind, it’s going to be a long day, I figured a little coffee might help.”
“Master Gennai!” Everyone greeted. Suddenly Dark Gennai, Dorumon, younger Gennai and Hackmon appeared together too.
“Great, he’s here.” Sora sniped at Dark Gennai.
“I’m just here to observe and catalogue. Of course if you happen to sweeten the deal with a human death toll, I’d greatly appreciate it.” Dark Gennai chuckled.
“Can we put a muzzle on him?” Willis breathed.
“Don’t make me bring out your old pet. Or have you forgotten about poor little Diaboromon?” He taunted.
“Shut up!” He fired back.
“Everyone calm down!” Hanza spoke up. “This office is getting a little crowded. Tai, before we depart I need to know what you need us to do.”
“Right, apologies sir.” Tai bowed, but Meiko was the first to start explaining.
“Sir. In the event of a breach over a Japan, we should distribute an emergency alert to the area and order an immediate evacuation to avoid civilian casualties.”
“Exactly.” Tai reaffirmed. “The strategy will be to move the fight to a less densely populated area, or preferably deserted like the mountains or the water. Either way, public safety has to be the highest priority.”
“Well said.” Hanza agreed. “In regards to military action?”
“Don’t engage. These digimon are very strong.” Tai cautioned.
“Agreed sir.” Meiko spoke up. “Best to leave the fight to us. Military personal should focus on evacuation efforts. Transports, refuge in shelters, etcetera.”
“I hate to interrupt but.” Young Gennai spoke, producing a golden digi-egg.
“Whoa! No way!” Davis exclaimed.
“A golden digi-egg.” Cody breathed. Gennai walked over to Willis and placed it in his hands.
“Veemon and Wormmon will be fused to form Imperialdramon, and while you’ll also have Cherubimon with you, we figured it would be beneficial to have Rapidmon with us as well.”
“One last thing.” Lee approached Tai with a manila envelope and placed it in his hands. “Daigo left this to me after he passed. To be honest, I’ve always kind of hated having it. Being digi-destined was his thing, not mine.”
“Huh?” Tai pondered, opening the envelope. Inside was the commendation letter that he had written for Tai. However the date it was written was years before. Alongside that, was a picture of Daigo, Maki and their digimon cuddled up, along with a personal note from Daigo.
“Tai. I’m sorry if this is way you’re receiving this news. Just like you, I was once digi-destined, and leader of our team. Which is probably why Himi and I were so eager to take this job to watch over you and Meicoomon. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the coming days, but I know things are spiraling out of control fast. I wrote up a commendation letter for you just in case you took an interest in government work, I’ve always been impressed with your leadership skills and compassion for your friends. I just want you to know that no matter what happens, I know in the end you’ll always do what’s right. Working with you and the other digi-destined showed me that you really are the best team, and while you may be a complete slacker with your homework assignments. I can see you give it your all to protect what really matters. Stay true to that, keep faith in your friends and yourself. I believe in you, so, dream big, Tai.”
Tai choked back a few tears, easing the letter down on the table. Matt and Sora came over and placed a hand on each of his shoulders.
“Tai?”
“It’s a letter, from Mr. Nishijima.” Tai answered.
“Wha? No way.” Matt breathed, as he and Sora shared the letter.
“Daigo wanted me to make sure you got that someday. I just never wanted it to be something that wasn’t delivered personally. I apologize for not giving it to you earlier. I beg your forgiveness, after all Daigo didn’t leave much behind to remember him by.” Lee explained. “I hope it helps.”
“Thank you.” Tai bowed, as Lee walked back over to Hanza’s side.
“Well, best of luck to all of you. I’m going to sure up things on our end. I trust in your skills digi-destined, do not let us down.” Hanza spoke before departing.
“Yes sir.” Tai and Meiko answered together. Agumon found his way over to Veemon who was chatting with Wormmon near the window.
“Hey guys.” Agumon moaned, tipping his head.
“Hey Agumon, you alright?” Veemon turned to him with a growing look of concern.
“I’m sorry I can’t help fight.” He bowed his head a little.
“Hey don’t sweat it!” Veemon rushed over and placed his hands on Agumon’s shoulders. “I’m ready and I’ll even fight extra hard, just for you.”
“Don’t feel bad Agumon, it’s not your fault.” Wormmon spoke up. “You’ve been through a lot already and fought a lot of battles we couldn’t help in. I’m glad to take the front this time to help protect you.”
“That’s right, we’re digi-destined. When one of us can’t fight, we stick up for em instead. You’ve done that lots for us and we love ya for it! We’re happy to do the standing up this time around.” Veemon joined in.
“Aww, thanks you guys.” Agumon smiled. “Then I promise to cheer you on then with all my heart, we can even share a snack when you get back!”
“I’d like that! We should get a huge pizza, extra everything!” Veemon laughed alongside Agumon.
“Don’t gotta ask me twice.” He praised, holding Veemon’s hands. “Whoa!!” Agumon was caught off guard as the building shook and the lights flickered.
“Tai! It’s starting!” Izzy stated. “Fractal portals are trying to open, the protocol Willis and I made are shutting them down, but the breaches have begun!”
“If it has started, than the ultimate level digimon must be breaking through. Do you have a location on the breach!?” Hackmon snapped to Izzy.
“I’m ready!” Dorumon growled.
“Isolating now.” Izzy frantically typed away. Another quick shake shook the building.
“Whoa!” Everyone shuddered.
“Hackmon, Dorumon, there’s an inlet about 40 kilometers south of Digitamamon’s restaurant, do you know it?”
“Yes, a vast beach lies there with a light house.” Hackmon acknowledged.
“I know that place, there used to be a fishing village there.” Dorumon agreed. In a flash Hackmon vanished and Dorumon growled. “Hey, that’s cheating!” He shouted, vanishing as well.
“Champion breaching on earth!” Izzy cried out. “Twenty eight kilometers from here! It’ll land in Arakawa, next to Kohoku Bridge!”
“T.K, Kari, you’re up!” Tai ordered.
“You got it!” Kari agreed.
“Let’s do this!” T.K fist pumped. “Digi-armor Energize!”
“Digi-armor energize!!” Kari joined in.
“Gatomon Armor digivolve to! Nefertimon, the angel of light!”
“Patamon armor digivolve to! Pegasusmon, flying hope!” Matt swung open the massive windows and with a gust of wind almost knocking him over he called out.
“Go, now!”
“Right!” They said together, flying out the window.
“I hope they’ll be alright.” Gabumon spoke up, standing next to Agumon.
“I know what you mean, I was just talking to Veemon and Wormmon about it. I still feel like we should do something to help.” Agumon stated.
“Don’t worry.” Tentomon assured the two of them. “The whole gang got us this far, they’ll take us the rest of the way.” Gomamon jumped in and spoke up.
“We should watch these fights and learn all we can.” Gomamon suggested. “If we’re called in, whenever that might be, we gotta at least know the kind of stuff we’ll be up against.”
“Mmhmm.” They all agreed.
“Davis, Ken, Willis! Breach on File Island. Champion level.” Izzy called out.
“We’re on it!” Davis shouted. “Open that port and send us in! We’ll beat that digi-loser black and blue!”
“Got that right!” Veemon echoed.
“We’ll fuse as soon as we’ve arrived. Let’s not give them the chance to strike first!” Ken advised.
“I agree, let’s be ready for anything.” Wormmon echoed.
“I’ll have your back.” Willis agreed. Stashing away the egg for now. “Lopmon, Terriermon. Don’t hold back now!” he said, leaping through the digital gate.
“Master Gennai, another two breaches in the digital world. Both on the server continent. Champion levels as well. Are Firamon and Garurumon ready?”
“Of course, at a moment’s notice. I can feel it from here, the ripples of the breaches stretches far. I’ll take care of these ones.” He said vanishing before them.
“Another one.” Izzy stammered. “Right here on earth. Playa Lagartos on the Yucatan Penninsula in Mexico!”
“Russell, Carlo.” Yolei spoke up on her mic. “You guys are up. Head to Playa Lagartos, a champion is breaching there.”
“Finally some action! You heard the lady Parrotmon, let’s kick this up to Eaglemon and show em what we can do!”
“Fanbeemon, let’s show them a sting or two, eh!?” Carlo chuckled.
“Muey beuno me amigo! Let’s fight!” Fanbeemon answered. Izzy’s building shook once more, this time the main power went out and the backup kicked in.
“There it goes.” Young Gennai sighed. “I’m going to go speak with Homeostasis. I’ll try one final plea to get it to release Omnimon. If that goes ill, I’ll join Jesmon and Alphamon.”
“I will attend to my duties. Try not to die before we get to kill you.” Dark Gennai cackled.
“Oh no.” Izzy stammered. “Will, Catherine I hope you packed a coat. New breach forming in Svalbard. Just off the coast of Longyearbyen.”
“Bloody hell. Lovely, alright I’ll port over right away.” William stated.
“I’ve got a nice warm coat, We’ll be ok.” Catherine smiled.
“Oh, you have a coat.” Floramon fumed. “Vous n’aves pas à vous soucier du fletrissement par le froid.”
“It shouldn’t be too bad Floramon, I wouldn’t worry about wilting.” Izzy answered back. “Longyearbyen is usually quite warm during summer. Tu iras bien.”
“Merci!” Floramon waved.
“Thank goodness you speak French.” Sora smiled. “I didn’t have a clue what she was saying.”
Dorumon arrived at the edge of the cliff near the sea where the distortion had begun. Almost immediately he could feel the shockwaves from the energy it was releasing as Hackmon sat only a few dozen feet away. Spotting him, Dorumon sneered and turned away, keeping to his usual scowl as he fixated on the portal energy growing over the ocean. Hackmon sighed and teleported next to Dorumon, much to his brother’s dismay.
“What do you want?” Dorumon moaned, taking to a more flat stare out at the ocean.
“Nothing. I just wanted to make sure you’re ready.” Hackmon said, taking a deep breath.
“Worry about yourself.” Dorumon retorted quietly.
“I can’t.” Hackmon refuted, shaking his head. “The digital world and all that reside within it are my concern.”
“Tch.” Dorumon scoffed.
“Even you.” Hackmon spoke, turning to his brother.
“I’ll be fine. In case you’ve forgotten I’ve gotten very good at caring for myself.” Dorumon said once more. “You’d do well to worry about what will happen once this stupid truce ends.”
“Is there truly nothing of my brother left in that husk?” Hackmon said, slitting his eyes. Dorumon gasped, and locked eyes on Hackmon.
“Don’t forget who left who first! After all, I’m not the one who abandoned our cause to protect the digital world.” Dorumon argued.
“And yet you decided to aid King Drasil, as his actions have led to the suffering of human and digimon alike.” Hackmon countered.
“How many digi-destined are dead now?” Dorumon playfully pondered. “Seems we are not racking up the kill count on humans as fast as you and Homeostasis.”
“There, we both agree.” Hackmon conceded.
“My point exactly.”
“Brother, I need to trust you. Whatever comes through that portal. We must fight together.” Hackmon stated.
“As much as it pains me to admit it, I agree. King Drasil does not want this world overrun with primal digimon. Destroying or removing them is its goal as well.”
“However; while Gennai has overseen caring for me. I worry no one is watching your back.” Hackmon argued.
“You don’t know my master as well as you’d like to think.” Dorumon chuckled, shaking his head.
“Still.” Hackmon rushed in to Dorumon, holding him for a moment while placing a small white sphere in his hand. “This, will take you wherever you need to go. Regardless of where you are. If the fight turns ill, I want you to run.” Dorumon gazed down at the sphere while his brother held him. Sneering at the sphere in disgust, he immediately questioned.
“You think I’m a coward?”
“No.” Hackmon refuted. “I think you have a great deal of courage. If we fail here, Alphamon may be the only support Omnimon will have.”
“Spare me your fake concern and useless gifts.” Dorumon refuted, shoving him away. “The brother I hatched with is long dead.”
“Believe what you will, regardless.” Hackmon argued, clasping Dorumon’s paw shut. “Keep it. For your own sake. You’ve nothing to lose by doing so.”
“Whatever.” Dorumon brushed off, stashing the sphere away. “I’ll be the one to carve whatever comes through there in half. Perhaps then, you’ll learn to fear what I can do to you.”
“Perhaps.” Hackmon sighed. Another shockwave flashed from the sky. This one a great deal more powerful than the last. The water in the bay began to recede, while the wind howled, lashing across the sands and kicking them up passed the two of them. Crackles of lightning flashed across the sky, as fractal portals attempted to open but were being cut off by spheres of light. “Thank you, Izzy and Willis.”
“Tell me you don’t feel that.” Dorumon shuddered.
“I do.” Hackmon answered, his gaze fixed on the now opening portal. “It has arrived.” Descending from the sky, a massive Megaseadramon splashed into the ocean, a few seconds later the waves crashed against the cliffs from the tide and the arrival of the ultimate digimon. He was much larger than any Megaseadramon from the digital world, breaching from the water he lashed out with his tail sending torrents of water sky high.
“He’s so strong.” Dorumon nervously stammered.
“Focus brother. We need only keep him distracted and away from other digimon. The others will come.” Hackmon stated, letting a few trembles escape. “Hopefully soon.”
“Well. Let’s give him a proper greeting.”
“Dorumon, digivolve to! Alphamon!”
“Hackmon digivolve to! Jesmon.” Athos Rene and Por took formation around Jesmon while Alphamon extended his arm and produced Oryuken, his giant sword. With his gold wings flinging from his back, he stood ready.
“So. Hold our ground.” Alphamon spoke in a deep and thunderous voice.
“Yes, hold the line.” Jesmon prepared, aiming his blades at Megaseadramon as he stood towering over the water. Flying from the cliff, they went to meet him head on, stopping right in front of his face. “You trespass into our world. Return whence you came, or suffer the consequences.” Alphamon didn’t speak, only readied his sword, holding it in front of him.
“Hahahahahaa! Look at the little toy soldiers! This is the best you could come up with? I’ll lay claim to this weak little world, once I rip you to pieces!” He shouted, lunging for the two of them.
Flying along the river, T.K and Kari were easily able to find the portal opening up. Crackles of lightning shot across the sky, as cars below began piling up from the disabled traffic lights.
“What a mess.” T.K sighed, looking down at everyone.
“Where’s the military? Aren’t they supposed to be here?” Kari wondered, trying to find any of them on the ground.
“It’s a lot harder to respond inside the city. Whatever comes out, we gotta drag it away.” T.K reminded her.
“Right! Ah!” Kari cried out as a streak of lightning almost hit her and Nafertimon.
“Kari!” T.K dove in, but Nafertimon was able to steady herself.
“I’m alright!” Kari answered back. However just as they glanced back to the portal, Gesomon descended, landing in the water with a massive splash that washed over the streets. “That’s a Gesomon!”
“Yeah, come on let’s land and take this guy out!” T.K led the way to the ground, landing near a thin stretch of grass between the road and water. Pegasusmon and Nafertimon reverted forms and T.K gave Patamon the go ahead.
“Patamon, warp digivolve to! Seraphimon!”
“Gatomon, warp digivolve to! Magnadramon!”
“Go get him!” T.K cried out.
“Soften him up and toss him back through that portal!” Kari instructed. Both Magnadramon and Seraphimon honed in on Gesomon and unlike some of the others that had come through before. He seemed mostly feral and unstable.
“Coral crusher!” It shouted, swinging wildly for the two of them but Seraphimon lined up his attack and fired.
“Seven Heavens!”
“Fire Tornado!” Magnadramon joined in, blasting Gesomon as the spheres of light from Seraphimon’s attack landed. Gesomon was knocked back from the attack into the water but delved deep down to rise up again near the bridge. “Oh no you don’t, not getting away from us.” Both of them gave chase and Seraphimon came up on him first.
“Hallowed Knuckle!” He shouted, firing a single sphere from his hand. The blast was knocked away by one of Gesomon’s tentacles as another lashed across Seraphimon, sending him in to one of the pillars of the bridge.
“Seraphimon! Take the fight away from the bridge!” T.K called back.
“Magnadramon, try to get a hold of him, pull him away!” Magnadramon tried to grab hold of a pair of tentacles and lift up the big digimon but he was latched onto the bridge good and tight.
“Deadly shade!” Gesomon bellowed, firing a wave of ink into Magnadramon’s eyes.
“AH!” She cried out, landing in the water. Gesomon capitalized on the opportunity and dove in to pull her down, wrapping her up in its tentacles.
“No you don’t!” Seraphimon dove right in after her, drawing out the laser sword from his wrist he lashed at the tentacles holding her down. The slashes were actually seriously hurting Gesomon and it was enough for him to release Magnadramon and allow Seraphimon to bring her out of the water. Gasping for air she huffed in his arms. “Are you ok?”
“I hoped this form, would be, enough.” Magnadramon said, gasping for air. Her eyes still covered in black ink.
“Full cure!” Seraphimon channeled onto her, healing her injuries and cleansing her eyes. “I can only do that once, perhaps it’s time we stepped up a bit further.”
“Agreed.” She said, reverting to Angewomon.
“Angewomon, digivolve to! Ophanimon!” She transformed just as Gesomon leapt from the water once again.
“Coral Crusher!” He cried out taking a swing at both of them, however this time Seraphimon and Ophanimon blocked the attacked together.
“Eden’s Javelin!” Ophanimon shouted, firing out a beam of yellow light, piercing through Gesomon’s tentacle.
“Seven Heavens!” Seraphimon fired at the core of the big digimon over and over again.
“Sefirot Crystal!” Ophanimon called, bringing ten crystals in a sefirot formation between her hands and fired on Gesomon. The barrage of attacks left Gesomon weakened and sizzling in the water. “Now!” Ophanimon and Seraphimon rushed for Gesomon, picking the big digimon up and lifting him into the sky. Both of them shouted as they tossed him back through the gate, watching it suck him back into the sky like a giant whirlpool.
“Izzy!” T.K called out on the communicator. “Gesomon’s down, we’re secure here. Try to shut down that portal!”
“Got it!” Izzy said back at the office. It took a little while but eventually the portal began to close.
“That’s one down, and to be honest, I think we got lucky.” T.K said, turning to Kari as Seraphimon and Ophanimon arrived to meet them.
“He was able to hurt you as Magnadramon, are you ok Ophanimon?” Kari asked taking her hand.
“I’m alright, thanks to Seraphimon’s healing. What would I do without such a loving partner and mate.” She smiled.
“Aww.” Kari cooed.
“Come Ophanimon. The day is not over, and our friends are in danger.” Seraphimon reminded her, placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Agreed.”
“Izzy, we’re ready to port to the digital world.” T.K spoke once more. “How are Jesmon and Alphamon doing?”
“I haven’t heard from Gennai yet, but from what I’ve been monitoring the fight’s not going to great. Get over there if you can but please, be careful!” Izzy cautioned. “Ah! Wait, Kari, T.K!” Izzy cried out.
“What is it!?” Kari answered.
“Get to Playa Lagartos in America right away! It’s Russell and Carlo! They’re losing!”
“No!” T.K cried out. “Izzy we need a portal!”
“Opening at your location, setting GPS coordinates in your return bands. Get ready to hit it once you land in the digital world.”
“Got it!”
Back in the digital world Jesmon and Alphamon’s fight with Megaseadramon was well underway.
“Lightning Javelin!” The massive serpent fired, narrowly missing the two as the bolt crashed into the coast and exploded. Alphamon urgently turned to Jesmon and said.
“Get him distracted.”
“Right.” Jesmon agreed. Taking a triangular shape with his blades and circling Athos, Rene and Por around him, they began spinning as Jesmon charged up. “Aus Generics.” He called out. Resonating with energy, he was charging up to unleash his next most powerful attack. “Judgement of the blade!” In a flash of light, hundreds of slashes lashed across Megaseadramons body in an instant, causing him to reel in pain.
“Alright, that one hurt, but you’re gonna pay for it!” He shouted, lunging for Jesmon as he backed off toward the cliff. Alphamon had charged up his blade and descending from the sky he slashed down across Megaseadramons back and following the slash a mass of explosions lashed across his spine, firing water in every direction and nearly destroying the beach entirely, sparing only the cliffs above. Megaseadramon was knocked down hard into the water, and seemed dazed from the attack. “Well done, brother. Now, let us send him back where he came from.” Jesmon leapt in taking hold of Megaseadramons head while Alphamon grabbed his tail.
“Not a light sucker is he?” Alphamon grunted as the two were able to elevate him out and up into the sky. “Almost!” Alphamon shouted as they approached the portal but Megaseadramon woke up and immediately lashed down with his tail, and whipped his bladed head across Jesmon’s arms. The attack flung Alphamon into the water and Jesmon reeling in pain as the sword on his left arm shattered along with the one on his leg. Megaseadramon flopped into the ocean as Athos, Rene and Por took formation around Jesmon once again. Jesmon ejected the blade from his arm and digitized new weapons in a howl of pain.
“Alright snake, round two.” Jesmon growled.
Back on Earth, T.K and Kari arrived near the tropical seas of the Yucatan. Seraphimon and Ophanimon picked up their partners and headed toward the portal to find Tigervespamon was the only one fighting against Kuwagamon up on the edge of a nearby cliff. The two were exchanging blows in the air before Kuwagamon snatched his leg and tossed him down into the ground and landed just about half-way up the cliff.
“Oh great, him again!” T.K moaned, flying toward them.
“Where’s Russell and Eaglemon?” Kari spoke into the communicator.
“Kari!? Is that you?” Carlo answered. “Help us! Please!”
“What’s going on!?” T.K asked.
“He destroyed Eaglemon! Russell, he’s in bad shape. Kuwagamon’s overwhelming us! He’s too strong, we can’t-“ He was cut off as Kuwagamon fired his Power Guillotine attack, splitting the cliff in half. “AHHH!!!” He cried out.
“Carlo! GAH!” Tigervespamon leapt up and tried to dive after them but was caught by Kuwagamon’s pincers.
“No!” Kari cried out as they were finally close enough to attack, Ophanimon and Seraphimon set the two down and with no hesitation fired on Kuwagamon.
“Eden’s Javelin!”
“Seven Heavens!” The attacks hit true and while Tigervespamon remained locked in Kuwagamon’s pincers he seemed winded from the blow. Seraphimon and Ophanimon rushed in and in a vain effort tried to pry him free as he struggled to break from Kuwagamon’s grasp, but he snatched the two angel digimon in his claws, tossing them aside and then leaned back and tightened his grip on Tigervespamon.
“Forget me! Save, Carlo! AHHH!!” He cried out, Kuwagamon showed no mercy and sliced him in two. He fell to the ground, instantly destroyed.
“No! How could you do that to him!?” Kari cried out.
“Carlo hang on! I’m coming!” T.K called out, rushing into the water he started swimming out to where the cliff fell into the water. Ophanimon and Seraphimon engaged him once more while T.K dove deep down and spotted Carlo slowly floating to the surface. Grabbing him, T.K brought him up and carried him to shallow water. Laying him down near the beach Kari joined him and gasped at the sight of Carlo. T.K leaned in to listen for breathing but there wasn’t any.
“Don’t you die on us! Just hang on!!” T.K shouted with tears in his eyes, compressing on Carlo’s chest. Coughing he spat up a gout of water and carried on coughing for a good while longer while T.K cradled him in his lap. Shivering Carlo fell unconscious once more, but at least he was still alive. “I’m so sorry we couldn’t get here sooner.” T.K stammered. “We won’t let Kuwagamon get away with this.”
“Tigervespamon, was destroyed.” Kari cried, clasping her chest. “This isn’t how it’s supposed to be.”
“No it’s not.” T.K said, gently laying Carlo down he got up and placed his hands on Kari’s shoulders. “But we are going to make it right. Together.”
“T.K?”
“This fight isn’t over! We can avenge them! Kuwagamon has to be stopped. For the good of our world and the digital world, let’s end this!” T.K reinforced as his crest began to ignite from his chest.
“No more pain, no more needless suffering.” Kari bowed her head as her crest lit aflame. Gritting her teeth she shouted at the top of her lungs “Ophanimon!!”
“Seraphimon!!” T.K joined her in shouting. A light shot from the two of them, firing high into the sky, as a great sphere began to form radiating down like the sun over the battlefield.
“I can feel it.” Ophanimon spoke softly.
“Let us make our stand.” Seraphimon proclaimed.
“Seraphimon digivolve to!”
“Ophanimon digivolve to!”
Joining together into one form, four angelic wings, the top two larger than the bottom flung from their back, as silver plated armor, interlaced with shimmering chain and gold trims washed over their body. A tri-tipped crown of silver, gemmed with a pink crest of light on the left and gold crest of hope on the right sat between the crest of miracles. The new digimon’s blue eyes at long last shown, with golden hair raining down across his back, tied off at the base with a white ribbon. A massive silver sword runed in digicode extended out, gilded with golden wings on the guard and blue gem in the hilt, along with a silver kite shield trimmed in gold and emblazoned with a golden crest of miracles. Kari and T.K looked on in awe, for the two of them had finally done what their older brothers accomplished so long ago.
“Aegismon.” The deep yet soft voice spoke out. Its light igniting the sky as he gradually lowered himself down to the ground to face Kuwagamon one on one.
“Unreal!” T.K breathed.
“Aegismon.” Kari whispered, holding T.K’s hand tight. “End this fight, stop Kuwagamon.” Kuwagamon leapt in and tried to swat the angelic digimon away, but hammered down on the shield with no hope of budging him. In a swift upward swing of his sword he severed Kuwagamons arm as it fell to the ground and dissipated. Reeling in pain the big digimon backed off and tried for a Shadow Slash but the attack broke on his shield, dissipating behind him as Aegismon ascended into the air.
“Seraphin’s Blade!” Aegismon slashed his own golden X shaped attack, lashing Kuwagamon hard and blowing him off the cliff and down into the water.
“Kari! T.K! What’s going on! I’m picking up intense readings coming from your location, was there another breach!?” Izzy asked.
“No.” They both answered together.
“Seraphimon and Ophanimon just fused together. They’re Aegismon now.” Kari explained, still in awe of the sight before her.
“Wha!?” Izzy stammered, pulling it up on the monitor he got a read on it with no list of abilities, just a name and image. Tai and Matt rushed over to see along with the other digimon. “That, is, prodigious!”
“Aegismon!?”
“You copy cats, just had to one up us, huh?” Matt snickered, speaking into the communicators. Kuwagamon flew up from the water and charged in for Aegismon. His shield began to resonate with golden light, swinging it as Kuwagamon came in he shouted.
“Divine Shield!” Both of Kuwagamon’s pincers were broken in the attack. Rising right up to his face, Aegismon aimed his blade and gave one last order. “Begone from this world, flee, or perish here and now.” Roaring Kuawagmon swung for Aegismon with his only working arms but missed every attack. “Very well, you were warned.” He stated leaping back he began charging up his sword, the blade resonating with light and crackling with lightning as six other light-forged swords surrounded him. “Crusade of the Light-keeper!” He shouted, the six swords launching up into the air and raining down on Kuwagamon as Aegismon rushed in, slashing straight through and cleaving him in half. As Aegismon passed, a massive pure white explosion shot out and Kuwagamon evaporated inside. As the light subsided, Aegismon settled down beside T.K, Kari and Carlo. He easily stood a good ten feet higher than either Seraphimon or Ophanimon and smiled at the two of them.
“Great job, Aegismon.” T.K smiled back.
“I just knew you two could do it.” Kari chuckled, holding T.K close.
“Now we must tend to our friend.” Aegismon looked to Carlo and his wings began to resonate.
“Holy Healing!” He said as his voice echoed. A rune of light circled beneath him and wrapping around Carlo was bands of healing light. Grunting and moaning he began to stir as the spell subsided. “It should be enough for him to make it to a hospital and rest now.”
“Kari, T.K, can you hear me?” Izzy spoke up.
“Yeah, we can hear you.” T.K answered.
“Can you get to the digital world? Aegismon would likely be a big help.”
“Right, we’re on it.”
“Uh, Kari?” T.K poked at her chest for a moment as the crests slowly flickered out. Aegismon split into Tokomon and Nyaramon, landing on the sand nearby. “Slight problem there Izzy. Aegismon used up too much energy, that was his first time ever turning into that form, not to mention the fight with Gesomon. They’re back to Tokomon and Nyaramon.”
“Oh boy. Well, don’t worry about it. Get Carlo to a hospital then report back here. You guys did amazing today.”
“How are William and Catherine doing?” Tai asked, back within Tai’s office.
“William, can you hear me?” Izzy asked over the communicator.
“Yeah, we hear ya.” Will answered. He and Catherine were just landing at a motel in Longyearbyen when he asked. “We had to fight off a nasty Monochromon near the ol coal mines when a Mojyamon decided to cut in for a dance.”
“It wasn’t fun, but we managed.” Catherine joined in. “We’ll be ok but our digimon are sore and tired. We need a good warm meal and a long rest.” She pleaded.
“Ya fancy a trip to my father’s pub? He’ll feed us well enough.” William offered.
“Sure, that’d be nice.” She smiled.
“But you’re both ok? Thank goodness. Russell and Carlo didn’t fare very well. We believe Russell is deceased, and Carlo is being tended to by T.K and Kari.”
“Damn it!” William exclaimed. “Izzy, if things go downhill you call again yeah? We’ll be there right quick. Just need some proper rest first.”
“Right, will do.” Izzy replied, turning back to Tai and Matt.
“That leaves Willis, Davis and Ken.” Tai spoke softly.
“I haven’t heard from them yet.”
Rapidmon and Cherubimon were in hot pursuit of a Blackgatomon that was leaping from tree to tree, inching closer to the primary village.
“Don’t let her get to the village!” Davis called out, as Imperialdramon flew overhead in his fighter form. He took a swing to pick up the elusive cat, but she just inched her way through and climbed up to the top of a nearby tree.
“Lightning Paw!” She cried out, striking Imperialdramon right in the cheek. It wasn’t enough to send him down, but he staggered back landing on his knees. “Don’t you humans ever learn? Don’t let a black cat cross your path, it’s bad luck! Haha!” She giggled, leaping away. After skipping through a few trees, she landed inside Primary village and was caught a little off-guard. “What’s this place?”
“Freeze!” Rapidmon cut in front of her along with Cherubimon.
“How bad you two need your tails whipped by me before you get the message?” She hissed, raising her claws.
“Wait, stop!” Elecmon cried out.
“Huh? Is that Elecmon?” She wondered, strolling over to him she met him face to face.
“Listen to me, you can’t fight here! If you damage the village or the babies it’ll be catastrophic to the entire digital world!” He asked, keeping his hands out stretched. “Please, take it somewhere else, anywhere else.”
“You’re the caretaker here?” She asked, scratching her chin.
“Yes, I protect the village and tend to the eggs that hatch here.”
“So it’s a nursery.” Blackgatomon looked around. “Huh, I didn’t think these still existed.”
“Are you going to cooperate now or not?” Rapidmon asked with Imperialdramon stepping in behind her.
“Cram it, the lot of you.” She glanced back for a moment. “Hmph, I’m not such a monster as to torment some little babies.”
“Thank you, now if you could please leave this- huh?.” Elecmon started to say but Blackgatomon just passed by him. “Uh, wait, where you going?”
“To check on the digi-eggs of course.”
“Wait, why!?” Davis cut in.
“Why? Because it used to be my job, that is before the humans destroyed my village and most of our digi-eggs.” She answered. “Seeing that kind of thing can twist any kitten’s heart, even mine you know?”
“Wha!?” Davis reeled from the notion.
“Wait.” Willis joined in. “You means humans destroyed the primary village in your world?”
“One of them, yeah. Mine.” She replied with a glare at him.
“Wait, maybe we should try this another way.” Ken offered. “Blackgatomon, surely you must realize you don’t belong in this world. Your presence here is a danger to digimon and humans alike.”
“Pah, how do you figure? What’s back in that world for me anyway? More being hunted by Digi-champions or humans with their weird weapons. No thanks.” She scoffed walking into the village with Elecmon nearby.
“You seemed to know me somehow?” Elecmon asked as Blackgatomon picked up a digi-egg and rubbed it.
“The Elecmon I oversaw the village with was my mate. We tended it together for ages but when the humans attacked he sent me away with all the digi-eggs we could save. Elecmon, he.” She stammered, wiping her eyes as the cradle for the digi-egg appeared. “Well. He ain’t around anymore, put it that way.” She explained, picking up the baby.
“Elecmon!” Leomon and Ogremon called out together, rushing toward the group that had gathered in the village. Imperialdramon de-digivolved but Cherubimon and Rapidmon stayed at their levels. “Is everything ok?” Leomon asked.
“Well, seems so. Turns out Blackgatomon over here used to do the same job I’m doing.” He answered with a smile.
“It’s kind of a refreshing change.” Ken smiled. “To be honest if we don’t have to fight, I’d rather not.”
“Yeah, but we had the upper hand anyway.” Davis touted, wiping his nose.
“Tough talk.” Blackgatomon smiled. “I can sense how strong you are, you got nothing on me.”
“Rrr, wanna bet!?” Davis growled.
“Davis, relax.” Willis consoled him. “Blackgatomon, is there anything we can do to convince you to return home?”
“It’s not my home.” She snapped back. “I don’t.” She paused for a while and sighed. “I don’t have a home.”
“If you’re willing to stay away from doing anything evil and help me tend to the little ones, I’d be happy to have you here in the village.” Elecmon offered.
“Huh?” Everyone asked.
“Why not?” Elecmon smiled. “Clearly she knows what she’s doing, the little ones seem to love her already and besides. It’d be great to have someone around strong enough to guard the village.”
“So long as those nasty humans don’t attack, I’m fine.” Blackgatomon agreed.
“Blackgatomon, you have to understand that our world may have similarities to yours but it’s not the same.” Leomon began to explain. “Most of the humans that come to our world, come here as digi-destined and they often work incredibly hard to protect us from dangers we cannot overcome ourselves. Ken, Davis and Willis here are three of them, and there’s a good dozen or so more back in the human world that come here often to ensure our safety.”
“Good, humans?” She questioned, raising her brow.
“I’d go so far as to say great.” Ogremon agreed. “Trust me, I’ve tried fighting them and it didn’t go so well.”
“Blackgatomon.” Elecmon cut in. “It may take some time, but I think you’ll see we’re right on this. Please, if you choose to stay here I’d welcome you but only if you understand that the humans we know and trust are our friends. Otherwise it might be best for you to go back.”
“Hmmm.” She hummed, glancing back at Davis, Willis and Ken. Veemon strolled over and extended his hand with a smile.
“What’dya say. Are we friends?” Closing her eyes for a moment she smiled and nodded, shaking his hand.
“Ok, friends. If only because I can’t resist that cute face of yours, Elecmon.” She cooed, glancing back at Elecmon.
“D’aww, stop.” He blushed. A crack of lightning shot across the sky, interrupting the tender moment as the portal remained wide open. “We should probably do something about that before anything else comes through.”
“Right.” Ken agreed. “Izzy, we’re clear here. How are things going on your end?”
“Ken! Thank goodness, we were having trouble reaching you.” Izzy replied. “We’ve had some ups and major downs. We lost Russell, Eaglemon and Tigervespamon. T.K and Kari were able to come in and handle it but we still need help. What about the breach on File Island?”
“It’s under control, go ahead and close the portal.” Ken advised him.
“Ok good. Gennai’s reporting in as well, Firamon and Garurumon took their champion breaches down too, however they’re all exhausted after their fights and returned to the primal world. How are your digimon?” Izzy asked.
“Basically fresh. Blackgatomon turned out to be a friendly. We fought a little but no worse for wear, do you need us anywhere else?” Ken asked.
“Yeah, come on we can handle whatever’s next!” Davis cheered.
“Head to Jesmon and Alphamon. They’re still fighting off Megaseadramon and while they’re holding their positions, I don’t know how much longer they can fight without support.” Izzy advised.
“Megaseadramon, great.” Willis moaned.
“Whoa, wait, Megaseadramon!?” Blackgatomon cried out. “You guys better be careful! He’s one of the most dangerous digimon from our world, one of the hundreds of reasons I stay away from water.” She stated.
“We’ll do our best.” Ken assured her.
“Yeah! We’re gonna show that snake who’s boss here!” Davis cheered. “Veemon, let’s do this!”
“Veemon digivolve to! Exveemon!”
“Wormmon digivolve to! Stingmon!”
“Exveemon! Stingmon! DNA Digivolve to! Paildramon!”
“Paildramon Digivolve to! Imperialdramon!”
“Wha, they were megas!?” Blackgatomon went slack jawed.
“That’s right, Imperialdramon, take us to Server!”
“Right!” He nodded, porting in Rapidmon, Cherubimon, Ken, Davis and Willis he lifted off into the air and fired out toward the ocean.
“They’re doomed.” Blackgatomon hung her head.
Tai, Kari and T.K along with their digimon ported in just a few hundred feet from the cliffs where Jesmon and Alphamon were fighting. They couldn’t believe how far the fight had gone, large swaths of the ground had been shocked or blown apart. The cliffs still stood however chunks of it had been blown down, and the lighthouse at the edge had been destroyed. Gennai joined them with a grim look on his face, holding a radiating pink sphere.
“Gennai, how’s the fight going?” Tai asked. Gennai nodded off toward Jesmon who had just fired on Megaseadramon again, the blast sailing past him and exploding into the water sending massive waves up into the air. Alphamon threw his blade across the big serpent and managed to get a good shot in, with the usual explosions that followed any cleave Alphamon landed with his weapon. “Whoa!”
“They’re holding him off, but Jesmon and Alphamon are exhausted. Megaseadramon on the other hand still looks like he could go a few more rounds.” Gennai explained.
“What’s with the sphere?” Kari asked. “It almost feels, familiar.”
“It’s a communication conduit for Homeostasis. I wanted it to watch this fight.” He answered.
“Great.” Salamon moaned.
“Hmph.” Agumon huffed. “If I could fight, I would. But if Homeostasis thinks I’m just gonna watch Jesmon and Alphamon get beat up, it better think again.”
“Agumon.” Tai looked back to him, seeing the little digimon with his arms crossed.
“I meant what I said. I’m only here to protect Tai, the only way I can now.” He stated firm.
“Thanks Agumon.” Tai sighed, turning back to the fight. “I know this is hard, but we gotta win this one.”
“Well.” T.K smiled, pointing behind them. “The Cavalry has arrived.”
“Huh?” Tai chanced a quick look back as Imperialdramon flew overhead. “Yeah! Go get em you guys!” He cheered.
“Imperialdramon, mode change to! Fighter mode!” He called out, releasing Willis, Ken, Davis, Cherubimon and Rapidmon.
“Guys!” Tai starting speaking into the communicators. “Be careful. Jesmon and Alphamon are wiped, give em a chance to rest and put that snake on his heels!”
“You got it, Tai!” Davis answered back. “Imperialdramon! Hit that jerk with everything you got!!”
“Positron Laser!!”
“Rapid Fire!” Rapidmon joined in, firing on Megaseadrmon. The blasts hit true, but only enough to force Megaseadramon to turn away. Cherubimon began circling the water and was conjuring up a massive thunderhead.
“Heaven’s Judgement!” Cherubimon called out as a massive amount of lightning began to blast away at Megaseadramon.
“Hit him again! Don’t stop firing!!” Davis and Ken cried out together. Alphamon and Jesmon backed up and Jesmon took Athos, Rene and Por into formation once more.
“Un-pour-tous!” He cried out, creating his triangular shield. Alphamon joined in, charging up a large green blast of his own. As Jesmon and Alphamon fired, Rapidmon, Cherubimon and Imperialdramon took their shots together and all the attacks blasted Megaseadramon in one massive explosion. The big serpent cried out in agony, hurled back far into the ocean by the blast and crashed deep into the waters below.
“That might have been the best shot we got on him today.” Alphamon said trying to catch his breath.
“Agreed. Cherubimon, aid us in finding the body. We must bring him through the portal.” Jesmon ordered.
“I’m with you.” Cherubimon joined in, diving into the water. Diving down deep into the water, Cherubimon was followed by Athos, Rene and Por from Jesmon. Searching all around he couldn’t spot the big digimon but a glimmer of light caught Cherubimon’s eye just in time for a Lightning Javelin to sail past him. Panicked, he rose up out of the water and called back. “He’s not down!”
“What!?” Imperialdramon spoke up.
“Impossible! That blast should have blown him away!” Alphamon argued. But overhead lightning began to crackle. The sea stirred and started to boil like a cauldron as the tide steadily swirled around into a massive whirlpool.
“No.” Cherubimon stammered, aiming for the shore with Rapidmon close behind him. “Get to safety! Megaseadramon is attacking!” Tai, and the others gathered together as Imperialdramon retreated back to the shore. Returning to his dragon mode, he took everyone in and started to fly upward.
“Gennai!” Jesmon called out, rushing over to him and picked him up. Alphamon stood ready on the beach to prepare himself for the oncoming attack when he realized what was happening. The whirlpool that Megaseadramon had made, shot high into the sky as a swirling, electrified vortex. Expanding as it encroached on the shoreline and causing the ground to tremble. Jesmon kept hold of Gennai and lifted him into the sky in an attempt to flee away along with Imperialdramon and Alphamon.
“Guys, brace for impact!” Tai warned them from inside the capsule Imperialdramon kept them in. The vortex caught all of them, but thankfully the attack had weakened somewhat. Imperialdramon cried out in pain as the electricity surged through him but he was still able to keep everyone inside safe from the current. Hurled hundreds of feet from the vortex, Imperialdramon landed just down the hill from where the lighthouse used to be, groaning in pain as dirt and sand had half buried him. Tai got up, wiping his brow as a bit of blood came from his head. “Kari! Agumon, you guys, are you ok?”
“I’m ok, Tai.” Kari answered.
“I think I lost my lunch on that ride.” Agumon groaned.
“Ugh, my head.” Davis moaned.
“Let’s not do that again.” Ken joined him.
“I’m with Ken on that one.” Patamon agreed.
“Umf. Wait, wheres-“ Salamon asked, looking around.
“Willis!” T.K turned around to see Willis unconscious inside. Terriermon and Lopmon had also reverted to their rookie levels and were trying to comfort their fallen partner. T.K leaned in and could hear a heartbeat and checked for breathing. “He’s out cold, but he’s breathing.”
“Gennai, can you hear me?” Tai asked over the communicator. Static only followed for a while before Tai spoke again. “Gennai, if you can hear me, come in!”
“I hear ya, Tai.” Gennai groaned. Jesmon unveiled Gennai from under his cloak and grunted in pain, having to use Athos, Por and Rene to get up. “I’m roughed up, but fine.”
“You think I’m giving up that easy!?” Alphamon bellowed, planting his blade in the ground as he got up. “I can sense him. He’s weakened! That last attack drained the bastard’s stamina! I’m going for the kill!”
“Alphamon, wait!” Jesmon interjected but Alphamon already rushed off to fight. “Blasted fool!”
“Tai, Alphamon and Jesmon are heading back in. Megaseadramon’s been weakened, he used up a lot of strength in that attack. Can Imperialdramon still fight?” Imperialdramon struggled to get to his feet, but after a few grunts and growls he managed to get himself reoriented and took off. Landing back at Gennai’s side he dropped off the digi-destined and reverted to his fighter mode.
“Tai!” T.K called out, picking up Willis. “I’m taking Willis back to Joe.”
“Good call, thanks T.K.” Tai nodded. T.K opened his portal and took Willis, Patamon, Terriermon and Lopmon inside.
“That one hurt, but we can still win this!” Davis encouraged his friend.
“Don’t give up, he’s on the ropes. We can bring him down!” Ken joined in.
“Right!” Imperialdramon agreed. However almost immediately after taking off, something started going wrong. “Ahhh! What, is!?” He struggled in mid air, his body contorting and shaking violently, steadily Imperialdramon began to resonate.
“No.” Tai stammered.
“Oh no.” Agumon joined in. “Tai, we’ve seen this before.”
“No, not now!” Tai cried out. Demiveemon and Minomon fell to the ground as Davis and Ken picked them up.
“What happened, did you guys run outta energy?” He asked.
“Davis.” Tai spoke softly. “Check your digivice.”
“Huh?” He thought for a moment before taking it out of his pocket. “Ah! No! No way! No freaking way!!” Davis cried out in anger. The ring of light had started to count down on his digivice. “Homeostasis you big fat slime sucking freak! I can’t believe this!”
“No.” Ken stammered, seeing the light on his own digivice. “Davis, you still have your ring, right?”
“Yeah, of course but it won’t work unless they’re back to rookies.”
“Davis, Ken!” Tai jumped in. “Get out of here. Go back home and get your digimon back up to rookie and then get those rings on!”
“But Tai.”
“You can’t help right now. Look at Demiveemon he’s drained. If we have to come back to fight we will, but for now, go!” Tai ordered.
“Grrr!” Davis fumed. “Jesmon, Alphamon! Take that jerk out once and for all!!” He shouted as loud as he could, opening his portal back home. Ken growled, holding Minomon in his arms and stomped over to Gennai.
“Can Homeostasis hear us through that thing!?” Ken demanded.
“Yes Ken.” Gennai reluctantly answered.
“Every digimon that falls today is on you! If you won’t allow us to fight, you’re no better than King Drasil so do us a favor and shut yourself down!” Ken shouted into the sphere before porting away.
“Ken.” Kari moaned seeing him vanish.
“It’s painful to hear, isn’t it?” Gennai asked the sphere. However Homeostasis remained quiet.
“Lightning Javelin!” Megaseadramon fired. The blast blowing the blade on Jesmon’s right arm in half.
“AHHH!!” Jesmon cried out in pain.
“Jesmon.” Homeostasis finally spoke.
“They can’t win.” Gennai spoke softly enough that only he and the sphere could hear. “This fight’s over. It was close, but there’s nothing more they can do. Jesmon and Alphamon can’t keep this up much longer.”
“Alphamon! Back him up! Jesmon needs help!” Tai called out. Lunging in, he slashed down hard on Megaseadramon’s skull but he swung back with the blade on his head and slashed Alphamon across the chest. Alphamon backed off for a moment, covering his shattered armor up briefly before raising his hand and firing a barrage of green blasts on Megaseadramon. Through the smoke he tried to charge at Alphamon once again, but Jesmon intercepted his brother and got him out of range of the attack. The two squared off once more with the primal digimon but the reality of the situation began to set in with Jesmon.
“We can’t stop it.” Jesmon stammered, examining the broken blade on his right arm.
“Maybe you can’t, but I’m not finished yet.” Alphamon rushed in.
“Alphamon, stop!” Jesmon shouted. Megaseadramon wasn’t about to give him a chance. Slapping Alphamon away with his tail, he hurled him into the cliff-side and began charging his attack.
“Lightning Javelin!” He shouted. It was a direct hit. Alphamon was caught in a massive blast that left him de-digivolved into Dorumon. Wounded and bleeding, he was left slack-jawed and barely conscious among the rubble from the cliff as Megaseadramon started to charge up his attack once more. Jesmon leapt in, clasping hold of his muzzle and sending the attack high into the sky.
“The only one allowed to kill my brother, is me!” Jesmon shouted.
“Jesmon, stop! You can’t win this!” Gennai shouted.
“No. No I can’t.” He growled and grunted, holding on to Megaseadramon for dear life. “Sometimes, a sacrifice must be made.”
“Oh please don’t!” Kari began to cry, holding Salamon in her arms.
“No, Jesmon stop!” Tai shouted.
“Don’t do it!” Agumon joined in.
“Jesmon, don’t.” Homeostasis begged.
“I devoted my life to protecting the digital world. Now, I will spend it to save it! Even if just for a moment! Digi-destined, I leave the rest to you!” Jesmon called out as Rene, Por and Athos surrounded him. The three began to charge up, focusing their energy on Jesmon this time. His body resonating with a brilliant verdant light as the energy built up to critical levels.
“No, stop it!” Tai screamed.
“Un Pour Tous!!” Jesmon cried out one last time. Everything seemed to slow down as the three collapsed in on him, a burst of light flared out, forcing everyone to turn away. Next came the explosion, knocking them all to the ground. As the dust rushed past, Tai opened his eyes just in time to see Megaseadramon sustaining fatal damage, as the top half of his body had blown off. In a brilliant flash, his data was released into the sky, with a second wave of dust and wind blowing over them from the blast. Dorumon clasped his stomach, steadily finding his feet as shards of dust and metal flew all around them.
“No. Not like this.” He shuddered with tears pouring from his eyes. “Hackmon!!” He shouted, the sound echoing off the cliffs around him. Tai found his way over to Dorumon and put a hand on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry. It shouldn’t have gone this way.”
“Spare me!” Dorumon tossed his hand away. “I hate you humans! I hate you-I hate you-I hate you!” He shouted.
“Your brother was very brave.” Tai spoke softly.
“No!” Dorumon collapsed into Tai’s arms. “No, he was an idiot. Why did he do it!?” Dorumon was really letting it out now, crying hard in Tai’s arms while he kept a fast hold on him.
“To save the digital world, just like he promised. He saved us all. Hackmon; you’re a true hero.” Tai answered him.
“Hackmon.” Homeostasis moaned. Gennai could feel the pain Homeostasis was feeling through the sphere, so much so it caused a few tears of his own to escape. “So. This is the feeling. This is loss. I thought myself beyond it. If I am not. Then, could I be?” Its voice trailed off. Tai kept a fast hold on Dorumon as he cried in his arms. Agumon made his way over and placed a hand on Tai’s shoulder. Smiling to Agumon, Tai pulled him in close, letting Dorumon get the last of his tears out. A few moments later, Tai took a look at his hand, and saw that it was stained in Dorumon’s blood.
“We should, do something about these wounds.” Tai said before releasing Dorumon.
“No.” He refuted. “I must report to my master.” He said, rushing away from the two of them.
“Dorumon wait!” Tai called out.
“Stay back!” He shouted, getting a few paces before turning back to Tai. “Thank you. For coming to my aid, for trying to comfort me. But, I must bare this alone.” He said as he vanished. Tai hung his head for a moment and then turned out toward the ocean. The portal was gradually closing, and overhead a storm had started to form in its wake. The damage from the fight was all around him. Leveled trees, ripped up earth, and almost all of the beach destroyed along with most of the surrounding cliffs.
“Tai?” Agumon said, clasping Tai’s hand.
“Oh, sorry. Kind of zoned out there.” Tai answered softly.
“You ok?” He asked. Tai turned to Gennai who was slowly approaching with the sphere in his hand. Tai took a deep breath and picked up Agumon, giving him a quick squeeze in the process.
“Homeostasis has gone into remission.” Gennai began to say, as Kari and Salamon approached. “The threat of the Primal Digimon may be over. But.”
“The light has lost its guardian.” Kari cut in.
“Yes.” Gennai nodded. “Without Jesmon, the light protecting this world is now vulnerable. Dorumon may be wounded, but he’ll recover.” Gennai hung his head. “When that happens. Nothing will stop Alphamon from attacking us.”
“I don’t think that he will.” Tai refuted, keeping to a calm tone. “I don’t know what it is. But I can feel it.” He said gazing down at the blood stain on his hand. “After everything he’s done lately, the way he reacted to Jesmon destroying himself. I think something good inside him is trying to come out.”
“Tai?” Kari asked, clasping his hand. “Are you sure about this?”
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure.” Tai nodded to her before turning to Gennai. “He wouldn’t be grieving Jesmon’s loss if he hated him. If there’s even a chance he could turn a corner, we should try to help him take it.”
“I hope you’re right, if only because I know how dangerous of a threat Alphamon can be.” Gennai said, stashing away the sphere. “However.” Gennai tipped his head.
“Without Jesmon, and the fact we’ll soon lose Aegismon. We’ll be defenseless.” Tai answered for him.
“Right.” Gennai turned back toward the sea. “If you truly believe you can reach him Tai. Try your best. Otherwise, we may soon see an end to the digi-destined.”
“Maybe that’s what Jesmon meant.” Kari spoke, looking down at the ground. “When he said he was saving us, even if just for a moment.”
“We may be close to the end, but it’s not over till it’s over. I refuse to let Hackmon’s sacrifice be for nothing. If I can save his brother, I’m gonna try. Most of all, what we need next, is a clear answer for once. ” Tai countered. “Gennai, give me that sphere.” Gennai looked a little shocked at first, but produced it from his pocket and handed it to Tai.
“Homeostasis. You’ve seen everything we’ve seen. You heard Hackmon’s dying wish. The Primal Digimon threat is over. So now, we’ll leave this call up to you. We can stay in the human world, minding our own business from now on. Or we can help defend the digital world if Alphamon returns, or if something worse happens. Either way. We need an answer. Don’t waste the chance Jesmon just gave us, make it count.” Tai said, turning to Kari. “Kari, will you let Homeostasis speak through you, one last time when it’s ready?” Giving a long sigh, she conceded.
“One, last time. But never again.” She agreed.
“I understand, thanks sis.” Tai smiled tossing the sphere to Gennai who just managed to catch it.
“Balls in your court now, Homeostasis. We’ll be in touch.”
