Chapter Text
Kat POV
Hearing that Sam was selling a few of his grandfather's things, I decided to drop by and see what there was. I had heard of some stories about the man, so I was curious about what he had. I did laugh at the fact that Sam was selling these things to collect money for a car. I rolled my eyes at the thought, I could understand though. I hadn't been in the family that long, but I knew my Uncle Ron was a cheapskate. Of course, this reasoning made sense. Uncle Ron probably wanted Sam to learn some responsibility in saving money up for a car. Since I was gonna pass by their house on my way home, I decided to take that chance to stop by and help out Sam by buying one of his grandfather's items.
I stopped out by the curb, I stared towards the house. It was funny to think I had just been here yesterday. Of course, I didn't have cash at the time and I didn't want to get too excited about the items. So I promised Sam I would come back today, after my afternoon class. I killed my car and got out. Checking I had my keys and wallet, I made my way towards the door. Once at the door, I raised my hand to knock. The door opened before my hand could hit.
Sam was quick to meet me at the door with a smile. I shook my head at his enthusiasm, but followed in after him. He was quick to pull me up the stairs, barely giving me time to say hello to his parents.
We stood in his room, also paired with the storage room of the house. He dug for the items as I stood and watched. He then started to set them out, one by one. I looked over all of them. Though the only one that seemed to even peak my interest was this pair of glasses. I picked up the glasses and looked them over. They seemed to have weird little symbols crystalized on the lenses of the glasses. I raised an eyebrow at the odd symbols, not really sure what they are or what they mean. I look over towards Sam as he pulls out the last handful of items. I chuckled a bit.
"So, how much more money do you need?," I asked. Sam looked over towards me and started to count his fingers.
"About $200," Sam answered. I nodded and showed him the glasses.
"I'll give you $200 for these glasses," I said with a smile. His eyes widened but he then smiled.
"Okay, I'll let you buy them for $200," Sam said. I chuckled a bit as I folded the glasses and then pulled my wallet out.
"Man, these will probably be the most expensive glasses I have gotten. Even more than my own," I said as I pulled out $200 and handed it to Sam, pushing my glasses up after. I tended to have quite a bit of spare money since my new job and luckily I had already paid my bills this month, on top of already gone grocery shopping for this week. Sam wore a cocky smile as he put the money up.
"Well, I must sell it cheaply to ya. You're a college student after all," Sam jokingly said. I chuckled, putting the glasses down, and reached over to him. He tried to dodge me, but I was able to grab the back of his shirt and pull him back into my grip. He fought me as I gave him a noogie.
"Yeah, let's skip the part about me being family," I said with a chuckle, tightening my grip on him as he tried to get away, " we may not be blood related, but you are still my little cousin."
"Uncle, uncle," Sam called out. I laughed a little bit and then let him go.
"Why do you do it so hard?," Sam said as he looked at me, trying to fix his hair. I shrug as I reach for the glasses and put them into my hoodie pocket. I walked over past him, he ducked away from me. I chuckled a bit and then sat down on his bed. Sam looked at me and then joined me on his bed.
"So how is your school project coming along?," I asked. Sam groaned a bit, I chuckled. I knew that feeling, I never really like school projects that much either.
"Just think about it. You're almost finished with high school. Just one more year," I said, sending him a cheeky smile. He looked at me and sighed and then looked off out the window. I smiled a bit, leaning back more on his bed.
"I remember when you were in middle school. You swore you would grow taller than me, before running back towards your parents," I teased at him. Sam was quick to look back at me.
"What?," Sam questioned. I smiled back at him.
"The first time I met you was at my step-father and mother's marriage. You were in middle school and I had just graduated high school. You came running up to me, shouting 'you can't always pick on me, someday I will be taller than you.' Only for you to run back to your parents after that," I said with a chuckle at the memory, " You still have a few more years, and those inches don't seem to be appearing." Sam hummed.
"I came running up to you like that because you kept calling me shorty. Also there isn't much difference between our heights," Sam commented, seeming done with my jests.
"I tend to call people shorter and younger than me shorty. It's a habit that won't go away," I said with a smile, "also I will hold those few centimeters above your head along as it pisses you off." I took notice to the sun setting outside the window.
"Welp, it seems that it is time for me to leave," I said, as I got up off Sam's bed. I turned towards him and ruffled his head before quickly heading out of his room.
"Hey," I heard Sam yell after me as I went down the stairs. I hear his footsteps coming down after me. I turn and almost watch him eat the rest of the staircase.
"Oh, are you heading home already?," I hear my Aunt Judy ask me from behind. I look towards her and smile and nod. She quickly walked back into the kitchen. Sam catches up and goes to say something, but his mother interrupts.
"Here. Take this," Aunt Judy says as she shoves a Tupperware box into my hands. I look down at the box and see that it holds some leftovers. I shook my head at my aunt, only for her to nod and give me a look. I sighed and then looked back towards Sam for help. He shakes his head.
"You don't have to give me this," I said towards my Aunt. She shook her head.
"No. You are taking the box," she said, giving me a slight glare, "if you take the box I will know that you have something to eat tonight. Eat it with joy because it was made with my love." She said the last part with a smile and even did a heart motion with her fingers. I rolled my eyes, but nodded.
"Okay, I'll take the box," I said, cracking a small smile. I wave at them, and head towards the front door. I took notice to Uncle Ron who was watching TV on the couch.
"Night, Uncle Ron," I said as I opened the door. I heard him mumble a small 'good night, Kat' as I went out the door. Once out the door, my smile dropped. I was so tired, I walk down the sidewalk and make it to my car. I pulled out my keys and unlocked the door. I turn to get in the car and see Sam waving at me from the house. I wave once more, before sliding into the car. I place the Tupperware on the passenger seat, as I close my door and then slip on my seatbelt. I sighed as I started my car. I then smiled.
"Time to go see my babies," I said with a chuckle, as I drove down to my house.
