Work Text:
Sarek had purchased the necklace Nyota now wore around her neck. As she fiddled with it, her delicate brown fingers tracing over the opalescent turquoise stone, he wished it meant the same thing it had meant when he’d given it to Amanda. But that honor belonged to Spock. And as the pair announced their intent to be bonded, Sarek realized it always would.
After offering a perfunctory congratulations, Sarek closed his eyes and repressed his disappointment.
This was his fault. When Spock had come here, to his home, a year ago, shortly after Ambassador Spock’s death, Sarek had urged him to return, telling him it was foolish to discard a chance at a romantic relationship with a woman as magnificent as Nyota Uhura. And thus, he had been the one to bring them back together.
Now, suddenly Sarek realized he was the fool.
There had been an opportunity for him to make his feelings for the young woman known, when she’d come crying to him over Spock. He could have swept her away. Made her forget all about him.
Instead, he’d helped them mend things.
And now, he would be forced to watch his son marry the woman he loved.
